I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I brought a laptop that was the display model at Sam's yesterday.  I was trying to do a factory reset, but once it gets to "Installing Windows" it does a continuous loop.  It will start off at 64% then go to 100%, then restart.  When it comes back on, it is still "Installing Windows" and goes right to 64%, then 100%, then restart.  I started at 10:45pm last night (7/28/2016) and it is still saying the same thing. What can I do to stop the cycle?

Hey @GwenC,  Thanks for trying the steps as prescribed by my colleague. The next path to resolution would be performing an HP System Recovery. You can learn more about that process here. If you have not already created recovery media, I would advise you to contact our tech support team here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/product/HP-Pavilion-Gaming-15-ak100-Notebook-(Touch)/10282847/model/10402445 The alternative to that is taking the PC back to the point of purchase for an exchange (if you're still within their return timeline).  I hope this helps. Good luck!

I tried to reset my computer today after 3 years of using it without any sort of re-formatting, and all three times the reset got stuck on 65% before a blue screen appeared and said that an error occurred. It would then give me the options of either:
a) returning back to my windows 10, with nothing changed
b) Trying to reset again
c) advanced options.

I tried the reset 3 times, and after the last try failed I went to advanced options to look at other ways to approach the issue, such as checking if there were any restore points that I could restore to (which there were none).

After that didn't work, I clicked on the first option of just returning back to my windows 10, and that was when it would not start up anymore.

My computer now is stuck on a infinite loop of the launch screen of the ASUS logo, it flashes, then goes onto the second ASUS logo, and this is all it does, go round and round.

I tried to boot it on F8, F9 (the ASUS recovery button), and the 'delete' button. NOTHING WORKS.

I finally tried F2, which led me to the BIOS page? And I clicked on the boot tab and disabled the first boot configuration option, and still to no avail. It returned to looping, and when trying F8, F9, after disabling that BIOS option, and it still won't do anything but loop.

Any ideas?

A:Win10 factory reset failed 3 times. Stuck on startup loop now

Obviously you have another computer that is working.
The following is to do a Clean Install Of Windows 10.
Use the link below and download the current Windows 10 ISO file > then burn it to a bootable media ( DVD or USB ).
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/techbench

Note : make sure you select the same language, and bit version as your Asus computer.

Take the bootable media to your Asus computer > go to the Bios ( F2 key ) > set the boot order to CD/DVD or USB (depending on which bootable media you are using ) > insert the media > restart computer.
Installation will begin.
You will be asked for a product key. Click the Skip option ( or a "I do not have a product key" option ) and continue.
Activation should be automatic.

Getting an infinite loading sort of error where my comp goes to HP loading screen, blackscreen, turns off, and repeats. Very annoying and nothing I've seen so far is working. I don't have a disk or drive to use to reload Windows with, and I didn't set any system restore points like an idiot, so I'm stuck here. I'm not that great with computers so any help would be appreciated, thanks.

3000 J115 Desktop (7389-24G) I restored to original using F11 and following the instructions.  No errors were noted and when it requested a reboot to continue, the computer reboots and for a moment shows a white screen before rebooting again and again...  I re-did the restore to factory (F11) again and had the same results.  Do I need to load drivers or something?  I don't have any original disks or restore disks.

A:Factory reset (F11) causes reboot loop

hi Slim_Whitman,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

If you get as far as Step 20 of this guide, but just shows a white screen then there's probably an internal problem on the unit (could be bad sectors on the HDD). To verify this, you will need to run a diagnostic on the drive,

To create a diagnostic disc:
1. Download the UBCD ISO
2. Burn the ISO using imgburn
3. Insert the CD that you just created into the defective computer and reboot
4. Upon reboot, continuously press F12 and boot from the ODD/CD-DVD
5. On the diagnostic options, navigate to HDD > Diagnosis > & choose the diagnostic software depending on the brand of your HDD (i.e. choose Seagate for DOS if you have a Seagate HDD, Data Lifeguard if you have a Western Digital HDD, etc..)

To burn the diagnostic softwre on a flashdrive, follow this guide
If you get any errors, you will need to contact lenovo for service.
If you don't get any errors, the recovery partition might be faulty and you need to contact lenovo and obtain a copy of the recovery disc.

Hope this helps.

my computer is a Gateway Intel Pentium...we use windows 7...my browser is google chrome ...it's got a touchscreen which is where the computer is, no tower! i'm new to computers...so please forgive my lack of proper terminology. so someone told me to do a factory restore...the first part went quickly. the second part was an hr. into it and the screen still said the same thing..."Set up is starting services". the second i left the room my daughter turned off the computer! when it restarted it said "Set up will continue after your computer restarts", then "Starting windows" screen... next "set up is starting services". then an Error box that says, "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error(yeah, it was my kid!) to install windows, click "OK" to restart the computer and then restart the installation". that's when it gets like that movie Ground Hog's Day! you click "OK" the computer restarts and there's the error box again, thus begins the loop! help! Please!

A:factory reset error loop

Hi, did you manage to save any needed files and data - before you run the factory restore?

Sometimes a factory restore does not always work as the files have become corrupted, and damaged.
This is even more likely to happen if the restore has been interrupted.
Once the process has started "Set up is starting services" etc. if it stalls at that point - then the restore loop will continue.

You may now have to seek some help from a local pc repair shop.
Unless someone here has another suggestion.

Since the reset has been started and stopped midway, there is no help for that. You need to download MS Media Creation Tool, use it to fetch the Windows ISO. Burn the ISO to DVD or USB memory stick. Then install Windows for scratch.

I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro that came with Windows 8.1 installed. I done went and upgraded to Windows 10, and now I can't get past the logon screen. I put in my password, it says Welcome, and then loops back to the logon screen. This happened to my laptop, but going in through Safe Mode seemed to have fixed that issue.
I can't get the tablet into Safe Mode, though, to complete the process. I'm guessing BitLocker was activated by default from the factory? I don't have the key to get past the BitLocker screen, so I can't really do anything.
I made a bootable Windows 10 flash drive to use with an OTG cable, but when it loads into the setup, all input seems to be negated so I can't even run through the setup process to repair startup. My bluetooth keyboard was used by a friend, so I can't re-pair it with the tablet since I can't get into Windows, and I can't exactly use a physical keyboard while also using the flash drive, and the touch doesn't work. The keyboard has a USB port, and I tried to chain them in order to use both, but it just makes device fritz out.
What are my options, here? I don't care if I lose everything on it, I just want it to be usable at this point.

My pc is running windows 8.1.  I am trying to just reset it and get it back to the factory settings.

I ran the reset but it failed.  It has now been trying to do the automatic repair, but that is failing.  It just keeps taking me back to the screen to select a reset or refresh.

I found some instructions that said to rename the system to system.001 and software to software.001.  I was able to rename the system but when I try to do the software it says it is unable to rename it because it is being used by another process.

I have a recovery disk that I put in, but I still cant get out of this loop.  It doesn't take me to the desktop it only tries to do the automatic repair.  Not sure what I need to do to get it to use the disk.

Can someone help me to reset my computer?

Did the computer originally come with Windows 8 or 8.1?

Is there any data you need to pull from the hard drive such as bookmarks or email? Are you using Microsoft Office on the computer?

If not go here and download the 8.1 media disk that is the same as your version, home or pro. This will let you create an iso,DVD, or bootable USB flash drive. Boot the media and start the install. See this guide on doing a clean install. When it asks for the key select next. When you go online the computer should self-activate after pulling your key from firmware.

I have an msi laptop with windows 7. I have been experiencing some issues with it. Last night I tried to do a factory reset. The one where you press F3 during startup. Everything seemed like it was going great. The progress bar was moving along. It got all the way to the end and nothing happened. I left it alone overnight hoping it was just slow. This morning it's still displaying the progress bar and the elapsed time is still ticking away. Nothing has changed. I don't know what to do! To add to my sense of panic, there is a note on the top of the screen clearly stating to not touch any key while the reset is happening. Clearly the computer is trying to mess with my mind on purpose.

A:Windows 7 factory reset is stuck

A factory reset should never take more than a couple of hours if that. Obviously something is wrong. If you were having issues before the reset the failure could be due to a hardware issue such as a failing hard drive. You will need to stop the reset.

Do you have access to another computer? If  you do then download UBCD and burn the iso to a CD on a Windows 7 or later computer by right clicking the iso file and selecting Burn Disk Image. Boot UBCD and at the menu screen select HDD > Diagnosis. Scroll down to Seatools for Dos and do the short/long tests. If Seatools for DOS does not detect your drive then at the UBCD menu screen select Parted Magic. At the Parted Magic desktop select Disk Health. It could be called GsmartControl. Run the short and long tests. If they pass boot UBCD again and use Memtest86+ to run a memory test. Let it run for at least 6 passes and preferably overnight.

I have an old packard bell laptop that I recently just factory reset because I was recieving it from a friend. It reset fine, no problems, but when it tried to boot up, it got caught in the boot loop that many other win10 users have been experiencing. It takes me through the setup page you go through on new laptops, and then when it would normally load the desktop it just goes back to the start of the cycle.

Anticipating this, I created a restore drive in a USB flash drive, but am unable to run from it since I forgot to bear in mind that the function keys (along with a few other keys on the keyboard) do not work, so I can't get into the BIOS menu or the manual boot menu.

A:Boot loop after factory reset - Function Keys not working!

If that is indeed an old packard bell laptop, it would be impossible to "factory reset" it to Windows 10 because it would have come with an older operating system.

What is the model name and model number of that laptop?
What is the exact Windows version on its Certificate-Of-Authenticity sticker?

Hi,

So frustrated and baffled by what shouldn't be a big deal... after a week of searching online/trying things, I'm ready to pitch laptop out the window. :/ I'm hoping someone recognizes this situation and what might be necessary to fix it.  I'll try to make this as brief as possible.

This is an HP Envy 14, originally bought w W7. A month ago i accidentally "upgraded" to W10 and didn't revert back to W7 in the 30 day window.  So last week I was trying to get rid of W10, which I didn't like and had multiple issues.  Eventually I booted off the recovery discs I made when I got the laptop years ago, all 4 discs used, and it seemed to be installing fine.  Messages on laptop that it was setting computer up for first time use, etc.

Then when the "Starting Windows" message comes up w the W7 logo, it's followed by the Windows Recovery error message (Windows didn't shut down correctly last time; start in Safe Mode, etc) and is in a loop. Going into Safe Mode results in an error message that Windows can't complete installation in Safe Mode and to restart the computer.  This leads to the HP screen, which automatically starts up W7, which results in the error message.

This happened both when I ran Factory Reset and I think the other option was System Restore.

Also tried using a repair disc, which didn't fix the problem.

My son (who's helping me in this) thought maybe there was leftover stuff from W10 that was causing the... Read more

Please someone help me. My laptop has been messed up ever since I updated it.It all started when I got a notification to update to windows 8.1. It was all good until the next day when I started it up and it would not pick up any Internet connection even though I knew my router was working as I could get an Internet connection on my mobile. I went to the network and sharing center and it said there that it was disabled so I right clicked on it to enable it. After I clicked it, my laptop went to a blue screen and came up with the following message something like this: we've encountered a problem, we're gathering some error info and we will restart your device. So, it restarted and I tried to re enable the network again and the same thing happened. After about 5 tries the restart thing kept happening. I didn't know what to do so I thought to just restore the laptop. I did that and now it's just in this continuous blue screen restart loop. I can't even get to the log in Window, it just keeps going to the blue Window and then restarting. This is a new laptop, not even 6 months old and it was fine until I was told to update. I'm thinking of just taking it into the repair Centre as I have warranty and I feel as if I can't fix this problem myself as I can't even get into my actual desktop.

My issue on my friend's Windows 7 Home Premium, is that he at one point probably somehow made safemode booting as default (I think it's prob virus and other stuff honestly). Well to solve this issue we tried factory reseting the laptop (The laptop is Dell Insprion 14) to when it first came out, hoping to rid of the excess files, virus, and to end the safemode issue (oh yea, when we boot the computer up it starts to make a window of black and white letters saying "Loading Window files" which it's loading system, x32, drivers, then it ends the window and then says it's loading the 4 processors (multiprocessor kernel), then says smh like booting safemode- minimal services. But when we restored the computer to when it first came out it worked, then restarted the computer, but when it restarted it still booted in safemode the exact same way like before also. After doing that it leads to smh like, "seting up for first use" and pops up a little window with tons of files being loaded or deleted (not sure) afterwards, it says setup will continue after restart, which it does and when it restarts it repeats the safemode and setup thing again, so to solve it I tried to do startup repair, which failed, and then saw that I can use command prompt, but now I have no idea what to do, plz help...

Sorry in advance if I'm in the wrong section, or this has already been posted. I'm new and couldn't find any answers elsewhere.

I just factory reset my Asus laptop. It was taking a long time so I went to sleep and let it do its thing overnight. In the morning, I went and turned the computer. It gave me the usual 3 options (Shut down, start windows, or start some recovery thing). I chose to start windows. After that, the computer booted to the Asus logo screen, and after a few seconds, the computer seemed to shut down and go black. Then the Asus logo came back up, stayed for a few seconds, and then the computer went down again. It was running like that for about 5 minutes when I hard rebooted the computer. No difference. Any info or help would be appreciated.

Specs:
Asus S56CM-DH51-CA

Intel core i5-3317u

6GB DDR3 RAM

Nvidia 635M 2GB VRAM

Samsung 850 EVO series 120 GB SSD (I swapped out the stock HDD and smaller SSD)

Running x64 bit Windows 10 Home

My HP x360 Convertible has begun doing random crashes under light load. I tried doind a factory reset on it, and the reset failed. The laptop starts booting up, and then gives an error message "The instruction at 0xd852c3ac referenced memory at 0xffffffff. The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate the program." Clicking OK makes the laptop boot, and give a similar error message. The instruction number changes, the address stays the same. With Esc i get access to the startup menu, with options for system information, system diagnostics, boot device options, BIOS setup and system recovery. The system recovery says that "Your pc needs to be repaired. A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed. Error code 0x000000f. You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer." Then there are options to try again (does nothing), press F8 for startup settings (does nothing), and press Esc for UEFI Firmware Settings. With those I have no idea what to do. Is there anything I can do? There's no installation media for this laptop, and no optical drive either.

Need help with a strange problem, with which I do not see a normal way to fix, after a successful recovery from the factory backup, after using Onekey Recovery. Not so long ago Yoga stop boot in the operating system (Windows 8) and there was only one way, use OneKey Recovery to restore everything back.  After the successful restoration from hidden factory partition, Lenovo Yoga refuse to boot into OS and constantly booting into OneKey Recovery, without using OneKey button. When you push Power button Lenovo logo pop on screen, than loading bar appear on bottom and after it load OneKey Recovery screen. I try use options from OneKey screen, like Boot Option, it bring nothings there , just empty blue screen. It going in loop no matter what option I try use..  Still same OneKey screen on start, what asking me to Reset or use Backup image. I did factory reset several times already, with successful confirmation, no fix done yet..  Is there a known problem or way to stop boot OneKey Recovery in loop? All BIOS setting in factory default, and searching on WEB bring nothings useful. There a lot similar problems with some type of variation but recommendations seems not apply on my situation. I getting sick of that.. and absolutely no idea what can be done else. Please, I need direct response from Lenovo tech support or someone who has same and was able to fix. This is Lenovo Yoga 2 11, model name: 20332. Made in 2014.

Hi, No, factory reset will bring your machine back to facory status (the time opening the box) byt hard reset won't. Regards.

I reset the bios in the bios setup, and after reboot I can't accept the screen that asks if if it can reset the fingerprint scanner (F1 to accept of F2 to deny). I have tried to reboot and also get back into the bios but all options lead to that particular reset fingerprint question

I own a Samsung notebook 5 and the default OS is Windows 8 but I upgraded to 10 and after a year it was slowing down and I decided to factory reset it to speed it up and I let it do its thing and I saw it was on a black screen with the Windows logo with text saying: Factory Settings Installing, something among those lines and I check on it later and it was on a same screen but this time it read Installing Windows but it has an error message which read couldn't install Windows and after closing the message it reboots the laptop and it enters in a loop of trying to install and failing. I don't have any bootable OS around and won't be able to get any sadly but I have been able to boot up the BIOS but I didn't touch it as I didn't want to mess anything up. I haven't had access to my computer in a month. I need help because I won't be able to afford a new one or get it checked because of personal issues.
Please help me and thank you.

So the other day I did a factory reset on my pacard bell pc, I did some updates and restarted. But then it started a oobe(out-of-the-box), and it didn't get past installing office 2010, so I presses ALT+F4 and came on the desktop, but a box popped up asking me to restart my pc with running oobe or something else. I picked the other thing and if I restart my pc now it gets stuck on "setup starting services" and a little box appears saying: the configuration couldn't been made and it's asking me to restart my pc, but it doesn't change anything. Any help is appreciated

Hi , I'm using windows 8.1 on ASUS N series laptop 64 bit, my windows got problem and after i updated to windows 10 and try to factory reset it, it got to 99% and say that the window has a problem, it cannot reset my windows and stuck in restart loops.

I've spam F9 and try to reset the pc again, but the problem still persist and i even try to solve it with the advanced options ( startup repair, system restore, system image recovery setting - all end up with this pc require administration account, and somehow my account is lost due to reset earlier) i even try to reinstall windows with CD but it doesnt detected.

It seems like i lost both my windows 8 and windows 10 on the laptop.

Can anyone please help me. Tq

A:Windows 8.1 & windows 10 : fail to factory reset and stuck in restart

Since you did upgrade and activate (did it activate okay?) then you should be able to clean install Windows 10 and have it activate.
See here: Windows 10 - Clean Install
