ThinkCentre E73 SFF - Can't access BIOS?

Q: ThinkCentre E73 SFF - Can't access BIOS?

Hi there, I recently bought a Lenovo Thinkcentre E73 SFF, which had Windows 10 installed in it. I decided that I wanted to installed Windows 7 instead of using Windows 10. I decided to go into the BIOS to change the boot priority so that my Windows 7 installation drive had priority over the pre-existing boot drive. In the process, I also recall disabling "Fast Boot", as the PC kept skipping the post screen every time I booted up. It continued to do that even when I was in Windows 10, but I've now got Windows 7 installed, but I cannot find any way to access the BIOS of the motherboard. Can anybody advise on how I'd go about getting into the motherboard BIOS? TLDR - I've installed Windows 7 in place of Windows 10, but I cannot get into the BIOS as the computer is forever skipping the post screen on bootup. Does anybody know about how I'd be able to get into the motherboard BIOS? Thanks in advance!P.S. I wish you all a Merry Christmas!!!

Preferred Solution: ThinkCentre E73 SFF - Can't access BIOS?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

"after powering up"? You select F1 at the Lenovo splash screen just after boot to enter BIOs. If you're not able to get in, you are not pressing F1 soon enough.

Computer will not boot into or past BIOS since BIOS update to FWKT86A  on 5/30/2018, unless dongel from Microsoft wireless key board and mouse is removed prior to start up. With the dongle removed maching boot normally and works with the Microsoft keyboard and mouse when plugged in. Is there a fix for this or do I need to roll back my BIOS?

Hi....... I am hoping that someone may be able to pint me in the right direction.   I have an old IBM Thinkcentre..... I am not sure which exact model it is.  Used to use it in my home office, but moved it out to the entertainment center ages ago and basically use it as a "jukebox" that I have stored all my music into and feed my audio system.  I run nothing else, and it worked fine doing this for years.  Anyway, with a recent update in iTunes, I now am experiencing issues playing back music, as I never have before.   I populated the main board with 4GB of RAM, but when I check in system information...... although it states 4GB installed, it only chows 2.25GB in "total physical memory". I have tried everything I could to increase performance of the resources I have..... disabled what was unnecessary and turned off everything that does not absolutely need to run in the background, but have only improved things a bit.  In doing some research, it was suggested that a  BIOS update "may" allow me to go beyond the RAM limitations of my system.  I figured I would try this out before bagging it and just investing in a new computer. Anyway, I have attached a snapshot of my system configuration.  Can anyone help me find a later version of BIOS?  I have tried searching for it myself, but everything points me back to the Lenovo site, were I cannot find anything.  When I plug in my serial number, it does not find a... Dear fellow community members, I have a huge problem with M83 ThinkCentre. We've bought 80 PCs from a retailer in Germany. All very good condition. These PCs are 2014 release. The problem is their BIOS. It was upgradet to 2016 version and the problem we experience is that whenever we put a GPU in any of the 2 included PCIE ports - it starts, but fails to boot. Same thing on all of them. Do you guys have an idea how to downgrade the BIOS?

I was trying to resolve the famous problem about the ACPI where the workstation will not power off after system shutdown procedure. I tried flashing again the BIOS but something goes wrong and system got frozen. So I powered off the machine and it never boot up again. I read about some procedure to flash again BIOS when that is already corrupted. I tried burning the iso on a cd and playing with Clear CMOS jumper. Nothing happened. Do someone know how it works for that model? That machina have only cd reader, sd reader and usb ports. So not floppy reader like guides for other models says.

I have a ThinkCentre E63z 10D4 model all-in-one.  I attempted to update the BIOS using the Flash UEFI BIOS update (Flash from operating system version).  This seems to have failed spectacularly, as the computer will no longer boot.  It will power on, show the Lenovo splash screen, go to a black screen, then reboot endlessly like this.  I have tried following every guide there is to recover this thing.  I have tried making a USB disk and booting from it, but it seems that USB devices aren't even being initialized during POST.  No lights come on the keyboard at all, and no input seems to work.  I have tried F1, F2, F12, holding down the function key while trying these, and absolutely nothing changes.  I got so desperate that I pulled a CD drive out of another computer and held the thing together with it plugged into the HDD SATA connector on the main board - no dice there either.  Won't even spin up the disk. What am I doing wrong?  How can I recover the BIOS on this thing?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, We've recently purchased some M710s desktops and Crucial M.2 MX300 SATA M.2 Drives. We've installed the drives but the BIOS does not seem to be recognizing them. I see on the board the M.2 port is labelled "SATA4" but I don't see this in the BIOS. However on the startup options an 'M.2 Drive' is an available option but has no label. Is there anything special that needs to be done to enable the M.2 port?

Hello there, I have (for the first time) a problem with my Lenovo ThinkCentre E73. I recently updated the BIOS (it was one of the initial versions and had some issues) to the latest version. I use a KVM (Keyboard Video Mouse) switch. This KVM switch has some USB inputs (for keyboard, mouse, USB stick or whatever) and the USB part is based on a (switchable) USB HUB. But when i connect my USB keyboard to this HUB, the Lenovo BIOS doesn't recognize it (keyboard does'nt work, and the Lenovo shows error 0211, no keyboard connected. The KVM itself isn't faulty, in Windows everything worked fine. Also the previous used BIOS version has no problems with the KVM and works fine also. There where no changes made in the hardware setup. When i plug my keyboard directly into the Lenovo the BIOS recognized it. When i use a simple (non powered) USB hub and plug my keyboard in, the BIOS doesn't detect is again. So it looks like the new BIOS has some issues with USB hubs. Not only my keyboard would be detected, also USB memory sticks are not visible by the boot manager. Can anybody help me, or can Lenovo made a change to the new BIOS version so i can use my KVM again into the BIOS? Thank you!

I'm curious if you get the same result on a front USB port (I'm assuming the hub was connected to the rear.)

Put it back in and plugged everything in again. No change. I looked through the manual and examined the motherboard closely, but don't see a mention of a CMOS jumper anywhere. Any advice?

Good Afternoon, I have about 300 of the ThinkCentre M710q coming my way and I have been trying to setup an automated process to update the BIOS as well as import BIOS settings.  These machines are being setup with Win7 Enterprise and will Legacy PXE boot. So far I am able to update the bios without an issue.  However I am not able to apply settings to the BIOS using the CFGWIN tool.  I am able to capture the settings, but upon restoring them I recieve the error: Restore Failed:  "Secure Boot,Disabled;[Optionalisabled,Enabled;". (MFGDone Set but Password not input or error) These are fresh machines out of the box with no passwords set for the BIOS.  They also have had their BIOS updated to the most current version. Has anyone else ran into this?  I also tried doing the same thing using the SRWIN.exe utility to export to a dat file, an I get the error: The input password is not correct.Return Code 40000001h Please let me know if you have run into this and perhaps found a solution/work around. Thank you!Michael

Hi Lenovo Community, a have an M910q 10MV0012US Tiny. I'm trying to clone an existing OS on an NVMe M.2 SSD to an M.2 SATA SSD (Lenovo PN 00JT082), it appears to reimage successfully to the drive which is showing in the software. However, the drive isn't showing up as a boot option in the BIOS and I can't boot from the SSD. So then I tried reinstalling Windows 10 fresh on it, and it looks like it installed ok and does appear in Windows installation media, but again, can't boot from it. Now, I did read on a forum topic for (I think) a M710, that it only supports NVMe drives and not M.2 SATA. Wondering if it is the same with the M910 desktop. Am I correct in this case, does it not support bootable M.2 SATA drives? If so, let me know. Thanks!

I am trying to update the Uefi/ bios for a Lenovo Thinkcentre M82.  I created a CD with the files and followed the instructions.  The instructions say to reboot the computer with the CD in the drive.  I do this.  However, the computer boots normally to Windows. Since I have never flashed a UEFI/ bios before, I would like to understand a little more about what's actually involved.  Is part of the process to have a bootable CD and boot to it?  Or are we just using the files that are on the CD? If I have to get into the uefi bios and initiate the process through a screen in there, I don't seem to be able to get in there, for some reason.  I tried F1, F2, F10, F12, and enter (each on separate boots).  I also tried to initiate the process through Windows (there is a choice "updated UEFI firmware").

from the "Hello,
I have been trying to add our company's asset tag numbers to some of our m73 ThinkCentre desktops.
The Model Number is S0JV00
BIOS Version is Lenovo FCKT80AUS
Operating System is Windows 10

I recently updated the BIOS to the current version it is now, like I was recomended from the "Help us help you" thread.
"A surprising number of problems are solved by updating the BIOS."
However, after the update, the asset tag option is still greyed out.  I have tried using the CFGWIN.exe comand that came with the FCJW80USA download, like Lenovo recommended but I keep getting
Error: "Enumerate Lenovo_BiosSetting failed. Error Code = 0c80041003"

I also tried AFUWINGUI to try and save the BIOS settings, and then edit them to then re-flash with the updated asset information if that was possible but when I try to open the saved bios file, it opens in wordpad and looks like it is encrypted.

Some sort of step by step process would be the most help, naturally.
This has just been such a hassle.  If there are anymore info that could help, I would be happy to add it.

Thank you in advance.

All,
I have a Lenovo ThinkCentre M57 6072-AUF running Windows 7 64 bit. I got it for a song at a computer recycle center? It was originally a govt of Quebec system and the BIOS is in French. I want to flash the BIOS to update it and to also convert it to English. I went to the Lenovo site and burned the correct BIOS .iso to a disk. The old BIOS version is ?LENOVO 2RKT38AFR, 2/15/2008? the new version / .iso is ?2rj964a.iso?. However, there is no executable and even though I was able to stumble my way through the French BIOS set up and change the boot sequence to CD/DVD first, it will not boot on start up. The flash from within Windows BIOS version on the Lenovo site is an executable, but only supports a 32 bit OS. Is there a separate flash utility that I can use that will allow me to drive the new BIOS flash from inside Windows 7 64 bit? Basic steps would be good, I could never be accused of being a technical all-star. Thanks

I'd recommend going into the UEFI, which replaces the old BIOS standard, and resetting to optimal defaults, which will likely fix the issue. You also should update it, if you have access to a Windows system use rufus to format a bootable dos usb stick and copy the contents of the USB Drive UEFI BIOS Flash Package so you won't need Windows (or a CD) on the actual system to do updates. The current version is 58 vs the 43 you have on there now. By the way you can also use rufus to install Windows to a usb drive for 'Windows To Go' mode which is quite useful at times, especially if you don't want Windows on the system itself. You can download a Windows 10 iso directly from Microsoft's website and via rufus  'Windows To Go' mode isn't limited to just the Enterprise version. CHANGES for 9HKT58A/9HJT58A

Okay so I'm stumped with my work terminal. I'm using a Lenovo M92 (M2121-D5U) and I've been trying for days to extend a third monitor, but have failed at every turn. I have 3 video ports: VGA, DP (and an exchangable third - currently DP). I have all three monitors plugged in, and using my Intel HD Graphics Options, I can switch between 1/2 - 2/3 - 1/3- etc, etc, but I cannot actually get the display to extend across all three monitors. My current System Stats:Windows Version: Pro 10.0.16299Processor: Intel i5-3470TBIOS V/Date: 9SKT99AUS 6/30/17SMBIOS: 2.7BIOS Mode: Legacy I've gone into my BIOS and the "Multi-Monitor Support" option in Video doesn't exist, even when I change from AUTO to the Internal Graphics. Every time that I try to extend the 3rd screen in the native Display Properties I see this error:The display settings could not be saved. Please try a different combination of display settings. But like I mentioned, I know that my pc recognizes all three monitors as plugged in, but it won't allow all three to display simultaneously. Does anyone have any thoughts? - I've gone through the Lenovo Updater and even pulled down the BIOS Flash from Lenovo's website, and as far as I can tell I'm up to date on everything.

(UEFI, Boot Order, Secure Boot Enabled)Then i have used CFGWIN.exe to export my settings to a txt file CFGWIN.exe /c /path:c:\settings.txt Now i want to use this configuration on all other Lenovo computers, without going in to BIOS and change all settings manually. So in my OS deployment i run:CFGWIN.exe /r /path:c:\settings.txt (after that i reboot the computers and continue with OS deployment) But BIOS are not set to UEFI, Secure Boot is still disabled? Please help!

I have a ThinkCentre M93P with a Nvidia NVS 315 video card intalled and it works fine when I get to the Windows 10 login screen but it does not show the BIOS screen during the initial startup. It only seems to work if I remove the video card and use the built-in video. It currently have it set up to auto-select which video graphics to use. Is this expected behavior? Shouldnt I be able to view BIOS regardless of whether I am using built-in video?

Hy, I am new here, thank you for accepting me.
We have couple of lenovo thinkcentre in our school and looking to upgrade the ram.
We tried different rams bought from a shop and the pc doesn't start with none of them, however the shop owner showed us that it is working on one of his pc-s
These are school pcs we are on a low budget.

Replaced 4x512mb to 2x 2gb
When the pc turns on there is the memory error beeepp, tried some solutions found on the internet.
It was recommended to upgrade the bios,i looked all over lenovo forum and could not find bios os not even reference to our model number.
I will attach a picture if anyone can point me in the right direction please

The BIOS version shown in your photo shows that you are at the latest version, see below.

I believe the systems back then required "single" density rather than the now more common double density memory chips.  This may not be of help, given your school's budget, but may point you to some memory that will work, Crucial still has memory upgrades available for M55 type 8811.

Hi everyone,In our company, we implement images of operating systems by sccm task sequence, we also update the bios during implementation. After updating M920z to BIOS version M1MKT33A (with the command: Flash64.cmd / quiet / sccm), BIOS has updated, but all settings have been restored to default state, and information in wmi has also been cleared: System Machine Type and Model Number Number, Chassis Serial Number, UUID System, Brand ID System, Chassis Asset Tag Number. The problem has repeated on 2 computers, so this is not a single problem.Has anyone encountered such a problem?

I was updating the BIOS for my M910x Tiny via system update, the program just started then suddenly some system notification popped up and my mouse wouldn't move, as the BIOS upgrade window under Windows 10 also seemed frozen. I know it was my fault that I didn't wait long enough but just pressed the power button to shut down the machine, so when I power it up again I can only hear repeatedly 2 short beeps and the system couldn't boot anymore. So is there any solution I can fix the BIOS? I've seen the Clear CMOS/Recovery jumper method on other model, but not sure what is the correct procedure on M910x yet. Thanks for any help!

I encountered this problem and was lucky to find the solution on this forum. To help others, I am making this new post with more detailed info.

Problem: you wish to update the BIOS (for whatever reason). You either do not have a CD-Rom (disc drive) in your machine, or it is not working.

Solution: locate an external disc drive, or better: install (even if only temporary) a CD/DVD drive: there are lots available for free from anyone who deals with computers.

Reasoning: the "flash using Windows" method is risky. I used it, because the drive that came with a "new"(used) computer was inop., and I didn't want to stop, find one and swap it out. The BIOS flash routine failed before completion and  therefore did not initiate a re-boot. The end result was that the computer would start, but hang after the BIOS loaded and went to boot the OS. No method of starting would work. {Described in this post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkCentre-A-E-M-S-Series/M92p-no-longer-booting-after-BIOS-update/td-... }

Rant: the text file detailing the "Flash with Windows" utility should include a specific warning that flashing within an OS is inherently _RISKY_! It should strongly recommend using the "make a CD-rom disc" method. Furthermore, the instructions for recovery from the Hardware Maintenance Manual SHOULD BE INC... Read more

I see a lot of documentation about running BIOS updates in SCCM with the WINUPTP bios exectuable.  Unlucky for me the M710q seems to use flash2.exe.  I can't find any documentation on exit codes, or successful run sequences.  I've got 200 machines I need to flash by task sequence for quick deploy.  Can anyone help me?
