screen recording is extremely slow with any program/codec

Q: screen recording is extremely slow with any program/codec

i cant seem to get above 13fps with any screen capture program or codec. i can have absoultly nothing running, except for windows, and set a program such as camtasia to 640x480 and i wont get above 13fps.

ive eliminated any interfering programs as the issue(nothing but stock windows and hp coolsense)

ive already ran a virus scan, in my case a full boot time scan with avast

ive tried multiple programs with several different codecs, including xvid.

all my drivers are at there latest

as for hardware, i have an old mid end laptop from 2006(with identical software/os) that can get 30fps easy on a 640x480 capture resolution, so why do i have issues on an even faster computer.

am i missing anything obvious? because at this point i am stuck.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Can you list the specs of the old laptop? also, screen capturing is a heavy program, and given your specs, 13-20 fps might be fine. Did you perhaps try another program, like FRAPS ? or bandicam?

Hello there!
I chatted with a Microsoft technician and he referred me to this forum.
I would like to download the same screen recording program as Microsoft use to record the tutorials on the Windows website (if you have no idea what they use, please suggest another program (but let me know if Microsoft are using it or not)).
Here's one of the videos: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/help/videos/personalizing-your-pc#tab=newto
Please c/p this link, I'm not able to post links until my account is verified.
Also, how can the screen recording program in the video be invisible? There are no running programs in the taskbar.

I don't know if I posted this in the right forum category.

Thanks

Each time I try to open something new my computer acts like it's the most taxing thing it's ever seen. It took about a minute an a half to open this browser, same thing happens when I open anything, basically. Once I get programs open they run alright, maybe a little slow here and there, but every program doesn't want to open in a reasonable amount of time. It jut kinda acts like nothing happened for a long time then will finally open it.

I've run a few free malware/spyware(ioBit, Adaware) scans and they all say my computer is running fine. Sometimes it seems to help if I move the mouse or click around, kinda like the computer "forgets" that it's trying to open something until I prod it, and sometimes it seems as though it suspends everything I'm doing for a while, until it tries really hard to catch up and does everything at once.

Can anyone help or give me advice? Also what information do I need to know/where do can I find that info on my computer so I don't have to waste everyone's time asking where to find the info, haha.

Also if you happen to know anything about making League of Legends perform better, I'd love to hear any performance tips, but also something similar will end up happening here and there on LoL. I'll be mid game and it'll be running fine, then it'll temporarily freeze of drop to around 4fps, until everything happens really quickly to catch up. It seems to be completely random, there can be a lot of things going on on the screen, or al... Read more

Oh and it doesn't seem to matter if it's opening the program brand new, or if it's in the bottom right hand box with the already running programs, just trying to maximize the window gives it problems.

My computer has been running rather slow for the past couple of months, and things seem to be getting inherently worse. I am having problems with my internet explorer, and it will not even let me download the newest version. At one point I did a system restore and after restoring the computer to an earlier date it said something about internet explorer renaming some files so they would be kept, that sounded kind of weird to me, but I guess I'm not too familiar with the process. My virus protection programs have been catching a lot of spyware and tracking cookies lately as well. I know something is up, but am not really sure exactly what and where I should start cleaning up. My computer would also not let me run the panda online scanner, it said I must have Internet 5.0 or better installed, which I thought I had, and like I said, I have not been able to download Explorer 7.0 even though my windows xp has been validated. In the last couple of days I have had problems opening some programs I use for work, including ACT! and an enrollment plan I use. I have included the DSS main text below and attached the extra text as requested. Thank you so much for your help!

I have the same issue on 3 different computers . one with p4 , one with core 2 duo 2.8 ghz with 9600 gt 4 gb ram, and on a q9500 ati 4770 4 gb ram. the same results. I believe it's windows 7 , coz this is impossible. the same thing happened with windows vista, but they record fast in windows xp , even on my p4 machine . all computers record the same on windows 7. Do not tell me to adjust the setting coz i will laugh at you. I been douing that for 3 years. camtasia forums and support are not helpful. their products sucks. I use a USB audio interface device to connect a turntable to a PC for recording purposes. This sytem has worked fine on my old XP computer but on my Windows 7 computer that recording level is crazily too high. I have tried two such interface devices with the same result. and have tried two recording software tools (Sony Sound forge and Pinnacle/Steinberg).
In order to get anything near acceptable I have to adust the Windows input level control (Control panel/sound/recording/....) to below 5/100 which does'nt seem satsifactory and it is still dangerously close to clipping.

One clue is that Windows sees the USB device OK but catagorises it as a "microphone" which might explain why it sets the gain so high.

Any ideas welcome. What obvious adjustment an I missing ???

This is driving me nuts. I have a ION iTTUSB turntable that I've had for around 2 and a half years. On my previous computer, ripping albums was a snap, just plug into a USB port and use Spin It Again. I recently got a new computer and now the USB Audio Codec is giving me a royal headache. The sound comes through (but I can't hear it through my headphones or Spin It Again or Audioacity) but it is far too loud. I've followed the steps in the Audacity wiki to attempt to tame this outrageous sound level but to no avail, there are no options for the volume of the recording level, not a one! Nothing I try reduces the input level and my recordings, while sounding great, are far too loud (the sound volume goes WAY into the red and is painful to the ears). The turntable itself has no volume control and this was never a problem before I upgraded. What do I do? I planned to spend all winter ripping albums.

Hello. I have been working with one of your malware/spyware experts, who has determined that my computer is free of malware. He directed me to this forum. I installed a new HP printer last week. A:User Log on from Welcome Screen extremely slow

Hi, welcome to BC .How long is "several minutes'?System manufacturer and model?Do you have auto updates enabled? The more startup entries a system has...the slower the logon with XP, IMO.I also find that employing a 3d-party firewall, instead of the Windows firewall, increases the time before the desktop settles and anything can be accessed.Additionally...HP and other printer manufacturers...seem to install programs/processes on a system that have little to do with printing a document. Some of these are set to run from boot unnecessarily.Printer model?I suggest taking a look at the items which now start at boot, using one of the following:Starter (for Startups) - http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-...k/Starter.shtml Startup Control Panel - http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml Startup Inspector for Windows - http://www.windowsstartup.com/ AutoRuns for Windows - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspx. If you use this tool, please read the instructions for use and confine yourself to the tab listed as Logon. The initial screen will probably display Everything, including XP/Windows items which should not be fooled with. This is (IMO) the best tool, but it is comprehensive...whereas some of the others only list items we think of as "startup items" which may be capable of being restricted/removed.Louis

Dear all,

I am a newbie here in this forum, and also in computer world. Anyway, my friend referred me to this forum to get solution for the problem I am having with my notebook.

I just got a new job and was given a second-hand notebook by my boss. He said that it was used by the person whose position I am replacing right now.

The problem with the notebook is, the startup screen (after bootscreen, but before welcome screen) turns out to be extremely slow. It takes 8-12/15 mins to just show the text "Windows is starting up" (after bootscreen).
Before the that screen shows up, after booting, the windows show a new window (blue coloured) which says "Regrun Partizan killer........" for about 8 seconds.

After the welcome screen shows up, the loading process before all the shortcut and items shown on the desktop finish loading takes considerably long as well. However, after fully loaded, my notebook tends to behave quite well, except that at times, it tends to freeze for 10 seconds when i run too many applications.

Before, the antivirus was not used to be updated.
Once i am in charge of it, i updated the antivirus (avg 7,5 free edition), and installed superantispyware.
After running the scan either by av and antispyware, I've quarrantined a large amount of infected files and potentially harmful softwares. But that doesn't affect anything to the problem I mentioned earlier.
The vault was also emptied, still no change.

I recently found myself in a financial rut and decided it would be a smart idea to pawn my laptop for some quick cash until I received my paycheck the following week. Well, I went through with the pawn, then the following week I went back to the pawn shop to pick up my laptop. Everything seemed to be fine, no scratches or noticeable damage was done during its little vacation.

I returned home and plugged up the laptop, I turned it on and came back awhile later and entered my log-in information, then left awhile longer. When I came back and tried to check my e-mail, I noticed an extreme slowness on my laptop. I tried to restart the computer through Windows, but after 10 minutes, the computer was still on the "Logging off..." screen, so I held the button down and shut down the computer, when I rebooted the computer, it got stuck on the log-in screen, I could not enter a password.

I then did another manual shut down and went straight for a system restore, but for some odd reason, my restore points had all been deleted before that day, there were only 3 available, and they were listed as system updates, so I went ahead with the earliest one.

After the restore, my computer was still lagging horribly. I installed AVG 2015 freeware and ran the usual antivirus procedure along with a PC tune up. So, now, after I log in, my laptop appears to be processing at pre-pawn shop speeds. Yet, I'm left with the problem of my log in screen. I turned it on tonight and it was st... Read more

I have an ASUS gaming laptop with Windows 10. The login screen has gotten increasingly slow over time. I always keep my computer in sleep mode when I'm not using it, so I don't recall how quickly I can log in from a restart.

However, when I came back from sleep today, it took over a full minute or two for my computer to recognize that I had clicked it to bring up the box where I enter my PIN. It then took a while to recognize that I clicked in that box, and there's almost always a delay when entering each digit. While all of this happens, I can move the mouse cursor normally, and it's very responsive.

Once I log back in, my computer behaves normally albeit slower than it did in the past. One possible culprit is Trend Micro Internet Security, which optimized my startup by delaying certain programs by varying seconds. I can try disabling this and seeing what happens, but I'm open to ideas in the meantime.

Hello 1st time poster with a question-
XPS8700 3.60 gigahertz Intel Core I7-4790, windows 8.1, 32 megabytes of ram, A11 BIOS
The problem encountered was extremely slow screen loads, some programs would time out, other screens took forever to come up. The spinning icon was very slow. This happened the first time I started up the computer and Dell tech support had me run the F12 diagnostics, all items passed, so he had me update the BIOS from A10 to A11 and the problem was resolved. This was a year and a half ago.
The same problem happened 2 nights ago. I first ran virus scan and malware scan. All of them reported no issue. I had Verizon reset my FIOS connection and check my Internet-no issue on their end..
I was finally able to resolve the issue the next morning by running the F12 diagnostics, the long version, took about 3 hours or so and now the computer is back to normal. Diagnostics were clean, no issues reported and everything passed.
I have a program that gives a complete profile of my computer-The Belarc Advisor- I ran it while the problem was present and my processor shows a speed of 57.65 gigahertz, not 3.60 gigahertz.
I reran the Belarc Advisor after the problem was resolved and now we are back to normal, 3.60 gigahertz.
Has anybody every encountered this issue or seen the processor speed change so dramatically and then return to normal?

A:Extremely slow screen loads and extreme change in processor speed

Unless you mis-typed it, something was wrong with what Belarc found because there's no way a CPU could run at 57.65 GIGA-Hz.
Back up your personal files on external media ASAP, in case your hard drive is about to fail....

I'm sorry I have to bother you guys about this, but I really do not know what to do on my own. My computer was recently hit by some popups from Internet Explorer, and eversince then it has been EXTREMELY slow. The internet is not exactly slow, but everything else about the computer is. Starting up the computer takes forever, loading up programs, you name it. The computer itself is not even that slow, and never performed this bad, so I am sure this problem is virus/malware related. I also have been forced to use Mozilla eversince the popup barrage from IE, which I have never exactly liked. Anyways, here is the HiJackThisLog below. Thanks again in advance!

I tried to open some video files i have on my computer but my media player (gom player) would come up with an error and say this program required a missing windows codec. The same problem occurred when i tried to play with windows media player.
I ran malwarebyte and avast antivirus scans which have some removed some items. Yet now when i restart my computer it says this program required a missing codec.

The option that the program compatibility assistant gives is to go to the totalcodec.com website and pay to supposedly fix this problem.
Thanks

So i'm thinking of making video clips or tutorials for games using a good software. I'd like it if its free, or considerably cheap. I've tried Fraps but the files were a little big and it slowed my computer down very low (though I still have it to record FPS). I've tried Growler Guncam and it didn't work with my computer (the "sound" and "gmp, jpg, etc" folders were hidden). I was thinking of getting Camtasia or CamStudio, but my friends said it is not good for gaming. I'm thinking of playing low-ish end games like Starcraft and Warcraft, just it shouldn't be a memory hog like Fraps...

Any suggestions?

I have seen people take snapshots of their boot screens.

I am looking for a program like that... but not really.
Well, I am looking for on that can record what ever happens on a monitor. I am running on a trimonitor set up so it needs to be able to record on either a specific monitor, or all three. I would like it to be able to autostart. I would like it to record keystrokes as well but that is optional.

I am looking for 1 program, or multiple programs. Any suggestions?

A:Request for a Recording Program.

See if one of these 3rd party apps will work for you:

1. FastStone Capture 5.3 (last freeware version) It captures rectangular/active screen or area, freehand area, and also captures a scrolling screen.

2. CamStudio

3. ScreenHunter, which can do a scroll capture, but only on the Pro version, which is not free. Check "Activate Auto Scroll", then use "Capture Window Control."

4. PicPick - Check "Activate Auto Scroll", then use "Capture Window Control."

Earlier today, my PC went from being perfectly fine to being extremely slow. I had a hunch that it may have been a virus or some serious malware so I tried to open up Malware and Ad-aware but everything was 'not responding.'

I ended up powering off via holding button. When I tried to load up again, the PC loaded to the blue welcome screen, but from there, it just hanged. i could open task manager but I was unable to open file > new task or anything.

I was able to go into safemode and load up Malware and Ad-aware. I searched on the internet from my laptop about what could be causing this. I found that a virus named Nimda could be a culprit. I found a fix for it so I cancelled my scans and rebooted. This time, I let it sit there. Everything had loaded properly...35min later! From here, everything was very slow.

I tried to open certain things like start menu or my computer, and it ended up taking 2-3min for each action.

Also, task manager (even opening task manager took 4min alone) showed very low CPU usage (about 1-2%) and about 20% physical memory usage.

My computer specs:
Win7 x64
Intel Core2 E7200
4 gigs of RAM
ATI HD4870

So here I am, back in safemode, attempting to run the scans (using Malware bytes + ad-aware + spybot) on 2 of my harddrives.

If this does not work, does anyone have any advice or insight?

Thanks, I appreciate it!

Hello folks, first time posting here and hoping to get some help with my problem. Just FYI, I am posting this from my laptop (not the computer with the problem) seeing as that computer is almost unusable in its current state.

I'll try to be as specific as possible until I can get logged on to the other computer and get information you folks may need.

About a day ago, I was searching for mods for Skyrim. My computer had been running perfectly fine and as fast as usual since I could remember before this point. However, in the midst of searching, Google Chrome stopped responding. I tried to start the task manager with Ctrl-Alt-Del, but nothing happened, so I had to force shut down via the power button.

When my computer starts, one of the fans goes full force before anything on the screen appears, and during this restart I noticed the fan was running at that speed for a significantly longer time than usual. Sure enough, when the "Starting Windows" screen appeared, the little Windows animation didn't appear right away, maybe a minute later it finally showed up. This part of start up took about 5-10 minutes, then the screen went black with just the white mouse cursor in the middle of the screen (was movable), then finally the password entry screen appeared. After putting in the password, another 5-10 minutes went by and was followed by a black screen with a white cursor once again.

Once the computer was started it just was not running nearly as fast as it s... Read more

Hey guys, just thought I'd share this with ya!

I found a great program called MP3myMP3 (CNET Review here: MP3 My MP3 Recorder - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com) that records sounds that your PC makes.
In other words, the sound that YOU hear from it.
E.G. If you wanted to record an error sound that Windows Makes (I know that they're in C: Somewhere this is just an example) you'd just press record and then play the sound and press stop. Simple.

Just thought I'd share as it came in handy for me.
