I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

ComboFix downloaded from bleepingcomputer throws an NSIS error (v 11.10.1.3 and 11.9.30.5).

When downloaded from infospyware, it runs successfully, but is an older version (11.9.26.2).

OS: XP Professional
Browsers: IE8 and Firefox on a non-infected machine. Caches cleared.

The target machine has been infected with Open Cloud Security. The older version of ComboFix deleted a number of infected files including some rootkit stuff, but I am concerned that without the latest version, some components may have been missed. The Open Cloud authors have apparently been modifying their strategy, as much of the advice online refers to component names that were not present in my case.

ComboFix was downloaded on a non-infected machine and transferred via USB stick.

I'm not using any downloading programs and i have tried downloading through firefox, ie7, and opera.

I'm virtually certain that's not a Windows error message, and for some odd reason almost all of the hits I get when searching for it point to French forums. If you're unable to find what add-on may be linked with that message, I'd suggest testing what happens when you boot to [safe mode + net] and attempting a download/install from there.

My hard disk crashed , so I just installed a new disk, therefore I have a fresh computer. I was trying to download all my programs again , Winamp namely, when I got this error.
I keep getting an NSIS Error, saying:

The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete. This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus.

You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy.

It may be possible to skip this check using the /NCRC command line switch (NOT RECOMMENDED).

Normally I would assume it was a failed download, but it keeps happening with different files and different programs. I don't even know what my installer program is!

After downloading the bittorrent installer I tried to run it and got the "NSIS Error" which said that the file was either incomplete or corrupt. I am not sure if it is my computer or my internet connection because I downloaded a video as well and it did not run properly, it freezes in several places. The NSIS error happened when I tried installing the Azureus client and WinAmp.

I went to this site...

http://nsis.sourceforge.net/Why_do_I_get_NSIS_Error

And I tried all that stuff. I turned off my AVG anti virus, I turned off my NVidia firewall... I did a harddrive check.

I don't know what else to do to fix this problem.

It effects basically all the installers that I download. I effects some other downloads too.

Please help, anyone!

heyo,

i am running xp home edition, and it keeps telling me the following whenever I try to run a .exe that is an installation file:

NSIS error

The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incopmlete.
This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download, or a virus.

By installer, it means the unravelling software such as Nullsoft, correct? I mean, all these files worked yesterday and now not one of them produces. The antivirus software is showing a clean system now, although there was a virus at one time. Is the virus still there wreaking havoc via installation files, or are they all permanently damaged somehow? All the .rbo files, whatever they are, are no longer present for the installation files - what do they do?

ThanX

AutoRuns will show you what it set to run on startup. If it's an erroneous installer launch I'd check the RunOnce first. Typically that's set and then the machine is rebooted so the installer can get at files before they're locked by the system.

I've got a new Sony Vaio with Win 7 64-bit. I have made a D-partition where I've moved all my personal files to (pics, documents & stuff).

Now, when I try to install VLC Player I get a NSIS Error: "Error writing temporary file. Make sure your temp folder is valid." What is this, and how do I fix it?

A similar thing happens with Windows Update. It finds a new update for me, but after I've installed the update it finds the same update again and wants to install it. I must have installed the same update 20 times by now!

And when I download a new Vaio update I extract it, but the installationprogress never starts.

Don't know if I've moved some important file from the registry or something? I use CCleaner, maybe that's got something to do with it..

Hi guys,

I have this error on my computer since last month and I can't find what causes this problem. Well it started when my friend brought a flash disk that has a virus (since my antivirus is not yet updated) and it infects my computer. I tried installing new updated antivirus form my flash disk and the NSIS error pop up on my screen. Also other installer (e.g video, optimizer, etc.) also had the error. This happens only on my flash disk because installer that is already on my Hard Drive and CD are not having this kind of error and it installs the program automatically, unlike in my Flash Disk NSIS error appears.

My question is could it be on the USB port causing the trouble or my BIOS is already corrupted due to virus infection. Thanks a lot in advance.

The first thing to address is scanning for malware. McAffee is finding something when the color flash takes place. It should have created a log to tell you what it found. See if you can find it.Next, I suggest you run a Windows One Care Free ScanGo to Windows Live Onecare Free Scan (using Windows Explorer only)It will say "Get a free PC safety scan"http://safety.live.com/site/en-us/default.htmMake sure you click "Full Service Scan" in the middle of the page and not the "Try It Now Free" on the right side.Allow it to download the Active X components.Choose "Complete Scan" in the window that opensClick "Next"Do not click on anything else that offers you a free trial or to sign up if you live in the US.Allow it to scan - it may take quite, maybe two hours or so depending on how big your hard drive is and how fragmented your registry and drive are.Reboot.The following from Microsoft may help:Windows Installer CleanUp Utilityhttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301Windows Installer downloadWindows 2000; Windows XPWindowsInstaller-KB893803-x86.exe is the redistributable package for installing or upgrading Windows Installer.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=enWindows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803/en-usThe Windows Installer Service could not be accessedhttp://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q110722Did that resolve the issue?

Hi there.

Wonder if someone could offer any advice regarding this problem my mate is having with his laptop. It's quite an old one ......

Everytime I try to install anything on his laptop I get this message;

"NSIS Error

The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete. This could be the result of a damaged disk, failed download or a virus"

I have installed all of these on my own desktop PC and they work fine.

He is very low on disk space (around 3% available) and plans to uprgrade this soon but, in the meantime is there any way to install a couple of very small anti ad-ware/spyware progs on his system? I'm talking things like adaware/ewido ..... even HijackThis won't install - Surely they should even with only around 1.5 gb free space?

Here's his spec;

Windows XP (SP 1)
mobile AMD Athlon XP 2000+
663MHZ
480mb RAM

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers!!

G'Day abrasive_elbow,

I hate to say this, but the time has now come for two 'quantum leaps' to occur with the laptop.

Firstly, I would recommend defrag the HDD; then, back up all your important data to disc or other devices; then, upgrade the HDD, which you are already aware is going to be necessary, and

Secondly, install SP2, as Microsoft are going to cease supporting those that don't have SP2 in the next couple of months.
This upgrade will probably address all the issues that you are experiencing at the moment; however, I think that you'll need the HDD upgrade first, because SP2 is fairly big, and besides the lessser amount of HDD space you have, the harder the machine and OS will have to perform to operate.

In the meantime, I'd recommend AVG Ant-virus Free Edition, as it doesn't take up too much space...here's the link...

http://www.grisoft.com/doc/289/lng/us/tpl/tpl01

Hope this helps...please post back.
Kind Regards,
Dave T.

A:NSIS error -- maddening!

Have a look in your Common Files folder and see if you have a folder called NSIS Media. If so, you are infected with a very stubborn piece of adware. Deleting it, and uninstalling it will not work. It morphs back after several re-boots.

X-Cleaner purportedly disinfects it. There's a couple of versions. I think the free version cleans it out.

Also, from what I have found, there is some association with WinAmp and or FireFox...FYI

Edit- I just re-read your thread. I, perhaps, posted too quickly. Sounds like a different problem. Anyhow, I'm leaving mine posted just-in-case.

Hi, It's an error associated with a bad installer of "X" program> hard sometimes to pinpoint exactly which one.

I had this same type of error when closing the last IE browser window, and I just fixed it after reading some things about it.

I had uninstalled AVG free edition, in order to install the newer AVG 7.5 version, but it hung up, so I was thinking that would be the problem but it turned out to be something else! Read on!

I downloaded the new copy, then closed all other windows, and
went to Add/Remove Programs and uninstalled SiteAdvisor, reinstalled with the new download, and no more NSIS error!

I did recall getting some kind of error in SiteAdvisor, but it was in Firefox, when I updated, the SiteAdvisor extension no longer was supported...so, I suppose that's what did it.

There are other things to try.... if not using SiteAdvisor, post back and I will see what we can get you.

I can not download anything without getting this pop-up box that says:
NSIS Error
The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete. This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download, or a virus. You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy. It may be possible to skip this check using the /NCRC command line switch (not recommended).

Please somebody help me! I really need this problem fixed ASAP, because I need to download something that I need for my church lesson plans. I have tried to reinstall something that is called Windows Installer, but I still receive the same error box.

Hi, I just tried to install a program called FL Studios, and it gave me an NSIS error that looks like this, before the installer even starts:It's not the program. On another installer, Mojo Master Game, it didn't install either.I searched on Google, and I think its the C:/WINDOWS/temp folder being write-protected. I tried to change the permissions with the CMD command: CACLS, but I couldn't figure it out.I am running Windows XP. FL Studio is available from http://www.flstudio.com/English/frames.htmlThanks for any help in advance.

I keep getting a window message called NSIS Error. The message reads:

"The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete. This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus".

Could someone please explain to me what this means? I've never seen it before until a few days ago. I don't have a clue what it means.

Thanks,

I have read all the others on what to do when you have a NSIS Error - How can you find out what is corrupt? Everything I tried doesn't work. It started a few days ago, but now I want to download again and get the same message. Can I reload any disks to fix the problem? What am I looking for. I really do not have clue - all I know is I get The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete. This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus. You may want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy. It may be possible to skip this check using the ?NCRC command line switch (NOT RECOMMENDED)

Who is the author? What disk? PLEASE HELP

Hi,

I have this weird problem i suspect it might be a virus. First of all i got the autorun virus. But avira deleted it from drives(still i cant open drives without left clicking &explore). I searched about this in a techguy article there was a file about that and again when i tried to install it it gave an nsis error.

When i try to install windows installer etc. it gives extraction error("windows cant find path speficied")

Third and solved last problem was gpu related. When i installed nvidia drivers my gpu was stuck @ 4 bit & 640x480 i figured out it was ram related issuie and i removed one of my ram. And strangely computer got to its proper speed. i found out one of my ram was not working well(bios gives parity error if i put it back). I told those so you can analyze my problem easily.
shortly my question is
How can i fix nsis error and the virus? I reformatted my system 5 6times(one for gpu,one after ram(windows had missing dlls because of ram,nsis-> tried my luck, and one for virus)
but still i got this virus and cant do nothing. I use avira antivirus btw.

I hope i didn't write too long and unnecessary just triede to model the situation.

Best wishes and thanks for your help

Antivirus software rarely removes all of the problems caused by a virus. The best option is aways to reinstall the operating system.

I've tried downloading some programs from the net (bittorret, bitlord, even itunes) and I cant get the downloads to install.

The error msg is titled: 'NSIS ERROR'. Says that the install file is corrupt or incomplete. Goes on to say it could be the result of a damaged disk, failed download or a virus.

Like I said I cant seem to download anything successfully, although the error msg's were sometimes different.

Got Win XP SP2. Checked to see if my hard disks were not running properly, but Device Manager says they are running fine.

Do I have a damaged disk?

My specs are:

AMD Athlon64 3000+
2 Gb ram
80 Gb Western Dig SATA HD
200Gb Maxtor SATA HD
ATI Radeon X700A graph card

A:NSIS error? Do I have a hardware problem?

If i download installation files on this network, when i try to install software i get:

Installer integrity check has failed. Common causes include
incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the
installer's author to obtain a new copy.

More information at:
http://nsis.sf.net/NSIS_Error

I can download the files on my home network, and i am using the same machine.

Also alot of flash, windows updates and bbc iplayer doesnt work.

Could blocked faults be at fault? I have found the ports for bbc,

If so does anyone know the ports that NSIS uses?

A:NSIS Error. Blocked Ports

Found the Problem
SPI Firewall on Netgear Router. Disabled It. Everything seems to work now.
