Revoked cert problem

Q: Revoked cert problem

I recently read that a Netherlands CA, DigiNotar, had been hacked so updates are coming out to remove it from the CA list but that it should mostly affect Iran. So today I got an error message trying to access my bank (neither it nor I have any connection with Iran). The error message said "Peer's certificate has been revoked".

It seems too much of a coincidence for this to be unrelated so my question is whether the problem is wider-spread than the article said, or did one of the updates revoke a wider range of certificates than was needed, or did I just get unlucky?

Does anybody know what's going on with this problem? Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Revoked cert problem

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If anyone knows how to repair this problem I'd be very appreciative. I can access the site just fine from FireFox but unfortunately the site has some features that are only accessible from Internet Explorer.

I am at my wit?s end to resolve a major issue I have with Windows Vista: when I try to use the browser to purchase items on-line, I frequently get ?certificate has been revoked? with no option allowing me to bypass it and go through with the action.

I have gone into Internet Options/Security and tried re-setting the security as low as it will go, to no avail.

I even had this happen when I tried to sign up for Instant Messenger ? I downloaded everything, careful to use the version recommended especially for Vista, but when I went to establish a screen name, I got that ?certificate revoked? message.

The sites I am having the problem with are not fly-by-night merchants ? it is places like Amazon.com, etc.

******************

It is a few hours after my post and I, on the advice of someone tried the following, but the problem is now worse than ever - I can't even log into "My Google" homepage!!!

? On the Security tab, reset each of the zones to their default level.

? On the General tab, in the Browsing History section, click Delete. On the Delete Browsing History window that opens, delete your temporary internet files and also your cookies. When you do this, you may find that on some sites you need to reenter your username and password.

? On the Content tab, click the Clear SSL State button to clear the current certificate state.

Close Internet Explorer and then restart it.

Hey guys

Trying to access my works email, can do it through webemail.bdts-training.co.uk and every time I do that, or hit "Sign in" On front page of Google and attempt to sign in I get a screen saying it's been revoked. Now I can access it on any other machine it's just this particular one. I google'd the problem and found 2 solutions, first was to set the correct time.

Now the time wasn't correct on the machine it was set Jan 7 2010, but I changed that by updating it with the internet so it's the correct time, that didn't fix it.

I then went into Internet Explorer 8 > Tools > Internet options > Advanced > Unchecked the options that say something like "Check for publisher certificates" and that didn't fix it. I then removed everything under security and IE would barely worked. I checked my anti-virus, Sophos and trned off anything I could find to do with that and that didn't fix it. Really stressing out over this and I bet it's something simple.

Btw i'm running Windows XP SP3

Any advice would be really helpful! Here's the message I get, there's no option to continue:

Good Morning ATA'rians.
Due to a "communication gap" our ATA servers certificate (which is used as ATA Center certificate) has been revoked by the provider. Now the ATA Center service cannot start and thus I am not able to change the certificate within the configuration
GUI. Is there any way to edit the ATA Center configuration without using the web GUI or is there anything else I can do except for a complete re-installation? Is there anyway to reuse the "intelligence" in the existing MongoDB so that the ATA will
not need to learn everything from scratch again?

the end user has IE6, XPSP2. no-body else has this problem so it must be an issue on the remote PC, anyone have any suggestions?

When I'm using Google chrome, I cannot go to site with "http://". And following someone else's advice, I checked the public keys for Google and Facebook in the certificate information and they both shared the same public key beginning with 30 81 89.
It started when I plugged in my external hard drive.
Also, I do not know if it is connected but windows firewall gives the error "Windows Firewall cannot change some of your settings. Error code 0x80070424" when I try to start it while windows defender gives the error "the specified device does not exist as an installed service. (Error Code: 0x80070424)"

I also attempted to install Microsoft security essentials but it gave me the error message "error: 0x800b0001"

I attempted to do a system restore but that failed too.

Right now I have no idea what to do other than just format the whole thing. An y advice on what I should do?

I have a customer site with about a dozen PCs and on the same day they all started getting a popup when opening IE. The popup is labeled "Security Alert" and says "The security certificate for this site has been revoked. This site should not
be trusted."
I've scanned with Malwarebytes and with AVG business AV and nothing is found except for a few PUP registry entries. Sometimes after scanning the popups will stop for a while but they always come back.
No popups are seen when using Firefox or Chrome and it doesn't matter who is logged into what PC, the result is always the same. IE has been reset more than once. CCleaner has been run more than once to clear out temp files and cache.
The only common thing I can think of is that I believe the day before this started I deleted the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager software from their domain controller. They had been migrated off of SEP for about a year and have used 2 different
managed AV products since then. I have found no trace of SEP on a PC which is what I expect. It was just the manager software on the server (which has been disabled since SEP use was discontinued) which was left.
Why uninstalling that would cause these security popups in IE on the PCs makes no sense and I have to believe it's just a coincidence.
The only resolution I've found by searching is to disabled checking for certificate revocation in IE. But I'm not going to do that as I don't think that's a good practice a... Read more

I must have a really nasty malware problem. I first had troubles when I couldn't obtain an ip adress - either wired or wireless. I tried some ipconfig business and winsock in cmd prompt u nothing worked. I have repeatedly tested with MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware and Avast AntiVirus - all coming up empty.

Today I got frustratd with the lack of conectivity and tried to go into Safe Mode to see if I could root out the problem. I was not allowed in - I kept getting blue screen's of death. I now can get into safe mode but I can't use any system restore points and there are numerous other problems that suggest some sort of interference.

First off, there are strange error msgs I get when I boot up. One has some thig to do with an Installsield and an exe at a really long and convoluted adress for a directory. Then I get a msg about eRecovery failing which is built in to my Acer laptop. Then I start getting registry change notifications from spybot that don't reflect anything happening in the compuer....There's defintiely something up and I 've run a battery of tests. Hey, im just wondering if ne one knows the answer to this:
(since there are 2 parts to A+ cert.)
I took the old core hardware A+ test, 220-301, last summer, and i have school so i didnt take the other one. Now i want to take it the other half (OS), but there are new A+ tests now, so im wondering if i take the old OS test i still get the cert? Or is it useless? Or do i need to write both new ones?
THanks

A:A+ cert

Likely yes. Ask them. It all depends on whether they gave you a time frame by which you had to take the second test?
How much did you spend for the test taken? Did you pass well with a good score?

Hey all,

We've just set up a Cisco 3000 series VPN on our network, and are using an internal server here as the certificate server for the VPN clients.

Just one problem. I'm still fairly new to doing new things on Windows 2000.

So I've been going through Microslop's site trying to figure out exactly how to set up the certificate server here. But I haven't found anything which explains everything, or if I need to install something, (besdies Cisco's VPN client) on the client computers.

I've created a couple keys through Certificate Server, but have no idea how to go about using them, or how to view the keys like in NT, like;
---------
dsfjsfhajalf
asfsfghsgjhf
2klg4hjglufi
lashg9hgw
---------
You know, that big encrypted key.
So if anyone knows a quick explanation of this, or where to find a description of what I need to do, I will be forever indebted to you.
Thanks.

We have a working DA environment using a single server, we are planning to go NLB  and Multisite but MS advises not to use a self signed cert for NLS which we currently do use.
I have created a Web server cert for our NLS server following the below issued by our internal CA
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/remote/remote-access/directaccess/add-to-existing-vpn/step-1-configure-da-inf-davpn

I add the NLS cert on our DA server, click next and then go to apply the DA settings.
When I do this it says DNS name does not exist. I can create this manually before adding the cert but it gets removed. If I tick use self-signed cert the DNS name gets created automatically.
I can't understand what I'm doing wrong and why DA will not accept our CA issued NLS cert

I installed ATA with the self signed certs as i was having trouble getting it to work.  Now that I have it working i want to put a real cert on the management site.  What is needed to complete this?

Do i simply go to iis and change the cert?
Do i also need to change it in the configuration page where it references it by ip address?
When i do that, do i need to redeploy / update the gateways?

I am on 1.6 as of an hour ago.  Please reference the version number you are familiar with in your responses.  I would imagine that they are the similar if not identical but i want to be sure we are on the same page.

Our Nessus vulnerability scanner has been flagging our computers with the following vulnerability: SSL Certificate Signed Using Weak Hashing Algorithm

Basically what it's telling us is that we need to upgrade the local Remote Desktop Certificate from SHA1 to SHA2.

These certificates are self-signed and self-generated by the local machine. If you look at the certificate you'll see that theIssued to: and Issued by: fields show the name of the local machine.

The question is: how do these auto-generated, self-signed certificates, which are currently SHA1, get upgraded to SHA2? Remember, these are not created by the local Enterprise CA, they're auto-generated by the local machine itself for Microsoft-branded software such as AD and RDC.

Looking for ideas/suggestions on how to do this.

Hey guys,

I have a few questions about how Windows 7 handles checking the internet for new certs and CRL's. We are looking to run Windows 7 Embedded in an offline configuration that still relies on creating a secure SSL negotiation with an in-house web application.
We're exploring options such as opening the our network's firewall to allow outbound access to GoDaddy\Microsoft CRL's and Microsoft's cert repository that it can get new Trusted Root certs from

1. When and how often does Windows check for new root certificates?
2. When and how often does Windows check the CRL's for cert revocations?
3. What websites does Windows look at for Microsoft's CRL and cert repository?

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm getting an error msg on my own website after installing my Verisign SSL Seal. Certificate itself works fine, but the seal (click here to verify) is giving errors on one IE browser and not another.

Can you guys please help me by telling me if you see an error msg displayed on the IE information bar when you visit my page:

http://applesofgold.com/test.html

I'm getting an error with my new Verisign SSL cert on my computer at work but not at the one at home. Using IE on both computers, same version, v. 7.0. I don't get this error on FireFox on either computer.

The error I get is:

To help protect your security, IE has blocked this website from displaying content with security certificate errors.

I don't understand why it's showing up on my work computer and I'm hoping it's not showing up on other people's computers.

I would love it if I got a lot more computers checking to see if they get the same error.

Please help!

Thank you,
Afshin

A:Verisign SSL Cert Error on IE?

I did not try the link but I will offer a few words of advice though.

You do not want to go into any restricted sites at work and should wait till ya get home but if you cannot do that then here ya go.

Open IE7

Click Tools
Click Internet Options
Click the Security tab
Click the Internet icon
Click Custom level
Locate Display mixed content
Click the radio button next to Enable (the default setting is 'was Prompt'
Click OK to save your changes

Have fun!

Hi,
This is my first post related to computer virus disinfection.
I believe I have reasonable computer knowledge and I always steer away from viruses and malware infected websites.
I have lenovo G550 system, running windows 7 professional 32 bit. But recently my computer somehow got infected with a virus/malware which have made my computer almost unusable and the only solution I can think of is the clean reinstallation of windows.
The symptoms are as follow:
1. Windows services i.e internet sharing, firewall, security essentials, system restore and windows update stopped working.
2. Even though my user account is the only administrator account, I no longer have administrative access.
3. Unable to download files through internet browsers i.e firefox, chrome, IE10. Virus check fails and the file is then deleted.
4. Cant sign in to online accounts anymore i.e Youtube, webmails, facebook, twitter. Cookies are not accepted.
5. Google chrome detects Sirefef.er virus/malware and suggests cleaning with Microsoft security essentials.
6. Can't not burn dvds error message, windows unable to complete format.
Solutions tried:
1. Thorough virus scans with AVG, Kaspersky and Malwarebytes antivirus to no avail. All failed to detect and fix problems listed above.
2. TDSSkiller scanned and seems fixed cookies issue for now.
3. System restore always fails to replace files.
Kindly suggest something to restore windows services and guide through the removal of viruses and malwares.
Thank you,

I have similar issues with my XP. But more. No administrator access, any files or program I try to go to,I must right click twice and open, and that isn't to say i always get in. I can't always download because of an error "Co create instance failed Ox80040154 class not registered" When I do get a download, it doesn't save and no icon is made either. It shows in the list but is empty.. The downloads are crazy and won't exit or close and pop up when they want to while I am working on my PC. I have no IE anymore, it has been blocked or deleted and chrome is hard to get into. Registry scan says all is ok. All of this began when my audio driver stopped and showed no audio device. I started looking for free downloads everywhere and must have picked up this bug exploring and searching. Can't fix it! help! Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Tamj

Chrome decided to change the way they handle SSL certs and apparently the common name is no longer enough to pass validation.  So i am scrambling to change all of our SSL certs that we issue from our CA.  Because of this I have to update the ATA
web interface cert.

When i go to the ATA console and select my new cert, my gateways sync up and when i try to activate it, it says activation failed.  I saw in another post to check a log file and here is my result.  Can anyone give me any info on what is going on
here?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I want to use a smart card for authentication without a CA.
I kind of wonder if I can use any smart card of my choice (gas, groceries, credit) as an authentication device.
Can WinXp read the card, confirm my request to use it, and drive on?
Again, I want to use a self cert, or un-cert, card, a one-off card, as auth for my laptop.
Any suggestions?
