I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: How to change harddrive into mac format in windows 7?

your question is not that clear. Normally if you want to format a drive, all you have to do is to go into win7 disk management, delete the partition, then format.

are you wanting to format the drive to use on windows or mac computer?

Hello kueldood.

Here's some interesting info you may find useful, and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

After you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media; if you can find an exact Windows version that the PC shipped with you can do a clean install using the activation key on the COA sticker attached to the PC though it may require a robo-call to MS to sort the OEM batch-key.

How to Activate Windows 7 by Phone
If you can't find an exact same version, you could use the info in this tutorial to create an "all versions" installer of any version Windows installer, to install using the same method I posted above.

Windows 7 Universal Installation Disc - Create
After you have made backups of everything you care to save, the best method is to do a complete wipe (secure erase) of the entire Hard Disk Drive first, it over-writes everything, all the old Windows code including all the old drivers/programs, giving you the best possible space to install Windows to.

Assuming there's nothing you want to keep on that partition, try using the Delete option to make the partition into unallocated space.

I was dual booting Windows 10 and Ubuntu. An automatic update wiped my boot and
Ubuntu drives and made my computer unusable; the only way to get past the grub rescue screen was to boot Ubuntu from a USD drive.

I made installation media with another USB drive. When I booted that up to install Windows 10 I got the following error:

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. ON EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks."

So I booted Ubuntu from USB, used Gparted to changed the disk to GPT and completely wiped my SSD. I went back to install Windows from the bootable USB and got the following error:

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style."

Hey folks,

I have a fairly old PC which I think is from the very early days of XP. I really wanted to format and reinstall Windows XP on it, in a bid to bring it back to basics.

However, when formatting and reinstalling the screens were only giving me the option of choosing from 1 hard drive to install Windows to. Now it turns out that I have installed windows onto a very small hard drive (6GB) and my main hard drive seems to have disapeared. Any ideas how I could get it back??

This is my first post, but I have a feeling that more will follow!

Thanks,

Ok well I formatted my previously fat16 4 gig drive to a quick format NTFS drive. Well already I'm noticing a lot of lag (moving a large file to the recycle ben took just about 45seconds, just moving not deleting). When I went to defrag the drive because I know defragging on a small drive does a lot more than on a large drive (say 200gigs or so).

Well, the drive contained a very large unmovable space, which I never used to see on it as far as I can remember. Does a quick format do such things like that? Would that be causing my slow performance? I was going to leave the computer on and let it defrag because it looked like it was going to take a long time (the drive was already heavily fragmented for some reason). Should I just do a normal NTFS format instead of the quick one?

Well pretty much my whole computer was on my 73gig drive, but I didnt' format it, I'm currently using my 4 gig as my main drive, because the 73 is unbootable. I'm fine with just installing things to my d drive but it has been affecting my gaming proformance and I can't think what is causing it unless it is the problem above. I don't see why games would run even slower than before on my 73 gig drive. I just keep coming back to the above problem for my solution.

Could it also be though something with the system trying to access my second harddrives registry because when I run games they arn't located in my current registry. Still couldn't figure out how a game ... Read more

A few years, I purchased a Windows 7 Starter netbook and now I'm enlightened with all the knowledge of customization and theme editing I can do with it. But something's been bugging me - how do I change the time format?

As you can see, changing the date format looks fine. The Time format hasn't changed.

My XP computer is getting really slow so I wanted to re-format my harddrive, which I have done before but it has been awhile. I have a Western Digital HD WD3200AAJB-56WGA0 which I purchased new in Sept. 2008
Today when I inserted my XP Home CD it went thru the initial set-up but then I got this error:

FILE\i386\l_intl.nls could not be loaded. The error code is 7 Setup cannot continue.

After getting that error twice I rebooted my computer which still works as before (slow but still works).

Can anyone tell me how to get past this error? I hope I have given you enough information.

EDIT: I did have i386\i_intl.nls - it should be as I have it now i386\l_intl.nls

Thank you

Need to rebuild my computer. Currently has Windows 2000, but my son was messing with it, and it keeps locking up. I do not need anything on (already backed up the few documents I need). I was told by a friend to reformat the harddrive and reload Window 2000. I am new to this. I went to RUN, typed in CMD and then typed format C: It tells me it can't format because it is in use (I assume because Windows is running).
So how do I reformat?

Go to the website of the manufacturer of the hard drive and download a bootable diagnostic utility from there (they're usually free). If it doesn't have one, post back with the make of your hard drive and we'll see what we can find.

Follow the directions on the website to make a bootable disk and boot your computer from the disk to run the test. It'll tell you if your hard drive is dead/dying.

OK hear is my story. I bought my laptop used from my brother and it worked fine (compaq Presario 2100). I bought a wireless card and in my excitement over wireless, I didn't notice norton was expired. So needless to say, I aquired spysheriff. It totally locked up the computer. I had my uncle play with it and he installed windows 2000. My brother-in-law then said he could get XP back on it so what he did was image my hard drive (40G) to another hard drive (20G) and then he installed/updated the 20G. and everything went fine. So he decided to image the 20G to my 40G hard drive and at about 25% an error occurred and would not image anymore. By the way, I only know how to run one drive at a time, so I have to pull the drive and switch them. Also the 20G works, but I would like my 40G. When I start the 40G, it wants to know if I want to run XP or windows like always, when I had 2000 it said 2000 instead of XP, If I choose XP it says that it is missing a file: system hal.dll, something like that. and then no matter which button i hit, it restarts and does it all over again. I have tried to boot from the CD but it does the same thing. It will not let it start in safe mode or anything like that. If I choose to start from windows instead of windows XP it goes to a blank screen with a flashing cursor and I have to turn it off with the power button. I do not have anything important on the 40G so I was wondering if I could somehow format it and then reload XP. If so how do I get it... Read more

Wow! Ok, so I guess that you want to format your 40 gB drive and install XP on it.

What happens when you boot from the CD's that came with the computer? They should offer you an opportunity to format and reinstall the operating system (this is also called a destructive restoration on some systems).

My system:

I got a good deal on a brand new Seagate 160gig harddrive ($25) and attached it to my computer as a USB mass storage device using a USB to ATA (PCI?) adapter which has its own power supply connection.

2 Questions:

(1) When I try to format the drive with the administrative tools it goes thru the whole format process and then at the end I get the message "Windows is unable to format" or something similar.

The drive shows up as healthy with a 149gig partition in admin tools, and when I click on the drive icon in "My computer" I get the message that the drive is unformatted and asks to format.

Seems this should work. Maybe missing some key update or software. I scoured the internet for solutions but have been unable to find any.

(2) Right now the drive is just sitting on my desk next to the monitor. Do I need any heat disipation or dust containment?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

Under normal circumstances formatting the boot drive should have nothing to do with being able to use the slave drive after the format is done...that is assuming nothing has changed from the way you had it before.

Hi, I 'm a new Win7 comer, I got 2 problems which I really can't solve....

First Problem :
I got a 3TB HD for my system. I cut my HD 300GB for OS, others for storage.
But somehow it seems I can only use up to 1.7TB

It seems like those 746.52GB are totally wasted (I can't even format to use them)
I tried to delete drive E, but those 2 volume won't merge...
Windows 7 can't support 3TB HD ???

Second Problem : Back then in WinXP I always changed the background to light grey
Pure white is hurting my eyes.

So once I finished install Wins7, I changed the background color as usual :

But this time I only changed that small window's color :

Be gentle with me, this is hard to type on phone's key pad. Haha.

Sorry if I'm in wrong section.

It has it's own power supply.

Communicates with laptop via USB port.

Capacity: 931 GB
File system: NTFS (Default)
Allocation unit size: 4096 bytes

Regular format? _Not_ "Quick Format". That' makes sense right?

I google and am now under the impression this a long project, though I'd still have done it anyways. In your experience, how long can this take?

A:[SOLVED] How long does it take to format a 931GB external harddrive?

A full format of a 1TB drive will take at least an hour or two. It's been a long time since I've done a full format but it's not a quick process.

Acronis true image can make a backup file in your external ..
then make your new HD from the backup file in your external.
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/
The trial DL is fully functional for 15 days.

Almost the same as cloning .. but uses a backup file in your external.
Provided you have the available space in your external.

My Dell Vostro 1400 Laptop recently quit working. Its only 4 months old.
I turned it on and it came to a screen saying,

"Windows dould not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
"\windows\system32\config\system"
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair"

I inserted the setup disc and booted from it, when I got the the Repair option it says,"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setup cannot continue."

So I took the computer down to the local computer store and they put in a new 130 GB harddrive, ran the setup disk again and it displayed the same missing HDD message.

Anyone have any Ideas of what could be wrong???
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

A:Windows Setup Disk cannot find Harddrive, even with a brand new harddrive installed.

Hi, and welcome to TSF. If it's still under warranty I would take it back to the suppliers.

Ok I kind of have a mess of a computer right now haha. I have 3 hard drives and they all have operating systems on them. The two smaller ones have Windows Vista and the biggest one has Windows 7. I am given the opportunity to choose which OS to boot during start up. I would like to make the the Windows 7 hard drive my default one to boot up. I read some other topics and made it 'active' in the 'Disk Management' and then switched the boot order in my bios but it says "BOOTMRG is missing" and tells me to restart.

I will attach a picture of my Disk Management.

Thanks guys!
