Webbrowser won't load pages sometimes

Q: Webbrowser won't load pages sometimes

Hi,
I have a very strange error, if you can call it that. It's mostly occurring at random AFAIK, but when it happens it keeps going for quite a while.

The problem is; when I click a link anywhere, the browser(firefox in my case) might decide to not load it. There's no error page, the spinning thingy doesn't even spinn. And it won't load unless I click the correct amount of times(usually more than 2). Too many and it resets the counter.

As this is a laptop, I've moved between school and home, this occurs at both places so I narrowed the search down to my computer.

Posting HJT log, incase you can find anything here.

Preferred Solution: Webbrowser won't load pages sometimes

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Everyone

I am trying to fix a friend's computer. He had 4 trojans on his pc that he found in January and didn't tell anyone. He is running OS: xp pro 1a.......RAM: 512......cant remember the information about his hard drive except it's an AMD.

The error message he is getting is this:

"cannot open web browser, error message "Downloading from site:res//C\WINDOWS\System32\shdolc.dll/offcancl.htm"

I have tried system restore, it will dont work for him, also tried a reinstall of windows, still no go. I tried to run hijack but it will not read from his floppy disk. I will try to save hijack to a cdrom and run it when I go there on Tuesday.

I would appreciate any suggestions that you can give me. You guys are always so helpful. Thank you.

Susi

A:Webbrowser Won't Load

Install avast home edition on your friends pc from a cd rom or jump drive and then run avast antivirus. Get rid of the Trojans then go to firefox and get rid of his IE or Netscape.

This worked for me, but someone else may have a better idea.

I suppose the title says it all, my computer has some sort of infection where every search in google in both firefox and internet explorer redirect the searches to random pages. Additionally, typing in certain addresses simply won't load where I know the page should work, such as certain links on microsoft.com. Furthermore, I have enabled Automatic Updates and it tells me that it is not enabled even though it clearly is in the settings and going to the update page through internet explorer simply does not work. I have read through various other forums here at bleepingcomputer.com and followed their instructions but nothing has fixed the problem so I figured I'd post as well and start fresh. A huge thanks in advance to whomever is able to help me out. So, where do I begin?

hello all

i have started noticing "hijacked pages,"

and that (so far, only when using "chrome," which is outdated - NOT by choice but because i am stuck with windows vista and GOOGLE will not longer support it...),

sometimes chrome will "hang" when attempting to perform operations such as "clear browsing data,

and then if i attempt to close chrome, it will make it so that system processes(?) such as my toolbar, ctrl+alt+del/task mgr, and restart will not work, forcing me to need to manually power off my computer,

and now as of today, most pages are not loading ("err_connection_failed" in chrome, but ALSO IN FIREFOX a lot of pictures in pages are not loading),

so i fear i have malware...

okay, here is the sysinfo readout:

Hi newbie here so go easy on me

My mum has a realtively newly built PC (about 2 weeks old), and has XP Professional installed along with Norton Antivirus 2003.

She is using dial-up internet with an external modem, and although her default homepage (bbc) loads straight away after that browsing becomes progressively slower and slower. Some pages do not load up at all after a while and she is forced to turn off her connection and try again. She cannot access any secure sites at all (for her internet banking and buying things). She has cleared her cache to no avail.

I have been told to see if a firewall is blocking secure ports 443, 84 and/or 8443. I'm not sure how to check that? I'm not even sure she has a firewall installed at all?

Should she try Mozilla Firefox? Should I install Norton?

I've checked her dialup internet provided (lineone/tiscali) and there appears to be no problems?

Help :grinthumb

A:IE 6 very slow loading pages and won't load secure pages

When you say they won't load, what exactly happens? Does it give an error message of any kind or just hang on a blank page?

Our users have IE 7 and 8. We keep them locked into place by pointing IE to our firewall product (tools > internet options > connections > lan settings), so that only approved sites are the ones that our people can access. In the last few days, several of them report issues with specific websites loading very slowly - load times of over an hour just to get the log-in screen to appear.Troubleshooting Steps:1.) Unchecked the "use proxy server for your LAN" under the IE menus---> Site resolves instantly, as it should---> This pointed me to the direction that perhaps the site wasn't configured for our firewall2.) Re-checked the "use proxy server" box, and specifically configured the site in our firewall---> Site continues to resolve slowly, with the same load times as before performing step 1That would normally indicate that the problem is on the vendor's end. Something may be wrong with their site. And that's the line of thought I was pursuing until I was reported back to that the users are having the same problem on other websites. These new websites they're having problems with are, and have been for a long time, configured properly in the firewall.I'm not sure what my next step is to pursue. What am I looking for now? I don't know enough about networking to figure out where to track next.

A:Users are unable to load websites - no error, just 1-hour+ load times for pages

Just started two-days-ago. Mozilla 1.5.0.7 and IE 6.0.2900. I did a system restore back for two weeks to no avail as "nothing changed."

Mozilla and IE, through Mozilla, either takes long to load or no load. If it does load does so without .gifs or some links. Some links are broken. Some will load the login page fine then freeze on the next page.

The perplexing part is that it affects only a few pages but not the whole site: my hompage, Nasdaq.com; ebay.com (after the login page), espn.com takes a while, 240 sec, to load then only partially load.

Network fine, signal strength fine, I've killed Symantec, no difference. Switched to Windows firewall, no difference. Killed Adblock, no diff. Ran Spyware Doc, nothing; NAV scan, nothing.

I'm lost. Anyone have an idea?

Thanks in advance.

Ive been having the same problem. Im with Virgin and they were useless with the advice they gave. Try reinstalling your modem. My line has recently been upgraded to 8.1meg from 2.2 and i think the modem hasnt quite got the hang of it being this quick yet. It seems to work for a while but my line keeps changing. At first it ran at 7.6 and the problems with pages started so i reinstalled the drivers from the disk and it shot straight upto 8.1. Its been a pain for the past few days with some sits(even my homepage of Virgin) so i reinstalled it again and all the pages now come up.

I've just started having this problem and its killing me.

I have 2 computers. My server is running windows 2000 server, and the secondary computer is running xp Pro.

The internet was working fine on my secondary computer, and then one day, it just started becoming slow, and it would not load pages (images wouldn't fully load, some pages wouldn't load at all). If i type in a url in the address bar for IE it would load the page quickly (probably from cache), but then proceeding to click links would cause "Page not found" or "timed out" errors.

I know that i can reach these sites, i ping them and get normal responses. It seems that IE is just not displaying them properly or something. The internet on my server computer works perfectly fine.

I have 2 nic cards in the server computer, 1 recieving the cable modem, and one receiving a LAN cable from my Hub.

Anybody have any ideas? Like i said, it worked on my secondary cmputer before. Also, i hooked up another computer to my hub and the internet was working fine, and then i installed Service Pack 3 and it started crapping out like mentioned above.

This is driving me NUTS!! ahhh. please help.

Thanks

Any help with this problem would be great

A:Some Pages wont load at all and others load fine

Try running a ping to the sites that have trouble loading to see what kind of connection times you are looking at. I would also run a tracert to those sites to see if there are any places dropping the connection.

A:Doesn't Always Connect And Pages Don't Always Load Or Load Right

Hello,

Sorry for the delay, this forum is very busy right now.

There is a program from a company called SearchHelp, Inc. on this computer. Sentry at Home or Sentry Remote. From the information I can gather on the Internet, this is a legitimate application aimed at allowing parents control over their children's web surfing habits. Judging by some of the lines in this log it uses a proxy server and several other techniques to filter internet content. This might explain why you have trouble connecting to some web sites.

If you are the owner of this computer and installed this program, I would suggest disabling it temporarily to see whether your problems persist.

Whether they do or not, post a fresh HijackThis log along with the results of this test.

Do you have more then 1 computer connected to your modem/router? If so, does this happen on them? If not, can you connect a separate one (ex: friend's laptop) to test?

Normally when you get errors like this it's best to rule out a problem at the modem/router and provider before going crazy over trying to fix a problem (that may not exist) on your PC(s).

Also just a couple of other questions:

Who is your internet provider (ISP)?
What connection type do they use (Cable/DSL/Fiber/Fixed Wireless/Mobile Wireless)?
What is the make and model of your router and modem?

There are twenty or thirty sites I visit regularly.

Recently I've been having some problems. Some sites I can visit like normal, but some sites I can't. I get "cannot find server" errors.

I cannot visit 9/10 websites on the internet because of this.

I have run Search & Destroy, Spyware Doctor, HouseCall, HijackThis, and the virus scanner on pcpitstop.com. I've run some of those in Safe Mode as well.

I cannot ping a website with cmd, but if someone else gives me the ip for a site url I can't visit, and i put the ip in the address bar, it will work like normal.

I've tried using IE and FireFox. I'm currently running FireFox (on XP) because I'm concerned about the security of IE during this problem.

I've done a system restore to before the problem but it didn't help.

There are three computers in my house, two of them are affected, one isn't. So I don't think this is an ISP issue, but I could be mistaken.

Is anyone out there familiar with this problem?

Keep in mind that any links or such you provide me I will most likely not be able to follow, because the page likely won't load. If you suggest I download something please provide a direct link to the zip/exe file.

Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone. I've got a very strange problem that just began happening out of no where. When browsing the net I can no longer go to websites such as www.zone.com, I can only check my e-mail when I'm lucky and the website decides to load without displaying "the page cannot be displayed" error message. More than half of the images on everyone webpage display as not loadable little X marks, even on this website. When attempting to open random websites after searching on google for example, more than 3/4 of the web pages I click on give me the "page cannot be displayed" msg instantly without even trying to load. This problem just began recently out of no where. Windows firewall has always been off and never had problems untill now. I run Aluria Security Center and have never had problems. I also have tried adding these sites to my trusted list and it does absolutely nothing. Hope you guys can give me a solution. Thanks ahead of time.

My computer is doing the same thing. Out of nowhere, there's a whole ton of webpages that don't work. I went to read my comics yesterday morning and Yahoo news didn't load. I'm having the same problem in both IE and in Firefox so I'm guessing it's a problem with the computer, not the browser. But I have no idea how to go about fixing it.

Hey Guys!

So, I've run into a bit of a problem. For the past couple of days my Internet Connection seems to be acting strange.
Sometimes i can load pages almost instantly, for example google or wikipedia, and a minute later i have a loading time of above 30 seconds for the same page.
On the other Hand, when I start a large Download and it has to run for an hour or more, it wont abort, even when I can't connect to other Websites in the meantime.

The weird thing is that this happens on every Device in my Network. I've done a ping test in this little "downtime" and half the packages timed out.
Wireshark shows that somehow I keep sending out packages but for like 15 - 20 seconds I get no response at all.

I really don't know what to make of this and would appreciate some help^^
Thanks in Advance!

A few days ago I noticed that some of webpages weren't loading correctly. It was shortly after updating Java. Web pages that I visited like Yahoo, Adobe, and Facebook started to load plain text (no graphics of any sort). The Microsoft site wouldn't load at all until I read instructions somewhere on this forum about enabling secure sites. Most other sites loaded perfectly so I figured it had to be some sort of malware that was blocking me from certain sites. I ran a lot of scans using several anti-malware and anti-virus programs. I ended up finding about 3 trojans that were removed. That didn't solved my problem though. I got fed up and decided to reformat my computer hoping that whatever was wrong with it would get fixed, it didn't. Since I formatted my computer I tried updating Windows but I kept getting an error: "WindowsUpdate_8024402C". Wouldn't work in Normal mode even after I followed the instructions given to solve the error. Figured I'd give it a shot in Safe Mode with Networking, but it still doesn't work. Now I can't access the Microsoft website again. *sigh* I've tried pinging it but my requests keep getting timed out.

After reformatting I uninstalled all the bloatware, and reinstalled updated versions of Java, Adobe Flash Player, and Shockwave (thru majorgeeks as I couldn't download them directly from their sites). I've ran more scans but nothing comes up. I'm thinking maybe there's something wrong with my winsock2 but I'm not touching it O_o. I forgo... Read more

Hi all, can someone please point me in a direction to start? My IE won't open any pages. This started 2 or 3 days ago. The only way I can access the internet is by doing system restore back to the 13th. My connection is fine, it seems to be an IE problem. At the bottom of the page, when it is trying to open it says something along the lines of ieframe.dll bad.

I have no idea what to do or where to start. I would appreciate any help as doing a system restore to get on the net is wearing me right out.

A:Ie Won't Load Pages

Try downloading a different internet browser. Internet Explorer is actually a security risk. If you go to a bad site (keyloggres, virus, etc. they can use your ActiveX controls to access your computer and plant viruses and spyware in it. trust me, i use mozilla firefox. it does not require everything that ie requires, and it is alot faster. download at www.firefox.com

but if u sitll want to use internet explorer. check your firewall it may be blocking access to ie. or, someone may have already have acces to your computer :D

Hey,

I've recently been having a few problems with my Internet Explorer (7) on my home pc. It refuses to load a page - no matter what I try. It always just comes up "Internet Explorer cannot display webpage". If I try to type in a different web address, it redirects automatically to "hhtp:///". (my home page also randomly changed)

It can't be a connection problem, as MSN and Apple Safari both work on the same computer. Only thing is videos don't load, and downloads don't start up at all with Safari.

I'm using Windows Vista, along with Norton 360. I've been trying to uninstall the 360 to see if there was any conflict between windows and Norton, but it refuses to do it. I tried downloading the uninstall thing from the norton website, but it won't begin the download for some reason. I would try just disabling it, but the Norton window itself won't even open so uninstalling it was the only other thing I could think of doing.

Also tried a system restore which didn't work.

Please help!!

Hello,

I recently purchased a new laptop (Sony Vaio F12 with Windows 7) and am having an issue loading certain sites. In addition to the new laptop a new router has been installed (I have little control over this, it's my landord's responsibility but it may have caused the issue).

Most internet sites load fine but here are some examples of ones that simply don't:

http://www.cricinfo.com/

http://www.speedtest.net/

http://www.paypal.co.uk/uk

They get stuck on perpetual loading. What's even stranger is that if I put the laptop in Sleep or Hibernate when I resume these pages will have loaded but if I refresh them they will "stick" again.

I have tried changing the settings under Control Panel>Internet Options and I have also tried IE, Firefox and Chrome and all have the same problem loading certain pages.
Any help at all would be appreciated and if there is any info I can provide which would be useful please let me know.

Hi

Not a PC/MS newbie, but this one has got me really stumped

Not absolutely certain right now what the hardware profile is, as I don't have access to the system directly, but it's an AMD processor (around a 1200) on a mobo with a Crush chipset - I'll do my best to find out more tomorrow

No hotfixes have been applied for a while (at least six months; the last time I was there) - There's no Internet connection as the machine is stand-alone

A client/friend installed the redistributable non-WGA IE7 on their XPSP2 system this evening

Everything seemed to go according to plan, but IE will not load pages saved locally - As there's no Internet connection I can't get them to test whether the problem occurs with online sites as well

Sometimes it does nothing for a few moments then states that it can't connect; other times it freezes altogether; others it doesn't launch at all; yet other times it appears to launch then immediately winks out of existence

I've had them uninstall and re-install it at least three times (maybe four) and after each uninstall, IE6 loads the pages as expected

As soon as they reinstall IE7, it won't open pages again

Both Firefox 1.5.x and 2.0.x load the same pages without a problem

Does anyone have a clue what is going on?

Cheers,

Reg

I am able to check my email, but only on the account I am currently on, so I can't logout or login. When this started: I am getting my internet from the University and they had a problem called Clean Access Agent which stopped working on my computer. Before it stopped working, everything was fine. You have to use this program to get on the internet, but the person in charge of the network decided to patch me in using my mac address. Afterwards, I find I can not load or access the things mentioned above. The school has a lab for Internet problems and they assured me that the process used to get me connected to the Internet would not cause these results. How it was almost fixed: Someone at the lab disabled my AVG's Resident Shield and then started the computer up in Safe Mode. We both don't know why, but this worked and I was able to access the sites even when I logged back in not in safe mode. Then I decided to restart my computer. When I restarted the Resident Shield automatically activated again and I couldn't access the sites. Of course, I retried the process with disabling the resident shield and starting up in safe mode and it isn't working this time.Computer conditions: My firewall is not up, my resident shield is down, and the computer reports being connected up to the network through a cable. What I think is the problem: We... I've tried quite a few different things to fix the problem and none of them have worked.

I have been able to connect to a friends wireless network and everything works normally. So it appears its definitely some kind of problem with the card.

Three days ago I woke up and opened Firefox and AOL wouldn't load properly. I got a list of the links and then if I clicked one it would not load. Sometimes this happens or it just won't load or it would say done and all I would see is a white screen.

The same thing is happening with facebook. My university's sites are working as is google. MSN messenger works but last night I couldn't log into live.com. This morning it works perfectly fine. Facebook worked a bit last night but now it is back to not working. AOL also loaded a bit better when facebook was working last night but not completely. I can use google but some of the sites won't work. It seems completely random except for the fact that it is always AOL and Facebook that won't work.

Sometimes there is a message that says that it could not connect to server or that the connection to the server was reset. I would also get a message on the bottom left of the screen on the bar saying Read static.ak.fbcdn.net when trying to load Facebook.

[Chrome, although probably other browsers too]
This is a problem that has recently been happening very often (about 1-2 times a day) for me.

So basically, I'm happily surfing on the internet and all, until suddenly when I try to load new pages, it gives me a "page not found" error. However, the strangeness does not stop there. When I am on my gmail, for instance, I can still access my email, and I can actually talk to other people! I can even edit various google docs that I have already opened. But the one thing I cannot do is to open new pages.

Restarting my computer typically temporarily fixes the problem, but I'm interested in a solution that ideally permanently fixes this problem, but a tempfix that is less of a hassle than performing a full restart would be nice too.

When I pinged google.com, it successfully reached there with no packets lost.

A:Cannot load new pages

You should check the sites with other browsers and if it's only with Chrome then this article could help.

If it's on all browsers then rebooting the router could resolve.

Hi Guys,

First time caller so forgive me if i'm in the wrong area and/or I don't phrase the problem correctly.

Over the past 2/3 weeks my computer has started to (sometimes) not load pages I have clicked on. It's as if the internet connection has failed (but it hasn't) I'm still downloading and all the correct lights are flashing on the modem. Usually after a couple of clicks I'm back.

I have to leave the website I am on, and then try 2/3 times to get the homepage to load. I have a broadband connection and am running XP with Firefox. Usually after a couple of clicks I'm back.

I don't know a lot about the inside of my computer.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

This is the second time it happens, pages just stop loading well, most of them anyway. Search Engines, even google cease to search (tho if I try to open firefox 3-4 times in a row, sometimes it does work). I tried with more browsers and it's the same thing with all of them, so it mush be a windows connected problem. Anyway I checked my hosts, sweeped my comp with all kinds of anti viruses/spybots/w/e.. but nothing seemed to work. The only thing that worked was a complete format, but I did that just 2 weeks ago for the same problem and I just finished configurating my windows in the way it was before. I already searched if anyone else has this problem and there are tons of pages with same description (pages won't load), but no real solution.

Anyone knows anything? Is this a trojan or what? And how the hell do I get rid of it.

Oh one more thing, no router/network and I use windows firewall, but that didn't cause any problems before (I had it turned off when I was having this problem for the first time)

So any help would be really appreciated!

Cheers, NetSkay

I've recently started having a problem where pages on certain websites won't load. One of the sites is the "Tech Support Guy" (I am writing this on my wife's computer, which is connected via an Ethernet connection to the same router as my computer, so I don't think it is a network problem.) I can get to the Forums page but when I click on a thread it won't load. No error messages, no dialog boxes,--the window just goes blank and the progress bar goes part way and then stops. The same with E-Bay--home page then category page but no individual listings. Yet other sites load instantly and I can navigate them perfectly.
I'm running Windows Me, IE5.5, ZoneAlarm 4.5, PC-cillin, PestPatrol and have run scans with these plus Ad-Aware, SpyBot S&D and SpySweeper-- all currently updated. Neither of these sites are on my firewall or AV blocked sites list. and I don't remember downloading anything recently (although my memory is sketchy,at best!).
I've exhausted my meager store of knowledge, does anyone have any ideas?

I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I am having a difficult time accessing certain websites, specifically school related websites. This is a huge problem considering some of my course have online content that I can't access. When I type the address, I get the standard "We can't find that site". The site loads fine on my housemates' computers, so I don't know what the problem is.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Okay, I'll be completely honest here. I have little to no knowledge of computers, but I happen to really like having mine functional. It's been messing up for a few weeks ever since I made a really stupid decision about downloading something I shouldn't have. We worked on it for about three hours last night, and finally got three Trojans and a tracking cookie off... And everything is great, except for one thing.

There's certain pages - MySpace, Gmail (I had to get on my mom's computer to activate my account for this site), etc, that just WON'T LOAD. They'll load for two minutes or six hours, and the screen is the same - the white screen that usually only shows up for about three seconds. I've gotten my stepdad to look at it, and he helped to get it working again, other than the sites that stubbornly refuse to load. I asked for help on a tech support forum on LiveJournal, and that didn't really help.

So I'm hoping someone here can XD Seriously. If you can help me with this, I'll worship the ground you walk on or something.

Edit: I'm also sure that it's not the connection. My mom's computer works just fine, loading every single page she wants to look at. So does my dad's, on the completely separate network from my mom's. It's mine that's being stupid.

Hello A_Pathetic, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You may have a bad IE7 add-on that is causing this. This tutorial will help show you how to check for this and fix it if it is.

Internet Explorer - Reset

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi there,

2 of the websites I frequently use stopped loading properly yesterday,
all i get is a loading symbol and a blank white page. Firefox tends to lag when they are loading and it sometimes stops other pages from loading as well.

I have tried the sites on IE but they don't load there either.

I have tried clearing the cache, clearing cookies and checking the 'hosts' file.

The two websites are:
Epic Fail Funny Videos and Funny Pictures
and
https://fronter.com/leicestershire/index.phtml

Help much appreciated thankyou!

A:Certain Web Pages will not load?

Loading okay for me, so it's not the websites that are down.

All of a sudden I was unable to use ie 6. IE would only open to a blank browser page and would not accept any input from me. In short I could not access any web page using IE 6.

I do have email though.

I had to install Firefox to access the web and d/l a fresh copy of ie 6.0. This proved to be useless as the same problem was still there. Tried installing I.E. 7 -same problem, blank browser page.

I would be happy to continue with Firefox but there are some sites that will only work with I.E. which are of importance to me.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I'm not sure if this is a software problem, or not, but decided it was the best place to start.
I have an xp, 512mb, 4 yr old computer I am running. or rather was running.
It is basically unfunctionable at the moment.

I had just cleaned it, thru the forums and it was working great. Then it started freezing up. I have 4 user identities on it. At first it was just with mine, and I admit, i have tooo many photos stored and only about 3-10% space left, (I'd let you know for sure, if I could get it pulled up)

The pages will eventually load, in about 45min or more. I was able to get into msconfig and disable all start ups, but no help.

I was able to get into the other user ID's and slowing get around, but now they are mostly froze up also.

I was running avg and super antispyware on it.

I would appreciate any advice about what might be wrong with it and where the best place to start troubleshooting would be.

Thanks so much, in advance

A:Pages won't load

If I remember right, I had decided to get the photos off the harddrive and had downloaded photobucket to upload them to. Then I read that anyone online can access your photos from there and I wanted a more secure site, so I uninstalled it and that was when the major problems began.

My computer won't load pages. I get the usual won't load error page....
What I've tried:

1. ipconfig - I get an ip address, but I'm not able to ping anything
2. release and renew ip address
2. I tried the repair option on the connection
3. I've run system file checker
4. I scanned for viruses and spyware/malware
5. The connection is set to get its IP from DHCP
6. I've, of course, tried different cables and ports. And I'm able to connect using other computers
7. I haven't yet tried Firefox, but suspect it won't change anything
8. I disabled all startup items via msconfig
9. Same problem booting into safe mode with networking
10. Event viewer shows no errors

I think that's all I've done, but I may have forgotten something. Any other ideas that I could try other than a Windows Repair or clean install? This machine has SP3 and whenever I've done a windows repair with an SP3 machine I have problems (which is an entirely different thread, I'm sure) and end up having to do a complete wipe/reinstall.

Thanks in advance
