Google news - generating a report

Q: Google news - generating a report

I work for a charity and we often use a simple google search to get an idea of media coverage that we have generated. Does anyone know if it is possible to generate a report from the results of a google search?
Any tips gratefully received!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Every time I run System Diagnostics it collects the data for 60 seconds and then I am asked do I want to open or save this file:

report.html.

If I save or open it I am greeted with a blank webpage saying navigation cancelled and the System diagnostic screen still says generating report

Any thoughts on why this is happening?

Check in event viewer by typing eventvwr in search. Look in windows logs, application tab.

You are looking for critical errors (they have red in the left column) that have app hang, app crash, or anything relating to the problem.

When you find them pplease note the event ID and source code and tell us what they are.

Let us know if you need help with any of these

Hi, After upgrading from vista to windows 7 i tried to generate a system health report. now , i never had problems with this before, i ran the windows scannow in cmd and all is fine , i checked the performance and logs service and that was started and manual , the reports are being registered in the perflogs folder but the tool used to generate the report in HTML seems to time out and is incapable of generating a report like in vista before the upgrade. By the way i'm running 64 bit home premium windows 7 , asus P5Q motherboard and an ATI Radeon 4850 graphic card, Thanks for any help in solving this y:

Well People, Just to give you some feedback, It seems that the in-place upgrade feature offered to migrate from vista to windows 7 has some flaws. This feature imports files which are somehow corrupted or modified ,which can result in a number of small "glitches".For myself i resolved this issue by doing a clean install and this was the fix.apparently some people do not think that the in-place upgrade should be available ,for this has created a number of small but annoying problems.Best RegardsGreg

I have a HP 630 notebook with win7 Ultimate 64 bit. When I tried to generate a system health report I am getting a time out error. So I went through many threads here about this problem but could not find a solution. Finally I made a clean Install and ran the perfmon.exe and found that I could generate the report. But when I installed the recommended driver Atheros Bluetooth driver(64) from HP's site, the report generation failed and gives time out error. My dilemma is that if I uninstall the bluetooth driver I can run system health report but bluetooth will not work. What am I to do to get both?

A:Perfmon.exe /report not generating after installing bluetooth driver

Here's something from the helpfiles

You can also create a new report for a data collector set by typing perfmon /report "Data_Collector_Set_name" at a command prompt. Typing perfmon /report without any other parameters will generate the System Diagnostics report.

Did you do an in-place Upgrade? Are there other performance problems?

You can try a Repair Install, but the cure for these kinds of failures of in-place Upgrading is a Clean Install.

Hey everyone, long time since I've posted here... I'm trying to pin down why my computer shuts down during normal usage at total random. I haven't made any changes or anything, simply was checking the news on google one day, and the browser hung. So I closed it. Next thing I know my computer shuts down, dwwin.exe pops up saying it fails to initialize, so I'm thinking something is failing but I don't know what.

I'm fairly certain this is some kinda worm or virus, however spybot catches nothing, I've run hijackthis and think I cleared it out ok.., I emptied my cache's, temp files, temporary internet folder, doublechecked my running services and everything. I'm stumped, and really don't feel like a system reinstall. The reason I suspect this is a virus is well, I had system restore points out the *** last time I restored, and now everything is cleared except yesterday's checkpoint. I have it set to checkpoint every day, so something obviously cleared all of the previous files (any way to restore those and I can restore to a previous date?)

For the second weekend in a row, I'm noticing that news.google.com has multiple news items under the Health section that redirect me to a shop.medcom(dot)top website, that MBAM is blocking as Malicious. This is not specific to any browser. The items purport to be from Utah Political Capitol, a legitimate news website (last week it was a different Canadian news site, also legit).
News.google is obviously tailored to my geographic location, as it delivers local news stories. Just wondering if others are also seeing this.

A:news.google hacked?

Confirming that if I attempt to access shop.medcom(dot)top , it is being blocked my MBAM's malicious website protection.
I had an experience several weeks ago, when MBAM was repeatedly blocking legitimate sites that tried, in part, to access img.ed4(dot)net .   I believe the explanation then was that images displayed under this overall URL  could be good or bad (malicious)... so MBAM made the preventative/cautious decision of blocking them all [i.e., even the good ones].   Since I trusted the particular sites that sent me there, I gambled that I could risk telling MBAM to ignore it.   Given that sites can be hacked with drive-by malware, I realize this decision may come back to haunt me some day.  But to the best of my knowledge, nothing bad has happened to me... so far.

Let me start by stating that I've already been to the security "Am I infected?" forums and was kindly assisted by Bloopie over there, and he has thoroughly checked my machine and gave me the go ahead to post over here.

Now the problem:

I am having an issue where a website (my own wordpress store none the less) is redirecting to Google news (https://news.google.com/) every time I type the URL into my browser.  I've tried it with both IE and Edge and have the same problem with both, however it does work with Firefox no issues.  Let me also point out that on my work computer my website opens fine on ALL browsers including IE.

My home machine is Windows 10, my work machine is not (although I don't recall the exact OS).  When I first purchased this computer my website opened fine on IE and Edge, however after a couple months this problem arose.

Occasionally I will encounter a popup before accessing this website.

My McAfee Internet Security will display a warning message upon typing the URL into my browser.

It states "http://185.93.187.90/8b2C may be risky to visit." then asks if I want to accept the risk.  Since this website is my own website, I accept the risk and then it instantly forwarded back to google news again.

I know this is a lot to process, the link to my other thread is here:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/597094/help-website-redirecting-to-google-ne... Read more

A:HELP! - My website is redirecting to Google News!

Whatever code is running on the http://185.93.187.90 is being flagged by browsers as a threat and as a countermeasure your browser will redirect you back to your home page google.com, firefox.com etc. It could be old outdated html, php, flash, SSL certifcates etc. It can also be a hijacked website with malicious code. So basically it can be anything. I didn't enter the website because this is my everyday use system. It's best to access the website with a live cd, or virtual machine just incase. I am sure malware team and others here at BC can spin one up fast and see what it is. I got a crappy laptop here to do that, but i've been having hardware issues with it at the moment. A dead battery that won't hold a charge.

This is a report on Google Desktop search, which I had installed in late spring of this year. It seemed like a handy addition to my Google search capabilities.

My machine (built in early 2006) has lots of resources - 2 GB RAM, 2+ terabytes of HD space, and a dual core AMD processor. But Google search seems to have the potential to really mess up one's system. This will document the problems that it created for me, and also I have asked several questions at the end.

Following the original install, I seemed to be seeing more "error" message boxes, both while I was working, and during the course of shutdown. None of these error messages seemed "catastrophic", and did not really seem to cause any visible problems. They were often related to various memory addresses. And some just flashed by in a fraction of a second during shutdown, not allowing me to even note the title of the box.

I also noted a strange situation in my Task Manager. Normally when I bring it up, and view the performance tab, it will momentarily spike. and then settle down to the baseline, bouncing around 1-4% of CPU usage. But it seemed very high in recent times, never getting below 50-60%. Initially I attributed this to the new versions of several security programs, that I assumed were doing constant scanning et al. But I felt uneasy about this.

A few days ago, my system crashed hard. An error message box came up noting "%systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k", and this me... Read more

Hi there,

Somehow my work email address suddenly started getting this "Top Stories - Google News" spam every 5 minutes or so, all day every day. I never subscribed to this service (my work email address that's getting them doesn't even have an account on here) and cannot seem to unsubscribe from them either.

At least I've managed to set a rule in MS Outlook to automatically delete these emails (although I have to manually empty my deleted box), but I would like to know how I can be removed from getting these constant emails I never asked for in the first place.

I already tried to go in my google account to unsubscribe from google alerts, but there is nothing to remove. My job mailbox (Microsoft Outlook) is not linked with my google account anyway.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Found my solution.

In Outlook, go in the File tab. Under File, you have a menu.

At the right of this menu, you have a square button named Account Settings.

Click on it. À scroll box menu will appear. Click on Account Settings in that menu (first on top).

A window appears. In this window, you have a “RSS Feeds” tab.

Go in it, select the feed and click on the delete button.

I put some pictures. It should help even if it’s in french.

I run Firefox 1.5 with the Customize Google 0.40 extension.

Over the last week it appears that no matter what I do, I cannot connect to the website:
http://news.google.com

If I look at my cookies, I have google.com and groups.google.com, but no cookie for news.google.com.

Could this be a problem because my google cookie tracking has been anonymized and Google has done something to disallow such non-tracking to not have connection access to their website? I believe CustomizeGoogle extension protects against Google's cookie profiling.

I also run GhostSurf Pro and Privoxy, but have not changed anything since before when I was able to view the news.google.com website daily over a week ago.

P.S. I run a WinXP Pro SP2 computer up-to-date with the Microsoft hot-fix patches and am on a 56k dialup ISP account. Also, the connections timeout at about 21 seconds.

Hi All,

Apparently, the IP address I had in my Hosts files was no longer in effect - i.e. by removing it with a comment, the problem was solved.

Also, by removing the entry for the IP address of news.google.com from my Hosts file, this also cures the False Positive given by CWShredder v2.19 from Intermute/TrendMicro which had indicated CWS.Svchost32 as the False Positive generated.

I installed an older version of Adobe Flash plug in and the Google vids are not showing - ONY with IE7 and the expandable vids are playing on FireFox

'Adobe Flash Player Plugin' shows under add or remove programs, but looking for it it seems to be within WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash and within Application data\Macromedia\Flash Player\Macromedia

Is this right? Shouldn't it be under Adobe?

Version is 9.0 - could this be why I'm getting 'Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close'. Almost every time I open techguy forum pages, for one.
This is a new system, IE7 and SP2, and did the Windows express update.

Don't think I want SP3. Could the shutdowns be caused by DivX?

I got hijacked by Buenosearch and had to go through a big process, and now I lost my IE homepage which had news, weather, sports sites, etc, etc, all customized just how I like it........I decided to just stick with Google Chrome, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to set up all this stuff for the home page. I've really tried......all I see are ways to add apps. I don't want apps! Any help appreciated.

A:Solved: Google Chrome: how do I set home page with news, etc?

Did you remove Buenosearch from the computer? (There are free programmes that can detect hijacking programmes hidden in the computer and clean them up if you would like that.)

First step would be to uninstall the hijacker completely which I assume you must have done. To configure the settings for your homepage etc. for Google Chrome, enter in the address bar chrome://settings/.
Also check to make sure it didn't leave behind any add-ons on the browser.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

HelloI am suffering from the same problem as several other people on the forums, so apologies if the answer to my question is already available elsewhere. When using Google in Firefox 3.6.3 the search results are returned as expected, but when I click a link I am not taken where I want to go: instead I end up at a site that looks like Ask Jeeves (I'm not sure if it is the official one, probably not) or a news site. If I type the URL into the address bar I can get straight there. Occasionally Firefox will also open random tabs to those sites even though I have not performed a search. I am not having a problem with pop-ups.I have read through the fixes for others and I have run a complete AVG scan and used their Anti-Rootkit scan. I cleared the cache and deleted all cookies and temp files. The scans came up with nothing. I have also run Malware Bytes Anti-Malware scan which identified 6 files. I followed the instructions to delete them and rebooted my PC normally. I have pasted the log below. After rebooting my PC I did a new search in Google and I was still redirected to the Ask Jeeves-type page so this hasn't worked.I read through the Preparation Guide for Use before Requesting Help and unfortunately I got stuck at point 6: I don't know if I have CD Emulation software. I would appreciate any help you can offer - from what I can tell from other people with the same problem this is just going to get worse so I would really like to crack it as soon as I ca... Hi all,

Thanks for taking a look at my issue.

While browsing in Firefox, I received a Trojan of some sort that was detected by AVG. I moved the threat to Vault and rebooted, which led to my desktop background being changed and some pop-up "fake" virus and spyware notifications.

I rebooted in Safe Mode and ran Malwarebytes AntiMalware which detected a lot of trojans which were then cleaned out. Spybot was also run and items were cleaned out. As of now, both scans run clean with no issues.

However, during browsing, there are also random pop-up browser windows with ads that I immediately close. After performing Google searches, clicking on any results takes me to ad pages rather than the actualresult pages.

I suspect this is a rootkit since other scans do not pick up anything.

I am very computer-literate so please feel free to ask for anything.

DDS.TXT file is below and ark.txt and attach.txt are attached.

A:Random "Breaking News" Browser Pop-ups and Redirects from Google Search Results

Good evening. Download aswMBR.exe from here and save it to your Desktop. Double click the tool to run it. Click the Scan button to, well, start the scan - obvious really! Once the scan reports "Scan finished successfully", which takes less than a minute on my system, click Save log. On my system it offers to save it to the Desktop, which may or may not be it's default behaviour, but it's as handy a place as any. You'll also see a file called MBR.dat appear as well - this is a backup that it created, just in case it's needed. Keep it handy for now.I'd like the contents of aswMBR.txt in your next reply, if you'd be so kind.

In the News app, personalized news can be setup by entering a search string. These are created under Topics.

Does anyone know what filter to add to have the results restricted by date (as only items for the last week) or to change the results filter to "most recent" rather than "best match". These are capabilities of Bing when searching in News on the web. So I thought they could be achieved in the News App as well. Other filters (like domain: ) work when added to the search terms. I don't know whether there is similar filter term for restricting the date of items displayed.

Thanks.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Google Inc. (GOOG)'s privacy practices are the worst among the Internet's top destinations, according to a watchdog group seeking to intensify the recent focus on how the online search leader handles personal information about its users.

In a report released Saturday, London-based Privacy International assigned Google its lowest possible grade. The category is reserved for companies with "comprehensive consumer surveillance and entrenched hostility to privacy."

None of the 22 other surveyed companies - a group that included Yahoo Inc. (YHOO), Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) and AOL - sunk to that level, according to Privacy International.

While a number of other Internet companies have troubling policies, none comes as close to Google to "achieving status as an endemic threat to privacy," Privacy International said in an explanation of its findings.

In a statement from one of its lawyers, Google said it aggressively protects its users' privacy and stands behind its track record. In its most conspicuous defense of user privacy, Google last year successfully fought a U.S. Justice Department subpoena demanding to review millions of search requests.

"We are disappointed with Privacy International's report, which is based on numerous inaccuracies and misunderstandings about our services," said Nicole Wong, Google's deputy general counsel.

http://www.zdnet.com/blog/bott/users-report-microsoft-security-essentials-removes-google-chrome/4006?tag=nl.e589By Ed Bott | September 30, 2011, 9:14am PDTUPDATE 2, 11:15 AM PDT: A Microsoft spokesperson provides the following response via e-mail: On September 30th, 2011, an incorrect detection for PWS:Win32/Zbot was identified and as a result, Google Chrome was inadvertently blocked and in some cases removed from customers PCs. We have already fixed the issue - we released an updated signature (1.113.672.0) at 9:57 am PDT - but approximately 3,000 customers were impacted. Affected customers should manually update Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) with the latest signatures. To do this, simply launch MSE, go to the update tab and click the Update button, and then reinstall Google Chrome. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused our customers. The response does not provide any guidance for Forefront customers who have been affected by this issue. I've also asked for clarification on the "approximately 3,000 customers" figure. If a Forefront installation covering hundreds or thousands of users is counted as a single customer, the actual number of affected PCs could be considerably higher.

A:Users report Microsoft Security Essentials removes Google Chrome

This has been fixed. MSE users should update accordingly. From C-Net.

A few days ago I woke up to a PC riddled with fake anti-Spyware dialogs on my Windows XP machine. The machine runs AVG Free 9 and TeaTimer resident. I ran MalwareBytes and Spybot after renaming the EXE's, as they would not run without being renamed. I did this in both safe mode and standard mode. Several items (I cannot recall what, sorry) were found and the dialogs went away. However, I still could not run these tools without renaming them. After doing some searching on Google to find what the problem may be, I noticed strange redirects to other websites when certain links were clicked and popunders. I also was unable to access several security related sites through the browser, including AVG, etc. I only use Firefox.I've run several scans since with several tools, including Dr.Web, which reports Backdoor.Tdss.565, which it claims it has eradicated, but problems still persist. Other tools have claimed to have found and removed "ernel32.dll." Admittedly, I've also used a couple of other tools to no avail, including TDSSKiller, rkill and ComboFix. I hope the latter does not preclude me from being helped. Thanks in advance. Log files coming shortly...

Dears,I have designed a database with many reports of certain importance. basically a report in my DB is one of two types; a Daily Report (requires a single criteria which is the date) and the second is a History report. To view or print a report, I have designed a Filter form to fill in with the report criteria and clicking a button to open the report. The first type (Daily R) work fine without problems. The second type (History R)has a problem. In this report, the criteria are two or three because a history report will retrieve data within a period, so I have to input (FromDate) and (ToDate)and may be adding another criteria which is called a company. In all history reports, the report header will accomodate the two input values of date and extract the rest of report items into the reprot detail area. The problem is, the desigened system doesnot respond well as expected. When I load the filter form to fill in criteria for a history report, I have input the FromDate and ToDate and selected the third criteria (if any), then, the reprot opens without data in it.on the other hand, I tried to load the report directly form opening it, inputing criteria, and it has worked fine without probelms.Would someone expect a key reason for this problem or dirtecly can solve this problem?Appreciate youtr support. Thanks in Advance.mhegazy

Hello.

I have a report, with 3 sub-reports in. It collects all the data for a particular SiteID. in Each of the sub-reports, there is a cost value. One for Hardware, one for Mobiles, and one for Phone lines. I have fields at the top of report which reflects the values and totals them up. Works great, except:
When i have a SiteID with one of the subforms being empty; i.e no mobiles on the site it displays fine in the report view, but when i go to print or publish as a pdf it strips out the subform with no value, and throws an error in my calculation. I need the calculation there, which means i need it to stop striping out the subform with no value. I however cannot see how to do this...its just bugging me, its fine inthe report view, just when you send it to print.

Would grateful for some help,

Thanks Mike
