Increase Dedicated Graphics Memory

Q: Increase Dedicated Graphics Memory

So I have a little issue. I started playing GTA V on PC today and I can not even play in 1920x1080 due to too low VRAM. I checked the graphics info on Windows and the Total available graphics memory is 4800mb. However, only 1024mb is in dedicated memory. It would be safe to increase to like 1070-1100mb, right? However, I can not find any settings to change this in my BIOS. I have a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 motherboard. Is there any way to change this? Would so want to change this. Btw, my GPU is an ATI Radeon HD 5850 and RAM is 8GB DDR3.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Increase Dedicated Graphics Memory

No, you can`t change it.

Not sure why you`re having problems with the game.

Maybe it`s time for a better card.

Hey :). I'm coming from a Lenovo machine (which I returned due to build defects).
In the Lenovo BIOS, one could increase the dedicated graphics memory. XPS 13 stays at 128, with more available as "shared". Will this affect performance? How can one increase the dedicated memory on XPS 13? For Lenovo it was possible and it was also Skylake.

A:Increase HD graphics dedicated memory for Skylake

There is no way -- the 128 M is the Z-buffer - not the dedicated video memory (there in fact NO dedicated video memory - it's all system RAM).  The driver will allocate as much system RAM as needed up to the maximum allowed by the total RAM in the system - there is no way to manually allocate it.

Hello Lenovo Community!I have a question about what can i do in order to increase my  shared dedicated video memory on the Integrated Intel HD Graphics 615 chipset. As i know, it should be possible to do this.i would really like to have at least 256 MB and try some games on my new laptop. But sadly, it freezes and runs very bad even on medium-lower i graphics games like World of Warcraft.(20 fps). I searched on the internet, but eventualy i was  sent here, to my manufacturer's community. I'd really like your help, if this is possible. I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you!

A:Increase dedicated graphics memory on my Lenovo 710 11IKB

Welcome to the CommunityAs there isn't an option in the BIOS Setup to change the amount of video RAM, I don't see another official way except of the installation of Intel generic graphics drivers for this adapter. Usually laptop manufacturers restrict the feature you need in the customized graphics drivers while Intel allows that for some graphics adapters in its generic drivers. But there isn't a guarantee these drivers are capable to install on certain OEM graphics adapter.

A:how to increase dedicated video memory ?

This depende on whether your notebook has switchable  graphics (discrete video adapter) or not. HP 6450 notebooks normally do not have discrete graphics because the graphics is supplied on the same chip as the CPU. Discrete graphics is usually only available on high end Gaming notebooks. Video memory for a notebook which has onboard graphics is determined by the amount of installed physical memory module(s). Increase the installed memory top 8 GB and you will see an increase. If you have a notebook with a discrete video adapter (mini PCIe), then you can only increase the video memory by upgrading to a compatible discrete video  adapter that has more memory.

Welcome to Seven Forums yuya86!
With a factory motherboard there is little they allow you to change in the BIOS. I have an old Dell Vostro. The only suggestions I have are:
1. Determine how much RAM your system will support and upgrade to the maximum.
2. Check with Dell support to see if there is a "hidden" method to bolster the graphics memory.

good luck!

Hi,
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
Unfortunately, there is no option in the BIOS to increase the dedicated video memory.
Depending of the chasis of Optiplex 9020, you may upgrade the video/graphics card if required. Only Mini tower and Small Form Factor chasis of Optiplex 9020 support the dedicated graphics card.
Below is the spec sheet for Optiplex 9020:

There is no way to upgrade or reallocate video RAM on your system -- it has no dedicated video RAM of its own.  You really need a system with a minimum of a hybrid video (Intel-AMD or Intel-nVidia) setup.

Hello,

I have an Acer Aspire 7750G-6662. It has switchable graphics with Intel Graphics as well as AMD Radeon 6650M 2GB VRAM.

I've already solved my first obstacle, which was how to set my laptop to only run the Radeon Graphics.

However, my new problem is that I am not sure if it is performing at it's max capacity. After some research on the internet, I came across the program called GPU-Z to monitor my memory usage.

In the "Memory Usage Dedicated" section, it states that the highest number it achieved while I was running a game (Arma 2), was 560mbs.

This seems to be far below the 2GBS of VRAM that my graphics card is stated to have.

Some additional information on this is:

I originally figured out how to set my dedicated card as my main graphics through a method posted in this thread that I found on the sevenforums website:

Acer Laptop: Switchable Graphics using i7 & AMD Radeon

Refer to post #131

Also, browsing through the thread, on page 27, post #263, another user appears to have a similar problem that I am experiencing. He later states that he figured out how to rectify the problem, but did not post the solution.

My system specs are:

Acer Aspire 7750G-6662
Intel Core i5-2430M
Switchable Graphics: Intel and AMD Radeon 6650M 2GB VRAM
4GB DDR3 MEMORY
640GB HDD

So my question is, is this normal to only be maxing out at 560mbs?

I'm new to dealing with graphics cards, so any help is appreciated!

Hi, I would like to find out how much dedicated graphics/video memory I have and how much I have in total. If I'm not using all of it, how can I dedicate the rest of the memory so all of it is in use?

Thanks in advance,
Jaidyn

A:How can I find out and set dedicated graphics memory?

Wow, I'm not even sure where to begin in correcting your misconceptions about what video memory is.

The OS will allocate video memory for several things, among them is the actual video display (the pixels shown on your screen). This memory is typically much smaller than the total amount of memory your card has, but that extra memory is used by programs (such as Aero, or 3D Games) to create textures, do compositing, or various other tasks. This is dedicated video memory and cannot be used for anything other than video GPU memory.

Ok, I lied, that's not entirely true. Some video chipsets (notably Intel) can share video memory with the host computer, and you can change the amount of memory is allocated to video rather than system memory. That memory must still be dedicated to video memory though, once you set it in the bios.

In any event, video memory is video memory. Your system will use what you have, and any extra goes unused if it's not needed.

Proactiveboomer, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Unless there is an option in the bios to change it to 512 MB, you can't. Also if it is there and you increase, you will also have less system memory.

As far as that 3067 MB available that is the total of dedicated and shared, and the shared only gets used if/when the dedicated is filled up. This might help some,

Dedicated system memory is what the CARD gives to the PC. So if you have an app taking most of your ram, the card will give it its own DEDICATED system memory. But your pc has dedicated GRAPHICS that is for aero and gaming. So if you have 1GB= 1024 MB and 64MB DEDICATED SYSTEM MEMORY, your COMPUTER can use 1088MB TOTAL for APPS.

I just bought an used W540, 20BG0014US. I am confused about the graphics. There are two display adapters shown in the Device Manager. But they are actually one thing? And there are only 64MB dedicated memory and all others are shared and up to 2GB in total. That's why its Windows Experience Index for Graphics is only 5.3 and lower than my old W510 which is 6.4. Is this right? or my used W540 needs some configrations?

A:W540 graphics only has 64MB dedicated memory?

Good day.

Your W540 has dual graphics: the HD4600 is integrated into the CPU/chipset system, while the nVidia is technically discrete.

Here's the factory config of the MTM you provided:
i7-4800MQ (3.70 GHz), 8GB RAM, 256GB Solid State Drive, 15.6in 1926x1080 LCD, NVIDIA N15P-Q1, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11abgn wireless, Bluetooth, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, Camera, 9c Li-Ion, Win 7 Pro 64

In every case I've seen, Intel HD integrated graphics have 64MB of dedicated VRAM, and then a quantity of shared RAM is allocated as needed, and managed by the system. Searching on: NVIDIA N15P-Q1, I see references to 2GB of dedicated VRAM.

The reason, I believe, that you may see lower WEI scores on the W540 is that it may default to HD graphics for the benchmark. I don't know if it's possible to force the benchmark to use the dGPU. I'll leave that to more knowledgable members.

Hope this helps a bit.
Regards.

The short and simple answer is you don't. That and you wouldn't want to as despite the speed of system ram, it is still slower than what is on the video card. The 256 MB on the card is all you get, and the only way to increase it is to buy a card with more on it.

I have 2gb total graphics memory. But most of it is shared.how can i convert it to dedicated?

A:How can I convert my shared graphics memory to dedicated gra...

You cannot. What would you hope to accomplish if you could? Your video is all provided by the processor (called an APU) as it is essentially both processor and video card so all the memory for video and everything else comes from the system memory. Only a small bit is segregated solely for video function but the system is capable of taking all the memory needed for video from the system RAM. It is not a super powerful video system for gaming or anything like that.

Hello,

I have bought a Lenovo 3000 G530 4446 Laptop:

The man told me it is a 256MB graphics card (Onboard)..

But i have been wondering until now and have not yet made sure what graphic card it is can you please tell me?

What i see in the Advanced Settings in Windows about the adapter is this:

Can you tell me what is: Total Available Graphics Memory - Dedicated Video Memory - System Video Memory - Shared system Memory??

Is the Dedicated Video Memory the value of the graphics card itself?? 32MB??

Please give me a constant answer.....

Thanks.

A:Help with my Graphics card and Dedicated Video Memory, please!

Dedicated is just what it sounds like. I think of it as a "minimum," amount of video memory. The shared memory is basically what the rest of your unused pc ram will let you use.

In turn, he kind of lied, but not really. Or maybe he didnt know(giving the benefit of the doubt).

In order to get my Qosmio F750 ready to run some games, I have updated all of the drivers on via the toshiba website and NVIDIA website while also downloading the relevant software. This includes updating the BIOS to version 2.00.

According to the [laptop specifications given on the Toshiba website|http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/products/computers/qosmio/f750/pqf75a-02y00q/specifications],

I should have the following allocation of memory to the graphics:
"4095MB Total: 2048MB dedicated memory + 2047MB shared memory"

When I go to check the Performance Information and Tools window, I get shown the following information:

Graphics
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Display adapter type Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
Total available graphics memory: 1696 MB
Dedicated graphics memory: 64 MB
Dedicated system memory: 0 MB
Shared system memory: 1632 MB
Display adapter driver version: 9.18.13.1422
Primary monitor resolution: 1366x768
DirectX version: DirectX 10

Of course, when I look carefully at the laptop specifications, I realize that the current graphics memory allocation corresponds to the Power Saving Mode i.e. graphics allocation when running on battery power

Normally this would be fine, however, I do not see any change in the info displayed even when I am running on AC power.
I have checked all of my power settings but even when everything is set to 'p... Read more

Hi

This is controlled automatically by graphic card driver.
If the application which is running would require more RAM (i.e game), the graphic card would control this value and would add a part of the main memory to the graphic card memory.

A:amount of dedicated graphics memory on the ati radeon hd 6370?

Best thing to do is download GPU-z here - Downloads | techPowerUp

Then open it, and have a look, similar to my screenshot. Mine has 3GB though.

Sorry this isn't exactly about graphics cards.

I can't seem to increase my dedicated video memory for integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600, even though I have put it up to 1024MB (1GB) in my BIOS. My Total Available Graphics Memory is 7786MB, and my Shared System Memory is 7658MB. However, no matter how much I change it in the BIOS, my Dedicated Video Memory (DVM) is always stuck at 128M. Is this a integrated graphics thing or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks in advance for your help.

A:Intel HD Graphics 4600 Dedicated Video Memory

It uses more ram when it needs it, no need to have it dedicated .
from Intel
"Since there is no performance advantage to "reserve" a lot of system memory for graphics at boot and thus making it unusable for common applications such as Excel, Photoshop, etc., Microsoft requires that Intel graphics dynamically allocates memory system only when needed - without holding a bunch of memory as "dedicated". What Windows is calling dedicated 32MB is actually only a small amount of system memory to graphics drivers reserves at the start of internal bookkeeping"
