Re-installing sound driver no longer helping crackly sound

Q: Re-installing sound driver no longer helping crackly sound

Any other suggestions? I emailed gateway about the problem a couple of weeks ago and they sent a link to reinstall the driver and it worked for a few weeks. Then a couple days it started getting crackly again so I reinstalled the driver and it was fine...but now this past week it's been doing it like crazy and now it seems like it's not even taking to fixing it for more then like 10 minutes.

Is there anything else I can do before I have to send it into Gateway AGAIN!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Re-installing sound driver no longer helping crackly sound

You could always buy a sound card. I'm assuming you're using an onboard one right now, so if you buy a sound card you'll have better quality sound, if you buy a good one, and it could speed up your games a bit, if your CPU is the bottleneck, since the card does the soundwork instead of the CPU. But if you don't want to do that you could try reinstalling windows. If that doesn't work you'll probably have to send it back to gateway.

Hi, I have recently installed a new larger hard drive, some of the sounds are now crackly and skippy. I notice it with system sounds, such as the initial windows logon/logoff sounds etc but not when playing things through media player.

I have updated all my drivers (all the same versions as previous drive), and all the sound settings are the same as my last drives' (which still plays sound fine as it always did).

It's not so much of a problem with things like system sounds, but i can no longer use my music production software effectively. I use Cubase and can actually 'see' the skipping sound as represented by the scroll line as it scrolls through the music as it seems to stop then jump to catch up.

Please help as I have had no luck trawling the web for answers for over a month now!!!

I don't have all my specs as I'm a bit of a beginner, here are the ones i do know.

HP pavillion ze4200 notebook
2.2Ghz Celeron Processor
1Gb 333MHz Ram
160gb Western Digital HDD 2.5" IDE (upgraded from 40GB Hitachi HDD)

Here's a link from the Asus website with specifications on my model of laptop:
http://www.asus.com/au/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/K52JT/#specifications

About 3-4 days ago, my sound stopped working, but only for programs such as Spotify and Winamp (and the other music players). The bar stays stuck on '0:00' in any media player.

I figured it was the card driver, so updated/ uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers (ATI High Definition audio device, for which I used this site: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false ...which may be totally incorrect).
This didn't seem to help. And on top of it, the sound started crackling and staggering on all videos, now including online players such as youtube (and not the usual stuttering that happens from video buffering). This is temporarily fixed by plugging in headphones and then removing them, which is the oddest thing I've ever seen.

If anyone has the slightest idea as to what could be going on, I'd very, very much appreciate the help!
Thank you.

A:Solved: Sound going crazy. Driver updates not helping?!?

Drivers typically have no impact of a media player function.

Also, as you mention this is a laptop, only drivers from the laptop manufacturer are recommended. Go to the Asus website, search on your model information, and get the audio drivers directly from Asus.

Hey people! Hopefully someone can help me out.

So im using onboard audio on a default HP Pavilion a6245n Motherboard. Id get a sound card if this werent a single slot PCI, which the slot houses my Wireless adapter.

Anyways, so a couple days back some friends tried installing Age of Conan on my computer, which required some DX update or something. Let that go and i THINK its ever since THEN suddenly my audio is very crackly.

Some applications are worse than others which is weird. Listening to audio in Flash CS4? Forget about it. Listening to the same MP3 in Windows Media Player? Much more bareable, but still crackles out now and then.

So i figured id jsut reinstall Realtek HD, so i did, the problem persists.

Aint the speakers, got my headphones plugged in. Aint the headphones, had my speakers plugged in. Problem definitely doens't fix itself when running headphones through the speakers.

So i think the latest DX update screwed something up but how can i be sure?

EDIT: no i havent figured it out though i think im beginning to understand something. It appears that any sound with equal to or higher bit quality than 64 will begin to crackle out. Anything else while low in quality doesn't seem to have a problem...

also i figure posting my hardware specs may prove useful:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz

I had that problem with WinME and I found out that the codecs that it was automatically downloading was incompatible with ME. Also, make sure that your settings for "Driver Signing" is set for prompt, otherwise third party software will overwrite some windows files, which are not always compatible with your system. I hear that soundmax doesnt make generic drivers and that most cases are handled by the motherboard manufacturer or the computer manufacturer, where else can i find a driver for this sound device, and what do you guys speculate is the issue?

Um.. you downloaded the newest drivers for your sound card from the Internet right? Try typing in dxdiag in the command prompt and making sure that directx is detecting your sound card. Also while in dxdiag you may want to turn down the directx "hardware sound acceleration level" under the "sound" tab. Also check out ----www.lost.eu/42bbb----

Last night I did a fresh install of Windows Vista the sound has been working fine until the last few hours. When I watch a DVD after about 15 minutes the sound just dissapears. When I try to play a song in winamp or WMP it wont play.

I use an external 5.1 USB Sound Card which can be seen here (UB-003 5.1Ch USB Sound Adaptor).

Also another thing that hasn't been working correctly since my fresh install is that on the Volume Mixer there is no longer a line in option. This used to work fine before as I have my Xbox 360's audio plugged into the line in input.

Here's an image of the back of my USB Sound Adaptor. In the blue port I have my Xbox 360 audio plugged in. In the green port I have my PC speakers plugged in.

When I go onto the Control Panel > Sound and choose the Recording tab it always crashes and then I get a message saying 'USB Controller Bandwidth Exceeded'.

After this all happened I have now updated the drivers to the vista version and all seemed well after the restart...for about another 15 minutes when I noticed some small crackles. This went on for another 5 minutes or so before all of a sudden it just kind of popped and it was like listening to static. I've tried reinstalling the driver with no luck. It just goes completely crackley. Same with speakers and headphones.

All help would be greatly appreciated, Sean.

It only seems to be doing it to files that are in iTunes, and have no "artist" (its kept blank). If i change this, nothing happens still. It seems as though it is corrupted, but works outside iTunes. Eg VLC. Anyone else having the same problem?

Hello, This is driving me insane   When I open iTunes / Nextflix / YouTube and play something, the sound is fine. But when the next episode / track comes on, or if I then open another application and start playing something, the sound becomes crackly / tinny / distorted. As if the sound is too loud for the speakers - though it happens even when the volume is turned right down. I've found two things that temporarliy fix the problem. 1. If I refresh the webpage, or close the program and open it up again, the sound is fine again.2. If I go to Control Pannel > Sound > Speaker/HP > Advanced > and change the default format.  But after doing either of those things, as soon as the next video / track comes on, the problem happens again. Things I've tried...Disable exclusive mode under Advanced tab on "Speaker/HP"Updating drivers for speakers It may be a coincidence but around the same time my laptop stopped carrying audio to my TV via a HDMI cable. If I plug it into another TV: no problems, audio and video via the HDMI cable. But it doesn't like my Sony TV anymore.

This is for a mate of mine, so any ideas you have, I can get a reply quickly enough

The other evening I thought it would be a good idea to attatch my Guitar amplifier to the microphone socket of my PC, as I wanted to hear the effects on my guitar from the SOUNDMAN.exe utility, the Amplifier was on full volume and after half an hour I disconnected it from my PC. Since then I have fuzzy, distorted, crackly sound making music completely unlistenable. First off I checked my speakers on another appliance and they were fine. I uninstalled my sound drivers and reinstalled new ones, the problem didn't go away. The SOUNDMAN.exe utility is turned off, so it wern't any effects causing the problem, in my Hardware wizard my devices are all working ok and there are no conflicts, also all my drivers are up to date, so now I am stuck, please can somebody help? I don't fancy shelling out for a sound card if there is a way to fix this problem. Below are the hardware I am using.

A:Solved: Sound fuzzy, distorted and crackly

I'm no sound engineer, but....
I think you/he may have overloaded the circuitry. You/he should have connected to the Line In socket NOT the Microphone. The internal resistances and impedences are different. The Microphone socket is basically designed to get a very low signal from an unpowered source. The line in socket is designed for amplified/powered input.
Methinks you/he blew it. Sorry!! Time for a trip to a Computer Fair

Good evening,  Recently, my computer has been producing this sort of crackly electric sound from near the "9" key on the keyboard (sort of like an 80's movie electricity sound effect). I believe it's either the CPU or GPU (i7-6500u/940MX). I mainly use the computer for gaming (Fallout 4, Skyrim, AC), with the charger plugged in for (non-modified) higher voltage in order to boost performance, which is where I believe the issue came from. The sound only starts a few minutes into gaming, and has only started. Anyone have any idea what's going on and if I should be concerned about any possible damage? I appreciate your time in responding. D.

A:no sound driver after re-installing XP..

You need to locate the drivers for your on-board chipset.

They should have come with the PC, and may be labled motherboard drivers, or motherboard utilities or such.

They are only useful if they are designed for XP of course.

Failing that, identify the make and model of the notherboard and search for the makers website using Google.

They are usually available to download, in a suitable form for most operating system versions.

First I went online and found this and used it as guide to get all my other drivers installed:

Today I purchased a Toshiba Satellite Laptop (if any additional information is needed to solve this issue I will provide it, but I'm not sure what kind of information to specify otherwise - also, I'm completely new to Windows 8 and these forums and I apologize if this topic has already been posted - if it has, my hours of googling didn't find it.) There is an issue with my audio - everything sounds like it spikes around 1.5khz, the high end (6khz+) is very unclear and there's basically nothing in the low/bass end at all. (Basically it sounds completely terrible.)

I have determined that this issue is related to my sound driver (Conexant SmartAudio HD) and that this driver is up to date. I know that this is the source of the problem as my ASIO driver works perfectly and sounds normal on the same system. I am unfortunately unable to use this driver outside of specific software, though, hence my problem.

I am, however, having trouble locating and installing a different driver to remedy this issue (as said, the current one is up to date.) Nothing seems to be compatible, allegedly. I'm in need of general advice as I'm not sure how to fix this after trying for a good 7 hours.

A:Trouble installing sound driver on new Laptop

You should be able to use both, or at least have both connected. I have a recording studio and at times I have both my Roland Octa-Capture connected to Sonar X3 and my PC sound (RealTek in my case) on for my audio editor program.

Have you tried a headset, to isolate it to the sound module, or the laptop speakers?

As this is a new PC, I would either take it back and exchange it for another (if that is an option), otherwise call Toshiba for warranty service.

Hi, I'm at my wits end here. Re-installed Win 7 X64 about 20 times now! I'm getting various BSOD's after installing a fresh Win 7 X64 after trying to install sound drivers (and SATA drivers - see below) on a P5Q motherboard.

I've tried different versions of the drivers (Realtek HD Audio) from R271-R285 with no difference at all. Also tried the default Asus ALC drivers.

If I install an Nvidia graphics card driver (with HD Audio driver) same thing too, If I disable the onboard HD Audio and re-boot, I still get the crash!

The weird thing is, that I have been happily using Win 7 X64 for about 2 years prior to this with no problems at all! I just wanted to have a nice clean fresh OS.

The only thing I can think of that could be the cause, is possiby the motherboard is faulty, as at one time the onboard NIC packed up, and disabling it / re-enabling it in the BIOS made no difference. Then suddenly it started working again.

I was also triple booting XP Pro / Win 7 X64 / Win 8.1 X64. The sound drivers on the other 2 OS's work fine, no crashes or anything! I hear no sound problems or any other anomalies when using Win 8.1.

I've subsequently got rid of XP and now just dual boot Win 7 / Win 8.1.

The drive I'm installing Windows 7 X64 on is a Kingston V+220 (SVP200S). It is completely clean, formatted, zeroed, aligned and checked with AS-SSD, which reports its health at 99% and 8 years life left.

I also tried integrating all Windows 7 updates (all 180 of them to Jan 20th 2015)... Read more

I am not having much luck trying to restore a Dell Vostro 420 desktop to factory fresh conditions for somebody at work. It` may have picked up a virus or two and they did not care about saving any of the old my documents files.

I used DBAN to zero out the whole drive and then used the factory supplied Windows XP Home re-installation CD. The disc was labeled as not including any drivers or apps. I used another computer to visit the Dell support web site, entered the service tag, and downloaded the Intel Chipset Driver (9.00.1011, A00) and Realtek RTL81XX PCI-E Network Connection software (5.764, A01) to a USB thumb drive.

I installed the chipset driver and then the network hardware drivers from the USB drive. I was then able to spend several hours while Windows downloaded and installed dozens of updates.

I then used the Dell computer to visit the Dell support site and downloaded the other needed drivers. Two different Audio drivers were listed, Creative Labs X-Fi Extreme Audio (RC2.1, A01-00), and Realtek High Definition Audio (6.0.1.5678/5...). The Windows hardware device manager was reporting a missing driver for a "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus". I decided to download the Realtek driver.

I ran the Realtek Audio installer and did not have any problems up until the very end. Just before the set-up screen changed to show the installation was complete, I got a pop-up warning that a network cable was disconnected. I double checked the physical connectio... Read more

Buy a new NIC card? It might be a fault in NIC unrelated to drivers.

I have a HT Omega Claro sound card that I've been having problems with. One issue that I have is after I uninstall the driver and try to reinstall it. It takes several attempts to install successfully.

Does this mean that the sound card is fualty? I'm not sure exactly how a driver works but i'm thinking it would try to comunicate with the hardware it's intended for and if there is a problem with the hardware that might cause the driver to have a dificult time installing.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

A:Sound Card Driver Has a Dificult Time Installing

I have an HT Omega Striker 7.1 sound card.

But regardless of the brand of sound card, if you uninstall a driver (actually a driver or program for anything) you need to restart the PC before reinstalling. If you don't restart before reinstalling, results can be iffy (and if there was a problem, the problem may still be there).

If you are having problems with the HT sound card, contact their support. I've had good response from them.

Hi, I am currently having a problem installing my audio driver.
I recently reformatted my computer, before it had sound, after, it doesn't.

My specs are:
Windows XP Professional (build 2600)

2.67 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4
8 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache

SiS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter

Board: ASUSTeK Computer INC. P4S8X-X REV 1.xx
Bus Clock: 133 megahertz
BIOS: Award Software, Inc. ASUS P4S8X-X ACPI BIOS Revision 1005 Beta 001 10/31/2003

NVIDIA GeForce3 [Display adapter]
Default Monitor

Multimedia Audio Controller (Problem)
Standard Game Port

First of all, whenever I load Windows, an icon on the bottom right hand corner pops up with "Add Hardware - Multimedia Audio Controller". After that fades out, "Realtek AC97 Audio" pops up.

Here are the things I've done:
1. Downloaded AC97 driver from Realtek. I've attempted to install, but on "alcchkid.exe", my system crashes and reboots itself.
2. I tried manually installing the driver from Add hardware. Same thing has happened. On "alcchkid.exe", the system crashes and reboots itself.
3. In my BIOS, my onboard sound has only 1 option.
Onboard AC97 Audio Controller and it gives me the options "Disable" and "Auto". There is no enable so it doesn't work.
4. I also tried Safe Mode to install the AC97 driver. This time, on "alcchkid.exe", it takes a couple of minutes to install, lagging up the system.... Read more

I installed a Sound Blaster Audigy Fx to run digital communication with my ham radio gear. After installing the SB the original IDT ports don't work. The IDT does not show in the Deives Manager. I tried down loading the IDT drivers but got a message not compatable and download failed.  I have done this on other HP computers I have owned with no problem.Thank you any help you can give me. LarryC4

A:On board sound gone after installing Sound Blaster Audigy Fx...

Hi: See if your BIOS has an onboard audio setting. If it does, it may have automatically gone to disabled when you installed the add on video card. Check the options you have for the onboard audio setting. If it is on Auto or Disabled, change it to Enabled, save the setting where you made the change, and again when you exit. The sound should work on both devices then. And if the audio card doesn't work with the onboard audio setting on enabled, then change it to Auto if the onboard setting had been on disabled.

Hi guys, Im getting quite frustrated here.

Im getting the well known "No speakers or headphoens are plugged in" error. In system properties it simply shows that completely no audio devices are plugged in. DXDiag did not see any soundcard or drivers either. Windows can not find any drivers by itself because it says that they are up to date, troubleshooter cannot identify the problem. This should be easily solved by manual reinstallation of drivers.

Reinstallation does help, but only temporarily, usually after restarting the computer or just waking it up from the sleep mode, i get this error again, sometimes even while working on the laptop, so I ended up reinstalling drivers and restarting the laptop 6times a day. Everytime there is a new version of Realtek drivers, the reinstallation of the old ones tends to stop working.

The worst thing is though, that its random, sometimes i go maybe few days without this error, sometimes it bothers me all the time.

Thank you in advance, for any help.

Hello and welcome JM I cannot find the drivers on the Asus siteas such - the Windows feature is not something I use a lot as is flimsy for want of a better term.

See this

Using HW Info general components

DownloadHW Info and pick the right bit version - HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download - (copy andpaste this site into the search bar) If you do not need the running informationin the smaller right hand panel close it. In the left hand window click on the+ for the individual device groupings and they will open out to the variouscomponents.

Goon opening out further until you get to the device itself. click on it and itwill highlight. In the right hand window there will be a very detaileddescription of that device as in brand, speeds model number etc etc These arevery detailed and are just what is needed for searching for drivers etc.

Seemy pic for an example - in this I have opened out one my components (audio) and then highlighted one of the one you need andyou can see the detail.

but first run these

Can anyone tell me how I would do this? I've tried for days to locate my driver with no success.

Thanks

A:Reinstalling a sound driver for onboard sound from a pre-packaged Windows XP

normally you can go to the manufacturer's website and download the orignal OEM drivers for your computers model and series.
usually under Customer service and support or downloads on the companies' website.

If not an OEM install from a major manufacturer such as Dell or Compaq etc, then you should still be able to find out the manufacturer of the motherboard itself and go to their website and do the same
