T480 Monitor flickering in Visual Studio

Q: T480 Monitor flickering in Visual Studio

Hi,my laptop monitor starts flickering an a regular basis as soon as I start Visual Studio. Not always and not only with VS but very consistently. I know that there were some unresolved flickering issues last year, so I wanted to check if there are any updates. This is a deal breaker for me. It seems to related to the software (e.g. visual studio) and somehow to the scale setting of windows. With the recommended "200%" I get it very consistently in VS. With "175%" it seems to be better for now.At two occasions my display flickered very heafily in VS and then shut down. Had to close and open lid to get it running again. I have updated my BIOS to the newest version (BIOS Version/Date LENOVO N24ET44W (1.19 ), 07.11.2018)Display drivers too. Intel: 24.20.100.6344, Nvidea: 24.21.13.9836Resolution is 2560 x 1440 x 59 hertz with 200% scale. Both the "recommended" settings.System Model 20L5000BGE BR Matthias

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello everyone,

I have a question about the visual studio .net 2002. Is there any downloadable patches or upgrades to support a file that is being written / coded from visual studio .net 2003 to visual studio .net 2002?

My friend and I discovered lately that when you create a project (e.g. vb .net win app) in vb.net 2003 then save it and you want to open it again but in vb.net 2002, the project you created using vb.net 2003 cannot be opened using vb.net 2002.

On the other side, when you try to create and save a project in vb.net 2002 and you try opening it in vb.net 2003, there is really no problem, cause vb.net 2003 will convert a project (a message will prompt you and will give you a choice if that project should be converted) that was save under vb.net 2002.

Anyway, is there any updates of visual studio .net supporting projects that was created on vb.net 2003 and opening those project(s) using vb.net 2002?

Any help is highly appreciated.

A:Migrating Visual Studio .NET 2002 to Visual Studio .NET 2003

i had this problem the other week (downloaded an article from codeproject or codeguru, but wouldnt load in 2002), im not sure of any patches that will fix the problem, but there is a work around if you dont mind altering certain project files.

The problem is with ProductVersion within the .csproj files, they are different between 2002 and 2003. If you alter them to the previous version they will then loadup. You may also need to alter the .sln file as well (again compare a 2002 ver that loads and the 2003 ver). Not giving any promises about it working, but it did work with the project i had.

I guess it would be quite easy to write a little utility that would go through a project and alter the said files. Dont know how many people would find use of it though.

Ok, previously to get something from a database to a variable in a web based app the code went something like this:
DataAdapter.Fill(Dataset1)

after the dataset had been filled in this way a variable could be set by

variablex=dataset.tables(0).rows(0).items(0)
Now, after converting the project and all associtated files I've got SQLDataSource to use.

So, after lots of fruitless searching I'm asking just how the above statement translates to work as a means of retrieving a field from an SQLDataSource?

Hello!

I am trying to install Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 from the following link.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/down....aspx?id=48145

I pick the x64 version, because that is what my computer is. However, after downloading, when I try to install it by running the program, the progress bar fills fine until the very end, where it freezes. This is shown in picture 1.

When I press cancel, a quick box opens up asking if I'm sure, and when I click yes, the screen looks like what is shown in picture 2.

And so I click on the log file, and it shows me this:

Does anyone know any way to get a list of the dll's that are installed by each version of SDK, Visual Studio, and Visual C++?
It looks to me like the rasman.dll on my wife's computer is linking dynamically to some api-* dll's that are not on in her System32 folder, but which are all in mine. We have identical computers that we bought at the same time, in the same store. The api-*
dll's that are in her System32 folder are exactly the ones that are listed for Windows 8.1 in the article for KB2999226, but my System32 folder has dozens of other api-* dll's, including all the ones referenced by rasman.dll. Looking at Programs and Features,
I see that the versions of Visual C++ on her computer and mine, are not all the same, so maybe it's one of those that installed those dll's on my computer. Surely there is some way to find out what dll's are installed with each version of SDK, Visual

Hi there
I'm just messing around a bit with Visual Basic - I just want to use EXCEL (mainly) and a couple of really simple Windows stuff. I can't be bothered with C# or .NET -- I'm not (nor intend to be) a professional programmer -- but would like to have a go with some small applications and get to grips with the Basic in EXCEL.

I've got the old Ms Visual Basic 6 disks -- is it worth while messing about with these on W8 (Ms believe it or not is going to support the platform through W8 releases !!!) or should I just bite the bullet and download Visual Studio express which seems a bit overkill also for what I'm really trying to do.

As I'm running a 32 bit version of Office it would seem that most of the VB6 stuff could run quite simply in EXCEL 2010 (32 bit) even though my OS is x-64 --or I could even run it in an XP VM.

Any suggestions as to which is the better way to go -- I just want this for casual use -- not as a professional.

Cheers
jimbo

A:Visual Basic 6 or Visual Studio for EXCEL use

Doesn't Office 2010 still support VBA (Visual Basic for Applications)? I think that is what you mean by Basic in Excel?

As far as supporting VB6 in Win 8, VB6 apps do run in Windows (32 bit), though we've had issues at work with some 3rd party components. I'm pretty sure 64 bit is out for VB6! I couldn't get any VB6 executables to run on my Windows 7-64 box, though they will run just fine in an XP VM.

I think your options are VBA in Excel if you want to stick with classic VB...

I get flickering and visual noise (in lines, across the screen) when I play some games. It happens when I alt-tab out of (and then back into) GTA3 and Vice City, and it happens in midnight club 2 demo and freedom fighters demo.

I have winxp pro with a GF2go video card (laptop, obviously) with the latest directx and detenator drivers.

A:Flickering and visual noise in some games

Simple solution: Don't alt-tab. Laptops are not meant for games, especially high-end games like the ones you are playing. They cause the video card to create too much heat, thus resulting in an unstable environment for the rest of the hardware, so you get odd occurences like that. You really can't expect all that much gaming performance from a laptop.

any help is appreciated!! thanks!

A:visual studio

It's best to read the license agreement for each piece of software yourself, since one person's "free" license differs from anothers. I don't think that Visual Studio express has any restrictions on what you can do with your work (unless you packaged microsoft files with it, in which case you would get into trouble).
This is just my own memory though, so you really should verify it directly from the license.

Hey, I'm in a computer science course and I need some help with configuring my brand new Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 program that I just bought (don't worry I got the student rate)..

I've been using the same program only a couple years older at the school labs, but now when I try to recreate the exact same simple (beginner C++) programs that I write at the school labs I get a couple REALLY ANNOYING errors...

This is the most basic program I could think of that I tried to just to test:

#include <iostream>

using namespace std;

int main()
{
cout << "Hello, I hope this works!" << endl;

return 0;
}

But even with a program as simple as this I get a couple of regular Build Errors such as:

LIBCD.lib(wincrt0.obj) : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol [email protected] referenced in function _WinMainCRTStartup
Debug/Test.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals

Can someone PLEASE help me...

I chose a windows console project as my template thingy.... and used a blank work space then added in a blank .cpp file... then added the code.. and pressed build.... I don't do anything differently at school so what's the deal??

ANY help is much appreciated!!!

I really don't mess with .net that much, but in studio.net 2002 here's a way that works.

open up a text editor and put the following in.

#include <iostream>
#include <stdlib.h>

using namespace std;

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{

system("PAUSE");
return 0;
}
Make sure there is a line after the last bracket.

save it as test.cpp.

Now in studio.net, create a new project.

Select managed c++ empty project from the c++ projects.

type in a name for the project and click ok.

Then in the solutions explorer window, select the source files folder.

Then in the file menu, select add an existing item.

add the test.cpp file and build it.

That way works, but I'm not sure that's the best way since i don't really mess with the program.

That program above is just a command line program with a system pause. You should then be able to add whatever you want.

If you still get errors, there may be something else wrong.

A:c++ visual studio'05

Either use abort() or exit() from the cstdlib. Please keep in mind that these routines only cleanup global destructor's and the stack objects. Any unallocated memory on the heap may not be touched, so you will need to cleanup for yourself.

exit() calls all routines registered with atexit(). Be default, the CRT registers all global destructor objects this way to insure all global objects are destroyed. properly. You can also register your own routines using this method. All routines are called in reverse order of when they were registered.

exit() takes the form:

Code:

void exit ( int status );

where status is the return code of the process. cstdio defines EXIT_SUCCESS and EXIT_FAILURE, you can use whatever though.

Heres an example:

Code:

#include <cstdlib> // include stdlib.h if using C

...somewhere in your code
if (condition_not_met) {

// quit
exit (EXIT_FAILURE);
}

I personally recommend against using this routine as it does not clean up the heap that can cause memory and resource leaks. There is no special routine for this. In other words, I recommend creating your own methods of termination and error/exception handlers to handle these cases.

An exception handler may be your best bet, assuming performance during error handling is not an issue.

Hi there,
I bought the new Studio laptop DS1537K20C75RM a few days ago. Everithing seemed to be fine untill 3 days ago when I was working in the evening.

The screen is really bright! So I tryed to set the brightness to the lowes level. Suddenly I found that it flickers realy hard and it is easy to nitice!
It seems like the LED is flickering on a low brightness level. I was thinking that it shouldn't!

It is really hard to work in evening in such conditions!

Setting the brightness level to the maximum removes the flickering. I was trying to set the brightness down by the video card properties. It helps but in some reason these brightness settings do not affect the cursor! It just shines anyway! It seems like a workaround but I still hope to find a normal and official solution.

I really think that such a flickering affects my eyes. It is ugly!

Is it a general problem of all LED panels? Why does nobody say about that? I heard only the "great" and "exelent" words about LEDs and thats why I actually bought this model..

I'm open to hear your thoghts! And I hope to engage the technical guys here to explain what's going on with my laptop!

Cheers!

Hello.I have the problem, but not only on lowest but on Low Bright LevelS at all.
Studio 1737
It is really not good, and It cause eye strain.
I think It is faulty LCD display, because I have another Studio. The difference is clear like day and night.
I put both Studio's side by side and I compare them, and It is really huge difference not only in flicking, but in the colours too.
Till colours is not problem or not warranty problem, this easy noticable flicking must be covered under warranty.

This is for Windows 7
I was wanting to use a program to supplement a computer game the other day and I came across this error. I have never used the particular program on this system before however it's worked on every other system I have had.

Apparently this is caused by not having Visual Studio .NET 2002 installed or something, however I have never remembered installing it on any other computers & I'm sure that I have installed:

I never had to download the particular program (it's freeware) to any location to be able to use it before, and looking through my computer it appears that I have some sort of newer visual studio files (with the 71, 80 and 90 version indicator).

What's going on, can I get the files I need or what do I need to do to get this thing to work?

OKAY... i wanted to uninstall visual studio 2005. i went to add\remove and went to the program and uninstalled it successfully. after the uninstall it showed me some extra things to remove from add\remove which i did... even though i oculd find 3 or 4 of the things it listed. Anyway even though its gone i think its not fully gone.... when i quit one of my games a window popped up telling me something abbout some debugger or something (i forgot) and it mentioned turning something on in visual studio... is there a cleaner i can download or something to fully clease myself of it.. or can i run disk cleanup or something..

When I am on a stock trading website [NinjaTrader] i edit a ''NinjaScript'' program written in C#. The editor does not have a breakpoint feature but i am able to attach to Visual Studio to use Visual Studio's C# editor debugger breakpoint features. However, I encounter an error message displayed below. I have absolutely no idea what the message means or how to resolve the issue. Any help/suggestions will be much appreciated.

Also, can you guys remotely logon to a computer to help?

Hi

My story;
At the start of this year I got a job (whilst studying) doing basic data entry. It has quickly progressed to me doing basic IT stuff for my office ie creating databases and frontends for the clueless office staff, I also have done a full CRM for a webbased company, which they love. So I think I at least have some aptitude.This has all been based in Access (and a little Excel) so I've picked up a fair bit of SQL and VB. I'm pretty keen to gain a greater understanding of .Net and have "acquired" Visual Studio .Net 2003.

My question;
I'm looking for someone to point me in the general direction of an online tutorial site or hardcopy book which they would best suit my needs. I've had a look round but I mean there's so much to choose from I'm not quite sure where to start.

Any help, direction, links would be much appreciated.

A:Learning Visual Studio, how?

I can not tell you how to learn anything, thats up to you but I can tell you how I have gotten the knowledge that I have in VB.

First identify something that you want to do in VB like monitor the production of a machine.

Second just start by developing the interface and getting the fun things done. How are you going to display the information and is it accessible for input to others?

Third as you are perfecting the HID you will discover things you want to change and add to the project.

Break the program down into just one item that you want to solve at a time. Say you want to create a Excel file at exactly 7:00am and 7:00pm to store your information. Get that part done and working exactly the way you want it before moving on to the next item.

Before long you will have the project done but never finished as there is always something else that isn't just right.
Sounds easy Right!!

No where do you get the knowledge to actually write the code?

FREE VB code is available from several web sites for download. Get as many as you can find on one subject and check them out. I don't believe I have ever used someone elses code as it was written. I have always changed or modified the code from several programs to get what I wanted.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING
You are learning VB from doing something that you want to do yourself not because it was in a book and that was the next chapter. You will never forget knowledge or code that you have strived for personally.

My PC keeps nagging me to install the Visual Studio C++ security update KB2467173. It fails every time. I ran the Windows diagnostic cab file which tells me there are one or more corrupt files but offers no other help. SFC /scannow says the same thing and says it can't fix the corrupt files. I really don't want to re-install Windows and don't have a convenient restore point. Is there any way for me to simply reinstall the C++ runtime components? I see various files on the Microsoft website and am not sure which ones might work. I'd sorta like to avoid making things worse. I'm running Windows 8.1 x64 Pro.

A:Visual Studio Error

Have a look here:

How to remove Visual Studio 2005

Suggest making a complete system backup first. only use the link in that article if you want to use the Msizap.exe.

   Note
This tool is only available in the Windows SDK Components for Windows Installer Developers and should not be redistributed. Use the recent version of Msizap.exe (version 3.1.4000.2726 or greater) that is available in the Windows SDK Components for Windows Installer Developers for Windows Vista or greater. Lesser versions of Msizap.exe can remove information about all updates that have been applied to other applications on the user's computer. If this information is removed, these other applications may need to be removed and reinstalled to receive additional updates.

I'm programming in C++.

I no longer get the message box that comes up after i click the "Start Debugging" button. i.e when there were code errors a box would pop up telling me there were errors and asking if i wanted to run the last known correct build. However this box no longer shows up(I must have clicked "always select this option") and if I have coded something incorrectly, the last known good build always runs. How do I get the option box back?

Thanks

A:Visual Studio Problem

I think the option you are looking for is in Tools>Options > Projects and Solutions > Build and Run and under the option 'On Run, when build or deployment errors occur:', select 'Prompt to launch'

Hi,

I hope this is in the correct forum!

I need to find out which version of Visual Studio 2005 we have installed on a friends server, in terms of if it is Express, Professional etc.

Is there an easy way to find this out because I can't find any information on it!

Thanks

Jay

A:Which Version of Visual Studio do I have?

Although NONE of the embedded links work anymore (MS like to change those so you cannot find information you need), the article does describe the complexity of 'versions' and added complexity of 'subscriptions'.

Useful to understand the terms though.

http://www.developer.com/net/asp/article.php/3561981

Most MS software has a 'version' listed if you right click the .exe it uses and click properties. There will be a prduct version (number usually), a a product name and a text Description plus other info.

Hi all. Running Vista Home Premium on a Toshiba Laptop here. After a couple of failed installs of the 2005 SQL server, a few days ago (and its subsequent uninstall), tonight I began getting an error messages that Visual Studio and Visual Basic failed to run. I have since reinstalled Visual Studio C++ 2005 and am down to only one error message. Would I be better off to upgrade to the 2008 version that is available on the web and if so do I need to uninstall the 2005 version first? Thanks, as I have no experience with this particular software and don't know how critical it may or may not be to my system.

Hello reader.

I'm following a webdevelopment course and we're using Visual Studio. At school the thing works beautifully but at home... I can get it installed without any problems on my home computer and I can make new projects as much as I like and I can view them without any problems in Internet Explorer (IE), but.... Whenever I try to open an existing project that I did not make on my home computer I get an error message saying something like "The language of IE SP6 and Visual Studio don't match. Please install the appropriate language edition of IE from the CD." (The XP on my home computer is in Dutch and Visual Studio is in English, whereas on the other computer - where everything works fine - both things are in English) So I try to install the English IE from the CD, but of course get a new error. This one says: "Please remove IE with add/remove programs before installing this new version."

When I go to Add/Remove Programs, IE is not there and in the Add/Remove Windows Parts (or whatever it's called) the IE checkbox thing only deletes the entries in the Start menu. I tried searching for ways to get IE to show up in the add/remove thing (I know I did it once with MSNmessenger) but cannot find a site where I can find which text file I have to edit....

I have tried the microsoft way of uninstalling IE (going into the registry and putting the IsInstalled setting to 0. I did not try the first option with the scanning thing since I... Read more
