Preferred Solution: Touchpad has completely stopped working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

One day my TouchPad stopped responding completely. I uninstalled the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad driver under Device Manager. After I restarted my computer, my TouchPad was working again with the older Microsoft TouchPad drivers that  were still there. I lost all the gesture functionality , and the TouchPad was sensitive and lagged significantly. Eventually Windows automatically updated to the latest Synapatics 19.0.12.98 and the TouchPad was working until I closed my laptop and tried opening it again. Has anyone had a similiar issue? My computer is still under warranty. Should the hardware be replaced?

I am happy to help you resolve this issue. First, please perform a hard reset. Once that is complete, please follow the steps in this document: HP Notebook PCs - Using the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 10) After you have completed the troubleshooting in that document, try testing for hardware failures. HP Notebook PCs - Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 10, 8) If the document did not help you resolve the issue, try restoring the BIOS and then check for windows updates. For more specific information please provide your product model using this link "Find my Product". Thank you, I look forward to your response with the outcome. If this post has helped you, feel free to click the thumbs up!

I'm not even sure if this is the right place to post this but if I hadn't shaved my head, I would have been ripping my hair out by now.

I used a "mass storage device" for my SD card to put pictures from my camera onto my PC. This always worked fine until that one fateful day... I plugged it in and a bobble came up saying it exceeded the limit the device. Didnt know what this meant since I honly had a few pictures on the card. I removed it, and put it in again, this time it sorta freaked and the bubble popped up twice, I tried removing it again, but it wasnt responding and eventually froze my computer, so I pulled out the device and rebooted.
Upon restart i noticed that the device wasn't being read at all when i plugged in...
so I went to check the device manager...but the mouse wasn't working, or keyboard, or anything else i tried to plug into the USB ports.

device manager says "device is working properly" for all 5 ports, but no device ever gets read when i plug it in. no light on the device comes on, no bubble, no nothing.

I deleted the USB root hubs and restarted, they reinstalled, but no devices work.
I went into power management and made sure that "allow my computer to shut this device off to save power" was OFF... still no luck.

I ran some Belarc Advisor on my computer and it recognized all the USB ports.

I don't know what else to do
..can anyone help??

A:USB ports stopped working completely

Sounds like you may have overloaded the USB port and it is now toast.

If you have a Dell; http://support.dell.com/support/dow...seid=r89758&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=117117

Otherwise, time to buy a USB PCI card.

Alright please hear me out, I cannot connect to the Internet on my pc, and It is bugging me out. I have checked everything, and here is what the problem is.

(i am using a desktop) my local area connection icon in my manage connections is gone. My adapters were uninstalled and reinstalled, didn't fix. And another thing, task manager in my network tab, says local area connection is disconnected. And also, I did ipconfig all, and it said "local area connection 1 : media disconnected: and said that until up to local area connection 15???

So I try windows diagnostics. It says "plug a cable in the network adapter local area connection."
Odd part is, I Have been using wireless for 5 years, and it just stopped. So what cable has to be plugged in??? I'm lost! Please I have been trying to fix this for 8 days!!!!!

Please reply I will praise whoever can help me!!!!!!

Hello, if someone could help me solve this problem it would be fantastic.

About three weeks ago, my laptop froze so I switched it off and on. When it started back up, the audio was gone without a trace. Spotify tells me "There is a problem with my sound card". This has happened once or twice before a while back, but was always solved by just restarting my computer. This time that doesn't work. Realtek High Definition Audio is what I have, and my soundcard is built-in. Since this happened I've had so sound what so ever, and I've been using my phone for sound which is very inconvieniant. I need my sound back on my laptop for my studies.

I have tried almost everything I can think of. I have read many questions online from people who seem to be having the same problem as me, or a very similar problem, but all of their solutions which seem to work do not work for me.

I have tried doing a system restore, which failed. I have a HP laptop, and I even called both the Microsoft and HP helplines for assistance but to no avail. They didn't seem to know what the issue was, and said they would call me back but never did.

I'm not too tech savvy, so I don't know much about these kind of things but I have tried updating all the drivers, however Windows tells me that they are all up to date and working properly. However, sound isn't on anything, even YouTube videos which crash after a couple of seconds of playing.

I have tried restarting Windows Audio, which hasn... Read more

I'd try running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If any problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

Hey, my problems started a long time ago, actually, but always seemed to go away in a while, making me forget about them. Now they're ALL back with a vengeance.

1) A while ago, 2 weeks after I upgraded my drivers to 257.21, I started having some serious issues, like my computer would randomly freeze up, to the point where even keyboard inputs and mouse inputs wouldn't work. And what led me to believe it was a graphics issue, was that the screen would flicker, just ONCE really quickly, and then it'd be frozen. It happened usually only when starting a program like VLC or Mozilla Firefox. The computer would freeze completely, sometimes responding for a second before freezing and flickering again, and hence would be completely unusable. I finally got rid of the issue, by rolling back to the previous version of drivers, which miraculously worked.
2) I then upgraded, much later, to 258.96 . Things were fine, I guess, but then a week or so ago, I got a BSOD, that said the problem was with my nv4_disp.dll driver file. I looked it up, and it seemed to be a driver related issue, which could be resolved by re-installing the drivers. But doing so didn't help at all. So I upgraded to 260.89, and it gave me the same BSOD, AND another one, this time caused by nv4_mini.sys . I started considering that maybe it wasn't the drivers that were the problem, but my card...

Now, when I use my alternate card, an nVidia GeForce 7200 GS, everything works fine. When I try to u... Read more

A few months ago, after returning from a trip, I connected my Think Pad X1 Carbon to the docking station and my external monitor was not recognized. After some experimentation, I determined that the video ports were not working. I then connected the monitor directly to the laptop using a HDMI cable and all was well.Today, I noticed that my ethernet connection was not working. Again, after some trial and error I determined that it was not the cable, not the router, but again that the ethernet port on the docking station was not recognized. Shortly after that I noticed that my USB drives were not longer mounted and the laptop was no longer charging. I tested to be sure that the laptop charging port was operating correctly (it was). In short, the entire docking station has stopped working.I have updated drivers, updated firmware, restarted multiple times, tried just about every solution I can find online. Before I order a new docking station, is there anything else I can do to verify that the problem is in fact a failed docking station?

Hello My Lenovo y50 keyboard has completely stopped working. Every single key will not respond. The only thing that works is the back light. No fluids have been split on the keyboard recently!(6 months ago a bit of water but it was ok). A few things I have tried 1) plugging in a external keyboard - it works2) reinstalling the keyboard drivers - no3) Using a live version of Ubuntu - no So any guesses what could be wrong? Loose cable? Hardware failure? But most important how do I fix this? thanks in advance!

A:Lenovo y50 keyboard has completely stopped working

Hi fobstaa ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

I am also expecting that the keyboard fails to respond in the BIOS too. If cleanup and checking for corroded contacts still have the same issue then replacement of the internal keyboard should be considered.

It is probable that the issue is hardware in nature since using different OS shows the same failure but using external keyboard is ok. This can be verified if persistent in the BIOS since it works on basic I/O firmware interface only.

Here is the guideline on looking for part number specific to your machine. The support site have documentation tab for the hardware manual as reference to replacement steps.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Windows Movie Maker, which came with MS Vista, simply stopped working one day. I tried to open it and I get a pop up that says "Unspecified Error." I know that is not much to go on. I don't think I did anything to prompt this such as do an update or install new hardware.

In an attempt to fix the problem, I did an MS update. It didn't help.

My computer is an HP Pavilion Slimline. My processor is an AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ (2 CPUs), ~2.5GHz. I have 2G of RAM.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ok guys this problem happened last march/april ish and I tried a number of things at the time to fix the issue but with no luck. I just got done working out of state for the summer and did not have my pc with me so I'm trying to have another go at fixing the problem. Summary of the issue- no problems ever with sound until one day it just stopped working. Both headphones and speakers wouldn't work even if they were plugged in. I wasn't getting any "no audio devices detected" kinds of errors or anything like that. So I tried reinstalling the realtek HD audio drivers (i was just using onboard sound at the time) and no luck. I also tried doing a few system restores to before the issue and that didn't do anything either. Finally I bought a pci-e sound card, a sounblaster cause thats all the local best buy had, installed that and still no luck with either speakers or headphones. Today I tried removing the sound card and using on board audio and still no luck. Audio device manager will recognize that I plug in my headphones into either the front speaker jack or the one on the back but just doesn't produce sound. I even opened up the pc and looked at the connections on the mobo to make sure the ones for audio hadn't come lose and that doesn't seem to be the issue either. Please any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance

A:sound stopped working completely, headphones and speakers

Post a screenshot of the Device Manager, Sound section, for starters. I'll try to help you.

Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Seven Forums

When you had the SoundBlaster installed, you need to disable the integrated (Realtek) audio so there are no conflicts. Also, you would need to disconnect the front panel headset/mic connection to the motherboard and connect it to the SoundBlaster to have the front panel jacks work. The SoundBlaster would have needed to be set as the default playback device, instead of Realtek if it was still enabled.

My touchpad on ideapad Y700 15-ISK just stopped working. I did a little research in drivers and i found, that there is no driver for touchpad installed. I tried to download new drivers from lenovo site and I used an older driver from C:\Drivers\Touchpad, there is InstNT.exe, which made a driver shows up in device manager, but prompt me to restart the laptop. When I did, the driver got lost again and I had to make the InstNT.exe "instalation" again. Then I tried to update it with a setup.exe in the same synaptics folder and after it, the driver got itself a name for synaptics. So I said to myself, ok after restart now, it will be fine. But it wasn't. Again, the driver is gone.I'm attaching a screenshot for you to see driver being installed, but after restart, it vanished and isn't even showing in unrecognized drivers. In addition, my windows defender warned me about some threats, but I guess it got rid of them, because there were none to be found by me. Just wanted to say it, maybe it could affect my problem.

Hey everyone this is my first post here,
I'm hoping to get some guidance to resolve and issue I've been having with a laptop I am trying to refurbish. It's a HP Pavillon TX1000 I got from a friend. I put in a new Western Digital scorpio Blue HD and installed Vista Home.
Everything seemed fine but after installing drivers from the HP site and antivirus and malwarebytes, the touchpad stopped working. It had been fine beforehand. I had to plug in a USB mouse which works fine.
So far I've tried these things:
In control panel looking at the mouse settings the Synaptics Touchpad is greyed out and I can't enable or disable it. I can only remove the usb keyboard driver.
I system restored but it hasn't helped.
I download the Synaptics Touchpad driver again and reinstalled it, but it didn't make any difference.
There is a button above the touchpad which is supposed to enable and disable the pad but pressing it makes no difference, the blue light shows it's enabled but it's not.
I am trying a windows reinstall but even during that I am having to use the usb mouse.
Any ideas what I can try next???
The laptop specs are: The laptop specs are: AMD Turion 64 x2 Mobile Technology TL-58 1.90 GHZ
1GB DDR2 RAM
HDD: Western Digital Scorpio Blue 120GB. 5400RPM.
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

* I did a hard reboot, unplugging and removing the battery while it was running and restarting but that did not affect my issue.

* I tried that Fn + F9 and Fn + F7 but that had no effect.

* I scanned with AVG but no virus was found.

* I scanned with Malwarebytes but no virus was found.

* I ran sfc /scannow but no missing or corrupt system files were found.

* I am using a usb mouse.  I located the usb mouse in device manager but the touchpad was not there.  I found the touchpad by clicking "show hidden devices".  The touchpad has a yellow error notice on it.

* Windows could not find a better driver.

* I uninstalled the touchpad and rebooted and windows reinstalled it but it is still hidden in device manager, still has the same error notice and does not respond.

Please help!!!!!!

Thanks.

A:Touchpad stopped working. Any help appreciated.

Does Dell have a separate driver listed at its support site...for the touchpad?

If so, did you download such and install it?

Do you have your Drivers CD for that system?

My touchpad seemed to work when I first started my laptop, but then it stopped as soon as programs started loading. I installed a driver from HP's website, and that didn't fix anything, even after I restarted my laptop. Any advice?

I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and have not been able to get the scrolling feature on my touchpad working again. The device is listed as Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad. I have already downloaded the latest drivers and software, I have tried deleting drivers, and reinstalling drivers. Nothing seems to work.

Is there a way we can change the touchpad Reverse scrolling option (Scroll --> Two Finger Scrolling --> Switch Direction) on the X1 Carbon through an automated way. We see that after Windows 10 upgrade, the scroll option on the touchpad has been changed. So doing it manually it works but we want to automate it either through a registry change or some other method. Yes manual changes works perfectly.

Hello, recently the clicking of my touchpad stopped working . In the beginning, right-clicking was very difficult, now it is also left-clicking and the warranty has expired, which is very annoying. So it is possible to use the mouse and also touch/tip and multitouch, but not the clicking function. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? So I'm looking for DIY instructions or ideas. Or maybe there is such a problem with the Y50. it is not a software problem. all drivers are up to date.best regards
