Q: Opera Browser

Any Opera web browser users out there? When I started my computer this morning, all of the bookmarks/screen shots on the home page were shrunk, maybe 1/2 the usual size. Any ideas why this is and how do get them back to normal size? Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Why do some pages for extensions for the Opera browser not load with Opera, unless I mask it as Firefox? With Firefox, there is no problem. With Opera sending a user-agent as itself, I get a 404 error.

These are 2 pages where that happened:

My system is Windows XP Home plus SP3. I use Sandboxie to open the browser and have Avast AV and PrivateFirewall.

Nic said,

You should try using Opera as its miles better than IE. Once you've tried it you won't go back :=).Click to expand...

I took Nic's advice and downloaded Opera again, and have been usinig it exclusively for about three weeks now. As time goes by, it has started to either crash to the desktop or freeze, and I have to use Task Manager to get out of it. This seems to be getting more frequent, maybe three or four times a day now. I've been using it and it's so much faster than IE and the mouse guestures will be hard to give up, if I go back to IE.

I'm wondering if some of the Opera files have been somehow corrupted and if it would do any good to uninstall and reinstall, or maybe there's some other problem.

Also, is it normal to go to some sites and some, not all, links on a site do not work. I can go to the same site with IE and everything's fine. Everything at this site works great.

A:Using Opera Browser.

The latter first...

Yes, it can happen... The problem is that not all the sites are using proper html/whichever html based language, but rather using "special" MS code... Thus it won't allways work like it should...
I had a problem with ATI's hp a while ago, but that's been fixed...

If you find a site which has the problem, why not send them an email telling them about the problem, or send one to Opera... Most likely the page will be updated, and/or support added to the next version...

Over to your first problem... Which version of Opera are you using? And are there any special sites/ad's that triggers it?

I've had a similar problem with some sites when not using IE (had the problem with both Opera and Netscape)... An email to the site fixed it...

But a re-install can't hurt...

Just remember to make a little backup of your bookmarks, and windows settings (and any other changes you've made to Opera) so you can get it back without any trouble...

My operating system is XP Home, Service Pack 2, I have been using Opera for about 6 months and am generally satisfied with it, however, an annoying problem has cropped up, i.e. whenever I enter a URL or do a search from Yahoo (or Google etc) the first Opera window to come up merely displays: "The document has moved here", (the "here" is in blue and is underlined; there are no quotes, of course) I click on the "here" and it then takes me to the site. This happens, without fail, on every attempt. I have had no success in finding a solution with Opera "Help". It wouldn't be out of the question for the problem to caused in some way by my keyboard clumsiness, (it is a standing joke among my collegues ref me being able to hose up ANY computer, just let me at it) IE appears to work normally, no problems there. I am pretty sure that the solution is just a keystroke or 2, but darned if I can figure it out. (My computer expertise is limited to hunt and peck memo typing and net surfing) Many thanks for any and all help.

Anyone know for sure in which version the 'built-in Google search box' first appeared? Also, is it true some versions of Opera automatically install Google Toolbar?

A:Opera browser...

Hi, the search field in the address bar first came in Opera 5.0, considering Opera is now on version 11.01, this was quite a substantial time ago.

Opera will not automatically install Google Toolbar, the search bar is completely customizable and you are able to completely remove Google search, or any other of the built in searches.

Hello Forum,
Because Firefox uses a lot of cpu and lot of memory, I activated "Time Freeze" to 'on' and installed temporarily Opera browser and checked it for some hours. It really uses less cpu and memory then firefox,
I tried to import all bookmarks from firefox, but I have to import each one by one, is there another way ?

But here is a problem I need help soon - while Opera was open, (time freeze still on) on the screen poped up a big notice that I am using a pirated software and it will stop in 7 days. After a while I restarted the pc, Opera was gone (do not know if I install it at all), then I opened the so called 'pirated' program - it really warned me that in 7 days it will stop, or enter the registration code, and so I did, got a "thank you for registering" notice, opened that program's "about", verified that it is registered.
When I came back to the computer, firefox is open, that warning notice came up again ! I opened that program - checked the "about", the registration was there, the program works nice.
I had never such a warning since installation of this program, I am afraid it is somehow connected with the opera browser, but now opera is no more installed.
Is it possible that the warning page is somewhere in the cache of firefox ?
Need some help please !
Thanks for answers

Hello!

Any Opera users here? I need someone to tell me why to download Opera. It looks really interesting, and sneeky. So why is Opera better than all the other browsers?

FredeGail

A:[Opera] Browser!

Well, i use Opera all the time
i find it to be more of an OS than a browser, or at least a huge bundle of software rather than just a browser.
It can do downloading better than any other browser (especially chrome), it has a built in (outlook style) email client, it has a (admittedly lame, but exists) IRC client, a built in torrent client for all your nice legal torrents and considering it has all this, it is incredibly slick. Sure, it looks a bit bulky, but it makes Chrome look like a piece of paper with scribbles compared to Opera being an encyclopedia
In short, I find it to be extremely powerful, and fast even when just on my decrepit laptop.

I have a new computer with Windows 8 and installed Opera 12.16. Even though I had installed Opera-Link in my old computer, a serious problem has become evident: my Opera incoming mail (both browser-imap, and web through Fastmail) totally disappears after about a week, including 'Trash' and 'Sent'.

My account ('Chat & Mail' > 'Incoming') does not have the option to 'Leave Mail on Server'. I'm attaching that window. But that 'My Account' window was identical in my previous computer, i.e. did not have that option either, and my entire mail (incoming, sent, trash) would stay forever, until I myself deleted it. I really need that.

In my old computer, I had WindowsXP and Opera 12.

I am quite desperate - please help!

Several years ago, there was a java bug that could be used to steal passwords from people logging into websites. Opera has a warning so to warn you that java is trying to read it. IE and Netscape never put a warnign in about it. I would say today that this is remote. (more likely way to steal your password would be a bug to read temporary files on your system or them hacking into the email server)

I don't worry about this.

Let me put it this way, the possibility is there, but I would say it was very remote. You have to accept some risks whenever you hook your system up to a public network like the Internet. I worry more about hackers getting into my system, because that is easier for them to do and steal infor... Read more

Hello,

I downloaded OPERA on to my Toshiba laptop recently and I am trying to get used to it.

I have no problem with Firefox, Safari, and Camino on my Mac and no problem with AOL and Firefox on my PC - the Opera browser give me some confusion though.

My current dilemma concerns this minor inconvenience. When I open a message or an email that has a link in it, I click on that link, read it and after want to return to my original email/message and can't find the way!

After I read the selected link the "back arrows" are faded out and do not work, there is no "X" to get out of the link and return to the original msg, I tried clicking on other spots with no luck.

How do I get back to the original msg/email without closing out the entire web page and starting over? What magic spot am I missing here. Firefox and Aol work fine on this same Toshiba PC.

Thank you

Middle click with your mouse and this opens another window in a tab in the background. Look at the top for the different tabs instead of the taskbar. You can also right click on link and select "open in background page" or with Ctrl+Shift keys pressed, mouse click link. The best feature is the mouse gestures. This feature is activated by pressing, and holding, your secondary mouse button (right by default, unless your computer is set up for a left-handed person) and moving the mouse pointer in a particular direction or pattern.

I downloaded the browser Opera and like its features, but have several problems (I'm using Windows 98):

1) when I installed it, it stopped at about 3% and said that the installation file is corrupt. However, most of it seems to be installed and working, except some files in "Help", which cannot be opened. Nor can I get or send out email.

2) I brought in (manually) all my Netscape bookmarks. I was trying to copy them into WORD (as a backup); to that purpose I exported them - they are now in a .adr file, and I (probably foolishly) gave them the destination "Microsoft". But I can't open the file. The message is "Windows cannot find local", and "this program is needed for opening files of type 'ADR File'. I have to write in the "location of local", but whatever location I type in, it adds a "\local" to it.

Internet Explorer came up because IE is the default browser. You can change Opera to your default browser.

In Opera go to Tools > Preferences > Advanced > Programs.

Tick the checkbox for "Check if Opera is default browser on startup".

Next time you start Opera, answer "Yes" when the dialog asks you if you want Opera to be the default browser on your computer.

Hi folks anyone else trying the new Vivaldi browser?

No extensions yet but I will enquire, it has the familiar Opera style speed dial and I like the way cookies can be deleted, it also lists them separately for you and from here 11 cookies are listed from this site for example, I can delete all or pick which site individually.

Web Of Trust, HTTPS-everywhere would be nice along with a few others, what extensions do you use and why, regardless of which browser you currently favour?

Obviously not wanting to go off topic but there may be some I haven't used and would maybe when I send feedback suggest them also.

I'd sum up after a quick mess with it that it's a bit Spartan at the moment and Firefox is still my preferred browser for speed, stability, looks, extensions available and general ease of use.

Thanks, Ian.

Hello everyone

I'm currently using Firefox, and I truly think that it's currently the best browser available. it's customization with addons makes it tailored to my needs, although it uses a lot of memory and sometimes crashes (not very often though). I've just recently heard about this Opera browser, but after reading on the web I see that it is also uses a lot of memory and has a serious problem of websites incompatibility. A lot of people claim that they cannot browse a lot of websites (some very popular, like Facebook,CNN) with this browser, or that web pages never stop loading. On the other hand, it is reported to be very fast and very secure.

Anybody here using Opera browser? What do you think about it?

TIA

A:Opera - a recommended browser?

I've used both Firefox and Opera for a few years now,.. both are good in their own respective ways.. Firefox has become bloated in recent times and a lot of people report issues with slow loading, crashes and so on.
Opera has the slight edge as far as speed goes but hasn't the ability to have all of those lovely firefox add-ons that we've become addicted to,.. instead it uses Opera widgets which I don't like at all.
Despite the good and bad points of these two browsers, I do use both of them when it suits me. I've recently been playing around with Google Chrome and I must admit that when I first tried it,. I wasn't all that impressed mainly because it's "different".

It has quite a simplistic GUI and an "omnibar" which doubles as both a search bar and an address bar. During the past few weeks, I've swapped between Firefox, Opera and Chrome. I've become quite fluent using Chrome and of course there's nothing like familiarity to improve your relationship with something,.. it becomes second nature when using any aspect of it. It's reached the point where I made a bold step two days ago and made Google Chrome my default browser,. it's so quick and clean that going back to using the other two browsers is like going backwards. Don't get me wrong,.. this isn't a hard sell for Chrome 'cos it sure ain't for everybody but it suits me

I was using this Opera browser for a couple days to test it out, and I've decided that I like Firefox better, so I went to clean Opera off my HDD, well, when I went into the windows version of Add/Remove Programs and tried to uninstall it, it said that it couldn't find "install.log". I did a search through the Opera directory in my windows explorer, and that file isn't anywhere in there, so I'm kinda stuck on what to do. I also have some software called WinXP Manager that I tried to use to uninstall the program, and it told me the same thing. I also tried to use System Mechanic to uninstall it, and yet, the same problem. So I'm kinda stuck here. My question is, if I actually RE-install the software, will another log file be created during the install that will allow me to uninstall it in the long run, or am I just wasting my time.

A:Opera Browser Problem

Yes just go ahead and reinstall it and try again. Also it's possible an entry might remain in Add/Remove programs after the uninstall. This is not necessarily a concern but can be removed from the registry manually, if necessary.

It is found by running regedit and looking under the key:

I have been really struggling lately with browsers. I had been using MS IE for a long time but it was getting harder and harder to browse. It seems like almost half the time I clicked on a link in a news site like www.drudgereport.com or www.thestar.com/

I would get a message that the app had to close and I was given a choice as to whether I wanted to send an error report. Then the app would just close.

This was getting so frustrating that I was considering buying a new machine because it was getting to be that time and I would get a new OS (like Windows 7) included with the purchase.

The problem I was having was due to the fact that I was using a very old version of IE and I couldn't upgrade because my original CD had become damaged and I had been using a copy of my original CD and MS would not recognize it as a legal OS. Through the years I had always paid MS $100 for every new version of Windows - Win 3.1, Win 95, Win 98, Win XP and I was just sick of it. There was no way I was going to shell out another $100 for another piece of crap OS with a browser that was susceptible to attacks and was really a terrible product.

So, I switched to Firefox because people were saying it was the solution to all my problems. But I d/l the most recent version of FF and it kept failing in the same way as IE. I was getting very discouraged.

But then I discovered Opera. I used to use it about three years ago and considered it to be a very mediocre browser. But I tried the current ve... Read more
