the remote device or resource won't accept the connection

Q: the remote device or resource won't accept the connection

I have been dealing with an issue where I am only able to get on a couple of websites, while every other website will not load. I have checked my auto-config settings and ive reset Internet Explorer. I used Microsoft's tool that tells you what the problem is and it came up with "the remote device or resource won't accept the connection". Ive gone through many different steps to find an answer to the problem and still unable to access any other website, im using a friends computer to hopefully get an answer to this issue. The operating system is Win 7 on a Toshiba Laptop. Thanks for the help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My desktop computer with Windows 7 started giving me this message about a month ago, and I could not get internet access. I used my cell phone to google the issue. I tried all of the recommended fixes (checking proxy settings, etc) but it still did not work. I did a system restore and got back on the internet, BUT, it continues to happen again every day or so, and again I have to do a system restore. Could anyone tell me WHY this is happening and how to fix the problem? Thanks.

Hello, I've been having this problem where it says "The remote device or resource won't accept hte connecion and it's extremely annoying, sometimes it's there, sometimes it is not.

I'm using a TP link extender with an Ethernet cable plugged into my computer. I also have from the TP link extender, a "5G" Network of my own network, which I can connect to using a mac, iphone ipad or xbox one. However, other members of my family can connect to the standard non 5G internet fine and work for them. Everyone else seems to be able to connect to the internet, but my computer, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Would appreciate some help restoring Internet connection.

Did an install of Windows 7, and, at first, had Internet access. Installed an AV (Panda), MBAM, Windows Updates, and also tried to upgrade IE8 to IE11. Have no clue what borked the connection.

Keep getting:
"The remote device or resource won't accept the connection."
"Connection with server cannot be established."

In Device Manager there was a Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface with a yellow flag. I removed it and restarted, but, it was not there after the reboot, so, it did not re-install.

Thanks for your help.

A:No Internet access, remote device or resource won't accept connection

Marie have you run the Network Connection Troubleshooter?

Did you install the wireless driver from the PC maker's Support Downloads webpage?

Can you plug in by ethernet cable to download that driver and install? In addition Check for Updates to install any other Important or Optional Updates, as other drivers or patches may be needed for this.

A search for the error here suggests resetting IE and also says spyware may be involved.

If you want I can connect via TeamViewer to go over and and finish setting up the install for you. Install at all defaults and PM to me the ID and pw. I am here til midnight PST tonight and all day tomorrow.

Well I'm on Windows 8 and my computer has been running fine until yesterday. Randomly at around 8:00, my internet shut itself and it wouldn't work. I tried resetting the router and such but nothing worked. My computer can connect to the internet connection,
but when I boot up Google Chrome it will not work. So I did some troubleshooting and eventually it said this "The remote device or resource won't accept the connection". And it's not only my internet browser that won't work. Other apps like Skype
won't connect either. After looking at another thread, I tried resetting the settings on Internet Explorer and changing the Proxy thing but nothing worked. Someone also suggested downloading Hitman, but that was stupid considering I couldn't even connect to
the internet. I had Windows Defender scan my computer and it said there was nothing wrong. So I'm not sure what is up. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

A:Cannot connect to Internet. "The remote device or resource won't accept the connection"

Make sure other device connected to your internet don't have similar issue
is there any changes before this issue happen? install, reinstall, windows update, HW changes, router setting or environment changes
just try at safe mode with networking, if its fine at safe mode with networking, than something to do with 3rd party software, antivirus, firewall ect. Try to restore your PC using restore point
if this issue also persist at safe mode, its considering driver or hardware failure (try to update driver, reinstall or run basic TS regarding WLan issue)

Hi all,
Back again with another Windows 8 problem My Dad's HP computer with Windows 8 was all working fine up until yesterday, but now for some reason, it can't access the Internet, even though it is connected (my laptop is connected to the same network and can access the net with no issues). I tried running a troubleshooter and I got a message saying "Remote device or resource won't accept the connection" though it didn't offer any solutions. I have tried resetting both the computer and the router and it has not made a difference. He has Kaspersky anti-virus and to my knowledge, has not installed/uninstalled any software recently, so I can't think of anything that would have caused it.

The only thing I could think of was that maybe the cable running from my router, through the roof to their computer in the other room may have somehow failed or become damaged, but in that case I would have thought it wouldn't be able to find the network at all (it still says it is connected to the Internet). Since testing this would involve climbing up into the roof etc and both I and my old man have dicky knees, I was hoping someone might have suggestions for what could be causing the problem, or how I might be able to fix it with (relative) ease. Thanks in advance

(P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong section or has already been answered, if this is the case, please just point me in the right direction)

A:"Remote device or resource won't accept the connection"

hmm I messed around on the computer for a while and for some reason the internet is now working perfectly. It seems that somehow sharing between networks had been turned off, and once I fiddled with that, it was up and running again.

Hello and thanks for reading,

I have the oddest problem here at work. I have a brand new Latitude E5530 that would not connect to the internet, but would connect to our LAN. We had the motherboard replaced by Dell, but a few weeks later, while a download of the free AVG anti-virus program was being installed, the same thing happened again where we could not connect to the WAN, but the LAN was fine.

I formatted the HDD, reinstalled the OS (7, Pro, 32bit), installed all the factory drivers and still the same thing.

This only happens when I'm at work. We have multiple laptops of the same make/model/OS that are working perfectly, but not this one (at least not for long)

One thing that does allow me to connect to the WAN. I have a LinkSys USB Ethernet Adapter. There is no Windows 7 driver for this, so I've used the Vista 32 bit driver when installing the software and I can connect no problem.

I've also had one other computer give me fits about accessing the WAN at my job. This unit (I believe it's a Dell optiplex 780) had XP installed and would occasionally lose WAN connection, but a reboot would take care of the problem. The problem grew to where more reboots were necessary until one day nothing could be done to connect to the WAN (once again, the LAN connection was fine). I ended up replacing that computer. Recently however, that computer also was having problems connecting to the WAN, even after removing/reinstalling the NIC driver. I used another of the LinkSy... Read more

Hello

I encountered a problem with my internet connection and I believe it may have to do with DNS. I can't access the internet at all on my laptop, neither Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Firefox work. I ran a diagnostics test and received this message: "The remore device or resource won't accept the connection." More details state that "the device or resource (www.microsoft.com) is not set up to accept connections on port 'The World Wide Web service (HTTP).' I've searched through many forums and tried countless possible solutions:

Resetting my computer
Power cycling the modem
Resetting Internet browser settings
Flushing the DNS via cmd
Releasing and renewing the IP address (Note: cmd is unable to renew the IP because it fails to connect to the DHCP server)
Disabling Windows Firewall
Checking for proxy settings that may be checked

I'm using a wired connection that goes directly to the modem, no router. An interesting thing to note is that I am able to connect to the internet via mobile hotspot on my Android phone. I've already contacted my ISP (Comcast) and they believe it's a computer related issue but through my trials, this doesn't seem to be the case. It looks like a DNS issue.

Hi,
Since updating to Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit (latest version), in File Explorer listed under Computer I see my other PC's but I no longer see devices like my Synology NAS etc. All PC's and devices are connected using ethernet cables via switches.

The devices still appear in File Explorer on my other Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit (latest version) PC under Computer so the problem seems to be on the first PC rather than my Asus router.

I just tried putting the name of the devices (\\diskstation etc) in the address bar of File Explorer and with one of the devices I got error 0x80004005 so I ran the trouble shooter and got this error:-

Detailed Information
The device or resource (FOXSAT-HDR) is not set up to accept connections on port "The File and printer sharing (SMB)".

I've tried disabling AVG virus software, Windows Firewall and my Asus Router firewall but it makes no difference
sfc /scannow was OK

The Network Adapter has had the latest driver installed.
I've hunted high and low for a solution, I went through this thread very closely ( https://tinyurl.com/p9gk9sn ) but still no solution ... HELP

Connection Diagnosis comes up with "The device or resource will not accept the connection". The laptop was not cleaned out very well, it appears only personal files were deleted. The last thing done on it was update downloads. (I know this because the battery was dead when I got it & the first thing it did when plugged in was "resume" windows & install updates. The computer I am on is old & SLOW & dying slowly & (for me) painfully. I can't afford to ship it back & take the 20% loss, but I NEED to be able to get on the net to work. Any ideas? Questions? Hi folks!

I've got a Windows XP Corporate Edition SP2 on a machine with processor Pentium 4, 1024MB memory a Plextor PX-716A DVD Burner and three hard drives (two of them are WDC, the one is SAMSUNG, all of them 7200RPM). I also got a TV-Out Video card (NVidia GF2 MX400) and two sound cards (one integrated, and another PCI).

I use the system basically for video editing, I got Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.x, I know it's quite old, but the only video editor which can be called professional instead of adobe and other crap, that are terribly slow and lacking many basic features.

Nowadays I noticed a kind of weird thing. I started playing a movie on the secondary monitor and have set the priority of the media player to 'Realtime' which ensures, that under no circumstances would it be bothered by other applications taking the resources. On the desktop (Primary monitor) I started Ulead MSP, the video editor application. At first it was going smoothly, but after a while when I was seeking in my project footages, the system started jamming (both applications did this).

As I know, the priority setting in Windows XP is to tell the system which application should be given more resources at the expense of the others. So I'd have no problem if only Ulead MSP had been stalling, but both apps did, so is the priority setting for nothing?

Before I forget: the movie was being played on the secondary screen was running from DVD. The DVD Drive is jumpered to be MASTER, so it has priorit... Read more

My laptop is tethered to my droid x and I have a connection but I still get the yellow caution sign with the exclamation point and it says no internet access. I troubleshoot and get this your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS) is not responding but I do have a connection to the internet. I'm wondering how to get rid of the icon since it's the wrong message.

[Using Windows 10]
This is the message I was given when I ran the windows network troubleshooter. For the actual problem, I have issues having a stable connection with any website. (It works weird, though. Discord loads messages fine but can't process pictures, and Youtube only load the page, not the video. For any other site, though, I just straight up can't connect. This is with all browsers.)

This happened after a virus attack, so I assumed this problem had to have from that. But I've ran every malware, junkware, even rootkit remover tool I can think of and I have yet to come up with anything substantial. The best thing I got is HitmanPro detecting some cookies from advertising companies on Firefox.

Another thing to note is that my home has 2 signals, and I can jump between them for, like, 60 seconds of semi-functional internet. The fact that that works at all also leads me to believe that it's the cause of a virus.

I have also tried:
-Changing the IPv4 DNS addresses
-Renewing the ipconfig in the command prompt.
-Completely resetting Firefox MULTIPLE times.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi guys. I'm having the problem of disconnecting every 5-10mins and had to wait for like 2-3 mins to get the internet back on since 8/9/2015. I'm living in hostel of my college. I applied internet connection from the college and I'm using a wired connection. I reported this problem to the Internet Department , they checked the line from server room and said my port is fine ( what they mean is I can access to the internet and thats all ) . I reported to them again but they said there's no problem with my internet , and I even had them change my port to the another one, but the same problem still exist ( i have 2 ports in my room ). I just wanna know if its my laptop causing this problem because on 6/7/2015 I still can use it without any problem , on 7/7 I can't access to the internet (but my friends have no problem with the internet until now)tried with both of the ports. and 8/7 i have problem disconnecting every 5-10 mins.

Tried unticking ipv6
Tried renew/ release / flushdns
Tried uninstall and reinstall network adapter
Off firewall
Used AVG antivirus to scan computer for virus
Checked the power management for network adapter
Downloaded mumble on 6/7 night but uninstalled it. ( so far didn't download anything else )

Hope to get solutions for you all. Thanks

I'm using windows 10 and this is the message I received. I don't remember when this started to happen, by I've tried everything from the Microsoft troubleshooting website and nothing seems to work. Just about to give up and purchase a new computer.

I saw someone else get help just by technician looking at their logs, I was wondering if anyone can look at my logs and help me as well? Thanks!

Hello Sevenforums members.

I have this weird problem with my laptop - i cant browse the internet, nor use any programs or games that require internet connection, however my network its still receiving and sending packages AND i CAN chat and receive/send files with skype . After diagnostic trows the "Can't communicate with Primary DNS Server" error message.I don't have router nor modem, i use cable directly.

Also my other PC witch has 100% identical network settings( IP, Mac address etc. the only difference is that is Windows XP) connects to internet with no problems whatsoever.

Been searching the internet for some way to resolvet the problem all day, so far with no success. If you have any ideas what could be causing the problem please do answer below.
Also if you if you need any additional information - please be specific.

Thanks in advance.

A:Windows can't communicate with the device or resource

When you say you use cable Directly do you mean Via a Cable modem or from a hole in the wall?

If this is the case, I have learned that Cable modems will set up your computer Via the Cable modem with IP from there DHCP and will tend to stick with this.

When you plug into your computer restart the Cable modem.

Also you cant have the same MAC address as every Ethernet card has its own mac address. Hence the Cable modem assigns the IP's Direct via Mac assignment.

FIrst of all, hi everybody, this is my first post here!!

i use win xp pro w/sp 2 and usb adls modem, and this is my problem: i created a vpn with a friend of mine, everything is perfect, except for one thing: i can connect to him (i mean, he acts as server) but i cannot be the server, when he tries to connect to me, he gets a connection refused error.. another example, i can play games as client but not as host... i can use a software for remote desktop (VNC free edition) and i can see his desktop (act as client) but he can't see mine (he gets timeouts and connection refused errors)...

i shutdown the firewall, the antivirus, and lowered internet security in windows, but i never managed to make it work!

apart from that, every p2p program works perfectly, so i'm a bit confused...

help...! i don't know how to fix this issue! wacko.gif

thanks in advance!

A:XP doesn't accept incoming connection, Help!

Do you have a DSL router with a firewall on it? Do you know what port is being used when you're trying to act as a server? If so, have your friend try to telnet to that port. You can also try locally telnetting to that port. If he can't, then the port is being blocked for some reason. If you can't, then there may be something else going on. If you're able to change the port, try that.

I am currently trying to setup a printer but cannot get past the connection to the network part. To connect to the router, computers, tablets, and smart phones have to "accept terms" because it is a business router. Is the "accept terms" getting in the way of the printer connecting to the network properly? If not, how do I connect my printer to the network to be able to print?  Thank you in advance!

When I go into the Network Connections and do a diagnose. I get the following message. I tried doing netsh int ip reset reset.txt, and restart my PC, but it doesn't fix the error. Will someone help me fix it please?

Your computer appears to be configured, but the device or resource (DNS Server) is not responding.

What does that mean?

Thank you!

this one took me for a ride. my PC was running fine one minute then when I tried to get on the internet it wouldn't connect. I got the message "windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary dns server)". I unplugged my ethernet cable from my pc to my laptop and was able to connet to the net, all the wireless devices (Ipod, Ipad smartphone etc..) had no problem connecting to the net. for 2 days I searched for a solution. I did everything that was suggested on the different websites. none worked. one website suggested that I change my preferred ip adress to 8.8.8.8 and alternate to 8.8.4.4 (in Ipv4) I figured what do I have to lose and bingo it worked. I still don't know what happened any info would be good. Now my problem is my laptop won't connect to the net wirelessly all the other devices are fine. any suggestions would be helpful.

Randomly throughout the day I sometimes get this problem and it makes me have to reset my router.

Anyone know how to fix this?

I've searched online for multiple methods with all the command prompt commands, scanning with malware / adwcleaner etc... Tried using different open DNS or automatic obtain DNS. I'm also using automatic obtain IP.

Maybe it has something to do with my router settings on my router website(?)

If there are any information I should post, please tell me.

Thanks for your help.

I have purchased a USB 3.0 Seagate Backup Plus 3TB drive and since I do not care for the software provided I performed a quick format. I then proceeded to backup my primary drive along with a system image using Windows 7 Backup.

The backup appears to have taken place as I can see the files using windows explorer. When the system image process is in progress I receive the following " The specified network resource or device is no longer available. Details: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error. " The error code specified is 0x80070037.

I can perform the backup and system image with no errors using a USB 2.0 Hitachi 1TB drive that I hope to replace with the Seagate 3 TB drive.

I have a Dell XPS8500 with 16GB memory, Hitachi 2TB primary drive using Windows 7 Ultimate and the affected drive is connected to one of the four USB 3.0 ports using a USB 3.0 cable provided in the Seagate package.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Archquark,

It seems that hard-drive is getting powered off while you are transferring the data on the external harddrive.

Do you have any power light on the hard-drive that shows hard-drive is on or off? Also, let us know if it is externally powered or draws power from the USB drive only.

Please check the drive on different USB port and if possible with a different USB cable to isolate the cause of the issue.
