Q: my hp pavilion dv5000 has many problems like its not finding a hard disk drive

i have an hp pavilion dv5000 and at first i had a "blue screen" problem so my friend thought reformatting my hard drive will help but no i have no OS and when i try to put one in it says like "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your system" please help i dont know what to do

Preferred Solution: my hp pavilion dv5000 has many problems like its not finding a hard disk drive

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My HP dv5000 Pavilion Notebook is failing to recognize the internal CD-ROM drive. This is a recent problem, the drive was working properly less than a week ago. The device manager shows no option for the drive as well as the system information in the HP help center has the drive listed as not being installed. I have go so far as checking the BIOS (Phoenix edition) for the drive but am unable to locate the option to check if the drive is enabled. I fully understand the risk and danger in entering the BIOS, hence why I am seeking advice from those who are more knowledgeable. I have tried calling the HP support center for assistance; needless to say they were of no help. The individual I spoke to had even less knowledge of computers than I do and even less of how to help solve my problem.

If there is anyone able to help I would greatly appreciate it, thank you.

A:My HP dv5000 Pavilion Notebook is failing to recognize the internal CD-ROM drive.

If Device Manager doesn't even show the drive there is a good chance that it has died. You can look in BIOS. In a Phoenix BIOS where you usually want to look is under Main. You should see your HD and maybe the CD drive. Settings should be on auto. If the CD drive isn't there it probably needs replacing. With a laptop you could take the drive out and put it back in to make sure you have a good connection.

I am using a usb bootable drive to install a fresh copy of Windows 7. I have used hade USB copy of Windows for some time now so I know that it works.
My issue is at the moment is once the install starts and makes it to the screen that ask you which drive you would like to install windows on it cannot locate any drive.
I says something similar to no useable drive or something similar. (I do not have the screen in front of me) The list is empty. You have the options of opening a command prompt, advanced repair options, or load drivers. From what I see I need to
create a new drive but cannot figure out how or if I'm trying to do something I don't need to do.
Any help walking me threw this Please.

I have a hp pavilion DV5000, I had the hard drive crash. I got a new hard drive same manufactuer as the original it is just larger. I can't get the computer to recognize the new hard drive that I just installed. Please Help

A:HP Pavilion DV5000

Go to the website of the hard drive manufacturer, and download their drive setup software. Most drive manufacturers, except Toshiba, have setup software.
Otherwise, you benefit from using a full Windows disc rather than the recovery disk that came with the HP Pavilion... though it is do-able.
OEM drives you buy without the box and setup disk just take a little more experience because it needs a low level format or a manufacturer setup.
The download from the drive manufacturer's web site also comes with instructions on what to do.
Then of course the original hard drive crash may have been some other problem to begin with.

Hi All,

I recently got a 2nd hand Pavilion. All was working fine untill i tried to format and reinstall windows XP. The first time i did it, i managed to delete the partitions and start a format. All of a sudden the laptop just powered down. Now whenever I boot from the windows CD it starts loading and when it gets to the part where "Setup is starting windows" and you press Enter to start the installation, it keeps powering down.

Anyone got any ideas what the cause could be?

So, let's start this by saying I'm not computer illiterate. A few days ago I was having a problem with the fan not rotating properly, and thus not giving as much heat relief as needed, so I took the damn thing apart & reset the fan, cleaned it all out, etc. The fan works fine now, however I think before I was able to fix the fan, something else happened that is out of my control. Here's the problem: Computer works fine for everyday activities ie: internet, aim, word, etc. When I try to watch a movie, or play a game or anything that requires any sort of graphics, the entire computer just shuts off. Now, I'm really not entirely sure as to why it would do this, there's no forewarning, no graphics errors that would indicate the video card is malfunctioning or anything like that, but I thought it might be the video card's battery. I'm gonna replace the battery anyways, because it couldn't hurt, but any other solutions would be greatly appreciated. I'm not ready for this laptop to die =(

A:Hp pavilion dv5000

thus, you something missed when you was cleaning your cooling system. check the heatsink carefully again, and check the air temperature which blow out from laptop. if it hot, then problem is in some other place, if it's not hot, then check again cooling system.

I have a problem. I have a HP Pavilion dv5000 laptop computer which had original windows XP installed. I bought an upgrade to Windows 7 pro on the internet and the program is working fine except that I can not get the laptop monitor to show anything. I attached another monitor to the computer and it shows everything normally. I have tried to change the drivers to get back to the original with no success. The audio would not work in Windows 7 so I downloaded a windows XP audio program and now that works. I want to do the same thing for the monitor/graphics software but can not do it yet. Does anyone have a solution? Source for the drivers? I have tried all of the standard things such as restore etc.

Can we have the full model number? We need to figure out which video chip you have. DV5000 series is very old but it should work in Windows 7. Do you ever see anything on the laptop screen? Even before Windows loads....the HP logo, anything? It's real possible the screen has gone bad.

Ok guys. I own a HP Pavilion DV5000 that I love really much & performs really despite it's age. I mainly use it for surfing the internet & music production, but once I get my music computer back from my brothers I'm going to use this laptop for internet & marketing mainly because I'm gonna keep my main studio computer off of the internet to keep it safe. Over the next few months to a year I'm looking to slowly upgrade my laptop to make it perform better on the internet & with the basic task I'm gonna be using it for. Right now the current specs are: Processor: Intel Core Duo T2300 @ 1.6Ghz/667Mhz FSB,Chipset: Intel i945GM,Southbridge: 82801GHM (ICH7-M/U),Graphics Processor: Mobile Intel 945 Express Chipset Family,Ram: 2GB of DDR2 @ 600Mhz,HDD: 120GB,OS: Windows 7 Unlimited 32-Bit. I'm planning to upgrade the ram to 4GB, replace the 120GB HDD with a 240GB SSD, & I've also been thinking about upgrading the CPU as well.  Is it possible to upgrade to a Intel Core 2 Dou T7200 on my computer or am I limited to a Intel Core Dou T2600 or Intel Core Dou T2700 as my maximum upgrade opition?  What are the possible Socket M CPU's I can upgrade too? Can I upgrade to a Socket M Intel Core 2 Dou or am I stuck with a Intel Core Dou as my upgrade opition? Please no rude or unrelated answers.

I just bought a new HP Pavilion M7-1015dx. I have successfully installed an SSD drive as the primary hard drive and now I want to use the 1tb hard drive that the computer came with as data and install it in the second hard drive bay. I have a cable that I used from my old HP DV7 when I had a second hard drive but I am having issues with my M7-1015dx laptop. When I plug the sata cable into the second connector on the laptop and attach my hard drive (I have tried several hard drives) and go to power the laptop on, the power light just blinks a few times. Now I know there is something wrong for I just purchased the laptop two days ago... I got the idea to try the cable that I used to plug into the second connect to check and see if I plugged it into the first and I got the same issue, power light blinking. So I am wondering if it is the cable... is this possible? Are there different rated sata cables? I also tried the cable the came with my new laptop to make sure that it just wasn't the second port - I tried plugging it in to the second port with a hard drive attached and the laptop this time turned on but asked for a bootable disk because it requires boot disk to be in the 1st hard drive bay connection which I knew. I just want to give all the information so that I can get this fixed. Please help me

Hi everyone!

I own an HP Pavilion dv5000 and it has been giving me some troubles these past weeks. At first it was a problem with it constantly rebooting after having displayed the good old Windows XP loading Black Screen. Today it started to behave strangely again, and I tried to control the situation. Since nothing happened and the OS was completely stopped and the screen had frozen, I rebooted it the old school (the very stupid way: you remove the batteries and the alimentation)

When I tried to put it to work again, there's the black screen with the "HP Invent" thing and then nothing happens afterwards. I ran BIOS and I can't see the name of my HD anywhere, nor can I make the OS work in the "mode without mistakes", nor any option available when I press F5 right after the black screen appears.

Can someone help me? I'd be very thankful, since my situation is a bit desperated.

Oh, and excuse my english, I might have a few mistakes.

Thanks everyone!

your hdd may be broken. if you need information from this hdd, i recommend you to put it in service-centre,which can restore info's from hard drives.
another reason: if you can't boot from DVD drive - the southbridge chip may also been broken. in this case - only the MB repairing or replacing can solve the problem.

This laptop is used every day and worked perfectly until this morning. I attached the power cable and switched it on, but the screen remained blank. All the usual power lights along the top of the keyboard are illuminated, but that is all. The blue charging light along the front edge blinks. When I try to power down by holding the on/off key down, nothing happens. The lights stay on and the computer doesn't switch off. Bizarrely, when I disconnect the power cord, the lights switch off - but only then. I have tried booting up from the DVD drive to no avail. Any assistance would be much appreciated to get my laptop back up and running.

At my home I use suddenlink internet, phone and cable. The modem I have relays my internet and phone service. I know a little about computers so I have done all the basic things to try and fix it. Reset router, update drivers, disable reenable the wireless....I have done all of those things. I have had this problem once before, and the solution is simple...I JUST CANNOT REMEMBER! Please anyone who knows anything I would love advice on how to fix it. Oh when I plug her directly into the internet she runs fine. Hiya,I've been trying to make improvements to an old laptop of mine - A Pavilion DV5203EA with an Intel Celeron M 410 CPU (Bios version F.24).After going through the manual, the forums and gathering info, I tried replacing the Celeron CPU with an Intel T2300 and then an Intell T2600 (which by all accounts are supported and should have worked). But in both cases, the laptop wouldn't get as far as the boot screen - the power would come on when the power button was pressed, all the lights would light up, but that's it, no beeps or anything else. The fan would start once the power came on but turned off after a few seconds and the laptop would stay like that indefinitely.Once I switched back to the Celeron it was back to normal as though nothing had happened. Is there something else that needs to be done besides the BIOS update that might get one of the replacement CPUs to work? I also have a Core 2 Duo 7100 cpu i haven't tried yet - is it even worth the effort given the results with the 2300 and 2600? Thanks in advance!

It sounds like your hard drive is starting to go bad. I suggest you visit the manufactures of your hard drives web site and download their diagnostic tests for your hard drive. You can usually look at the label on the drive itself to see what kind of drive it is.

Have you looked in Disk Management (Right click on My Computer and choose Manage)? Does it show up there, but is not being assigned a drive letter?

If it didn't work in 2 setups, the drive might be dead. If you really need the data you can send it off to a recovery place, but it will be expensive, and not guaranteed.

You may have knocked the video card loose when replacing the HDD.
Make sure it's firmly in the slot.

If the PC has a built-in video chip, then make sure all the cables and memory are firmly plugged in.

When you turn it on, does the PC sound like it's turning on? (fans spinning, beeps, etc.)

I'm having problems creating new partitions on my hdd from unused space I have on my disk. It is a bit long story but I hope somebody reads it and knows how to help me. But short version: accidentally converted disk to dyniamic disk, managed to convert disk back to basic, now there is unused space on my disk which I can't nake a new drive.

I got a new Acer computer (with Windows 7) which had 1 TB hdd. In the hdd there were C- (~500 GB), D (~500 GB)-drives and this "hidden" partition (~13,6 GB) which is somekind of acer back-up partition (at least I've heard so) and this system reserved partition (~100 MB, not sure what this partion is). Atleast I think the disk was partioned this way.

I decided to reduce C-drive with Windows 7 disk managament tool and it said that I could release around 250 GB from that drive which I did. Everything was fine until I tried to make new drive from the released ununsed space and I managed to convert my disk to dynamic disk. Here is a snapshot my system after that. I think conversion to dynamic disk created a small partition (1 MT) in the beginnig of the list (not sure). Disk 1 is just old hdd which is working fine so no concerns in there. E-drive is the one I created and accidentally converted disk to dynamic disk.

Then I studied and found way to convert dynamic disk back to basic disk from here and here without losing any data.

I used ptedit32 (which did the same thing as HxD mentioned in the links). Here is ... Read more

A:[SOLVED] Problems creating a new drive to my hard disk

Welcome to TSF!

A basic disk is limited to 4 partitions, and there are already 4 partitions on that disk:
1 Mt
13.67 Gt
100 Mt
236.47 Gt

The 1 Mt is too small to appear in the graphic display, unless you set it to display all partitions as the same size.
Hard to say where it is on the disk, but I'm guessing it's at the end of the drive. A dynamic Disk uses a 1-8 MB section at the end of the disk to store partition info, and it looks like that table is now being seen as a partition.

You can delete it from the list display at the top, but best to find out where it is first.
Change the View settings so all the partitions are shown as the same size in the Graphic:
View | Settings..., Scaling Tab
In the bottom section, Display disk regions, choose All as the same size

This should now show the drive with 5 equal areas, and you can then delete the small 1 Mt partiton. If it's not adjacent to the unallocated space, post another screen shot of Disk Management after changing the View settings.

If you need to divide the drive into more than 4 areas, make the 4th partition an extended partition rather than a primary partition; you can then create any number of logical drives inside the extended partition.

Note: the 100 Mt System Reserved partition is where the files needed to boot the system are stored, so do not delete that partition, it's needed to be able to boot the PC.

I have a friend of mine that was working on his desktop computer doing some research. I don't have all the details of what he did that day. The next day when he tried to start his computer he got an error message like "Primary Hard Drive disk 0", "Press F1 to retry boot or F2 to run setup" He brought his computer to me to try to fix it. I was not able to repair the drive I try to connect the drive to other computers to no avail. So I concluded it was a faulty hard drive so I decided to buy a new drive, I setup the drive, installed all the software he needed and all is good.

Today I received a called from him telling me he was working on a different computer (laptop) checking emails (gmail) and doing some work stuff.. He shutdown his computer and forgot that he needed to check some other emails. When he tried to start the computer he got the same error message as above.. At this point I'm just think these problems are getting cause by some king of virus/worms or the like.

Has anyone knows or have an idea of what could be the reason? Two different computers having the same problem, coincedence? Don't think so.. right?

Please any help or advise appreciated.

A:Problems: Primary Hard Drive Disk Not Found

My experience when getting that first message...is that the option to go to Setup/BIOS occurs because Windows wants the user to check that the drive is properly recognized in the BIOS. So the first thing to check is all connections to/from the drive.

If the drive is recognized in the BIOS properly...and the boot options in the BIOS are correct...and it still won't boot, then the first suspect for me is the MBR.

If possible, I then run chkdsk /r on the drive from the Recovery Console. Just a prelim step, but one that I never fail to do.

If the disk still won't boot after chkdsk /r, I then go back to the RC and run the fixboot or fixmbr command. I'm partial to fixboot, since it includes fixmbr.

If the drive still cannot boot then I run a manufacturer's diagnostic on it and mentally prepare for a repair install or a clean install.

If the file system (NTFS or FAT32) happens to be screwed up, a clean install is the solution for me.

When computer boots it gives me a boot disk failure and wen I check the bios I find that the biso hasn'f ound the hard disks. Sometimes it finds them sometimes not. Coulld anyone please tell me how the problem can be solved?

Thank you

A:bios isn't finding hard disk

take the motherboard out of the computer with the hard drive power supply and RAM. See if it recreates the issue outside the box. Sounds like bad ground or bad mobo if this really is an intermittent issue.

Can anyone please help me with this?

My problem is that I have just bought a new system running vista after the old one died following a motherboard problem (it refused to boot). I have salvaged the old hard disk which ran XP and it appears to be sound and I have put it in an external enclosure connected to the new computer. I want to retrieve/access old mail folders created in MS Outlook 2003 on the old hard disk but cannot seem to locate them anywhere.

Any suggestions as to how I can get to and open them please?

A:Finding and transferring Outlook Personal Folders from an Old Hard Disk

Your old outlook.pst file should be located here: Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Copy it over to your new PC. In Outlook, do File > Open > Outlook Data File

I just install a new Maxtor 15gig hard drive to use as a slave drive. My BIOS doesn't show that I have a primary slave IDE. I made sure the jumpers were at the settings the installation guide said to use but still it doesn't show up. I called the help line for Maxtor but they didn't seem to know what the problem is. Can anyone help?

Have you confirmed that the jumpers on your first drive are correct? You may need to change it from Single to Master.

Win 7 can't find my new drive.
I dual boot Win 7 and Ubuntu. Both boot okay on my machine but I want to add a new drive to the two existing ones. Currently Win 7 is on a 320 G Seagate and Ubuntu is on a 500 G Seagate. The new drive is a 1 T WD.
My bios recognizes all drives. Belarc Analyzer also finds the drive and even notes the serial number. But my `Computer `can`t see it and ``add new hardware`` can`t find it.

System-Asrock AOD790gx, PhenomII x4 955, 4 G`s mem, 600w Psu.

A:Finding new Hard Drive

Did you try "Devices and Printers" in the Start menu and then " Add a Device".
Also have a look in Disk Management whether it is there. Maybe you have to initialize it and assign a drive letter. For Initialize right click on the left pane of the drive (where it says Disk 0, 1, etc.). To assign a drive letter, right click on the right pane. You may also have to format it (take "quick format" - with full format you are in for 10 hours)

dougieboy wrote:...  HP is: Type HDD... Interface Type SATA 3 GB/s    Spindle speed 7200 rpms  Interface Class Serial ATA   Capacity 120 GB.. [email protected] Welcome to HP Support Forum. The following link shows specs of your computer:      https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00683794 It uses SATA II (or 3GB/s) HDD. Basically you can use any standard SATA II or III 3.5" HDD on the market today. Since machine is still running Windows XP, to be safe (due to old BIOS) please try HDD from 500GB down.  HP uses HDD's from few vendors, please try Seagate, Hitachi, Toshiba from the following list          https://www.centrecom.com.au/internal-desktop-hard-drives (Note: check your region/country, they should stock those drives). Regards.

I hope you can help me in my problem I'm facing.

I really searched for it a lot and I tried ALL possible solutions which I found in most sites talking about this technical problem but still the problem not solved

I have explained the problem fully in the following address:

Thanks in advance,

A:WIN XP Pro is not finding my slave hard drive

this is because you have windows on TWO hard disks at the same time.

SATA drives are ALL master drives. 1 drive per channel.

Your OS is confused as to which drive is which and therefore defaults to channel 1.

The only solution is to format each drive and leave windows OFF one of the hard disks
You may lose data unless you swap out drives and move the data offline (like a zip drive, etc....)

I've installed a Maxtor 20gig HD as a slave to my WD 20 gig boot drive. I used the software I downloaded from Maxtor to partition and format the new drive. The bios Auto-Detect finds the drive, but Windows is not "seeing" it

Any ideas ??

A:Windows is not finding new hard drive

The OS does not see drives--ever; it sees only partitions. I think the problem is in the fact that you used a utility other than Microsoft's FDisk to partition the drive. That, combined with the fact that the drive is a slave, is your problem.

The software you used is probably some kind of drive overlay, intended for use on the Master (bootable) drive. Since the bootable drive is another drive, the overlay never gets activated and, therefore, the new partition isn't seen by the OS.

Drive overlays are to be avoided whenever possible.

Create a Windows Boot disk.
Turn off the computer.
Disconnect the Master drive.
Set the new drive as Master.
Boot from the startup disk.
Type FDISK /MBR and press enter.
Type FDISK /MBR and press enter again.
Type FDISK and press enter.
Now delete any partition that exists.
Create a new partition.
Format the new partition.
Turn off the computer.
Set the new drive back to slave.
Connect the old drive back as master
Turn on the computer.
Your new partition should now be "seen".

Not finding hard drive on start up. Then shut down without prompting during testing

A:Not finding hard drive on start up

Dublove Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about no boot device found and wanted to help. These problems are generally due to one of two basic problems:1) Failed hard drive2) Corrupted/missing boot loader filesAs to the first, please follow the directions in this link for testing your hard drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024If that confirms your drive has failed, then you need to replace it.  Please report back if that is the case.As to the second, you will need access to a working PC for this step in order to create the media needed to repair your PC boot loader.Once you have that, please download and create Win10 install media from this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10Yes ... I know that is for Win10, but it uses the same generation boot loader as Win8x, so it can be used to do boot loader repairs for Win8x as well as for Win10.Boot from the media you created, and follow the directions in this link:  http://www.windowswally.com/how-to-fix-error-code-0xc0000185/You will probably have to run Startup Repair three times for it to fix all the boot loader problems. When done, your PC should boot OK.Good Luck

So I have 4 hard drives and a SSD at the moment, but i'm trying to add 3tb hdd in place of another old smaller drive.

Problem: When I installed windows I had 3 drives plugged in so some how it put the MBR on one hard drive and my windows on another. Now when I unplug one hard drive to add my new one my computer says there are no bootable devices. Is there a way to maybe move it to my ssd with my new windows on it? or Make a new one?

A:Finding the MBR and moving it to another hard drive to add new hhd

I think the easiest way to solve your issue is to use your Windows DVD to repair the SSD drive. If you want that to be the booable system drive, unplug all other hard drives and then repair the SSD.
