I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi guys, I have got a system board damage, so I need to exchange it. I have never done it before, so I'm struggling with findings of correct part for exchanging to. As far as I understood FRU number of the system board is what I need. I have found one which says 04x5166 right next to the RAM slot. Is it the only reference I need to use to find a right part? I have found a part on eBay, where in description it is written 04x5166 and three different numbers. You think this one should fit? https://m.ebay.com/itm/QTY-1x-Lenovo-Thinkpad-X240-laptop-motherboard-intel-i7-4600U-VIUX1-NM-A091-/... I would really like to try to repair my old friend first before going for an expensive new machine  lookign forward to hear from you! Anton

I replaced the system board on my IBM thinkpad 600E because the original problem was that everytime the system booted up it would keep going to the time (time would not stay). I know that there is a battery on the system board but I figured it would be less of a hassle if I just replace the system board. I did that and now the system will not boot up. The LED's come on and I hear the fan run but nothing will show up on the screen. What should I do?

A:IBM Thinkpad 660E will not boot after System Board Replacement

Are you sure the replacement board was not broken? Maybe you did something wrong when putting the thing back together again?

Just take the thing apart again and try your previous mobo. If that works, try with the new one again.

I recently purchased a used ThinkPad X240 and the original owner removed the HDD. I didn't believe it would be a problem since I have a 500GB SDD. He instructed me that he had installed 8GB of ram and had removed the original 4GB, again... didn't believe it would be a problem. Turned the system on with a Live USB of Linux and was not pleased to hear three beeps twice, followed by a single beep. I opened the unit and removed the 8GB stick. Received the same sounds... memory issue. I read the memory and it was 8GB DDR3 1600MHz 1.5V. I called the seller and said this is the wrong memory. These units require DDR3L (Low Voltage) 1.35V memory. He said he was unaware and it's all he has. I went and purchased Micron 8GB DDR3L 1.35V. Installed it and no more beeps. Great! Problem... no video either. Pressing power the keyboard lights up, fan spins and power button plus I on ThinkPad lights up... then keyboard lights go out, fan stops and that's all she wrote. About 1 minute and the green light on power and red light on I goes out. I tried completely discharing the unit, removed CMOS, Internal and External batteries and then held down power button for a minute or two. Same results. Tried an external Lenovo IPS monitor, and nothing... just black screen. Tried F1 repeatedly and nothing also... just black screen. Any ideas would be appreciated, thank you.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X240 that suddenly turned off whilst I was using it. It was charging at the time, and I'm fairly certain that the laptop itself didn't overheat. I've tried disconnecting the battery and ac adapter, holding the power button, connecting them back on and pressing the power button but nothing. It would be great if someone could give me some help, thanks.

I have an old Gateway P5-133 computer with an Evergreen MX-Pro 200 cpu upgrade on an American Megatrends system board.
I was in the process of upgrading it with a larger hard drive, WinME, a couple of USB ports, potentially more RAM etc. and was experiencing intermittent episodes of it not booting up. My new machine's monitor, which I used while working on this old POS, was saying there is no video signal coming from the old computer. A new video adapter produced the same message, so I am assuming the system board croaked. It did boot fine following the installation of the new HD and ME.
What would be a suitable replacement if you would be so kind as to enlighten me? I can return the PCI Video and USB adapters but not the Maxtor 80GB Ultra ATA/133 drive and ME.
Regards,
Doug

GoofyGimp

Welcome to TSG! As far as a replacement board, you are probably wasting your time. My suggestion would be to keep the video you bought, the hard drive and the floppy. The rest is very outdated. Your board is a socket 5 board with no real replacement out there. The case and power supply will be of no use on a newer board (probably an AT form factor). The evergreen chip will only fit a socket 5 board and you can go much much faster with a low end $30 duron processor. The memory is probably 70ns dram and will not be able to be used in a newer board. Not really much you can save. Your choices are to look at used computer shops for an old socket 5 board or to shell out a couple of bucks for a bare bones system.

Hello, i have some issues with the display of my Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 260. It shows some yellow spots on the display, especially in the lower corners. I have already contacted the Lenovo Support Team concerning warranty. But Lenovo claims, that my Laptop is no longer covered by the warranty, because i have removed the lamination sheet of the display and replaced it by another one. So now i want to exchange the display on my own. Is it possible to order a display without any further services, so that i can do the exchange of my display by my self? I haven´t found any website (including Lenovo) that offers the display seperately without any installation service. So i just want to have the spare part. I got the following Model:Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 260 with a Full HD DisplayType: 20FES00000 I would be grateful for any help.

I have an e7450 that has had what I believe to be a system board failure. It is out of warranty so I am looking at replacing the system board myself. The part number is CN-0Y15C1-12963-54I-  A0EF  REV A00.
I believe the original unit has an i5-5300U. Most of the replacement boards I'm finding online have an i7-5600U.
Will there be an issue using the different processor if the board is still the same?

My motherboard died on my X1 Carbon Gen 1.  I sent it to lenovo and the repair estimate was ~$750.  I decided to replace it myself but the part for my system FRU 04X0495 (W8P,i7-3667U,8G,F,AMT,TPM,MT) new are quite expensive.  I found a new systemboard FRU 04Y1988 (W8P,i7-3667U,8G,F,AMT,TPM) at a much more reasonable price and installed that.  I now have a working machine (new machine type 3448-3Y2) but no touchscreen (I assume the MT stands for touch monitor or something).Question, and I think I know the answer, Is there any way to convert or add to my new systemboard the touch screen capability?  I assume it is not just the driver?thanks,

I have a yoga 260 that would not charge the battery when plugged in. I tried a different charger which didn't work and then replaced the battery but also no luck. I sent it to Lenovo and was told I need a new system board which was going to cost around that of a newer laptop. I decided to replace it myself with a refurbished board as I've done this on an old computer in the past. With the install complete it can get some charge to the board because it tries to start up but I am getting 2 short beeps with nothing on the screen. I realize this usually means there is a system board issue. I've rechecked all the connections and everything 4x so I don't think it was an install problem. Is there something else I need to do or did I just buy a bad refurbished board?

My Yoga S1 has contradictory, intermittent power issues that I'm trying to chase down. Culprits are bad power bric/cord/plug or power socket on mother board or power board that feeds into power button/led on. One day it blacked out and wouldn't restart to hard drive or windows stage. I did get an error code which I can't remember 5100 or 5500 poss?, that seemed to indicate the power board or ribbons to that needed replacement or re-attachment. So fiddled with it and it did fire up in windows all ok. Then ran out of power and died again. power button wouldn't light up. plugging in power unit did light up led as getting charge. Left it overnight and then it miraculously charged up. pushed power button light up twice then nothing. took out power board/detached ribbon, then it fired up to windows, fixed some hd errors and has been restarting without problems. Except now there is no plug showing on battery icon when plugged in. So not recharging but I'm sure the battery is good. And logically, the power brick and plug must be feeding electricity into laptop to get it to recharge enough to start up. So power socket and plug may be suspect with intermittent contact problems. Or the power board somehow is involved in this? I've ordered a new powerboard as easy screw in and cheap. My question about powerboard is does this control ability of plug to charge battery? power brick with new plug is next order from ebay. but the power socket, which see...  Like others here, I've was disappointed by my x240 TN display. So I found an 1080p IPS display on ebay with what I think is the correct FRU: 04X3922. It fits fine but is completely blank on bootup. I go back to the TN display, and it has no backlight! No way to increase it's brightness. A tech replaces the original TN display with another TN display (and the motherboard for some reason); no difference. It goes to the service depot and comes back fixed. What the depot did I don't know, but I end up with the i7 instead of the i5 so that's cool. Like an idiot, I try this again... exactly the same things happen. Somehow I have a 1080p display that disables the video-out's backlight? Is that even possible?  I should say at one point in the first attempt, I switched screens while the computer was hibernating, and the 1080p display did come up with a tiled display at the wrong resolution, but the computer could not readjust resolution or detect it on bootup. So two questions: a) Is there a way to force max brightness on bootup? b) What happens if I send the laptop in for repair with the IPS display? Will they repair it based on what's in it now (IPS), or what it was originally (TN)? Picture of suspect display attached.

A:x240 display replacement woes

To follow up, I got it fixed under a warranty repair, then tried another IPS screen of the same type (FRU 04X3922, LP125WF2(SP)(B1). This time it worked great. My guess is that the LCD cable was damaged, either the wire or the connecter. In fact they changed the connector design now so that it has a hinged clip to hold it to the display's connector.  Despite my difficulties, I fully recommend this upgrade... IPS and the extra pixels really make a difference.

My Thinkpad X240 only comes with an external battery pack, no internal.  I usually power down my laptop at the end of the day.  The following day it won't power on.  I have to remove and re-insert back the battery pack before it turns on. If I power down and leave the laptop for 2hrs it will power up without me having to remove and re-insert back the battery pack.  But if I leave the laptop powered down for more than 3hrs I have to do the process to turn it back on. The battery charges normally, I usually get 4hrs out of the 6 cell pack. I ran the Lenovo Solution Center Comprehensive Tests, no errors found.  I also did the rest button but it won't power on without going thru the process of battery removal.

Hi,I bought a Thinkpad X240 a few months ago, it was working perfectly except the know bug of the "bottom left corner" which happened a few times. But a few days ago, the screen backlight suddenly stopped working. I put it to sleep, I came back home, I opened the lid and the screen didn't light up.The screen itself works perfectly (if you put a light on it you can see what's displayed), and there's no other problem. This doesn't seem to be a software problem since I doesn't work in the BIOS, nor in Windows or Linux.. Why does the backlight would suddenly stop working ? Thanks in advance,

A:Thinkpad X240 no backlight

Same here. The backlight is out in the bios as well so I believe mine is a hardware problem. For other thinkpads, I find people saying this is a surface mount fuse on the motherboard and can be "fixed" by bridging the fuse with solder. But I can't find a fuse near the display port that is bad. The most likely fuse I find is F2 on the backside of the board near the display port, but it doesn't measure as an option circuit so I don't think that one is bad. I will probably buy another broken laptop and swap parts.

I've noticed this behavior after I've used logitech wireless mouse with usb unified reciever. Is there a way to fix this strange behavior? I've already cleaned contacts on the keyboard connector on the motherboard and cable, but it didn't fix the problem. Also it seems like it is not OS dependet, because it has the same behavior in bios/linux/windows 7 & 10.

Hi I have a Thinkpad X240, i7 CPU and running Windows 7 Pro. It will not recognise a USB 3.0 ext HDD when I plug it in. The light is on and the disc is spinning but it does not show up on the laptop. If I plug in a USB 2.0 hub and then plug the HDD into there it works fine, although obviously at USB 2.0 speeds. If I disable USB 3.0 in the BIOS, it is also detected and works, again at the slower speed. I have tried every update I can find. Through the Thinkpad system update system and drivers direct from Intel for the USB controller. I have updated the BIOS and chipset controller. Does anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks

Hello, I have a thinkpad X240. The Trackpoint button (nipple) has never worked since I've had it. The computer used to have Windows 8.1, however now it has been upgraded to Windows 10. The trackpoint button still did not work after the upgrade. I have tried updating the BIOS to the latest version, with still no change. The keyboard was recently replaced by a Lenovo tech as some keys stopped working properly, which means that the trackpoint button was replaced too. However, it still does not work. I have tried completely removing and re-installing the Synaptics driver from the lenovo website. The Trackpoint button shows as "Enabled" in the BIOS. Below is a screenshot of the "Thinkpad" tab in the mouse section of the control panel. I am guessing that there is supposed to be another option under the "Pointing options" dropdown menu which allows the Trackpoint button to be enabled.  If anybody has any suggestions as to how I can get it working, that would be appreciated.  Thank you

The temperature of the laptop is normal, not warm or heating up like it is being used. I have removed the external battery and power adapter, pushed the power button for more than 3mins., put back the battery and plugged the power adapter (the power button blinks when I plug the power adapter as it usually does when) and pushed the power button back - nothing happens. The Fn, Mute and Microphone buttons are still lit up and the TP is not turning on.I haven't pushed the emergency reset button at the back (I fear that I might lose all my files).Up until now, the same 3-keys are lit up. I need help as soon as possible.

Hello, Fn key not function at all.  I've tried to swap Fn and Ctrl keys from BIOS, and then Function keys works via the Ctrl key, but the Fn key does not work as Ctrl. The keyboard just changed to new.BIOS updated to version 2.42Hardware scan test have conducted and passed with no problem found. I can see the light on at the Fn key when the laptop turn on. Really appreciate the help, it's really frustrating since i need to use the Fn key. Thanks and regards,

I want to enable Intel VT. I found the setting inside of the bios, but it's grayed out and cannot be changed. I've already tried updating my bios, and taking out the cmos battery. The bios did reset but it's still gray. It's not the only setting grayed out, i can't change the date or time, boot order, and other things, but there are some settings i can change. I have also tried ctrl = f1 in the bios, and making a supervisor password, but that's grayed out too. My Proccesor: http://ark.intel.com/products/75459/Intel-Core-i5-4200U-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-2_60-GHzIntel® Virtualization Technology (VT-x) ?Yes

Hi! I am experiencing a weird glitch that happens to my laptop keyboard.  Last weekend, I have discovered that only 5 and 6 keys work on the top row number keys of my keyboard. Also, F10, F11, F12, Home key and Delete keys don't work. Other keys are working. I have tried the keys multiple times but the don't register anything on the screen. I have tried booting in my linux system and the problem persists. I have tried multiple reboots, load optimized settings in bios  Upon testing the top number row, I have discovered that pressing 6, 7, and 8 key, simultaneously, registers an "equal sign (=)" on notepad, and 3, 4, and 5 keys registers an F2 equivalent click, which proves that the keys aren't broken.  Yesterday, upon booting up my system, all the keys seem to be perfectly working again.  However, last night (up until now)(out of the blue), the aforementioned keys suddenly didn't work again. Anyone having the same problem? Any solutions, guys? Thank you!

Hello community, I own a ThinkPad x240 and have an original 63+ (was it?) Battery in it. But when I boot I get the 0190 Critical Low Batter Error, booting with AC works fine. Windows says there is now Battery but after unplugging the AC it still is on and continues to be so for 8 or more hours. I trief the Battery out, AC out, press Powerbutton for 50sec.  Now I wanna update the BIOS to see if that helps, but without a Battery this is a nightmare.. Any advice? Greetings from Germany,Till
