Possibility I've been hacked / I'm being monitored in some way

Q: Possibility I've been hacked / I'm being monitored in some way

You'll have to be patient with me here because my computer knowledge is minimal and I am incapable of performing the most rudimentary tasks.

I always have the latest free versions of Zonealarm and Avast, and both show nothing suspicious. I have taken online tests that scan my ports and these have given me the result that I have nothing to worry about.

Yesterday my computer was making a lot of 'vr-vm...vr-vm...vr-vm' noises whenever I was online so I did a Netstat -an to check what connections were established. The ports on my computer were all safe ones, but in my panic and computer retardation I read into the external addresses I was connected to, and there were ones starting with '69' and '87', and googling those numbers came up with ports that were traditionally used by attackers.

Since these were external addresses, is it a mere coincidence that some of the addresses started with these numbers? Do I have anything to worry about? Help.

Preferred Solution: Possibility I've been hacked / I'm being monitored in some way

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Possibility I've been hacked / I'm being monitored in some way

I dont understand your post: you said you googled for the ip addresses and came up with port numbers?

I sometimes go to http://cqcounter.com/whois/ and type in ip addresses to see where they are located.

Last time I asked for a program to monitor internet activity to make sure I was not being monitored.

Well, I did not find any outgoing connection for a log.

I have a few questions:
1. Is there a more efficient way to check for being monitored?
2. I have a router, so I am connected to my ISP through it, is it possible for a program to monitor connections that are sent and received through the router?

for example, I install a program, and it covertly scans and logs my internet connections and then sends it to a recipient, or source.

A:Being monitored!

You can always be monitored. Not only is it unlikely that your computer itself has a program on it that monitors you, unless you are a minor with restrictions on their internet, the government, your ISP, and all the other powers that be will be monitoring you from either your router, your modem, or as the authority goes higher, they will just monitor data streams and sort them by IP address.

Hello! I have noticed lately that what looks like a DOS window pops up and immediately disappears while I'm browsing the internet at home. I use my work laptop at home connected to a wireless network. I do not log in to my VPN connection so I was wondering if I WAS being monitored by employer, is it possible via any connection to the internet?I wanted to make sure that it was friendly monitoring by my employer and not spyware. Hi, I'm a new member, if I'm writing to wrong section, please move it. And my native language is not English, please let me know if I can't describe something thoroughly.

Here is my problem: I think my PC is being monitored. Though its just a doubt I still want to be sure. I read a lot of things about monitoring on web, but I couldn't get an exact answer. I think there are a few ways to monitor a PC.

I read that if there is trojans or malwares etc. in my computer, my passwords can be stolen. How can i be sure if there is anything like this in my computer?

I don't think I'm being watched with some kinda device(not sure if its called device) that is attached to my computer. Because I think I'd notice that. But if there is a device, how can I know that?

Thats kinda complicated for me to explain, please tell me if you don't understand what I'm saying . There is a router in my house and 4-5 laptops are connected to it. I mean, no computer is directly connected to internet cable, we connect from the same network, we share the connection. Sorry I don't know what that is called in English, perhaps "wireless". So, is it possible to watch any of the laptops because we share the same connection? I read that the admin computer can watch the other computers. But couldn't get what that means. Please explain to me . And which one is the admin computer since there arent any laptops which are directly connected to router/c... Read more

I noticed recently, that randomly, a window will pop up in the middle of my screen and disappear immediately. it's so fast that i can't see what's on it, and i've only caught it a few times. it's normal size and grey, with some kind of white text bar. i figured it might be a pop up, but normal pop ups stay there, and system notices do too. i don't think i should worry too much, but then i wondered if it could be from a monitoring device, since my dad would do that sort of thing, where it takes like screen shots of the page or something? what do.. well, knowledgeable, people think?

Every now and then my McAfee Security System pops up and tells me that my computer may be at risk and that my security system needs attention. Turns out, it's my Real-Time Scanning which keeps turning itself off.
At the same time my Windows Security tells me that my Ant-Virus is not monitored. When I turn on my Real-Time Scanning everything is fine, for a while.
This happened before and eventually Windows crashed altogether and wouldn't re-boot or switch on. I had to have Windows re-installed but that hasn't, it seemed, solved the problem. So what do I do ? I'm no expert.

Hey guys.
There is very probably someone monitoring my computer. I know for certain that there it was, but I dont know if this person is STILL monitoring. First it was by remote access, accessing my pc by homegroup or something like that, I found out that by seeing another PC with a shared offline folder, but now I believe this person has installed something on my computer that is sending pictures or logs of what I'm doing.
My anti-spywares doesnt seem to found anything, I reinstalled Windows but I'm still suspicious and have strong reasons to believe that this person is still monitoring.
What can I do?

Hi! I've been living with this person for around six months now. There is a router in our room and I own it, but we split the internet bill. For the past few months he has been dropping hints about what I search in the internet and even about what I chat with my friends in facebook quite often. He also works in IT. Any help on how to remove and track software like this would be very helpful. Thanks!

Hello, We will be helping you with your problems. Please be patient while we assist you. Some points for you to keep in mind while we are helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of us:  Please do NOT run, install or uninstall any programs,  unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post. NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Bu... This also is evident in PDF loading that hjangs and will sometimes not proceed to complaetion for a while...several minutes. I have cleared the cache, I ran SFC and checked to sart-up folder. This issue just cropped up a week or so ago. Thank you for any help.

Hello from Belgium !

Now I feel like I can not work privately anymore on my computer at home. This is not a nice feeling.

Thanks for any help someone here could give me.

A:Can what I write and visit REALLY be monitored?

Hi Rosalie,I'm not one of the site experts but I'll give you my opinion to start off:Yes it is possible if your "friend" has installed a keystroke logger on your system or is hacking into your system while you are online. You need not only Anti-virus but also a firewall and anti-spyware software installed and running. See the site tutorial on Internet safety here:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/Sim...rnet-tut82.htmlAlso I think your McAfee is out of date, arn't they up to version 9 now? Anyway make sure it updates online or replace it with a current product.Regards from 'not nearly rainy enough' Australia.

I have my Yahoo email account set-up to ask to re-log for password verification every two weeks.

Thus, I have only been asked in the past to re-log into my Yahoo email account, no matter what I do and who I email every two weeks.

This has changed recently. I have been emailing my 12 local township government officials complaints about the local police department in the recent past.

Starting about three weeks ago, EVERY time I email the commissioners I am prompted right after to re-log into my Yahoo email account with my password when this is only supposed to happen every two weeks, it has in the past happened only every two weeks, it does not happen when I email anyone else, and it only happens when I email my local government.

Any thoughts on this? My concern is that this might be some evidence that the local government is monitoring my Yahoo email account.

And, I have always had a VERY strong password that uses multiple different types of characters, caps, etc.

Please give me some time to look over your computer's log(s).
Please take note of the following:In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer.
Also, even if things appear to be running better, there is no guarantee that everything is finished. Please continue to check this forum post in order to ensure we get your system completely clean. We do not want to clean you part-way up, only to have the system re-infect itself. :)
If you do not understand any step(s) provided, please do not hesitate to ask before continuing. I would much rather clarify instructions or explain them differently than have something important broken.
Finally, please reply using the button in the lower left hand corner of your screen.

I have reason to believe that my browser activity is viewed by others.  In particular, private information I view on facebook.  I'm careful and did not accidentally install anything, but I also have reason to believe my house was broken into recently, and I believe it's possible someone installed something on my computer to monitor my activity.  I often leave my computer running and unlocked when I leave for work.  I recently removed my computer HD and took it to a trusted friend and computer expert.  He scanned with Kapersky and looked around; he didn't find any smoking guns but said there was some suspicious looking stuff.  He requested I put the HD back in my machine and use HijackThis.
My neighbor watches my house and has a spare; they also have a kid.  I suspect the kid got the spare key and accessed my house, or made a copy and provided it to someone else.  It's a small town, so for someone I work with to find out about my neighbor and their kid isn't a big stretch.  I've recently changed all my locks and, strangely, this neighbor has become very "sick" and everytime I try to see or visit them they don't want to talk.  I'm certainly not giving them a new key.
A group of about 5 people I work with would reference things I do I facebook.  I am not FB friends with these people, and it was strange but I dismissed it as coincidence.  However one day I reviewed a 7 year old private FB message... Read more

This applies for WMP 9 to WMP 11, but not 12. I could search that key for all monitored folders. Does WMP 12 have monitored folder locations anywhere, like in the registry?

Based on comparing my upload speed between my computers, I think someone could possibly have the ability to monitor and hijack my PC. I have done internet speed tests from numerous websites on PC1(suspect), PC2, and PC1 in safe mode. I have tried switching ethernet cables between PC1 and PC2.
The result always seem to be:
PC1 - 50 mbps download, 10 mbps upload
PC2 - 50 mbps download, 50 mbps upload
PC1 in Safemode - 50 mbps download, 50 mbps upload, (Which made it even more suspicious to me)
I did not have any peer-to-peer applications running during the speed tests. Both PC1 and PC2 are connected to a gigabit switch, which connects to my router. I have windows 7 for my OS. Please help me figure out what's going on.
Edit: Nevermind this. Figured out that one of the default applications that came with my motherboard, Killer Network, was limiting my upload speed on all applications. Good to know! Please lock or delete this thread.

Hello all.
How can I understand my Windows PC monitored by others via Local network or remote network? Is an Antivirus enough? Can I use any command to find illegal activities?

Thank you.

I had a computer with a root kit on it and then I got rid of the computer. I just recently got a new computer and when I'm on certain forums such as Topix and I type it is delayed, slow and sluggish and the bottom indicator showing the webpage keeps flickering ever so often and its like the page refreshes or something really fast every so many seconds. When I go to these sites from someone elses computer or from work I don't have this problem at work, its just at home and someone told me that I am being monitored. Is there a way that someone as accessed my system on one or two sites?

A:Being monitored [moved to General Security from VTS]

I need to add that when I run netstat -b with no broswers running I get 2 TCP Local Addresses and both say TIME_WAIT. In the Foreign address one says iw-in-f190:http and the other says Systemax2-PC:49869.

IF YOU think you are not being analysed while browsing websites, it could be time to reconsider.

A creepy new website called clickclickclick has been developed to demonstrate how our online behaviour is continuously measured.
The website ? which is not harmful to your computer ? contains nothing but a white screen and a large green button.
From the minute you visit the website, it begins detailing your actions on the screen in real-time.
The site also encourages users to turn on their audio, which offers the even more disturbing experience of having an English voice comment about your behaviour.

I don't want to bother with tracing every new installation, but I want to do it with media programs that tend to appropriate to themselves a lot of extension defaults and with programs that make huge numbers of additions to the registry and file system, such as a new AV I'm about to install.

I am not inclined to use a tracing log for uninstalling just blindly. I have Revo Pro, and I used it to trace an installation. But I checked back, and all I've got is a ".ruel" file. I could not find any way of opening and reading that file. I didn't use it for uninstalling the program because I can't blindly trust it won't uninstall any of the wrong things.

In this situation I am very concerned about not removing things on my system unrelated to the installation, so I would rather make selective manual use of an installation log rather than doing an automated uninstall that I'm not able to preview.

I'm most interested in the registry changes, so I wouldn't disdain a program that looks only at them.

Hello I would like to install a text expander called PhraseExpress.

PhraseExpress text prediction feature watches out for repetitive text patterns and offers to auto-complete such phrases. But I am hesitating to install it to the potential risk that my passwords become exposed.

It is a well known program and would probably okay. But is there anyone who can reassure me, and are there any precautions I can take?

A:How can I see if a TextExpander monitored/remembers password fields?

Hi and Welcome to SevenForums,

I don't use this software myself but here is some info that may help you.

The software testimonials suggests that Kaspersky use it - Awards and Testimonials
If this is true i would expect it to be secure.

You can also take a look at the manual here - PhraseExpress v10 Documentation

It states:

Password input is not recorded if the password doesn't contain a space or punctuation mark.

Hello, Bleeping computer community. You can call me Joe. Earlier this week I got a call from some IT specialists. They informed me  that my computer has been attacked on a daily bases for almost a year now. Unfortunately, as I am a young student; I'm broke, so their services were useless to me. I tried all the top malware removal software but the hackers disable the scripts of the software making it ineffective. I know im hacked for sure because I've located multiple csrss.exe files, in places that it shouldn't be. Ive run multiple tests on the command line (power shell) and it brings up foreign connection logs. Long story short, I need help--BAD! I've followed all the directions on posting a topic. If anyone out there in this forum is willing to help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!!

I have some domain controllers on branch offices, that has 2 interface cards, as 1 interface is linked to a backup device, for this example, lets call them Network and Backup.
I have specifically defined in the config of the ATA LGW that it should only capture traffic from Network card, but whenever the backup solution starts it will generate 50-60% traffic load on Backup card, and ATA LGW then reports more traffic then it can
handle and drops some traffic.
The Network card is basically idle with nothing much to do.. CPU is average 2% and memory load is 40%, but 10Gb available still.
When backup job finishes, the Health status goes back to normal.
Bug somewhere?

Hi all

I had to reset my t p link router TL WR1043ND, which is connected to a t p link modem TD 8717. Since then there is no security at all on the wi fi connection. I'm not paranoid but I would like a password at least. I have gone into and no where but no where is there a wireless tab so I can activate wep.

I have hooked the computer up with an Ethernet cable as I made the original changes with my tablet but this was not successful

The attachment shows the user interface screen.

Any help gratefully received.

Hey guys, so I did something super stupid. My hard drive self destructed and had to get a new one. So instead of installing windows xp full version like I should have (I was out of it that day ) I installed a windows 7 upgrade version. Now of course when I tried to authenticate it wouldn't let me, hitting cancel after realizing what I had done it proceeded to install this very very basic version of windows 7 on the computer. I found my xp full version cd but can't downgrade because there was no previous version of windows installed and hence no windows.old file I can use. Can't format either as this is the only harddrive on my comp. What are my options? and please don't make me spend more money on the full version of windows

A:Win 7 to XP but with no window.old possibility
