Windows Live Messenger sign in ERROR

Q: Windows Live Messenger sign in ERROR

Hello there,

I had a problem signing in into WLM. Every time I sign in into the current version of Windows Live Messenger, I stay in for a few seconds and then there is an error message after which Windows Live Messenger shuts down. I use XP.
The error message is as follows:

"Windows Live Communications Platform has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

The error details are the following:

AppName: wlcomm.exe
ModName: kernel32.dll
AppVer: 14.0.8098.930
Modver: 5.1.2600.5781
offset: 00009eda

I tried to look up the file kernel32.dll and it seems to be legitimate. Is this a spyware/malware problem or is it something else?

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Please help! My windows live messenger is currently having severe problems. Whenever I try to start it, an error icon pops out and says "Windows live messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close". I have tried system restore, uninstall and reinstall, windows live sync and numerous other fixes but they have all failed miserably and my windows live messenger will not work. I suspect this is an old problem, but please help me quickly, thanks.

So I run Windows Live Messenger, hit Sign in, wait a couple seconds, and up comes a windows that says "Windows Live Communications Platform has encountered a problem and needs to close.. We are sorry blah blah blah", just basicaly a "Send Error Report" dialog box..

I hit don't send, and then I'm back to square one. Again, I hit sign in, except it doesn't even do anything, the 2 little people spin around for like 2 seconds, and then I'm back to the sign in screen. Not even an error box.

I'll try signing in again, and sometimes It'll show that same error dialog box.

I've tried doing a repair on the Live programs and also uninstalling and installing again too.

Thanks..

I have just got a new computer with Windows Vista and I downloaded Windows Live messenger but when I go to sign in it just says "sigining in..." and nothing happens. eventually I get error code 81000306. I thought this could be to do with the firewall. I am using BitDefender Internet Security 2008 which has its own firewall and in the settings msnmsgr.exe is set to allow so I can't think what it could be.

thanks,

Hi all, just bought a new PC from Arbico in the UK. It is connected to the internet through my netgear router (wired). I have downloaded and installed Windows Live Essentials, but for some reason cannot sign in to WL Messenger. I get the "connecting" display, which eventually times out - usually to the error code 81000306, but not always that one. If I go to www.hotmail.com and use my windows live ID to sign in then I can access my hotmail, if I use the WL Messenger option in Internet Explorer I cn access my mail too, why is it then that I caano connect to Messenger the other way? I quite like having Messenger running in the background, that way when I am doing something else and I get mail, I see it right away. I am running Windows7 64 bit, IE 64 bit and the latest version of WLM. I have tried a couple of options posted be people in threads elsewhere (ie regedit, and deleting 2 key entries) but nothing seems to work. I have checked my windows firewall (and even turned it off briefly) and the firewall does not appear to be the issue. When my old PC is plugged into the same router I have no problems at all getting Messenger to work (using Windows XP), so that suggests to me that my router is not blocking it eitherRun out of ideas, if anone has any more worth trying please let me know!!(PS tried the fix suggested in these forums @ http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproinstall/thread/20c89fa2-4fbc-4ed8-8737-c7612f591cbe/ but with no success ... Hi,There are a lot of things to cause the problems. You can try the methods below:1.  you can clear your cache file. The specific steps are below:Delete ListCache.datLaunch CMD and navigate to %appdata%\microsoft.CD %appdata%\microsoftDir /s ListCache.dat Decide if you want to delete the cache.Del /s ListCache.dat Restart your MSN Messenger.
2. Check your date and time setting. Is your time correct? In some case, if the time is correct, msn won’t all you to sign in.
3. Change the MSN settings.1. Open the tools and choose options.2. Choose connections and clear all HTTP and SOCKS information in it.3. Click OK.
4 Disable the Auto Tuning Networking feature on Windows 7.
1.Open Command Prompt as administrator.2.Type the following at Command Prompt and then press Enter to disable the Auto Tuning Networking feature.  netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled Try to connect to MSN Messenger. If you still cannot connect, proceed to the next step. However, before proceeding, re-enable the Auto Tuning Networking feature by running the following command at Command Prompt.netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal
If you still have some problems, please post here.

Hello all,
This evening I tried to sign in to my Windows Live messenger account but each time I did, I was kicked off. A pop up window read that I had been signed out because the version of messenger I am using does not allow for me to be signed in at two locations. This started tonight when I tried to use a MSN app. on my IPHONE...I've since removed the app., but I thought I should mention that. Anyways, to fix the problem I first changed my password but the same message popped up and I was then kicked off. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the program, the problem persists. I've scanned for malware/spyware and nothing shows up. At the moment, I have windows live messenger uninstalled, but the lame, ancient version of windows messenger is still on my computer (the problem occurs when I use this version, too). I even made a new account and added my old one on MSN and it shows that my old account is signed on...But the ~person~ isn't talking to anyone, isn't sending out any emails and they haven't even changed my password on me. I've changed my password a billion times and this keeps happening. What's going on I've had my account for FOREVER, and do not wish to get rid of it.

"We were unable to sign you into Windows Live Messenger, possibly because of a problem with your internet connection. Please try again later.

To let us try and trouble shoot the prolem click the trouble shoot button.

when i click troubleshoot i get the little green tick next to IP, Default gatewat, Hosts File, DNS, Proxy Server and Key Ports.

The only ones that dont have anything at all next to them is IE's offline setting and Wireless.

So from what i see there everything is fine, so i have no idea why its not signing in.

A:Windows Live Messenger Wont sign in!!

Hi Antony

Is Live Messenger OK now? If not ...

1) Sometimes its just a problem with the servers, not your PC. Check with others & see if they are having the same problem.
2) Of course, make sure that when you click on the "Tools" icon in your Vista IE7 toolbar that "Work Offline" doesn't have a checkmark next to it -- if it does, uncheck it.
3) If you have broadband, reset a) your broadband 'modem', and b) your router. Then reboot Vista, and try your sign-in again.
4) If you have a software firewall active, make sure that Live! Messenger is set to "always allow" (or similiar settings).
5) Virus activity can also cause such errors - so make sure to scan for malware.
6) Make sure your Vista Cryptographic Service is "Started" and is set to "Automatic". You can also try stopping & restarting the service.
7) Some users report that enabling the UPnP service can help.
8) Check in your EventViewer logs to get more details that coincide with the Live Messenger error.

There are other suggested fixes, but since the error is fairly generic & can be due to several different things: it's best to try the simplest cures first.

Hopefully you're OK already, and I've just been practicing my typing.
Best of luck

A:Windows Live Messenger Sign In Problem

Hello joshhammond,
This is one fix from MS,

To troubleshoot the problem on a Windows Vista-based computer:

1. Click Start, type control timedate.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

2. In the Date and Time Properties dialog box, confirm that the date and time settings on the computer are correct, and then click OK.

Here is another one.

MSN Messenger - ERROR 80048820 FIX

Click Start icon (Start Menu)Type "regsvr32 softpub.dll" (without the quotes)

In what will seem like a split second, literally 1/100ths of a second you should see a new window pop up as per below.

You should now be able to log into MSN.I hope one of these work, good luck and post your results.

Heres an odd one for you all.

I'm running Windows Vista Home premium and have had no problems at all. However in the past 2 weeks or so, Windows Live Messenger has developed a signing in problem.

I have Norton 360 installed and the Firewall has allowed Messenger to do what it needs to, but it still won't sign in.

I have even disabled the firewall, but to no avail.

I have uninstalled and re-installed Messenger, still no good. I check the tools settings in Messenger and it shows that it is connected via my Router's wired connection.

Today I dumped Vista, formatted my drive and did a fresh install of Vista, and fresh install of all software, still I get the same sign in troubles.
I enter my user name and then my .net password, and it just says signing in, then after 5mins, sign in failure. My friend tried her ID and .net password, still the same.

Yet I can sign into the MSNetwork and my online 360live account no problem. Any ideas?

A:Unable To Sign Into Windows Live Messenger

* The date on your computer needs to be set properly -- double click the clock and verify that the time and date are set correctly.

* If your password information is not saved, verify that you are typing it in with the correct case (uppercase or lowercase).

* Change your password at Sign In to something smaller (under 10-12 characters), then try signing in again.

* Even though you disabled your firewall, it still may be blocking Messenger -- try restarting it and see if that helps the situation. You also might try uninstalling an installed firewall, to verify that it isn't causing a problem (even if it is disabled).

* Clear your IE cache and cookies -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then click the Delete Files and when that's completed click the Delete Cookies button.

* Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check for server certificate revocation" is unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSl 2.0' and Use SSL 3.0 is checked. then click OK.

* Click Start, then Run, and enter the following:

regsvr32 softpub.dll
then click OK
and do the same for the following:
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll

- Using Pidgin (downloadable alternative, which i think connects to an alternate server to connect)

Hi, Martin7R.

First things, first, any reason why you haven't updated to the current version of Windows Live Messenger 2011? That aside, in researching your issue, I found that the following worked for others with the same issue:

- close messenger
- open Internet Explorer
- go to Tools -> Internet Options
- go to "Connections" tab
- click on "LAN settings" button
- uncheck "Automatically detect settings"
- close IE
- restart messenger

Hi,

As of yesterday, when I sign in to Windows Live Messenger, a few seconds later Messenger will stop responding. This sometimes happens before the sign-in process is complete, and sometimes several seconds after. Shortly after this, Windows Explorer stops (the Task Bar, Start Menu and any window involving file browsing/ file tree such as "Open" dialogue boxes), then any other programs which are open also stop. It's not a screen freeze, since the mouse and basic keyboard commands still work to some extent - Alt-Tab brings up the switch program box, repeating left-shift for StickyKeys makes the StickyKeys sound, though Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing. I searched for a considerable period of time both on these forums and on others but with no luck. Has anyone seen something similar?

It may be completely unrelated, but today for about 10mins any attempt to access BleepingComputer would replace the "bleepingcomputer" section of the URL with "google" bringing up either Google's homepage or an internal Google error since rest of the URL belonging to a BleepingComputer site made no sense stuck after "google.com/". This seemed to fix itself after I tried to get to BleepingComputer via a proxy (though this may have been coincidence). I would post this separately but I'm not really interested in this oddity if it doesn't relate to my first problem.

I have tried running SpyBot and AdAware but they only turned up tracking cookies. I also had an unin... Read more

So this might sound a little lame, but my msn won't sign in on the desktop. I just rebooted after having done an auto update and msn just sits there in the process of signing in (it doesn't crash, though). Works fine on the laptop and when I try signing in on the desktop while signed in on the laptop, it disconnects me on the laptop, saying that I've signed in on a different machine. Which is fine, except that it still hasn't signed in on the desktop - it's as if it's halfway in between. When I try the reverse, it signs in fine again on the laptop and on the desktop I get:

'Signing in to the Windows Live Messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

Error code: 81000323'

Going into the connection settings on messenger shows everything is connected fine (including .NET). I tried 2 different versions of messenger: 8.0.0812 and 8.0.0729 (I think). Same prob. Tried reinstalling both; tried rebooting - nothing.

Cheers,
Al

I am having a problem all of a sudden with logging into messenger and hoping you may have a few ideas on what to do.

The Error message is ERROR CODE: 81000306 your host files contains Windows Live Messenger related entries that may interfere with name resolution.

I click "repair" and asks if you want to clean the host files. Click "yes" and same process again.

I have contacted "MSN Messenger Live tech support" on two occasion and both have gotten me to do the same processes. I have followed step by step and still same problem.

These are the steps I have taken:

remove every user and password stored in your computer
remove your user credentials of the computer
delete any old files and cache that may be causing a conflict in Windows Live Messenger:

delete any old files and cache that may be causing a conflict in Windows Live Messenger:
Restart your computer.

Register the Secure Sockets Layer
register your MSXML3
Reinstall MSXML3 library
reinstall Windows Live Messenger:
restart your computer

I did all of these steps twice and still the same outcome.

Please Help???

I've been trying for a while now and I just can't sign into WLM, both 8.1 or 2008 versions, but I receive the following error message;

Error Screen 1

My Laptop is part of a network, connected directly to the router via a switch, I've not had problems before and the current problem has only recently arisen. The other computers on the switch or network don't seem to have this problem, I have tried reinstalling both the network and WLM (multiple versions) but to no avail.

I've ran WLM connectivity manager and this is the result, but I have no idea where to go from here;

Error Screen 2

The settings on the router have been checked and I am being granted full access and as far as I can see my windows settings are correct firewall wise.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As the title says I can sign in Hotmail.com but not into Windows Live Messenger.

This is what I get when I try:

"We can't sign you into Windows Live Messenger"
Signing into Windows Live Messenger failed because the service is temporareily unavailable. Please try again later.
Click Troubleshoot to try and fix this problem.
Get more information...
Error code: 80048820

Any other use can sign on with no problem.
I tried on other computers with the same result, I can sign in Hotmail.but not into Windows Live Messenger.
It is the same with any OS I try, XP, Vista and 7.

So it cannot be a computer problem. So trying the suggestions offered on the Live Messenger support page for error code: 80048820 is a waste of time.

Has anyone ever encountered this and how did you resolve it?

Thanks in advance,

Can somebody please give help?
A friend and I both have the latest MSN Live Messenger installed.
When we connect to the internet the MSN Live Messenger won't connect automatically.
The icon in the taskbar will start to spin as it does when you sign-in, but then it stops again after a couple of seconds without signing in and displays the "offline" icon.
We have to click on the MSN icon in the taskbar and click on "sign-in" before it will sign-in.
We don't get any error messages, it just won't sign-in automatically.
Both our MSN Live messengers are set to remember our user name, password and to sign-in automatically when connected to the internet.
I format my pc a few days ago and did a clean install, but I still get this problem.
Any ideas?

We both have Windows XP with SP2.
Thanx and all help is appreciated.

I have two Dell Computers (XPS 8100 & 8300) both are running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. Windows Live Messenger 2011 won't sign in automatically at start-up even when the boxes are checked for it to save the info and do so.
I can sign in manually, but I'd like wlm to sign in automatically when I start up my computer each morning like it used to on all my former computers that ran older versions of the windows os. I've only started having this problem when I bought new computers running Windows 7.
I tried running the live repair, that didn't help. I've tried uninstall and reinstall. That didn't help either.

Im geting this when i try to link Live ID to windows account. How do i remove that "devices" ? went over my account&profile twice and didnt find anything...

A:Windows Live Sign-in assistant error

I'm getting the same error.

It would seem there's a limit to the number of computers (or unique OS installations) that can be linked to an ID...

Only problem is, once you reinstall, you wouldn't have access to the "computer" to kill the link.

Any information on a possible solution would be welcome.

As the title says, I could not make Messenger log in automatically. I found a thread on this forum, Live Messenger doesn't remember my sign in info after restart., but since that thread is closed I thought I'd post my findings in a new thread.

I checked my registry as per the suggestions but there were nothing wrong. I re-installed, but it made no difference. I even created a new account, but for some reason (that I will not pursue!) I could not get Messenger to autostart at all on that account..? Go figure... But anyways, upon manual start, it _did_ remember me! Yay! Ok, so I copied the shortcut to the Autostart folder in the start menu. But, to my surprise, then it did _not_ remember me again...

It seems that my computer is too fast! Or the network establishing too slow... This also confirmed back on my original account; when I removed the Messenger option to Autostart, a manual start always remembers me!

I run Windows 7 and Messenger 2011 on a Phenom II 840, but I have a "slow" 8 mbit ADSL internet connection. Maybe the connection speed isn't relevant, but the routers ability to deliver an IP-address and establish the connection?

Anyways, I wish Messenger wouldn't time out so quickly! Now I will need to find a way to autostart a program with a delay...

BTW, a small tip for those on Windows 7: if you don't like having Messenger occupying the task bar, set it's compatibility setting to Vista and it will move right back to the system tray again! Go to &... Read more

For some reason I am getting this error code 80048831 when I attempt to use hotmail.

Each time I sign into windows the MSN homepage appears as normal but when I attempt to sign in it takes me to get a new live id.

Your thoughts please

A:Windows Live Sign In error code 80048831

Based on the error code you have provided, it seems that the password you are entering is an invalid one. May be it was hacked… or if your password has expired cannot be confirmed. I suggest you to contact the support team of Windows Live immediately since it might be something very serious.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Recently I started getting an error message on every boot: "There was a problem that caused parts of the windows live id sign-in assistant to be disabled." I have tried to install the correct version 6.5 for Windows 7 according to this Microsoft website. (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?i...) When I try to install this version, I get an error message telling me that a newer version is already installed. I have tried to uninstall the newer version (maybe incorrect version 7.0 for XP ) but there is absolutely no entry in the Control Panel's "Programs and Features" for me to uninstall the Microsoft windows live id sign-in assistant. I have checked with my Revo Uninstaller Pro software and likewise there is no entry to remove the assistant. I have checked services.msc and again that service does not show up as being there. I ran MicrosoftFixit.ProgramInstallUninstall.RNP.Run which screwed things up so that I had to reinstall Windows Live Mail but am still unable to install version 6.5 "because of the newer version" being present. I am not a newbie but I am stumped. Can someone please help me? Thank you.

I uninstalled ALL windows essentials, rebooted, and then was able to install the correct version 6.5 of sign-in assistant as noted by Microsoft. I then reinstalled all of windows essentials 2012 and rebooted. I am back now to the original error message: "There was a problem that caused parts of the windows live id sign-in assistant to be disabled." I will live with the error message each time I reboot as long as my mail is working correctly!
