Windows wont boot hangs up on agp440.sys and wont complete boot off the disk :/

Q: Windows wont boot hangs up on agp440.sys and wont complete boot off the disk :/

So my co worker asked me to look at her laptop its a toshiba tecra m2. The boot keeps hanging up on the system32 file agp440.sys . I went on the internet and found a windows xp pro disk to try and replace the system32 file using recovery. After a learning how to add SATA drivers to the windows xp boot I was able to detect the hard drive and just before windows setup screen comes up the computer blue screens with a 0x0000007B stop error... I read that the battery could cause this so i carefully took apart the computer and replaced it with no change. I put a windows 7 disk in to see if i could use the recovery console in it and suprisingly it booted no problem, i was able to use command prompt but with no idea what the problem is i have no idea what to do with it. If anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated. Thanks for reading the problem hope someone has an idea. any more info needed just ask

thanks

Preferred Solution: Windows wont boot hangs up on agp440.sys and wont complete boot off the disk :/

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Windows wont boot hangs up on agp440.sys and wont complete boot off the disk :/

Info on 7B STOP errors...http://www.aumha.org/a/stop.htm, scroll down to 7B in left column.

IMO, you have compounded the situation by using a "downloaded" version of Windows, since I suspect that such may contain embedded malware as part of the package.

Any number of things may have caused the initial hang, as you can see by reading the data at the Aumha website.

okay time for me to need help.....

have an xp home machine that wont boot up normally, when i boot into safe mode it halts at the agp440.sys file. which is a grafix card driver file apparently.

according to microsoft you can boot into sys rec console and disable the agp440 service through

c:\windows>listsvc

the only problem I have is it doesnt list any services when I type this command.

I have located the agp440.sys file and ren to agp440.old but the machine just halts on a different file now..

any help would be appreciated.

the machine is a HP machine with a hidden recovery partition which I obviously dont want to have to use.

apparently the problem is caused by incomatible grafix card drivers..

A:XP halts at agp440.sys and wont boot

because the same thing happened to me? I couldn't even get to Safe mode. I had to use the recovery console to uninstall SP2 (using the command line syntax from MS website).

Hello there,

It seems like you did not perform a clean installation of Windows and that's why your system is acting up.

Follow the steps below to install a new copy of Windows:

1. To format your hard disk during Windows 7 installation you will need to start or boot your computer using the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive. Insert your Windows 7 disc in your CD/DVD drive. Please note: will need to restart or turn on your system with the disc in the drive.
2. After turning on your system with the CD in the drive go ahead and press any key when prompted during your computer post routine and then follow the instructions presented on screen. If you don’t see this go back to step 1 to setup your BIOS to boot from CD or USB flash drive depending on your installation media.
3. On the Install Windows page simply enter your preferences and click next.

4. Accept the Windows license agreement.

5. On the “Which type of installation do you want” page go ahead and choose the “Custom” option.

6. Select Drive options (advanced) on the “Where do you want to install Windows” page.

7.  Select the partition that you want to change, choose the formatting option you want to perform and then follow the instructions.
When allocating space choosing the default MB size for your drive is typically the best for most users since you want to take full advantage of all your disk... Read more

Hi a couple of months ago my system crashed, windows 7 wouldnt boot, and I misplaced my installation disk. I had the problems several times since obtaining the computer several years ago. (Lenovo IDeaPad y450). I attributed the problem to what I believed was a bad hard disk, so I replaced it with a refurbished model.
I installed Ubungu 13.10, and it worked well ever since. I later located my win 7 disk and created a dual boot. Windows worked very well for several months until it stopped starting up last week. It would get to the black windows screen, where it says starting, and usually get stuck there. I would get fed up and turn it off after half an hour. Once it was as the screen and it later started the checkdisk program and found no errors. Another time it finally got into windows after a very long loading time, and it seemed to work fine, until the next time I restarted windows. It just went back to the loading windows screen.
I formatted the windows partition through GParted in Ubuntu, and tried the installation disk, and it would get stuck at 0% in the "expanding files" sequence. After an hour of hoping something would happen I got fed up and forced it off again.
Not sure what to do from this point. I have read other posts and it has led me to think that the issue could possibly be bad RAM or an issue with BIOS. But, Ubuntu has been working fine, while Windows has simply been freezing at any attempt of a startup.

A:Win 7 , Ubuntu dual boot, windows wont boot, startup disk doesnt help

It could be that the HDD has a bad sector in the Windows partition, or that the drive is actually failing. If there is a utility in Linux that tests memory, I would run it.

You could also use Memtest86+. It runs from a CD/DVD. Let it run for several passes to rule out bad RAM.

I deleted some files from a virus and now it wont boot up fully. It acts as if it will startup but hangs at the user logon screen. I also cant boot in safemode. How do i go about doing the repair install or system recovery so that i dont lose data??

On the windows cd i have that came with my laptop(toshiba) i get 2 options when i boot up.
1. Recover entire hard disk: (warning) all stored data on your computer will be lost. Factory pre-installed software will be installed.

2. Expert recovery mode: (warning) this is for PC experts only. Factory pre-installed software can be installed onto an existing(bootable) partition.

What can i do to try and get windows to load up without losing data??

Hey.

I am trying to install Windows XP Pro.
I am currently running Windows Vista Ultimate SP2
But i also have a Windows 7 RC Partition.
I want to install XP over the windows 7, and at some point perhaps over the vista too (i just have too much stuff on there i dont want to loose at the minute)

So anyway, i already know i cant install XP through windows vista as you cant "downgrade".

But i put the disk in and restart my computer, i have set it to boot from CD but it doesn't even give me the option to press any key to boot from CD, its just goes straight ahead and carries on with booting Vista / Windows 7.

But when i put my Ubuntu Disk In It Boots From CD, so im doing that bit correct.

Can anyone help??

A:PC wont complete boot up

Hi leannaluv,

Use "Ultimate Boot CD" to diagnos the hardware on your computer. Here is the link to the Ultimate Boot CD website: Ultimate Boot CD - Overview. Put the program onto a CD and boot the computer to it. Then test the computer hardware such has motherboard, ram, and cpu to to make sure they all work fine.

Another thing you can do is to perform a "Check Disk Repair" on your computer. Boot the computer to your Windows XP CD and on the main menu, choose "R" to go to the recovery console. Then on the repair console, type in "chkdsk /r" to perform a check disk repair. Make sure there is a space between "chkdsk" and "/r". Hope everything works out for you.

A:reeinstalling windows disk wont boot

To reinstall, you need to boot from the XP Installation disc . . to do that, enter BIOS ( Setup ) and set the first boot device as CD/ROM.

Put your XP Disc in the drive and disconnect all external peripherals

Once you set your BIOS to boot first from cd . . when it restarts you will see a black screen with a prompt "Press any key to boot from CD" . . do that and you will be able to delete any or all partitions and recreate one or more, then proceed to formating and installing XP.

That message can pass quickly, so have a finger on the keyboard when you boot. This will delete all data on the drive so be sure you have your important data backed up. The prompt will appear after every reboot, but do not press any key on subsequent reboots. The setup process will continue with no action required from you.

If you are installing on SATA drive, there is an additional step:

When you say there was a one line flash, can you post what that line said? Tapping F12 at boot on a Dell will bring up the Diagnostic Menu. Run the Diagnostics to see if the problem is hardware related.

I was having some minor issues, so I decided to do a "reset my pc". The "lite" procedure...remove the files, reinstall the os,  keep the computer.  I assume that meant clean install, not multiple passes, should complete in a reasonable amount of time.It got to the point where, after restart,  it was showing the percentage of progress, but when I came back to it there was just a black screen.I use my TV as my monitor, so I switched inputs, and for about 5 seconds I could see the little dotted "progress" circle revolving, then disappear. This would repeat every time I switched imports back and forth. After more than an hour, I manually shut it down and started up again. this time a different looking screen appeared than the percentage screen before. A large circle saying it was installing the os, and then started to display the percentage of completion (starting at 5%) and that it would restart several times. So I checked back about 10 minutes later and it was at 9%, so I figured it was ok, crossing my fingers. But now after quite a while (close ti 1 1/2 hours) it is back to the dotted circle, which fades away after about 5 seconds. Is this normal. How long should I wait? Can I ceate a recovery/installatioin disk for my specific unit and start the process over.  My concern was that a disk will not have the drivers I need.

I registered my windows 7 starter asus netbook for windows 10 upgrade, and then cloned the 250GB slow 5400rpm hard disk to a 240GB SSD ( about 80GB was left on the C drive, nothing on the D drive, and the 80 MB and 10 MB partitions I thought were the dual
boot linux partitions-but they werent, that is actually on the motherboard!). So the new SSD contains a single 220 GB window 7 partition which paragon assigned the letter H, and the two tiny partitions are there I
suspect the 80MB partition might be the ASUS repair partition. When I put this disk in and tried to boot it refused. It did boot into the splash screen (a very limited Linux OS thast just web browses, skypes and looks at photos) then I was able to
use the windows repair disk I made and it corrected the boot error and when I logged in I got the black screen with mouse cursor. I was able tyo use ctrl alt del to start the task amanger and start explorer.exe. That allowed me to boot to a "temporoary"profile
which it said would disappear when I logged off. a few programs worked but control panel office etc didnt. I could only start google earth, adobe reader and a couple of other things. A little message in the corner said "this copy of windows is not genuine".

I'm trying to fix a PC for a relative. The problem is that it wont reboot at all after it got the blue screen at start up. The computer would continuously reboot until you turned it off. It's not possible to boot into safe mode either.

I have tried booting from a Windows XP disc. The CD drive recognises the disc and begins to boot. It will get so far and then get the error message "File sbp2port.sys is corrupted. Press any key to continue"

Doing this only results in the computer rebooting again and being stuck in a loop.

Any help or advice is much appreciated.

More problems with my nephew's computer again!

He tried to access Microsoft Word on his new Dell Dimension and when he couldnt find it, used the disk to install from...got impatient (he's 13 and a complete novice) and started clicking around. When he shut the 'puter off and turned it back on again, the Dell logo comes up, then the XP logo on the blue screen comes up, but then it hangs and wont boot into Windows. I tried having my sister hit F12 to go into the boot sequence and told her to press 1 but it still didnt work. I then tried having her hit F8 and then F2 after (shutting down both times) and she still cant boot up.

Any chance he uninstalled XP by mistake? I'm not sure what else to tell her to try (over the phone at that!)

Appreciate any advice or ideas of what to try. Thanks

What exact messages do you get? What "advanced options" are you talking about? Also, it appears this site's profanity filter has blocked something in your post. Using such language is not helpful.

Hey Everyone,
Im having problems with my computer and its driving me insane! Please help me. Even as a techie, I cant figure this one out...

I was working on my computer when it froze. It has done that before so I shut it off and turned it back on.
Well I turned it back on to a Windows XP boot logo that faded in half way then stopped. The blue status bar didnt show up but the XP logo faded in about half way.

Anyways, I tried rebooting in safe mode to no avail.

I tried booting with the Last Known Configuration to no avail.

I tried Memtest86, alls good.

I tried Microsofts Mem Test, alls good.

I tried booting to Linux. That worked but then it froze too! I shut the computer off (because it froze) and booted it back up and now SuSE wont even load!

I tried booting the Windows XP CD so I could repair the installation but it wont load, it hangs on "Setup is starting Windows".

I tried updating the mobo bios.

I tried resetting bios config back to defaults.

The day before I just ran Spybot and Adaware with latest definitions.

When I try to boot to Safe mode it hangs on nv_agp.sys (that may or may not have anything to do with it).

I have an MSI K7N2G-L mobo, 2x 512MB Crucial DDR400(?) RAM, im trying to boot from a fairly new (3 month old maybe) Maxtor 60GB hard drive 7200RPM. Ive also got an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AGP video card, USB mouse and PS/2 keyboard. Two network cards (ones wireless, ones wired - both Netgear), a standard MSI brack... Read more

Hey Bleeping Computer, How is everyone tonight? So I am working on a Samsung Laptop ( MOdel Number=Series 3 NP300E5C - A0AUS) My friend in my Math class just bought it literally 3 days ago from Best Buy and they told her they would install any software she needed when she paid for it, but when she picked it up they wouldnt without charging her extra (so they flat out lied to make a sale) Anyways thats besides the point, so it has Windows 8 installed and she absolutely hates Windows 8!!! So I told her I could install Windows 7 for her and all the software she needs, (thats easy) But here is my problem.... PROBLEM: The Samsung Laptop WILL NOT boot from disk, it will not boot from any disk, I have tried Windows 7 (obviously) but I have also tried Puppy Linux, Parted Magic, Mem Soft (various other bootable disks that Bleeping Computer has given me over the years... I have gone into BIOS and changed the boot priority to CD drive, I have messed around with the BIOS trying to get it to boot from a disk and it wont. Windows 8 boots up so damn quick, I can enter Bios by hitting F2 at the Samsung splash screen and I can enter BIOS but I can not find a boot menu like hitting F8, F6, F12, F11 other ones I have used in the past on other machines, none of them seem to work. I can not get it to boot from disk, It looks like I can install windows 7 from the desktop but if it will not boot from Disk then when it restarts during install I am worried about. She Hates Windows 8 She ... Read more

A:Windows 8 Installed LAPTOP WONT BOOT off windows 7 disk

Hey just to let you guys know the BIOS is Phoenix SecureCore Tiano. There is a setting called Secure Boot (not sure what it does exactly) but I have not changed it, the only thing I have changed is the Boot Priority menu. If this Laptop wont boot from disk I am going to tell her to return it, and then in the future boycott samsung or any laptop maker that does not give you the option to boot from disk, This does make me angry with the future of computers I am hoping for an easy fix. My poor friend, she is totally computer illiterate(does not know how to install software at all) so I am trying to be a good friend and help her out!!

Dou you get a message "Error loading OS" Do you have 2 hard drives??? If so... Is the operating sysytem loaded on the master or slave drive. if the OS is loaded on the slave drive the sysytem cannot find the master bood record, because it is located on the master drive. FIX Open case and switch the slave drive to master and master drive to slave. Hope this helps.

Yesterday I put win7 32 bit on my old dell xps m1730 laptop. This process was way easier than the last time when I re-installed xp, where I had to install EVERY driver known to man! The end result is flawless with one exception...When I start the machine up the bootable ISO disc must be in in order for it to start up.

A:wont boot without disk

Check you BIOS settings. It may not have the HD in the boot order. As a quick test there should be a key that temporarily changes the boot order. On my Laptop it is F12. Keep tapping on boot. You should get a menu allowing you to put the HD first or add it. If it boots from HD there then go into BIOS Boot settings and set it permanently.

It may say on startup which key opens your settings. If not try doing a restart. That should do an actual shutdown and restart which may give you time to read the startup message with the key press info.

I installed a second SATA HD on my daughters PC and added 2GB of DDR2 memory after updating the GeForce 7200 video drivers. The system runs fine with dual monitors on my test bench but will not complete boot with the same configuration at her house. POST is very slow and then hangs after "Windows is Starting" message is displayed. Screen goes blank and no further activity.

A:Boot won't complete. System hangs after starting Windows

If it was working fine and all you have done is move it, the first thing to check is that all cables etc. are firmly and correctly seated (although I would probably expect it to fail boot earlier than starting windows in that instance).

Create any other bootable CD, like UBCD4Win: http://www.ubcd4win.com/index.htm and see, if it'll boot.
That will tell you, if you have CD drive problem, or your recovery CD problem.

When I start up my computer which I recentl put together, it stays at the Bioware opening screen for about 3 minutes, displays the cpu fan speed and voltage info, and then has an error- "Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter"
If I disconnect the hard drive, it goes through everything over 100 times as fast (bioware screen passed through 1 second after the moniter shows the image) , but ends up with the same error.
The hard drive isn't new, and it worked on my other computer. Ive checked the cable several times and it is securely connected to both the power supply and the ide socket. Also, in the bios, it shows something about "Capacity-a little more than 30000, cylanders-etc" My hard drive is 30 gig, so I assume it does detect it. ??? ???

I bought a new motherboard and processor. First i had to, do a repair install so that i could even get to windows, then after that without the cd in the cd rom it would ask me to specify a device to load from, basically saying it did not detect a boot loading device. I had changed all my bios settings to boot from ide1 which is where my hd is and detected. Then I put the cd back into the cdrom and when it detects it as a boot able cd it ask if you want to start the setup process press any key. If I dont press any key it boots right up to windows. I was thinking maybe its my ntldr file but highly unlikely. please help I do not want to boot with cd for the rest of my computers life.

I am running a Gateway Solo 5300 and I decided a little while (about a week) ago to switch to Ubuntu. BIG MISTAKE . Anyway, I was able to install it through a boot disk and the install went just fine. Now its freezing and whatnot, so I decided it was a good idea to switch back. Anyway, I have a WinXP professional edition disk and I put it in the Atapi CD-ROM drive restart ect ect ect. I made sure that the boot order menu is running the optical drive first, hard drive last in the boot order and I let it run and I can hear the optical drive turn on and run but it doesn't boot from the CD, it goes right to GRUB and boots from the hard drive. What do I need to do?

#1 Hi, basically this probem arose from nowhere. I came back from holiday 6 days ago and my pc took longer than i remember to boot. Only till i realised the next day and day after it was getting longer and some times not loading past the 'Windows' screen. Each time when it hasn't loaded fully, I turn it off and re-boot pressing F8 to get up safe mode, which doesn't work at all.
It gets stuck on '/avgdiseh' doesn't load past and will stay like that till turned off. Start up repair does absolutely nothing, it asks to do System restore which then errors and reboots, if i press cancel it stays on the 'Scanning' screen for hours.. (8 hours today)

#2 I've now seemed to run into another problem trying to boot from my CD drive. First time I loaded everything correctly got to 'install windows' screen clicked start up repair which did nothing. Ever since that windows won't detect my CD drive even though it opens and did read CD's.(watched a film on it the other day)

I've looked online and other people have had the same problems and clearly i haven't found a solution yet. I've tried cleaning the inside of my case, double checking connections, changing boot options. From what i've read its either a failed HDD, failed RAM (, or failed CD drive in the case of my second dilemma)

I'm just curious as to whether anyone can pin point what the problem is. If its an easy fix or whether it is possibl... Read more
