No sound in flash files

Q: No sound in flash files

I don't get any sound when I open flash files on my Windows 98(1st edition) IBM system. Example: http://www.brainpop.com I see the animation, but no sound. My sound card works fine--I get sound from RealPlayer files, Quicktime files, and Windows Media files. Anybody have any ideas...short of reformatting?

Preferred Solution: No sound in flash files

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have no sound for flash files. Found that I should have msacm32.drv installed in my Windows system32 directory. Hardware config says I have that directory, but cannot find it with regedit. msacm32.drv is not installed on my machine as far as I can tell.

I've followed all of Adobe's suggestions for getting sound with no success. Flash video plays just fine.

hi, this is my first post so bear with me. I am experiencing what looks to be a common problem with lack of sound on start up and system sounds also when trying to view flash files from You Tube and other such sites. I know a little about computers and have tried many things including many of the possible answers on other threads, all to no avail. I am running Windows XP 2002 service pack 2, Using SoundMAX integrated digital audio through 5.1 speaker system, have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flash player with the latest version, All volume controls are turned up and not muted. I have no problems playing sound files with Itunes, Windows media player, mp3 files, dvds, cds and even Quicktime files when on the internet. When i access the Sounds and audio device Properties i cannot even preview the events sounds when set to windows default sound scheme. in the audio Tab my default choice is Soundmax Digital Audio for sound playback, and also for sound recording, with MIDI music playback default device set to Microsoft GS Waveable SW Synth. In the Hardware Tab it says the Soundmax device is working properly. Which i confirm by doing a sound test with the Soundmax control panel. I have also tried a system restore to when i knew the sound was working but it still has not helped. Please any help would be appreciated as i have been at this for a couple of days now.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Both laptops OS : Win 7

As above. I bought a new laptop recently and stupidly went to surf the net for a short period without any AntiVirus protection.

Soonafter, I inserted some flash drives to transfer stuff to my new laptop, but I realised that all the files in my flash drives are hidden and replaced by shortcuts.

I suspected a virus and inserted my flash drive back to my old laptop, which AVG immediately detected as a Dorkbot Backdoor. I recovered all my files in the flash drives already.

I installed and ran AVG full scan on my new laptop, it removed mostly Dorkbot Backdoors , trojans and 1 corrupted executable.

However, I tried accessing most Antivirus sites such as Norton to test, but I can't connect to it.

I think the virus is still present somewhere.

Any help is appreciated. =)

A:Dorkbot Virus infection. It converts all files in flash drive to hidden files.

Update :

I've decided to reformat my new laptop since it is new anyway. It isn't a painful process yet.

Will update if the traces of the virus is still present.

Any files I move to external drives are converted to windows system files, hidden, and have a shortcut created.  Anything in a folder is not touched.  It doesn't seem to reinfect other computers that it is subsequently plugged into.  Tried Malware Bytes and it did not remove the problem.  Running Windows 8.1.  Saw a suggestion of using Combofix on another forum, not Windows 8.1 Compatible. DSS is not compatible either it tells me.

A:Files moves to flash drive converted to system files and hidden

Hello,it's important that you don't open one of these shortcuts from now on. This leads to a re-infection.Please run a FRST scan to begin with:Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.(If you are not sure which version (32-/64-bit) applies to your system, download and try to start both of them as just the right one will run.)Start FRST with administator privileges.Make sure the option Addition.txt is checked and press the Scan button. When finished, FRST will produce two logs (FRST.txt and Addition.txt) in the same directory the tool was run from. Please copy and paste these logs in your next reply.

Try to uninstall Flash Player completely, then reinstall. Use this procedure:

download the FP uninstaller from http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157 (save to disk)
download the offline ActiveX installer http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax .exe (save to disk)
close all browser windows, then run the uninstaller, followed by the installer
You can check if the installation was successful at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

A:No Sound On Flash?

Hmm not sure, but generally if it's a 'Flash' problem you won't be able to see the video either!

So your saying that your off-line stuff works fine?

OK, so your hardware must be fine.

Did you recently update Flash?

If your running IE8 there is a common fault with Flash Player when you update, it basically completely craps out.

In fact Flash Player auto updates do not work full stop! - Why doesn't Adobe fix this!

But anyway, I digress.

To install the latest Flash you must uninstall your current version first, for that you need adobe's Flash Uninstaller, which is here.

Then you need to reinstall flash from here.

If your running IE8 this isn't so easy. The uninstall is fine, but the reinstall will kill IE8.

You need to download Flash Player for IE8 with another browser (eg. chrome - which is better then IE8 anyway).

To do this open your browser - any browser except IE8 and go to the flash install page (which I put a link to above), but instead of just hitting 'download', select the option that says 'Different operating system or browser?', then select your OS and IE, then run it. Flash and IE8 will be reunited in all there working glory.

Hi -

Perform a Windows System Restore -
START | rstrui - choose a restore point prior to the beginning of the trouble.

Be sure that your Windows Updates are up to date. Check your device drivers for updates - go to your manufacturer's web site and look for "driver downloads" in the support area.

Downloading and installing Adobe Flash Player has no negative affect on sound.

Check the settings in Volume Control in the taskbar and in Sounds And Audio Devices in the Control Panel.

If your computer has a sound device that places an entry in the Control Panel(such as Realtek Audio Manager), check the settings there too.

I had some kind of bug on my PC lately... Last week i started getting messages saying my pc was infected with malware and then it would automatically take me to the website of some software they were trying to sell to fix the problem.

So i went through the usual routine of hijackthis, spybot search & destroy, etc. and i seem to have succeeded in removing all the junk, but im still left with a slight problem now.

I ocassionaly will have explorer need to close itself and reopen, and i have no sound in youtube, myspace, etc. or anything else that uses Flash.
I googled and found that some people seemed to be having the same problem but i have yet to find a solution. I have tried reinstalling flash, using other browsers, made sure the WaveMapper registry entries were ok, and now i have run out of ideas. Everything left in the hijack this log is stuff that should be there.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Edit: I forgot to mention that my sound is working fine in everything else.

A:Had malware, now no sound in flash.

My daughter recently had this problem after she got a virus. Unfortunately, I cannot retrace her steps as she tried to remove the virus herself (She ha a propensity for saying "yes" without reading). when she finally called me she had sound in all applications except sites using Flash, like youtube. After trying everything that you've already mentioned, I finally figured out that all permissions to the registry key, HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows_NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32 were disabled. After re-enabling the permissions to this key, I uninstalled and re-installed the audio drivers and Adobe Flash 10. This fixed the problem.

Forgive me if I'm posting in the incorrect place. The lack of flash audio has me completely stumped. Two weeks ago I had the Vista Recovery virus on my computer. I found this site through a search engine. I used rkill and mbam, which worked great. Mbam found somewhere around 70 problems. Suddenly I had random audio popping up, but I just turned down the speakers and ignored it. I went on a long weekend with my family and my parents stayed at my house for a staycation with our pool. My mother called because my computer was yet again attacked by Vista Recovery. I did rkill and mbam again. Mbam didn't find as many problems this time. After that, no more random audio and suddenly no audio on flash. I have audio with iTunes and I have audio with media player if it's a video loaded through my camcorder. If I post the same video on-line, I can't access audio with it. Also, in the last few days while trying to figure out this audio problem my searches have starting being redirected. I would appreciate any help.

Hello all!

I have two little issues that I am driving myself crazy trying to fix...first off, I am an avid fan of the World Rally Championship, and I watch the videos on their website. Generally, I use Firefox, and I have the latest version of Flash installed...however, the videos have not loaded correctly for me in many months, nor can I get them to load on my netbook, my brother's netbook, my brother's desktop, or my mother's desktop in Firefox...is it just something I have installed on all of these computers (the WRC's site says VLC can cause issues with it's Firefox plugin, but I don't have VLC's Firefox plugin installed, just VLC itself...?), or do videos not play for anybody else when they check the site out?

( World Rally Championship - TV if somebody doesn't mind seeing if they work for them in Firefox...)

My other browser-related problem is with Internet Explorer 8. Because the videos don't work on WRC.com in Firefox, I usually watch them in IE8 with no problems...however, when I went to try it today, there is no sound for ANYTHING in IE8...Youtube, Ads, flash games, MP3s playing through the Quicktime plugin - NOTHING. Streaming videos play fine, but I cannot hear the audio. My system volume is NOT muted. IE8 isn't muted in Win7's volume mixer, nothing else is muted and ALL of my other audio works fine in all other programs. If I look in the volume mixer when playing anything with sound in IE8, I can see the green VU bar moving behind the volume slider for the IE8... Read more

Sorry if this is the wrong section to post this question to.

I bought access to certain online tutorials. These tutorials are flash tutorials with sound.

You don't download them, you view them online. You buy access to them for a month at a time.

My problem is , due to unforeseen circumstances, I won't be able to go through all of the tutorials within the amount of time allotted to me and I really don;t have the money to keep buying access to the tutorials. It would be great if I could record these tutorials so that I can view and study them at my own leisure.

I have found programs that record the screen but it will not record the sound. Therefore, I would have to record the sound with a separate program and play both the recorded video and audio when I want to watch them. This is kind of inconvenient.

So my question is, is there a program that will allow me to record these tutorials as they play on my screen as well s record their sound?

I prefer something that is free (who doesn't) but I would be willing to pay for the program if the price is reasonable.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have an ION IO2 LP2 Flash Record Player, which enables customers to play records at 33 and 45 rpm via a hi-fi or a computer and transfer the records to a USB stick among other options.

I wish to play records via my computer, but I have a dilemma:

Although my records spin fine on the turntable, when I connect the USB lead to the back of my computer (I currently have Windows Vista if relevant), there is no sound.

What is preventing the sound?, and how do I achieve sound?

I'd thought that sound would be instant, once the lead was connected, but I am very keen to find a solution so I can make the most of my record deck and recording options.

Also, is Audacity easy to set up?
(there are 2 options - the eZ Player, which is good but has least Scratch Filter options, and Audacity)

I look forward to your feedback.

A:Ion LP2 flash record player - no sound

Seeking help

Can anyone assist me?

Thinking further, as I'm not a technical expert, is the cause of No Sound due to a setting in my Computer?

I imagine it's not a fault in the record player, but either way, I can't get any sound out of the record player.

If whatever's blocking the sound is in the computer, which settings do I need to look for to achieve sound?, and/or

Is it because I don't yet have Audacity set up that I'm getting no sound?

I'm very keen to use my record player.

Although record players will vary and I'm not sure if any of you have an ION record player, perhaps there are other record players where Sound has to be activated a specific way where some of you have had the same muted sound on your record players of a different brand or different model or ION.

Please help asap.

I found a statement somewhere that the latest Flash came with the volume set at the lowest possible level? I can't figure out how to get to the Flash settings to adjust it. All the other volumes, including the one on YouTube are at normal levels, and nothing is muted. I've tried Chrome and Firefox, no sound in either browser. Flash installs as a plugin on both Chrome and FF.

Help with this would be much appreciated.

Win 7, Chrome browser.

A:Solved: No sound since Flash update

Open the volume control icon in the tray. Click on Mixer. Make sure the sound is not on mute for your browsers.

Hello again. I think this is the right forum for this. Anyways, I'm working on my brother's pc. He currently has no sound. It used to have an error message (I can't remember what it was) but that was resolved by repairing his version of Windows XP with the recovery disc. Now it still has no sound, but the error message is gone. I checked the easy stuff: Made sure volume was turned up, not muted, speakers plugged in, drivers updated, etc. I think the drivers are up to date and correct. I guess the first question I should ask is, how can I determine if it's a software or a hardware issue? Also, any ideas as to what I can try?

Also, the flash drive on his computer is messed up. When you insert a flash drive into the computer, it causes Windows to reboot... and Windows will not ever boot up (just keeps resetting) until one removes the flash drive (which is making it hard to back up his files). Honestly, I have no idea what could be causing this problem.

Specs that may be useful:
Computer is custom made by local guy in town
OS: Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2
Motherboard: ASUS P5GC-MX/133
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 @ 2.40 GHz
Sound - ATI AA01

Any other specs that may be useful? Also if I'm only allowed one question, the sound issue is more important. Thanks in advance for any help I receive.

I can't remember if I posted this fix already so if I have, I appologize and moderators please delete one of them.

Anyway, for all you people that have found that flash videos will play on websites but doesn't have sound. I and quite a few others have found this regestry edit to work and fix the problem. I have tried to make the instructions as basic as possible as I know some people don't like editing the regestry but here goes

1. Go to start menu run and enter REGEDIT and press resturn
2. This will start the regestry editor. Goto the file menu and select export and save the regestry as a file, make sure you have Export Range / All selected at the bottom of the save file window. This will save the whole regestry as a file, remember where you save the file... You have now backed up the regestry. Now close the regestry editor
3. Copy all the following BOLD text starting from Windows Regestry Editor Verion 5.00 by highlighting it, right clicking and selecting copy

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]

A few days ago my Flash and HTML5 audio stopped working, but the video shows up fine. I tried all of the browser I could think of (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, IE, I even made my own) and I got the same problem. Sound does work, though, in other programs like iTunes and Skype. When I tried Silverlight it worked fine. Anybody know how to fix it?

A:No sound in Flash or HTML5, works in everything else

There have been a lot of problems with Flash. Reinstall Flash and see if that fixes that problem.

Or since this is a recent problem, you could try a System Restore back to a date when everything worked. System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.
