Preferred Solution: Windows mail and Windows live mail - Auto opening and wheres the new stationary?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm beginning to encounter a real problem with my Windows Live Mail [Hotmail] account. I am referring to the 'online' display for Live Mail, as opposed to the web-based version [requires sign-on]. This displayed version;

If I click on to the Live Mail icon in the Quick Launch tray, the 'timer' symbol appears briefly......then nothing.

I have been able to restore some function by going to Control Panel>Programs and Features>Windows Live Essentials, and carrying out a Repair of Windows Live Features. As a last resort, I've also carried out a couple of instances of System Restore. I realise that this latter action is rather drastic, but I cannot think of any other alternative.

Just a thought though, is there any danger of losing all my Hotmail Accounts [I have two] Folders and Messages, should I decide to Uninstall, then Reinstall Windows Live Mail?

After earlier editing this post for the first time, I continued to look for a solution in Vista Forums, and eventually found it in Brink's post on Windows Live Suite Downloads, here;

It was here that I noticed that the Version of Live Mail that I was using [14.0.8050.1202], was different to the updated Version mentioned in Brink's post [14.0.8064.0206].

Initially, I tried to do the update using my Firefox 3.0.12 browser, but soon realised that it was more appropriate to do the Windows Live Mail update using Internet Explorer 8 as the browser, and by downlo... Read more

Someone started a thread about this problem over a year ago but there was no resolution so i'm having to re ask the question.
Windows Live mail is constantly opening on its own whenever i'm using any program that uses full screen, in particular games, the problem isnt Live Mail as i set Windows Mail as default instead to see if the problem occured and sure enough it did. I uninstalled Live Mail and set Windows Mail to not check for mail at all, but the program still popped up pushing the full screen program i was using to the taskbar. I have fully scanned my system for virus's, malware etc and its clean, i'm using Bit Defender Security Suite, again as a test i shut down its mail scanner option, no effect, i fully disabled the whole suite, no effect.
I've scoured the internet for this problem and the only place i've found a record of it is in these forums but as i said at the beginning it was over a year ago.
Quite frankly its driving me round the bend so any idea's would be welcome as i've run out of ideas

I am running IE7 with Vista. I have had alot of problems opening Windows Live Mail. I click on the icon and sometimes it just stalls and fails to load. I have tried looking online for any kind of troubleshooting to solve this problem, but find nothing.
Is there a gliche in the program itself, or is there something I can do to remedy this? If I can't open it, I have to reboot the comp. Most of the time it solves the problem, but only temporarily.

Hello all, I'm new here, so here goes. I have searched the forums and not found an answer to this problem, so I hope I'm not re-asking an old question...

I am running Windows Seven Home Premium 64-bit and Windows Update isn't showing any more possible updates.

My computer is a HP Pavilion e9110t Intel Core2 Quad 2.66GHz processor.

Here's my Problem:
When I am in Windows Live Mail and click on a link to open Internet Explorer and go to that link, what ever it is, I receive the message: "There was a problem sending the command to the program." It starts IE, but all I have is a blank page.

Now, if I go back to the link, with IE open and try it again, it will go to the link. If I open IE before hand and then click on the link, it will go there.

This problem doesn't keep me from getting things done, but it is sure a nuisance. Any help that anyone could offer would be much appreciated.

Here is a attachment of the error, probably seen it before though.

A:Error when opening a link in Windows Live Mail

I am an IT Subcontractor/Technical Consultant. I have a client who was experiencing exactly the same issue. She would click on links within her e-mails and Windows Live Mail would open a blank IE screen with a second pop-up displaying the same error you have posted. Initially I found no real solution. The forums online said to reset IE to the default browser to fix the issue. I reset IE to the default browser and it did not fix the issue. I also reset Windows Live Mail to the default mail client but that did not help either. At the suggestion of my main outfit Eberly Systems, I downloaded Firefox and set that as the default browser. Once I did that, links inside of Windows Live Mail e-mails opened without issue. I cannot say this is a "fix" for the problem, but it gets it working again.

My programe is windows Home Basic so if anyone out there can give me the instractions on how to do it would be much appreciated .

A:windows mail stationary

Hello ms butterfly05,

If you can save those zipped files to a folder, you can always open them up from within the saved folder location.

If they are in a zipped format other than *.zip, you can always use:

7-Zip (Free. Opens just about everything. Check whether you have x32 version of Vista or x64)

or WinRAR (shareware. Not free)

I personally don't use mail, so unfortunately I don't know how to open those zipped files from within mail.

Good luck and feel free to post back if you need a hand

I'm using build 15.4.3555.0308 (the latest) and every time I open the program to view my emails, it freezes and the new messages are shown in the Inbox but can't be read. I can't close the program except with Task Manager & then ending the process. I've tried repairing via Programs & Features (several times) but that didn't work. I even tried reinstalling over the existing program but that didn't work either. It seems like the only thing not tried is to completely remove WLM but I have a few folders not in my email address that I don't want to lose, not sure if they would come back upon a new install. Tried a reboot (several times) but still the problem persists.

Make sure you have the correct configuration. There are many factors, if this is a @gmail account, they support "pop" and "imap", but you need to enable some settings in your account. Depending on your mail provider, this could be an issue on thier end so check if you can login via webmail without any issues, if that works, you might want to try another email client like Thunderbird as a test. I hope this helps.

Thanks in advance to anyone that may be able to help with this. I'm going to try to explain things as best as I can.

I recently contracted some kind of malware (message kept appearing on the bottom right hand side icon tray - very annoying!).

Anyway I didn't want to reinstall Windows XP so decided to try and remove the malware. Found some forums which recommended the use of Spybot and SuperANTISPYWARE and CCleaner to sort out the problem.

I did, after some time, manage to clear up the infection (at least it seams like I did), but now there is another very nagging issue: whenever I attempt to create a new message in Windows Live Mail (or reply to an existing message), I have to wait for about 3 minutes for a windows to come up. This problem is very frustrating and never happened before; I've never had any trouble with Live Mail.

Can anyone solve this? I is it taking so long for a simple blank Window to open and be ready for a new message?

I found a site that suggested it may have something to do with the restricted sites list and a recent Windows update, which forces Live Mail to look through a huge list compiled by the Spybot immunization feature. But I have now cleared the list completely and nothing the problem is still there.

I've searched and searched for a solution for this problem online but so far have found nothing - please, please help!? If you need anymore info please let me know.

MS and their mail systems are giving me grief. I have a Vista 32 PC using "Windows Mail" and want to transfer email folders (lots) and messages to Windows 7 using Windows Live Mail 2011.

Note: Windows Mail was a replacement for Outlook express on Vista.
Windows Live Mail 2011 is a replacement for Windows Mail on Windows 7.

I tried a couple of things.

1) Basic Export and ImportI exported relavent files: Account info, Contacts and all the messages to a folder (in Windows Mail format) on old computer and used the old "Addias" transfer - copied folder to stick and RAN it over to the new computer.
- Imported (using the Windows Mail format) the Account info successfully,
- imported the Contact info successfully.
- Import Messages - appeared at first to be successful

Issue: Message folders appear to be renamed and some folder names have been truncated, not all folders appear to be there. (Looks like "long Name folders greater that 8 characters get truncated)

2) Tried the "Easy transfer mechanism (Vista and Win7 transfer utility) - but couldn't get the new computer to see the Vista even though I could see them on the network. I thought that this would transfer the folder names correctly.
I'm about to try a time consuming effort of coping folder by folder (export/Import)
What I am more concerned about is that the individaul messages may have the same issue Ie not all coming accross and subject names being lost.

A:Solved: Troubles transferring Windows Mail Vista to Win7 Windows Live Mail 2011

I get a little nauseous just thinking about Windows Live Mail 2011, much less expending effort to use it, but I would try installing it on the Vista and see if it has the option right up front of importing stuff from Windows Mail. If it does, and happens to work correctly, then all you would have to do is find its files and copy them over.

By the way, are you putting on airs with "Addias" transfer? We plebeians just used "sneaker net."

Until recently I could open Word documents attached to emails sent or received in Windows Live Mail. Suddenly this has stopped.

Other file types e.g. Excel still open if I double click on them or choose open - up comes a box that asks 'do you want to open this file? and I simply click 'open'. But for the past week or so I have been unable to open attached Word documents. If I double click on the word doc or click open the document opens in Wordpad. I have spent hours looking online and trying to sort this out.

Can anyone help me please? I want to be able to double click or hit the 'open' option and have the document open in Word, like it used to. I know I can use 'save as ' but it's more time consuming.

Can anyone think why this would just change like this?

I have read many of the other forum threads hoping to solve this issue... to no avail.

I have been running Windows Mail on my laptop for seven months now with no issue. After changing my password, Windows Mail no longer wants to send or receive email.

I have tried many things (from other people's successes) to solve this problem:
- Changed my password again (note: both password changes have been successful in my webmail and in downloading to my Blackberry)
- Removed the email account and readded it
- Disabled the auto scan components of McAfee
- Uninstalled McAfee
- Repeated earlier deletions and additions of my email account
- Downloaded Windows Live Mail to the same errors and repeat of the above
- Reset my password/account through the email host/server

Here is the error message from Windows Live Mail:

Hey everyone. I have been on a mission to solve this problem. I've been seeking out and posting on several MS/tech/computer support forums looking for an answer. I've also spent quite a bit of time googling for a solution on my own. So far I have come up empty handed.

My situtaiton and problem is as follows:

I'm working in a small office where we have some computers running Windows Vista and using Windows Mail (version 6.0.6000.16388). We have hundreds of contacts and a couple of contact groups on these computer.

A few months ago we got two new computers which are using Windows XP and Windows Live mail (version 2009, build 14.0.8089.0726). Other computers in the office still have Vista and the other version of Windows Mail.

I have been able to export our hundreds of contacts and import them into Windows Live Mail so the new computers have all of the contacts... however I was unable to find a way to import the groups.

These groups are all very large and consist mostly/entirely out of contacts which don't have individual contact entries.

I have been googling to find a solution to this problem. The closest page I could find was this one:

I was very discouraged when I saw the big red warning near the top of the page:

In Contact Groups from Vista, only the contacts that are also included as normal Contacts will be imported into Windows Live Mail. Contacts that were created fo... Read more

Microsoft is "upgrading" people's  @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, and @msn.com accounts, to a new Outlook.com (built upon the latest Office 365 infrastructure), which is INcompatible with Live Mail 2012 (and presumably older versions as well):  Effective late June 2016, Windows Live Mail 2012 will no longer synchronize emails, contacts, and calendar events from these email accounts.
People who use Windows Live Mail 2012 to connect to other email services, including Gmail, Yahoo Mail, or other services that use POP3 or IMAP protocols, do not need to take action.
Is this another veiled attempt to force users to "upgrade" from Windows 7?
Users can still access their e-mail via their web browser(s).   Or they can use the new Outlook.com and/or a Mail app on Windows 8.1/10

Don I might be way off track here mate but was the Outlook account the same email address as you have set up in WLM?

Just a thought you might try adding an account to WLM using the old address and password. I did this with my old account from my service provider then went to a Hotmail account.
Now admittedly it was still within WLM but worth a try.

What I will do is try and add my work account (Outlook) to my WLM and see if it works.

PS It added the account but I have to get the POP and STMP settings right first.

I have several mail accounts.
I have now created 2 HTML mail signatures incl. a logo and attached them to 2 different mail accounts.
Problem 1: If I create a new email, then no matter what mail accounts is set, it will always put in the default mail signature.

So, I looked in forums and removed the auto insert signature in all emails, as someone suggested.

Problem 2: If I create a new email I have to insert it manually myself. (When I do it here, the insert menu has the choice of 2 signatures)

Problem 3: If I insert the one with the image, the image is not shown, only the object frame. And there is no image in the final email in the receivers inbox. (When I do it here, the insert menu has the choice of 2 signatures)

ONLY, if I REPLY on an already received email and then click insert mail signature.. THEN the mail signature comes correct with the image. (Here the insert menu only has 1 signature, the one attached to the mail account).

Has anyone found the reason and solution for this? MICROSOFT!!
PS: its on Windows 7.

I've had a problem ever since Windows Live Mail was upgraded to the 2011 version.

I've been able to receive e-mail regularly and send some messages, but apparently some of my sent mail never reaches the recipient. I've now had several people tell me they never got my messages. I have multiple accounts from different service providers, and it doesn't seem to matter which account I use to send - some recipients never get the messages, and they are NOT in a spam folder etc. particularly Gmail users have had trouble receiving my mail, but again a few messages have gone through. one person didn't get about 5 of my e-mails, but one came through so this seems quite irregular.

All my accounts in Live Mail use the same smtp server, which is my ISP's server. I have checked that its correct, and as mentioned it works half the time. I also use the same server on my laptop, and it seems to work fine. the server does not use authentication etc.

so the combination that doesn't seem to work is Live Mail and the outgoing server. is there anything I can do to pinpoint the problem further?

A:Windows Live Mail 2011 - sent mail leaves outbox but disappears

Thanks for the message. I found it through Google.

This feels much more complicated than using the Outbox in Window XP

After editing an email when you go to Send it
there is a little drop-down warning box that it will be sent automatically
next time you are connected to the internet.

This time can seem erratic even when you are on a wireless connection all the time.

So you cannot use Outbox to double check.

I have been using WLM for some years. Yesterday, it stopped sending emails and now just leaves them in the Outbox. Here is most of what appears in the error box:

The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's email address. The sender's email address was '[email protected]'.
Subject 'Newsflash'
Server Error: 553
Server Response: 553 Sorry, over your daily relay limit.
Server: 'smtpout.secureserver.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC78
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 80
Secure(SSL): No

I don't send many emails and don't send emails with large attachments, so I don't know why the "over your daily relay limit" message appears.

Port 80 has worked for a long time and works (sends emails) from the other computers on the network, so it doesn't seem like I should need to select a different port number.

The "My server requires authentication" box is selected/ticked.

None of the settings have been changed for a long time.

Our ISP is GoDaddy.

Thanks for any advice.

Our Windows Live Mail accounts receive blank messages when someone sends a calendar appointment request from an Outlook account. The same message arrives correctly in a gmail account or in my Outlook account at work. Is this a Live Mail Configuration issue?

A:Windows Live Mail not receiving calendar info from Outlook mail

Hi adfrench, welcome to Seven Forums.

You must sign-in to WLM with the same Outlook.com account your using for the calendar.

I use the new Windows Live Mail client to access two IMAP accounts, Gmail and one provided by my University. Gmail works such that whenever you send an email through it, it automatically puts a copy in the Sent Mail folder. So if the WLM client tries to put a copy there as well, you end up with two copies of the email in the Sent Mail folder. The University IMAP account doesn't work like this. A copy will only appear in the Sent Mail folder for that account if the client program puts a copy there.

So the problem is the way WLM handles this. Most IMAP settings are specific to the account. You right click on an account, go to settings, and then go to the IMAP section and specify the folders and stuff like that. However, the option of whether or not WLM puts a copy of an email you send in the Sent Mail folder can only be set for the entire client.

In Tools->Options->Send is the checkbox for this option. If it's checked, I get a single copy of sent mail in the University account and two copies in Gmail. If it is unchecked I get no copies for the University account and just one for Gmail.

Does anyone know a way to fix this?

edit: Oh, and a side question, is it possible to make WLM stop showing the number of unread emails in the trash or spam? They're in there because I have no intention of reading them. I don't care how many are unread.

I had to re install my OS. After I did that the fun of installing everything started and one of those things was Windows Live Mail.
I've done this before when I bought my new computer and had some issues importing my mail as well which was the same idea, Live mail to Live mail.

Now I'm facing the issue again and find it hard to find a simple and straight forward answer to my issue as most topics go about Windows mail or show importing methods which aren't the same as I used before so I'll try to explain as good as possible what I encounter.

I click on import messages and select email messages. Then it lets me choose a folder from which I can install. I select my external HD where the back up is. Then when I want to add it I get the option to either select the folders I want to add or I can add all of them. Strange thing here is that it doesn't show my inbox or any subfolder, and I had many subfolders, but only shows the deleted folder. When I do proceed it adds that what it showed and I don't have anything imported other then the deleted folders.

Now I might be doing something wrong as in the past this was the way I could import and export. Maybe I don't have enough rights for the folder?
I do hope that someone can help me out and have a straight forward solution because if I lose all these emails I will go crazy

Looking forward to any help.

A:Trouble importing Windows Live Mail to Windows Live Mail

Name a folder in my documents. Call it Windows live mail backup
Make a sub folder call it backup
Click on options/ email
Click on export mail
It should pop up with all the folders, in box etc.
highlight each folder. You will have to do it with the crtl key because using shift key sometimes does not work
It will then give you a browse where to put it. Put in the backup folder you made. Them copy and paste the folder onto the flash drive
On the new computer you will do the same thing bit you will pick import instead of export

I am using Windows Live Mail to send and receive emails.

Some people do not receive my email. I had noticed that it seemed to be mail sent to hotmail, but it seems that it is more general than that!
I do not know what to do.

One odd thing is, that they will receive it if I forward it to my blackberry and then send it off there!

All settings are correct according to GMail's instructions for IMAP use with Windows Mail. Here is a copy of Windows Live Mail's error message with the recipient changed to hide the personal ID of the original sender/designated recipient:

Go to the website of your ISP, they will show you how to set um WLM. Use their setting for sending. You can use the name of your Gmail account to show as the "send to" for replies.

It has always been my belief that those who use Windows Mail or Windows Live mail and have it set to show the preview pane, will allow a potential virus to spread .Once you download and have it in the preview pane, it is the same as opening the email. Until I find out that this is not true, I have eliminated the preview pane, which can be done from the View Tab.

I have done the same thing in Windows Live Mail, although mainly just because I find it annoying. If I need to read the email, I'll open it, I don't need it on display while I'm sorting old messages.

I'm pretty sure that you're right about viruses being able to spread through the preview pane. But doesn't Outlook also have this "feature"?

i have windows 7 and recently began using the upgraded windows live mail 2011 - after a hard drive crash i had to reinstall everything - however i haven't been able to transfer all of my e-mails over from my backup computer or external hard drive - after waiting a few hours it comes back and asks me if i want to copy all files without their properties which effectively means i cannot transfer those e-mails with the contents - can anyone please tell me how to fix this?

A:windows live mail 2011 - e-mail properties won't transfer

What email program is on your old machine?

If you're going to be trying stuff to get your old mail on your new Win7, be sure to make a backup of all your old mail folders before you do, and put the backup file where you'll know where it is. Probably on your old machine desktop, wouldn't hurt to put another copy on your Win7 desktop as well. Loss hurts!

Questions... are you able to do an "Import" from X, (X being the location of your old (or previous) emails?

Are you able to do an "Export" of the same emails to a file?

Does Windows Live Mail 2011 have the option to "Import emails From" or "Export" to?

One thing you can do is: make a COPY of your old "Inbox" folder and place it, (the "COPY"), on your current Win 7 desktop. Have Windows Live Mail copy it from there. If when you do, it does not then contain items such as "attachments, etc., you could simply delete all the emails in it and try something else. Your original (old emails) are still where they always were, on your other machine or external drive.

My machine is a dual/boot Windows Vista & Windows7. For email I use Windows Mail on both. I know it is oft said that Windows Mail won't work on Win7, trust me it works just fine. The transfer of all my email folders from Vista to Win7 was a painless, simple, walk in the park. Everything transferred, folders and all, nothing was lost.

I'm trying to transfer my Windows Live Mail e-mail contacts to Hotmail. I've converted them all to a csv file (5.65kb). When I import them to Hotmail only the names get transferred.....not the e-mail addresses. Any ideas? Thanks

This thread was previously closed due to lack of answers, however I found a solution.

When importing a csv file into Hotmail, the email address field is expected as "E-mail Address" however in the csv file created by Windows Live Mail the email address field is "Email Address".

Note the missing hyphen. This means that the email address is not transferred over to Hotmail.

The solution is to edit the csv file using Notepad - simply add the hyphen to the top line of the csv file, save the file and import it into Hotmail.

If you have the same problem with other fields, a useful test to see what field names Hotmail expects is to export a contact from Hotmail and then inspect the csv file which is created using Notepad.

Our old XP machine harddrive has just died! This has OE6 on it... I'm now on a Win7 PC with Windows Live Mail... I am trying to find an import option to bring in all my old backed-up folders in the dbx format without any luck.

Any suggestions? I did try Thunderbird then gave up!!

A:Importing Outlook Express mail into Windows Live Mail

I did it a long time ago and cannot recall my method.

If you pound google, you will find numerous methods. If one doesn't work, move on to the next. I do recall that it is a hit and miss affair, so be prepared to experiment.

Primary advice: be sure you have multiple copies of your DBX folders and keep one copy of each folder safe and unaltered. Try the various methods you discover on a copy of the DBX folders.
