Preferred Solution: Unable to start a DCom server error

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Unable to start a DCom server error

Does not appear to be serious. DCOM errors typically mean antivirus software, firewall software, or router settings are not configured/working properly. Are you experiencing any issues with the system?

Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
Expand Custom Views
Click Administrative Events
Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
When asked, save the display information in English.
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Create a new folder by right clicking in a blank area within the folder Errors.evtx is saved in. You could also click New Folder at the top of the directory under the directory path box.
Name the new folder Errors.
Place Errors.evtx and the LocaleMetaData folder into the new Errors folder.
Right click the Errors folder -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file here.

Unable to start a DCOM Server: {06622D85-6856-4460-8DE1-A81921B41C4B}. The error:"2"Happened while starting this command:C:\Windows\SysWOW64\DllHost.exe /Processid:{06622D85-6856-4460-8DE1-A81921B41C4B}
Been getting this error for years and can't access certain control panels directly (but can through full control panel) like desktop "personalization" (clicking any links under "See also" in this window does nothing). Control Panel refuses
to show its cascading menu in the Start Menu too.

06622D85-6856-4460-8DE1-A81921B41C4B is COpenControlPanel. I searched for these in the registry editor but couldn't find the command-line used in the error which, if I run in a command prompt,
gives this error:
This version of C:\Windows\SysWOW64\dllhost.exe is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need a x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.
If I run c:\windows\system32\dllhost.exe /processid:{06622D85-6856-4460-8DE1-A81921B41C4B} it works fine. How do I get DCOM to use the 32-bit dllhost.exe? I've tried the backup 64-bit dllhost.exe in C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-com-surrogate_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_43fa44d954d596e7
but get the same bit-depth conflict error above.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Every time I restart it is extremely slow and I believe caused by the following 2 errors that appear in the System Event Log as event ID 10000:

I believe they are Intel drivers but have failed to find a remedy to this problem.
Other than a real slow startup there appears to be no other problem.
Am I the only one with this problem and anybody know the cure?

A:Satellite P200HD-1DV: Event error on startup -Unable to start a DCOM Server

So, you figured out where the problem is but why didn?t you installed another intel graphics drivers? I mean, you know where the problem is and you can resolve it.

Otherwise, if a reinstall does not help it would be better to completely recover your system to eliminate the problem.

Last night, system running fine. Woke this morning to login screen, aka MS sent an update. Boot up but the start menu is stuck. This has happened before, a simple reboot usually fixes this and its good going forward. Not this time, restart it might work but will eventually stop again. Looking at task manager I have Service Host: DCOM Server Process Launcher (6) taking up 26-30% utilization. Boot into safe mode and everything is fine however.

I don't know what was in last nights update but it appears to have really screwed up my system. The only thing I added yesterday was CPUID CPU-Z, I really don't think that is the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

recently (about 2 weeks back) i have been receiving 1 of 2 error messages either dcom server process launcher terminated unexpectadly or plug and play terminated unexpectadly, when these messages occur (usually every2-2 1/2 hours) im given a 1 minute countdown at the end of this countdown my computer restarts. while this doesn't seem to be harming my computer it is amazingly annoying, also if i go on yahoo search and look for a item i click on a link and im redirected to an advertising site: this occurs every 3 out of 4 clicks of said link. i have tried every antivirus software i own norton antivirus, malicous removal tool, windows defender, and malwarebytes nothing has worked every scans shows no infection. im not the only one having this problem several sites and forums i have visited has people with the same or similar problem which has happened to them in roughly the same time frame. if anyone can help i would greatly appreciate it because so far my only option would be to reformat my computer and reinstall every thing and i would really like to avoid that. please help me bleeping computer your my only hope.

This past month upon starting Windows I've been getting this nagging error message that causes a countdown from 60 seconds then it restarts Windows:

"Windows must now restart because DCOM server process launcher service terminated."

I know how to intervene with the "shutdown -a" command, but I'd like to know what the cause of the problem is and how to get rid of it.

I have a HijackThis log that hopefully proves helpful to someone here. Thanks in advance!

I have read other threads on this site and followed some of the direction. I downloaded super anti-spyware and also disabled auto shutdown.
Also I used another anti-spyware program and got rid of over 1000 spyware and malware items.

I get an error message on my Windows XP Home edition laptop (HP Mini 1000) that says: "dcom server process launcher service terminated unexpectedly" and says the computer needs to restart in one minute and that it's authorized by (NT Authority? or something like that.) It then counts down from one minute and restarts...This happens quite frequently and it's frankly a pain in the ***...Can anyone help me? I am in the process of download Hijack This now, and can put up a log if necessary...

I have tried doing system roll backs but it still happens...I have had an array of anti-spyware programs downloaded recently including Avast (which I still have not been able to uninstall completely!!) and Scottie Winpatrol and Advanced System Care Free (which is still installed)...I have also been using Revo Uninstaller to uninstall programs and removing any leftover files or registry keys...I hope I have not accidentally removed something important from the registry...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm hoping I can get this input before my machine crashes again (XP). It crashes about every 10 minutes - 5 of which it takes to boot up.
I keep getting DCOM Server Process Launcher is unable to launch the service (I think that is what it says).
Then it gives me the location of a file in the owner/local settings/temp directory - which promptly gets deleted and my machine reboots.
I was able to run spybot, but the machine doesn't stay up long enough to run adaware. Here is the hijack log. Can you please help me?
Thank you. There are some additional problems, but I will post those after I get this one taken care of. Thank you.

Hi,

I am running Windows XP SP3. It's been approximately a week since I started receiving DCOM Sevice Process Launcher error. I changed the recovery options of the service to restart the service after 1 minute instead of restarting the computer. So now I only acknowledge the error message and continue working. This problem appears sporadically every few minutes. I looked at the application and system event logs and can't see any pattern that may suggest what triggers it. Below are the messages from the application and system event logs:

My problems are:

-Frequent DCOM process server error followed by 60 second system shutdown timer ( I do know how to stop the timer).

-all Google and Yahoo search results redirect me to random pages.

-when opening new internet explorer tabs or windows I'm getting additional popups or redirects very frequently, and the system is running really slow.

I have run fully updated versions of: AVG, Malwarebytes, Spybot:Search and Destroy, and Windows malicious software removal tool, none of them find any problems.

Ad-aware worked until a couple days ago, now it causes the DCOM process server error and the program crashes if i try to: run it, get auto updates, uninstall it, or attempt to install a fresh copy.

Please help. =(

Hi! A couple days ago I started to get the DCOM server process launch error, which seems to pop up randomly, never when I've just turned on the computer. Then yesterday, i started receiving a DCOM server process launcher error and I get a 60 second countdown and then the computer shuts down and restarts. I have windows XP home.
Below is my hijack file.
Please help... THank you!

Hey, need some help from the experts please!! My computer has been all kinds of crazy recently. I have been working on it for 6 hours scanning and re-scanning. My friend ran The Ultimate Windows Boot CD or something and found and cleaned a ton of viruses. Kept working on it at home, but still couldn't get rid of two major problems. The first is a DCOM Server Process Launcer Service Terminated error that comes up on boot with a countdown. Found out that I could use "shutdown -a" in the Run dialogue to at least give myself some functionality. Downloaded Ad-Aware and cleaned a bunch of stuff. It still keeps finding the Win32TrojanTDSS file though and can't get rid of it. Downloaded McAfee Security Center Endpoint Protection Home Use Option that the Army offers for free off of the Army Knowledge Online portal. It installed fine but when I go to start it it shows the loading screen, then it disappears and the program start screen does not come up. I also cannot initiate a scan by right-click, it does nothing. Tried to download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware but it does not start either. Now I have some weird thing going on that plays advertisements and music immediately after trying to start Malwarebytes.

I am running Windows XP. Can you please help me??? I am fairly computer literate and really need my computer back!!! Thanks in advance.

A:Help! All messed up with Win32TrojanTDSS and a DCOM Server Process Launcher Error

Hello tigerjai and to Bleepingcomputer.TDSS is the name of a rootkit, a stealth component many kinds of malware make use of. It hides other infections from being seen by Windows, and thus by any scanners we run. We need to hit that first, and Malwarebytes is the one of the best options available to us here in AII. After we get the rootkit, we'll need to run a couple other scans to make sure we catch all the baddies on your system.Let's try a little variation on running Malwarebytes and see if we can't fool the malware that's keeping it from running. Delete the copy you have already downloaded please. Also, please read all of the instructions below before doing anything.***************************************************Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.alternate download link 1alternate download link 2IMPORTANT!!! - when you save the file, rename it to something random, such as bubbles.exe. Hi there - this morning upon starting up my PC I got an error message informing me that DCOM Server Process Launcher had crashed and that my PC would shut down and gave a minute countdown and then restarted.

It hasn't happened again - yet, but having read previous threads where people have had similar problems I thought I would post to see if there were any things I could do to see what the potential problem could be.

I have done a scan with AdAware which shows no problems, also AVG has detected no problems.

Hi, this is my first time posting here, I came across this site while trying to Google fixes for my problem. I noticed that there are a lot of helpful members here, so I figured I might try my luck. So basically, I THINK I have the same problem as this fellow member who posted in this thread. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...pic=195142&Although our problems are similar, I'm not entirely certain they may be caused by the same thing so I just wanted a second opinion in case I mess up my computer by doing something incorrect.I've encountered a number of issues with viruses and malware over the past week, but I'm getting close to completely ridding my machine of all infections. I'm using a Sony Vaio FE-690P laptop and running a legal copy of Windows XP Professional. Before my problems started, I was using Ad-Aware and McAfee VirusScan periodically as my main defense against infections. When my computer started to act up, I performed scans through each program. Each scan turned up a number of items, some more dangerous than others, so I took note of them and deleted the items. Upon a system reboot, I performed the same scan again and found that some of the exact items I thought had just deleted reappeared. One of the four items that I was unable to get rid of was the Virtumonde virus. After doing some internet research, I downloaded Spyware Doctor, paid for a subscription, and performed a scan. Spyware Doctor found the same items as Ad-Aware, but wou... Read more

Hi All,

I have an HPE 520 NL, x64 desktop, windows 7 home premium SP1. I have had many intermittent startup problems, with some elements hanging at shut down. I'm not well enought versed in this to figure it all out myself -- too computer illterate. Everything from DCOM servor error 10010, to Easybits service failing to start, to the print spooler failing to share (error 2114), to Ralink UPnP Media Server timeout, etc. No system errors with sfc scannow, no hard disk errors with chkdsk.

I am attempting to upload the Event Viewer administrative logs as a zip file and hope that it works.

If anyone can advise, I would be very, very grateful!

Thanks so much,

Work through these Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 to gather clues to the problem, disinfect, try fixes like the System File Scanner (if necessary from boot), and help optimize Win7 so it performs best.

But if you're running the original HP factory install you should know that is the worst possible install one can have to begin with, with the worst load of bloatware that throttles WIn7 native performance. hello,

i hope i am doing this correctly per forum rules

so yesterday i decided i wanted the current avg free edition on my computer. i have malwarebytes anti malware already but wanted to switch. i didnt remove malwarebytes first.
in the final stages of the install i suddenly got a warning that my computer would shut down in 60 seconds by the nt authority system because of the dcom process launcher error.

it would then restart over and over. the few times it would actually make it all the way to my computer logging in to windows the same shut down in 60 seconds would come up again and i could never get to system restore in time or anything else.

now it just restarts and restarts and restarts over and over and never gets to logging into windows.
i dont know what to do.
im running windows xp i havent updated in some time because i cant verify it. the computer was a hand me down.
i did download the actual avg from download.com and scrolled past the google ad results and selected the actual download link.
i did get a warning from a red shield that looked like my windows security stating that my firewall was tunred off and i know that is b.s. cuz i fell for that once before. i looked at my actual firewall and saw that it is indeed turned on. i have a feeling that might have something to do with this problem.

ill be waiting to hear from ya
thanks

A:shut down Initiated by NT Authority System/DCOM Server Process Launcher error. began after i started installing avg

wow. well, you must have your hands full helping out with nasty trojans and other malware etc.

some friends of mine helped me out.

in case anyone has this problem after trying to install avg. this is what i did and it worked. i have windows xp. this may not work if you have other versions of windows so be careful and ask someone who is knowledgable. either here or a friend who is a sys admin or something.
go into safe mode. when you start your computer you press f8 a bunch of times before the windows banner comes up (when you see that it is too late and you need to try again). select safe mode.
when you are in safe mode go to add/remove programs and remove avg.
when you restart it should be ok. it was for me.

thanks anyway. feel free to close this topic moderators cuz i dont think i need assistance in this any more. so far its all good.

Hello,

1. Turn off UAC.
2. Check user permission on the server for Remote Launch etc.
3. Given explicit permissions to Windows\Registration folder and .clb file under it (as per one of the posts on DCOM issues)

Has anyone run into similar problem and got it resolved?

A:DCOM [10005] - DCOM got error "%1058"

Hi,Your system is severly infected. Problem with these infections nowadays is, it causes a lot of damage. Even if we clean the malware off your system, I can't guarantee that your system will be clean afterwards, because these infections/bundles leave a lot of leftovers behind that most scanners won't even recognise and logs won't show. Also, I can't promise you we can repair all the damage it caused... Even after cleaning the malware, you can still get errors afterwards because of the damage. Solving these is not always possible since it will be searching for a needle in a haystack to find the right cause and solution. So, we can try to clean this up and do what we can, but keep in mind that we can't solve ALL problems this malware already caused. In light of this it would be wise for you to back up any files and folders that you don't want to lose before we start. Reason I am telling this is because when a system is so terribly infected and we try to clean this up manually, the damage that is already present may interfere with our removal attempts. * Please visit this webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofixPost the log from ComboFix in your next reply.

Hi everyone,

I apologize beforehand if this seems like a stupid question. I dropped XP to go to Vista for various reasons (I really wished I hadn't). Anyways, for other reasons I have to go back to XP. One of the reasons I left XP is because my server is not listed in services in administrative tools. When I try to start the server from command prompt with "net share" or "net start server" i get a service name is invalid message (nethelp msg 2185). I have an xbox that I use to stream music, movies, etc. Since the server service is not working, I am unable to share and now my XBOX is pretty much a big paper weight. I have looked tirelessly for a solution with no success. I figured since I read these forums all the time I might as well ask for some help. Anyone know how I can reinstall server service to allow sharing? Again, the server is not listed as a service in services.msc. Sharing folders is also not possible as there is no "Share" tab in properties. I have reinstalled srvsvc.dll into system32 but no success. This sucks because I cannot share any files. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

im trying to share files over my network, but for some reason my computer keeps telling me that i am unable to because "The Server service was not started".

So i went into my services thing is administration tools, and low and behold it isnt running, so i click on start, but it doesn't start and it tells me that "Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified." the file i believe is svchost.exe, so i went to chk in the system32 folder, and it svchost.exe does indeed exist.

any ideas on how to get it working ?

Hello all, I'm not sure if this is an operating system question or more of a software development question.

Anyway, I have a legacy COM service, a COM server that runs as a windows service, that was written for Windows NT 4.0. I have managed to use the service on both Windows 2000 and Windows XP unchanged. However, I now wish to run the service on a Windows Server 2003 machine and I can't seem to get it to work.

This is what happens:-
1. Install the service and set it to log on using a domain account.
2. Start the service from the services.msc applet.
3. Start the client application and connect to the service.
4. At this stagte the client applicaiton freezes for approximately 60 seconds and then returns with the error message "Server execution failed".

I've also tried using the client whilst the service is stopped. In this case when I connect the service is started but I get the same error.

The development team also provided a standalone application that hosts the exact same COM objects, mainly for debugging purposes. If I use the standalone application everything works fine.

Its all very strange.

Does anyone have any idea what the cause might be? And preferably a solution.

Thanks,
Kep.

A:DCOM service on Windows Server 2003 - "Server execution failed" when connecting

I found the answer.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroup...-DC48AB0DA5C9&dglist=&ptlist=&exp=&sloc=en-us

The above discussion says that a service must enter a running state before a COM server calls CoRergisterClassObject. So I guess its a development problem.

Not sure why it only manifests on Windows Server 2003 though.

Everyting works great except homegroup. I can't leave it or see the password. Server in services is not started and when I try and start it, I get a dependancy error . Checking the logs the same 4 log entries keep repeating server SMB 1/2 srvnet failed.
So did a sfc scannow and that reports unfixable srvnet sys. errors.
From there I'm a little stuck. Can I replace the srvnet with another copy or is it machine specific?

Any help would be appricated

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me with an issue I'm having in Vista.

I was trying to navigate to a webpage in Chrome, and then webpages started to refuse to load past a certain point (e.g. the tab would show the page's title, but the tab itself would be entirely blank). When this happened my computer started to freeze for periods of time, after which it would do whatever I had told it to (e.g. I clicked the "x" to close Chrome, which it did after several minutes) for about a second then freeze again.

I decided to restart the PC by holding down the power button. When I turned the PC back on I got the screen saying that one or more of my disks needed to be checked for errors, but I told it to skip the disk check (bad idea, I know, but I was in a terrible mood at the time and wasn't thinking too straight). The computer then froze on that screen, so I restarted it again.

After restarting it the startup repair program ran, as Windows would not start, and took a while checking for errors before asking whether I want to run system restore, which I do. After running system restore it gives me an error message saying:

"The instruction at 0x737e989e referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read."

Major network problems

Been scouring the web for the NativeWifi Filter drivers for windows 7

Cannot start my WLAN Auto Config Service due to NativeWifi Filter not installed/unable to start

It keeps giving me an error saying that it doesn't exist so I restarted and now it's not even listed in the non plug-and-play section in device manager with hidden devices shown

had no problem starting up NDIS Usermode I/O Portal as per advice in other threads where it is stated to start BOTH NDIS Usermode etc. AND NativeWifi Filter

But mine has somehow disappeared from the list and would not start before that point

It was a code 24 IIRC "The device is not present, is nor not working properly or does not have all its drivers installed" - pulled that from another service that does not work

Qos Packet Scheduler is also not functioning (where I got the error from which is the same as I WAS getting with NativeWifi Filter)

If anyone has the drivers to either of these that would be greatly appreciated as I cannot use the net on my computer, so am using my brothers for anything internet related atm

Cheers =)

The update of MS Windows runs into a loop. I found the following message in the logg:
Servern {784E29F4-5EBE-4279-9948-1E8FE941646D} registrerades inte med DCOM inom erforderlig timeout.
in English: the server {784E29F4-5EBE-4279-9948-1E8FE941646D} was not registered in DCOM within the timeout.
What should I do to avoid the problem?

Thank you so much for any help!

What does DCOM Server Process Launcher Service do? Recently my computer started giving me the error message: DCOM Server Process Launcher Service terminated unexpectedly. Windows must shut down. Any unsaved data will be lost. Then a 1 minute time would appear and after the 1 minute timer expired, the system would reboot.
I did a search under "my computer" for DCOM and found a file for it. It had settings for what to do in case of termination. There were settings for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd error detected. They were all set to restart the computer. I changed them all to take no action. So far my computer is back to normal. I did download malwarebytes and ran a scan. It found and removed 6 problems, but they had no effect on the restarting. I'm just wondering if I'm going to have a major malfunction someday by switching to take no action. Maybe I don't need to worry? All I ever do is surf the net and store a few pics.

A:DCOM Server Process?

on behalf of TSG community i would like to welcome you to TSG forum. =)

back to your problem, surprising thing is that i recevied a private message from one of our senior member, elizbeth and she experience a simlar problem to what you had described.

I cleaned my machine with TDSSKILLER
Hi,

I wanted to make you aware that I had the DCOM error on my machine too. I could not boot to safe mode, update Windows, and machine rebooted every 20 mins.

I ran many things in an effort to correct the issue, but tdsskiller is what did the trick. Everything on the machine now works properly.

I am not qualified to post in threads, but I wanted to contact you, since there are many people with the issue and not a lot of help with it.

I am wondering if Windows auto update is triggering the restart. The reason I think this may be the trigger, is that I tried to manually update Windows and each time I did, the DCOM errror popped up. So maybe as a temp solution disabling auto updates may help until the machine can be cleaned.

You can read my posts from the past week for details on what was going on with my machine and a download link or do a search for tdsskiller.

I hope this helps,

elizbeth

Read up some of the threads by elizbeth and then you might want to try out TDSSKILLER, when i tried to run it, TDSSKILLER did not change/detected anything on system i was running it on.

Post back after you try TDSSKILLER if you still experience the same issues.

Windows XP Home, Must restart because DCOM server process launcher service terminated The system gets a 1 minute shut down timer after the windows desktop appears with the:Windows must now restart because DCOM server process launcher service terminated. I can stop the timer by running "shutdown -a". Also, if I disable the wireless connection to the Internet, I don't have a problem. Below is my HiJackThis log:

First of all.... Thank you to all of you and your hard work!! I just recently had some malware issues that I believe "wolf" helped me with. (could be wrong on that name) Anyways... The redirects are back and now I am having some other issues with DCOM shutting down the computer within 3-5 minitues of windows starting. I have done a little research, but also now how that goes! I have not done a recent Windows update and when I went to go do that I recieved another code that says "installer" was not operating or something of that nature. The code on that was 800706BF. Which again research showing that I have some major registry issues. Please help!! and again, thank you for all that you do.

Good Evening,

Im new to this so please excuse me if I make a few mistakes.
I have 2 problems that I really need assistance with.

Before I let you know what the problem is please see my PC specs below:
Intel Dual Core E5200 @ 2.5GHz
Windows XP Home Edition - Service Pack 3
3.25GB Ram (actually 4GB)
McAfee Total Protection
Internet connection via Vodacom Huawei 3G Modem
Internet Browser is Mozilla Firefox.

I have also attached a HJT Log as well as a screen dump of the 2nd problem.

Problem 1:
I started getting the System Shutdown Error on the weekend. Says that the DCOM Server Process Launcher Service Terminated Unexpectedly. The system then restarts in 60 seconds. I disabled the DCOM service by reading through some other threats but still get the error that happened just before the restart. I need to know how I would go about removingt his problem if it is a virus or maleware etc.

Problem 2:
When I connect to the internet I stay logged on for about 5 minutes and my 3G modem disconnect with no error message. I contacted Vodacom and the guy did some trouble shooting and asked me to do the following:
Click start run
Type cmd and hit enter
Then type Netstat and hit enter again
When I did this the report that followed looked like the screen dump I attached and the vodacom guy said I had a doom virus.
I have tried Kaspersky, McAfee, Spybot, Adaware, Paretologic, Spyware Doctor, Windows Malicous Software Removal Tool, SpySweeper, Registry Mechanic 8 and a few others.

A:DCOM server process launcer

Hello & Welcome to Tech Guy Forum.

Shutting down spontaneously?

Which version of Windows? Which Service Pack?
RIGHT click "my computer" or "computer" > properties

Would you describe yourself as a beginning, intermediate, advanced or other computer user?

When did the problem begin? What changed? Updates to Windows or your AntiVirus?
Visit to a questionable site; open a questionable email message?

What is the EXACT error message?
This?
Windows must now restart because the DCOM Server Process Launcher service terminated Click to expand...

If so, your computer might be infected.
