Preferred Solution: Unable to hear from the hear external speakers

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This all started when I decided to get a webcam. Then I needed a mic. Well, I have finally figured out to record and playback using the sound recorder. However, we I just talk into the microphone I hear nothing from my speakers. Can't figure it out. I can hear myself on playback on the sounder recorder in all programs but I can't hear myself when I just speak into the microphone. Can anyone help with this one. I'm baffled.

A:Microphone is not working, not mute, can hear people but they cannot hear me any idea

First of all, duplicate-posting is bad, don't do it

On to the problem - have you tried installing the latest drivers for your audio device? You may also want to check the default recording device in Sounds & Audio properties from the Control Panel.

Recently I bought a new microphone because my old one died after 5 years of use (i gave it a proper burial it was a great mic) I Bought a new mic and i plugged it in and now when i speak or if something hits my mic. I hear it threw my speakers. Its really quite annoying. I can record and what not and people hear me over ventrilo so i know it works. But yea if you can supply me with any help on how not to hear myself over my speakers it would ge greatly appreciated

This has probably been posted before but i couldnt find it here so i googled my problem and found lots of random useless info. So i came back and signed up here lol. So before you guys bash me like most forums I am sorry

Don't know what is going on but the sound from my speakers has suddenly diminished . Everything is turned all the way up both on the little volume control slider and the main control with all the different sound sources. Sound was fine until a couple of days ago when I started up my Scrabble game and could barely hear the background music. Other music is slightly louder but still not what it used to be.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L555D notebook with Realtek Audio Sound software and three different times my speakers have picked up sounds being made by someone else mot in my house!

I can hear them flip papers, type, sigh, dial a phone, and type...

I have always been a little paranoid about pc's like covering my web cam with black tape ...now I am really freaked out.

Can Anyone tell me what made that happen....is it someone living near my house ....can anyone hear me that good at their house? I rarely use my microphone and always keep it disabled in the sound properties... do you think that is enough to stop it from sending my sounds to another person?

If any can tell me how this happened I would really appreciate it~!

A:I can hear someone else from my speakers

Some odd things can happen when using audio and other similar equipment. Various configurations can pick up radio frequency transmissions from other sources, taxis, baby-phones, cell-phones, and a lot of other things. This is usually harmless, although it can be annoying. It is quite common.

There have been cases of people picking up video from their neighbour's houses on their TV sets.

The only really sensible way to check what is happening there is to have a technician come along and scan for various frequencies which may be causing the problem. Sometimes whoever polices/controls your local radio frequencies will do something about it if you inform them of the problem.

There is no diagnostic you can use from Windows to check this.

Regards....Mike Connor

Have you opened your playback devices to see if the correct device is still the default? This is odd that it happened during a session and not on a reboot. Please as well check all connections by unplugging and re-inserting all.

I can listen to audio CDs in the cdrom drive if I use headphones in the jack socket on the front of the drive - but I can't hear any sound through the speakers.

The speakers are working because I can hear all other stuff like the windows start up music, error noises etc. I've looked at the cable running from the drive to the mboard and it seems to be installed ok. I've tried turning up all the volume settings on windows cd player and my speakers, and the front of the drive, but no luck!

My PC has onboard sound - AC97 digital audio.

Any help much appreciated! I know it's not a life-threatening problem but it's pretty annoying!

A:talk through mic hear out of speakers

If you're using a USB mic, tough luck you won't be able to do it with vista, maybe with a thirth party program.

If you're using a mic that is connected to your sound card,
go to the same as you are in your screen above

playback -> Speaker / Headphone (or which ever device is enabled) -> advanced -> Levels -> and simply flop your sound card entry to the highest possible (if it's to loud you make it less hard, but that's quite easy to understand)

I'm using a dutch version of Vista so i might get some words wrong.

Hi guys

I have this problem, for quite some time now and i can't for the life of me...fix it.

When ever i'm talking to people on any kinda of voice chat application, like Skype for example they can hear what i hear clearly, and sometimes even better than me. It's not only annoying for them...but annoying for me as well when i have to listen to them complaining about it.

I read that some onboard soundcards have those problems, and they can't be fixed. Don't tell me this is true. I've tried almost everything my intelligence possibly allows me to, please assist a tired old man in his seemingly futile atempt to save his soundcard from replacement.

Thank you

Hello Izgol. Welcome to TSG,

You could try muting Stereo Mix in your sound settings.

For XP:

Click on Start > Control Panel > Sounds & Audio Devices.

Choose the Audio tab then click on Volume under Sound Recording.

Click on Options, put a check next to Stereo Mix and click OK.

Under Stereo Mix click on Mute.

Hopefully this sorts out your issue.

Hi there, I have a problem that has driven me over the edge time and time again in ages past. I have a microphone headset, and when I try to speak, it doesn't pick up my voice at all. The issue just seems to come and go whenever it feels like it. Please help!

What is the make and model# of the headset?
Does the Headset use a USB Connection or does it use mini Pink and Green TRS plugs?
Did you try going to the manufacturers Support/Download drivers site and download the latest Driver?
Do you have an Audio Control Panel in your Taskbar by the clock and the speaker icon? Have you gone to the Audio Control Panel and Configured the Mic and adjusted the Volume?

Hello all,

My windows 7 x64 Pro is up to date, and I use latest SB drivers (XFTI_PCDRV_LB_2_17_0008) for my XFI Titanium Pro Fatality.

Everything works fine except that I hear myself in speakers even if the microphon's "Listen to this device" checkbox is unchecked.

If I check it, I hear double echo in it.

I have no other microphones or webcams connected to my computer, and if I disable this device I don't hear myself anymore in the speakers.

Am I doing something wrong or is it Creative drivers that are not compatible with windows 7 x64 ?

Thank you in advance for your help,
Astronaute

A:Sound Blaster - I hear myself in speakers

I don't think there is any option to mute the microphone. This has been a major complaint for as long as people have been using microphones with PC's. The fact there is no muting of the mic in the playback speakers is the reason most use a headset/mic combo - to minimize the feed back problems.

Hi.

When you plug in your headphones make sure they are not muted. In the bottom right of the screen click on your speakers icon. Worth a shot especially if they work in Ubuntu.

If that is correct then right click on the icon and then click on 'Volume Control Options' and make surethe settings are correct for your headphones.

How are you connecting the monitor? Via a VGA or DVI video cable or via HDMI?

If you are using a typical VGA or DVD connection to the monitor you must also connect an audio cable from the GREEN Speaker output on the PC to the audio input on the monitor.

Information on your system (Fill in the My System Specs) would help us to try and help you. Without it we are just guessing.

Audacity says when I press 'record': 'Error while opening sound device.'

Hey everyone,

I have windows 7 64-bit, and am on an Inspiron 546 MT.

I'm trying to figure out how to use my headphones as a default communication device, and my speakers for everything else.

Headphones: Plantronics Gamercom
Speakers: Logitech VIA High Def Audio? (that's what it says on the sound thing in my control panel)

I already have two audio outputs and both of my devices are plugged in. The problem is, I can't hear them at the same time. When I go to "manage audio devices" in Control Panel, it just shows my headphone options. When I unplug my headphones, it shows the speaker options. I can't seem to find a way to split the sound apart or make one a default communication device (doesn't show both at the same time). Is there 3rd party software I should download?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. (I will frequent this site BTW - not just signing up for one question)

I want to test the microphone levels by simply hearing the sound through the speakers. I have googled and read a dozen things which don't work - I can find no trace of the various settings other people seem to be talking about. Most of the solutions seem to apply to a line in mike but I am using a logiteck usb mike. I am running win7 64 bit.

Well, you can do 2 things actually, both quite simple:
Most easiest, is to open Sound Recorder, record what you speak, then listen it back.
The second one, go to Volume Control, Recording Devices, here select your mic, and at the "Listen" tab you'll find a box with a text near it "Listen to this device", check it, apply then close, you should hear yourself back after this in the speakers and/or the connected output device(s).
