Q: HP Pavilion X2 12-b020nr detachable dock drains battery whil...

Hello everyone, New to forums here but have been a regular reader ? My Pavilion X2 12-b020nr detachable laptop has been having a battery drain issue while shutdown over the past few months, and I've finally isolated it to the detachable dock. It'll usually drain 3-4%/day while shutdown and keyboard dock attached. The battery does not drain (across 24h) while shutdown/detached or while the charger is plugged in. I'd like to find out if anyone knows how to disable power to the dock while shutdown.I promise that I am shutting down the computer and not hibernating, sleeping, etc. Relevant details:Windows 10 64-bitBIOS F-16 (and unable to find any options in BIOS)Fast boot IS disabledHP Battery utility and diagnostics shows normal battery (other diagnostics normal as well) Any thoughts? I've probed around the Device Manager and BIOS, but to no avail.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello @blue0318, Thank you for posting on the HP Forums! I have read your post and understand that your HP Pavilion x2 - 12-b020nr is not booting. I want to help you resolve this issue. When the Caps lock button flashes for one second, does it continue in a cycle or does the notebook shut off on it's own?If the notebook shuts off on it's on, does it turn itself back on and off in a cycle? Please begin with a hard reset. Once that is compelte, please follow this troubleshooting document: HP Notebook PCs - Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset I look forward to your reply! Hi, I am searching for a compatible external battery for my Pavilion x2 12. However, I am discouraged by this thread :http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/threads/hps-usb-c-charger-lock-crisis-explained.69523/ Looks like HP locked down the USB type-C charging port which only accept HP charger. However, there are times when I am not near a power outlet and on the go. I need an external battery. This also prevented users from passing though power when using USB docks, which is bad. It seems that there is no external battery available for Pavilion x2 12, am I right? Or is there any BIOS setting that allow me to turn off the charging DRM?

I have a HP Pavilion X2 Product Number F5W70UA#ABA. I have been having trouble since I bought this just a few short months ago. The battery drains within an hour or 2 whenever I put the machine to sleep (close the lid, put in sleep mode, etc.). I have updated the BIOS and all the latest drivers. It helped ensure I could wake up the machine, but the battery keeps draining and I am at my wits end. I have also gone through many forum postings on this issue and have run the HP Battery Test as well as checked all the power management settings and they appear to be set up properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. - Jim

A:HP Pavilion X2 Battery Drains when in Sleep Mode

Hi DontLoveWindows, From the information that you have given me, it is showing that you have 2 anti-virus softwares installed. Avast and Norton, that are continuously running when the printer is in sleep mode, which would be draining your power. It also shows that your printer has missing or misconfigured drivers which could be using power as well. Here is an HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers download for your printer. I suggest that you Disable your startup software. To do this: Right click or touch and hold the bottom left corner of the screen and select Run.Type msconfig in the Run box, and then press Enter. The MSconfig window opens. If the User Account Control window opens with the message, Windows needs your permission to continue, click or tap Continue to close the window. If Normal Startup is currently selected, follow these steps:Select Selective Startup, and then clear the Load Startup Items check box.Click or tap the Services tab, and then select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box at the bottom of the screen.Click or tap Disable All.If Selective Startup is currently selected, follow these steps:Click or tap the Services tab, and then select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box at the bottom of the screen.Make a list of the items that are selected. You will need this list to reset your computer startup items later.Click or tap Disable All.Click or tap Apply.Click or tap OK. A new window displays.Click or tap Res... Read more

I have a HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC (Product Number F6C70PA#ABG), and since I have upgraded to Windows 10 (current version 10.0.14393) last year I have had nothing but trouble with it. 1) First, when I use the shutdown option in the power menu, the notebook will not turn off; the screen goes black but the fans continue to run, and the Wireless Antenna light goes orange but does not turn off. The power button in the top left also stays lit. The only way to turn the device off properly is to hold the power button down for 5 seconds. 2) But even when I turn the power off by holding down the power button, I have recently discovered that the notebook is still draining power. If it is turned off, and the AC power removed, the battery is completely drained when I next come to try and turn it on. This is despite the fans not running while the power is turned off in this fashion. 3) Also recently, when booted up the notebook takes an excessively long time. After approximately 2-3 minutes from power off, the notebook will display the coastal scene. I press the up key or click my mouse to bring up the login box, but the login box takes another 2-3 minutes to appear. After inputting my password, it takes approximately another 2-3 minutes to finish booting the desktop.  I note that, in an attempt to follow other tech support advice to allow the notebook to shutdown properly (to solve problem 1 above), I have previously turned off the fast boot option.  However, it... I have a HP Pavilion 13 X2 Model F0A05AVI have two batteries in the unit, one in the tablet section and one in the keyboard/dock section. Recently, I have noticed the batteries do not drain equally (not sure if they should) but when the total battery level hits 50%, the keyboard stops working along with anything else attached to the dock like the touch pad for example. The tablet portion works fine. When I check the battery level it shows the dock/keyboard (battery #1) at 0% or 1% and the tablet battery (Battery #2) at 95-100% or so.  Is there anyway to get the batteries to discharge together and or get the dock/keyboard to take power from the battery in the tablet?

Hello. I have a 3yr old Toshiba Satellite laptop that I use every day, on avg. 8 hrs per day for school. The battery used to last about 2.5 hours without needing charging. In the past couple weeks, it only seems to last about an hour before needing to be charged.

Even more troublesome is its action when the charge is gone. I have set the power settings to pop up a notification message at 22% battery level and take no action, then at 10% battery level, pop up another message THEN go in to hibernate. However, last week it would give me only about 20 seconds' notice of a critical battery level, then it would hibernate. It wouldn't give me any notice before the critical level.

Now, it has taken to just hibernating, with no warning notice whatsoever. I could keep it plugged in all the time, but my concern is there's something more at issue that will get worse over time. I don't need any crashes at finals time.

Any suggestions? Could the battery need replacing? Thanks.

This cant be right.4) Open some webpages no touch screen?.5)  I Keep on loosing SD card, even during playing music, suddenly stops and no SD. Pop it out and it makes unmounts noise, pop it back in all is fine for a short time like 2 songs then stops again saying file can not be found. I have just bought this lkaptop and the hardware is nice, but I do not want to run Windows. Simple, I thought, as it's a PC, I'll just install Ubuntu. Well, the boot from USB is UEFI and that is a bit of a pain to set up, and I can't get it to work. The Ubuntu 14 install disk I burnt is an EFI boot CD and it simply fails to boot. Using the F9 option I get aBoot device failed message in white text on a blue screen. When I try to boot through the boot menus I get a missing file at \ubuntu\winboot\. I have just created a Windows recovery disk and that seems to boot fine. It looks like the BIOS/UEFI is set up to only allow Windows to boot. I've bought a USB DVD drive and failed to boot from that, also two memory sticks and a HDD. So, questions, before I put the laptop in the bin: 1. Has anyone else got Linux onto this device and if so what image and procedure did you use to get the install to work? 2 Is there a way to get legacy mode booting set up in the BIOS (The BIOS mentions legacy support in the screens but its not there).  Andrew

A:Linux on HP Pavilion x2 detachable PC 10

It seems that the hp x2 has a 32 bit uefi. So you'll need a 32bit uefi boot loader. Most distros I've seen just ship the 64 bit bootloader. There's a guy at debian who is trying to support this kind of thing - He's working on a netinst image for deb8. The current image he's published so far boots, but I can't get networking to work. Here's his blog (other good stuff there):http://blog.einval.com/debian/CDs Here's the deb image:http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/efi-development/jessie-upload3.Hth /markus

Is it normal for a Thinkpad T470 to drain battery after it has been shut down completely? I first observed this after not using the notebook for about a week. After switching it back on, the external battery had lost more than 10% charge, while the internal battery's value hadn't changed. Curiously, while using the notebook, this behavior is reversed, i.e. the internal battery is discharged first. Things I tried so far: Disabled Wake-on-LANDisabled USB chargeDisabled Thunderbolt deviceDisabled the fingerprint readerDisabled Fast BootDisabled all wake events and timersChanged power planPerformed a full shutdown via shutdown -sUpdated BIOS and Embedded Controller to latest version availableResetting Windows to factory defaults I also ejected the external battery and disabled the internal battery before shutting down to make sure that they don't discharge by themselves. However, no drain occurred under this condition. Effectively, none of these options have helped. The external battery still loses approximately 2% charge every 24 hours.

A:Battery life drains quickly!

Most likely your battery might not bre charging fully due to the A/C adaptor plug may be loose and or the connection on your board is loose (common problem with laptops). Another thought is that over a period of time laptop batteries get weaker due to their nature. It may be best to take your computer to the shop and let an expert technician look into this. Really doesn't cost an awful lot...If you are handy you may be able to check this out yourself but sometimes laptop cases are a little difficult to open (without damaging)...I know from experience (cracked my Sony Vaio case when trying to attempt fixing the very same issue)...

Hey Im the almost happy owner of and Y700-17ISK, but Im having issues with the battery. If im watching a movie, or playing a game, meaning the laptop is on for ~2h or so with heavy usage, charger is plugged in. At some point it will shutdown unexpected, I can then power it right back up and now it will run on the AC adaptor. It does remember where i was in the game or movie, so its not a complete shutdown. This time however, Im sitting at a battery on 0% power, and it says not charging. Uninstalling the battery drivers from hardware management, have not helped. So im stuck with 2 problems: - Laptop drains battery to 0%, then shuts off -> turn it on, and it runs on battery.- My battery is now at 0% and wont charge. What do I do?

My laptops AC adapator however wont work on his Y70, it doesnt even recognize it as plugged in. This got me wondering....I bought a demo laptop from the store showroom, at a great price though! But it came without the box, only laptop + charger. It came with a 3.25A adaptor, his Y70 came with a 6.75A adaptor.Im sitting here thinking, how can you run an i7 + 960M and charge a battery on ~65W ?

Hello!  I just  purchased my LENOVO ideapad 310, a month ago. During my observation on its battery since I got it, its discharging time takes atmost 1 hour and 45 mins while its charging time takes atmost 4 hours. Given the fact that I am not using any application or software, it's not even connected to internet, just leaving it open, it drains so easy. I know its battery is below average but given the fact that its charging time consumes more compare to discharging, i am beginning to wonder if its still normal.  Your answer will be deeply appreciated thank you!

Hello All, I have been having some trouble with my battery on my new laptop (which I got less than 6 months ago). It is an HP Envy 15t touchscreen, and the battery doesn't last for more than about 2 hours. I've tried some basic fixes, like decreasing brightness, but that hasn't really helped. I've also noticed that the fan runs pretty loudly for long periods of time (I just timed it, for example, and it was making loud noises for 15-20 minutes straight). Finally, recently the laptop will freeze for a couple of minutes (it will usually freeze when the fan starts running). Like I said, this is a relatively new laptop, and I don't use it all that much (maybe a couple hours of browsing a day, and a few hours of streaming over the course of a week) so I'm not sure why its having this problem. When I first got the laptop, I was getting about 6 hours without charge. Now, for example, it dropped from 100% to 84% in about a 20 minute span. Any help on the matter would be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Battery drains fast on new laptop

Measure, measure, measure. If the fan is speeding-up, it's because the motherboard has detected "excessive" temperatures, and has increased the fan-speed to try to cool the computer. What causes those temperatures?  Basically, the CPU is working "hard", and generating extra heat. Use the Windows "Task Manager" and/or "Process Monitor" to see which tasks are consuming the CPU.

Hi, I've been having some trouble with my HP Spectre x360 battery draining while powered off (completely off, not just sleep mode or hibernate), but I couldn't find much online about it. It's been happening for a while, but I only recently paid attention enough to realize that almost 10% of the battery drains in about 12 hours while off. I've tried running the battery component test on the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, and that passed, saying the battery doesn't need to be calibrated. I know batteries usually drain while the pc/phone is powered off, but from what I've found it shouldn't be this much. Thanks for taking the time to read and respond.

Hello StefHatesHP, Welcome to the HP Forums! It would help to know which product and operating system you are using. For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? To see which version of Windows you are using click here: Which Windows operating system am I running? I would also suggest reading through these documents in full for an explination of Li-Ion batteries and some steps you can take to increase the life of your battery: HP Notebook PCs - Understanding Lithium-Ion and Smart Battery TechnologyImproving Battery Performance (Windows 8, 7, Vista) I am also curious if you have tried a second battery. It is possible for there to be a power leak in your battery or on the motherboard. We would have to test a second battery to be sure of this.I look forward to your reply!

I recently purchaded HP 250 G5 laptop, small problem is that it drains power from the battery when turned off. I use the laptop only about once a week. Last week it was charged to 100% when I turned it off, turned it on today and it's down to 87%. I am shutting down rather than hibernating or sleeping. I have turned OFF "fast start", so I know it's not this causing the battery drain. Does anyone have any ideas why its doing this? How to stop it?

I have owned a Spectre x2 12 myself and then I purchased one for my wife. I also recommended this system to my uncle who bought one. I must say that I have been happy with the performance and build quality of these units. However, there is one glaring issue with them that HP seems to be totally ignoring and in my opinion it is a deal breaker. I have since sold mine and am looking to do the same with my wife's system. I have recommended to my Uncle that he should do the same thing. What is this one glaring problem? The system discharges the battery even when the system is completely turned off. We have tried all the recommended things on all the HP and 3rd party forums to fix the issue but nothing has worked. We have tried everything from turning off fast boot and USB charging in Bios, to updating the Bios and all the drivers, to making sure no WiFi dongles are connected to the device when turned off, and even separating the keyboard from the device when it is turned off. Nothing has solved the problem. On one forum for an HP spectre x360 there was a fix offered which allowed the user to update the M.2 hard drive bios which fixed the problem the same problem for those systems but no such fix is offered by HP for the Spectre x2 12. I suspect that this system along with many other HP systems are suffering from the same issue of the M.2 not completely shutting down when the device is turned off which allows it to slowly discharge the battery. Imagine the frust... Read more

hi,
my dell inspiron i3 battery still drains when I shut down the machine using the Power "shut down" option in windows 10.
after i'm done using the laptop and turn it off using the shut down option. it either I see a red light indicating low battery or the machine won't turn On at all because it has run out of battery and I need to connect the charger

A:battery still drains after shutting down the laptop

Disable fast boot:
Once that's done, Windows 10 will shut down rather than hibernate.
If that doesn't solve the issue, it may be time for a new battery.

Although I have my notebook plugged in, the battery drains down completely and shuts off. The battery then charges while it's off and I start over again with the same process. I have used the original power supply as well as a working universal power supply. Neither one charges the battery while the unit is on.  I tried finding the Windows 10 battery companion by typing battery in the search bar. It isn't there. I do not have airplane mode turned on. What could be wrong? The battery now seems to drain more rapidly than before.
