Solved: HDD detection issue

Q: Solved: HDD detection issue

I'm having problem finding the new HDD (additional one) in 'My Computer'. I connected an additional HDD into CPU and started my PC. After startup, it detected the new hard drive and installed (auto) and said 'Successfully installed' (in balloons). But now I don't see any icon for the new installed hard drive in 'my computer'. Then I shut down the pc, disconnected, then reconnected... did allover again. But the problem remains!

What might have gone wrong? Where's the problem! Please help me guys

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am trying to install a raptor x 150 in my computer. The motherboard picked it up, and windows picks it up. however Acronis does not and neither does the windows installation. I would like to clone the drive if that is possible but first the drive needs to be recognized.
I have formatted it in windows 7 64 as an active partition NTFS. Any help is greatly appreciated

I recently bought a new DVD RW drive to replace my old one which had a burnt out laser. When I put in the drives I set up my secondary hard drive and my new drive as cable select and attached the master connector to the hard drive and the slave connector to the DVD. I booted the system and immediately got a boot error saying it couldn't locate either of the IDE drives. So, I spent the next hour or so trying every possible jumper combination setting and got the error no matter what upon boot. Finally I put them both back to CS and just skipped past the error because I was sick of messing with it. To my surprise, the drives showed up in My Computer and functioned but at a very very slow speed. I ran a PC Pitstop scan and it showed a drive speed of 2mb/sec which is really slow. So, clearly something isn't being detected properly. For some reason also, my BIOS doesn't have any "auto-detect" option to try to detect attached drives so in the BIOS it just has two unknown devices attached to the primary and slave IDE drives.

Any help would be much appreciated.... thanks !

Hi, first post here for me.. After successfully installing the latest version of Java (6.0.260) and then running the detection tool, it keeps telling me it does not detect Java on my computer. I've tried rebooting after install, uninstalling and reinstalling, using the offline version and every troubleshooting tip listed after the non-detection message. I'm using IE10 with the 32-bit browser. Java used to run fine until lately. I'd appreciate any suggestions on other solutions. Everything I've tried has failed. Thanks!

Hello NFSRacer,

Unfortunately I have yet the need to use Safe Mode in Windows 8, so I am going to give you a link that gives instructions on how to...

I would like you to attempt to load Windows in Safe Mode to see if the mouse is recognized at that point.

Also, this is a USB mouse? Have you tried other USB ports?

Long story short, I had a malware infestation on my laptop.  I currently have run the latest versions of the following:
Avast - Full scan
MBAM - Full scan
Trend Micro Anti Threat
Each one of these seemed to find things here and there, but I still have the problem. Combofix and aswMBR will not run due to "A device attached to the system is not functioning" error.
In Safe Mode Combofix will start to run but then I get a BSOD and reboot.  asw will come up but won't scan says "Error loading driver" when it starts then "Scan Error" when you try to run a scan.
I have two particular URL's coming up that Avast is currently blocking:
www.babaloonx.com and www.colboltuz.com plus one URL that is just an IP.
Any help is appreciated!

Hi guys

I've a Macbook Pro with the Win7 build 7000 running on it. Everything works fine except the microphone detection of the Realtek HD adapter. the macbook pro only has 2 jacks. one for the headphones and the other should be the mic/line-in.

By plugging in the mic from my headset, the realtek audio manager just shows me an input device instead of the microphone.
The built-in mic from the macbook works fine, but I prefer using my headset for skype.

Is there any workaround to fix this issue? how can i "tell" the realtek audio manager, that the plugged device is a mic?

I already installed the lates realtek HD drivers (2.18) and tried to assign the mic/line-in manually over the registry (Realtek HD Changing Jack output reassignments ( FIX )), but nothing could solve this problem.

here are some screenshots which are describing the issue. yes it's a german installation :-)

many thanks

Having a small issue with my laptop. i looked all over the internet and alas i came up with nothing whatsoever.
I ordered my laptop off of microsoft website because they had a deal for students, this was about 3 years ago.
The other day i was watching a stream on my laptop and it started making clicking noises and froze my computer, i restarted chrome and everything worked fine again.
then about a week later watching another stream, the clicking noises began again only this time it shut my computer off. so i turned it back on and this error came up(No boot device detected. strike F1 to retry boot Strike F2 to run setup utility or F5 to run onboard system diagnostics.)
So naturally i clicked retry boot a couple million times but to no avail nothing worked.
So i ran my onboard diagnostics. and it came up with hard drive not connected. so i was like okay my hard drives fried. so i connected a different one... same error message
So now ive come here for solutions, ive never in my life resorted to posting online about a situation. but this is just insane. either the connection from my computer to my hard drive is fried, Both my hard drives are fried or something in the softwares messed up.
All im asking for is a solution... Thanks.

A:Hardware/Non Detection issue

The hard drive is indeed toast -- if you post the model number (i.e., Inspiron N5110, 5521, etc.) someone can recommend a replacement drive.
If you did not prepare a set of recovery media when the system was new, you'll also need to contact Dell to purchase that now, as you'll need it to reload the operating system once you replace the faulty drive.

Hello guys.
I have a small issue with a drive being detected from within my PC that works from an external caddie.
For a few years i have had two drives inside my system. C drive and F drive. I recently removed both drives when i went off to India for a few weeks for security reasons. Today i find the F drive is not showing up. It is listed under "Show hidden hardware" in the profiles. I opened up the PC and swapped the ribbon cables around and rebooted. It started to install new hardware and stated it had installed it because i seen the name of the installed hardware (The F drive) yet it was still not listed in "My Computer" alongside the C drive. I then removed it an placed in in an external caddie and booted again. I got the same install message ( I had uninstalled the driver prior just in case) and it installed from the caddie and works.
I can not run it from there because i have two other drives that need to be listed for my Music Studio when it scans for files needed to open past and present work that uses files located on those drives my name. The issue can not be the cables as they both run C drive internally.
I will try again later to install it from inside the PC as my main slave drive but it seems null. The issue may be software based or configuration based. But so far , i am mystified by this issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

To enable movie viewing on 55" LCD TV

This is a pain in the rear for me but it is the only way to get the HDMI audio recognized as a valid option in Audio Playback devices. (Video always works but the audio is says not connected)

To get the HDMI Audio detected, I have to....
First - On my TV I have to select the HDMI channel that is connected to my PC
Second - I have to un-plug and plug-in the HDMI cable. (I can hear the Windows 7 found hardware sound)
Third - Now I can select HDMI as my default audio device (everything works great)
I usually have to repeat this process any time the PC or TV gets shut off. I am worried about wearing out the HDMI port by plugging and un[lugging so often. This can't possibly be the way it is supposed to work.

This is not an intermittant issue - it is a matter of the ATI HDMI detecting the audio connection and is very repeatable and consistant. All drivers ATI and VIA audio are the latest to date as of today.

Maybe it is the Plug&Play component - TV has to be on when turning on the PC or I have to manually force the detection process (as above)

Video = ATI 4550

A:ATI HDMI Detection of Hardware issue

I have read many post on this issue and First of all yes the TV must be on at all times on the HDMI signal if you don't want the signal broken don't turn the tv off use you're power saving feature

Let windows turn the monitor off for you that way simple mouse movement will bring back the screen also you should be able to right click and disable onboard then enable the HDMI sound by right clicking

I might add using power saving feature is the only way to keep from breaking the HDMI connection also i don't advise any heibernation or sleep mode because that will just break the signal the best thing to do is let windows turn the monitor off but do not put your machine in sleep mode or any other power save featurn just treat your tv as a monitor

I find this the only and best way to work the ati cards and yes you keep unplugging and plugging the HDMI cable something is bound to go wrong eventually

Error messages have been popping up for a while now saying how I am low on memory, but until now there have been no serious consequences. Now, I can only watch 1 YouTube video at a time and even then, it will usually crash after about 5 minutes. I can't have more than 1 tab open and in general the laptop is slower. It looks like the computer is only able to use 2GB of the 8GB that it knows is installed for some reason. Should I open it up and try to unplug and re plug the RAM back in? I've used CCleaner to clear anything that might be taking up memory and nothing is working. I've also done a full scan with Malwarebytes and come up with nothing. Any help is appreciated.

I am not sure what MOBO I have, but the laptop model is: Acer Aspire V5-573-9863

In addition to this memory issue, I used to have a problem where the CPU would sit at 60%-80% usage for no reason with no applications running, but that issue seems to have sorted itself out. Thought I might mention it just in case it is related. I just remembered that the CPU usage only jumps and sits when I open the Downloads folder in windows explorer, and I can fix it by restarting the Windows Explorer process, but if anyone has any tips on how to deal with that as well, I would appreciate it.

Good day,

I have an unusual situation with my HDMI and would like some advice or ideas.

I have 2 TVs with HDMI input, both LG (I believe 32LH20R and 22LH20R).

When I connect my hdmi to 22lh20r, the sound device says "not connected".
When I connect to 32lh20r, everything works fine.
If I connect to 22lh20r after connecting to 32lh20r, the sound device is now detected!
But when I reset my computer, the sound from 22lh20r says "not connected" again.

I tested two notebooks on it so far, and could reproduce on both. One with a GeForce 9600M GT and the other with a GeForce GT 540M.

I think that this could be some issue with the TV, but since it work after connecting to the other TV, I was thinking if there is a way to force the detection, or to force the driver from one TV to the other, or something like that.

Thanks in advance.

A:Issue with HDMI sound detection - unusual situation

Additional information:

I tryed to override EDID, with phoenix edid editor and monitor asset manager, but had no success with that. Turns out that they only collect the first 128 bytes from the edid, leaving the CEA extensions out, and this would be where the EDID stores whether the monitor has audio or not. =/

Also, it seems like it's not possible to "force" the playback device to "be detected", or at least I didn't find a way so far.

If anyone could help with EDID overriding, or this way to trick windows into believing HDMI sound is connected, I would appreciate a lot!

I got a problem with the Internet Explorer 11 installation I received through Windows Update. It is on a
Windows 7 x64 SP1 computer.
The installation failed, and Internet Explorer 11 doesn't appear under the Show Installed Updates section of Programs and Features.
Because of that, Windows Update tries to re-run the update, but keeps failing everytime.
My first idea was to download the IE 11 installer for Windows 7 x64 from Download Center and launch it; it fails with the error message "A more recent version of Internet Explorer is already installed".
When launching IE, effectively, the version is 11.0, but if I try to install an update for IE, like an IE 11 language pack or just a security update, it fails saying it doesn't apply to this system.
So basically, the IE installer detection logic says IE 11 is installed, while Windows Update says it is not, as for other updates related to IE 11. I have a tendency to believe Windows Update since it doesn't appear in Show Installed Updates.
I tried removing the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer registry key and its equivalent under SYSWOW64, no result. I also deleted the iexplore.exe file under Program Files\Internet Explorer and Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer, no result. Removing
those files is not easy since you have to take ownership on each of them because of the default permissions that are very tight.
Does someone knows the detection logic of the IE 11 ... Read more

My laptop is T430 of Lenovo. I have two drives installed on my computer, one is SSD (128 G, PLEXTOR), another is HDD (500 G, Samsung). Now I have encountered a serious issue that I could not find the HDD in my Windows 10. Almost two weeks ago, I found my laptop crash frequently. I think there is an extreme incompatibility between the Windows 10 and SSD. I even reinstalled my OS for several times. But it still crashed. Even I opened a simple word file, it does not respond. Two days ago, the issue got even more serious. When I boot my system, I found a problem with "2100: Detection error on HDD0 (Main HDD)". It suggests me to press the "ESC" button to enter into the OS. However, I could not find my HDD on my computer anymore. I have some paramount important data and files in this drive.  Could some friends provide some meaningful suggestions of recovering data and files for me, please?  I'm very anxious. Thank you very much!

I've got a really strange problem, that makes it really difficult to post any diagnostic information about the problem. I've tried running HiJackThis, MalwareBytes anti-malware, Trendnet housecall online scanner, GMER, ad-aware, Spybot S&D, RootRepeal and dds.scr. The results are pretty much the same for all of these programs. The scan/analysis starts, sometimes it gets partway through scanning, and then the application window gets closed. After this happens, in the case of .exe files, the resulting program is rendered useless, in that further attempts to launch it result in a "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." and you also cannot rename, or delete the file.

Trend-net housecall is also pretty interesting, in that it runs inside the browser, and after it was terminated (part way through the scan) iexplore.exe now exhibits the same error in not being able to launch. This not being able to launch persists across reboots also. I then installed firefox.exe on the system, was using it for a brief period, tried trend-net housecall and now it too is showing the error in not being able to launch.

dds.scr is able to be to be re-launched, and it brings up the black command window type screen, but never brings up the notepad windows. It seems unaffected by the termination behaviour, and is able to be re-launched.

I am having difficulty with my ASUS SDRW-08D1S-U external optical drive. My computer is an ASUS UL30A notebook with Windows 7. The strange thing is that it was working initially, but now a few days later, it stopped working for some reason. If I go to My Computer, I can see my harddrives (C and D) listed, but not my optical drive. If I go to Control Panel, and click on Devices and Printers, I see my optical drive listed under Devices as SDRW-08D1S-U, with a small yellow triangle icon with an exclamation point on it. If I double click on it, and then click on the Hardware tab, it states at the bottom – “Device Status: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing.” If I click on the Properties button, it basically says the same thing, with the addition of: (Code 39). I have tried updating the driver, and it states that I have the appropriate and latest driver. I have tried disabling and enabling driver. I have tried right clicking on the icon and Troubleshooting.

Finally, I tried uninstalling the driver. And then when I plugged the drive back in, it states that the “Device driver software was not successfully installed.”

I am using the supplied USB Y cable with both ends plugged in. I have tried it also with only one of the two ends plugged in, and also with regular non-Y configuration USB cables.

I will add that I never installed the original software on the CD that came with the drive. I was about to install it when ... Read more

Is there any setting on my router's control panel - ie, port settings, that I can examine, for indication of intrusion?

Settings that might have been manipulated by an outside party? No one has access from inside my home. That is known.

Any logged events in the event viewer, which might also indicate intrusion?

I ask, because my ebay account, and the associated google gmail account HAVE been compromised.

I have 3 computers connected to a wireless base station. All have been working fine until lately. My computer searches for the wireless network, finds it, it says strength excellent, but doesn't maintain the connection. I see scanning for channels. When it hits the right channel, it connects, but it keeps scanning right past the right channel, and I lose connection.

A:Solved: Wireless Network Detection

I'd suspect that someone has recently installed a new wireless network close to you, and now you have contention.

Some things you can try here.
For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

Not quite sure where to post this, but this seemed an appropriate place...

I was running a game that required all my system resources to run at an acceptable FPS, so I went about the process of stopping extra processes. In doing that, I entered services.msc and stopped services not essential to playing my game (DHCP, DNS, iPod, Themes, etc. (and yes, I know enough to not disable things that are necessary for running my computer correctly; this isn't the first time I've done this, just the first time I've had this problem)).

The problem is... once I restarted my computer, I found my network unreachable. I entered services.msc again, to find that all the appropriate services had started back up. Puzzled, I entered the device manager, to find my Network Adapter tab completely missing. I tried to Add Hardware, to no avail (nothing was auto-detected, and any driver I installed did not work (see below)). I tried manually installing the drivers using the CD that came with the MB, but XP won't let me install the drivers manually (it tells me to do it from the Control Panel). Also, pointing Add Hardware at the CD gives me the same installation options that I get pointing it at my local .dlls, so that doesn't work, either.

I did a little research and found that my lan device is one "VIA VT6103L 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet PHY", which is better known as "VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter". When running Add Hardware, that is one of the options to install... Read more

I ended up on a site that tried to take over my PC. Symantec caught several threats and deleted most of them, while partially deleting 3 others. Things seem ok right now, but I really don't want it to spiral out of control. To prevent any deterioration, I deleted all Temporary Internet Files and ran a full Symantec scan. I'm now running a battery of other scans and cleans including Ad-Aware, Spybot, Windows Anti-spyware, Cleanup, and Registry Mechanic. After that I'll post a HijackThis log here, but in the meantime, are there any other steps I should take to make sure I've completely eliminated the problem? I haven't restarted the machine yet, which is when I'm sure things will go down hill if they are going to.

Had a problem with 1 of our laptops and had to do a complete restore, when it all came back to running I can't get an internet connection. If I go to the wireless connection my network is listed but after inputting keyword phrase it can't connect. If I go to "set up a connection" > "set up a wireless router" Windows does not detect any wireless network hardware.

I know this is going to be quite a lot to read but it'll save anyone who is willing to help, asking some of the questions that would be natural to ask. I wanted to make sure I'd covered everything I'd done so as to minimize me saying 'yes I've tried that' to everybody's natural suggestions. So please please be patient and read this for me. I'm really at a loss right now and quite disheartened.

So I've been tearing my hair out for the 3rd day running with this problem.

A little backstory to help understand what's going on. For a couple of years now I've had my PC connected to my SONY Bravia HD ready LCD TV. A couple of rare instances in the past I've lost the display for unknown reasons but always managed to get it back, oddly, what seemed to work each time is stripping out my pc and leaving just the fans, cpu, psu and motherboard connected, even took out the bios memory disc (you know that little silver coin looking thing?). Dunno why all of that worked it just did.

I left my PC on to download (harmless download and not a windows update) and it was FINE. I went to walk my dog, came back about an hour or less later and found myself staring at a blank black screen on my TV. I moved the mouse, hit the keyboard start menu key, nothing. Checked the connection ends, nothing.

So I had no choice but to hard shutdown and power up again. Nothing.

Eventually, after again stripping out my PC (including BIOS memory) and put... Read more

I'm working on an assignment criteria for event driven programming that requires me to make a written description to explain how an operating system can be viewed as event driven.

As one of the examples I thought I'd describe the underlying process of how XP detects a USB flash drive and makes it available/usable. So far I've got the following worked out.

#1: getting all of the information about that device
#2: its capacity
#3: free space
#4: used space
#5: partition format
#6: manufacturer
#7: USB (Universal Serial Bus) version (1.1 or 2.0)
#8: check for required drivers
#9: assign it a drive letter
#10: check for auto run files (if enabled)
This is just one of the examples I am going to give and have many other points to describe so aren't going to struggle. I just want to give some actual details of at least one process that clearly spells out an event driven process rather than just mention the end results for the user (such as the event driven GUI aspects).

Hi I cant seem to detect my Maxtor 6L040J2 40 GB HDD. In the POST screen it says Prim. Sec. etc.. :none. I just bought a new motherboard and CPU cuz my comp was too slow and i bought a new video card. These are my specs:

P96-(F?btw its red) Neo Express Chipset Based (says supports 4+1 SATA2 devices up to 2 on back of box)
Pentium D 2.66 Dual Core 533 MHz 2x1Mb L2 cache intell EM64T Supports 64-bit computing
430 450? watt? power supply btw it runs
XFX Nvidea GeForce 7600GS 256 Mb DDR2 PCI Express
Kingston 512 meg ram KVR533D2N4/512

From the beginning I just took out my old motherboard without uninstalling n e thing from the comp and attached my graphics card to board w ram + CPU to the comp.
the only other things i connected where the leds power switches etc the molex wires and the IDE cable (btw tried several positions w no result) didnt touch the jumper.. should I?
At one point I fried my floppy cuz i set european voltage and the small holed plug to the floppy wasnt fitted right and 1 of the pins was out so it started smoking - i reversed what i did.

So at the POST screen i get a "none" for all prim sec etc.. all of them. If I get into the bios auto-detect doesnt detect a thing for all the auto-detects. If i let it continue i get to a screen where it says JMicron and the PCIE-to-SATA2/IDE RAID Controller Bios v1.05 w/ the yr etc.. and underneath it in baby blue letters it says the name of my HDD w 40GB at the end of it. I am 'user438' and I have semi-solved my problem myself. I went to the Safer Networking home page and re-downloaded Version 1.52 (and a few other promissing looking downloads). When I opened Spybot, I went to 'Immunize' and re-'Check Again' and it showed my 64000+ detections but '0' were protected. I knew then I was almost home. All I had to do was to 'Immunize' them all again.

I say 'semi-solved' because this is Version 1.52, where I started. I am content with this at this time, but now I have to attempt updating to Version 1.6 again.

I have a Dell 8200 w/ 80 gig Maxtor drive. It works well. I recently acquired a new Samsung SP0411N 40 gig drive.

Both drives work well by themselves.

However, if I connect both drives (Maxtor as primary master and Samsung as primary slave), after a very long time the BIOS detects what seems to be like no drive on primary slave and messed up name for primary master (something like CA82smiley-HP#l0d) as a 49999MB drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For quite some time now, I've had four Removable Disk Drives in My Computer. I can't recall how they got there and for the most part no issue has ever come of them. A while ago (perhaps longer than I should have allowed) my computer began to experience the oddest occurrence.

Basically, it "detects" one of these disk drives, as if I had just installed it, and temporarily freezes my cursor (along with certain programs) while making a two-part generic windows noise. Initially it wasn't too bad, only occurring sporadically. As time went on, however, the condition seemed to worsen and it is now getting to the point where I recieve these little detections every few seconds repeating for several minutes at a time.

I've recently noticed (although it may have been present long before) a "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on my taskbar. Listed in it, as components of a USB Mass Storage Device (location 0, apparently), are the four disk drives. I've tried disabling them and I've tried uninstalling them from the hardware devices menu but each time they are "re-detected." Of course, no such USB device exists. I suspect these are the result of a virtual disk drive program, though I haven't been able to connect them to anything specific.

I'm not entirely sure what information would prove helpful, but since dxdiag logs tend to be the standard, I've included one. If you need anything more, just ask.

Motherboard: Asus P5N- MX motherboard; BIOS update 903
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Processor
OS: Windows XP

I was trying to install a new CPU and in the middle of that process, I found I needed to update the BIOS. Again this took some time to do but once it was updated, I saw this message:

"The system intruded, chassis opened, or tempered before. Please check the system."

I looked up the issue and did a series of things to mend it.

Checked the manual. According to it, there is no switch in the BIOS itself, only a physical set of pins which by default have a jumper cap over them to short the detector. Upon checking my MB, I found this jumper cap was missing, so I ordered a batch and replaced it. Problem continued.

Reset CMOS. I turned the PC off, removed the battery, then moved the jumper cap to clear CMOS according to the manual. Waited about a minute to be safe before returning the cap to its original position and putting the battery back in. Problem persists.

Updated BIOS again. I'd previously had issues updating the BIOS only to learn the file was not being detected was all. Once that was settled, it was updated and this new issue appeared. After calling ASUS, the rep suggested the first two options I mentioned as well as checking for an even more recent update to the BIOS. I had the most recent one, but I re-updated it anyway. Problem persists.

Check jumper caps. I thought maybe the cap was not secure enough for the short to be detected, so I checke... Read more

It sounds like you disabled some services that are required for Windows. You should only disable the items in Windows Startup tab.
Go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs see if there is anything related to this program and uninstall it.
Then I would enable everything back in msconfig. Download and do a Full scan with malwarebytes. If you feel you are infected, please click on the link in my signature Virus/Malware Help and do as many of those steps as you can and skip those you can't and post in that section of the forum for more help.
