Q: T480 stuck after saving BIOS settings

HI,First of all, sorry for my english, becaouse it's not my native language... Recently i bought used lenovo T480 from ebay, and some upgrades. Its 20L5000YUS model, with i5 8250u CPU, 8GB RAM, and 256GB Toshiba nvme ssd Right after I bought it, i upgraded 8GB more ram (16GB in total), added 1TB BPX SSD NME, and another 128GB Toshiba nvme SSD (42mm) Thinkpad is running great, but one thing bother me After making change in BIOS and pressing F10 to save changes, Thinkapad just stuck. I waited 20+ minutes to reboot or something, but nothing. I alway have to turn off by foce (hold power 6 sec), and after that, system boots fine.Settings maded in BIOS are saved, but system just wont reboot... Here are video explaining what I'm sayin Things I already triedTried with power adapter attached and detached.Tried to disable one hard disk, then another, same thing. Tested hardare with Lenovo UEFI boot, all seems OK.I downgraded BIOS to 1.23 to check if there is a problem with BIOS version, but problem persist. (I returned later to latest BIOS 1.24)Tried to disable secure boot, trid to erase all keys within BIOS, but problem is still here I have two more thinkpads (older models) and I know that this is not normal behaviour. Anyone know what's may be the problem? P.S. Thinkpad is in waranty 650+ more days, but I'm not sure if I can claim warranty, becaouse i bought it used.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Warranty rules are different in different countries. In U.S. buying used is no problem, but I don't know about Serbia. You need to check with local support. Boot into the BIOS and load defaults (F9) and save. See if that helps. Pull out the hardware you added: memory, SSD, etc. See what happens with the original configuration. What is the boot order? Remove network boot.

is there any way i can save or print out my BIOS settings, without writting them all by hand, recently the printer port was turned off, had i known the original settings the remedy would have taken minutes instead of hours, thanking you all in anticipation. graham.

A:Saving copy of Bios settings

Hi Graham,
I'm not sure if this will remedy your problem but within the BIOS there is an option to load defaults/load optimised defaults. If you use this option it will take the settings back to the way they where when you bought the computer and you will not have to save the settings/write them down.

Or maybe a virus? Other thing? Is it hard to replace the CMOS battery there? Ty!

Hi everyoneMy laptop is a HP Pavilion 15-p077sa.When I start it up it starts black then after a while it will go into preparing automatic repair and will have a spinny circle. After a minute after that it goes back to the black screen. Before this all the laptop would come up with a CMOS reset 502 error.Ive bought a recovery disc to try and get me out of the issue but I can't start the bios.No matter what button I press, escape, f1, f2, f10 ,f8,f12, I can't get the boot menu to start up so I am stuck! My CMOS needs replacing as the date has been dodgy but it went back to normal but right before it broke it thought it was 4am when it was midday.I want to replace the CMOS myself as I've found out that it is just a normal battery however getting to the on this laptop is really difficult and I don't have non conductive tools or the expertise. Is it possible for me to use the windows recovery disc in this situation and for it to temporarily work in the mean time before I get the the battery replaced?I hope someone can help. I am this close to replacing the battery myself as I can't afford taking it in for repair

In order to follow a guideline provided on this forum, I went into BIOS and pressed Fn+F9 keys to set BIOS to default settings. After that used Fn+F10 to save and exit. The laptop was supposed to restart but it is not going farther than Lenovo logo, it is trying to boot windows and after a few seconds shuts down and automatically tries again but doesn't go farther than logo. It seems that a certain setting changed in BIOS that doesn't allow windows to start. See below the default settings of my BIOS now. Please help!

I'm having a major problem with XP Home Edition. When I start my computer, I get the Loading Settings screen, which automatically switches to the Saving Settings screen and then goes back to Loading Settings, Saving Settings, etc, etc, (the "Windows XP Startup" and "Windows XP Shutdown" sounds repeat themselves one right after the other). By the way, I have the XP tweak that skips the Welcome and log on screens at startup since I'm the only person that uses the computer. I've tried Debugging, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Restore To Last Working Settings and a few others, but nothing is working. I ran Spybot just before shutting down the computer the last time it worked and got the "Congratulations! Your system contains no spyware" message. When I restarted the computer, I started having this problem. I also have Norton Anti Virus 2004 and did a Live Update (manually) a few hours before this started happening. Anyway, I realize this is probably a virus, (even though I haven't downloaded anything other than virus definitions in the past few days) and I have no clue what to do now. The XP restore disks aren't doing any good because I can't get past the Loading Settings, Saving Settings screens. Any suggestions?

**When I do the Safe Mode with command prompt, I get the list of partitions or whatever, and then it stops at the bottom of the screen and does nothing. If I press a button on the keyboard, I go right back to... Read more

Even if I exit out from it, it comes back to this screen. The only workaround is to force a reboot. I'm recent with both lenovo and windows update and ran lenovo diagnostics but everything comes out ok. Reset the BIOS settings to default as well. But to no avail. Setting the boot priority to my SSD first does nothing as well.

So brand new T480, all drivers and BIOS up to date, but I can't enter BIOS unless I choose "restart" on Windows 10 (up to date)... if I use "Shut down" I don't get the "press enter to interrupt boot" option when I start the computer again. Gone through all possible BIOS settings, disabled "secure boot" and all that, enabled legacy ect.. all USB devices unpluged, still will not come up with the message "press enter to interrupt boot", tried F1 F12 also enabled diagnostic boot and it says press F1, but pressing F1 does not work... The only thing I can figure is happening here is that the keyboard is been loaded during startup too slow, and is off during the critical time... If you choose restart in windows then I think the keyboard does turn off? maybe? it works fine, you can get into BIOS... The thing is, if my computer ever bricks, I won't be able to boot it using a bootable USB recovery disk, and I'm coming off just that a bricked DELL

Going to keep this short.     I have a T480 8550U and a 8650U board, both exhibit the same issue. Machine is not equipped with Nvidia GPU.  The CPU on these machines are throttled down to 20-25w after prolonged stress test, severely limiting its performance and ability to sustain high CPU clocks.   The heatsinks have been swapped out for the higher performance 2-heatpipe model. And additional thermal solutions were placed to draw heat away from the Voltage Regulator Module banks.CPU temperature is well under 80c.   The same issue is not observed on the X1 Carbon 8550U (same generation), on this machine I could reliably sustain 55w prolonged power draw with enough airflow provided to the motherboard.        Summary: T480 boards are either intentionally limited or has a bug that severely limits sustained CPU performance. Can we expect a fix? Or will Lenovo ignore the problem?  Proposed solution: Provide T480 users some bios update that allows higher sustained power draw. Or an alternate "performance bios" for the T480 that allows higher sustained power draw.

My computer has been acting funny in that wireless connection service has to be manually started every time I restart. In addition my screensaver has to be reset to ten minutes from one minute.

I have Malwarebytes up to date so I don't think it's spyware. Norton 360 is up to date as well.
Network Magic doesn't seem to be causing any problems.

In a nutshell my service for wireless was hi jacked and is set to automatic, but it is not. Then my screen is dead locked on letting me watch something for a minute. I thought vlc would disable the screensaver, but no luck.

Something seems strange about my computer. Windows doesn't seem to be saving any of my settings. For example: when I type in a new web address for my homepage in IE, it only saves it for about two more opens of IE, then reverts back to what it was before. It will never stay the way I put it. Also, in Microsoft Outlook, when I type in my password and click "save my password", it only saves it until I open up Outlook again. So if I close outlook, the next time I open it I have to re-enter my password. It does this with many programs, what should I do?

I have had a similiar problem. When I rebooted, I got a windows message that said it had a problem with user's account and it would load a temporary profile. We had to restore the pc to get it to save the settings

Win XP SP2 - When one shuts down computer it
automatically saves settings. Is there anyway of saving settings while the computer is still on?

A:saving settings

mmmm, I think you would probably have to log off and then back on again -- but why is this a concern for you?

I got this pc a month ago, and it was good, no problems, then all of a sudden i went afk for awhile, and my screen was just black? I tried clicking everytbing and nothing worked, it wasn't in sleep/anything so i just restarted it manually by pushing the power button, when i i started it up again it got stuck on the galax loading screen, and then after awhile of it being stuck there, it goes to the BIOS but i can't click anything on the bios after awhile.

i have vista home basic with sp1. recently the windows update started hanging, and i finally used complete recovery, installed sp1 and ie8. then i also installed updated drivers from toshiba. but each time i boot up there is no sound ( i have to start the sound service), i get notice about security centre, not having antivirus, etc. wireless network takes a long time to set up. each time i start the services, but at the next boot, everything is still the same.

one of the problems was due to zonealarm firewall. after i did a full recovery and installed zonealarm, they started appearing. i uninstalled it, and now things are fine.

So I just got a new computer with all new hardware(including mouse/keyboard) and windows 7.

Every time I restart my computer my mouse starts on like the 3rd slowest setting for speed. Is there a way to make it so it saves the settings for mouse speed so I don't have to adjust it every time I log in? I am using the Razer Imperator.

A:Saving Mouse Settings

Did the mouse come with it's own software? Here is the mouse settings page in windows:

Start> Type mouse in search box> Click on mouse in search results above

PC = Windows 7 Pro 64-bit desktop.

For about the last 1-2 weeks, after I login, Mouse and Keyboard Centre spends about 5-10 seconds "downloading" then installing an updated, every login, then disappears from the screen.

At the same time, my network connection is "identifying". It does this every time I login now, even though it is the same network, and nothing has changed on the network.

It's like the PC has forgotten some of its settings, and needs to be auto-configured again each time.

In event viewer > system is:

Event 7006: The ScRegSetValueExW call failed for Start with the following error: Access is denied.

Is this a process that tries to write to the registry, and fails due to access problems?

If I expand the event in XML format, I see:

If I search the registry for "9C38ED61-D565-4728-AEEE-C80952F0ECDE", I see:
