Inspiron 5558 .... If i unplug my adapter this laptop doesn't work,even though there is battery...
Did all kind of test like " powercfg -energy -output ...."...updated my BIOS too
Takes long time to start also has display issues like getting stuck if i open my pc ... guessing it is due to the battery or adapter or BIOS problem.
& here's another problem have 0% available & your software only does updates if it has 10% or more battery or something like that...
Would be much obliged if u fix this *** problem?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

Hi Guys, I have had to change my battery, got a brand new DELL battery but I can't get it to charge...I'm running Windows 10 PRO. I have tried the fixes listed above but unfortunately NONE has solved my problem. Any suggestions?

Where have you purchased the battery from? Does the old battery charge fine when plugged in?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible? 
Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check the adapter status in BIOS with and without the adapter plugged in. Also, wiggle the adapter cable at the end and see if the status changes in BIOS at any point. Check the battery health in BIOS (if applicable).
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Test another power adapter and check. If the adapter fits in loose, then the dc port needs to be replaced. You would need this part.

Edge 2-1580 LaptopMachine Type Model 80QF0004USwindows 10I have the latest version of BIOS, etc.I downloaded the latest  software versions of everything. The battery is internal, I am unable to get at it without unscrewing the casing.Error is that the battery is not charging, windows message says it is charging.Lenovo Vantage says battery is in good condition. (see screenshot attached)and yes, the battery was good for hours. laptop is still rather new-ishOne day, battery was not auto charging. I did the trick of pressing the power button when plugged and unplugged.It did work two times, but now is not anymore.works otherwise, as long as it is plugged in. It actually takes a few minutes when plugged in before I can turn it on.

I have a DELL Inspiron N5110 from early 2011
I was using the laptop correctly..The laptop was plugged in and the battery was charging..Then i removed the charger let the laptop on battery until suddenly the laptop shuts down without even telling me that the battery is low or even leaving some "emergency" charge on it (usually 7% or 5% i don't know)..I plugged it in to charge it again and open my leptop and i found out that the battery is not taking charge anymore!
I tried to see if the propblem is with the connector and tried to remove and put in again the charger and it ddid not work
i tried also to remove the battery and put it in again, it did not help
Now it is stuck on 2% of charge from 5 days and it's plugged in!
The laptop says that the battery is charging, but actually it is not charging and the charge level is the same from days
I looked up some solutions online like uninstalling ACPI microsof from Device manager and reboot the laptop..It did not work
"Jauge de batterie" which is an integrated software related to DELL, says that the battery health is good and that my battery is working properly
The laptop works fine with only the charger plugged in and battery out
PS: the laptop heats usually but i think it did not affect the battery at all since it was working fine and the charge took me about at minimum 30 min on high performance to be emptyed before this happens.

A:Battery says: Charging, but it is not actually charging while plugged in and is stuck in 2% for 5 days !

First thing to check is wherther the sysetm recognizes the AC adapter - F2 at powerup to check that.
If it doesn't, try a new Dell OEM AC adapter - if that doesn't fix the issue, replace the DC jack board, and if that doesn't solve it, the mainboard.  Note:  you MUST use a Dell adapter - NOT a third party unit.
If the system DOES recognize the AC adapter, but won't charge the battery, chances are the battery is bad and will need to be replaced.
You cannot solve the issue without checking and, if necessary, replacing these parts.

Dell laptop not charging..getting message plugged in not charging I brought Dell Inspiron 14R laptop 2 years back . My laptop is not getting on with battery..only when power cable is plugged in its getting on..but getting message saying "plugged in not charging"...replace the battery.

i have been using this laptop for 2 years i get it from my friend .

from start it always charges battery upto 56 percent.

and i thought that there is problem in the battery cell and in few months battery backup becomes very short.

Yesterday i bought a new battery for my laptop but it is giving me the same problem which i had with my previous battery.

So this is not battery problem.



Things i have tried



1)Removing battery and uninstalling windows ac adaptor from Device manager.

2)Removing both battery and power Adaptor and pushing the power button for 20 sec if there is any residuel current.



Nothing has worked for me so far.

I would be thankful for your guidance.

Hi ! Over the past two weeks I've spent my time troubleshooting why my recently (used) bought X240 is not charging the internal battery. Short timeline: 1. Bought used X240 in good condition but with dead internal and external battery - working well when using power supply.2. Came home and tested that thing -> both batteries show "0% - not charging" (with Win10Pro installed) *suprise, surprise*3. Ordered both new internal and external battery.4. External battery came 1.5 weeks ago. Installed it and worked like a charm (Battery 2 (external): X%, charging).5. Internal battery came the day before yesterday. Installed it and did not work -> "Battery 1: 53% - plugged in, charging - Battery 2: 6% - plugged in, not charging)6. Waited the recommended 6-12 hours like it was written in the "manual" to get it fully charged.7. Next morning -> Batterystatus unchanged (see point 5) ... It's stuck at 53%. Though the status says it's charging, it doesn't.8. Simply tried out what's going to happen when I pull the cable of the power supply -> Notebook instant off *hmmm*9. As the external battery was obviously blocked from charging by the internal (as it was not charged), I've taken out the internal battery again and et voila, external battery is charging again.I've tried to remove both batteries and perform the "Magic Trick" (press the main power switch for 30 secs) and I've also pushed the "reset" switch on the backside near the battery. Hi my laptop today morning had an issue. When I plugged my charger I was not charging and there was no indication of being charged. Even the charging indicator light didn't show up when connected. Hey,

I just got my computer back from having the motherboard switched out because of another problem, but now my battery will not charge. The light is on and it says it is charging, but it isn't. Should I attempt a gauge reset or something else?

It is a Lenovo y50, which I have had for 3 months. The battery needs to be unscrewed from the back.

If it is not charging maybe the battery is defective.
Did they gave you back the original charger?
Did they install another different motherboard which might use a different charger?
You may need to contact the person who repaired it to find out.

Hi,
I have a dell xps 12, bought in 2012. Recently the battery stopped charging. The battery shows 0%, so I have to be plugged in to turn the laptop on. When it is on, the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, charging" but after a day it is still 0%.
Since then I bought a new battery. Just fitted it, but now the battery icon on the task bar says "plugged in, not charging". Furthermore, when I Fn+F3 to show the battery meter, it says "battery charging diabled". There is no option here to turn battery charging on. Nor is there an option to enable battery charging in BIOS. 
BIOS does show battery performing normally, so does the battery meter (Fn+F3). BIOS also shows AC adapter as 45W, which is the original adapter.
Any help is appreciated!

I am not sure if the battery is the problem, but it seems to be. When plugged in, the battery will not charge UNLESS the computer is shut down. Then it seems to charge. When turned back on, it might charge for a minute or two but then it's back to the message "plugged in, not charging." The battery life stays consistant when plugged in, it just won't charge any higher. At the moment it is stuck at 87% after dying on me this morning. I was working perfectly last night.  I have taken the battery out and turned the computer on with only the AC plugged in and it does work. My theory is it's the battery but I'm not sure.  The last thing I did was run a battery test and an AC adapter test through the UEFI menu. Both passed. Can someone please help? I am so lost on what I should do now!

Need Help!

The problem started from June 2, 2015 about 4 AM (UTC +8:00 Philippine, Manila)

I open my Notebook that morning to check on my e-mails and bills at gmail but it's not powering up. At first I thought that the battery was slightly drained because I saw my sister still using it at midnight. I asked her if she did not plugged in the charger when it is nearly drained but she said she plugged it and it is still full when she shut it down.

It is Li-ion Battery

I tried plugging in the charger to check whether it still has remaining battery. It powered up.
On the taskbar/notifications/running apps it says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging).
So to check out the problem, I left it turned off charging for about two hours.

Then after two hours it still says 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
What the hell is this?! I asked my self.
I installed an app to check the status of the battery (Battery Bar)
Battery Bar says something like this:
Capacity: 2K of 8K mWh (not sure about this)
Charging: 0 mW
Running on AC
7.9% Available
Something like that.

Summary Notes:
1. Does not power up without Charger
2. It detects the Battery saying 8% Available (Plugged In, Charging)
3. Though Plugged In, Charging it does not charge at all because of 0 mW charge rate
4. It turns off when the Charger is plugged out.
5. It still run even without the Battery (when the Charger was plugged in of course, then a red x mark shows in the notification taskbar battery icon)

My dell Inspiron 3420 bios version A09 suddenly stopped charging battery , and the power icon show this message(Plugged in and charging) but my battery does not charge.
I tested another charger and another battery but did not help.
Thinking that changing bios might  help,I am trying to change the bios but can't downgrade even i tried /forceit command. 
I can access logic board if for troubleshooting someone could educate me about  voltages of sda, scl and dc jack connector to the board.

I found out yesterday morning that for some reason, the battery on my laptop isn't charging. I'm staying at my mother's house for the weekend and since then the problem has occured. At home, it always charged properly and never gave me any problems.  Could I need a new battery? To whom it may concern.I am in desperate help..... I have tried every solution i have managed to find on the internet but none of them work. I have a HP ProBook 450 G1 Laptop. When plugging the power supply in the batery shows that its charging but it never actually charges but simply remians on at same level.....I have checked the power supply as I have an exact duplicate laptop at my disposal, same with the battery. The battery charges perfectly in the other laptop but not in my laptop. When swithcing the batteries form the other pc it will not charge in my PC. bot both are fine in the other PC. I have removed the battery, checked power supply, un-installed and reinstalled the ACPI-complaint and adapter as suggested by most. I have done what ever solution i can have managed to find but neither have worked but the battery works  just fine when inserting into the other duplicate laptop and charges fine. I have tried to instal or upgrade BIOS settings etc. Nothing has worked for me! Please can someone point me in the correct direction!!!!!! Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

After searching Forums and speaking to HP regarding this message/issue I have done the on board testing which  told me the battery was at fault(eroneously) I found a post asking me to check the tiny copper pin on the charging cord that plugs into the PC and sure enough it was bent and after straightening it the problem is solved,

I am more than a bit annoyed.

I got this HP pavilion "entertainment PC" last September so i could get back to school. I upgraded to Windows 7 In Late November and really started to used the computer in January. I began to notice two things. 1) Even though it was a so-called "Entertainment PC," The battery life when not connected is at 20 minutes at best when viewing media, and around 40 when not. 2) When the AC adapter is plugged in, the battery will not charge. Instead, I get a message stating "Plugged in, not charging"

I have tried turning the pc off , waiting and then turning it back on.
I have tried removing the battery, waiting, and then putting it back in
I have tried removing the battery drivers, and lettign the system restore them automatically, upon restarting.

The last solution worked for a few moments, the charge went u to 40, then 45 % then it suddenly stopped charging again.
Now nothing I do will get it to charge. I contacted HP Customer Service. Their solution is to send me a new battery, but only After i give them my Credit card number so they can hold it. I am under warranty they refuse to assist me without me paying them and I cannot afford to.

Is there anything I can to do fix this problem on my own? i don't like being bent over, and that was why I Stopped dealing with DELL, but it looks like i am getting the same crap from a different company. At least my Dell Desktop has lasted the last 9 years without catastrophi... Read more

Hi Kuru, To me its a duff battery and it has to go. Its only going to get worse and worse until it holds no charge at all. You said "but only After i give them my Credit card number so they can hold it."
Can you please clarify that they wanted you to pay for the replacement battery or the cost of sending it to you ?

Perhaps they might think you are not telling the truth so you can get a new battery and sell on. In taking CC details they can charge you for a new one if you don't send back the old one ?
Unless the battery is excluded from the guarentee, not sure about US consumer protection laws
But if they just want postage then you might like to reconsider. Please clarify.

Hello, I am not sure if this is in the right section but...

Recently my laptop's battery indicator has said "plugged in, not charging" at random times. It is at random times as I said and it does charge and can hold a charge. The battery check was fine. I am at a loss at what to do. I have an HP G60 235DX. HP wants me to send it out because they believe it's the needle inside the laptop... I'm not so sure of this. They didn't seem to understand what I was saying nor even try to.

Hi pinta, and welcome to TSG.

The problem may be that the laptop is sensing that the AC adapter is plugged into the computer but sometimes there is no voltage coming through the connection.

The "needle" the support person was referring to might be the center pin of the power jack on the laptop. Its solder connection inside the laptop may be broken and intermittent or it is not making good contact with the plug from the adapter.

EDIT: If the power jack in the laptop is on its own small circuit board, it may use small round needle like contacts to plug into the main board. An intermittent connection through one of those pins might also cause the fault message.

Hey Guys, My HP Omen says plugged in, not charging. I have already tried to reset the computer, upgrade BIOS, and uninstall Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. I tested power using HP PC Hardware Diagnostics and it said ok. I also tested HP battery check using HP support Assistant, it also said OK. I'm unable to remove the battery, so I'm kind of stuck. I'm also getting "Please connect a higher capacity Smart AC Adapter for full Performance", but I was getting that before and it still charged. There is white light next to AC Adapter when it's on and orange when it's off. The computer also seems to charge only when it's in sleep mode or fully shut down. I also got it to charge one time when the AC light flicker between orange and white when plugged in; however when I unplugged it I got back to plugged in and not charging. I'm also getting really low fps. Going from 200 fps to 10-20fps. I can make it go up to 40-60 when I unplug the computer and replug it, but I have to constantly unplug and replug whenever I play a new game. Help please. Thanks,Ben

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 5558 at the end of December. Within the past couple of weeks, I received notices that my computer was not charging and that my AC adapter was unidentified, I tried all of the diagnostic tests offered  the Dell website but they said that everything was fine. Is this a software or hardware issue What is the next step?

Hello! Recently my adapter burned due to being exposed to water. Anyway, I contacted the Hp parts store and ordered the replacement adapter. However, when I plugged it in it shows that it is charging  then suddenly it stops and it says (Plugged in, not charging). I ordered the adapter's replacement that was mentioned on my old adapter. I have no idea what could be causing the problem!Please help!

Asus Windows 8
It is plugged in to charger, but tells me its not charging. I just got this about a month ago. Im a college student so I don't have time for this and I need my laptop for my classes. I've tried resetting the computer, ive tried shutting it down. ive tried looking at battery options. ive looked at the cord for damage and I don't see any, what am I suppose to do? I need it for tomorrow!?

Pull the battery from the machine, then reinstall it.

Hi, I initially had a problem when my battery was plugged in but it wasn't charging. Later on, after a few searches here and there, including on hp forums, I found a post that explained the problem. So, I followed the instructions in that post to the letter, and it worked. But not for long, I turned off the laptop at night and when I turned it on in the morning again, it displayed the same message, "Plugged in, not charging". I repeated the same steps and then it started to charge again, but then when I shut it down and turned it on again, it did the same thing. I can't keep doing this again and again, I need a permanent solution. Hi, I have a dv7-3111ea notebook and i get this message "plugged in, not charging" i replaced my battery with a new one but still says "plugged in, not charging" most of the time? ps does a new battery have to be calibrated? because i brought a new hp battery and when tested the battery with hp battery tester in the boot menu, the battery test failed and the when i tryed to do it again, it started to caliberate. why did that happen when it's a new battery???

No, a new battery does not need calibrating. If you leave the laptop turned off but plugged in overnight, does it charge the battery to full?

Hello,   I have a new (9 months old) HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab268ca.  I have used this computer very little as my last computer was still operating and I wanted to finish some projects off on it before moving to this new computer.  The computer was fine for the first few uses but now the battery is completely drained, I can only use it if it is plugged in to a power source.  When trying to charge the battery, which I can remove, it says: Plugged in, not charging.   This has become discouraging.  I don't know how to fix this problem.  I'm not sure why a computer that is less than a year old and hasn't been used is doing this.  Since my computer is still under warranty I would like to see this problem fixed.  If someone from HP can contact me and let me know how to fix this or who I have to bring my computer to in order to have my warranty cover this, that would be greatly appreciated.   This is the first time I've bought an HP product and I can honestly say it has been a frustrating process, especially after seeing that this has been a problem for the last few years, judging by other customer's comments.  I hope this can be fixed because I really do like everything this computer can offer, except that it's battery won't charge, rendering my laptop useless.  Thank you very much for your reply, Michael

The usual problem of battery "plugged in and ot charging".. Only thing is that this is an inbuilt battery and non removable! So cant use the normal method as posted out on forum for same category.I have 1+1 year warranty on this product and interestingly the battery started showing this problem just as soon as warranty for battery expired. Want to know is someone else faced this issue too! and what's the solution.

Started up my laptop and error message, battery out of memory. Hit enter to resart computer. Went to check on battery level and said plugged in not charging. Not sure what this means and how to fix the issue. I've had the laptop since Febuary 2015 with no issues.

Hi,      Basically my Hp laptop that i have had for just over year is coming up with 'plugged in not charging' or just doesnt recognise the charger at all. My laptop will only charge if it is in sleep mode or completely turned off. With just AC adaptor plugged in with no battery, my laptop will not turn on. I have ran all the tests on the battery and they have passed. Really need help to figure out what is wrong because all methods used on internet does not work. One did work for about 2 weeks then started to play up again. I have even downgraded the updates on my laptop form windows 10 to 8 and still doesnt work.  Need advise soon as. Many thanks.

Hi!  My battery reads, plugged in, not charging.  I have an internal battery so the previous solutions does not apply to my problem.  I did the battery diagnostics and it said my battery is ok.   I tried troubleshooting tutorials in you tube and it still did not solve my problem. Please help.

I have Dell inspiron 13 7359 laptop. I bought this in November 2015. I have a strange problem with this laptop currently.  When i plug it in, it shows "Plugged in not charging" and the laptop speed dramatically slows down. When i unplug it, it behaves normally. 
It also displays "AC Adapter not recognized" while booting up. I tried everything i can.
1) I bought a new AC adapter - when i plugged it in for the first time it got charged, i thought the problem is fixed. Then the issue started occurring since the second charge onwards.
2) I updated the BIOS - Did not fix the problem
3) I Reinstalled the windows - Did not fix the problem
4) I replaced the battery - Did not fix the problem
5) I replaced the DC connector (the DC socket to the laptop) - Did not fix the problem
6) I even replaced the mother board - Did not fix the problem.
7) I tried charging it at different power outlets - Did not fix the problem
8) I bought a new AC adapter (this time 65W) - Worked for the first charge, but it behaves the same way from the second charge onwards. 
I am really fed up with this and don't know what to do. Please help me. I stay in a small country in Illinois and have no authorized dell service centre to which i can take my laptop to. Any kind of help would be appreciated.

After a major error on my part last December, I had a Tech "Fix" my Laptop 3 Motherboards 2 chargers and one battery later., he ended saying he had purchased me a new Laptop of the same model but had installed my old Hard drive. She ran beautifully after I did a refresh and got rid of all the crud that had built up over the 2 and a half year period. One month to the day later, same thing Plugged in not charging. I sent him a text and he said it was under warranty, call ASUS with the new serial # and they say it ran out of Warranty 16/06/2016 (Over 2 years ago) but would honour Warranty with an Invoice if within a year. He won't answer me to get an invoice so I can claim through Warranty, so it makes me wonder IF it was new, or just refurbished, as the serial # in the BIOS is a new serial number to what I originally purchased. I use my Laptop from 2 pm to 5-6am every day.  I have a five-month-old Pavilion 13X360 PC (product number G6S88UA) and I upgraded to Windows 10 within the first month without any problem.   Yesterday, I received the message "78% available; plugged in, not charging".    The light at the power source blinks constantly, even when the power is off and when I unplug it,  the computer shuts off.   The power cable came out of its socket unbeknownst to me, and now it says 8% available.  I know this problem has appeared before with different answers and different levels of success.   Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem on this computer.   I look forward to your response.  Thank you.

The laptop is plugged in and the little LED light is on. The laptop is currently at 8% and is working fine but the battery is not charging. Further, the fan inside the laptop has been working continuously for the past half an hour. I request you suggest me ways to take care of this myself as I have exams  right now and won't be able to take the laptop to a service center. My laptop is an i7 5th Gen with serial number 5CD5174XQ6.

Yeah, hi, me again.

Aside from my memory issue, this idiotic thing has been showing up in the last few days. This message, found when hovered over my battery icon, varies in percentage by the day, but I have no idea what this means. I'm assuming that either something is lost in translation between my battery and my computer, or my charging cable/port is somehow shorted/damaged internally, as I cannot find any obvious physical damage on either. You guys have any tests I can try? Dell support is a pain in my ***.

hi recently my T460p thinkpad is showing as plugged in, not charging. battery helth and status is good. can i have a solution insted of replacing battery ? using different power adaptor also it shown same error. what can i Do for this issue get solved.

Welcome to the forum.
 
Go to Lenovo Settings. Click the battey icon on the left tool bar to go to Power Status. Scroll down to Battery Charge Threshold. Is it enabled? If so then that may be inhibiting the battery from charging beyond the threshold percentage.
 
At the top of the Power Status page click Show Details. A Status of "No Activity" will confirm this. Otherwise the status will be either "Charging" or "Discharging."
