Unseen BSOD after shutdown hang, error 0x0000009f - bugcheck 1001 ID

Q: Unseen BSOD after shutdown hang, error 0x0000009f - bugcheck 1001 ID

Hi all and thanks for your help in advance. This problem is driving me nuts. Did a fresh install of Windows 7 64 bit on a Packardbell Easynote TE69, all was running fine for a while but then on shutdown/restart I would get a hang that would last for 5 minutes or so. When the system was turned back on I would occasionally see a BSOD flash up, every time after the hang I would get the "Your system has recovered from an unexpected shutdown message" with error code 0x0000009f. Googling has turned up little. I have found the same error codes in event viewer in relation to Bugcheck under event ID 1001. Driver Power State Failure pops up loads when searching and so does updating my Wi-fi driver which I have done but no change. The only other symptom is that my usb mouse only works intermittently, I have tried several new ones, but the problem remains. I have attached my minidump file. Any help would be awesome. Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I put the computer to sleep two days ago. I turned it on today to find it was off as of a few minutes after I put it to sleep. I'm not sure how or why this happened, or if it will continue to happen.

I should add that the battery was nearly full at the time so that can't be the problem.

Hello,
I am trying to setup a new desktop and encountered the BSOD a few times.  Here are the details from Event Viewer
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x00000001 (0x000000007764bdaa, 0x0000000000000000, 0x000000000000ffff, 0xfffff88009e12b60). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 121316-29047-01.

I tried installing Windows Debugging Tools for Windows 7 but wasn't sure how to analyze the memory.dmp file.  I also tried installing Debug Diagnostic Tool v2 Update 2 but due to permissions issues I was not able to open the memory.dmp file

I think it may be a driver issue?  I tried installing my graphics driver and usb 3.0 drivers manually from dell.  I am not able to reproduce the BSOD.  I tried running Driver Verifier to reproduce it but the computer would not get past the
windows splash screen.  (I had to start in safe mode to reset Driver Verifier)

Below is a link to download my memory.dmp file, any suggestions or advice on what I can try next will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

i have previously added more ram since i thought the DIMM_D1 and DIMM_D2 didn't work. i asked the retailer where i bought the motherboard if they did refurbishment on the board and i looked on ebay for someone with a new motherboard. i figured if this is the last i'll see of this card i'm gonna atleast try to see if the dimm stick work.

i added 1 ram stick in DIMM_D2 and booted up and saw that memory had increased then i added the 2nd and saw that it increased again.

this is probably not serious since it has been working now for over 2 weeks and no problem at all. i was playing some minecraft and was at the movies while the bsod happened so i went into the event logs for system and found event ID 1001 (bugcheck).

i recently (ca. for over 2 weeks ago) de-dusted my computer and added new thermal paste for the cpu. and by this i think i haven't cleaned the under side of the cpu all too well since i think either it was still filthy cause the DIMM slots D1 and D2 didnt work since they work fine now.

although i still want to do a memtest to be sure everything is ok since after the bsod i started minecraft again. usually i have 150+ fps but after the bsod i have around 50ish fps.. which is kinda slow when i'm haulin 219 mods :P

i have included the bsod zip file as in the instruction for posting in this bsod forum.

thx

I've been having this problem for a couple of months, and it's recently gotten to at least 1 blue screen a day, to 1 every other day. I know nothing about the inner workings of my computer, and it can't be overheating because I have my tower in an optimal position with a fan blowing on it.
It always seems to go when I'm listening to streaming music, but this has always been a daily process. I listen to music through the Pandora Internet Radio, talk to a friend on a pixelated 2D game, and I run MSN Messenger to talk to another friend. It's really starting to worry me, I don't want my computer to fail completely on me.
My brother-in-law couldn't seem to help, either, even though he's studied computers for a couple years and he's upgraded his own several times before in the past.
Is it a simple matter of needing to do updates? Or is it something more severe where I need to download this and that to fix it? I'm hoping for the former, but that's why I'm here, to seek help with the issue.

I have just recently built this PC (first build) around the beginning of December 2015 and I have been trying and trying to solve my BSOD issue and I just don't know enough to do it on my own so I am asking for some help.

Anytime I restart/shutdown my PC about 95% of the time it will get hung up at the "Shutting Down.." screen and it sits there for about 10-15min then the BSOD pops up, does its thing and restarts my PC back to desktop.

I have followed the upload instructions and uploaded the .zip file that was created from the instruction page download. If needed I can upload the much larger (~600mb) MEMORY.dmp that was created as well from the BSOD.

Having problem where shutdown ends with the Windows shutting Down screen appearing for 20-30 minutes, then a BSOD with STOP 0x0000009F, in ntoskrnl.exe.

I was living with this for a while, but recently noticed cpu is running near 100% most of the time with SYSTEM at like 45% and SVCHOST.EXE about the same. Any extra activity like auto updates by any module (win update or avast update) brings system to a standstill... Tried stopping all update behavior, but then noticed the constantly high CPU.

Wondering if there's some driver problem causing both problems. Ran updated Spybot, and MBAM scans in addition to my Avast anti-virus, so think I don't have a virus.

Uploaded the info from SF Diagnostic tool.

Appreciate help with what to look at! Thanks so much for anyone's help!

Hi eric95204.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall Daemon Tools at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Next go to https://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx .... Try the Intel Driver Update Utility. If it offers any update to Intel USB3 / xHCI, get it.

When done, upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
Download and execute Driverview
View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
Edit > Select all
File > Save Selected Items
In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
Zip the .txt file and upload it.

Hello
My laptop is a Dv7-3165dx running Windows 7 home edition. Service Pack 1 64-bit OS . when i start up my computer, everything is fine it loads up i sign in and the desktop loads up with no problem.

i've had a problem where my laptop would not respond when closing the lid, shutting down, restarting, hibernating.. but not so much when i did hibernate it so i have been doing this for the past year. it would turn to a blank screen after it says shutting down or any of the other ones and it will stay on, the fan will turn into high gear(speed up) and the laptop would get really hot after this. i would have to press the power button to turn it off.

Sometimes while im just doing some easy task like on chrome, the laptop will stop responding, not even the task manager will come on, i would be stuck on a blank screen when i press CTRL ALT DELETE and then a message couple moments later " Failure to display security and shut down options" so i would have to power off, and start it back up fresh.

It was only yesterday that after when it was not responding that i tried to restart it, logged off, was shutting down, it took about like 5 minutes of hanging before i got the blue screen DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. I looked into it and on Bluescreenview were athrx.sys+b280b ntoskrnl.exe+e96c2 in red. i updated my drivers and i shut down couple times with no problems then when i went to shut down later on i got another blue screen but this time its only ntoskrnl.exe+e96c2. ... Here's a link to the instructions for posting BSOD info: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

This BSOD looks like it's blaming your Rt64Win7.sys driver - a component of your network driver. I would suggest visiting the website of the manufacturer of your network card to download the latest Win7 drivers.
Once that's done, uninstall the current drivers and then install the freshly downloaded drivers. Then monitor for further BSOD's.

I would also suggest updating/removing these older drivers as they are known to cause BSOD issues on some Win7 systems:

Quote:

Code:

snapman.sys Fri Oct 06 09:43:53 2006 (45265D99) - Acronis True Image Snapshot Manager driver - http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html#snapman.sys

Here's the summary for the dump file analysis. Notice that there's no mention of the network driver. I've highlighted the mention of it (in RED) in the following full copy of the dump file analysis:

I've been having trouble getting my computer to properly restart or shutdown. I'll try to separate pertinent information and please feel free to ask for more details.

The problem:
During shut down or restart the computer will have a BSOD. This always happens during the screen that says "Shutting Down," and will happen about 10-15 minutes after this screen first loads up. It doesn't make a difference when I try to restart either because the computer still goes through the shutdown process and it seems to be triggered by that.

Other observations:
Since this problem has started, I've been having a couple other issues.
1. My antivirus (Norton 360) would sometimes not load up after start up. I have to manually open the program in order to get the icon to load up in the Tray. I've since added the Norton 360 shortcut to the Startup Folder to insure that the program opens after startup.
2. I have a built-in finger print scanner that also stopped working as well. This was more of a gradual process where it would work occasionally, but after several more shutdowns, the scanner won't even allow me to unlock my computer with it.
3. Just to be super clear I haven't had a "proper" shutdown and restart since late October.

Note: In the file the BSOD dumps from October till now are relevant and essentially all the same.

A:BSOD during shutdown/restart, error 0x0000009f "DRIVER_STATE_POWER_FAI

The BSOD is blaming to your WiFi adapter, Intel Centrino I guess.

Go to Intel Download Center. Take the Intel Driver Update Utility and get any possible update for Intel WiFi.

Let us know the result. It will be needed for there are some other things which are most probably factory bloatwares contributing to the issue. So we should monitor the situation after updating the wifi driver.

Also upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.

I am getting BSOD when my computer tries to shutdown or restart. This just started a few days ago even though I have been having shutdown and restart problems for the last few weeks (The computer goes through the shutdown screen, the screen turns off, the drives sound like they shut off, but the power does not go off, the power button light is still on and the leds are still lit and I have to hold the power button for the computer to turn off).

I have a ASUS K55A laptop (Core i5-3210m, 8GB ram, 1 ssd, 1 hdd that replaced the cdrom) that is running Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

The BSOD leaves the following information:

When I game (WoW, BF BC2, CoD MW2, L4D2, etc), my computer crashes. It could take 10min into it, or an hour. It doesn't give a BSOD, which is weird (because I have the setting set to not restart on system failure), but it goes black, or a screen with white lines horizontally. I watch my temps, volts, and fan speeds and nothing is out of the ordinary. Everything is on auto/default, as in i'm NOT overclocking. Here are the links to the components:

Hi hussar and welcome to SF

No, I don't think your problems were caused by the use of compressed air.
So far it seems, all but three crashes are blamed on your Graphics driver

Hello folks!

I've been having some graphical glitches with my cursor and random freezes for about a week now. Graphical glitches include low resolution cursor - coupled with low color depth, and the cursor not clicking where it is graphically represented on the screen. Another issue with the cursor is unresponsive clicks.

The freezes are at quite regular intervals and doesn't seem to be triggered by high cpu or memory usage.

Yesterday it also began failing to shut down properly, being stuck on the logoff screen for a long while, eventually resulting in a 0x9f BSOD.

I believe it might be gpu-related, possibly a NVIDIA driver issue, but to be honest I don't have the know-how to identify and deal with the situation safely and accurately. Any help is greatly appreciated! System specs are in my profile info, if it's necessary.

Hello,

I have an Asus N53SV running windows home premium 64bit. I have been having BSOD problems for the last year however recently they have been occurring much more frequently. I have looked through a lot of threads and tried a few different programs. Also googled the stop codes to no avail of a solution.

So I am hoping here that someone may be able to help me!

The Problem:

When my laptop is running, is will become very hot and I can feel the very warm air coming out of the vents, the speed indicator is sitting at 2.90Ghz constantly so I try to shutdown to stop it, however shutting down screen displays for 5 - 10 mins then i get BSOD with stop code 0x0000009F.
It originally used to happen after i disconnected laptop from HDMI but now occurs randomly as well.
It never happens during use, only on shutdown.

Attached is zip file as instructed in the sticky thread.

Looking forward to your help!!!

(Have tried BlueScreenView as well if that may help?)

Hi as I mentioned in the title my PC restarts randomly, usually it's infrequent, but today it restarted twice when I clicked Delete an email. This is what is showing in Event VIewer

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000008e (0xc0000005, 0xbd0d20a2, 0xb1720304, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini092211-01.dmp.

CPU: Intel P4 3.0Ghz
Motherboard: Asus P5GD1 - UAYO
Ram Speed, size and #sticks: 4 Kingston DDR Ram 3200 512MB each
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 7800 GT
PSU (do not leave this out): PC Power and Cooling 700 Watts
OS: Windows XP SP3

Hopefully someone knows exactly what is the problem from those encrypted bugcheck errors.

A:Random PC restarts bugcheck event ID 1001

Your error code is 0x8E and these are almost always caused by hardware (and a good indicator of bad RAM) but sometimes they can be due to faulty drivers.

In your case the Nvidia driver nv4_disp.dll was specifically cited as the cause of your crash.

I suggest doing the following...

1. Go to our Download section and click on Utilities and then download Driver Sweeper 3.1 to your desktop screen and install.

2. Download the latest diver(s) for your video card but don't install them.

3. Uninstall your video card drivers and reboot your PC into Safe Mode. Run Driver Sweeper and remove ONLY the video card drivers. I had someone use it on their chipset drivers! If it doesn't find any video card drivers that is quite okay; just leave all other drivers alone.

4. Reboot and install new video card drivers.

Just turned on a new HP notebook with Window 7 Home Premium installed.
Installed ZoneAlarm, Folder match 3.4, and NetBean. Then it crashed with following message:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000009f (0x0000000000000003, 0xfffffa800459da20, 0xfffff80000ba2748, 0xfffffa80041f5980). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 120609-19422-01.

I have seen people mentioned the the error is typically caused by Device Driver, but in this case, all the devices and drivers are coming from HP, which should have the latest...

Any ideas to overcome this challenge?

Thanks,
Lian

Hi there,

I've been getting some rather random crashes, after trying all the usual troubleshooting I thought I had solved it by replacing the GPU but it has just reared its ugly head again tonight. The screen goes black randomly during gaming, no particular title or anything meaning I have to reboot. The event log mentioned this after I rebooted:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000133 (0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000501, 0x0000000000000500, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 022615-4796-01.

As per the instructions in the sticky I've attached the DM Log collector Tool zip file.

Hope you can help.

Thanks,

Mark

A:Black Screen Crashes while Gaming: Event Log 1001 BugCheck

Hi Mark & Welcome to the forums ^_^,

I have analysed your dump files and below has been provided an analysis of the same for informative purposes :-
DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION (133)
The DPC watchdog detected a prolonged run time at an IRQL of DISPATCH_LEVEL or above.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000000000000, A single DPC or ISR exceeded its time allotment. The offending
component can usually be identified with a stack trace.
Arg2: 0000000000000501, The DPC time count (in ticks).
Arg3: 0000000000000500, The DPC time allotment (in ticks).
Arg4: 0000000000000000

So, it seems that a driver exceeded the time limit allotted to it. Let's check the stack and see if we could find something.

Hello, I've been experiencing seemingly random crashes and auto-restarts of my computer that started a couple months ago. When it crashes, the video feed to my monitors stops so they go dark and say no signal and any sound that was playing begins stuttering; after about 10 seconds my computer restarts, so apparently there was a bluescreen that I could not see and the delay was windows saving the crash dump.

The problem is that the crashes are completely random; well, not completely, they only occur when I'm playing a fullscreen game, never when browsing the web or watching videos. About a month ago I freshly reinstalled windows 7 on a spare hard drive; hoping the problem was somehow related to 'garbage' and a fresh install would fix it. It stopped... for a while, and then started back up again.

I did some googling recently, found that someone with a similar issue had fixed it by upgrading their drivers; did so and found several including mobo inf and related were very out of date. That was about a week ago. When Skyrim was released on the 11th I did a marathon gaming session that lasted about 30 hours (yeah, I know) with zero computer issues whatsoever.

Then, yesterday afternoon I started playing Skyrim again.. and it crashed again randomly about 2 hours into my play. Crashed again about an hour later; and then this evening it crashed like 10 minutes into my play session.

I have configured a server with Windows Small Business Server 2003. I have set it up to run using a workgroup and not domain. Now periodically the server shutsdown on its own listing the above mentioned Event ID which indicate that ;

"this computer must be configured as a domain controller"

Microsoft's description states that this is the cause of the servers operating system integrated setup was not complete. This is the only server on the network and otherwise the network itself has been running fine outside of the periodic shutdowns.

My question is how can this be done now after the fact and what dtepsd must be taken?

Recently, my laptop has started crashing while attempting to enter hibernation. I'll hit the hibernate command, the screen will turn off and the computer will sit there with the hdd light flashing for a min or two then turn off. When I power it back on, none of my files or programs resume and, looking in the event viewer, I can see that the system encountered an unexpected shutdown.

I tried looking through the dump file myself, but finally decided that I had too many questions about what I saw and needed someone who knew what they were doing to give me some direction! I saw that the PRIMARY_PROBLEM_CLASS = 0x9F_3_POWER_DOWN_ndis!ndisMPauseMiniportInner, which means little to me as a whole, but I did recognize Miniport and tried updating all the WAN Miniport drivers I could find in device manager, but it didn't seem to help.

Any help you can give would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have attached the file that the BSOD guide said, but when entering "Perfmon / report", it said "The parameter is incorrect".

I have also uploaded a .txt file with the info that Event Viewer gave me.
