Preferred Solution: Trackpad not working on Dell 1525 after changing the keys

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Trackpad not working on Dell 1525 after changing the keys

Are you refering to the tab (that swings up to release) on the connector the ribbon sits in?

If so, the tab needs to be up in order for the ribbon cable to be inserted fully, and its then pushed down so its flush with the ribbon.

I've also renamed the title of your thread to something more suitable, as this will help you get better assistance from others.

I am trying to fix a Dell Inspiron 1525 that has a keyboard not working. Most keys work, but some do not work. I ordered another keyboard on ebay, but exactly the same keys would not work. What exactly would be the cause of this and is there any fix. Thanks for any suggestions.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525. Yes, I know it is a very old model but it has served me just fine over the last few years until very recently when some of the keys are failing. There was a loud, almost constant buzzing sound in my laptop every time I worked on it so I took it to the repair shop where the engineer told me it is a problem with the fan. So he removed the keyboard to open and check the make of the fan and said a replacement fan will need to be ordered. While I am waiting for that to be done, he put the keyboard back in its place but some keys on it are not working. I came across the following posted here more than 3 years ago by the user HYLBJTO. I am reproducing it below because the problem I am facing with the keyboard is exactly the same as described by this user and the suggestion given to him by someone to fix the problem did not work from what I understand.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525. I have it connected to a samsung lcd tv through the hdmi port to watch movies. Yesterday I connected the hdmi lead but the tv didn't detect a signal. So I tried a system reboot. The screen on the laptop lights up as in you can see the back light working but thats the limit to it. The laptop sounds like it is loading fine. dvd drive running hard drive working lights flashing etc. Anyone with any clues as to what the problem could be, and a possible solution would be very much appreciated.

A:Dell inspiron 1525 screen not working HELP!!

Tony, so the problem is your laptop is turned on, but the laptop screen isn't displaying an image?

Disconnect the HDMI cable, first. Look across your top row of keys on the keyboard. Tap the key with an icon on it that looks like a computer screen, then wait a second and see if your screen lights up It may be the F8 key, not sure. On some models you have to hold down the Fn key while you tap the F8 key. That toggles your LCD screen on and off.

I was reading an expired thread about issues with certain keys not working on a Dell Inspiron 1525.

I have experienced what seems like the same problem: Certain keys do not work - but not the same ones as those in the older thread (w,d,etc for me). I replaced the keyboard with another working keyboard ( I have two Dell 1525's). The same keys do not work - with either keyboard attached. But here's the strange part: If I do not screw down the keyboard and hold it up slightly, the problem disappears. I thought it might have something to do with pressure on the keyboard, but I could not duplicate the problem by applying pressure to the back of the keyboard. However, if it is screwed down tight to the plate it sits on, those same keys do not work. I tried putting pieces of paper between the keyboard and the plate it sits on, and got mixed results. SO, I'm thinking this could be some kind of electromagnetic interference???? Anyone have any thoughts here? The problem absolutely goes away if I hold the keyboard even 1/4th of an inch above the plate it sits on.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop with Windows Vista Basic.  Today after plugging in a headphone set both the speaker and the headphone sound stopped working.  I have not changed any audio settings but checked them anyway and nothing was turned off or muted that I could see.  I have tried downloading and re-installing the audio drivers from the Dell support site but when I go to install them I get an error message saying that 'This is not the correct audio driver for this system. The installer will now exit.'
Any suggestions to get the sound working again?

Try using System Restore. Try running the Dell Diagnostics audio tests to rule out hardware failure. See the "No Audio" FAQ for details.

My warranty has no run out so dell can't actually help me. I wondered if anyone had a similar problem and what they did? Whenever I try to use the camera the blue light comes on as if to say that it is working but the picture is just black. When I click to take a picture regardless a box pops up that says "Unable to capture a photo. Inspiron 1525 Integrated WebCam not working in Windows 7 64-bit.  I have tried reloading drivers and software. Uninstalled and re-installed multiple times. Making sure that WIA is turned on in services. Tried compatibility mode. Downloaded various driver versions from Creative's website and from Dell. Re-installed the A16 bios upgrade (as suggested by Dell). I used msconfig to make sure that no other applications were started or running. Uninstalled Live Messenger. Device Manager recognizes the camera and says that it is working properly. Despite all of that I still get the message "Camera is not available. Please make sure it is not in use by another program" when using the Dell Web Cam application or Live Messenger. When trying to acquire image with ArcSoft or HP Photo suite I get "Camera is unavailable" as well.  Even in Safemode with all drivers disabled I get the same message. I used the camera just before doing the clean install of Windows 7 64-bit so I know that it is not a hardware issue, but it does appear that there is some type of hardware incompatibility issue with "7". Any ideas? Possible OS settings I'm missing?

A:DELL Inspiron 1525 Internal Microphone Not Working After Windows 7 Upgrade

Hi vinnyspice,

According to Dell's website, this laptop's drivers are only for Windows Vista. You contact Dell and see if there is any update available.

In the meantime, try downloading and installing the chipset driver and the sound card driver for Windows Vista and see if the issue can be resolved. You can download
them
HERE.

Also, run Windows Update to see if it helps.

My internet has stopped working on both my wired and wireless connections.

Kimberley89 raised the same problem and i have been through the solutions suggested on thread number 928983 and have come to the end, as she did, with the problem unresolved.

When I load my machine it says:

"Your wifi catcher band configuration is not compastiblewith your WLAN card band configuration" "select yes to automatically change your wifi catcher or no to keep your current band configuration." Neither resolves the issue.

I too have the Dell wireless 1395 mini-card and run vista.

I was unable to do the SFC step:

"Cannot open boe\Desktop\SFCdetails.txt"

I havent run a registry check would you recommend this and if so advise on a suitable program as i do not have one.

Thanks in advance,

I have removed the original Win10 and reinstalled from scratch Win8.1 Pro on my Dell xps 13 9350. I have downloaded all the possible drivers from the official "Dell driver download" page and run them all in the order suggested. Also the BIOS is updated. However, there are still several devices not recognized: 1. There is no Win8.1 driver for the trackpad. The one of Win10 is not compatible with Win8.1, so the trackpad is currently recognized in the device manager as PS/2-compatible. Moral: the scroll function does NOT work!! 2. Under "other devices" I get two "PCI data acquisition and signal processing controller" icons and one "unknown device" flagging "there are no compatible drivers for this device" 3. After installing the latest drivers (February updates -not sure which one in particular created the problem) I now get also under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" and icon with "Standard SATA AHCI Controller" flagging "this device cannot start. (Code 10)" While I can live with 2. and 3., the issue 1. with the trackpad is VERY annoying, and it would be great if Dell would provide a driver for it (btw., this model is now more than 3 months on the market). PS: the February update seems has fixed part of the problems with the WiFi and with mouse. I could solve them temporarily in January by installing other drivers of another model (Dell xps 15 9550), in particular these two: Communications_Driver_G1... Read more

A:Dell xps 13 9350 downgrade windows 8.1, trackpad not working and other issues.

Hope this helps for items 1 and 2, not sure about item 3...
For item 1, have you tried using the Windows 7 touchpad driver?  Download link below.  When you run the downloaded Dell Update Package, choose Extract (not Install), and create a folder to extract the files.  Then right click Setup.exe, choose Properties, then click the Compatibility tab, and then check the Compatibility box and choose Windows 7.  This should allow the driver to install successfully.
For item 2, you'll need to install the Serial I/O driver, which isn't listed for Windows 8.1, but you can find it in the Dell Driver Pack for Windows 8.1, link below also.  You'll need something like 7zip to extract the CAB file, but you'll find the driver buried in there.  Once you have the driver pack extracted to a folder, you can go into Device Manager, then right click the PCI Data Acquisition device, then choose Update Driver. Then choose Browse, and point it to the extracted folder and make sure include subfolders is checked.  The driver should then install.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7 and a majority of the top keys on the keyboard aren't working; more specifically the Q-R, and the U-P keys. I've had the computer for about 2 years now. I've had a previous keyboard issue in the past where I would type a the "I" key and it would type both the "I" and "O," but this was usually fixed by just restarting my computer.
I've tried the keyboard troubleshooting procedure, but that didn't solve anything. I'm considering buying a new keyboard for my laptop but I don't want to waste the money if it is an issue with wiring and not the keyboard itself. Does anybody have any clue on how to fix or test my issue?

I suggest that you replace the defective keyboard which is easy to do and costs about $15.  Procedure is available on youtube.

My home desktop is connected to a wireless router through AT&T U-verse and it's broadcasting just fine. I can see the name and everything when I try and connect on my laptop but there is always an error that brings me to a troubleshooting screen. I've made sure the password is correct by going to Start-Run, IPCONFIG and then typing my IP address into the address bar in my browser. I dont know what else I can do, I feel like I've tried everything! Help please.

A:Laptop (Win7 Dell Inspiron 1525) won't connect to desktop (XP Dell) wireless router

Sometimes, you need to replace the router.
Sometimes, you can call your service provider and ask them to take a look on line to see if the subscription needs to be refreshed.
But often, all that is needed (despite the fact that it is a lot of work) is to uninstall your existing system, then reboot, and reinstall everything.
You might also find success by looking at your device manager in Windows to see if you have any grey, red, or yellow flags by any related device. That may show you have a permanent hardware failure if you cannot restore it, then you are off to the store or your provider for a new cable modem or router.

This does is not isolated to my computer, the display computer at Best Buy also had this issue. This is a big problem because I need those keys in order to test my programs. I have looked in many places some say it is a problem with the bios other say with the drives and others say with the hardware.
I have already tried calling technical support and they could not do anything about it. Hello all,

I'm having a bit of trouble with the search feature but so far haven't found any info. I figure to post while I keep looking.
So, I just received my CB 13 and it's a beautiful machine. But when I play audio, at or above 50%, the keys resonate noticeably. The higher the volume goes, the worse it gets. To me, that's totally unacceptable. I used a tone generator to help me pinpoint it and it appears to come from the keys. If I put my hands over the keyboard, it goes away completely. Remove my hand, and it resonates a lot again.
Has anyone experienced this issue with the CB 13?
Also, the trackpad seems a little finicky. I had trouble click and dragging - it would go all over the place.
How does Dell handle exchanges btw? I hope this isn't a common issue across all CB 13s :(

I've been using this L412, #4403,  for a few years, and quite satisfied with it.Sorry for the long post, I believe the chain of events are relevant to the issue. A few days ago the fan died. I cleaned the laptop less than half a year ago so probably not dust issue. I dual-boot Windows 7 and Linux Mint Qiana and it wouldn't work on either of them, so probably not OS issue. BIOS doesn't have any fan info.Replaced it with a new fan, correct model, everything according to the manual and proper CPU fan replacement practices. After assembly everything was working as usual. Next day everything was working as usual. On its second day the fan didn't turn on when I turned the laptop on. At the same time, trackpad and trackpoint stopped working, volume control doesn't work, and the special Fn keys don't work. The F1-F12 keys work. Insert, Delete, Home, End keys work. The Fn+Insert does a Screenshot as it should, but none of the other Fn special keys work. All that happened at once, from the moment I booted up the laptop. I checked the two OSs again. None of the above work on either of them. Doesn't work during boot-up sequence.Found a way on Linux Mint to turn on the fan to full-power, but it's like that only after the OS reaches the desktop. Auto mode makes it turn 0 RPM, full-power makes it turn at about 435 RPM (very stable). I assume it's not an OS issue because it stopped on both of them at the same time, and it doesn't work during boot-up sequence even though... Hello There is a feature in Lenovo Ideapad 310 which is being annoying to me: the trackpad is deactivated when I press a key in the keyboard. How this can be configured on Xubuntu 16.04, Ubuntu Mate 16.04 and on Asus M2400Ne with a Synaptics device, looks like this is solely a software issue, but I was not able to find where is this configuration on Windows 10. The Windows 10 options in Configurations-> Devices-> Mouse and Touchpad had no effect, even the option to delay the time between I use the keyboard and click was not effective. Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Mouse had no option to change this too. I have searched and found this topic, but I am seriously concerned regarding messing with Windows registries. I do not want to change registries I do not know because I need the capability to boot the computer after this. I tried to find the registries cited on that topic, but could not find them. Is there a option somewhere which I can deactivate this behaviour? All drivers are updated using the System Update program that came installed on the computer. Windows 10 is updated too. Thank you.

A:Dell 1525 touchpad

Fairly common problem in that model if the laptop gets rugged use.
Often that problem is caused by a small wire plug-socket becoming detached.
You can remove the bezel and keyboard, and reseat it and usually ahve success... if not, purchase a used bezel... because the operational chips are attached to the bezel electronics. In some cases you have to replace the keyboard and the bezel... total cost about $45 on eBay.

Hi All,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 that has completely died. I'm not sure what happened to it exactly, as there is not evidence of a drop or a spill, but there are no signs of life whatsoever. I took the battery out, and plugged in the adapter. I know the adapter works fine as the little green light comes on when it's plugged in, and I tried it in another laptop in which it worked. When I hit the power button nothing happens. No lights turn on, or flash, no sounds are made...nothing. It's lifeless. I was thinking about just hitting eBay and ordering a new motherboard, but does anyone know if this is the right thing to do? I don't have the $100 bucks to throw down without being certain so I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Sounds like the DC jack is bad, on your laptop. I would recommend taking it to the nearest (reputable) shop or technician and have them take a look before paying to replace anything.
