I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Greetings:
I'm having an issue restoring my backed up files using Quicken 2004. I was forced to do a system restore. Before doing so, I backed up my Quicken files to a back up drive. The backed up file set contains four files, with extensions that contain "21, 21QEL, 21QPH, 21QSD.
After reinstalling the program following my reinstall of Windows 7, I clicked on "restore backed up files". But when the menu box opens it's empty, as though they're not being recognized. I made sure the "read only" box is unchecked in the file properties.
Needless to say, I'm in a world of *&%^ with my wife who totally depends on this program for all our finances and would nothing short of a disaster should I not get these files back where they belong. Funny thing is, when I purchased this new computer 2 years ago and installed the program then, the files backed up without issue.
Thank you,
Steve

Very pleased to say that Quicken 2004 release2 works perfectly in Windows 10. I had to get the CDDVD player working which took some searching. Apparently Windows 10 omits the DVD player/writer in the upgrade and there is a workaround for this in regedit:
Press the key combination Windows + R and type regedit in the Run dialog box.
Now navigate in the left panel to the folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ atapi.
Right click on the folder atapi and select New-> Key.
Name the new folder "Controller0".
Click the folder you created "Controller0" and right-click on the white space on the right side.
Then select New> DWORD Value.
Name this "EnumDevice1".
Right click on "EnumDevice1" and select Modify.
Enter "1" and click OK.
Then close all windows and restart the PC.

I hope all those out there that still use this useful accounting program will benefit from this and ignore a lot of bad advice claiming that you will need a VM, you won't. If you have a disc run it, it should be fine if you apply the above instruction.
Good luck all, I have just successfully updated my year end accounts using Quicken 2004 in Windows 10.

I use Quicken 2004 for managing investments by creating a security list. I use the Enter Transaction dialogue to update transactions. The security names in my Security List show in the Security Name field all except one. I can't understand why this one security name doesn't display so I can choose transactions for that security. Appreciate any help on how to resolve this missing security name.

Quicken 2004 or the monitor?

A friend who has a 4-year-old Dell Dimension running Windows 98SE with 128MG and has a Dell Sony Trinitron 21 inch monitor.

We just installed Quicken 2004 and when he clicks on something in that program the screen doesn't completely refresh and seems to hang up. I don't know if he waited long enough if it would clear up. But at this point he closes Quicken and then his desktop is lighter (sometimes). If he clicks and blank space the desktop clears up.

It's not happening in any other program.

I recently upgraded to Quicken 2004 from Quicken 2000 - which I had upgraded to from earlier versions. I had no other reason to upgrade except that Intuit stopped the on line downloading for 2000. Quicken 2004 is terrible for many reasons that I won't go into. However, there is one aspect of this program that, although is probably just the program itself, could be a compatibility isssue with my computer or video drivers or something. The issue is that all the screens in 2004 are stark white with black text. The only color is the banner at the top of the screen. Past versions of Quicken had optional color schemes and one was always in use. I can't be sure if there should be more color that I'm not seeing or this is the way it is.
Does anyone have Quicken 2004 who can tell me?

A:Trouble with quicken 2004 vs windows 7

Hi,First, I noticed that on the quicken 2004 was not compatible with windows 7 but the latest quicken 2010 does. See http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Search.aspx?type=Software&s=quicken%202004&page=2You can consider switch to the latest version. However, if you would stay quicken 2004, try the following as some people resolved the issue by the following steps:1. Uninsatll quicken 20042. Reinstall it in compatibility modeSet the compatibility options on the installation program "start.exe" to "windows xp sp3" and "run as administrator". After install, do the same for the "qw.exe"

I wished I had stayed with Quicken 2003, This version 2004 is nothing but problems. Now it will not accept new securities. It seems to be in some sort of a loop which keeps asking me for the stock symbol (i give it), it goes online to download the stock to add to the securities list, acts as if it has done this but then when I click "done", it asks for the symbol again. The new stock never appears in the Security master list even though it supposedly was added!!!. Please help. I have reloaded the software twice and it still does the same thing.

Is there any way I can convert my 2004 file back so it will be accepted by the Quicken 2003 program???

I am attempting to write the QIF files to the cd using Roxio CD maker.

The files seem to get written and then when i test the CD Quicken cant find files to open on the CD.

Is it something to do with QIF?

HELP?

Time sensitive right now, please respond ASAP

A:Quicken 2004 backup to cd issues

When you copy a file to a CD the file attribute gets changed to "read only".
You need to copy the file back on to the hard drive, then right-click on the file, and in the properties section look for the words "read only" with a box that has a checkmark on it. Click on the box to remove the checkmark. Then you should be able to get Quicken to access the file.

I suggest you take the CD out before trying it so Quicken doesn't attempt to still access the CD. In Quicken when you go to File, Import, you will have to redirect the appropriate boxes to find the directory where you put the file on the hard drive. ( I assume because you say it is a QIF file that is what you are trying to do.)

Hope this helps.

I have a Windows 7 professional (64-bit) computer. I have been using Quicken Basic 2004 on my Windows XP (SP3) system. I would like to load and run it on my Win 7 machine since it does the job I need it to. I have searched the internet and read many ways to load and run Quicken on the Win 7 system including this link:

http://www.sevenforums.com/software/261702-steps-i-took-run-quicken-2004-windows7-professional.html

I am interested in doing it without using XP mode. I am having trouble installing the software. Here's what happens:

1. Create a folder on Drive C and copy the entire contents of my factory Quicken disk into the folder.

2. The way my Quicken disk is organized is as follows:
a. The root directory has install.exe (among other files)
b. There is a subfolder called "DISK1". In that subfolder is Qsetup.exe (dated 6/21/2003) and Setup.exe (dated 8/8/2002). I'm not sure the dates are significant.

3. The instructions that came with my CD state that if the installation does not start immediately (as in start when the CD is inserted), then to run the install.exe file.

4. With information on many website links, I right clicked on install.exe (in the folder on the C drive) and chose the "Compatibility" tab, I then selected "Run the program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 3)" and also "Run this program as an administrator".

A:Need help loading Quicken Basic 2004 on Windows 7 Pro (64-bit)

You have a 64 bit operating system.

As It states, it is not compatible with your system type. Meaning it is a 32bit application. Usually, 32 bit programs work fine on 64 bit platforms. x64 is backward compatible (usually) But some older software for whatever reason does not work sometimes. You have tried all the usual methods, so I don't think success will be in your favor.

Unfortunately, the only solution I can think of is to use xp mode, or update quicken. It costs about $20-30 to upgrade, why not do it?

Windows XP - Quicken 2004 Deluxe
Unable to perform any File Operations - want to archive data, it keeps coming back with error message "file not copied" I have tried saving to different locations, renaming file, etc with no luck - on checking Intuit site (useless as that is) suggested I validate my data, which I did, Data is good.

Not only that but one attempt ended up in renaming my existing file to the file name I had created for the Archive File and now Quicken is using this as my data. My data is still all there, no file exists on computer with the archive file names.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thought maybe I should upgrade to 2005 but who knows whether that will fix it. Also when I upgraded last time to 2004 had severe problems with the upgrade.

BACKGROUND:

I have posted this because I found that many people had provided information that either just didn't work (for me) or which effectively says "you can't run Quicken 2004 under Windows 7". You can - both in XP compatibility mode and natively!

This post relates specifically to 'Quicken 2004 Release2 CD 2004'. I am using this version because Intuit stopped selling Quicken in the UK in that year. The Release 2 variant was a 'free' disc that Quicken sent to their customers (well those who had recently paid for Quicken 2004 anyway) along with the letter that said they were withdrawing support from the UK. This CD doesn't require a licence key or any other form of authorisation in order to use it although it does nag you to register for a while (don't bother).

I MUST EMPHASISE that I do not use Quicken to download from Financial Institutions - partly because I found the process error prone and partly because Intuit withdrew this facility about 3 years after my purchase - presumably to encourage users to upgrade - despite the fact that it wasn't possible to upgrade in the UK anyway! Therefore I can't say whether it would work or not; I suspect not.

When I try installing Quicken it gets around 90% of the way through and crashes the machine. The screen goes blue and shows a full page of error info which disappears too quickly to allow me to read what it says and the machine reboots.

It has copied over a bunch of files by that time but apparently hasn't entered Quicken into the Windows registry yet (since it doesn't show up in Add/Remove programs).

I tried booting without any services running, but same result. Any idea what might be conflicting here?

When Intuit contacted me to upgrade to the 2004 version, I told them I didn't want the ads. They assured me that the ads (and there are many) could be turned off. What they failed to mention is that there is nothing in the help menu, or in their online tech support to show you how to turn them off.
You get NO free tech support for the product, so calling Intuit to ask would cost $80. I think the whole thing stinks!

Hi Folks, This is my first posting and I hope it hasn't already been discussed. To begin with I will freely admit that I am among the "cyber-challenged". I have Norton Password Manger 2004 and I was wondering if ANYONE knows how to print out the information contained within. I'm talking about websites with their corresponding User ID's and Password. I loved using this product originally but my computer is getting on in years and want to print this information out. Dummy me never wrote down the 250+ passwords that I have loaded in there. That information has to be SOMEWHERE! If NPM 2004 can access it then why can't I? Thank you for any help given. SHOE

A:Norton Password Manager 2004

Hi Shoe and welcome to BC. Apologies that no one has responded til now.First I would advise against printing out your passwords if you have any that are sensitive at all--it defeats the purpose of having a manager that locks your passwords away and thus keeps them safe. Such password managers are like bank vaults--what you want to do is like taking your valuables outside the vault just before closing the vault door. That's why most password managers don't allow the printing out of their database. I don't use Norton so I can't be specific, but the closest most come to a printout is an export of the database file, for if you want to import your data into another program. If you have a File menu, click it and see if there is an export option. Exports are usually in the form of a .csv file that can be opened in Notepad. Such a file would look funny (lots of commas), but would have your info there if you think no one in your home environment would steal the info. I still would advise against a printout tho.It sounds like what you really want, and more importantly should, do is backup your data so it doesn't get lost. You shouldn't use a password manager if you aren't going to back it up--because it's easy to lock yourself out of it and there is no way to recover when that happens.Check your help file--it may automatically make backups and you should know where those are kept. Then use a backup program such as Cobian or GFI Backup to copy those to a CD/DVD or other drive, i... Read more

Ok, here is what happened.

After I got on the internet this morning, windows started going crazy with pop ups saying that I had a infection and it stated opening up my internet windows randomly and prompting me to use Vista scan and other programs to correct the problem. I downloaded and used Avast! Now all the infections are gone but "Virus Alert!" is still in the system tray. Task manager still don't work (it says it has been disabled by the administrator, but im on the only account on my computer), and All programs is missing form my start menu along with everything on the right side of the start menu except for Set Program Access. Any help resolving this problem would be great

A:Virus Alert!, Task Manager etc. Help!

Hi Lynn2009

Thank you for your patience. I will be helping you deal with the issues raised in your log from this point onwards

Before we start jumping into things, here is a quick basic note which I mention to everyone. The fix which I have provided for you is for this computer only, it should not be used on any other computer. Each fix is tailor made for the specific task in hand. If for some reason you have system restore disabled, then please re-enable it before proceeding, an infected restore is better than none. Please read through the fix first and set enough time aside to complete the task in one session. If there is anything you feel needs clarification then please ask - do not guess! Thanks.

If this is a computer from a work place then please advise your IT department of the concerning issues before commencing past this point.

Please follow these directions in the order they are set out for you.

Plese scan with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Hello. I run Windows Xp service pack 2 currently. I also regularly update and scan my computer with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SuperAntiSpyware. The only thing that SuperAntiSpyware may find are Adware.Tracking Cookies. Other than that nothing else turns up. Since removing the Vundo, I have not been able to turn on my firewall. Windows Security Alerts tells me at start up that the firewall is turned off. When I go to recommendations and then enable now, Windows says it is unable to turn it on and that I should turn it on from the control panel. When attempting to turn it on from the control panel, it is is unchangeable. An attachment shows how the firewall control panel appears. After clicking out of that alert, Windows Security Alerts then says that Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition is turned off. I check Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition and it appears to be running fine. It may be working since a few times since the Vundo it has caught some incoming threats to the computer. I am wondering what steps I should take to turn on the firewall and how to check if Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition is working okay or not. Thank you.

A:Not able to turn on firewall and Windows Security Alert says SymantecAntivirus is off

Try THIS.

Or, click on Start > Run > services.msc

Scroll down to Windows Firewall and make sure it's Started and Automatic.

Try this fix: Firewall On

Save the reg file to your desktop. Double-click on it to merge it to the registry.

Reboot.

Hi, i know that avgamsvr.exe is the AVG7 Alert Manager Server but i want to know what exactly it does and if is really essential for the AVG 7 to work properly.

Why i am asking this?Simply because i want to save as much resources i can but of course without have to completely turn off the AVG7 background scanning & services.I already set to manual the AVG7 Update Service (avgupsvc.exe) because i only update all my programs my manually i dont like auto-update plus i save some more resources with this service set to manual.

So to my question what exactly the AVG7 Alert Manager Server does?

Thanks for any replies.

A:Avg7 Alert Manager Server Service

From everything I've read, this process is necessary for AVG to work properly and disabling it will cause AVG to malfunction.

There does not appear to be official information concerning the specifics of what it does; however, a couple posters in some discussion forums have said that it alerts the user to the presence of a virus and that it is responsible for updating the program.

I have been running the old 6.5 version of Quicken and have just downloaded the free trial version of Quicken 2009. Problem is that I now can't restore my previously save file and to make matters worse, the old version of Quicken has now been uninstalled.

I have uninstalled the 2009 trial and tried to reinstall the old 6.5 but it now appears the file has been converted from a .qif to a .qdf.

Any suggestions on what I need to do?

I have been unable to open my backup files in Quicken 2012 for a whole month after purchasing Quicken 2012 to replace Quicken 2008. I'm going nuts writing checks manually. My PC is 12 years old and uses Windows XP professional, Version 2002, service pack 3. My computer is Intel (R), Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2 80GHz, 2.79 GHz, 1.98 GB of RAM.

I have spoken several times to Intuit (via India) with no results. I was told there may be a "conflict". Recently I installed PC-Matic and I wonder if that could be causing my problem.

Can someone help me?

A:Quicken 2008 to Quicken 2012 ?

Hey espelund3, Welcome to TSG. I normally say I hope you find the answer your looking for here but not this time. I haven't seen many Quicken issues resolved on TSG.

I helped a collegue several years ago figure out some Enterprise level Quicken issues and it wasn't easy. After we developed a solution we new the customer wouldn't be able to replicate the feat going forward. We found a 3rd party software that did the trick. There was a trial version that did the trick and we talked the company into buying the 3rd party software and it solved thier issues.

Quicken/Intuit has terrible support, I don't see how they get away with it. I'm sorry I can't think of the name of the 3rd party software right now. They had great support and it was only a couple hundred dollars. Helped us work thru Quicken issues that were really realated to there software. I will post the name later if/when I come up with it.

I recommend googling. It will take some time in that tons of people have problems with Quicken and you have to find one with a solution that matches yours.

Good Luck.
