Q: Access 2002 Developer Problems

We've created a large access database using Access 2002 devleoper for each computer in the building. On a majority of the computers the program works fine, but on a few it doesn't. By Double-Clicking on the desktop icon the program begins to load but only goes so far then basicly stops. Checking the task manager it doesn't show the program running under the applications tab but shows msaccess.exe under the processes tab. There is no CPU usage for that file and I have to log off and log back on again. All computers are running WIN2k. The two particular computers that don't work are running wireless to the server to get the data using Cisco wireless cards and access points. Is it possible the mdac needs updating or certain drivers are out of date?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

I am using Access 2007.
I have lost the Developer tab in the Microsoft Office Dropdown box. This happened after downloading Access runtime.
In the Access Options, the ‘Microsoft Office Access Developer Extensions COM Add-in’ will not stay checked.

Is there anybody who has used Access 2003 Developer Extensions? Is it a tool which can pack an Access 2003 application. Could the packed application run stand-alone (no need to have Access 2003 installed)?

I wanted to get more info about the Microsoft Security Updates API, so I'm having a look at the Guidance tab on this page https://portal.msrc.microsoft.com/en-us/
When I click on the "developer" tab I get redirected to the Sign In page - however, upon selecting my profile, I get redirected back to the Guidance tab on Security Updates page https://portal.msrc.microsoft.com/en-us/. and
I am stuck in this loop. This happens both with the old and the new Sign In experience. No way to access the developer info.

Hello All,

Just recently my company purchased Office 2000 Developer Edition because they were in need of purchasing the Access Runtime Library, to distribute their Access Databases.

However as of yet, I have been unable to use the Access 2000 Runtime Development Tools to distribute these databases due me not understanding the process clearly (previously in Access 97 it was a case of install the program and away you went, now I haven't got a clue where to start as we weren't given any software manuals).

An urgent response would be appreciated

Windows 8 Developer Preview with developer tools English, 64-bit (x64)

When using the DVD tool from Microsoft as explained in one of the tutorials in this forum,
I receive the following error message:

The disc does not have sufficient free space.

I use a 4.7GB DVD disc, and the size of the Windows 8 Developer Preview with tools English, 64-bit (x64) iso file
size is: 4.83 GB.

Of-course this is the source of my problem, and i need a way to fix it.

What i am doing currently, is downloading the Windows 8 Developer Preview without tools.

I have read some solutions, but they did not offer what i am looking for.

I need a way to install the complete version with developer tools, including:

64-bit Windows 8 Developer Preview
Windows SDK for Metro style apps
Microsoft Visual Studio 11 Express for Windows 8 Developer Preview
Microsoft Expression Blend 5 Developer Preview
28 Metro style apps including the BUILD Conference app

I only have a normal DVD drive, no USB stick of the required size, but I have a second hard-disk with sufficient space.
AND I have an external USB hard-disk with sufficient space.

Tried to install from local hard-disk in Windows 7 by using the setup.exe in the sources directory, gives me the following error:
To install Windows, make sure that the partition on your bootdisk has at least 1243 Megabytes (MB) of free space.

Hello all,
I am having an issue accessing the Developer API access page within the Microsoft Security Response Center website (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/msrc). When I click on Customer Guidance > Developer API access, or navigate to https://portal.msrc.microsoft.com/en-us/developer,
my browser first asks me to sign in and click which account I would like to use. I click my desired account, and it briefly redirects to the Microsoft Developer API Access page, but then after a split-second it redirects me back to the sign-in page. Is it
a requirement to have a specific type of email associated with the Microsoft account in order to get past this?

Hello again,

I found out that these extensions are supposed to make it where I can export my access databases as .exe files. This would be great, since then I could just have a .exe for ones in the office to run, so that no one could edit forms, tables, etc.

Now, I googled it, and got this site. I can't seem to find where to actually download it however.

Is this a good fix for what I am wanting to do? This way, everyone in the office wouldn't have to have access, they could just run the .exe, and that would allow them to use the forms just as they would if they had the database itself.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hey everybody

I've been trying to figure this out for a while, but just can't seem to get it to work right.

I have the Microsoft Office Access 2003 Developer Extensions, which has a packaging wizard, that is used to package up a Access database and include a runtime environment, so users without access on their computer can use a database.

I have access on the computer in my office, so I take the file I want to package, and run the wizard, creating a setup file for the database and runtime. Now, I go over to the server, run the setup program, and have it installed on the server.

I can run the database on the server fine. I open it up, it runs in runtime mode, just as the package wizard said it should, and I can do whatever I want. The problem I am having is, I try to create a share, so that I can share this program with users on the network.

When I do this, it just doesn't work right. It is saying that it can't find the file "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\ifg_agent_database\ifg_agents_modified_10_13_05.mdb"

Any ideas on what is going on?

The centers of the C and left Ctrl keys are over three inches apart.  I keep hitting the Fn key when I mean to hit Ctrl.
There's no option in the BIOS to remap Fn to Ctrl.  The kernel doesn't see Fn keypresses at all, so I can't remap at the OS level.  And this is a laptop marketed to developers?  What a joke!!
Does anyone know how to fix the keyboard?  I don't want to re-learn how to type.
I really, really, really want to like this computer.  It's a beautiful machine, but between the absurd keyboard design and the coil whine I'm thinking about sending it back.

Any tips?  I'm not interested in mapping Caps Lock to Ctrl.  My Caps Lock is mapped to Esc.

I downloaded the 32bit version of the Developer Preview from here. I chose the 32bit version because I do not have the VTX AMD-v in my BIOS.

Then I setup a virtual partition in my vBox 4.1.2. Made the following settings

Enable IO APIC
Enable PAE/NX
Disable VT-x/AMD-V and Nested Paging

With all of that I tried to install but got bombed out (forgot to snip the messages but can try again to get them).

Does anybody have an idea where the problem could be? One suspicion I have is that I try to run the 32bit Win8 in a vBox on top of a 64bit Win7. But that is only a hunch.

Recently create a live account to access the API of the new Security
Update Guide.

When I execute the "Developer" link -> I am asked for the account
to use -> I select the account I created -> I execute the "Generate API Key" ->
From here the page refreshes a few times then I get redirected back to
the Portal Page with "guidance" selected.
When I execute the "Developer" link again. I am asked to generate another key.

Any ideas on why I cannot view the generated Key?

Hi. I wrote an Access DB program on my machine which is running Windows 7 and Access 2007.
I want to move it to a machine that is running Windows and Access 2002.
I saved the program on my machine electing to save in Access 2002 format.
It doesn't run on the other machine. The diagnostic says something about being unable to locate a necessary reference.
The HELP suggests opening a module, clicking "Tools" then "Preferences", and do some things to make the reference
available. But "Preferences" is grayed out, not selectable.

The statement that is highlighted as the problem is a simple 'set' statement, as in: set rst = something (in this case it was an
openrecordset command). The variable rst is highlighted. If I eliminate the statement the system just finds and stops at the next 'set' statement, of which there are many.

I thought that saving in Access 2002 format would solve these incompatibilities, but apparently not.

Any suggestions?

Hello All,
I am having an issue where some of the machines cannot access a db that is stored on a network drive. I believe the error gives wording relating to trusted locations. Is there a way I can add a trusted location in access 2002? I know how to do it in 2007 but have yet to do it in 2002. I will post more information if you need it on monday when I can get in touch with the users that have the error.

I need help on setting up VB5 for db applications using Access 2002 in Win XP environment. When I try to connect to a .mdb db file, I get "unrecognised database format" for Jet use and "Cannot enumerate Table names in ODBC Direct mode" for ODBCDirect use. I searched the internet for such problems experienced by others and realized that this is a compatibility issue. I now have the latest jet and DAO (3.6) dlls. I still can not coonect to the database. Can I successfully connect to a database file with the existing VB5 version under the present set up? I would appreciate your guidance. Thanks

Yes you can, however this will only permit you to do so with code and not with any controls such as the data control. These controls need to be upgraded to take advantage of DAO 3.6 and as far as I know the only way to do that is to have VB6 and SP4 or higher for it. I do not believe that there is a service pack for VB5 which will upgrade the necessary controls.

Recently had problems and have had to reinstally Microsoft Office Pro 2002 several times. The last time I installed it Access will no longer load. It shows it on my start up menu and there are several pop-up windows telling me it is configuing Microsoft Office, gathering information, etc. when I attempt to load the program then the Access program does not load. I even went to the disk and tried to load the AccessRT and get the following message Error1311. source fine not found: E:\FILES\MOD\OFFICE1.CAB. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

I really need to use this data base, can anyone help?

I'm trying to create a table in Access that will hold values and do simple math. For example, if I have three fields of 10 20 and 30. I would want a 4th field that will give me the average of them both.

I have this done in Excel, however I want to convert my data into an interactive webpage and thus I need the data saved in access. The data will continually be changing and I would like to know if I Access can continually, "crunch" the data, based on new values. Can Access perform this function and does anyone have some advice on how to get started?

I have a question about queries...

I have a table called "Amounts" with data formatted like this:

The weeks go all the way up to 109 (and growing). What I need to do is SUM the totals for each rep every 4 weeks in a query.

So lets say that Rep 1 had 100.00 in week 1, 500.00 in week 2, 300.00 in week 3, 100 in week 4, 500.00 in week 5, 500 in week 6, 100 in week 7, and 100 in week 8.

And lets say that Rep 2 had 200.00 in week 1, 100.00 in week 2, 200.00 in week 3, 100 in week 4, 200.00 in week 5, 100 in week 6, 200 in week 7, and 200 in week 8.

So when I run this query, I would get the results

Group1 (weeks 1-4) Rep Amount
1 1,000
2 600
Group2 (weeks 4-8) 1 1,200
2 700
... ... ...
and so on and so on...
Is this possible? I have been driving myself F'ing crazy! Any and all help is welcome! Thanks in advance...

but I don't. So I can't answer your question. But I suspect it will upgrade from any MS product.

The reviews I've read have all been good, but vague, as if Mighty Bill told everyone to say, "Hey, 2002's better, isn't it?"

The number-one reason I don't have it, in spite of being an Access developer? No, it's not waiting on the client to buy it for me. It's principles: MS Software is too dang expensive, period, for today's software world. Because it can be. And yes, that still irritates me.

But if you get it, let us know how it is, as I'm sure the bug questions will shortly be rolling in. (Li'l anecdote: went to the MS Knowledge Base, picked Access 2002 and typed in Upgrade, it gave me 6 articles about errors. Not bad for a product whose street date is, like, yesterday?)

Oh, and as for 2k, I would pronounce it officially stable, once you install the service packs.

I have databases on a network share folder. The average size of these databases is 650MB. Sometimes when queries are run or even just looking for infor in tables the process is slow. On occasion the pc will hang. The event viewer displays event ID 1002. Not much help. Anyway are the files just to large? Any feedback is appreciated.

Have you tried compacting/Repairing the DB? This may bring the size down signicantly.
You can experiment with splitting the database so only the tables are stored on the server and everything else resides on the users PC, this reduces network traffic.

Access 2002 (Office XP version) will not run on WinXP Home Edition. You need Professional Edition to run Access although Word, Excel and PowerPoint will run in the Home Edition.

I'm having trouble using a string variable as a condition in my If...Then statement. I have a concatenated variable which refers to an open recordset:

strAddNewCriteria = "rstDeliverable!" & strActFieldName & " <> 0 And rstDeliverable!booRequired = True And " & strClassCriteria

I try to execute an If...Then loop using strAddNewCriteria as the If criteria:

If Eval(strAddNewCriteria) Then

The application tells me that Access cannot find the rstDeliverable recordset. But, when I use the actual string (rather than the variable), the If...Then loop functions properly.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I work in a small office and we deal with credit card transactions by telephone. Currently, when a customer calls, we record their details on an A5 paper slip which is also fed into a MS Access 97 database. However, to improve accuracy and speed, I have created a new database.

I have 2 tables, no querys and 2 forms.

Table 1: View Credit Card Details
Table 2: Add Transaction

Form 1: View Credit Card Details
Form 2: Add Transactions

When we search for a customer's details by searching via their postcode within the V.C.C.D. form, we are presented with the customer's credit card no, address, tel no etc. My question is this: We would like to add a new transaction (bank authorisation code) without having to re-type all the details and also to prevent us displaying 2 forms. The (bank authorisation code) data would be going to the add transactions table anyway, it's just to prevent having to tab to another window.
Also, when we add that record, would it mean that every time we search for that postcode, would we presented with all the bank authorisation codes first before we could add a new record with same address details etc?

I have created a snapshot of the database to give, hopefully to give you a better understanding. Also, I am using XP and MS Access 2002.

Any help appreciated.

I have creatde a report, no problem there, but the following occurs.
Ik have a formula that works perfectly:
= [Page] & " van " & Round((([totaal]-44)/61)+0.5,0)+1
I reset the Page to 1 for each group.
The variable [totaal] contains the number of lines for this particular section:
It's a list of student numbers and the exams they have taken over a number of years
Each exam code is one line.
I have a query which is a select distinct Student number and counts the number of exam codes.
000001 56
000002 67
000003 130
etc etc
The list is about 3000 student numbers.

The formula then displays the Page 1 of 3 in the case of 67 lines

That works fine too.
I run the report and at first glanec it's OK.
I go to the last page, no problem
Then flip back page by page and someweher isn the middle and not for all selectiones instead op showing Page 1 of X it starts showing Page 2345 of 3 where 2345 is the actual page if counting pages.

I have checked the query and there are no negative numbers in the TOTAAL field and well, thats the problem there is nothing logical to make this happen.

I have attached some screenshots on a PDF sheet showing page numbers in one set or pages.
This report I reduced to 132 pages and still it happens.

I have Access 2002 running on WinXP. I have designed a database table containing information about Products. I have designed one Form that displays select information from that Table. One of the fields in the Table is a ImageLocationField that shows the location of a JPG images stored in an Imaqe Folder on my hard disk (C:\foldername\imagename1.jpg). The folder contains approx 500 images (imagename1.jpg to imagename500.jpg) but new images are constantly added. When I add a product to my database and I want an image I simply put the relevant image in the Image Folder and add the Image Location in the ImageLocationField.

I now wish to show the relevant image in my Form when looking up a Product.

Can someone tell me how I go about that? Thanks!

Working with a combo box in a subform. If data is entered into that box that is NotInTheList i want the AfterUpdate event for procedure to change. T

The If statement in the AfterUpdate should be fairly easy but how do I capture the triggered OnNotInList Event so i can pass it on to AfterUpdate Event , tell it that the NotInLIst Event occured and code it accordingly. Thanks!

Okay, question: why would you want a user to be able to enter a value into a combobox that is not a predetermined value? The whole idea for combo is that you are forcing the user to use only those values that you have determined are valid....?

Some will argue otherwise, but even for items as seemingly insignificant as "Mr., Mrs., Miss", etc., combo boxes ensure that repeated data is consistently uniform. This may then require you to create a new, small table to accomodate the values, as well as an option for user to input new value, but it ensures that when you go to create a query, you don't miss data that otherwise should be included because of inconsistencies and/or typos.

Very busy and no experience using Access so if anyone has spare time and wants to help me out by making a database file for me...well....thanks! "Go do your own work you lazy *******" or some variation thereof is also an acceptable answer so I'm just throwing this out there in case any benevolent souls wanna lend a hand.

Here's the situation. I'm an overworked pc tech in an understaffed department (I'm sure no one here can relate!) and I frequently receive and ship computer components to/from the vendor as either warranty claims or just straight orders if the part is outta warranty or just something needed. I need a nice neat form to track all this. We also use "Remedy" action request system if you're familiar with that so I'd like to include the remedy ticket number to tie it to the part order. Basically I'd want fields like:
Remedy Ticket number.
Customer name.
Customer phone.
(check box for either "warranty claim" or "part order")
(if "part order" is checked, only the second section should show up......if "warranty claim" is checked then I'll need the whole shebang!

Have you tried the wizard in there yet? It will allow you to get the general part of the database down, and you can customise it later, with the label;s you want. Continue to add to it, and you will start understanding more.

I started that way, creating a databse for my own contact management, and, with help from folks here, got it working, and suited to my specific needs.

I am by no means an Access techie, but I can understand the basics, and some of the advanced, enough to sell and maintain an order database to another contact. I sold it inexpensively but it taught me a lot about database creation.

What I'm trying to say is, it is doubtful that you will get someone here to create it all for you, but you will more than likely get help from people about aspects you are having problems with.

you will also get a bit more experience, and a good feeling about having created something.

Hi guys,
I'm in the process of making a Personnel database for my company and as a preference I'd like to be able to put in an ID shot of each employee.

I think I know what I'm doing as far as embedding the photos and such.
My main concern is the volume of images / size of the files.
We have 100 - 150 members of staff on site, I guess this could rise as high as 200.

I'm thinking of having 2 forms, one for use by the average user and one which is protected, and has more sensitive information such as salaries etc.

The considerations for data protection are the manager's responsibility. At this stage, I just have to come up with an example of how the database might look and work.
At present, I'm thinking of having the name and photo of the employee on the form, with all other details on a tabbed control in categories such as Contact Details, Employment Status, Payroll Info etc.

Due to size, it looks like jpegs are the way to go.

So, my questions:

Has anyone got experience of setting up a similar database? Any advice?

Will I have any speed problems if I have a table of up to 200 jpeg pics? I'm guessing they'll probably be something like 170 x 200 pixels. If they're jpegs, they may be 20Kb each.

Am I better off having the pics in a table, or just have links to a specific files in a folder on HD? I suspect that I'll have to do the donkey work and enter each picture into the database, but I won't be responsible for addin... Read more

Hi Gram,

I'd consider instead storing hyperlinks to the images, and then displaying the images on a given form by using a linked image frame. Access help should be able to explain to you how that's done. In general, storing images in a database is not such a good idea--not only because of size and speed issues (they can slow down searches on the table, etc.), but also because you're basically duplicating a functionality that Windows handles about as well. Access simply isn't an image manager. This article plus Access help should get you going on linking images via file path.

Hi all. I have an Access 2002 form with a Hyperlink field which uses Insert/Hyperlink to browse to the path of a file. If the file is located on the same network share as the database, the hyperlink is automatically inserted as ..\path\filename instead of \\server\share\path\filename. I can't set a hyperlink base or allow users to insert path as a mapped drive because I have no control over where each usergroup will store the database or how users map their drive letters (database will be used by various subconsultants). Any suggestions on how to force the hyperlink to enter the actual UNC path without converting it to ..\ (it seems to mean "relative path" but it gives an error when another user tries to open the link).

I have an active connection I assume when an access database is open.

Can I then open a second connection to the same database using ADO.

I have a table where records are children of other records, in an indefinite number of levels.

On a continuous form; I have a checkbox that when clicked updates that records children's visibility. So enabling a tree like record structure where you can set and unset the visibility of a records children as and when required.

The process is not getting past the connection.open statement. It reports 3706 "Provider cannot be found....."

I have a database that contains records of each cashier and their daily over/underage of their cash drawers.

I want to create a form where I can pull the cashier's name from a drop down list and have all the daily details appear on the screen. Here I would be able to update a previous days variance or create a new detail for the current day.

Know enough about Access to get me in trouble, but am extremely green when it comes to forms. Any assistance as to what I should be looking at would greatly be appreciated.

Please help,

I am at the final throws of my database which I have created for a small call centre. I have 4 simple fields, Date of call, Time Comm, Time End & Duration.
When a call comes into the office, we tick an appropriate yes/no button corresponding to that line number. The date and time column, currently have been set so that when you tick an option for a particular line number, the time & date is automatically set in those fields. When we later type in the end of the call, I would like the duration field be automatically calculated by Subtracting the time end field data with the time start data to get an automatic duration.

Please help.

I work in a small office and we deal with credit card transactions by telephone. Currently, when a customer calls, we record their details on an A5 paper slip which is also fed into a MS Access 97 database. However, to improve accuracy and speed, I have created a new database.

I have 2 tables, no querys and 2 forms.

Table 1: View Credit Card Details
Table 2: Add Transaction

Form 1: View Credit Card Details
Form 2: Add Transactions

When we search for a customer's details by searching via their postcode within the V.C.C.D. form, we are presented with the customer's credit card no, address, tel no etc. My question is this: We would like to add a new transaction (bank authorisation code) without having to re-type all the details and also to prevent us displaying 2 forms. The (bank authorisation code) data would be going to the add transactions table anyway, it's just to prevent having to tab to another window.
Also, when we add that record, would it mean that every time we search for that postcode, would we presented with all the bank authorisation codes first before we could add a new record with same address details etc?

Also, I am using XP and MS Access 2002.

Any help appreciated.

One question: does each transaction have a bank auth code? If this is the only additional information that needs to be added, you could simply add the field into your table, then add it to the form.

I guess I am not entirely clear on the process you use. If you are able to enter the bank auth code at the time you create the Add Transaction record, then it's no problem, the above will work fine.

It's when you bring up the searching that you are going into a part of a process you haven't described before.

What appears when you search on postcode now? I guess I'm assuming the person could already have multiple transactions before the issue of bank auth even comes up....

Bottom line, I guess, is does each transaction have its own bank auth? If so, then just add it to your transaction form? If not, could you provide more details?

Is there a way to use a combo box in a subform so that it searches only the records in that subform that are the child set from the master form? The primary and sub-forms are based on distinct tables with a one-to-many relationship and enforced referential integrity. In other words, I need to be able to search within the subform among only the related subset of records.

What's really annoying about this is the fact that, while the combo box grabs the entire recordset, the navigation command buttons that I added (GoToNextRecord, GoToLastRecord, GoToFirstRecord, etc.) are actually limited to the correct subset of records. I don't get it.

Here's the SQL statement for the row source property on the combo box:
