USB Storage Not Recognized

Q: USB Storage Not Recognized

Until this problem started this week, I've not had problems accessing data from my USB thumb drive through the 4 USB ports on the front of my computer.

Now, when I plug a device in, I hear the indicator that i've plugged something new in I can see the devide in the Devices and Printers window but it isn't fully recognized... says troubleshooting is needed, though when i run the trouble shooter, nothing happens. This has happened with 3 different thumb drives and a usb cd burner.

When I go to access drives on the computer, I am unable to see the usb thumb drive.

To date, i have uninstalled the usb drivers and restarted and that didn't work.

If I try to restart with ANY usb drive in the front 4 ports, I get a blue error screen saying there is an unknown boot device, so I end up having to restore to my last restore point.

Any help would be much appreciated!!! THANK YOU in advance!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

What's the model number(M/N) and product number(P/N) and serial number(S/N) of that HP?

Did that problem occur before or after you installed PC Matic?

After using an intermittent USB extension cord with a flash drive, when I connect any external storage device driectly to a USB port I get "USB Device not recognized" "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned." In Device Manager under USB it shows an unknown device. External hard drive does not show up in disk drives in device manager. I tried uninstalling all USB items in Dev Mgr, they reinstall but still get same message for flash and ext hard drive. Other devices work fine in the same USB ports. I tried System Restore. No luck. HELP!! Thanks!

A:Solved: USB Ext Storage not recognized

Hi jaylin

Try this:

Plug the FLASH or EXT drive. You should hear the "turun" sound when an USB device is plugged in.
Right click My Computer and select MANAGE.
Got to the Storage section and click the DISK MANAGEMENT section. Wait on the right side to populate.
Check if your EXT drive or your flash drive is listed there.
IF so, check if it has a DRIVE LETTER assigned to it (Should be something like D:, E: or such)
IF it does not has a DRIVE LETTER assigned, right click it and select CHANGE DRIVE LETTERS AND PATHS.
If it has any drive letter assigned to it, change it to a letter form the end of the alphabet, say Y: X: or Z:
This is to ensure that you are assigning a letter that is available on the system.
After that, Say OK to everything and close the Computer Management window. Your FLASH or EXT drive should appear now on the MY COMPUTER window with it's new drive assinged.

Hope it helps !

Yesterday my external hard drive, flash drives, iPod, and memory card reader, which are all USB mass storage devices were working fine. However, today none of them show up in explorer, and when they're viewed in device manager all of them have an error message that says, "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)". I have already used system restore to go back to yesterday and it didn't solve the problem. Also, my flash drive is made by Sandisk and has a second partition that mounts as a CD drive, and this works properly. Does anyone have a solution to this problem? This is very bad for me because I can no longer back up my computer until it recognizes my external hard drive.

Thanks for the help!

Edit: I am using 64-bit Windows 7

I updated to the latest chipset drivers and the latest BIOS for my motherboard, but USB storage devices still won't mount. I'm at a loss. Perhaps something is wrong with my motherboard?

Here is a picture of what device manager looks like now. As you can see, the USB drives no longer have yellow error triangles next to them under the "Disk Drives" dropdown, but under "storage volumes" there is an equal number of generic volumes with yellow triangles as there are USB storage devices plugged in.

I have WD 1 TB drive that was working fine. I noticed it had 3 partitions on it so I removed 2 of them with AOMEI Partition Assistant.
Aomei competed the operations and now my box will not recognize the drive. I tried it on my desktop and it also will not recognize the drive.
When I connect the drive, on either machine, it makes that "beep/bump" sound that lets me know something has been inserted but that is it.

Any ideas.

Also:
I went into device manager and told it to scan for hardware changes, that did nothing.
I tried to update drivers but that never completed. The progress bar just kept looking and did not find anything.

A few weeks ago I noticed that my iPhone suddenly stopped charging when I plugged it into the usb ports of my computer. I shrugged it off initially and just charged it using other means, but soon afterwards I realized that no external drives work at all. I've already scratched out the possibility that my usb ports are damaged, because usb devices ranging from my mouse to my tablet still work perfectly.

I have a feeling it's some kind of registry error, but I haven't been able to find the registry key for removable storage (if there is one).

I can't use a system restore, because an (unauthorized) windows update seems to have erased any system restore points I had for previous years. When windows eventually started updating again without authorization, I reset the computer since I clearly remember turning off automatic updates after the first update (and it was supposed to off before that too), and I was suspicious since my antivirus software was out of date.

Is it possible that this reset damaged my registry, or could it be some other problem? Would a windows repair work, or should I just give the windows updates a go?

Once again, please don't advise me to check if my usb ports are damaged, or say that my removable storage is faulty. The usb ports work with all other devices, and I've already tested each removable storage device.

Yeah, sorry about the title, I tried to make it as informative as possible.

I'm asking for help. I've searched around the net for ages to try to find answers to this issue, but I can't find anything that matches my problem exactly.

My computer has issues with usb storage drivers I think. All usb stick thingys don't work. And they do work on every other computer I've tested them on... which is probably around six or so. Whenever I plug them in, it comes up with that very unhelpful message that says that "USB not recognised", and when I check the device manager, it comes up with Unknown Device.

Also, when I plug in an MP3 player, they are only read half of the time. The other half, they do the same rubbish that occurrs with my USB things...

My printer and keyboard both work fine, so I know it isn't a problem with my hardware. Well, maybe it could be a problem with my PSU, but it is a 550W, and I'm sure that my components aren't draining that much power.

Finally, my 7-in-1 card reader isn't recognised by vista most of the time. When it is finally recognised and the drives show up in My Computer, but when I put an SD card in or something, nothing happens.

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate, which was upgraded from a buggy version of Home Basic Lite edition. And, if I can't get this fixed, I'll format my computer, but I don't really want to resort to that.

Hi all, well this is a long shot now to post a question about my prety old mp3 player(Rio Chiba 128). The thing is that I have a good amount of good music I would like to copy off of it. Anyways I have Vista Home Premium 32bit and when I plug in the mp3 player, it recognizes it as being a Rio Chiba device but can not find any available drivers for it. I already tried the following:-changed the cable-directed the "New Device" wizard to look for drivers in C:\Windows\INF , C:\Windows\winsxs-copied different copies of "usbstor.inf" & "usbstor.PNF" into C:\Windows\INF and different locations but none of those have worked-I have even tried deleting INFCACHE.1 and nothing. -went to: http://www.digitalnetworksna.com/support/r....asp?prodID=109 which is Rio's support page for this device but they claim it doesnt need a driver as the OS should read it as a mass storage device. The mp3 player still works fine and plays music as it should it just doesnt want to be recognized in either vista or xp. any help or suggestions is really appreciate it as Im very little away from giving up on it. Thanks all!

Most likely a power supply failure, that's a non-servicable part except by the manufacturer, so it's one you replace. [can hold a charge and possibly KILL you if opened up]

Any PC repair shop near you can verify that the PSU is croaked in a minute, with a PSU tester which you can buy for $20ish.

Rosewill RTK-PST Digital LCD Power Supply Tester - Newegg.com

PC is acting like it doesn't have the juice to run the parts, just so much more likely PSU dead, eliminate that before moving on, hopefully it didn't damage anything else.

I have a 1TB external storage drive that uses its own power supply and connects to my laptop via USB 2.0 cable. For months I've had absolutely no problem out of the device, until the computer randomly decided to forget the device was plugged in. Now I'm lucky to get the device to be recognized by the computer at all, and when it is recognized, if I try to move anything to/from the device, the connection is immediately severed from the computer.

I use this device for my backup as well as holding on to things I would rather not get rid of. All my drivers are up to date, I've done all the Power Management checking and unchecking that I've read from other threads found via Google search, and still it won't work correctly for me. Any advice?

A:Self-Powered External Storage not recognized/randomly disconnecting

Providing you have done all the power options to attack the problem from the OS end of things, then you must consider that the drive itself is the problem. This seems likely since the drive has worked fine in the past.

The first suspect would be the USB cable, the connector on either end, or the port on either end.

The second suspect would be the hard drives power supply. These do go bad. If it is not supplying proper power then the drive will fail to be recognized correctly.

Try the drive on another computer. If it exhibits the same behavior there then you can narrow it down to one of the two issues above.

I created a Storage pool with the following setup. Three 3TB drives with parity all in an external enclosure with eSata and USB 2/3 ports. It was connected via USB when created and had production data loaded and tested without any issues.
After a few days of use I decided to see what happened when I tried to access it via the eSata port. No luck, due to a driver on the eSata card issue with Win 8. So I powered all back down and plugged back in via USB. At this point the Storage pool went

With Google I couldn't find answer, how to handle USB removable media inside camera.
With camera there is no "Safely remove hardware and eject media" option.
When Photo camera is connected, a new camera device is installed and GUI window is opened with option to browse or copy photos. But there is no removable storage devise eject button on notification area. The USB removable Storage devise is also present on File Manager Computer left panel but again, there is no mouse right button eject option as normally with removable storage devices. I have checked in on several computers. How to understand. I don't believe that it's camera specific but Camera is Canon S95.

Has anyone tried the new Storage Spaces feature in Windows 8? Your experience with it?

More specifically:

1. If this system is used on a shared network with other operating systems such as XP and Windows 7, can the storage pool drives be set up as shared, and become visible and usable from the XP and Win 7 machines?

2. If you have a Network Backup drive, like WD My Book Live, will it see and back up the Storage Spaces configured drive just like any other drive on the network?

A:Storage Spaces (Storage Pool) Experience?

I've only set this up on a Windows Server 2012 configuration therefore I cannot provide the exact steps on how to set one up in a client environment. That being said, a storage space/pool is essentially a virtual disk that resides on one or multiple physical disks allowing you to accumulate free space. For example if I have multiple servers with free space on their data drives I can then create a storage pool to accumulate this. To allocate this storage pool/space to a user or machine you will need to decide what you wish to do with it. Below are a couple of examples of how:

Share via Windows Folder Sharing (UNC Path)Use iSCSI to use the current ethernet infastructure allowing you to assign the storage pool/space a drive letter to the client machineIn a server environment you may wish to use it for DFS (Distributed File System) to maintain redundancy

Personally I use my storage pool as an iSCSI drive for which i have partitioned.

   Warning
You can only use the free space of a non Windows install drive. To my knowledge you cannot overcome this with partitioning.

In relation to your second question, you will only able to use the share as a safepoint backup if it is shared via Windows Folder Sharing. For example: \\computername\share

Also you will need to make sure that the NAS is on the same workgroup as the Windows 8 machine hosting the storage pool otherwise it will not be able to find the share. Hopefully this is what you asking however pleas... Read more

Hello,

I have a PC which is having a lot of trouble recognizing a USB data acquisition device. Starting from a situation where the PC *does* recognize the device, here is the basic pattern:

1. PC shows device in Device Manager under "Data Acquisition Devices".

2. If the PC is power-cycled via the power plug itself, the device is no longer recognized under Device Manager ("Unknown Device").

3. If the PC is power-cycled via Start Menu --> Turn Off, same results as above, no longer recognized.

4. If the PC is power-cycled via Start Menu --> Restart, no problems, device recognized.

When the device is not recognized, unplugging and replugging the USB cable makes no difference to the situation. In order to correct the issue, I disable and then enable via Device Manager (which also involves a restart).

This pattern is extremely repeatable.

I am working with WinXP SP2, Pentium, 2.8 GHz, 504 MB RAM.

This PC was returned from a customer site - the PC and USB device are used in a machine my company manufactures. Apparently this issue just started happening one day. We want not only to correct the issue, but in fact to understand the root cause and ensure it will not happen again in the future.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

A:USB Device Recognized / Not Recognized based on shut-down method

You could try reinstalling the usb drivers.
JohnWill has fix that is worth a try

Johnwill's solution

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG
-------------------------- Use text after this line --------------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]

"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"
-------------------------- Use text before this line --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

NOTE: If you have a USB keyboard and/or mouse, you'll have to modify the instructions and leave enough parts for those to function. I don't have one yet, so I haven't had time to modify the instructions.

Hello all. It has been a while since I've needed help but my run of luck has hit an ugly downturn. Moved my computer three weeks ago and had not plugged it all back together till last night. All these years I had used it without a password to log in but a few months back a tech friend expressed horror at this so I started using one. Last night no matter what I did it wouldn't let me log in, saying incorrect password. Today as I messed around again I went through the steps of asking it to reset password (even though I didn't have disc for reset) and realized it does not seem to be recognizing my internal drive. If one of my externals are on they come up but if I turn off externals I get a bubble that says 'No Drive. This feature requires removable media etc.' My drive seems to be running and the Windows logos do appear during boot. My keyboard seems to be functioning to type password, but when I hit F8 while rebooting I get no reaction, so cannot boot to safe mode, just goes right back to log in page. I have had mold/moisture issues in this new house but have had a dehumidifier running since just a few days after computer arrived here. However I do see some evidence of mold or dust in the case, not a lot but some. Not sure what the root of this problem is but I am trying hard not to panic. Any ideas?

A:Internal drive not recognized/password not recognized

Your tech. friend may have mis-understood when you need a password.
If you are at home and only you and you trusted family have access to you computer, there is no need whatsoever for a logon password.
The only time I have ever needed one is when I was using my own laptop on clients site when I was contracting and I would leave it on the desk over lunch.

I have an old PC (Compaq Presario Desktop 7470 ) that i purchased from a yard sale. I removed the old HD and replaced it with a quantum 30gb at Lct 20 HD that had Windows ME OS on it. I booted the pc and it booted fine except windows booted up in 16 bit color. I shut down and booted again. same thing. i shut down a third time and checked BIOS settings, then set them to default. Now BIOS doesn't recognize the HD or the CD-ROM drive. I have checked all connection, reset BIOS, removed the CMOS battery, I literally have tried everything I can think of to get things going on this old PC, but I am at the end of my rope. I will say that scandisk will recognize the HD and says it is OK. I have also taken the HD out and hooked it up to another PC and it boots up Windows ME just fine. I have also tried every jumper setting on the HD and Cd-rom to no avail and the only drive that shows up in BIOS is the 3.5 floppy drive which will boot up a Windows ME Boot Disk. I don't have a problem installing a fresh OS but want and need the PC to recognize the drives before i can do that correct?
I am ready to pull my hair out!! Can anyone please help me?!!!?

A:HD recognized by scandisk but HD not recognized by BIOS

probably the booting sequence is wrong due to the fact that you told the BIOS to load the preferred defaults. If you have a standard BIOS:

*go to advanced BIOS settings.... your going to see a big list of options .

<< check this picture for visual example>>
*take a look at the first , second and third boot device and change them to:

1- HDD - 0
2- HDD - 1
3- HDD - 2

Alternate them accordingly.

**probably the reason why your pc booted up at 16 bit the first time , may be
because you haven't installed the drivers for your video card yet.

2)Uninstalling Roxio and Nero
3)Reinstalling Nero

I am attaching output of Nero Info, Error during the burn process, screenshot of Nero Info Tool and screenshot of Nero Express Essentials.

Not sure what is wrong where and sony support as usual is not helpful...
Please heeeellllllppppp......

Your DVD player may not be re-writeable. Check your specs. Some players are read only and some are read/write. At least this will help you to the next step in determining a solution.

Howdy,

I recently added two sticks of new RAM to my computer, but when I turned it on again I got the two-beep "RAM Not Detected" signal. I removed the new RAM, but I still got the two-beep signal after turning it on. I've removed the old RAM, sprayed the area with duster, put the old RAM back and still have the same problem.

What to do? Thanks.

Hello everyone..
Yesterday my laptop pushed a new Win 10 update, and all went fine, or at least I think so.
But today I see that my Sony WALKMAN - which I used with no problem until now, can't be recognized anymore.

Basically it just shows as (E or Usb Drive E: but when I click it it says "Please insert a disk into E:/" like there is nothing there.

Now the interesting part is.. if I go to Device Manager I see it and clicking on properties etc t says it's working fine.

But if I go to Disk Management, the Drive shows as 14 gb of unallocated space and it's greyed out.

However, if I put it on my brother's laptop, it works perfectly and it can be opened, music moved into it etc - it shows as Healthy - Primary Partition in Disk Management. So it doesn't seem broken...

It's the same on each of the 4 usb ports btw. But, other usb devices (2 phones, 1 tablet) don't have any issue and are detected.

What could have caused this? I tried the basic Disable/Enable in Device Manager and also Uninstall Driver.. It doesn't do anything, it appears back when I replug it in.

No change in Safe Mode and no change after sfc /scannow

If anyone has any idea I'd be happy to try anything to fix this..

Thanks!

A:USB device not recognized on my laptop but recognized in other pcs/lap

This problem is being reported by many forum members with many different USB devices. It seems that Windows 10 Anniversary is having problems properly recognizing certain USB drives and devices. So far, no one has come up with a clear fix for this issue but it sounds like it is clearly related to the Anniversary update. For the record, I did a clean install and have not had any issues but most of the people reporting this problem make reference to updating to Anniversary.

So i have a seagate 1tb external HDD, and it's been plugged into my desktop computer, with network sharing turned on, but our wifi is password protected, so i don't know if that has that much to do with it.
anywhos, my computer likes to restart and sometimes not start back up on occasion, and the last time it did this, my hard drive wouldn't be recognized. I went through troubleshooting on the seagate website, and in the device manager, the HDD is there. upon unplugging, it doesn't show up, so the DM is correct. But when i go to "My Computer" (XP home edition), nothing is showing up. Any ideas/suggestions?

note- it does spin up when i plug it in and everything.

An external hard drive works perfectly fine via USB 2, but USB 3.0 won't recognize the drive. It ignores it entireley. It won't even appear in the list of hard disks in Disk Manager, @Active or EaseUS Partition Manager.A driver issue? A h/w issue?  Creating a partition on the external drive, creating and formatting a logical drive did NOT solve this problem with a brand-new drive designed to work via USB 3.0.Any ideas?

Hi,

I set the maximum shadow copy storage space to 8 GB in my Vista and thought I should never worry about the space in my system disk. However, I have just found the Used Shadow Copy Storage space is bigger than the Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space at the moment:

Used Shadow Copy Storage space: 10.326 GB
Allocated Shadow Copy Storage space: 10.573 GB
Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space: 8 GB

Do you know why and how to limite the Used Shadow Copy Starage space?
Thank you for any suggestions!

A:Used Shadow Copy Storage space is bigger than the Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space !

It would be helpful if you filled in the System Specs. That way if you post on another issue people answering don't have to ask the same questions about your hardware over again, or search for the post with the info. Just push the specs link in every one of your posts.

I'm not sure how they measure the space usage. But 8 GB sounds like only a couple of restore points. How big is the HD? I suspect when deciding to discard an old restore point it looks at the current usage. If under the limit, it keeps all the old and makes another. That's just a guess on my part. But you can try a few different max numbers and see how it acts for yourself. As Yogi Berra said, "you can observe a lot by watchin'".

I have an older Dell machine that I plan to use as a backup server for my family. It has 2 SATA HDDs, 1 IDE DVD drive, 1 IDE HDD

The SATA drives are recognized in BIOS. The IDE-DVD and IDE-HDD are not. Interestingly, when looking at the folder structure in Windows Explorer, all the devices appear. When looking at "Device Manager", all the devices appear. Everything actually functions when windows boots up. Trouble is, when powering on, the boot -screen tells me the Disk-3 and Disk-4 are missing. Then waits for me to press F1 to continue, or F2 to enter BIOS. If if press F1, windows fires up, and all works.
Trouble is, I want to schedule this to wake up on its own, run back ups, then shut off. I am learning how to do that, that is not the problem. Problem would be for the auto-turn-on, to be stuck in the BIOS screen waiting for someone to do something. That's a no-go for my intended purpose.

I have dillignetly gone through the "Master/Slave" configuration of the IDE drives. The IDE-DVD drive is Master, with a jumper, and on the end/black connector of the ribbon cable. The IDE-HDD is Slave (no jumper) and is attached to the middle/grey connector.

I have gone into Control Panel and eventually get into "Disk Manager". Here I see something that is perhaps the clue but I do not know how to rectify. The following is listed (and/or shown in the graphic panel of Disk Mgr):
>Disk 0, "Bright Blue", drive-name, Layout=Partition,... Read more

A:2 IDE drives not recognized, 2 SATA drives recognized

You need to go into the Bios. The DVD cannot be Master. It has to be set as a Slave, if connected to the same PATA cable as the IDE, which would be set as Master. You could try the two on Cable Select. But you may run into problems, because of having also the two SATA units.

I need an opinion. I am looking for a external harddrive 500gigs. I have seen the ones that are already together ( free agent, WD book) and I have seen where you can buy a hard drive and a case and put them together yourself. which route is best, and recommendations?

And the drive will be used just to store data not run games or movies from.

Any help would be great.

A:Storage Help

You can do a little shopping and compare. The enclosure can be had for 12 bucks and the drive around 100 if you dig around. Check for specials and watch for refurbished drives. Newegg, Geeks, PacificGeeks, there's a bunch of reliable places to search. Some come with backup software that may make the assembly a little more expensive. And you can get free software that'll do the same thing. Good luck with your search.

Hey anyone have one of those USB storage devices ? I am going to pick one up late this week, probably 64 or 128. I am going to use it to load drivers and utilities for when I go to others computers to load or fix something, sounds better then carrying a load of disks and cd's, I can get them from 32meg to 1 gig. Anyone have them, like them ? i will let you all know.

A:USB Storage

I used one of the 128Mb to help a guy in class, and liked it very much... Easy to access, quick transfer, and generally no hassle... (this was on a 2k box...)

I'd buy one or 2 myself, if it weren't for the price...

Q: Storage

Hello! I've been using my HP Stream 13 for almost a month and I find a very confusing part about the storage. My computer has 32 GB storage and 2GB RAM. To save storage, since the internal memory is minimal, I inserted a 128 GB usb 3.0 and store all my files there so that internal storage won't decrease. However, the memory still keeps decreasing as I continue using the Laptop. I tried using CC Cleaner so that somehow I could delete unnecessary files. But still it didn't work. So from time to time I check storage about the allocation of files, what type increases so bad that it eats up the memory.  Then I noticed that the System & reserved is increasing so as my temp files plus I couldn't delete the temp files. At the moment, my free storage is 2.01 GB. This is bothering me. Is this normal? haha if not, what could I do about this? By the way my laptop is not partitioned.

Hi there, brand new.

Probably a simple question to answer, so here it is. I have been backing up my digital photos onto CD-R's. Apparently a CD-R can hold 700M. However, after copying about 40M of pics onto the CD, it tells me the disk is full. When I check the properties of the disk, it also says there is no more space. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm building a high performance DAW

My setup was going to be;

SSD - OS and Programs
500GB SATA 32MB - Storing Audio
4GB DDR3 (NOT DDR2)

The audio will be sent through my soundcard (pci), through the ssd (through Cubase) and then saved to the 500GB HDD, but will the write speeds of the ssd hamper the overall performance? Would it be a better idea to use a 10k rpm HDD for the OS and programs?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Hi, I have a 2Tb WD HDD acting as 2nd internal drive in my PC. I also have several offline HDD's that I use for data backup/storage. They all have a MBR partition. Will converting them to GPT decrease the chance of data corruption? I read that GPT is better at keeping data integrity over MBR.

A:GPT vs MBR for storage HDD's

Use GPT If:
HD is greater than 2.2.TBYou use the drive as Windows OS installed with UEFI style partitionYou plan to create more than 4 primary partitions

No speed differences. No need to go GPT on a drive under 2.2 TB.

When I bought this all-in-one, I did not know it doesn't have storage. Everything now goes to one drive (pics, software i purchase, docs....). I bought 256gb jump drive - i went to settings to default automatic storage options from one drive to jump drive - however whenever I press apply (changes) my PC reverts back to one-drive. This sucks- can't use my computer for work-which is why i purchased it.  I do commercial building inspections and take 1000's of pictures a month. I do not want one drive - don't want a monthly storage fee for life. Do not want other cloud based storage option for same reason. I think I may have addressed everything. Thanks - please help.

Has anyone tried maxing-out a P51 with a pair of Samsung 960 Pro M.2-2280 2TB drives and run this in RAID to give 4TB?  If not, should any problems be expected? Along with a SATA Samsung 4TB drive in the other bay, this would give a max of 8TB?  I currently run a W520 with 5TB of SSD (1TB mSATA, 2TB in regular bay and 2TB in CD drive bay). Thanks.
