Q: Infected. Unable to use computer., No desktop, toolbar, unable to access internet.

From first topic: Link is: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/271418/infected-unable-to-use-computer/ ~ OBI know I am infected, but unsure about where I would start. Basically:My computer was completely fine, my Monday evening regular virus/spyware searches turned up 0 results. Tuesday morning I went on the internet, got a few IE popups (even though I use Firefox). Decided to do a Malwarebytes scan and got over 750 infected objects infected. Let the scan finish and was told to restart computer, restarted and the problems started. I completely lost my desktop, no icons and no toolbar; a few more restarts and I managed to get them back but nothing else worked. Every program says I don't have the rights to access it or the computer has the resources to start.I can't access the internet and any scans I can run stop in the middle and give me the 'system resources' error.I'm not using that computer at the moment, since I'm completely unable to use it.Firstly I must ask, is is necessary to save the dds.scr and rootrepeal scanners directly to the desktop, or can they be moved there after being downloaded to another location? I can't access the internet on the infected computer so I will be unable to download them if they MUST be saved to the desktop. I have already managed to run a Win32kDiag scan (attached).Thank you for any help.

Preferred Solution: Infected. Unable to use computer., No desktop, toolbar, unable to access internet.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I've read the above rules and tried to follow them prior to posting....

I'm running XP on a desktop.

My nieces were using the computer and have apparently downloaded many trojans and who knows what else. I had let my Kapersky anti-virus expire (yes, my fault), and failed to warn my nieces on the rules of using that computer.

Anyway, this morning we had a fake alert running (complete with misspellings....). I finally got malwarebytes installed (had to copy it to a disk using another computer and then change the name and install it under SafeMode) and it found many trojans and deleted them. I also ran a spyware program (installed in the same manner).

But, something is still wrong, because I'm unable to access most websites (hotmail, gmail, miscrosoft, any computer-related or virus-related websites).

I followed the directions above and got everything installed (had a real hard time with RootRepeal) and logs run, but I can't figure out how to post them. I can't access bleepingcomputer from that computer and I can't get to email. I tried saving the logs to a CD - but the computer won't recognize the disk. I'm also hesitant to infect my laptop.

Thanks for any help with what my next move might be. I admit I'm stumped. I'm fairly capable at following directions, but am not very good at problem-solving computer issues on my own.

TIA.

A:Infected with Trojans, unable to access most internet sites.

If you have a flash drive you can transfer them to your laptop after installing this:Please download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs and save it to your desktop.Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear. The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.Hold down the Shift key when inserting the drive until Windows detects it to keep autorun.inf from executing if it is present.Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.Reboot your computer when done.Note: As part of its routine, Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive that was plugged in when you ran it. Do not delete this folder...it will help protect your drives from future infection by keeping the autorun file from being installed on the root drive and running other malicious files.

Hi there,

My Lenovo Thinkpad laptop got infected by several pop-ups and unwanted programs over the course of the weekend. I launched Avast anti virus, which got rid of the pop ups, and I've manually deleted some of the programs (fake cleaners, etc.) I did not personally download during the time of attack.

I am currently running windows 10 (dumb enough to click the trial, duh)

The laptop is extremely slow now. I have problems accessing the internet from all major browsers (citing DNS errors on Microsoft Edge, Chrome and Opera). However I am able to access the internet using Avast's Safebrowse internet browser.

I have copied the FRST logs as per the rules.

Thank you in advance.

I am new to this forum and would very much appreciate some help. My laptop (Windows 10) has been infected and I have not been able to connect to the Internet. Sophos points out to a Troj/syswow64/dnsapi.dll file but I have not been able to clean/delete the file. Or run MBAM. How to get rid of this virus and get my internet up and running? I've reset the drive twice!

I was referring to the same issue on http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/592457/dnsapidll-removed-localhost-blocked/ . Please let me know how I can go about collecting logs for troubleshooting.

Ok so I have a machine here that has a dedicated card and an onboard NIC. Neither of those two can obtain an IP address while every other machine connected is capable of doing so (so can my phone through wireless). Worked fine before I installed the antivirus (removed trend micro and installed MSE).

The RPC service is running so that isn't the issue. tried different cables and another NIC but nothing. This is a windows XP based machine.

Ideas?

Alright well, I'm on Windows Vista and something managed to crawl into my computer.

Now, when I start the computer up and log into my account, I've got about 6 seconds to quickly press the start button and open up Mozilla or whatever other programs I need before my taskbar and all of my desktop icons vanish, I can't even right click on the desktop after this.

On top of that, if I do manage to click on My Documents or Computer or Control Panel even, it just closes them automatically.

I've used ClamWin and Nod32 to try and find it and get rid of it, but no such luck. I've even booted the computer up in Safe Mode, deleted at least 1,245 documents that just appeared in My Computer and My Documents.. But nothing works. I'm at a total and complete loss.

Any advice?

When it appeared it was a new desktop and a message on the task bar stated "you can not access you files and folders". I have followed a few steps about unlocking locked accounts but my account wasn't locked.

A few other things have been happening over the last week so I am worried I might have a virus.

A google search left me thinking this problem was not common so I am at a loss what to do.

You should run a virus scan. If you do not have one installed try Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows Let us know how it goes.

Sorry for the vague title but frankly i'm at a bit of a loss even simply describing the issue.

Basically, I'm unable to save to desktop with some programs and when i tried to build a c++ console application and then run it through visual studio, it gave me an "Access is denied" error. I've also noticed that shortcuts aren't being created.

For example, FL studio is giving me this:

and i'm not sure if relevant but i'm not even able to browse to C:\ in the save prompt.

I've tried messing with permissions and taking ownership and anything else i was able to find but so far nothing has helped.

Well that might not be true, FL studio saving did work at one point, for just a moment. I'm not at all sure what triggered it though, or what caused it to stop working.

I've had this problem for quite a while now and i'd be so incredibly grateful if i could finally find a solution.

Hi My computer is infected and I hope someone here can help me.

I'm unable to access any of my programs. I used your link here and downloaded Hijackthis, but can't run it because it gives me the pop up asking me to choose which program to run it on. (I have no idea which to choose). I get this same windows pop up when trying to access all programs, plus Firefox (the only browser is use), and even yahoo messenger, windows live messenger, etc. I will be happy to post a screen shot here if needed, it's the pop up with everything from firefox to notepad to Windows Media Player listed.

I've been using AVG but I think I let it expire, so I downloaded it again, and can't access it. I've been looking over the forums here and haven't found this exact problem, as everyone seems to be able to use the Hijackthis to give you access to information.

My problem then is at least two fold, I need to be able to first start accessing my programs to give the info needed here to then clean multiple infections from my pc.

Thank you all for your time and attention to this. I was so happy to find a site that may be able to help me. I checked 'computer illiterate' in the drop down option when registering lol.

Hi,

I was hoping that someone could help me out with this as it's slowly but surely driving me ever closer to insanity.

Basically I until recently had this nasty spyware that amongst other things locked me out of my task manager as well as the desktop tab in the display properties menu.

I removed the spyware and managed to get into the task manager by disabling the disabling function in the group policy menu (by running gpedit.msc).

However am still not able to get into the Desktop tab.
The options in the tab are simply greyed out (as was previously the same with the taskmanager button). When I tried the same trick in the group policy menu by going into User Configuration/Administrative templates/Control Panel/Display option - It made no difference. What I have tried is to simply disable all the possible settings there were (in the User Configuration/Administrative templates/Control Panel/Display option).

Is there a different section in the group policy menu which I have to alter or is there some other solution?

I would be very grateful for any help or possible ideas any of you guys might have as i'm completely stumped on this one

Ta,

Paddy

I just recently installed the Windows 8.1 update earlier today. Immediately after the required restart, my computer has not been working properly. As soon as I log on, the desktop flashes back and forth from the desktop picture to the color of the menu background. It flashes back and forth pretty quickly and while this is happeneing I can't perform any functions. When I try clicking on the internet or anything else it is nonresponsive. I tried doing a system restore but after my computer restarted it said the restore was unsuccessful. I tried it again, as well as trying it from a different restore point but neither would work. I then attempted to restart my computer in safe mode but immediately got a pop up saying: "The instruction at 0x35f7649c referenced memory at 0x35f7649c. The memory could not be rewritten. Click OK to terminate the program." After clicking OK, the popup immediately came back and neither clicking OK or pressing the X in the upper right would make it go away and it would just immediatley pop back up and I could not click on anything else while it was up. Also while in safe mode, my desktop shortcuts and desktop picture were again flashing. I'm concerned I have a virus but not exactly sure how I got it or how to fix it. I have Webroot installed and it alerted me to a potential virus a couple days ago but when I tried to fix it, it said something about my product key expiring it and since it wasn't causing my any problems I ignored it. Hi

I'm new to this site, apologies if I've post in the wrong section!

I think I maybe infected with some kind of virus/malware as I have tried to go to AVG, Avast websites etc, but I am never able to do so:

Message:

Server not available:
Firefox can't find the server at free.avg.com. (similar happens in Internet explorer).

At first I tried clearing the cache, flushing dns but this had no effect. I then tried to access the sites from another computer and the sites loaded fine. I then downloaded the free software and transferred to the infected computer, but every time I try to run the .exe they suddenly stop running - with no warning or error message. This also happens in safe mode.

I managed to download hijackthis software while in safe mode and have run the scan and saved the log, but wanted to post here before resorting to that.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks

I am trying to access Remote Desktop Connection (RDP), but I cannot find it anywhere on my computer.

I went to Start > Programs > Accessories > Communications and it is not there. I also just looked under Accessories, and it is not there.

I also tried a search for mstsc.exe (the filename for RDP), and the search does not come up with anything.

I tried Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs, and the file (RDP or mstsc) is not showing either.

I tried to download RDP from Windows, but while installing, I get an error message stating that RDP is already on my computer and it fails to install.

Can anyone help me on finding RDP or removing it so I can install it from Windows???

Thanks,

Did you install a full version of Windows XP or a pirated, trimmed version like Tiny XP? If you are running Tiny XP then your out of luck to use the windows remote connection without installing a full version of XP.

However, you can also use software like TeamViewer or VNC which are also remote connection software.

Spybot S+D and MB's AntiMalware both report a clean machine, but again would like verification. Hello,

Recently my computer has been progressively getting worse, or so it seems. At first all that I was limited on was going to a handful of sites that I tried (Facebook, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc...). Currently, I am having difficulties getting on more and more sites, sites that I had been recently able to get on. In my attempts to take care of the problem on my own I downloaded Malwarebytes, IObit Malwarefighter, and ran recovery manager to set my computer back to factory condition. I knew because I did the recovery that it was going to most likely not work so I saved files and documents I wanted to save on a thumb-drive. Malwarebytes and IObit claim to have found nothing but I can't seem to upgrade Malwarebytes as the program crashes when it scans for an update. Since I recovered my computer I cannot watch anything on Netflix (on any browser), and I still can't access any of the websites I was unable to. I went onto Wikihow and tried to reset my "hosts" file but it seems whatever I did could have just been more damaging than helpful, I am not quite sure. I am running Windows 7 as an operating system on an HP computer. I have looked at threads you have done or solved in the past and some of the solutions that worked for other posters did nothing to cure my problem. Thank you for reviewing my issue and if I need to post any more information to get things rolling just let me know.

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.

Hi there,

I can't access some websites by typing their URLs (e.g. guardian.co.uk or theguardian.com a news website) at the address box of the browsers I have (chrome, firefox, internet explorer). This problem started happening since about 10 days ago when I had two instances of what I suspect were virus infections. These two incidents happened when I was using the paltalk software. In each of the incidents, a window popped up and told me that some file was stored at some location in my computer. In each of the occasions, I scanned my computer for any malware infection using malwarebyte anti-malware software. Malwarebyte did not find any malware infection. My main concern is that the potential malware infection might be much more serious than the website-blocking incidents that I have discovered. So, I would like you to help me solve this problem and address my concern by checking my computer for any malware infection.

I have a Windows 10 home operating system.   I have a symantech endpiont protection installed in my computer, which Windows has few days ago reported as not functioning.

Thanks,

kg

Having a trouble accessing my MAC runing OSX Mavericks from windows remote desktop app on Windows 7 machine.

Both Mac and PC are on the same home network.

Used to work with out issue but for some reason now, even on my internal home network I'm not able to access the Mac from my Win 7 PC. Used to be able to access it from external also.

I have a dyndns account that is currently working and configured.

I am able to use VNC fine, as well as Google Chrome remote desktop app, and logmein. All internally and externally.

The router is set to a publice static IP assigned by my ISP.

I have my target machine configured on an internal static IP on my network.

I have made sure that port 3389 is forwarded via my router to the target machine static IP.

When I try accessing via Windows remote desktop I get a message that reads

Not sure what else could be preventing me from using this as it was before now. The reason I'm still still trying is that the Windows remote desktop worked far better than any other remote desktop solution.

I get crazy screen refresh lag using VNC to the point it's almost not worth using it. Even when used on my internal network.

Any help appreciated.

A:Windows Remote Desktop Unable to Access MAC From Internal or External

I am presuming that you have a static IP Address configured on the MAC? If not, you will need one.

The first thing I would do would be to download the latest version of the MS Remote Desktop and do a re-install of it:
Download Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2.1.1 from Official Microsoft Download Centre

Have you tried using Logmein? I've found it to be very stable.

To alleviate the shutdown...

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Code:

@shutdown -a
Save this as fix.bat Choose to "Save type as - All Files"
It should look like this:

Each time your machine threatens to shutdown, double click on fix.bat & it shall abort the shutdown procedure. That should ease some of your current difficulties.

THIS IS ABOUT MY LAPTOP AND NOT BEING ABLE TO BROWSE THE INTERNET AT ALL ON IT (WIRELESSLY OR WITH ETHERNET CABLE JOINING IT TO THE ROUTER)
13 days ago I was on my laptop, i had just turned it on and realised i wasn't able to connect wirelessly to the internet (although i was apparently connected wirelessly to our house's network.... like normal).
I'm on Vista and, sorry I am not good with technical terms whatsoever guys, the little two monitors with a globe icon didn't have a globe (just two monitors!).

NOW WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO SAY THAT: I've had this laptop for years and the router for slightly less, but the whole time I've had that router, it has been connected to the desktop pc via an ethernet cable (and i'd been able to connect wirelessly to our network on my laptop and browse the internet on my laptop).
Recently the desktop pc got moved into the other room where it had never been turned on since (just because no one needed to), and it had been in that room for weeks before this problem happened.

About 10 days ago I connected my ethernet cable into my laptop (the other end connected to the router) and I was able to browse the internet! I went into the other room trying to stretch the ethernet cable to reach... but when i tried to browse the internet again, i wasn't able to.

It's hard to remember all this detail but I believe that it was after that event that I plugged the ethernet cable back into my desktop pc (other end in router), plugged the pc in (it had not ... Read more

Hello,

I have a problem connecting to the Internet.

I have a small network containing two computers connected to a D-Link router (DI - 704P), which is connected to the DSL-modem which, in turn, is connected the Internet. The router is set up to work as the DHCP-server and it hands out IP-adresses just fine.

This setup worked well until recently when one of the computers, during a night when noone was using it and it was turned off, stopped being able to access the Internet. Actually, it CAN access the Internet since I can ping computers on the Internet using either IP or name. However, when I use an FTP-program och Firefox I cannot access the FTP-server I want or the Web. The Internet connection works just fine for the other computer in the network.

I have tried to re-install the Network Adapter, turn of the Router and DSL Modem. I have also uninstalled Norton Internet Security since I have heard it can cause issues.

I would be very glad for any assistance!
/ Nelson

For these commands, Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.
Sounds like a browser problem. I saved the following from a previous thread, and think the steps may help your problem. Open a Command window (Start - Run - cmd - OK) and ...

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset [log_file_name]

Note: the log_file_name needs to be specified, e.g. netsh int ip reset reset.log

A:Unable to access internet via URL

If he can visit some websites (they're not cached are they?) and not ping them i usually find this is down to my firewall. If you co-worker has installed a firewall get them to check their firewalls network config. Most firewalls have ICMP features such as 'Ping and tracert in/out'. Also make sure he is using ping correctly! Ping will not like:
Code:
C:\> ping http://www.google.com
Basically check this.

If not try a system restore to when it was working...
It could be many many things so best to start somewhere easy

Thanks in advance for helping me out. I'm having a problem with my laptop where I am unable to access the internet using any browser! I was using IE, and I thought the problem might just be with IE, so I downloaded Firefox (using my desktop PC) and installed it on the laptop. Same results. It just says something like "Connecting to 64.123.24.222" in the status bar then gives me a DNS error as if I'm not connected to the internet. However, I know my internet connection is fine because Outlook connects to my mail provider and downloads e-mail just fine on the same laptop and my desktop runs off of the same connection. I should also mention that I tried using both the regular Ethernet connection and wireless connection (as I have a wireless router), and it doesn't seem to make a difference which way I'm connecting. Still nothing. Both connections are set up to obtain IP address and DNS server automatically. I have AVG virus finder and have run it with no threats found. I've also run Spybot with no problems found and Advanced WindowsCare and cleaned up any problems that it found. It just started doing this yesterday, and I've tried everything I know to do with no luck.

Any ideas?

Hello! I have a problem. It has been more 2 weeks now since my laptop is suddenly unable to access the internet (both wifi and cable).

It succesfully connects to a wireless network, I can see the name of it, but after connecting my laptop is displaying "No internet access" below the network name. Also, In the task bar, my wireless icon has an exclamation mark, in a yellow triangle. I have tried to connect with another laptop and it worked fine with the other laptop. So, is the problem with my laptop, or with the network setting. Can you help me?
