T540p - Unusual? internal mike symptom

Q: T540p - Unusual? internal mike symptom

I have a T540p that I am having unusual issues with the internal mike with. It first showed up when attempting to use Skype and the internal mike would not pick up my voice. All settings, both Lenovo and Skype, were checked and are set to the recommended ones. In the course of troubleshooting this with the Skype audio panel open, I noticed that if I ran my finger across the top of the screen border where the camera and mike pickup are located, the Skype sound bar (green bars) would enlarge to the right as if it were picking up sound OK, but when I would use my voice, nothing moved on the Skype sound bar.

When I have the Windows sound app open, I can also see green bars appear on the mike indicator when I speak, but again, nothing seems to go out that is picked up by the mike.

Any ideas to resolve this would be welcomed.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My internal display just stopped working for no reason with Windows 10. The external monitor still works fine though.I checked the Device manager, the internal display had disappeared from the Monitors section, only my external monitor was listed there. It had happened twice. I brought the display back the 1st time after I uninstall the monitor driver and re-installed the latest driver from Lenovo website, but this time it's already with the latest driver and the same trick did not work.Luckily I still have a clone image of the system with Windows 8.1. Once I switched back to Windows 8.1 the internal display worked fine so I think it has to be a driver issue. The display adpater is Intel HD 4600. The internal monitor is the original HD display that came with the laptop. Please help.

Hi Paulgti,
Welcome to Lenovo Forums.
Consider updating the Intel HD Graphics from the Intel Website. Also, check if display fine when you connect with external monitor.

Hi community, we are using several Thinkpads for years mostly without issues. But for a while now we have to experience issues with our T540p's in combination with pro and ultimate docks. And lately we also run into the same issue with a T570.Here our configuration, there are two external displays connected to the docking and one of them is the primary screen. And this is the issue: When we undock the T540p, the internal display should switch to be the primary and only display, but it doesn't. It seems to be that the T540p is still thinking to have external displays connected. The internal display is all black but I can move the mouse pointer from the right into the screen and can also move it out of the screen by pulling it downwards. All windows are opened on the virtual screen, which means I cannot see any configuration windows to change display behavior. Pressing Fn+F7 and up or down arrow blind does not change anything. It does not matter if I undock the T540p while it is running, or if I shutdown the system before undocking. When this error occurs it also does not matter if I connect an external display to the T540p directly, I still cannot see anything. To set the internal display to be the main display before undocking does not change the behavior anyway. If I put the T540p into the docking again, mostly everything is fine. The two external displays are running as before. If it was a desktop PC that would be fine but it is a notebook and we need to carry it with us an... Read more

This is carry on from a problem i was having with a long pause between post and loading - http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/680047-pause-between-post-loading-screen.html

experienced something else just then when i turned my pc on.

firstly i turned it on and nothing was happening on the monitor... i kept turning the monitor on and off and then after about 30sec -1min i heard a beap from the machine (the one you usually here when it starts up) and then it started...?

secondly, after that i shutdown and then restarted to see if it would do it again... this time the normal beep happened on time and then started up... it went past the post screen and then the windows loading screen started to fade in and then stopped half way, so you could barely see it on the screen... stayed like that for quite a while before it continued to come clear and then the bars started scrolling...?

what on earth is the deal with this PC!!!

Hello out there. My computer has had one weird thing happening to it lately, and I'm hoping someone can help.

A random task pops into my taskbar, with the tiny icon showing the white box with the blue strip on top of it. It only sits there for about a second or two, and is gone too quickly before I can hit ctrl+alt+del and see what the heck is going on. Even when I leave the Task Manager open, I can't seem to catch what the heck it is before it's gone.

The task appears twice every hour or so, maybe more, I'm not really sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First post so if I'm in the wrong place forgive me. And above all "Thank you" in advance. Programs stop responding, can't update drivers, Prob reports and solutions doesn't work, windows update doesn't work, event viewer has a task image corrupt error(something to do with WMI), But first of all the, not responding thing is also a runs only one time deal. I can install a program(mainly anti-virus or malware programs) run it once but the next time it either freezes, doesn't respond, or yes, even dissappeared. No way to do system recovery because my hidden drive or what ever it is is also missing and my CD Rom drime is no longer recog. Guys I'm at wits end and so is Gateway. Help me please!!

A:Not responding is just one symptom

Hello RngrMark,These issues are possibly related to the infection you are experiencing and which you posted about here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/227578/w32virutasc/Because you have this log posted, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a HJT Team member, nor should you continue to ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer. From this point on the HJT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the HJT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the HJT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. I am new to this forum and although I saw other "Google redirect" topics, my problem has other symptoms that go along - they could be unrelated, I'm not sure. I have Windows XP Pro and had previously installed McAfee Total Protection 2011. About 2 weeks ago I noticed that anytime a google search is done and the link clicked, it shows "redirect" and "Jump" while bringing up the link and then takes me to a completely different site, unrelated to what I was searching for. In researching this, some websites stated to disengage or uninstall McAfee first before scanning for malware, but it will not allow me to uninstall it. Anytime I either try to bring it up or uninstall McAfee, I get a window stating "Navigation to this website was cancelled"...as if I was trying to go online. I've had terrible luck in the past with fake AV software and I'm not sure what to trust to do the job. Also, systems seem to be stopping. My internet access stopped as well as sound. Investigated that online and found that going into services.msc showed almost everything was disabled. I had to change a bunch of things to 'automatic' and 'restart' them to get them working again. I fixed the internet and sound problems with that. Right now I also see that all the McAfee listing shows disabled - maybe this is the reason I can't bring it up?

These problems seem to be compiling so I am desperate for help. We've had so many... Read more

My laptop in the past day or so has been acting up, first it started with repeated pop ups of AVG alerts telling me AVG has detected a threat. Also several times in recent days I've had stubborn files refuse to let me delete them, even using unlocker and/or safe mode. I suspect I picked up a virus of some kind when downloading a movie the other day.

The latest symptom is that my laptop has been acting like my internet is running slow - or not at all - REALLY slow to open web pages, etc.. At first I thought it was my internet but I checked my desktop pc which is connected to the same router and it is accessing internet at normal speed. So whatever is up with my laptop, the symptom as of today is that it makes it appear that my internet is running slow, even though I now know that it is not.

Advice and suggestions most welcome!
PS. Oh, and my laptop seems to be functioning normally with regard to all offline activity, ie., accessing files and folders in a normal way, not running slow or anything... just trying to work online is painfully slow. HELP!

Hi Kenny1,
In order to receive any help here, you should read this first, and follow the simple directions.
Everyone Must Read This BEFORE posting for help in this forum. Have you seen this after 161 posts?
It calls for only two things:
Run the Sysinfo program and copy the results
Describe what is happening with the machine that caused you to seek help. (You have already done some of this.)
Those two steps are necessary for a helper to begin.

The services.exe file has been blowing-up to ridiculously large (2G) Memory usage/VM Size every time I start my 4+ yr old pc (running XP). While ramping up and back down over a ten minute span, it virtually freezes up all other activity. I noticed this two months ago. In the last couple days it has been preventing my anti-virus from loading and shutting down my computer before stabilizing at "normal" Mem usage/VM size. (Today, in an effort to back-up files I had to re-boot 4 times before my system stayed powered up. )

In the last ten days I started getting other viral activity: Task bar is hijacked (turning grey/white from normal blue) after start-up; Web search results are being redirected; Most audio functions have been crippled. I hear system sounds only; Spoolsv.exe Mem Usage/VM size now randomly spiking and freezing up other applications until I go into Win Task Mgr and kill it (temporarily suspending my ability to print)

I'm here to attempt virus removal but am seriously considering wiping hard drive clean and reinstalling windows (from partition, though I should have access to a Windows Boot disc). Would value your advice on pro's & con's of re-install vs virus/malware removal.

I'm helping a lady try to figure out whut happen to her ip address she has a e machine and runs xp and she took it to best buy and after alot of money thay couldn't fix it . thay said someone stole her ip address made her click run and type in config something and a black box comes up and she types in ip something and nothing happens i do that same thing on my laptop and numbers come up and stuff shes just trying to get on line and cant because of whut ever happened please help Ty.

Nobody can "steal" a person's IP address thus preventing them from using their internet connection. Is she using dial-up or broadband? Are the drivers for the modem or network adapter installed and working properly? What does the ISP have to say about this?

I've heard some not-so-nice things said about Best Buy, but I'm going to hope that this woman totally misunderstood what they were telling her and that they did not, in fact, actually say to her that someone stole her IP address and that's why she can't use the internet.

Hi. i had windows internet explorer when I went to the internet, with my toolbar of Edit, File, Favorites, etc. The Yahoo sent over some "updates" and now I have "Windows Internet Explorer by Yahoo", with no toolbar, no favorites, etc.

How do I get back to my original site, and remove Yahoo as my automatic log-on page?

First off, never take the default installation option. You should be able to go to add/remove programs and uninstall the toolbar.

To get the home page back, just go to where you want it to be, then go to tools/internet options and set that as home page.

And I'm not sure why you have a subject title of mike but that is hardly descriptive of your problem to get anyone to look at your post.

I've spent hours and hours reading through this amazing forum after my computer was infected yesterday.

It started with a pop up alerting me that Windows Security Center had automatic updates turned off. I couldn't turn it back on, then I noticed two flashing shields with an X in my taskbar. Meantime, boxes kept popping up with dire warnings about spyware, malware, etc... and recommended an Antivirus program. I tried to close the box by clicking the X, which I now understand might have launched the program, because I got this fake scan window with a long list of Trojans.

I have McAfee security suite and ran a scan and one thing was detected which it quarantined.

However, when I got on to the internet (I have Windows XP and use Internet Explorer), I kept getting redirected and pop ups for ads kept popping up. Some were impossible to close. I knew I was in trouble.

I used my son's laptop to research the problem and read many posts on this subforum from members experiencing similar symptoms where it was advised they run Malwarebytes.

I got on to my infected computer and was unable to get to the bleepingcomputer website to click on the link for Malwarebytes to uninstall Antivirus2009. I manually typed in the url to get to the instruction page and was denied with a page from Google indicating the link was broken. On and on. Finally, I goggled malwarebytes and got on in time to download the program.

I've tried Windows security essentials,AVG free, G-Data Anti-Virus and Malwarebytes(although now something has disabled it and won't re-install properly). One will announce it's cleaned things off but then the next days new ones are back. I tried G-Data's full security suite but it kept sending windows showing "behavior modification" on any of the startup programs and then kept repeating the same ones without end. Firefox started allowing pop ups from sites like: "thedailyheralds.com,www.news4online.net and www.newsline-17.com". I blocked cookies from these but new ones appear. The latest syptoms were that any time any .exe program was started an error message with Famiweki.dll appended to the programs file name would appear saying that it wasn't a correct image. I eventually searched for Famiweki.dll and found it in C:\WINDOWS\system32. I erased it and that problem has stopped for now. My problem is a little complicated. My network components are as follows:

Server: Windows NT Server 4.0
Clients : mixture of Windows XP, Windows 98, Mac OS X,
AntiVirus: Symantec Corporate Edition 8.1 (constantly updated 3 times weekly)

Since last week, my office network seemed to get slower and slower with each passing day. It got worse and worse each day, so bad that even network printing seems to take ages. Internet connectivity is so slow its frustrating.

Looking at my network switches I can see quite a lot of broadcasts going on in the network (based on the blinking lights). I checked with Ethereal and, indeed, there were a lot of ARP broadcasts going on (about 7-15% of the total data transactions). Problem was, the broadcasts were coming from random PCs in the office! I tried listing down the source IPs but found myself listing ALMOST ALL the IPs in the office.

Thinking it was the work of worms, viruses or spywares, I worked overnight and cleaned EVERY SINGLE PC in the office. I used updated versions of Stinger, Trendmicro free virus scanner, and Spybot Search & Destroy to carefully clean each PC. Sadly, even this does not seem to solve the issue. I still see ARP broadcasts and the network is STILL very slow.

Can someone PLEASE advise me what to do... I'm at my wits end.

A:Is this the symptom of worm activities in a network?

Sorry did anyone is the office plug in a cable to the switch which creates a loopback connection in return which creates a broadcast storm in the network.

Recently been having computer freezes at all points of process, from startup to surfin the net.
Only corrected by a hard restart

However today after a few freezes, I had to do a few hard restarts, it starting freezing more constantly to the point where I could not even get past startup. And on top of that, if I did get past desktop and start surfin the net, not only would it freeze but would start flashing from desktop to a WHITE screen every few seconds.

At first with the post desktop freezes I figured it was some type of software viciously attacking my computer, but now im an leaning towards a component cable that wiggled itself loose or something.

The first thing I noticed was that Firefox was getting redirected when trying to check on a Google search results but I didn’t pay any attention to it. I left my computer for a bit yesterday and when I came back it had the “Security Center” virus running on it. I unplugged the internet cable.

Malwarebytes was able to remove it or at least shut it down but the Firewall was still down. I found something on a site about this virus and I was able to get the Firewall back up, at least it acted like it was normal but I could not use Nero to burn any disks to back-up my data. I ran AVG and Ad-Aware but they had no luck. I connected to the internet to try and update but Malwarebytes is unable to update.

This morning when I turned it back on the Firewall was down again. It is still disconnected from the internet but I had already loaded HJT. I will be posting a log in a moment.

My laptop is doing things I've never seen it do. And, I don't mean in a positive way. I didn't realize it but the Kaspersky Internet Security 2015 I had, stopped protecting my computer because the membership expired. I immediately turned Kaspersky off and downloaded AVG Free version for now.
The computer is showing several signs it may have a virus or Malware. Currently I can only get Google Chrome to load, as Internet Explorer and Firefox won't load. The computer is at a crawl and has been for several days now. Two days ago when I turned the laptop on, it opened about 10 home pages of Internet Explorer before locking up. I couldn't get IE to open any further than the home page. I have several programs you folks had me download early last year to clean the computer up, but I don't know which one if any I should run first so I'm turning to you guys for help! Thank You!

A:Malware Spyware kind of symptom on my PC

Dear Team,Please reply. My PC has worm.win32.netsky virus.===========Hello While we understand your frustration at having to wait, please note that Bleeping Computer deals with several hundred requests for assistance such as yours on a daily basis. As a result, our backlog is quite large as are other comparable sites that help others with malware issues. Although our HJT Team members work on hundreds of requests each day, they are all volunteers who work logs when they can and are able to do so. No one is paid by Bleeping Computer for their assistance to our members.Further, our malware removal staff is comprised of team members with various levels of skill and expertise to deal with thousands of malware variants, some more complex than others. Although we try to take DDS/HJT logs in order (starting with the oldest), it is often the skill level of the particular helper and sometimes the operating system that dictates which logs get selected first. Some infections are more complicated than others and require a higher skill level to remove. Without that skill level attempted removal could result in disastrous results. In other instances, the helper may not be familiar with the operating system that you are using, since they use another. In either case, neither of us want someone to assist you who is not familiar with your issue and attempt to fix it.We ask that once you have posted your log and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your thread or make further replies unti... HELLO ALL.. I am a newbie..

I am new at all this virus/worm stuff. never had a real one myself. I have done searches on this forum but there is soooo much to read, I found myself getting off onto other topics just to see what happened!

I have a couple questions really, first I'll start by saying, after reading many posts here, I downloaded the two most referred to programs, "Spybot" and "Adware6" But then I saw something about a "spybot worm".. so do I install this download.. or not??

next.. the REAL reason I am here.. a friend gave me their computer to look at and see if I could figure out what was wrong with it. I thought it had that new virus because the only symptom she told me was it "froze".. (I thought it was rebooting) anyway.. upon starting it, the only thing I found that was weird was it was slow to start up.. but her desktop picture was VERY ODD!

when I talked to her tonight, I asked if she had a "RED SCREEN with a BUTCHER KNIFE" as her desktop picture and she said, "NO.. I had clouds"..

so.. I am assuming this is a virus that changes her desktop.. and if so.. that is a pretty good indication as to what virus it is..

I can't download anything because she says when she tries to go online or check email, it freezes on her, and it won't move.

I hope this is something that you guys can help with... by the looks of this forum, and the posts.. there are some really helpful and "... Read more

After running for a little while (eight hours or so), my computer develops problems with displaying webpages in both Firefox and IE and sometimes folders in Windows Explorer. The symptoms vary, but usually involve the background getting all messed up and repeating if I start scrolling on my mouse wheel, particularly if I do it quickly. One clear symptom is the transparent shut down menu: http://www.petaimg.com/uploads/1222607776.jpg

Windows was recently reinstalled but the problem continues.

Hi Massapequa,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

This will help show you how to fix the stuck undeletable email message problem in Windows Mail for all folders.

Installing the Microsoft KB941090 update will just fix the problem for now. You must stop the cause to prevent it from happening again. Read the section titled "FIRST" in this tutorial about antivirus and security programs to help prevent this from happening again, then install the KB941090 Microsoft Update in the section titled "SECOND" to fix and be able to delete the stuck message from the problem folder.

Until I input via the 1/8" pink socket the headphone output from a tape deck all was well! (It did not work incidentally). Now the mike is not recognised.
Can anybody assist? Have I caused serious damage?

A:Mike not recognised.

Who's Mike? ; )

I assume you mean "Mic" (short for microphone).

Computer audio ports are 3.5mm ports, not the much larger 1/8" jacks used on home audio gear.

Anyway, I think you are saying you connected the headphone output of a tape deck to the mic input of the PC. In which case the mic input was likely blown. Mic inputs use a line level input.

What is the make and model # for your laptop? Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc Right click the devmgmt icon in the search results and Run As Administrator. In the Device Manager any device with a yellow mark is a device that needs a driver. If it doesn't say that it is an Unknown Device, then it will be listed in a category. Go to your computer manufacturers support/download driver site and type in your make and model # and download the driver for your device. If you don't know, download the Chipset Driver and see if that helps.

You may be able to get some antiseptic wipes from a pharmacy, they are only slightly damp, but a wipe of the mike handle and sound head, if metal, should be OK, if a foam head, I wouldn't be sure about a damp wipe on that.

Incase your wondering the reason why I use what I use.

To be totally honest, I'm not sure. I got Norton for free so I'm just using because why not, after it's finished I'll use Windows Defender. SpyShelter is pretty good and would work fine alongside Defender I feel.
Also, I use EMET because it's free and it works, but I might switch to MBAE in the future because MBAE has some features EMET doesn't have, saying that EMET also has some features MBAE doesn't.

I'm a beilever in disk encryption. I would encrypt it down to hardware level, it would be a lot faster but unfortunately, I think I just can't be bothered.
I frequently take my laptop with me to my high school and use it there on their network, and while thats good it also poses as a risk. Serveral people there, at the college level have actually gotten work stolen, which is really bad considering it's a school!

I don't worry about though, as long as I've got good passwords, use encrypted web connections and have my firewall set up correctly. You can't actually use VPN's in the school network, so that's not a possibility.

A:Multi symptom crash blocking logon. Please help!

Just to close this thread out:
userinit.exe had been removed from the machine, possibly doing a virus scan while booted on a ubcd4win cd. When I put it back in, it booted into Windows fine and didn't auto log out.
(The virus had also changed the wallpaper with a nasty message about being infected). Virus scans reported a number of infections most of which AVG quarantined. The ones it couldn't were related to system restore files-and AVG kept reporting them infected. That would explain why doing a system restore didn't work-this pesky virus infects all system restore points so you can't eliminate it that easily.
Assuming the virus was still stored in the system restore files, I turned system restore off to delete the files, ran a scan and then turned it back on.
Although that appears to have solved the problem, I'd appreciate hearing if anyone else has had a similar problem.
