Vista laptop 'Enter Credentials' won't remember username/password

Q: Vista laptop 'Enter Credentials' won't remember username/password

Hi there,

I've got a laptop running Vista that I connect to the WLAN at university, but every time I connect, I have to re-enter my credentials because for some reason the "Save this user name and password for future use" check box is greyed out in the 'Enter Credentials' dialog.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Benjamin.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I regularly use my laptop over the wireless network to access folders on my desktop machine - both are Win 7.

Today I bought a new Win 10 laptop and when I try accessing the desktop machine, the new Win 10 laptop asks for UN/PW via the dialog "Enter network credentials."

I have no idea what to enter. Assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

How to force IE 11 to ask for saving credentials again for just one web site, after having accidentally sellect not to remember password for that particular site. Please, take into account that:

- I'm totally aware that storing credentials is not a good security practice, but in my particular case this is what I need to do.

- I know that reseting IE or similar approachs will do the job, but doing that I'll lost more tan 70 web sites credentials. I need a solution not involving loose all the web credentials stored.
- I also know that there is way to do the trick "lying" to IE using a modified but similar username, but this only works in some web sites, depending on the kind of login mechanism used. In my particulare case this trick also does not work.
- I also know that there was a registry hack for this particular problem, but this does not work with IE last versions.

Any help would be very apreciated.

If you use a clean up program that deletes Temp files, that's when the passwords were deleted. Using a master password saves everything and allows sites to fill in password and user name so you just have to log in to the site.

Have had Linksys WRT54G router for about a year now. No problems. A little over a month ago it quit connecting to the internet and the only way I can connect to the internet is to click on the dsl icon and enter username and password. I bought my daughter an ACER laptop for Christmas. You could see the router in the list. No problem. Now she has to click on the dsl icon to connect. There are no available wireless connections now on either computer. We also have a Wii and it connected with no problem, but now it will not connect either. Went to router setup and changed the connection type to PPPoE and entered the username and password for the dsl, but it did not work either... I have not upgraded the firmware...do you think that would solve these issues?

For example, when I log into MS Messenger, I can no longer have this option, and I need to reenter my user name and password with each login.

How can I get back this feature?

Within the last few weeks, IE no longer will remember store credentials (username/ password) when it did before. Windows updates were installed and I am wondering if it is a result of the updates. The computer has been restarted several times. Not only will it not remember previously stored credentials, but it won't save the info. For example, I go to a site that previously work and subsequently manually type in my username/ password and click login. Next IE will ask if I want to save my info and I click save. Next time I visit the same site the info is not saved. It is a Windows 7 machine with IE 11. The box is checked for install new versions automatically. For some reason on my other computer when you click internet options>content> AutoComplete> Settings, however, the "Manage Passwords" box is not there. Only the "Delete AutoComplete History...". The "User names and passwords on forms" & "Ask me before saving passwords" boxes both are checked. Also, I have gone in to Credential Manager in the control panel the info I see is:

Windows Credentials - No Windows credentials

Certificate-Based credentials - No certificates

Generic Credentials - only one website and Outlook info is stored here

Consequently, I attempted to add the site manually under "Generic Credentials" and got the following error message:

Error Code - 0x80070057

Error Message - The parameter is incorrect.

Hi to you all, I am so sorry to have to tell you but I am unable to remember my pass word on my laptop which is fairly new. Its a Lenovo Yoga 510 (14") and its windows 10. I have tried so many times now, and it tells me to go to..... and I am not sure I will able to a reset on my own. Its rather a feeble problem and has taught me a big lesson

A:Can't remember my password for laptop

I am sorry to inform you that we will not assist
One of our rules is
Please do not ask for assistance with (or ways to bypass) a forgotten or unknown password, personal identification number (PIN) or any other type of access code that may be required on a computer, mobile device or web site. As there is no way to verify the actual situation or intent, no assistance will be provided and any such threads will be closed.Click to expand...

I know that is not the reply you wanted but hopefully you will understand - as I have highlighted in bold - that we do not know the situation or intent.
Additionally should it be your laptop that you did not want other people, perhaps your children to have access to - you would not I think be very pleased if this site enabled such access OR indeed if it was your laptop that was stolen and we enabled the thief to gain access

All I can say is - if it is a local account only you have real problems
If it is a Microsoft account then you can reset it as here
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/12429/microsoft-account-sign-in-cant

Finally as also highlighted you can expect your topic to be closed.
Despite the above good luck with trying to remember your password

I have recently replaced an old XP laptop with a new Vista laptop. I had been content until now to just share the wireless network with my Vista desktop, but now that both systems are running the same OS, I wanted to enable file and printer sharing. I'm a grad student, so it's really convenient for me to be able to do research on either machine and access it on both.

I have enabled recognition, sharing, printer sharing, etc. on both systems. Both systems show up in the private network. I have user names and passwords enabled on both systems. However, when I click on the desktop from the laptop (and vice versa), I am unable to access either. The login/password box appears, but when I enter the information, I am told that it is invalid.

Details:
Desktop is named John-Desktop
Laptop is named John-Laptop
I only have one account for each machine - both are named John
Passwords are the same for both accounts.
When I enter "John" as username from the laptop, the error box that pops up has replaced "John" with John-Laptop\John, and vice-versa with the desktop.

Both systems are running Vista Home Premium.

Do I need to set up a second account on each machine in order to log in? If so, do I need to NAME them "John-Laptop <name>", etc.?

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, need some help please.
Mcafee popped up and said it had removed a Trojan, at just about the same time, one of those fake "Your computer is at risk" windows opens
and begins a false scan. I opened and ran the Advanced system care program and after about 2 minutes the computer died.
When I tried to restart the pc, it asked me for a user name along with my password ( it always only asks for my password...).
Tried any username I could think that it could possibly be (it usually calls me Rufus) along with my password and it kept coming up
saying the user and domain can't be reached or are disconnected (Can't remember the exact wording).
What I usually do if I'm having trouble is reboot in safe mode and do a system restore, but it's not allowing me....
Tried going into F2 or F12 and changing admin and system passwords (which didn't look like they'd ever been set) but it didn't help. Tried F8, F5, reloading windows (didn't give me the option...)
Trying not to have to take it to a repair store as I hear some bad things about them.
Typing from work, any help greatly appreciated.

Hello rufusjack and welcome to the forums

Well, you seem to have tried most of the usual methods of solving the problem, however I would suggest that you scan your computer with the AVG rescue CD:

AVG - Rescue CD | PC Rescue and Repair Toolkit

Then this video will show you how to download and create the rescue CD, although you will have to do this on another computer:

Then this video will show you how to remove an infection with the CD:
