Have to turn off OUTLOOK.EXE manually when shutting down PC

Q: Have to turn off OUTLOOK.EXE manually when shutting down PC

As it says on the tin. Every time I try to shut down my PC, Windows asks if it can close off multiple instances of OUTLOOK.EXE for me. I don't know why it does this or why there are multiple instances of Outlook running in the background. Some help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Preferred Solution: Have to turn off OUTLOOK.EXE manually when shutting down PC

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I was told to start a new topic on this and I'm doing so now.

Every so often, when I restart my PC, when it comes to the blue screen that says HP Invent and so forth where it gives you the options to select F10 and etc it gets stuck there. I'd wait about 5 minutes, and then I would have to do a manual shutdown by holding down the power button on the tower. I noticed this starting a while back, and didn't think anything of it til it has happened a few more times. But after I do the first manual shutdown and turn it back on, it does it again and normally starts up with no problems the third time.

I don't know what is causing this, and was hoping someone could tell me how to diagnose what is going on.

Thanks, and I appreciate any help.

Hi, I'm using a Inspiron 15 7000 Series 7559. I would like to turn on/off my display screen while still running my programs in the background. I would like the option to do this when I'm listening to audio books on YouTube or when I have my laptop connected to my TV. Its really annoying having the screen running even at its dimmest when it doesn't need to be on, so is there anyway to black out the screen then turn it back on when needed while still keeping YouTube, ect. running?
I did do some research online and found some sites where I could download programs to turn off the LDC display, but they seem sketchy at best and since this is a basic feature I thought maybe dell has it tucked away somewhere.
Anyway any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks for you time.

I am attempting to reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on an HP Pavillion DV6 laptop. Initial re-install went ok, but on reboot I am getting a quick BSOD with error messages, then going to the Restart options menu (Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, etc.) Turning off the Auto Restart after System Failure is not one of the options on the menu. I seem to remember a year or so ago reading that I could put a switch into the config.sys or another startup file to manually turn the Auto Restart off, but have googled extensively and can't find it.

FYI, I had the same problem on a previous reinstall attempt, so I know this is not just an issue that came up during this reinstall. I know the ISO I am installing from is ok. I have run all the built in system diagnostics and am getting no errors with memory, HD, etc. Also, I was able to successfully install the 32 bit version, but the machine came from the factory with 64 bit installed, and all the driver files @ the HP website are for the 64 bit version. I want to return it to the client in as close to original condition as possible. She does not have any backup or system restore disks.

Any help would be most appreciated. TY

HP Pavillion dv2000 (dv2025LA)

It was full of viruses, so I removed the HDD, put it on my computer and cleaned it up. Put it back on the laptop, started up fine, but I decided I should better format it. During the windows installation, it did not detect the HDD, so I pressed the power button until it turned off.

Now when I press the power button, the only that happens is that a little lightning bolt LED next to the HDD and Power LEDs flashes twice and nothing happens.

I removed the battery, let it sit for 10 minutes, tried again, same results. Removed the HDD, tried to boot it like this, no luck. What is going on here? What does that little bolt mean, and why does it flash twice?

I am in the process of making a permanent transition from XP to Vista. One of the motivating factors is that my XP installation is messed up and Vista is working fine.

When trying to import the Outlook Express settings into Vista's "Windows Mail", Mail cannot "see" the OE account on the other partition.

I was able to successully copy all the .DBX files to the Vista Desktop and import them into Mail, but still cannot find a way to get the Message Rules and Accounts into Mail, either by importing them from Vista or exporting them from XP.

When I try to export the information, XP gives me some odd error message that I can't remember right now, but it involves one of the Services not working. I tried to fix it but could not.

And when I try to import the information, Mail cannot see the account. I get "No other e-mail accounts could be found" but the message appears so quickly I can tell it's not really looking. I cannot browse Mail to find them either.

I did some research and learned that these settings are saved in specific places of the Registry, and one option is to boot back to XP (shudder) and try to export these registry settings. But then I wonder what would happen if/when I imported them to Vista.

Should I try this ? Or is there a better way ?

Another idea was I was wondering if it is possible to get RegEdit to open a Registry on another partition; another non-booted O/S's Registry.

Anyways, that's as much as my ... Read more

Okay, here we go.

We're running Exchange on our domain here in the office.

I can find no where in the options on any of our other PCs utilizing Office 2002 (XP) where something would have changed on the clients PC.

Can anyone point me in the right direction??

First timer here at the forums, sorry if this is in the wrong place, I wasn't sure of the best place to put it.

For a long time I've had an issue with my computer, and since it was more of an annoyance than anything, I left it alone, but it's REALLY been bothering me lately.

Basically any time that my computer is shut down or powered down with a hard-off, it refuses to start back up again for a period of anywhere from 30-45 minutes.

Example: I shut down the computer using the shut down command. Computer powers down. I then press the power button in order to start the computer back up. The LED lights and fans turn on and spin up for about half a second and then everything goes back off. At this point, if I press the button again, nothing will happen. The only way to even get them to do the half-second spin up again is to flip the switch on my power supply to off, wait for the residual charge to leave the PC, and then flip it back on. Even then, I still only get the LED lights and fan spin up for a half second, and then nothing.

Now, if I leave the computer off without trying to start it for a good 45 minutes or so, I can come back and start it as normal. This problem totally boggles my mind, because since it began almost a year ago, I have changed/replaced the following parts of my computer: Motherboard, Ram, Hard drives, processor AND even the power supply. The only parts that I haven't touched are the video card and sound card. I've also since had a cl... Read more

Even before I replaced any parts at all, it didn't used to do this. I can't recall exactly when it began doing it, but I do remember that at one point it was fine. I simply mention the parts being changed since it happening as a way to possibly rule those out as a problem.

Anyone have any ideas as to what my problem could be?

Well the obvious "no-brainer" answer is the Video Card or the sound card. You've replaced every single thing in the system, to include the motherboard and the operating system.

Normally, first suggestions would be easy things like clearing the CMOS or reflashing the BIOS. But since you've replaced the m/b, that wouldn't make too much sense. Did you replace the m/b with the same make & model ?

Also, "normally" these symptoms sound like Power Supply. Posting exact specs on PSU is critical here.

But, given the information, and believing it is highly unlikely you have replaced defective parts with defective parts, that are (somehow) defective in exactly the same way, the only parts left are the Video Card and the Sound Card.

Parts is parts.

As the title said, my computer freezes during games. When it freezes the screen just stop at the last frame (so no black screen or anything like that) and I can hear the game for about a second before it turns to a low clicking sound. At which point I have to manually shut down the computer and restart it. Nothing else works. Then I get the usual question of how I want to start the computer, I always pick “start normally” and it’s like it never happened.

I think it’s because the GPU is overheating, because that’s the only component that’s really hot. When I check the temp while playing it’s usually building up to about 60C (24-30C on idle) and stays around that number. And it fells really hot when I touch it after it’s happened. The only problem with that theory is that I can play every game out there usually on the best setting (haven’t tried every powerful game out there) and not a single problem with lag or such. Then again, I’ve never had that problem with MW3, and the temp stays around 50C on that. Not to say that the GPU is really that great. It’s average at best, but I’m not a hardcore gamer or anything so figured I didn’t need the best.
I built the computer myself in June 2011. And it went fine without any problems until maybe 6 months ago, not really sure when it happened.

Hi. This is my first post.

I recently got the idea to split up my Outlook 2003 .pst into separate files to save space, load faster, etc. So, I copied the .pst, renamed the copy, and proceeded to clean out duplicate messages and compacted the files. I wanted the renamed file to be my default.

I then went in and added the new .pst as one to open and also changed which .pst would get my current mail.

After getting out of Outlook and then going back in, the program could not find the .pst it was looking for. The program then shut down after I pointed it to the .pst I wanted it to open. However, Outlook was still showing on the taskbar as running. I could not change back the names of the .pst's because the operating system was indicating that the files were still in use. I tried moving the files, renaming the .pst's back to their original names, repairing Outlook, even reloaded Outlook 2003 from disk after uninstalling all of Office. Since I cannot get Outlook to stay open long enough to change the options or data management details, this problem of program shutdown recurs over and over.

Any suggestions out there? Thanks.

Hi All-

I would greatly appreciate if anyone could help me with his problem. I'm trying to run a business utilizing my outlook express so I need to get this fixed ASAP!

When I attempt to open up Microsoft Outlook Express (I have MS Office 2003), it opens briefly then an error report screen appears that reads, "Business Contact Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." When I click on the error report data link it shows:

Error report for Business Contact Mgr.

EventType : bcm P1 : mapi P2 : typeinitializationexception
P3 : 1.0.2002.1 P4 : 11.0.6568 P5 : nativemsproviderinit
P6 : msproviderinit P7 : d40099fb
I've tried rebooting my computer but it is not fixing it. Please, can someone help me?! BTW, I'm proficient with computers but by no means an expert, so don't move too fast.

Could not find anything even though title is similar to other posts...I am using Windows XP and Office 2003.
While responding to emails, Word (as my editor) 'encountered a problem and needs to close'. The email I am working on freezes until I send the error report, then closes, and WORD opens as a separate new document aside from Outlook. Outlook continues to work. I have the error signature if that matters. If the recommendation is to reinstall Office, I would need to be certain that I don't lose my emails in the process. I have not installed anything new on my computer. I had this problem a few months ago and then it went away until today.

I have 3 servers in a site. I have moved 1200 users from server a to server b. I shutdown server a so that it can be reconfigured. Many users using outlook are locking up or hanging. Creating a new profile or removing and re-adding the outlook address book seems to fix it but I want to know why this is occurring and if there is a fix on the server side that can be used. Having to re-create 50 or 100 profiles would be a pain. Thanks.
