Yoga 730 no battery threshold

Q: Yoga 730 no battery threshold

I just bought a Yoga 730. I noticed that the Lenovo Vintage does not have the battery threshold in the hardware setting. How do I protect my battery from over charging or keep charging the moment I plug in the power adapter? I don?t want to just use 10 to 20% only and the battery start charging when I plug in.. battery will spoil due to the cycle of charge thing. help.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,I have a P40 Yoga since November. And since then I've struggled with a persistent trait. The annoying battery threshold. Not even using the Vantage tool can I sort it out... I can't even get it to stay on the same values. In some cases it goes up to 85%, others until 71%, currently though, it nestles at 54%. It's driving me nuts and I have no ideas left on how to solve this.I understand that there are a lot of people using laptops as desktops, plugged in to the power sockett all day.But I bought a laptop because I need mobility (photoshop/illustration on the fly), and this is just ridiculous. Can someone provide some insight?PS - Not my first lenovo. Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone! After a month of using Ubuntu on my Yoga 2 Pro machine i realized that the battery is degrading when the laptop is continiously connected to AC.Dual boot with Windows is not an option - because to change the battery threshold you have to make a reboot and keep the space for windows on your ssd drive. So what have i done - i studied Super I/O registers values while enabling/disabling different Yoga 2 Pro management features like battery threshold, quick charge and usb charging and wrote a simple program which allows you to change this feautres from Linux. Find the project here:https://gitlab.com/mikoff/Y2P-PM/The program can set up different Yoga 2 Pro power management features and read their status. It was tested on my machine under Ubuntu 15.10. Please note that you have to be root to run the program.

I just installed Kubuntu 17.10 on my Lenovo 15" Yoga 720. Searching for battery charging control I found this thread. I've downloaded and run your utility but so far the battery charging has not changed. Can you give me a pointer to where I can find which port is used to control what on the 720 so that I can verify that the values are being written to the right ports? Thanks - Eric

Hi there, I have a question with regards to power management for my Lenovo thinkpad x1 yoga 3rd. I tried finding a solution to be able to manage the charging threshold points myself. However, anything I found points to either old solutions (Lenovo Companion, Lenovo Settings) or it doesn't seem to be fully working for my device and environment (Windows 10).I have ended up installing Lenovo Vantage from the Windows App Store but I notice that:- it takes a long time for the app to start (several minutes)- there is no "Power" menu item under HW I am not sure if the app is compatible with my device? For example, the Update System Drivers function doesn't seem to work at all. I triggered the same and the hour glass indicates gathering information but nothing seems to happen (I waited for more then 30 min).  So, as I usually work off the power supply and only seldom on battery, I want to be able to limit charging of the battery to a max of 80 or 85%. I found some instructions on tweaking registry settings but all they did so far is showing the battery icon in the task bar (but maybe that came with the Lenovo Vantage installation, I can't be fully sure).  I read several posts that the threshold settings are not necessary for modern / new systems but being an electrical engineer and having read up on the Lithium Ion Battery charging issue, I beg to differ! Unless the battery is calibrated to show 100% at a "true" 85% charge, charging the las... Read more

Not sure where I'd submit a bug report, has anyone else experienced the following? I have my charging thresholds set to 80% in Lenovo Companion for my T470. However, it seem like half the time it will end up charging one or both batteries to 100%. What seems to happen is it charges to 80%, and it might sit there for a little while, and then a battery creeps to 81%, at which point it then gets charged to 100%. I'm assuming the code behind the threshold portion of the program is saying if charge == threshold rather than if charge >= threshold to determine when to cut the charging off.

My P51 battery is set to start charging when below 80% and stop charging at 95%.  (Lenovo Companion> Hardware Settings> Power> Battery Charge Threshold> Start Charging When Below 80%> Stop Charging at 95%).  I have my P51 plugged in all the time.  The battery always stays at 95% charged, it never reduces down to below 80% and then automatically recharges back up to 95%.  Obviously the P51 will run the battery down when unplugged and then when plugged back in it will recharge back up to 95% capacity and stay there. My older T530 had the same settings as my new P51 does but it honors the charging perameters  set by the T530's Lenovo Companion's Charging Threshold....The battery charge gradually reduces to below 80% and then it automatically recharges back up to 95%...Thus "exercising the battery".                       My question is two fold...1.  Why doesn't the P51 perform the same way that the T530 does using the same Charging Thresholds?2.  Isn't it beneficial for a Lithium Battery to vary it's charge vs. staying charged always at the same level? Curious...Altoid666

My guess is that the power management works the same.  Probably, the T530's cells are slowly losing charge over time and when it gets below 80% it charges.  The new battery cells probably lose charge also, but MUCH more slowly.  When it gets below 80%, it will charge.  If you want to vary the charge level, unplug it for a few minutes, occasionally.  I think Lithium cells degrade over time, but I think the degredation speed has more to do with ambient temperature and number of recharge cycles.

It's great that Lenovo Vantage cares about the lifespan of our batteries and offers us a choice of charge threshold.  But it offers no guidance what maximum level to set, except that it should be less than 100%.  Lenovo must have studied the effect of maximum charge on battery lifespan, and I wish it would share that information with us.  Higher maximum offers a convenience for most users, but they might be willing to trade some of that convenience for some increase in battery lifespan.  We need data in order to decide.  For example, does even setting the maximum at 95% have significant livespan advantage vs. setting maximum at 100%?  Without knowing such things we're just bumbling in setting battery charge threshold.

Hi! I have X1C 5th 20HR. I was using it with the Windows 10 Pro which came built in. I was using it with the battery charge threshold option (95%).After that, I switched to Ubuntu and clean installed it. I tried to change it (charge threshold) also with Ubuntu, but I failed. The battery was only charging up to 94 % all the time. I was okay with it.Yet, after several months, I had to change back to Windows. Now I have Win10 Pro again, but this time, whenever I try to set up a threshold, it is set for several seconds, and after that, it turns itself off automatically. I tried it like 30 times already with a different threshold, with different levels of battery charge, almost with an empty battery, but no result. Is this behavior expected? How can I fix it? I will attach my attempt as GIF file

Hey guys, my IdeaPad U41 shipped with Windows 8.1. My work, however, requires me to use linux as my operating system. I got to choose which distro I wanted to use though, so I went with openSUSE. The problem is, that I can't figure out how to set or unset the battery charging threshold. It is currently set to stop charging at around 60% to preserve battery life. Since I'm going on a trip tomorrow, I need this limit out of the way as fast as possible. Does anyone know of an easy way to achieve this in openSUSE (tumbleweed)? I know that some Lenovo machines ship with linux by default, so I figured there ought to be a way of doing this... EDIT:So, I spent some more time, googling the issue, and foud this tpacpi-bat-tool. It is targeted at ThinkPads and I wondered if it would work on an IdeaPad as well. I hesitated trying it out yet since I don't want to mess anything up.Any help is greatly appreciated. (I couldn't find a BIOS option or anything.)

I have a T470s with two batteries where one discharges before the other. I was wondering if there is a way to set a threshold for when the laptop would move from using battery 0 to battery 1. The problem is my battery 0 has gone through much more discharge cycles than battery 1 (I think 20 to 1) and I want the laptop to switch to battery 1 when say the battery 0 reaches 40%.  Any advice would be great. Thanks

Hi,  As it is not good for the durability of a lithium battery to be charged above 80% , and unplugging the power once the laptop reaches 80% charge is not really an option: I am wondering if it is at all possible to set the battery charging threshold/limit/maximum to 80% for an HP Laptop ? (For example by using any software or sepcial setting) So basically a tool that stops the laptop from charging the moment in reaches 80%, in order to increase the battery's durability. Other manufacturers (Samsung/Sony/Lenovo...) offer certain battery control tools in order to maximize the lifespan of the laptops battery. Is there a tool by HP/for HP laptops?  I am sorry if this is a repost or if this question was already answered elsewhere. I use a HP Spectre x360 and Windows 10. Thanks in advance!

I have tried to adjust the battery charging thresholds for my L720 using Power Manager 8. The idea is to preserve the battery by charging only between 46% and 50%. The system accepts these settings and shows them when the pointer hovers over the power manager in the toolbar, but forgets them every time the computer goes into standby or hibernation. This makes the settings pointless. I am running Windows 10 and believe that both Windows and the power manager are the latest versions available.

Hi. I'm having issues with my battery threshold option. I want the battery to stop charging when it reaches 80%. However, it will never keep the setting on forever. I randomly find out that it charges the battery to 100% instead of stopping at 80%. This is most likely to happen when my Thinkpad P50 is turned off and is charging. Although, it is not every time that it simply charges to 100% instead. Can someone help me figure out why on earth it keeps turning the battery threshold option completely off? The laptop will not hibernate unless I Close the Laptop lid. I went into power options in the control panel and set hibernation to be activated when laptop was running on battery and reached low batt threshold of 20%. When the threshold is met, nothing happen.

Tried a different power management plan and configured the hibernations settings similar to the above, still nothing happened.

I dont remember running the disk clean up utility which I hear can delete the hyberfill.sys file which stops hibernation.

I went into CMD as administrator, and used the powercfg command with the

-h on switch, makes no difference, I even turned hibernation off (-h off) and then turned on again, still no difference.

Went into CMD and searched for the hyberfill.sys file in the c:\ file is present, I think its about 2GB in size.

Any ideas?

A:[SOLVED] HP Laptop will not hibernate when low/critical Battery threshold is met

An update, I think this may be battery related or perhaps even ACPI related?? Battery seems to have an issue charging, I dont remember this happening before. The power supply is working because its providing power to the laptop, but the battery wont charge.

Tried setting hibernation to turn on even when power supply is plugged in and battery is at low batt threshold, it still will not hibernate.

Only way it will hibernate is if you close the laptop lid or click on the start button and actually choose the hibernate option which is amongst the restart, turn off, sleep options.

I am a Yoga 700-14ISK user for 2 years. And I had encounter serveral issues with this laptop before (and the service center helped me to fix them) However, now there is an issue I just have now - my battery is draining fast like 1% lost per 2-3 min for light usage (browsing on Chrome or doing my schoolwork either on Microsoft Office or Google Drive) I suspected it was due to my battery wear level. However, as I monitored it, I realised it keep fluctuating (from 19.64% to 42.02%) until I re-calibrate which gives me 38.51% and then 38.71% after a charge to 60%. Is it possible the battery wear level can cause the quick drain in battery?  Is this battery wear level normal? I would also like to point out that I had the battery changed over a year ago and I normally used my laptop for schoolwork and gaming (occasionally now after realising the issue.) I am also going to have an internship (at least 6 months) from July so I am very worried that my laptop can't last long especially its battery. Hence, should I go to a Lenovo service center and request for a battery replacement? Please give me any possible reasons on why the laptop battery starts to drain fast and its battery wear level sharp increase, and also possible solutions for these issues. I would like to know more about it in order to sustain my laptop at least for a year.

Hello brain trust. - I purchased a Yoga c930 for my daughter to use at college and I noticed that after shutting down (using windoes shut down, not sleep mode), the battery will deplete down to around 25% after sitting totally off for just 4 days. I've tested this a couple of times and it's consistent. In addition, it will then fully charge after around 45 minutes on the charger, even though the charge icon in the systray says it will take around double that time I've not used it enough to check the battery life in use, but since my Dell laptop will fire up after going weeks and weeks without a charge, there seems to be something wrong with this machine if it's depleting the battery like that while totally shut down. Any suggestions on what to check or how to diagnose why this is happening?  Thanks in advance

I always used to be an HP customer and thought would give it a go with Lenovo so I got myself a Yoga 910. I am out of warranty, called support and have been quoted $1500 AUD for  anew motherboard which is not even on stock and no one in their right mind would give that sort of money for such a piece of garbage. The symptoms:It started a random day out of the blue. When the battery was around 30% I plugged in the charger and the laptop started acting as if I was periodically at every second unplugging and replugging the DC adapter meanwhile the charging led was blinking at the same frequency every second. I heard the plug in sound and the screen became brighter every 2 seconds. Unfortunately even when the laptop was turned off itwasn't charging the battery at all so after experimenting with all possible solutions with uninstalling and deactivating charging drivers which didn't work my battery was fully drained and now my premium looking laptop is pretty much good to be thrown out. I know it has nothing to do with sleep mode and all or other software related settings. It's not a charger issue because I tried another charger and another power socket as well. It's not a contact issue with the charging port because it's following the same pattern no matter how I hold or don't hold the plug to the charging port. I could  get the laptop to work only through the battery connectors. When the battery is removed then it's just completely dead. The charging led w... Read more
