Solved: Firefox any version - No option an option to pin shortcut to Taskbar or Start

Q: Solved: Firefox any version - No option an option to pin shortcut to Taskbar or Start

Hopefully there's an answer out there. I'm a long time Firefox user currently using Version 14.0.1 on a PC with W7 64bit.
Since taking the upgrade to version 14, I no longer have the option to pin the shortcut to the task bar of start menu but have to be content with the shortcut on the desktop. When right clicking on the shortcut, I no longer see the traditional option of where to pin the shortcut. I've gone back as far as Version 10.0 but the option is no longer there either.

Any ideas on what's happened or how to solve this mystery?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have been successfully pinning folder shortcuts on the desktop (and changing their icons) to the taskbar with no problems. But suddenly one shortcut (to my Videos folder) does not have that option when right-clicking on it (as others, before it, have done).

When I try to drag it to the taskbar (as an alternative method) and hover over it, I only receive the option to "Pin to File Explorer" suggesting that it is already pinned (but if it is I can't find it!) - see image attached.

If I take that option and release my mouse and select Unpin from the Taskbar I am no further forward. It does mean that I can now drag the folder shortcut icon to the taskbar but nothing appears on it when I release my mouse button.

I have just tried to do this for another folder (my Documents folder) and have the same problem now. This suggests that I have cocked up some registry setting or something (but I have not gone into regedit).

Can anyone provide a solution?

Much appreciated.

There is a registry hack available to stop you having to use the shift key when using the right click menu to run as a different user - see
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/155532-run-different-user-without-shift-right-click-context-menu.html This works fine if you are in Windows explorer but if you have pinned the program to the task bar, it doesn't work adn you still have to hold the shift key down and right click to get the 'run as different user' option on the menu. Does anyone know of a way to permanently set a shortcut on the taskbar to be run as a different user to the one you are logged in as ?

Hello all:
I'm needing to create a shortcut, but the context menu that normally lists 'new shortcut' is missing. If it were just a shorcut to an exe or something I would just copy and past link, but I'm needing to create a shortcut for 'RunDll32 DwmApi #105'. But I can't seem to do that. I haven't made any changes to my system, so there should be no problems.

Hi Guys, Okay a little info on my system here for you first. Windows 7, SP1. 64bit operating system. I recently let windows update and install internet explorer 11 in an update. Everything is working fine but I have read recently that on 64 bit operating systems you have the option in the start menu to use either internet explorer 32bit or below that internet explorer 64bit. When i look in the start menu i have only one option, (internet explorer) and it has neither 32bit or 64bit beside it. In fact I cant find anything about a 64bit browser in my system at all. Its genuine Windows 7 I have that came with my dell xps 8100. I have searched online for information about this. The only thing I found out is that with internet explorer (10) it was designed as a hybrid and it used both 32bit and 64bit together. So it disabled the choice in the start menu. Can anyone tell me if my research is right and if so. Is this also the case with internet explorer 11 too. Thanks guys..

When I right-click on a folder or file it doesn't give me the option to Pin to task bar or pin to start menu. It works on my friends PC. What is the problem?

A:Missing pin to taskbar option

Hello Core7,

By default, only programs and program shortcuts can be pinned to the Start menu or Taskbar.

This will show you how to enable the pin a folder or file to the Start Menu option though.

This will show you a workaround for pinning folders to the taskbar.
Taskbar - Pin or Unpin a Folder

A file can only be pinned to the taskbar by having it pinned through the jump list for the program that opens the file with by default. (ex: NotePad for a .txt file) See step 5 in OPTION ONE in the tutorial below for an example of this.

Hello all

Forgive me if this is a well known thing, or is not in the right section (please feel free to move).

But I was wondering...is there anyway to remove the option completely to pin anything from the buttons in the bottom task bar right click context menu?

For me I have no use for this and very often go along an use right clicking of opened programs buttons often to close a lot of windows I have open when using my browser as well as other programs, and since its right above the close option, I am often clicking that pin one by mistake, and then have to go an un-pin it.

Guess its not that much of a big deal, but again as I don't ever want to use this, would be nice to get it out of the way.

Thanks for any help.

Until very recently any shortcut to a website that I create on my desktop automatically takes on my default browser's icon. (Currently Firefox.) But all of a sudden the icons for websites that have an RSS option in them have reverted to some standard boring icon that has nothing to do with the browser nor with rss feeds. (It's definitely not the orange rss icon; it's just some standard boring default icon, like a document page with a folded corner with a square and some colored dots in it.)

So, out of all the links to websites that sit on my desktop, just the ones that point to websites with an option to subscribe to an rss feed have reverted to a common icon picture. Everything other link still has the Firefox symbol. And any new shortcut I create has the same pattern; if there's no rss feed option in that website, the shortcut icon will match the browser's icon. But if there's an rss option the icon will be a plain looking standard icon.

My OS is Vista Ultimate. Any ideas? I can't seem to find this issue anywhere in the forums I've visited. (Or else I just don't know how to phrase it correctly.)

A:Default browser icon lost in desktop shortcut to websites when rss option present

Okay, now I'm not so sure it's strictly related to sites that offer RSS. I played with it some more and some new shortcuts I create (to some of the same sites) take on the browser icon, while others keep defaulting to that boring white icon. I can't determine a consistent pattern. I just know it wasn't happening before!
If anyone has any ideas, thanks in advance!

Hello ragavendrang.

I would suggest that after you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media you use Step One of this tutorial at the link below to do a wipe (secure erase) to the entire Hard Disk Drive, running this then using the outline in Step Two #2 to create and format a single 100GB partition using diskpart will get you a clean all and a chkdsk /r for the best possible space to install Windows to.

After you have made backups of everything you care to save and you want to do a real wipe "clean all" to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) have a look at this tutorial at the link below, it over-writes everything, all the old Windows code including all the old Windows drivers, giving you the best possible space to install Windows 7 to; it goes hand-in-hand with a clean install.

Hello everyone. I have been having an ongoing problem with my computer and I have asked for advice many times, and haven't really gotten any answers. Basically the problem is simple. When I click on a link in firefox, firefox opens it in a new window. This isn't right, it should open in the same tab. This also happens just by pressing the back button. This problem also effects the desktop. When I will select a single program, a cluster of programs around it get selected as well. Today this problem happened again, but I noticed something different about it. When I went to restart my computer (it generally works normally after that) I saw that my usual options of "Standby" "Turn Off" and "Restart" were replaced with "Hibernate" "Turn Off" and "Restart." I'm not sure what it means or if the problem is serious, but it is quite frustrating so if anyone can help shed some light on the issue, please do!

Oh and I was told before that my problem could be that my control key is stuck, but I have cleaned the key and it has been unstuck.

Besides the fact it's gotten very bloated over the years, one of the main reasons why I discourage people from using AVG is because of its built-in registry/file "cleaner" and its sales pitch to buy its optimizer/tuneup program.

You're lucky you only have that minor issue and haven't trashed the Windows operating system.

Yesterday I began the processing of migrating my C: drive contents to a newer larger SSD. i used Clonezilla to copy to the new hard drive. I thought everything had gone OK but it didn't (of course) . The new hard drive was recognized as the C: drive; the old hard drive was recognized, but only in Disc Manager and Windows would not boot unless i booted from the old SSD. Through a process of pretty much trial and error, I am now at the point where both drives are recognized. The new drive is C: and the old drive is now visible in Explorer as drive I. The old drive still has all it's original contents including Windows and needs to be reformatted (it's more than 90% full). The computer is booting from the C: drive as it should.

The only quirky thing which is happening now is that when I boot the computer, I'm given a choice of loading Windows Home Premium or Windows Home Premium (Recovered). If I do nothing the computer loads the former after 30 seconds...all is well.

Any idea why the "recovered" option is there, and how do i get rid of it?

A:given option of booting to Windows Home Premium OR Recovered version

Well its there bcause windows automatically repaired ur computer.. try which entry is working n remove the other one using easybcd software.. but make sure the menu entry ur choosing at boot is working fine

ok a simple issue I hope
In my taskbar sytem tray icons will be enclosed in this bubble thing with the arrow on it it collects icons to save space. (sorry no idea what its called)
options in notification area are set to show all icons, but it persists to put icons in that bubble..it is not the balloon notification I'm talking about.
I would like simply that it does not hide icons in this bubble.
thanks in advance Vagablonde

A:Taskbar system tray hides icons even option is unchecked

Well that`s what ticking the box is supposed to do.

You`ve done that and yet all your icons still do not appear ?

Another way would be to check to show each and every icon and notification.

I wanted to brag about how much I know about computers since i've built numerous ones and repaired everything I messed up.  But, now having a big senior moment and cannot for the life of me know what to select when rebooting acer aspire az3101.  The monitor wouldn't light, so I took the computer apart, made sure no dust was in the way, the fans work..and everything was in it's place.  So, plugged it in and got it to start but only get as far as select proper boot device and press key.  Yeah, I know  I know..I didn't make a boot disk.  Been beating myself up with wet noodle so now what's next?  Feathers

A:only option on F12 is to select boot option or use...

HDD is connected?if so, at F12 can you choose it as boot device?was the PC booting from that HDD?

On December 13, 2009 a user reported an issue where Robocopy when using /MT, disabled the /NP option.

The original question:

On December 21, 2009 this was confirmed to be a bug and it was added to the "bug database", and a promise was made to fix this soon.

Today, 2646 days later, I can still reproduce this issue.
When you require me to pay licenses for for your products, would it be okay i do this soon?

When could we expect this issue to be solved?
