Unable to install August 2016 Windows 10 upgrade

Q: Unable to install August 2016 Windows 10 upgrade

Recently received this notebook from my daughter and her fiance fro my birthday, and am greatly impressed. Wanted to download/install August 2016 Windows 10 upgrade, but "Settings" search said computer is up to date. Went on Microsoft site and downloaded update, but it will not install. I get a message that the program needs 20gb to install, and only 2gb are free. SSD is only 32gb to begin with. Is there a separate download for notebooks, or will I not be able to install update unless I uninstall programs?

Preferred Solution: Unable to install August 2016 Windows 10 upgrade

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My 13-A013CL laptop (8 gb memory, 500 GB SSD) refuses to upgrade to Windows Anniversary Edition.  All methods in posting have no effect:

Tried Media Creation with Windows Defender turned off, network off and also tried on-no luck.  Am part of the WIndows Insider Preview and will not upgrade past OS Build 10586.494.  No upgrades since 7/13. All other HP desktops upgraded fine including Surface 3.  Guess I'll just hang in there until a viable fix is released.

Also tried the above with the original SATA drive with no luck!!

maddie_z7 Some of the tech sites are reporting more failures than successes with this latest Update, which basically is the installation of a new version of the OS and migration of stuff from the old version to the new. I ran into problems like this on my desktop, and it's been running Win10 since the very early days of the Insider program -- all without any problems, including update after update. The consensus on the community forums is that this is a conflict with Windows Defender updates being delivered at the same time as the Anniversary Update. The solution (which I have used successfully) is the following: Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool - Windows Help1) Use this link to download the Windows Media Creation Tool: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win102) Using that tool, create a USB stick or DVD of the version of Win10 that matches what you have installed3) Disconnect your PC from the Internet -- either by disconnecting the networking cable, or by disabling WiFi -- this is Important!4) Insert the Win10 media you created, find the "drive", right-click on the setup.exe program -- to start the Update5) Sit back and wait -- this can easily take a half hour or more6) Your PC will restart at least once during the UpdateThis is basically running something known as a Repair-Install -- which retains all your data and applications.Good Luck

Good morning everyone,

I am once again having to ask for help here because I've been unable to install the Patch Tuesday updates released July 12th. (I received the "Updates available" notification yesterday afternoon, July 13th). WU just keeps searching endlessly, and after 2 hours, I restarted the computer to stop the process. (It could not be stopped in Task Manager).

(All day yesterday, July 13th, my CPU kept hovering in the 50% - 60% usage range both off-line and on-line. The only way I could get it to return to normal was what I did in Item # 2 shown below).

Also, NO error codes are being seen either.

Things I have tried thus far:

1. Ran full scans, including for rootkits with my ESET Smart Security, MBAM Premier, and SAS programs. NO issues found.

2. Opened Control Panel > Windows Updates, and changed the existing setting (i.e. Notify me of updates, but let me decide to download and install) to "Never check for updates". I then restarted the computer.

3. Ran the sfc /scannow command. NO issues reported.

4. Ran the SURT tool. The dialog box opened indicating it was initializing and said something about looking for updates. When I checked the computer several hours later, the dialog box said something like, "Installation complete". I closed the box.
However, none of the 10 Important updates (in this month's updates) were installed when I checked the WU list of installed updates.

5. Ran the Microsoft Fix-it t... Read more

My computer that had been running the Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium since early 2009 had become an appliance:  It worked every time it was turned on and it handled every network transaction that came through my DSL line.  I had set the "Windows
Update" program to check for updates periodically, every month or so, and then to inform me when ever any update was available.  I could tell when the "Windows Update" program had been checking for updates, as the CPU usage went up to 100
percent with the used memory amount "sawtoothed" up and down for about 15 to 20 minutes.   The "Windows Update" then would tell me about the available updates and it would ask whether it should load any of those.

This  worked until about January 2016.  At that time, the "Windows Update" CPU usage would stay at 100 percent for more than an hour.  After that, it gradually got worse:  Around June 2016, it held the CPU at 100 percent usage
for about 14 hours.  In August 2016, the CPU is held at 100 percent usage by the "Windows Update" for more than 45 hours with no end in sight.  It did find some updates to load, but it would not load them as the CPU had no time to do that.

"Windows Update" is currently holding the CPU at 100 percent load  this every time the machine is booted up until all of the updates are loaded and it can not do this as the C... Read more

Conference brings hackers to the valley

LAS VEGAS

Hackers have descended upon Las Vegas, and you might want to be extra cautious with your personal information this weekend. The Black Hat convention is in town. Experts say, with so many hackers in town, something as simple as joining a Wi-Fi connection could put you at risk.

It only takes a second to get hacked.

"Anyone who is really good at what they do want to show and demonstrate that," said Net Effect CEO Jeff Grace.

This weekend, hundreds of hackers, and the ones looking to stop those with malicious intent, will be in one room.

"Black Hat is an annual convention of security professionals,? Grace said. ?There are also people who are a little bit more on the mischievous side, as well as on the cybercrime side."

It?s no secret what the mischievous ones are here to do. They have plenty of tricks up their sleeves.

"The worst thing is that they can corrupt your data, they can encrypt it and hold you ransom for it,? said Net Effect Service Manager Chris Wrightnour.

Hackers are also ready to play you.

"They put up their own hot spots that say ?Free Hotel wireless.? They drop USB keys on the ground. You plug it in your computer to see what?s on it, then infect your computer,? Wrightnour said.

"You can debate the ethical, the ethics behind it, but as a technology profession, I have to admire and respect their intelligence and ingenuity," Grace said.

Hello,  Yesterday I updated my X200 using the lenovo update centre program. I updated the BIOS, Intel management engine (sol) and intel management interface as well as a few drivers such as trackpoint driver. The BIOS seemed to flash fine and laptop was running ok. I then decided to unistall both intel management engine and interface. After each uninstall it asked me to reboot, I rebooted after the second unistall. The laptop was docked, lid closed and connected to vga monitor, mains and some peripherals through docking station. Now the laptop won't boot, it powers on with led, charge light is on when connected but just a black screen, Bluetooth led is also on. Tried removing battery and discharging cmos battery by holding power button, this didn't work. Is the cmos battery dead? Any ideas on how to fix this?  Thanks for reading Neil

A:How shall users upgrade to free Windows 10 after July 29, 2016?

If you upgraded and activated Win10 before the free offer expires on 29 July 2016, you can re-install any time. You'll need Win10 install media, which you can download from MS.
See: Windows 10 ISO Download

If you did NOT upgrade and activate before the deadline, you will have to buy a Full Packaged Product (FPP), also known as Retail.

Hi

As the title says I can't install that update at all in my desktop, the rest of them were installed successfully. I've tried three times to end with the same we couldn't complete the updates undoing changes error and Windows Update shows it as a failed with error code 800F0922.

It however was installed in my (old) netbook without any hiccups, What could it be? The only difference my desktop has Start8 while my netbook doesn't but I don't think it's the cause, but I would try to uninstall it. Thank you

PD I've read it is caused by System partition missing, my desktop doesn't have it, but my netbook neither and it installed fine.

I have used Bitdefender, Avast, Kaspersky ( about 3 years ago), I haven't used Norton and Trend Micro.

A:KIS 2016 vs NIS 2016 vs BIS 2016 vs Avast IS 2016 vs Trend Micro IS 2016

Out of all these, and your prerequisites,I would go with Kaspersky!

Good evening everyone,

My issue is with today's 'Patch Tuesday' Windows Updates.

[System: Win7 Home Premium SP1 x64]. Computer is a standalone, not on any network, and used only by me.

Description of problem:

There were something like 14 - 16 important updates in today's batch. Most of them did NOT install. (Please see attached screenshots showing this + my current WU settings, at the bottom of this post).
NO error codes are being displayed. WU just keeps saying it is downloading updates. The 'download progress' remains at "0%" the entire time, however.

Resolutions attempted thus far:

1. Ran CCleaner, then tried to update again. No success.
2. Restarted computer 3 times, then attempted to update, without success.
3. UNCHECKED all updates except for 3, and tried updating just those 3.
Problem remains.
4. On the 3rd attempt, after waiting 15 minutes, I cancelled the download/installation.
5. Ran scans with ESET Smart Security (v9), MBAM Premier, and SAS. No issues were found.

My question: Is there an explanation for, & a resolution to, this problem?

The only potential explanation I could think of is the Windows Update servers are too busy???
(Don't recall having encountered this type of problem before).

Thank you for your for time and any help!

I can honestly say I have some knowledge when it comes to computers and usually I solve it when something is wrong, but I can't figure this one out. I don't know what to do or what's wrong basically. A few days ago I was supposed to be updating a few of the programs I have, the first being Windows Live Messenger. It wasn't working so I thought they wanted us to go to the new one. I go to do that and it was installing until I got this: "Could not access network location %APPDATA%\.

Please close all other programs, and then try again. It looks like another program is preventing the installer from working. hr:0x80070643"

So I go to un-install the old one (which I don't it even did) and I tried again, and again the same thing. I've also tried un-installing it from Smarty Un-installer 2009, did it and tried to install it again, and that didn't even work. I haven't tried again since.

That same day I tried updating iTunes. That failed. Safari didn't update neither did iTunes, but the iPhone Configuration Utility thing did (I just noticed). I tried going the website and downloading from there, I thought it was going to install, but it didn't give a message saying it could not access %APPDATA%\. This one didn't un-install, because iTunes is still accessable on the other accounts.

I'm completing a scan now for any viruses (I don't think any will show up), I also tried installing Malwarebytes to do a scan for that (said the same thing: couldn't access %APP... Read more

I have a feeling this is bios/uefi related
Got a sabertooth z77 with two ssd on raid 0 (intel) another hard drive for backups (Regular sata) and another storage card (pciexpress sas highpoint 2720, with raid 5)
Windows 10 doesnt seem to like this.
Even booting the dvd itself its a drag and hr wont recognize the raid 0 not even with drivers (driver load will cause a watchdog blue screen)
Windows 7 and 8 dont mind. At all.
I feel like the csm thingy might have something to do.
Bios is latest. Sas raid is for storage only. Ill search for the manual of the board as the printed one doesnt have the options i got on the screen

A:Unable to clean install, only upgrade

I had some advancements. I upgraded the bios from my sas card and configured it to disable "int 13 and ebd" something. I managed to install windows 8 and now im upgrading to win10. I hope that works
I had an error which a quick google search recomended to disconnect the network cable

Hello,I recently purchased a new 2016 model Spectre x360 (PN X7V20UA). It came running Windows 10 1511, and I would like it to be running 1607 (Anniversary Update). However, the update to 1607 is not being offered inside of Windows Update. I've installed everything that was available, include today's November patch releases, to no avail. Windows Update shows "Your device is up to date." This link http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/10/hps-new-spectre-x360-is-probably-the-best-pc-laptop-around/ says that the 1607 update is being blocked on this model temporarily due to driver compatability issues. I tried to get confirmation from HP twitter support about if this was true or not, but wasn't able to get much help. Can someone please confim this?

Hello
I have Vista Home Premium 32bit Upgrade, and I ordered the 64bit version.
Received it today and booted from the 64 bit version.

Selected the language and did "install now" but I cant get past the next window.
It says "Where do you want to install Windows".
I have the partition that 32bit is installed on, but the next button is grayed out and wont let me proceed.
At the bottom it says "To use the product key you entered, start the installation on a computer that is running a geniune version of windows".

I activated Vista 32bit and it's a retail version. Why is it telling me this?
I tried to install from Vista but entering the disk but it tells me I cant install from the operating system and should boot from the disk.

Or do I have to download WGA for it to install?

Help?

A:Unable to install Vista64 from 32bit upgrade?

Actually I think I found out maybe?
You cant go from an Upgrade Vista 32bit to Vista 64?
I'd have to reinstall my retail XP Home -> Vista 64 for it to work?
Or do the work around of installing Vista 64 w/o the Key, and then reinstalling Vista 64 over the top again...with the key this time?

Hi.

I tried to install this month's updates today and all except one was successful - the malicious removal tool (KB890830).

I told Windows Update to search again, and it didn't find it.

I went to Microsoft's website and downloaded it to the computer. I ran it, but it seems like it didn't do anything.

I would like to mention that earlier this month, I received a duplicate download of the August version of the malicious removal tool and didn't realize the duplicate installed until it was too late.

Did anyone else experience this?

Any help appreciated.

Now! ESET has just released their newest security suite: ESET Smart Security 9 (2016 Edition). These products are on the top of security suites which are produced by giants on security companies. Most of them released 2016 editions of their products. I want to compare on their newest products with new features (such as on ESET: Banking Protection, Bitdefender: Ransomware Protection and new Firewall, etc...) and some enhanced features.

And now, which is your choose for your security? Please let me know your opinion!

A:Battle: Kaspersky IS 2016 vs ESET Smart Security 2016 vs Bitdefender IS 2016 vs Emsisoft IS 10

its hard choice choose between Eset,Kaspersky and Emsisoft.
in fact i never test Eset 2016, but i tested kaspersky and Emsisoft, Kaspersky 2016 really go lighter than Emsisoft(now i am Emsisoft useres)
by your budget and your interest u can choose Emsisoft or kaspersky.

Ok, I will try and give the low down on whats going on without being too windy.

Last Oct, I had a hard drive take a crap on me, long story short, I have a somewhat fresh install of my OS Windows 7 pro. After I finished the installation and the updating of the OS, I moved on to installing all of my old software and files to my new fresh installation. This is where I noticed that I was having issues. I am stuck with IE8. When I try to update to either IE10 or IE11, I get major issues.

When I completed the upgrade to IE11(all websites are now warning me that im at risk and outdated) I noticed a very slow loadup time and other programs were not opening. When I would open IE11, it would just sit there and think and basically not allow me to do anything. As soon as I click on something, boom, IE shows up as not responding and I have to force it closed. After I force it closed, I try to open the Event Viewer and get an error stating that it cant be started, same thing, not responding. Then I went into services, that too was not working and not responding. I quickly uninstalled the update and reverted my changes and after a reboot, the old trusted and true IE8 was back and all was good with the event viewer and services.

This is where it gets strange, I stopped messing with IE as I was getting frustrated, then I moved on to trying to install the GoPro Studio and Steam. Both of these programs installed without errors and then when I try to open the program nothing happens. The pro... Read more

Hey everyone,

My girlfriend has had her computer for well over a year now. Recently it's been crashing alot, mostly with the bluescreen, but on occasion just freezing.
Errorcode on bluescreen is: ***STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)

Recently it has been impossible to enter windows, so we figured it'd be best to re-install windows. All we have is a windows XP CD, which is fine.

But when I put in the CD, it crashes with the same blue screen, I googled the errorcode and I found out that alot of people has had simmilar issues, and fixed it by going into BIOS and changing SATA mode from AHCI to IDE, but i cant find anything in BIOS that allows me to do so..

Here's a couple of the links I found on google, with suggestions on how to fix it.

I suggest starting all troubleshooting with the following diagnostic tests (in your case, please start with the Hard Drive diagnostics). They'll save you a lot of time and heartache if there is a hardware failure, and you'll have the disks on hand in case you need them in the future:

H/W Diagnostics:
Please start by running these bootable hardware diagnostics:
Memory Diagnostics (read the details at the link)
HD Diagnostic (read the details at the link) - Test ALL of the hard drives.

Quick question for someone that has already applied the August updates. Are they still being offered so that you can see what each update is or are they now just one cumulative update. I don't want to update Windows Media Player on my Windows 7 because my DRM files will not play with newly updated Media Player on my Windows 10 Computer.
Thanks

Note : I finally got them to load. Doesn't look like any for Media Player.
