BSOD when using DVD-drive

Q: BSOD when using DVD-drive

Hey Guys, need some help here also.

Here's the scenario. Last time when i use my dvd-drive, it didn't occured any BSOD, but later on i think around after few months, it start showing me BSOD sometimes when i'm using my dvd-drive.
Then i thought is the hardware failure, since the dvd-drive is quite old & slow already, somemore is an IDE drive.
Then i changed another new SATA dvd-drive, but still sometimes it still give me BSOD. I thought maybe is the power cable fault, then i switch another power cable, still the same. I can't find the root cause of this problem, please help.

BSOD details :

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP:0x000000D1

here's i attach my minidump log, & the pic of the BSOD

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Please post your computer specifications. Are you using a laptop or desktop computer? Try upgrading your computer parts drivers such as chipset drivers, sound-card drivers, video-card drivers, and even possibly network card drivers. Hope this will help you out.

Hiya

I've just finished building my new computer and I'm getting BSOD errors when first formatting a hard drive and secondly (after a successful format) installing a game on it.

My boot up SSD drive seems to be fine, it's just my other hard drive.

64bit Windows 7 Home premium. Full version I bought a a few days ago. The whole computer is new. If you need any further information, let me no.

8GB RAM. Intel Core i5 2500k CPU. Radeon 7850 graphics. 120ish SSD. 1Tb hard drive. Asus P8Z68-V Pro gen3 motherboard.

Edit: having just seen a notice, I've updated the post to contain two attachments. Or atleast I think I have :\

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Hi all. When booting up my PC it causes a BSOD at the Window password screen displaying the error 'Driver_irql_less_or_not_equal'. The only way I can start the PC is by booting whilst hitting F8 and choosing 'Last known good configuration'.

I've tried to do a system restore twice but it caused a BSOD both times. I am running Windows 7 64 bit.

Please help?!

Thank you.

Since the recent November update I have been getting BSOD about once a day, with the following Notification

Driver IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL (dxgmsl.sys)

What puzzles me about this (not that I know much about it anyway) is that when I restart the computer  it is not the © Drive that is scanned / repaired but the (D) Drive, an integral SD Memory Card. The © Drive has the OS, on (D) are mainly apps / programs, documents, media. Has this anything to do with the fact that I have used the new option to move apps from © to (D)? Are not the drivers on the © Drive with the OS?

Can someone explain, after which I will see if I can follow the procedure for submitting request for BSOD help if that is the thing to do.

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64
- the original installed OS on the system? yes
- an OEM or full retail version? OEM
- What is the age of system (hardware)? 1 year
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) haven't re-installed

Since the recent November update I have been getting BSOD once or twice a day. What follows is the on screen notification:

Driver IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL(dxgnms1.sys)

What puzzles me most (not that I know much about this anyway) is that when I restart it is not the (C) Drive which has the OS which is scanned and repaired, it is the (D) Drive with apps / programs, docs and media. This has not happened before, is it unusual? Has it anything to do with the fact that I have just made full use of the new MOVE option to transfer apps to (D)? I understand that it likely to be a driver issue and thought drivers would be on (C)?

Can someone explain this to me before I try to apply the Forum instructions for reporting BSOD?

Hi, im keep getting the BSOD when i use my cd drive to access a cd. I have had a look for the mini dump files in c:\windows\minidump and my computer doesnt seem to be writing any. I have even done a search for .mdmp files and have found a few old files but nothing that relates to anything recent. the error codes that i am getting are:

0x0000000000000000
0XFFFFFA800B103030
0X00000000B2000040

and on the other occasions that it happens, the 4th line changes to the following:
B36C030
B3DA030
B434030

ive tried to get a debugger but without the files its a bit of a non starter!

Ive reinstalled the driver for the cd drive (Hitachi HDT725032VLA) and it is now ok under the hardware properties but still crashes my system when i try to use it!

Been having a lot of BSOD recently. Every time I try to burn a disc, I come back to it and this has happened now with two different drives (just upgraded to a blu ray burner). The computer has also been locking up often within 15 minutes of starting up and requires a hard reset. I imagine if I left it be during those times, it'd ultimately result in another BSOD.

I'll try uploading the information as per instructions, but I manually wrote down the message BSOD...

"Stop: 0x0000000F4 (0x000000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA8010F95100, 0xFFFFFA8010F958E0, 0xFFFFF800037DD460)"

Welcome bonjourmate.

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump. You first search them manually in the default path,
C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump.

If that location is empty, Follow the tutorial:
Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Wait for the next crash, and then post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Anyway, a stop 0xF4 is storage related. For it, what you are to do initially is:
Update your SSD's Firmware (not needed if you are not using a SSD)
Re-seat the sata and power. (for all drives including Optical and internal disks)
Run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check
Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.
Let us know the results.

Hi.

I've been having loads of PC problems recently and its getting me down. Just as I thought I had it stable I noticed this.

I keep getting Bugcode_USB_Driver blue screen. But it only seems to happen overnight when i'm not there to see if anything is causing it. But if its happening while the PC isn't really being used how on earth is it happening?

The only thing running is O&O Defrag. One of my external drives (1TB Seagate) is highly fragmented and it seems like it will take hours to complete, but it never manages to finish because while leaving it running I wake up to a BSOD. I manage to have it running a few hours a day but no BSOD occurs, just when I check it after a night of sleep!

Could this be the problem? My external drive is going dodgy?

I've tried uninstalling all usb drivers and changed the usb port its using. And just to eliminate things, a system overclock would not cause this right? Its not running too hot and has been stable for months before now.

This is incredibly frustrating and would like some advice and help.
Thanks

I am trying out Drive Vaccine on my old vaio desktop with Win XP and every time I reboot or shut down I get a BSOD a second before it restarts or it shuts down. The only security I have is unchecky and the latest version of CIS. I tried disabling all of CIS but that doesn't help.

A:Drive Vaccine BSOD

It seems like a driver conflict (classpnp.sys) assuming that DV is fully compatible with XP, it is not enough to disable CIS because of the background processes.
You should restart in safe mode (f8) at boot and try to uninstall CIS.

Hi all ,

Been having these random pc crashes and BSOD , These have happen after i installed a 3tb HDD. I am not too sure if its a PSU issue where as being not enough or a Motherboard issue..... the reason i say motherboard issue is because when i was installing the new 3tb hard drive i had to take out one of my Radeon 7970 cards , in doing so i think i may of pulled out the plastic pci-e port of the board as i never pushed the release lever down enough , the port did seem to go back in ok. But after doing this my problems started to happen....but only when i have both cards in cross fire , single usage is fine , no crashes , but as soon as the second is put into crossfire mode i get crashes , The event viewer gives me a bugcheck code of 278 everytime...so i really dont know weather it is a power supply problem or a motherboard ( due to my carelessness ) below are my specs and the dump zip and perfmon zip.

I had 'Magicdisc' installed and it was working fine until a few days ago.I started getting blue screens due to the file 'mcdbus.sys' so i tried uninstalling 'MagicDisc' (which wasnt easy) and got rid of it using a command line to uninstall it. I wasn't sure if it uninstalled completely so I used 'CCleaner' and deleted faulty registeries. Then I installed 'Daemon Tools Lite' as I have to have a virtual drive and during installation, as soon as it said 'setting up virtual drive' my system gave a blue screen, this time due to the file 'dtsoftbus01.sys' and so I uninstalled the Daemon tools lite after logging into safe mode.

I really need a virtual drive software, but so far I've figured out that as soon as I install a program that creates virtual drive, my system starts giving blue screens. The system works fine otherwise.

Hi all, I've been having this weird problem and this site looked like a good place to ask about it because of the support I've seen. So wooooo first post~!
Anyway, whenever I unplug one certain flash drive (a Kingston DataTraveller SE9) my laptop bluescreens with the error "SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED". I can't figure out why for the life of me! I did, however, figure out that the flash drive is recognized as a local disk and not a removable one. This issue only applies to my laptop, that's it; the drive works perfectly fine on any other computer. I can still read and write to it no problem. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

A:Unplugging Certain USB Drive Causes BSOD

Some USB flash drives act like a hard drive which Windows lists as local disk instead of removable. You will notice that when you delete anything on the USB drive labeled local the deleted items go to the recycle bin. On a USB flash drive labeled removable the items are not sent to the recycle bin.

Download USBdeview. Run the program Highlight any listing for Kingston DataTravler and press the red X to remove. Reboot the computer and attach the Kingston again. Do you get the error?

How long have you been running Windows 7 on this motherboard? I believe that your hardware barely can support running Windows 7. Your BIOS is from 2009 which could be problematic.

Here are some of my suggestions:
Search your hardware parts on the Windows 7 Compatibility Center, and ensure that Microsoft has approved the product to be 7 ready.End with the Upgrade Advisor afterwards.

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor - Download - Microsoft Windows

Though if you're fine in Safe Mode, it might not be the problem but it can't hurt.

We have a dell Inspiron 9300. We keep getting the BSOD with the system 32 error. We don't have the OS disc, just the disc from dell. So we know we are going to have to set the computer back to factory settings. However, we want to get our pictures off of the hard drive before we do this.
We were thinking of using an enclosure to get the pictures off of the hard drive. Has anyone ever used one before? Also, how do we know what kind of hard drive we have ( PATA/EIDE..etc) to know which enclosure will work with the hard drive? Any help would be greatly appreciated! We want to save our wedding and honeymoon pictures!!!

A:Help backing up hard drive BSOD

there is a device out now that will allow you to slave either one using usb port - it is a USB 2.0 TO SATA/IDE adaptor - it works with ide, sata, and laptop hard drives - i use one almost daily and i love it - you can get it online - we carry them in the store for 30 bucks - cool thing is you never have to shut your system down to slave in the hard drive - for me that is a big thing because i may slave in 5 a day sometimes- anyway - that is one route you can go

Guys, my computer has just started giving me occasional BSODs within the past three weeks or so. The problems seem to come when my external hard drive is being accessed. That hard drive contains mostly media. The first couple of crashes happened while recording/capturing video to that hard drive from a game, and I assumed it was just something caused by the capturing mechanism in the game. Since then it has happened while browsing or listening to my MP3 collection in iTunes and Zune and other benign media-related activities like that.

I am running 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate, completely up to date from Windows Update. The hard drive is a recertified Seagate 1.5TB drive I got from Woot in December. In my attempts to fix this, I have updated every driver I could think to update, including video card and sound card, all to no avail. I've scanned the hard drive with the built-in error-checking tool, and it came up completely clean.

I'm attaching my zipped up minidump folder so maybe someone smarter than me can interpret it. Just let me know anything else you need. Please help me!

A:BSOD when using external hard drive

Hey there. I noticed you're running AVG which is the worst bsod offender going. Completely uninstall that then give it a go. Enjoy.

That will fix things. If on the very slight chance it doesn't, look into updating this driver:

I have a laptop, HDD is formatted into two partitions. On my non windows partition, when i do file copying over to it, or renaming a certain one file it will hang and I will get a BSOD. I can only assume that the hard drive, has some bad sectors or whatever on it, where that partition is physically.

I tried defragging that partition, it just BSOD again. Is there a way I can get the operating system to know that this area is bad and avoid using it. Better yet, shouldnt the hard drive be reporting errors to the OS so it knows?

I only know how to run a chkdisk while logged into windows through the GUI but it says the hard drive is in use so I cant, so how do I run one before booting windows. Will that fix my problem?

Last week I installed my new Hitachi Deskstar 1.5TB SATA 6.0 Gb/s hard drive. Windows recognized it right away and everything went smoothly as I transferred files over. A day later I started getting generic DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD's, but they only happened right after I woke up the computer from Sleep Mode. Before I installed the HD my computer was absolutely perfect with no problems so this made me think it was a driver issue. Updated all drivers with Driver Genius, but still BSOD after waking up computer (they are random, it doesn't happen after every wake).

My motherboard has two SATA III 6.0Gb/s ports. The first is occupied by my Crucial C300 SSD booting Win7 Ultimate x64, and the other with my new Hitachi. These are controlled by a Marvell 6.0Gb/s driver. I also have two SATA 3.0gb/s devices connected: a WD Black 1TB HD and an ASUS Optical drive. I'm starting to think it has something to do with either the Marvell Controller, or how these three hard drives are configured, but honestly I have no idea at this point. I'm usually well versed when it comes to troubleshooting BSOD's or any general problem with my PC but I cannot figure this out for the life of me so I'm hoping you guys can help me out!

P.S.

Before you guys ask for a minidump file, trust me, i've tried! I don't know why, but when my PC BSOD's it won't generate a dump file. I have all the settings configured for the memory dump, but it will not produce. I opened up the computer and checked all ... Read more

I have this hard drive that has the OS on it, and it is blue screening and returning to boot options menu. it is running off a custom gigabyte socket 775  main board via sata cable. i hooked it up into another computer and it appears to be a fine disk, albeit partitioned. does that mean that the OS is licensed for another board only?  i have the speccy and SIW screen shots of it if that helps.

is there a BIOS setting that is preventing it from loading?

while i had it hooked up to the other computer, i did a chkdsk /r on it and it said it needed to be dismounted..

Hello,

I am very beginner-level tech guy and am wondering if someone can point me in the right direction of how to proceed.

My Dell Dimension 8400 got the BSOD:
STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF8969528 , 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I ordered a new hard drive to replace the original hard drive expecting that to resolve the problem.
I allowed the system to create a partition based on the entire space allowed and started installing windows XP.
Windows XP installation progressed for a bit then when it restarted the computer it went straight back to the same BSOD!!!. OUTRAGEOUS!!!

I did a hard drive diagnostic and the new drive (Drive 0) got a "Pass" The two CD drives (Drive 4 & Drive 5) both said "Diagnostics Not Supported"

I have left the SATA Operation to the system default (RAID Autodetect / AHCI). I tried switching the SATA Operation to (RAID Autodetect / ATA), saved and exited, but still got BSOD.
All other BIOS settings are default

Is the Boot Sequence important? Currently it says:
1.Onboard or USB Floppy Drive
2. Onboard SATA Hard Drive
3. Onboard IDE Hard Drive (not present)
4. Onboard or USB CD-ROM Drive
If I change the Boot Sequence to SATA Hard Drive #1 could that help?

I hope I can fix this and the Mother board is not broken.

Should I be testing/checking the memory cards?
How would I do a RAM test, or a CPU test?

Would it be useful to disconnect/reconnect the internal components to ensure the connections are proper?

Any help is greatly a... Read more

Are you running XP SP3?

Running Combofix should be done under expert supervision; OS may have been damaged. Do you have your OS recovery disc?

I'm running Windows XP with all the latest updates on a Dell XPS 410. My on-board DVD drive is an HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H31N. Whenever I try to load a disk in the drive, it crashes. Insert, hum, crash. BSOD. Also, if there's a disk in the drive, the computer will go into a BSOD before it can boot. I have a few suspicions about Alcohol 120% causing this, but I've tried uninstalling it, and that hasn't fixed the problem. I also uninstalled several other programs (MagicISO, IsoBuster, PowerISO) and not seeing the problem change. DVDIdle might, I guess, be another possible culprit, though I don't know. I would think the fact that I can crash before even making it to the startup screen disqualifies a certain amount of software. But if you think I should go ahead and uninstall a bunch of things again, I will. I've tried flashing the firmware. It hasn't helped. I can't seem to find any new drivers for it. I've tried googling and such, but I haven't found a solution there either. This one really has me stuck.

The error is a Stop 0x000000B8 with four all-zero attributes.
My external DVD drive doesn't have this problem.
And no, I don't remember the last time I used this drive without the problem. I only discovered it today.

For your pleasure, I have included a picture of my BSOD.

So, i took the hard drive out and plugged it into another computer and installed Windows XP onto it.

I plugged the hard drive back into the laptop and all i get is a blue screen and then it restarts.

I have added an attachment of the blue screen.

Is it because i installed the operating system on the hard drive on a different computer??

If laptops is absolutely same, then most probably SATA controller settings in BIOS are different. In one laptop you have IDE in other AHCI. Result > BSOD.

I have Windows 8 installed on my SSD and I thought I'd plug in my HDD as well. I started up the PC, the HDD was found and there were no problems.
But it only took about 5 minutes and I got a BSOD. I don't know if this had to something to do with the HDD or if it might be due to something else.
Earlier I also recieved an error message when shutting the pc off, I don't know exactly what it said. Something about Memory...
Perhaps you'll find somehing in the logs as I have no idea what to look for.
It's strange that I've had two problem like this after only hours with Windows 8, while I cannot remember ever having a BSOD in Windows 7.
I would really appreciate any help! Thank you in advance!

Hi all, I have a Dell XPS 15 (L502X) with Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) and I just recently had to replace the hard drive, it's only been a year or year and a half. The past few days I've been getting random system failures...the system just shuts off without warning. Upon booting up, Windows Problem Reporting reports a BSOD with BCCode 7a. Research confirms this is most definitely a hard drive issue, where there are bad sectors or a damaged drive.

According to HDSentinel, my HD Health is only 76%!! I'm wondering if it would be worth it to run a full surface check and full disk check with HDSentinel.
