Blank screen, also blank during bootup(had Vundo)

Q: Blank screen, also blank during bootup(had Vundo)

Got vundo and some months after that my screen was blank during bootup but came on when it got into windows. It shows at the very start of boot(where all the comp info is and some american logo) and then gradually goes black in about 2 seconds. Some more months after that, one day my screen was all blank and showed 'out of range' error. Then i booted into safe mode, ran online virus scanner and deleted about 15 entries of vundo. After that windows worked again but was still blank suring boot.
Another ting i also noticed that while an old game - IWD2 worked fine, when i enter IWD1 my screen immideatly goes blank and stays until i exit and restart monitor.when i restart monitor while ingame it similarly shows the picture for 2 seconds and then fades. However it works flawlessly while in windowed mode! I tried 640x480, 256 colors and compatibility modes - no use.
Same thing is when 3dmark03 is done with the 4 game tests and restarts itself to game test 1 my screen goes blank.
my monitor is also an old crt so i dunno what it could be.

I got the vundo probably from using internet explorer 6.0 :) anyway i fixed it and installed 8.0

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I dug out an old monitor from my old desktop computer a while back and hooked it up as a secondary monitor to my Dell inspiron 8100. Everything worked fine for a couple of weeks. Last night I turned on the laptop, the Dell startup screen appeared, then it went into the 'loading WinXP Home' screen...and it stayed there. After about 10 minutes of waiting, I shut it off.

I rebooted and chose to restart from the last know working condition or whatever. It started up like usual (Dell screen...to WinXP loading screen...) and then it all went black. I can tell the screen is still on because I can see the light.

It seems to go black while at the Welcome screen (I have multiple accounts on the computer). I can find my way around with the keyboard and get into Windows or shut it down even though the screen is black. However, even if I log into Windows, the screen remains black. It continues to do this each time I boot up.

I've looked through most of the threads on the Dell forums and none of the mentioned solutions worked. I tried the Fn+F8 / Fn+F5, I ran the diagnostic disc - no errors, I unplugged the external screen jsut to check..nothing...

I tried booting up in safe mode -- that works. However, I don't know what to chage, if anything. I can also boot it up in VGA mode and everything seems to work fine except that I get an error message about the NvCpl.dll file being messed up or something. Try switching monitors. If it does the same thing, the next logical step would be to switch your video card and test.

im putting together a new machine mainly from parts lying around, an just booted up for the first time. everything gets power but i get nothing on screen, no bios, nothing .

ive systematically gone through most of the parts... removed an tested ok the gfx card. (thought it may have been gfx as nothing at all on screen)have put in RAM which i know works. DDR from my regular machine (cant test the RAM from the new machine in the old one tho as new machine takes SD & DDR whereas the old one just takes DDR ).

all that really leaves me with is the motherboard & the cpu. the motherboard is brand new so would be inclined to think that should be ok.

the cpu i bought second hand, & havent seen workin so this would seem more likely.

or is there any way it might be a setting somewhere im missing?

help would be appreciated

Good afternoon all.

First, the system I am working on is pretty much this one here:

Except running the 8600 GT instead of the 8800 GT.

The system has always been a little quirky, but the other day the booting sequence displayed BOOTMGR was missing. It wouldn't have been too difficult to deal with, except that the primary user had changed the BIOS password (and promptly forgotten it), and subsequently the boot order could not be modified.

To reset these settings, we removed the system battery and let the charge dissipate overnight, but in the morning, neither of the monitors would display, well, anything.

The system comes on and sounds as though its operating properly, although it doesn't look as though it processes very much before (as, of course, I imagine it still doesn't have the BOOTMGR to run).

I've checked for loose connections, dirty leads, and removed all non-essential components (HDs, drives, cards, etc) for even just getting into the Pheonix bios, but neither monitor works on it (and yet works properly with other computers). These were mostly just precautions to ensure that it wasnt one of these that affected it.

I haven't had much luck with it since. It still isn't functioning. Anyone else have some insight?

A:Blank Screen on Bootup

Have you tried putting your hard drive in as a slave drive in another computer then sorting out the bootmgr from there, might do the trick.
Also when you took the cards out have you checked to see your video card is ok?
Might be something to look at if it can run in one of your other pc's to see what happens with it.
Also, if you go to the manufacturer of your motherboard and download the users manual for it, this will tell you how to access your bios and remove the password even when you don't know it.
Hope this is of use to you.

Putting together a new system. I was getting a video display and working on connecting my hard drives when I stopped getting a video display.

My Sony Monitor goes to the power saving mode.

I have tried clearing the cosmos, tested using different monitor and video card, loosened and tighted scrws, reset memory and CPU fan.

I am using a Shuttle AK32 v,2.1 but I see a label on one of the ports that says Shuttle AK35.

My board does not exactly match the diagram for the 32 or the 35.

It has a VT233A chipset and I am using an ATI 64 AGP video card.

I have never flashed a bios. I do not get any beeps from the computer although the fans go and the drive ights flash.

I am wondering if I need to install a bios and also how I can verify which board I was actually shipped.

Or any other suggestions that might shed light on the subject.

A:Blank Screen Bootup

I found the name of the board. It is a AK35GT, and the chipset is VIA KT266A. Bios is bult i 2MB Flash ROM Award PnP Bios DMI 2.3

I don't know what that means. It seems hard to find information on this board which arrived without a manual> I haven't found a site for downloading the manual yet but there is a reveiw on this site.

I was installing a new Maxtor 160 gig drive and my smaller maxtor old drive (40 gig) which I was going to copy on to the new drive. I was trying to get the master /slave working. The system had recognized both drives independently and I thought Ihad the relationship right, when the video display vanished. I tried disconnecting the drives, which didn't solve anything. For the moment I just have the larger drive connectd, which is set up as the master drive.

hello. i have a problem with my 32 bit Vista Home Premium Machine. Its been happening since the start of purchase, and i was wondering if you could help out. When I start up, every thing is perfectly normal, Intel screen -> Microsoft Corporation Loading ->, then this is where the fun ends. At the logon screen, The Windows logo with the annoying sound comes up bigger than normal, just like in safemode. and then the screen goes black, as I am not admin, i can login by clicking the right arrow once as my name is second, my wallpaper will come up pixelated, and zoomed, No icons no nothing. This can be sorted. Shut Down -> BIOS MODE -> Load Optimised Defaults -> Save And Exit. Usually this works if not first time maybe second, Vista works fine afterwords. Is there a real way to sort this out as it is getting very annoying going through many steps to start up. thanks

Hi Mark,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I?m sorry to hear that your A730 All-In-One is displaying black screen before booting windows and as suggested re-installing the display driver should resolve the issue. While installing the driver right click on the downloaded file and select ?Run as administrator? option to get it installed without any error.
Do post us back if the issue persists.

Hello all!
I'm a kinda new PC tech (been dealing w/ PCs most of my life, but only been doing tech support the past couple years), and I've been working on an older couple's machine the past few days. The issue they've had is that, very occasionally, the PC will lose video; the monitor simply says "No signal". From what they've said, the PC is still running while this happens, though they have to turn it off for it to come back up. They said it even happens sometimes when they try to start the PC up; power comes on but no post appears on the screen, only the No Signal. From what I can guess, this indicates an issue in the hardware (my guesses were the mobo, cpu, gpu, or ram) but I have yet to even be able to duplicate the issue (and I've had the system in my shop for three days now). Memtest86+ revealed no errors in the memory, and I ran stress tests on the CPU and GPU (w/ Prime95 and MSI Kombuster, respectively), but everything seems to run fine (though the GPU idles at ~65C degrees, but I've read this isn't unheard of in an 8500GT, and even in the stress test, it didn't exceed 81C degrees). I opened the case up and made sure no components were loose or fried; the mobo is not touching the case, everything looks OK in there. I haven't ruled out overheating, though, because the room they keep it in is a TINY little workspace (more like a large walk-in closet w/ an outer window), and there's only about 3 fans in th... Hello all,

Ive have a Windows Vista HP laptop for over a year now, no problems whatsoever. Today, I was watching a DVD, minimized it, then my screen froze on me while the movie kept playing. I couldn't do anything then the desktop went black and couldn't do anything from there. I had to hard reboot and while it was rebooting, there was a blank screen for most of the bootup and it was very slow. Once i got onto the desktop, I kept getting this error messages saying how various programs of mine stopped working (Cryptographics, windows defender, etc). It was slow for about 10 minutes then it seemed to work fine. I restarted and I still get the same slowness, error messages. It's not completely broke as I'm using it to write this post but there is definatly something wrong here. I've done virus scans and nothing as popped up. I've tried spy bot to scan spyware and it seems to mess with Vista and make the issue worse. However when I scanned I found lots of problems.

So my question is, and sorry for being long, but has anyone encountered a similar problem or knows of a fix? Also, could someone recommend a good anti spyware program. Like I said, this is the first problem in a year and half since i got it...all stemming from watching a DVD. Thanks for your time!

My laptop is pretty new and still under warranty, but i'm hoping it's an issue I can fix myself. Basically when the laptop is turned on or restarted, it stops at a completely blank screen, the lights around the power on button and the other lights around the laptop come on but nothing happens with the screen (no flickering cursors like i've seen mentioned elsewhere). The led for the hard drive flickers up but stops, I get a whirr from the dvd drive as well, but no activity with the screen what so ever.

I did attach another monitor to the laptop and when I did so, the hard drive led flickered into life and then shortly after the screen of my laptop started to work lighting up (I believe that would be the backlight coming on?), though I don't see the normal loading windows vista bar on the laptop screen but I do on the external monitor then the normal login screen appears and everything is fine with the laptop thereafter. The external monitor can be safely removed and I won't have issues again until I either have to turn of the laptop or restart it.

I have a feeling it might be a faulty bios loading things up in the wrong order, though I don't understand how attaching the external monitor corrects this. Anyway any help would be very much appreciated as I would rather try and sort it myself than go through sending it back to the manufacturer.

Hey guys, thanks in advance for any help or advice (I'm currently compiling my zip).

I don't know what the cause of the problem is, but I have some ideas. I will start by explaining the problem, and how it arose.

Playing Minecraft, I mined some dirt and horizontal blue lines / squigglies appeared on my screen. Moments computer went to BSOD, but then rebooted normally. Tried again, and the same problem occurred. I've played Minecraft before; but it could have something to do with the new update.

I recently installed windows recommended updates, the problem had not occurred before this. I also recently installed Daemon Tools Lite. I don't think it's a software conflict...

I got the blue lines, but my computer did not shut its self off. After a few moments I manually powered down. After waiting I attempted to reboot: The screen turned on, but displayed only black. I took out my battery, rams, hd, and unplugged for a while. After replacing, it booted up and the screen worked.

Prompted to initialize windows repair prior to bootup, I accepted. Not long into the diagnostic vertical green/brown lines appear. Computer did not crash... Diagnosis found no problem. Started it up, ran some freeware diagnostic tool, and it crashed halfway through. Boot up = black screen. Took out hd, let it cool down, replaced, pc boots up.

I read that it could be a power supply problem causing this. Is it possible? To me it doesn't make much sense, but the DC adapter did fail to w... Read more

A:Blue Horizontal / Green Vertical lines = BSOD / Blank Screen Bootup.

A registry scan indicates many errors. Fixing these help or cause more problems? I've never done it before.
Running sfc scans now [picked up nothing, ran 2x], then will update graphics card. Will post results.

Sorry if this thread was jumping the gun on an easy solution... but when it didn't want to start up the first few times, I became quite concerned.

After uninstalling my my nvidia drivers, before re-installing, the blue lines popped up again after the required reboot. This time they didn't cause the computer to crash, so I shut it down. I'm going to wait a while, as this seemed to be a temporary fix for the problem last time, and then install the new driver.

After waiting a boot resulted in the all-too familiar Black Screen (no splash, dos writing, or mouse pointer. But light is emitting from screen). I'm going to shut it down, and leave it off for a few hours (give it proper time to cool off).

Hello Fellow Forum Surfers,

I was wondering if its just my computer or perhaps I did something wrong once on the keyboard. My computer takes a long time to boot up, whether I start from a power off state or merely restarting after installing a program. Here's the sequence that I timed with a stop watch:

Switched ON: start at 0 second

Bios Screen flashed: 3 minutes 54 seconds after Switched ON

Loading Windows XP Pro Screen: 4 minutes 5 seconds from Switched ON

Windows Log ON Screen: 4 minutes 28 seconds from Switched ON

I'm using an HP Pavilion 8853
Pentium 3, 1 Ghz

All my drivers appeared OK. Between Switch ON and Bios Screen flashed, my monitor is blank, the hard disk light remained ON but without the usual hard disk noise (it is normally noisy which I didn't mind.) Once it got to BIOS splash screen, it just zipped to Windows Log On Screen without a hitch. The problem is during the time between Switched ON and BIOS Flash Screen. It's a mystery to me why it has to do this. This almost four minutes of delay is rather long.

Please post your comments whether you think it will work or not. I will appreciate it and will try it, anything to remove this 4 minutue delay.

Best regards to all,

Ran into some odd computer problems today, any assistance would be fantastic.

PC / OS / Browser Info:
Dell Optiplex (bought from DiscountPC.com)
P4 1.99GHz, 512mb RAM, 40GB HD
Win XP (OEM) ver 2002, SP2
Firefox v3.0.3
IE v6.0.2900.2180

Overview Problems:
1.) Windows login password shows "IIIII" instead of the encrypted dots to indicate a password
2.) Random Outlook emails appear completely blank
3.) Google homepage on IE is completely blank, other various pages do not fully load, but work in Firefox
4.) Button text on some apps (Auslogics defrag) are completely gone
5.) Various system hangs

The computer worked fine until today. It was original purchased as a frugal replacement for an existing broken office PC.

Methods tried:
1.) Defrag/registry defrag, auslogics apps missing button text
2.) Ran AVG Virus scan (buttons missing text), to no avail, wouldn't run
3.) System restored to yesterday, and then to a week ago, to no avail
4.) Visited various tech support sites that suggested to run various REGSVR32 commands in Start -> run to no affect
5.) Ran IEFix app which was suggested might bring back broken IE components
6.) Explored Device manager, nothing is apparently wrong with any devices

This is about the extent of my IT knowledge. I would much prefer a way to fix other than formatting - I'm not even certain a format would fix the problem.

Any suggestions? Any more information I could provide? Have no idea what it could... Read more

I've just been setting up my new laptop today. After I installed AVG it said it had picked up a virus, which it moved to the virus vault and after that I went to the vault to delete it. I couldn't see what the virus was because oddly all the spaces where it usually had the virus file name were blank, but I pressed delete anyway and AVG popped up a big long blank window. Same sort of thing happened in the middle of trying to update AVG. I also had trouble with blank buttons and blank windows everywhere while I was trying to install other anti malware software - even the Start button in the menu bar was blank. I did a system restore, and that seemed to get rid of the problem and then I installed AVG again and it all started going wrong again. I can't do Google searches because all the results are blank. The computer can't detect Norton, which is already installed, it's trying to install the ccCommon file when it starts up. So something must be wrong.

EDIT: New development - I had left the laptop on, and when I just looked at it it had restarted by itself and had up a funny screen and said it was checking itself for drive consistency. I just turned the computer off because I have no idea what on earth it was doing and didn't want it to stuff up more.

I ended up turning it back on and letting it do the drive consistency check, though this didn't show up anything. I then uninstalled all Norton components including removing registry entries, and removed the other programs I had just installed (AVG, AdAware, ZoneAlarm, Yahoo Messenger - there might have been a few more too). Norton took forever to uninstall, I have a feeling it might have been up to something. I then ran a couple of registry and cache cleaners and they fixed a lot of stuff. During the whole process of constantly restarting the computer every so often, the drive consistency check came up a few more times - only once did they find something (I think they were AVG files). Anyway, this is what the log looks like now, and everything seems to be working. Does anyone know what causes these drive consistency checks? (They're not appearing at the moment, but they were being pretty sporadic before I did a lot of fixes). And is there anything more that can be fixed before I try installing all my regular programs again? (Norton was preinstalled already - I won't be reinstalling it!)

When I bring up Internet explorer many websites will not display correctly. For instance here http://xbox360.ign.com/ much of the page will display properly, but the headline story will not. Also when the advertisement/redirect page comes up when you first click on the page(sometimes it doesn't) the advertisement will not come up nor will it redirect to the main page. If I click on link buttons nothing happens, a regular link works fine, just not the button style ones(I guess buttons is a good description heck I dunno)

Also when I go to web based mail pages much of the page will display, but the body of e-mails will not. When I use IM, such as Yahoo messenger, I can bring up the program and type in messages but the message window that displays replies remains blank. I can neither see my message or the persons reply.

I tried system restore both in regular windows and safe mode and it is BLANK. I was told to go to RUN and type in "regsvr32 /i mshtml" but when I do it I get "mshtml was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found, mshtml does not appear to be .DLL or .OCX file" So what now???

I know when this started I loaded a game and was asked to load some strange messenger program(something or other X) for chatting with other gamers during online matches. I loaded it by accident and un-installed and deleted it. Since then I cannot use messenger or internet explorer.

Working on a Compaq Presario 5000 series desktop.
Windows XP
AMD 750mhz

The machine was working (I used it myself) before I moved it to my apartment. Someone gave me a working video card so I replaced the current video with the new one (no on board video). After hooking it all up I turned on the machine to see only a blank monitor (no boot screen even). However the speakers that were plugged in played the windows sound, so I know it's getting to windows. Thinking that the new video card was bad, I replaced it with the old video card, this time when I turned it on the power light flashed for a second then nothing. Another push of the button resulted no powerlight and nothing else. Thinking the powersupply had gone bad I replaced it. Now it's back to the original problem with the monitor being black when I use either video card (both AGP by the way). For the record, the monitor is getting power and I did hook up another monitor to see if it had gone bad, it hadn't. I also went to the Compaq website and tried using their method to clear the bios (using the keyboard) it didn't work.

Can anyone help me with this?

The Windows Update happened three times. 1st had about 20 different updates, I rebooted with no problems. 2ns had 35 updates including IE 7, rebooted with no problems, 3rd time had 47 updates, rebooted and now my desktop is blank. My Pen Tablet (mouse) works but I don't see any icons or the START bar. My programs still work because when I open the Windows Task Manager and choose New task, I can browse for programs.

Surfing thru other threads in this forum, I thought maybe I had a virus or malware...just have never had any error messages. so I downloaded and ran these program scans: WPFind3u, VundoFix, AntiSuperspyware. Scans came up with no find of malicious stuff, but my desktop was visible afterwards. I shut down the computer for the night and turned it on again and the same thing is happening. Is this a software or hardware issue? I'm thinking that maybe my System Fonts are corrupted, but I don't know. I've even tried starting up in safe mode. I get a black screen there--no icons on desktop.

Hi guys,I have a problem with a Lenovo G780, Windows 7 64bit OS. After installing all necessary drivers - I saw there are two graphic cards - one Nvidia Geforece GT680 and another Intel HD4000. Whenever I bootup with both enabled, the laptop will hang. I had to boot up in Safe Mode, disable the Intel HD 4000 graphic driver and reboot - it will start up normally BUT the HDMI will not work when I plug in a HDMI cable into the socket. My TV will display "no signal".But when I enable the Intel HD 4000 driver and reboot the laptop, the laptop will start, then screen blank, my TV will show a blank screen with the 1600x900 resolution setting but remained blank, and laptop will freeze. Help! This is driving me insane! Note: this is a freshly formatted unit.

I just hooked up my Dad's new Dell Inspiron 660s PC with Windows 7 to his Acer AL2216W monitor. When the computer boots, the screen goes blank right after the "Starting Windows" appears with the the message "No Signal" and the screen stays blank for over 60 seconds. Then the Windows desktop appears and finishes the boot process. This happens whether I use an analog VGA cable or a DVI-to-HDMI cable. The Dell Inspiron has an i3-3220 processor with built-in Intel 2500 graphics. It almost looks like the monitor goes into standby mode for 60 seconds because the monitor light turns from green to amber. Any suggestions as to how to fix this? I had tried this new computer on my old Viewsonic VP191b monitor and this problem did not occur.

A:Acer Monitor goes Blank for 60 Seconds during Windows 7 Bootup

I would look at the settings on the Acer monitor. Something must be out of norm. Look at the power savings mode and such. Maybe it has a setting where you can reset it to factory defaults.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that 'Display the contents of system folders' is checked. If you have Windows XP, the search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that 'Search system folders', 'Search hidden files and folders', and 'Search subfolders' are checked.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

This is a HP G70-227CL notebook pc, he has had it for a little over a year. He was on his email today and all of a sudden it went to a black screen and froze up. He rebooted it and when it restarted it gave us two options to restart normally or to let it fix the problem which was recomended and so we let it fix it.
It sat for about an hour or more with a black screen while we waited finaly changed to a dark blue then light blue then finally a box came up and wanted us to click on a opering drive below to fix the problem, but there was no operating drive listed in the box below.
It then said in the bottom to click load if nothing there, so we clicked load and it wanted us to insert an installation disk to load the drive and he had never got no instalation disks when he purchased the laptop. It took him about 20 min before he could get out of it, it was moving very very slow and not wanting to respond. It ended up shutting itself off and when it came back on it asked us again which option we wanted we tried the normal hoping it would give us something besides a blank screen, it started to come on normally then it jumped back to the first screen to give us the options again. it ended up deciding for itself to do the recomended option before we could click on anything and went back to a black screen. That is how it sits now, we have a white mouse arrow on the screen we can move around, it dont act frozen no more, but al lit has is a black screen.

A:I've lost all icons and files, desktop is blank, start menu blank

Run the unhide.exe utility. (i think it has been updated to handle this, but:

After running the unhide tool you may still be missing most of your start menu shortcuts? They can be found in a folder named smtmp inside:

(XP)- C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temp
(W7)- C:\Users\(Username)\AppData\Local\Temp
These will be there unless you have removed temp files / folders

There might be three numbered folders inside C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Temp\smtmp folder. The folders will be numbered 1, 2 and 4.

Inside the 1 folder is a folder named ?Programs.? This folder should be copied / pasted to (using XP) to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu, which will already have a folder named Programs but it is safe to overwrite it since Windows will replace the subfolders without creating duplicates.

Inside the 2 folder are the quick launch items specific for the user. Select ALL of these shortcuts and copy / paste to (using XP) C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch.

Inside the 4 folder are the desktop items that should be copied to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop.

For Windows 7 users, the all users start menu is C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and the all users desktop folder i... Read more

Hi guys

I have been searching google to see if more people are having the same problems as me but it seems like I am on my own.

Firstly some info about my computer:

Windows 7 64bit
Chrome is main browser but I have also tried Explorer and Firefox with no success
Using AVG AV and windows FW

1. I am trying to access the CCBill website by typing in www.ccbill.com into the address bar. All I get is a blank page on all three browsers.

I have checked with http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com and the site is working for them. It also works on my iPhone so this leads me to the logical conclusion that something is amiss on my PC.

2. The second issue, which I think must be linked to whatever is going on in issue 1 is that there are some email links that I can't click on.

For example, Tesco (grocery retailer), send me emails every week with regards to my shopping. This week it was:

So I clicked on the "here" hyperlink and again I get a blank page like this:

Hopefully you guys can help me out with this.

Thank you for your time.

A:Blank Pages and Blank Links Issue (Really weird)

Sounds like you are missing some runtimes...

Go to www.ninite.com and put a checkmark next to each box under the "Runtimes" section (should be 5, maybe 6 items to check). Then scroll down a little and click "Get Installer". Download and save the file, and then run it after closing all of your browsers.

It will download the checked items (Silverlight, Java, Air, Shockwave, and .NET) if they are not currently installed, or if the version you have installed is out of date. Once everything is installed (you can ignore anything that says "skipped - up to date"), open your browser and try the website again.

Yesterday my laptop had a hard fall. I have a HP Pavilion dv2000, its about 4 yrs old. The screen was cracked so i plugged in another monitor & was still able to use it. It worked normally. But then today i turned it on & my entire desktop was blank. My documents, downloads, music, etc is all blank. Even my favorite links on the left side is blank too. If i press 'Restore Favorite Links' it just blinks, then nothing. But the weird thing is if i search a file, for example mozilla, then its there. So all my files are still there but just cant be seen ? :/

Oh another thing, there's this pop up that comes up as soon as i turn on the computer.
'Data Already In Use
The data required by Compaq Connections is still engaged by user O.o
Proceed here instead or Exit.

The Proceed here button said attempt failed no matter how many times i try. I don't know if this has anything to do with the blank desktop. The weirder thing is I'm the only user on my laptop, don't even have a guest account. Everything still works the same but the blankness everywhere is freaking me out.

Please help.

A:Blank Desktop, blank start menu...

Run UnHide.exe to view your hidden files.

"Compaq Connections'' is a service that automatically sends you support information, tips, ideas, and special offers from HP and our partners, especially designed for HP/Compaq desktop PC owners. It can also deliver on-line surveys that allow you to provide feedback to HP"
Compaq Connections is not needed. Disable it. Or go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs uninstall Compaq Connections.

To just Disable 'Compaq Connections' using the MSCONFIG utility.
Click Start> Run> then type 'msconfig' (without the quotations) > click on the Start Up tab.
Find the Compaq Connections entry and uncheck the box

Note: Upon reboot you'll get a notice that you have used the System Config Utility to change your system settings, just check the box that says 'don't show this message again'. (It'll go away on it's own after a few reboots.)

I tried drivers and such, checked the printer settings and the printer says nothing is wrong. I'm trying to print out word documents, but every time I do, the page either comes out completely blank or very, very sketchy (the words on the sides of the page appear, then fades away to nothing in the middle).

The entire document can be printed if the colour ink catridge is removed (which is odd, considering the document contains nothing but black text in the first place), however, the printed page is slightly sketchy (thin horizontal white lines go over the entire page, but it's not as bad as trying to print with the colour ink catridge inside.)

Any thoughts?

Maybe together we can find an answer or common thread to this .att file extension. Could you contact the sendors and find out what email program they are using and see if they are using

Hi there,

I've recently had some issues with my Vista OS, I have home premium and have installed SP2. It's easier if I give a quick bit of background as it may help explain the problem.

Basically today it started freezing on the 'welcome screen' after boot up, after i'd entered my password for my account, for some reason it wouldnt load the desktop and just froze. I restarted a few times and got it to work, then deleted my password and other accounts so now it seems to go through to the desktop ok.

Trouble is something seems to have happened - my desktop was reset to default, all the factory settings seem to have been reset and although the programs and documents were still there my file associations and preferences were completely reset.

Now the left panel on the startup menu is completely blank and I can't drag any pins on to it, despite the requisite properties boxes being ticked. Recent items is blank too. Also when I right click on the desktop and go down to 'new', it is 'empty'. No 'new folder, new txt document' etc.

Has anyone got any ideas how I can fix this or have any idea what might have happened to my OS?

Thanks very much in advance

I can see the screen if I start in safe mode, in fact I'm using the PC in safe mode as I type this.

I did hae a similar problem in the past with another Toshiba laptop and that was windows 8, the issue was connected with power save settings but I've tried all of those and no luck. Also tried the remove battery suggestions, nothing has worked.

I'm guessing windows has done an update that is causing this but I'm at a loss and google has turned up nothing.

I have a problem. My office has many labs, but from a single lab when someone prints a word document onto a particular printer, it gives out an extra blank page. This blank page is not seen in the print preview unlike which was discussed in the previous forums.

This problem has been encountered only for word documents but not for .pdf files. I have tried even with a single page of word printing, it gives out another blank page. Can anyone resolve this problem. I dont think its the problem with the printer because it works well with other labs and .pdf files from this lab too. Anyways its a HP Laserjet 5SiMX.

A:Word document prints an extra blank page but that blank page is not seen in preview

Is the printer in question the default printer for the PC in that lab? Print preview shows how the document would appear based on the settings of the default printer - using another printer can cause changes such as this.
