I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've installed the MSDE SQL Server package onto my Windows 2000 Pro system. Visual Studio .NET 2003 (C#) is my development tool of choice and am using the FCL's SQLConnection class to connect to the "Pubs" database:

SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection (@"server=localhost\NetSDK;uid=;pwd=;database=pubs");

When installing the MSDE package I used the following parameters within the Setup.ini:

Unfortunately I keep getting back the error message:
SQL Server does not exist or access denied. I currently have the following Services listed: MSSQL$NETSDK [Started - Automatic], MSSQLServerAdHelper [Stopped - Manual], SQLAgent$NETSDK [Started - Automatic], Distributed Transaction Coordinator [Stopped - Manual]. There is a "SQL Server Service Manager" app in the tasktray however there are no server or services listed in its dropdown boxes.

What am i doing wrong? Is there a clear way to identifying what SQL Server is running and its parameters? I cant seem to find any UI that presents the SQL Server currently running on my machine with properties.

Recently I've discovered that I can no longer connect to a web page (or the ftp server affiliated with it) that I had previously connected to many times. I'm not aware of any changes to my system's configuration. If I attempt to ping either the web address or the ftp address, I get the following message:

"PING: transmit failed, error code 1314"

This computer resides on a corporate network, so I have no control over the McAffee Desktop Firewall, but I doubt that they have added a policy which prohibits connecting to this one particular website/ftp site. Any thoughts?

Hello all,

I just received a Fiery EX12 server.

With 2000 SP4 machines... I can connect to this server and print just fine.

But with Windows XP Pro SP1 machines... I can connect to the server the first time and print fine... But when I restart or shutdown the machine I lose access to the server and not just printing... I cannot even ping the server. The only way I can print/connect to the server again is by disabling and re-enabling the NIC card.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I was wondering if it's possible configure a Windows 2019 IIS v10 hosted Web Server to perform OCSP checking of client certificates that are used to authenticate?

It is my understanding that typically the Responder URL that the Web Server contacts in order to validate the client cert is extracted from the AIA attribute in the client certificate. But is it possible to override/supplement this with an additional Responder?

For instance, what if I set up an OCSP Responder in the same domain as the Web Server and associated its revocation configuration with the SUB CA binded to the IIS Site. Now if client certs come in for authentication  and have an unrelated OCSP Responder
in their AIA, can I somehow tell the Web Server to check also the aforementioned Responder that has been stood up in the domain?

A:OCSP Based Validation for Client Certificates Using Responder Defined by Web Server

Per a reply from Mark B. Cooper at PKI Solutions this is indeed possible. You must edit the following GPO in order to override the default behaviour of the web server which is to only check the Responder URL specified in the client certificates' AIA extension.
Default Domain Policy > Computer Configuration >  Policies > Windows Settings > Security Settings > expand Public Key Policies
Once a custom Responder is specified in the CA / SUB CA's revocation properties the above GPO will allow it to check that custom Responder URL first, then ocsp as defined in the AIA extension and then CRLs
Thanks Mark!
Will post reference links once MS verifies my account.

Thanks to this forum I was able to remove Trojan.Pandex but now I can't validate XP. Microsoft web site has a list of solutions but none have worked.I get the following info from their site after attempting to validate. This copy of Windows did not pass genuine validation because the validation process could not be completed. There are several possible causes:Your system level security settings prevented validation from running. Your user account may not have the correct permissions necessary to run validation. Your system settings have been modified in one of the following ways: Security software may have been installed that inadvertently altered your Windows product ID. The validation controls you used were downloaded from a site other than the Microsoft site. You chose to run the validation controls in an alternate compatibility mode. Option 1: Follow steps in Microsoft Knowledge Base article and run validation againMost customers who receive this error are able to resolve the problem by following the resolution steps found in Microsoft Knowledge Base article # 822798 and then running the validation again. Option 2: Install the latest Windows Genuine Advantage NotificationsIf this error still occurs, we recommend that you log in as an Administrator and install the latest version of Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications. I just tried to run Windows Validation and recieved the following message:

Validation Failure: Product Key Failed Validation

2 years ago, I purchased WinXP Home at a retail outlet and have been using it since then. Unfortunately, I lost the original disk, and have installed XP on my machine from another disk.

But I used my original Product Code when installing it. The code really is mine, and I am looking at it right now.

In another forum, someone told me that all XP disks are the same; that it didn't matter which disk you used to actually install the O/S, that what really mattered was whether the Product Key Code was legitimate or not. In short, there is no connection between the disk that you purchase and the code that comes with it. The disks are "generic" and interchangable, and there would be no problem with using any disk as long as the Product Key Code was legitimate.

Given that, why is my machine failing the Microsoft Validation, and what can be done about it ?

Thanks in advance,

Have used my OS over a year. Suddenly now, when I restart or do a cold boot I sometimes get a quick flash perhaps saying "re-validation required" just before the Welcome screen. I then get the Welcome screen followed by a blank gray screen for 30 seconds or so and finally the OS is running correctly with my background and icons displayed. That pause between Welcome and full running is a mystery and it doesn't happen every time.

Does anyone have an idea? Thank You

Windows is telling me that my copy of windows is not authentic when it is. I have no idea on how to resolve this without paying their rediculous tech support charges.
The only thing I can think of that I can think may contribute to this is that I've had to turn off automatic updates off because of some sort of incompatability with the updates and my hardware meaning if I let them install my computer constantly blue screens. The other is that it is a student "upgrade" disk which upgrades your existing windows operating system to Windows 7 64-bit. It is a completly legit copy of windows so I don't know why it is doing this.

Since we don't have any Groups here, I thought it might be useful to post what little I've learned about the tools available for Win8 Activation/Validation scenarios.

1) MGADIag will run - but is almost irrelevant, as much of the information it checks has moved
2) The tool which is replacing it is built-in to the OS - as LicensingDiag.exe.
It must be run under an Elevated Command Prompt (or Powershell) and requires two parameters
-report <filename>
-log <CAB filename>
Note that it will run with only the -report parameter, and produce the output file - but that it will then ingracfully crash. I hear that there are battles within MS to get it to behave better, or to default on any unentered parameters

3) The output is vastly different to that from MGADiag - and from what I've seen so far, is a lot less informative....
Here's the output from my current VM

I am running windows vista sp1 on my computer, and I recently had an error from Microsoft stating that I need to validate windows.

I tried to validate windows from their website, http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/Default.aspx?displaylang=en, but it states my computer did not pass the genuine testing even though I have a legitimate version of windows that was validated and proven genuine (through Control Panel and Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool)

I have searched through various forums and found that I needed to start up the Software licensing service to validate windows, but I have been unsuccessful in starting the service despite running an Administrator's account.

I think the problem is that I am unable to access my system32 files in order to start the Software licensing service in which I receive an "Access Denied" error message.

Any suggestions?

Hello all, I'm not sure if this is an operating system question or more of a software development question.

Anyway, I have a legacy COM service, a COM server that runs as a windows service, that was written for Windows NT 4.0. I have managed to use the service on both Windows 2000 and Windows XP unchanged. However, I now wish to run the service on a Windows Server 2003 machine and I can't seem to get it to work.

This is what happens:-
1. Install the service and set it to log on using a domain account.
2. Start the service from the services.msc applet.
3. Start the client application and connect to the service.
4. At this stagte the client applicaiton freezes for approximately 60 seconds and then returns with the error message "Server execution failed".

I've also tried using the client whilst the service is stopped. In this case when I connect the service is started but I get the same error.

The development team also provided a standalone application that hosts the exact same COM objects, mainly for debugging purposes. If I use the standalone application everything works fine.

Its all very strange.

Does anyone have any idea what the cause might be? And preferably a solution.

A:DCOM service on Windows Server 2003 - "Server execution failed" when connecting

I found the answer.

The above discussion says that a service must enter a running state before a COM server calls CoRergisterClassObject. So I guess its a development problem.

Not sure why it only manifests on Windows Server 2003 though.

So ive searched the forums here and cannot see anyone who's had this problem yet so here goes.

My problem is whenever Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool is used it hangs my pc. firstly explorer starts to hang window by window until nothing responds not even task manager and i have to hard reset. I first experienced this when i tried to install the new IE7 beta a week ago, whenever it went to validate my copy of windows the pc would hang and i would have to reboot.needless to say i didnt install it, Now whenever auto update decides it needs to contact microsoft it hangs my pc. Now ive turned off auto update to get round this for now but im wondering what on earth could be the problem.. I know 100% i am genuine with XP and i turn off sygate firewall and symantec antivirus 10 and close as many process as i can this still happen. Ive run a scannow /sfc and that didnt come up with any errors. couold anyone point me in the right direction with this.. I am a tech support guy for a company so im pretty up on stuff but this one is new to me, ive searched the internet with not much luck and apart from this my system is 100% condition. all drivers up to date temp folders clean. no spyware.. etc etc I am 99.99% sure its the new validation process thats causing this..

Many thanks

A:Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool Big Problems

This is a stab in the dark, . . try this:

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Windows Genuine Advantage\data . . .

Delete or rename the data folder . . reboot and go to Windows Update and let it download again.

If that somehow was corrupted, it might install again.

Still trying to get this XP pro SP3 to connect to or log into the server, a Windows 2008 jobber. I get the pop up that says unable to access the server, may be a permissions issue. I am administrator on both though and it should not be an issue plus I can ping each machine from the other. The XP machine does not show up in the network on the server though. The server shows up on the XP but then will not allow me to log into it. I changed all user names and pass codes on all the machines to be the same and it cleared up a number of issues except this one. Thank you TechSupport for the help. The network name on the server is Network 2 and on another machine the network is named Network 3. This XP machine used to connect to the server without issues. I'm not a computer noob, but nor am I an expert

I've cleared my cache, cookies, temp internet files etc...I also disabled and enabled my connection. I then went into command prompt ipconfig disable and ipconfig renew'd my connection and powercycled my modem by leaving it off for a few hours.

When I got back on, I could access the site, but only for an hour or so then the nagging problem occurred. I turned off my firewall and still could not access, however, I CAN access with a proxy server...***!

btw...I am a mod at that site and don't believe I'm IP banned...i'm guessing it deals with my firewall if the proxy allows me to access the site.

Here is the situation: I am living at an apartment complex that uses a single connection for the same building (at least). This connection is hooked into a router that reassigns IP addresses for that building. For instance: IP addresses in this building will be something like 172.16.X.X. Everyone has the same external IP address past the router-assigned IP address.

Since I do not have access to the devices, I am unsure how to connect to a home server outside (or for that matter, inside) the network. I have successfully implemented a TeamSpeak server in which both someone inside and outside the network were able to connect, but this does nothing to help me in the current situation.

I would also like to mention that I am hooked up to a home router, which assigns the IP addresses 10.0.0.X.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated

I just built my pc and when I go to the LAN settings in Internet options, the box to use a proxy server keeps getting checked. I believe that connecting to a proxy server causes some of my games to crash or to not work properly but I am not sure if this is the reason.

I have tried many different ways such as unchecking the box, resetting settings to default, checking the automatic detection box, and redownloading the network driver. However, it just keeps conencting to it! It can connect back minutes after I unchecked the box. I uncheck and click ok and check on it 3 minutes later and the proxy server is checked again!!

Is this a malware? ALso, is it possible that connecting to a proxy server could cause some games to not work properly? How do I set it to permanently not connect to a proxy server?

Hi, I?m having a hellish time with Win7 clients and Server 2012 RDS (and PCI!!)
I have disabled TLS 1.0 on the server;
Win10/8.1 connect (I?m guessing these don't even try TLS 1.0)
Win7 RDP is latest (v8), I have tried KB3140245 but really unsure what a ?DWORD Bitmap? is ?!? i first thought 32-bit DWORD but it doesn?t seem to want to take the value given, either 0x00000A00 or 0x00000200 ? so that I think is my first hurdle?
Do I need to run KB3140245/Reg keys on both Win7 and Server 2012? (that was a little unclear)
I don?t want to make too many changes to the Server 2012, as I need to revert back etc. so the client can work etc. (busy company with little offline time)

I've searched the archives and haven't found a solution, so here I go:

Until a few days ago, I was using a print server that was connected via ethernet to my wireless router. Everything worked fine and I had XP computers printing to it as well. Something happened when a print job was not completed (canceled at the printer- HP PSC 1200 series) and now no one is able to print.

I've uninstalled the server and reinstalled it using the installation cd and the wizard. I can "see" the print server in my browser and it indicates the printer is online and ready. I disabled the DHCP setting and entered a static ip address. However, when I try to connect my win7 computer to the printer on the server (via a local printer connecting through the correct port using the IP address) and can't connect the troubleshooter tells me it cannot resolve the problem. Furthermore, when I go the next step I get a message that says the printer cannot be contacted over the network.

I don't know whether this is relevant or not, but when I see what computers and devices are on my network (using the win7 computer), I can see the other computers but no other devices or the print server.

Have I missed something? Thanks in advance!

Is this a shared printer through your print server?
If you UNC to: \\printservername\
can you see the printer there? If so, can you connect to it that way?

canceled or failed job issues usually mean print spooler is frozen up. If you restart print spooler service, that generally will resolve those issues.

You probably have to open ports. Are you using a router?
What game are you trying to play online?

Here is as much background as I can give for the hardware involved. We are a small business and recently purchased a business server running Windows Server 2008 from the home office. The home office is fine as everything is hardwired on an intranet. We are trying to set up our two other locations to this home server. All machines are running Windows 7 x64 OS trying to connect to the Server. I've tried to setup a VPN connection but keep getting error 800 vpn tunneling failed. The home server is connected to the internet through a router.

As I said we are a small company and would like to be able to do this ourselves rather than pay to have it all set up and everything I've come across on the web says this should be a relatively easy setup.

What I've done so far is enabled the remote connectivity roles from the Server Manager on the Server and set the Server up to accept incoming connections. We are able to connect to the server via RDC but not via VPN. Is VPN our only alternative here? I've looked into putting Win 7 Ultimate on all machines to use Direct Access, is that worth it?

Any and all advice/help would be appreciated here and thank you in advance.

I would use VPN endpoint routers/firewalls for any VPN connectivity. Having a server you are using for other tasks as a VPN server is not a good security practice as you must expose the server to the internet.

Things began to be strange two days ago. Our web site was not available and no e-mail from our domain could be received. I can send, however. I use Outlook Express and XP Pro. I also have AVG7. I scanned with adaware and spybot and everything is clean. AVG reports no viruses. Finally, I thought about our domain being cancelled. I looked up records and sure enough our domain registration had expired. After a huge to do (which is another problem in itself), I was able to get it renewed for one year.

Giving it time to propagate (I think that is the proper term?), finally, this morning our web site came up. I was also able to get into web e-mail--that was at home and then when I came to work, we're back to square one.....OUtlook Express errors out trying to receive e-mail and our web site won't come up and I can't get into web mail.

All along, I have been able to go other places on the web. I just called a friend to see if he could bring up our web site and he could not either.

Anyway, whenever OE tries to download mail, a message appears saying:
AVG e-mail scanner
autopop3:connecting to portal.telid.com

Then, shortly thereafter, it gives me an error message which reads:
The server responded with an error. Account: 'Office', Server: 'mail.kitcarsonpaint.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR AVG POP3 Proxy Server: Cannot connect to the mail server!', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800C... Read more

I have a Dlink DP301P+ print server that I'd like to use to network an old (but very good) laser printer. This server was used with this printer in my office some years ago, so the two should work in my home network. However, no matter what I do, I can't see the print server on my network. I've tried to connect to it using internet explorer and I've even fired up an old computer running XP pro and Dlink's PS admin program. The server doesn't show in my router's DHCP client table. I suspect the default subnet mask on the print server was changed. I don't know how to interrogate the print server to determine the proper settings to use so my network will recognize it. The self test on the print server shows good, there is no reset button, and the activity led's show on the server and the router, or on the server and my computer if I connect the two directly. The only connection to the print server is via ethernet cable. I appreciate any help. Thanks.

But you have no memory of what LAN subnet was used at that time?

Any idea to what? The default is, so most likely if it was changed to match the LAN it would be or

If you can remember anything about the IP addresses or subnet mask used it will cut down your search time. And, when/if you get control of it, may I suggest you firmly attach to it a note giving the IP and mask?

im feeling a little despondent right now having failed miserably for the last 2 days trying to get this game to work.. its world of warcraft. ive read loads of posts on other peoples problems about logging in but fortunately i have a different problem.. lucky me!
unfortunately im a poor student which means i cant afford the 180 quid a year connection charge to the blizzard servers.. this points me in the direction of the private ones. i can run the game. i type in the account and password, it says success! then promptly leaves me in a loop trying to log into the server... so ive looked at the server statistics to check the population isnt at max. in some circumstances i think it couldve been, but ive created accounts and tried logging into 8 different consecutive servers at different times of day. all of the them put me into a loop. so im doubting that as a cause.
ive tried switching off my firewall, but the fact that i can log into it and comes up with the correct server name suggests it can read it ok. i can ping it aswell which suggests a connection. i am behind an isp's firewall but as i can ping the site i guess thats ok.
thats about as far as my knowledge goes.. if anyone has any ideas as to what i can do [other than pay every month.. wish i could ] id be very grateful for the assistance.
many thanks

A:Having issues connecting to a server...

for private servers you usually have to install a "patch" or something of the sort. I did private servers with Lineage 2 for a little while and I enjoyed the lack of cost.

Not to be an a hole here but if you vouldn't afford to play the game you really shouldn't have bought it in the first place. You coulda gone with Guild Wars cause there isn't a p2p fee with that. But I have yet to try WoW due to the money so i can't tell you how much better it is.

Check around the private servers website they must have forums or something there they will be more likely to help you. Also they may suck at doign it so you could try another private server as well.
