Preferred Solution: Utility that will delete duplicate address entries in OE 6?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For some reason I seem to have a lot of duplicate entries in my Outlook Express address book. (Perhaps I imported more than once from another mail program?) I am wondering whether anyone knows how to easily remove all of the duplicates without having to go through every single entry and laboriously do it manually.

I have a really neat Outlook Express repair utility called "Outlook Express Repair - ScanDBX" but it doesn't seem to have an option to clean up the address book entries.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!!

A:Deleting duplicate address entries in OE 6.0?

I've always just right clicked on the duplicate and deleted it, which isn't too slow, if you don't have more than 20-30 of them. If there is a neat trick to do all the duplicates at once, I'd like to learn it, too!

None of the topics you posted contain a complete log.I'm going to keep this one: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/307093/browser-sites-blocked-and-pop-ups/ and delete the others.If you can, post a complete log as a reply to the topic I linked to above, and I'll merge it to the initial post. Two of our users are experiencing duplicate calendar entries for reoccuring as well as single appointments. These are 'all day' entries, for example, reoccuring birthdays or deadlines entered into the top 'grey area' of the date. The appointment has duplicated itself to the following day, causing 2 instances. This has started happening for appointments that are towards the end of March only. Any ideas? Thanks, Skyie

xp pro sp3. I am missing some registry entries needed to run system restore. I downloaded a registry patch from Microsoft which has these missing entries as well as some of the needed entries which are already in my registry. Should I a; run the patch as is and thereby create some duplicates, and then delete the duplicates, or b; delete all the entries first and then run the patch,or c; edit the patch to remove what would become duplicates. Perhaps any of these would do the job, but when it comes to registry editing I like to be extra careful. Since my system restore isn't working, I can't make a backup of my registry unless I install some third party program which I don't want to do. esmo

I installed a LinkSys wireless PCMCIA card on a IBM Thinkpad 760XL with Win98SE. All appears OK, except each time I boot up, I get an info panel saying the card has a problem. I hit OK and the boot continues to completion, and the card works fine. I checked the Device Manager and found two entries for the wireless card. One is clean and the other has a yellow ! by it. I can delete the one with the yellow !, but when I reboot, it appears again. I have tried removing and reinstalling the card several times.

Is there anything else I can check to eliminate the duplicate network entries and the info panel that comes with each boot. Also....I do not get the problem with a restart boot....only with a power up boot. ??? Thanks.

I have found a strange anomaly with the PATH after running "cmd.exe": I have duplicate entries.
The computer properties environment variable for PATH does not have these duplicates. Furthermore,
Operating system is Windows 7 64 bit
There is not an AUTOEXEC.BAT file
There is nothing in the startup folder
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment does not exist
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Environment does contain the path info, but I assume this is where the computer properties environment is stored.
msconfig shows numerous startup entries but aside from disabling them one at a time and rebooting, I am not sure how to determine if any are causing the problem.
Any other suggestions for tracking down what is casing the problem?

I have a USB hub with 2 external hard drives attached to it, and an HP printer.

As I understand it, every time you unplug and replug a USB device into another USB port on your computer (on that hub or otherwise) it makes another entry for it.

Right now under device manager under USB controllers, I have 8 entries for USB root hub, 2 for USB composite device, and several for USB host controller and USB2 enhanced host controller (though they are not exactly the same- for example USB host controller has a number after each entry that is different from the rest)

I tried uninstalling everything under USB controllers, in the hope that it would be resolved when I shut down and rebooted, it looks like some of the entries are gone, but I still have the duplicates. I did this mainly so that my hard drives would work properly, as they don't always show up under my computer.

Hi everyone,

We are having a problem here that I have never encountered before. We have a few workstations that have the same entry for the display adapter installed twice. When you click on the one that is listed first and try to disable it or delete it you get a message that says that you can not perform that operation because the device is being deleted. If you remove or disable the one that is listed second whenever you restart the computer it comes right back.

The reason this was brought to my attention is because the users who have this happening have to reset their display settings (screen resolution) every day.

When I go into Safe Mode and look at the device manager there is only one display adapter listed. When I remove it their and restart the computer and log in normally. They are both back with the same scenario I explained earlier.

Hello,

I noticed duplicate entries in Device Manager for Processor (CPU twice) and IDE Controllers (Primary and Secondary and PCI twice).

I read that I should go into Safe mode and uninstall all entries and let Windows rebuild. I did this but as Windows was rebuilding, it repeated the entries twice and and they were all duplicated again.

I built the computer: ASUS PC4-800, Intel P4 3.2, 1G DDR. At another forum, a person had the exact same problem with the same mobo and CPU.

HP Pavilion Vista Premium 64 bit.
I had to do a system restore after having this new system only a few days (shareware supposed to be compatible with x64 wasn't).
After that restore, I restored files from HP Easy Backup. I won't use this again because you have no control over what is backed up or restored. But the files seem to be restored properly, except the Start Menu.
When I go to "All programs," I get the programs including some empty folders for software I haven't yet reinstalled. BUT I also have a folder labelled "Programs" (within "All Programs") and when I open that folder, I find all my program shortcuts repeated.

I checked the User\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and
Program Data\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and neither has that extra folder named "Programs."

Vista won't allow me to delete the folder. I tried to delete a shortcut within the folder but it removed both instances of the shortcut.
Any ideas for this Vista newbie?

Hello All,

I just looked at Device Manager on my Windows 8.1 Pro desktop PC and when showed hidden devices I noticed that I have several duplicate entries for the same hardware. Here is a screenshot:

The only thing I can think of that might have caused this was that I just did a clean install of Windows. When the installation was complete I then installed all the drivers that came with my MSI motherboard and some of these drivers were the same and so Windows makes a copy and adds -1, 2, etc. to the name? If the drivers were duplicated why wouldn't Windows just overwrite the old one instead of copying it? Seems to me that would just fill up the registry with excess entries.

Can anyone tell me why these are there and if it's safe to remove the ones that are hidden? More generally, is it safe to remove hidden devices (duplicates or not)?

Thank you,

Jan

I was slimming down my "Open With" list and discovered duplicates of Firefox for HTM and HTML. I deleted the value for FIREFOX.EXE at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.htm and .html\OpenWithList. When I checked the "Open With" list, the duplicates were still there.
Opened Registry Editor and the values are back.
I checked the keys under HKCR and they are only default.
Firefox is the default browser.
Anyone have an idea of how I can get rid of the duplicates ?

I have a problem with my Boot Menu. I have Windows 7 installed on C: and was the first OS installed. Later I installed Windows Server 2008 R2 on J: (second drive) and could select between them.

I used a program which installed another entry into the Boot Menu and went to get rid of it with EasyBCD and this removed it in it's eyes. However when I check with MSConfig it shows the original entry, The Server entry and then the original entry.

Selecting either original entry boots to Windows 7. However they both appear to be the same entry as selecting either one in MSConfig to delete one clears the delete button. Doing it from the Server allows me to delete it but then deletes both entries.

How can I clear the second entry without killing my boot?

A:Boot Menu Troubles (duplicate entries)

Hello Veldthui,

You could check using OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to see if that may be able to help you remove this stray boot entry. Just be sure to double check the "Description" of the boot entry to help not delete the wrong one though.

I have a folder, called "HG", full of various folder shortcuts which I use as a custom toolbar on my taskbar, system is [email protected] (The very purpose of that toolbar is to let me access HG repositories on various folders). Recently, the folder shortcuts started misbehaving: on the context menu, there are duplicated some entries (7-zip and antivirus), and some entries are missing (by Murphy's law, one is the "HG Repository explorer", which is the very reason that toolbar exists).

However, when I open the Windows Explorer and navigate to the same folder, the context menu on these same items works just fine.

(Bizarrely, if I click on the taskbar toolbar and select "Open Folder", the context menu is wrong even from Explorer).

See the image below: on the top is the "Good" menu, on the bottom the "Bad" one. Note that on "bad" one, I have some entries which are appropriate for a regular file, but not for a folder (Edit with Notepad++, 7-zip:Open archive...).

Hey guys basically i have an ASus ux301la (zenbook infinity) and i noticed that after installing Displaylinks software (port replicator software) my default sound device was called (USB AUDIO) and that my Realtek sound device kind of went missing (no sound devices on the playback tab in the sound settings). so i uninstalled the diplaylink software and uninstalled/reinstalled the sound drivers from the asus site and each time i did so it would create a new sound entry, hence all teh duplicates. Now i still have a problem because although sound works, i have to manually select the correct playback device in VLC player and i cannot see any sound devices in the playback tab on SOUND settings. Hello experts, Hope you are doing well.

I had installed Windows 8.1 Pro. Along with it, I had tried to install Linux with it. After complete linux installation when I rebooted, I was getting duplicate boot entries in bios setup. I have searched on internet and found this tutorial to delete duplicate entries.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...=ws.10%29.aspx

I have deleted the boot entries using this tutorial and restarted but now after restart, it stuck on the Lenovo welcome page and says, Press F2 to enter setup and F12 to enter MultiBoot Menu. On pressing F2 or F12, it says "Please Wait" and nothing happens after that.

Please help me. I am stuck here and my laptop is of no use right now because of this.

Hello My name is Andrew, and I have a weird one.
When I Right Click On certain files I receive 2 open with context menu options.
One works, and the other doesn't.
more specifically, when I right click on a document file I receive 2 of the menus,
when I right click on an "unknown file type" I only receive the one - the one that doesn't work.
when I right click on Mp3's or other known media types, I still get only the one "Open With" that doesn't work.
The Open with that doesn't work Gives me a file association error which makes me think it's a shell issue so...

I have spent a couple hours on ShellExView and ShellMenuView removing all non-microsoft shell menu's and i even un-selected hide standard menu items to see if I could find this duplicate "Open With"
If I do a registry edit, I can remove all the context menu's but that one, which is weird, including the "Open (openas)" and "OpenDLG" Just to see if those were it, I ended up only removing the working "Open" Context Menu to which I have put back.

I frequently change file associations via the properties context menu. Sometimes I open Batch files to edit them with notepad and "Open With" is normally very useful for me. So changing default file associations is not really what I need help with.

Thank you to anyone who responds.
Attached are a few Images of what happens.

Shared folders get multiple listings in explorer, e.g. Fonts, Fonts~1, Fonts~2 etc.

It doesn't matter how often I delete/unshare, they keep coming back. See attached screenshot.

It happens with ordinary shares ans NetworkMagic ones.

Hello, I have encountered the same problem occuring both on the network and in my win7 machine. This is happening on a xp server, and android device as well.

Wish I had an answer but I don't at this time. On the xp server you can just delete the unwanted folders, I have not found that to be as easy on the win7 machine.

I was having trouble with my cheap NIC so I got another one. It didn't work at all so i put the old one back in.

Now Windows is calling my NIC "adaptor #2" and my LAN "local area connection #2." This in spite of my having uninstalled the NICs before changing them.

I've seen this before, mostly when changing modems or whatever in Win98. The problem is now i have -another- new NIC and i want to start clean. There are references all through the registry to my original NIC, the intermediary defective one, and the "#2" that I put back in. I'm just guessing here... probly have 4 configurations after i install my new card.

How can i get rid of all this junk? I'm scared to mess with network stuff in the registry. And none of these are in the device manager, since i unistalled them.

Thank You
~jb~

Hi,

(I have moved this topic from "Web & Email" forum here - not sure how it got there )
I have found a strange anomaly with the PATH after running "cmd.exe". The result I get is as follows:

PATH=

C:\WINDOWS\system32;
C:\WINDOWS;
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;
C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel;
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\;

C:\WINDOWS\system32;
C:\WINDOWS;
C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;
C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel;
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\;

C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MUVEET~1\030625

I put in the line breaks and blank lines just to make it more readable. So as you can see I get two entries for the first 5 paths, plus one entry (MUVEET~) that I would really like to remove.

But if I go to "My Computer / Properties / Advanced / Environment Variables" and look at the "Path" variable in "System variables", I see this:

%SystemRoot%\system32;
%SystemRoot%;
%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;
C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel;
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\

(Again, I put in the line breaks to make it more readable.)

So my question is, where do the duplicate 5 entries come from, and where does the last one come from (the "MUVEET~" entry)?

I did a small test. I changed the path for "MS SQL Server" in "My Computer/.../System variables" and ran cmd.exe, and the path statement showed ... Read more

Perhaps the Muvee~1 entry is from this program:http://www.muvee.com/en/products/

Enviornment variables can also be added through an Autoexec.bat file. Does one exist?

The following list describes the various types of variables in descending order of precedence:

1.Built-in system variables
2.System variables found in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment
3.Local variables found in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Environment
4.All environment variables and paths set in the Autoexec.bat file
5.All environment variables and paths set in a logon script
6.Variables used interactively in a script or batch file

Check your 'Startup' folder for any scripts or batch files. Check in Msconfig.

:D I just did a clean install of xp home on my new Abit IS7-E, P4 2.4GHz, 512MB Kingston PC2700, Sapphire 9600PRO.

I now have duplicate entries in Device Manager showing 2 entries under Processor P4 2.4GHZ and Display Adapter, 2 entries for 9600Pro.

How do I safely deal with this?

Thank You in advance for your help.

A:Duplicate entries in device manager under processor and video card

you sure it was a clean install? (no programs were installed when you rebooted).

Don't know about the P4 but I would think you could delete any double driver entries. If you delete the wrong one then do a System Restore or delete both of them and reinstall a new one.

Hey, I just got 130gbs of music (all legal in case you're wondering) half of it is in artist>album>song format, whilst the other half is unsorted. I also probably have around 20gigs of duplicates which must be deleted from the unsorted entries. What I was wondering, is if there is a program which will do all this for me? It doesnt necesarily have to be free because it will take me about 200hours to sort through it manually in which time i can make a %$#@load of money

I have enough storage space to copy the entire lot again, so what I though might work is this: Search for all the files in these folder using a program which hopefully you will suggest to me, set the "sorted" music as read-only or something similar, and then save it...

this program doesnt need to be "uber-efficient" if it gets through 70% of it, I'll be helped out a lot

Regards,

korrupt

Hi Everyone,

I am using Windows Media Player 12 and I would like to remove duplicate song entries from my Music Library without deleting files from a networked computer.

My challenge is that I have added multiple networked folder locations to my Media Library, and on some of those network drives the same Albums exists.

For example

\\Computer1\My Music
+ Album ABC
+ Album DEF
+ Album XYZ

\\Computer2\My Music
+ Album GHI
+ Album STU
+ Album XYZ

In the above example both Computers 1 & 2 have a local copy of Album XYZ. Because of this every song appears twice in the Media Player Library (and by inference Playlist).

Further to the above example if I open Media Player and perform a search for Album XYZ I then see the following -

Song1
Song1
Song2
Song2
Song3
Song3
Song4
Song4
etc...

I can right click on individual songs and select "Remove from this list" - however this is very tedious.

Is there a way of telling Media Player to only put one copy of each individual song into the Media Library regardless of how many copies of the song actually exist in the Libraries folder locations?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

A:Removing duplicate entries from Windows Media Player without deleting

Open WMP 12
Click File >> Manage Libraries
Choose media type.
Remove all locations except the one you want WMP to use for adding to it's library.

I suggest you delete all existing libraries first, then start afresh by setting up the required media locations as above.

User Info: Lotus Notes 6.5, WIn 7
Server Info: Lotus Notes 6.5
I'm not sure if I can make this clear enough to understand, so I will appoligize now.

We have a user who recently noticed that a recurring meeting request will show in his calendar only for those that have replied to the request. His orig calendar entry is not showing, but there are, lets say 5 people that have been invited, it will show 5 "accepted" meetings in his calendar.

The first time he noticed this was earlier this week when we were experiencing other server issues. When he closed lotus and reopened it was fine. Then yesterday it did it again showing only the accepted requests, and not the orig.

We are 3 companies within a short distance to each other, and hope to soon have all 3 running the email off 1 server, which is currently running Notes 7, rather than 6.5.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a reliable and safe duplicate file finder utility that maybe identifies " EXACT DUPLICATES " and maybe even color codes them for removal. Something that at least tells you the ones that are safe to remove. I have a Dell Computer, Home Edition, SP2, 120GB HD, 2.8GHz processor, and 1024GB of Ram. I appreciate all your help in advance.

I have been transferrring files between an 8TB External and a 4 TB portable drive. So I have a lot of duplicate files and folders between the directories I am storing them in on both drives.

How can I compare the 2 directories and find the duplicates.

(different directories on different drives)

CC Cleaner won't do it (at least not the free version)
