"Could not find the recovery environment" on attempt to reset PC

Q: "Could not find the recovery environment" on attempt to reset PC

Hello!
I'm trying to reset my PC in hopes that it will fix some issues i'm having with games, however whenever I try to reset my PC it says "Could not find the recovery environment". It says to insert my windows installation or recovery media, but I got windows 10 from the free upgrade (I upgraded from windows 7) so I don't have anything to install it. I could really use any help that anyone could offer. Thanks!

Preferred Solution: "Could not find the recovery environment" on attempt to reset PC

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm trying to restore my laptop (Acer Aspire e5 551), but every time I try to, it says "Could not find recovery environment."
I also tried to just refresh my laptop, but that some thing prompts me.
I looked on here prior to posting this thread, and tried something from a forum, but I was utterly confused because I didn't understand.

I'm trying to do a factory reset, but I am unable to because I am apparently missing a recovery environment.

I think it may have occurred when I deleted one of my recovery partitions to make room for a new partition that I installed Linux onto.

I was unable to create a recovery drive. "Cannot create a recovery drive on this PC".

I still have a recovery partition:

Now my problem is whenever I boot up my computer, and it tries to load windows, the screen starts getting crazy green lines (http://imgur.com/gbVtBqP) goes black, and eventually a blue screen pops up (http://imgur.com/O8IMBJg).

Now it should be known, I have just received my computer back from Asus repair where I RMAd it because the motherboard had to be replaced because it was surged and no longer allowing it to charge. We also replaced the hard drive disk. The time between it stopped charging and I sent it and got it back repaired was 28 weeks. I never had this problem prior to the motherboard busting, and have had it since getting it back. When it first happened, I thought it was because since I had gotten it back I had not updated my drivers (all my data had been erased), so I updated to the most recent version, and for the most part the problem was fixed, until all of a sudden it started again.

The problem first started occurring while playing games, the computer would get the green lines above, completely freeze and have to be restarted. Then it started to get the green lines, black out, and come back giving a message saying "the display ... Read more

The computer I got is second hand and has always been quite unstable. I usually get bsod if I leave the computer running for 15 minutes without any heavy programs in the background (IRQL not less or equal OR memory management). But recently I've been getting them while I play Skyforge. I'll play for 10 minutes then the cursor becomes all glitchy, in game the sky has all these red lines (obvious because of the graphic cards) then after about 30 seconds the screen goes to black. Then the bsod appears and the computer restarts.

I've already done a clean reinstalled of my NVIDIA driver but the problem still persists.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm experiencing BSID issues apparently due to graphic card.

Computer:vaio vgn-fw51mf laptop
system : windows 7 home premium 64 service pack 1.
graphic card:

The issues started with computer bugs when Alt-tabbing, but one day I got a "Attempt to reset display driver and recover from timeout" bluescreen and since then the only way to make the computer run properly is to disable the graphic card driver from the control pannel.

The bluescreen does not allways appear, but the screen frequently goes black just right after the windows screen, or sometimes windows starts but I immediately get continuous ?Display driver stopped responding and has recovered? errors.

Initially I thought that it was a hard drive issue, as I've been running the computer several months with an almost full hard drive, but now that I freed some HD space (205 free GB out of 454 GB) the problem persist.

I tried to unistall my drivers and update them: any results. I hope not have a hardware issue!

Please, any help will be precious!
Thanks in advance

Sounds to me like you might have to setup VirtualBox better or whatever software you're using. I don't use virtualization, so I can't be more specific.

In your motherboard bios settings, make sure Virtualization is on, or similar. (VT or HAV)

I have a Toshiba Satellite A665-S6094 here for which I have just made the system recovery disks. There are three system recovery disks and an additional disk called "Recovery Environment". This "Recovery Environment" is not included if you buy the system recovery DVDs from Toshiba and my little bit of Googling seems to take me to no explanation as to what the idea is behind this disk.

I suspect it is superfluous; but, what was the idea behind including it in the system recovery set in the first place?

Earlier today my computer (MSI A6500) was being really slow and not letting me get on any of my applications. So i decided to restore my computer to its default settings. Well when i hit F3 and when to the Recovery Manger. Here it asked me if i wanted my hard drive to be cleared. I said ok. Then this took me this blank screen, soon after that a message popped up that read "The Recovery Environment is not normal, System will be restarted, please try F3 function later.
Well when later the same thing happened and now i can't even get to my login screen the only thing that pops up is Window Boot Manger page that tells me that Windows has failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. And it says the only way i can fix it is with the Windows Installation Disc and I don't have that. Can someone please help

Hi, I've hit a problem with Windows XP, I've looked around and I haven't been able to find anywhere which offers a potential solution, so I really hope somebody here can help!

This hit my computer without warning, I switched it on this morning and it worked as normal, I was using Google Chrome, in order to browse websites that were free of spyware (the Guardian at time of crash) all of a sudden things started to freeze up. I restarted the computer, and now a lot of programs are refusing to open - Microsoft Office, among others, states "Error: There Are No More Files", whilst other programs such as Google Chrome and Internet Explorer state "Attempt to Access From Invalid Address", even when I am running them from their root folders.

As I've stated I am running a Dell Latitude 830 with Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 (2.00GHz, 2M L2 Cache, 800MHz) Dual Core, 1.0GB, DDR2-667 SDRAM, 2 DIMMS, Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 and am obviously using Windows XP. I have scanned my system with Avast Antivirus, which didn't state that there were any viruses, so I am stuck as to what exactly the problem is.

Thanks for reading! I really hope that somebody can help..

i need ur help with this guys. when i tried to reset my laptop, it read "could not find the files needed". mine is an Acer aspire V5, it didn't came with an installation disc or media, i know it should have a hidden partition for recovery, but i think the system is having trouble with it. i think a malware might have done this, i got malwarebytes, i tried norton online scan and eset online scan, but did not detect any. before this, i experienced my firefox browser icon on the taskbar progressing a download but cant see anything on downloads tab, i closed firefox several times, but it continued everytime i opened firefox, and it did finished its download. later i noticed explorer.exe is always having an established connection in TCPview, without me opening any apps. so i thought i really need to reset the computer, but this is my problem. i would really appreciate anyone's help. i've already run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth restore health on command prompt, but it showed no integrity violation.

A:Can't reset windows 8 "could not find the files needed"

There are several issues in your question that need to be addressed.

First, you say you are running Windows 8.0, you have not upgraded to 8.1?

Second, Explorer may have a connection for several reasons. Such things as being signed in with a Microsoft Account and not a Local user, or OneDrive, or even apps that are suspended and not actually shut down. But I would not do a Reset for that.

If Firefox is doing something online, you might try opening the Resource Monitor and check the Network Tab. If you put a check mark in the Firefox image, it will filter for just that and you might be able to see what it is doing. If it is downloading a file, doing the same process on the Disk tab might tell you where it is downloading to. It could just be one of its updates.

The problem with your system not wanting to Reset will depend on if you have updated to 8.1. If you have not deleted the Recovery Image partition, you should be able to see it in Disk Management. If it is there, open an Administrative Command prompt window and type reagentc /info to see if the image is registered on your system.

If you have an updated 8.1 install, a Reset will take you back to Windows 8, if it works, and a Refresh will not work unless you have made a Custom Refresh Image.

I bought a XFX HD 7850 2GB less than 2 weeks ago and has experienced numerous BSOD all with the same error message "Attempt to reset display driver and recover from time out failed" I've tried various versions of AMD's catalyst driver but it has not resolved my issue. I have not attempted to overclock the GPU, all factory default settings.

The BSOD's are not easily reproducible. So far, it's happened only when I play Skyrim, after maybe 40+ minutes of gaming (but not always, as I've gone longer than that without experiencing the BSOD). What happens is that I would see artifacting on the screen: long, thin, triangles pointing to the center of the screen, when the artifacting occurs there is a GPU temperature spike (it goes to around 66 degrees celcius), and then the BSOD. The first BSOD I experienced, there was no artifacting. I had exited Skyrim and launched FireFox, and was immediately hit with a BSOD with that error message.

Using MSI Afterburner to keep track of the GPU temp, it normally does not go above 60 - 62 degrees celcius during Skyrim (idles at 27 - 30 degrees celcius). I can't reproduce the BSOD using GPU stress testing utilities like Furmark and MSI Kombuster (highest temperature seen is 66 degress celcius).

Driver versions I've used:

1) installed new GPU, uninstalled old nvidia driver, cleaned orphan nividia driver files in safe mode using Driver Sweeper, installed catalyst driver version 13.1. Experienced first BSOD in Skyrim.

I have run Ad-Aware, Spybot, The Cleaner (trial version), AVG anti spyware, Webroot (trial version),Windows Defender.

I think it was Webroot Spy Sweeper or The Cleaner that removed "Click to find & Fix errors" but it kept coming back.

I have searched all over the web and cannot seem to find a solution to the problem I recently started having with my computer. (Although I have found plenty of people claiming to have the same problem.) This is on a computer running XP Pro SP3 with an AMD Anthlon II X2 CPU processor: Normally, when I download something - file, pic, etc. - I can left click on the download dropdown box (revealing the downloaded items list), right click on an item and choose "Open containing folder" and the folder I download the item to would open. (I choose where downloads go, not the My Docs Download folder.) Now, nothing happens when I choose "Open containing folder". At first I thought it was a Firefox problem since that is the browser I usually use so I did a ?refresh? but that did not correct the problem. Then I realized it was also happening with Chrome, so that ruled out a browser setting causing the problem. (I have IE but never use it.) If what I have downloaded uses a program, double clicking on the file in the dropbox still opens the correct program normally.

More investigating revealed that right clicking on a program icon on my desktop and choosing "Find target" was also not working ? nothing happens. (Normally the program folder would open with the .exe file highlighted.) I have to think both problems are caused by the same malfunction. Windows Explorer is functioning normally and I can locate the folders and files manually.

Web pages will often not load at all or will redirect while reading a webpage without any user action.

A:MS Word 2007 error~!!! "Temp Environment Variable"

I have the same issue with the same error message and problem, but I haven't seen a response to this earlier question.

I have gone to "Control Panel" > System > Environment Variables. Once there, I have no idea what to look for or what to edit.

By the way, I just read on this forum that registry cleaners create problems. Perhaps my registry cleaner is the culprit.

I have another problem that may or may not be related. When I attempt to install software online and/or from a CD, installation is aborted becuase my system is pointing to an H drive rather than my D drive.

Any help will be appreciated.

Dear support team,
I'm operating MS ATA 1.7 in a small entity (<50 users, 2 DCs). Would you recommend to tweak the ATA settings to better support such a "low-activity environment"?
I stumbled across the recommendation to feed Mongo ATA with:
db.SystemProfiles.update( {_t: "CenterSystemProfile"} , {$set:{"Configuration.EntityProfilerConfiguration.UniqueEntityProfileCacheMaxSize" : "4"}})
in another thread.
Best regards,

I've seen this posted elsewhere but the proposed solutions don't apply to, or are simply 'solutions' we can't apply in this environment.
We occasionaly see one or both of the following on desktops and laptops alike

"Could not reconnect all network drives" balloon message and an icon in the system tray
No balloon message but the icon exists in the system tray
Understandably this happens off the network (although we want to suppress that), however, this happens while on the network.  In every case that we've seen this, when we check 'Computer' (formerly 'My Computer'), all of the network drives are connected.
Windows reports a 'false positive' - so to speak.
Briefly here's our setup

Win 7 Enterprise in a domain environemnt Built-in Win 7 firewall has been disabled; No third-party software firewall solutions present
Network drives are mapped via net use /persistent:yes, Explorer with reconnect & logon set & via exporting/importing the network drive information from HKCU\Network

We use a login script, however, the login script does not handle the mapping of
all of our network drives.  This is because we have a number of different departments, who, over the years, used overlapping drive letters and there are some situations where users also overlap
departments that use overlapping drive letters.  (This goes back before my time.)  So instead, users map their own drives, remember the credentials and reconnect ... Read more

From Microsoft after submitting the Design Change Request (DCR) and Business Impact Statement

I was in Redmond last week and this issued was discussed in detail with the development team . We did figure that this is a change in the design /code that lead to the issue you are seeing . The team weighed the effort of investigating this further ; the

I have recently added Java 8 JDK and have had problems getting the javac to run in cmd prompt. I have many tutorials trying to correct this issue and it seems nothing is correcting it. I am using a 64bit Win7Home Premium Asus laptop, and would appreciate some help verifying that my pre-existing path is not causing an issue. For what it is my startup has always taken roughly two minutes, even before anything additional was installed.

There was not a semi-colon at the end of it, and a few places looked suspicious. I am not very familiar with what this path should be so I created a new variable "PATH" to insert the bin location for javac to work. Javac is now recognized when I type javac or javac -version... but not when I try to run my .java file to be turned into byte code.

After reconsideration I removed the path and will supply it to a recognized member who is willing to assist. I did not want to leave it exposed as views were climbing without any replies.

Wife has this recurring problem with MS word. Receives these messages when opening docs or c doing ?save as':

Microsoft database says that first error is an issue with Temporary Internet Files in Internet Explorer being in wrong place. I unhid hidden files and tried the ?move folder? option. Wasn?t sure where to move it safely ( novice here). It worked for a few days.. Used CCleaner to clean cache. Also only helped temporarily.

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:

I'm not the only person to have this problem. I received a private message from a member of another forum where I posted about this problem several weeks ago. That person also has the same problem with the duration field.

The tech guys on that forum were unable to find the source... Read more

I have had this problem numerous times in the past where the installation proceeds then ends with the messages:

During the installation of the device.
The system cannot find the file specified
and it goes into a detection loop

HERE is the solution:

Windows 2000/XP has a bug that it cannot properly detect new hardware by *.inf files, if the RunOnce registry key is missing for the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

This key is often used by installers to execute post-reboot programs, but sometimes they accidentally delete this key.

IMPORTANT: This article contains information about modifying the registry. Make sure that you understand how to backup and restore the registry, in case a problem occurs. Please read the linked Microsoft Knowledge Base article prior to editing the registry.
Go to Start » Run and enter "regedit."

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

With CurrentVersion Highlighted, go to the Edit menu and select New » Key

Name the key RunOnce, leaving everything else about the key alone.

The RunOnce key should now exist underneath the CurrentVersion key.
Once the key exists, Windows 2000/XP stops redetecting the Hardware

Hi!

Yeah so i've been searching some hours now for how to make my desktop look like this:
I don't care about the taskbar style, all i want is my desktop to look like that when i minimize everything, the clock and all! I think it's a really sexy look! I found the picture in an old thread on a forum and the user doesnt go there anymore. Im hoping someone here might have a clue!
I don't have any prior experience with this sorta stuff so im really clueless!

Thanks in advance!!

I know the CD is bootable as i used it for a recent install on another laptop

Hello jjones

This could be a problem with the hard drive
How far does setup get before the message appears?
If you can get to the Recovery Console (the first R you come to) run the command
chkdsk /r (there is a space before /)

If you can`t even get to the Recovery Console, run the manufacturer`s diagnostics on the drive

If you don't know the make of hard drive Hitachi Drive Fitness Test will work with any make.

The Hitachi 3rd download is for a bootable CD

Hi,
My computer(a laptop) has Windows XP with the 3rd Service Pack installed.
When I started the computer this afternoon a message came up saying "user environment" and that "Windows cannot load stored profile". It also had something about did I want to use a temporary profile and there was a clock running down. I'm afraid I sort of panicked and clicked something(I don't remember what!) and the box disappeared. I then restarted the computer. When the opening screen appeared there were far fewer icons than usual. Also the My Documents folder was empty. No pictures, music or videos. It was like the computer was being used for the first time, except that some stuff like Google Earth was still listed in all programs.
I tried restoring but it just said it couldn't because no changes had been made. For some reason I then tried creating a guest user but it made no difference.
I'm almost afraid to ask this, but does this mean I've lost everything?
If it makes any difference the Hard Disk is still showing 54GB used, which is what it was before, so does this mean the files are there but I just need to know how to access them?
Finally, there is another thread I saw which seemed to be the same problem and it says it is fairly easy to switch files from one user to another but both the users I have(ie mine and the guest one) are empty.
Sorry if this description isn't clear enough, but can anyone help?
Thanks, Niall.

Hello, everyone.

I was working with some programming applications of which I needed to add some additional paths to the Path environment variable. I went into the Advanced portion of the My Computer Properties, and there was no Path environment variable on the list of system variables. It was there while I was working yesterday, but it does not seem to be present now.

Is there something I can do to repair or recreate this environment variable?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Take care.

path has to be there.

Did you try rebooting your computer?

I am trying to map network drive using Windows 8.1 64-bit.  The drive is a USB disk plugged right into my router.  The drive location is //192.168.0.1.  If I do the following at a command prompt, it is successful and I can read/write
to the USB drive using file explorer at //192.168.0.1:
net use \\192.168.0.1 /USER:admin (and typing in the password when prompted)

However, if I try to use the Map Network Drive tool (while selecting the "different credentials" option) something weird happens.  The Windows Security box pops up to enter my credentials but then immediately a second box opens up
titled just "Windows".  The box says:
The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred: Attempt to access invalid address.

Also, if I use Remote Desktop Connection to try and connect with my computer at work I get a very similar situation.  A Windows Security box pops up to enter my credentials followed immediately with a box with the message "Remote Desktop
Connection has stopped working".  I know it should work because I created a .rdp text file with my username and encrypted password in it and then I can connect!

I'm thinking something must be corrupt in my registry.  The only security software I run is the stuff that comes with Windows 8.1, pretty basic machine setup quite frankly.  A system restore is my very last option because I don't know

Each time I powered off and on again after that I got a little further until finally I was able to click "last known good settings" and it went through.
Then when I try to enter a web-page and click, I get "Lookup key not located" (or something similar,I forgot to write it down.

During operation, even while playing games I am continually having this message pop up; "Microsoft Feeds Synchronization has encountered a problem. If you were working on something the info may be lost.We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I though a fresh install after format might be trouble free. What would cause all this?
The reason for the reinstall was trouble booting. Much Thanks-Brian (on my back-up comp.)

Hi!

I'm trying to restore my computer to a previous point in time (earlier today) using the "System Restore" utility. After I select my restore point and click on "Next", I'm noting in the next screen ("Confirm disks to restore") that my C: drive is showing a "not enough space" status (as opposed to the expected "Ready to Restore" status). Do I need to do something as simple as clearing out files from "temp" directories?

To complicate matters slightly: I'm unable to boot into the Windows GUI. When I power up the computer, the "Startup Repair" window stating "Your computer was unable to start" appears and attempts to correct the problem. After a few minutes, it reports that it cannot repair the computer automatically and presents me with a "System Recovery Options" window. Since the initial Startup Repair was unsuccessful, I'm choosing not to select that option again...so I thought the "System Restore" option would be the next best approach. When I try to perform the System Restore, I run into the scenario that I detailed in the first paragraph of this post.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I'm more than happy to post additional information as required.

Thanks!
