X230 trackpoint buttons not working after keyboard replacement

Q: X230 trackpoint buttons not working after keyboard replacement

Hi everyone!I'm in a bit of a pickle. My old keyboard on my x230 (running win10 pro) was utterly worn out so I decided to replace it which is easy enough. However now the mouse buttons for the trackpoint are not working. The trackpad and the trackpoint itself along with the rest of the board work "flawlessly" but not the three buttons for the trackpoint. I'v tried removing and reinstalling the Synaptic drivers, both the newest version and an older one recomended on a different forum. I have triple double checked the board connection is firmly attached and that all the settings in both BIOS and the synaptic panel are set as normal but still no luck. Any help or advice to solve this would be greatly appriciated.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi there, a buddy of mine got a ibm r52 laptop recently from a relative that sat for a few months. anyways, it was given to him and it worked great for about a week then he noticed issues with the keyboard, trackpoint, scroll pad and buttons not working sometimes after boot.
And when they dont work...they dont work. Its not a on and off thing...its either or.

So he has me looking at it...

I dont think its a big issue b/c the keyboard will ALWAYS work when i want to go into the BIOS. I loaded up a Acronis TI boot disk and the keyboard and trackpoint worked fine...but then i tried it again and only the keyboard worked and no trackpoint or pad.

So far i have tried updating the BIOS and embedded controller to the latest with no luck.
Ive also tried a quick fresh install....no luck...still either on or off.

However, if i plug my usb wireless mouse in the mouse cursor works fine...always...

So i guess my next step is to open her up, but im waiting to hear back on any suggestions first....and i got to find a service manual for it...
Thanks for reading.

Lenovo, I've just upgraded my Yoga 260 to a brand new Yoga X380, which is the most expensive Lenovo computer I've ever purchased since this year's crop of computers is fantastically expensive for some reason.  I really didn't mind spending great money on a ThinkPad though, since it is supposed to be an excellent computer.  I've purchased about 16 of them personally since my first ThinkPad 600E.  However... I'm beside myself with a fundamental flaw in this latest computer: The keyboard and TrackPoint buttons are MUSHY.  That is, the same terrible keyboard and mouse action that you'd get on a Dell or something.  You can feel the rubber movement underneath it.  THIS IS NOT A THINKPAD KEYBOARD.   The trackpoint buttons are mushy garbage, you can't even tell when it is "clicked" or not, they're just soft nothingness. I'm incredibly disappointed.  Can I send this back to you and have you put a REAL THINKPAD KEYBOARD in it?  One that has firm key response?  One that lives up to the ThinkPad name?  I can't stand using this computer with this terrible keyboard.

A:X380 Keyboard and Trackpoint Buttons "mushy" - can I get another one?

Follow up to my own posting, it looks like there are Chicony and Sunrex keyboard and mouse FRUs for this computer. Is one of these keyboards the "real" ThinkPad quality I'm used to and the other less so? If so, can I get these parts exchanged?

Could someone from Lenovo let the forum know if it will be possible to replace the W540 Trackpad / Bezel / Keyboard assembly with the new one from the W541 which has integrated physical Trackpoint buttons.  This would make a very big difference to me and I suspect a lot of other W540 owners who use the Trackpoint. I am the current owner of 5 Thinkpads and have been a loyal customer since the 600 series. The increased pressure necessary to generate a less reliable click on the Trackpad has greatly exacerbated a problem with the top joint of my right thumb - I have had to retrain myself to use my left thumb to do all clcking.  The problem was nowhere near as bad on the old Trackpoint buttons - where I could use them with my right thumb for several hours with no symptoms, I can now manage only minutes.

A:Replace W540 Keyboard with W541 Trackpoint Buttons

Add me to the list of W540 that wish to have a real workstation with original IBM style trackpad WITH BUTTONS! Similarly, we need to somehow add an LED to indicate HD I/O's. Maybe integrate this into the new PROPER trackpad. Example: Right now I'm copying off my NAS, 2.5 gig of PDF files catalogued by Calibre. The transfer has been running over 2 hours and only 35% done, and I have NO IDEA if data is transferring when the screen blanks out.  Thankfully, Western Digital's external Passport drive has an LED that flashes with the I/O, and this is the ONLY indicator that tells me the NAS data flowing and being backed up to the USB drive. Crypting does slow the data. Now, I realize that what I'm doing is not the best - using my WiFi connect for the transfer and USB 3.0 -, which is slow on this 'marketing promoted' Workstation. Hopefully I stuck it in the right port, as none are color blue identified, left front. ....  I'm blue <g>.

Hi all Can anyone help me diagnose a problem I'm having with a friends T410. The trackpoint and touchpad buttons have stopped working (both left and right click). I am forced to use the laptop with an external mouse. The trackpad and touchpoint themselves both work just can't click anything, I have tried uninstalling drivers and re-installing but that hasn't helped, have also run Hirens boot cd - Mini XP mode and the buttons don't work there either. Sounds like a hardware issue to me but would like a second opinion before I start pulling it apart! Many thanks Chris

A:Touchpad and Trackpoint buttons not working

Hi whitehouse87,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you again.

As I understand that you are facing issue with Touchpad & Trackpoint buttons are not working in T410.
You have tried almost everything & I don't think so its related to software or drivers. You can check without drivers once whether clicks are working or not. Else its a hardware issue for sure

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Good Morning. I have an issue with a T570 laptop's trackpoint BUTTONS. Machine is running Windows 7 Pro. When the "generic" Microsoft Compatible PS2 driver is installed, the Trackpoint and 3 Buttons work with no issues, however you lose all gestures on the touchpad. When any version of the Synaptics driver I can get my hands on is installed, the Trackpoint continues to work, however the 3 buttons die. The trackpoint check box in the UltraNav settings tab is checked. If I uncheck, the trackpoint stops working (as would be expected). Checking it again allows the Trackpoint to work but the buttons remain dead. Without being too long winded I do want to throw out there that this laptop is in an Enterprise environement and was imaged using a build from T560.If the Windows 7 OS that came from the factory is left on the machine, the Trackpoint buttons function with no issue.Note that the driver versions of both the MS Compatible PS2 driver and the Synaptics driver between the Factory image and the Enterprise image are the same. I'm sure the solution is buried in the registry somewhere, just not sure what to change or delete entirely to get the buttons reenabled. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi, I was looking for a replacement keyboard for my x230 and was wondering how I could tell if that keyboard would be compatible with my laptop. For example would a Korean x230 keyboard work on my x230 from Canada? and if the Korean x230 Keyboard had backlighting, would that backlighting work on my laptop which currently doesn't have any backlighting. I searched for a bit in the forums but couldn't get a clear answer, any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Hello! I have a HP 630 Notebook PC. After some time the warranty expired, I tried to clean it up on the inside, because there was too much dust and it was overheating very fast. After doing this (I disconnected some cables and reconnected them the exact same way they were), some keys are not working. Also, I ran HP PC UEFI Hardware Diagnostics, and it returned me this error code: UAGDWJ-0008HX-MFKR5F-G03403. Do you know any solutions for my problem? Thanks in advance!

After being infected with a trojan yesterday, I have my laptop back up and running, however, the top 4 buttons, Thinkpad, Volume down, Volume up, and mute are not working. I believe that this is because I am not loading a driver for them during startup (I had to disable a few to get rid of the virus), however, I can not figure out which one might be causing the problem. attached are the screenshots of all the startup programs and my current settings for them.

Hi

The driver will be an audio driver, if it is that. You can go into Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices to try accessing the same services from there and let us now if that works. Because if it does, your sound driver is perfectly loaded an the problem may likely be elsewhere.

Hello, this is my first time posting here so if im missing any info i should provide about the issue, please let me know. I have an issue with a Thinkpad x260, the Trackpoint buttons are not working and are greyed out in the settings, the trackpad is also greyed out but working.  This only happens when i have drivers installed, ive tried different versions of the driver and it still doesnt work, as soon as i remove the drivers and have default PS/2 drivers the trackpoint buttons work but obviously without any precision etc because of no drivers. So my question is if this could be an hardware issue or maybe some other driver thats causing this issue? Thanks in advance.

W530 laptop with latest recommended Synaptics driver (19.0.17.115), Windows 10. I occasionally play games on my laptop using the touchpad and mouse buttons. Thanks to these forums, I learned that I needed to disable PalmCheck in order to be able to use the touchpad at the same time as the keyboard. Everything works great for my (default admin) account. I set up an account for my son to use so he could play Minecraft with his brother. Though I have more than quadruple-checked the Ultranav settings from my son's account, the mouse buttons refuse to operate when a key is pressed. Interestingly, the touchpad itself DOES respond, it's just the mouse buttons (both R & L) that insist on waiting until all keys have been released. So in summary:* Works fine on my original > 4-year-old account that I migrated from W8 years ago;* Does not work on a separate account I created a couple of months ago. Any idea where to begin with this one? This smells like a funky setting in the registry for my son's account.

Hey guys, I use a Toshiba Satellite A100 Laptop. A few hours ago I was pulling something out from under the spacebar button, and now the X, C, V, M and quotation buttons won't work! Sometimes if I push the spacebar on the side, it'll do something like this: mFDA"

I tried resetting the laptop but no dice. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem, and is it fixable without having to bring it in/replace the keyboard? I tried looking on the internet and some sites vaguely said something about loose wires, but I'm not sure.

Please help me out!

Assuming that you didn't pry the keys themselves loose, yes it could be loose wires. Open up the thing and see.

I had a few problems getting sound to work, realized that had to use the digital out to get the system I have to work. After using an adapter from the digital out it worked fine. I proceeded to dump the Norton that was installed and download Mcaffee from AOL. I also downloaded Spybot and Adaware and ran scans,, deleted a few nasties that came up and ran scan with Mcaffee. Everything fine with the exception that the volume buttons on the keyboard no longer work. Ive been into all the Keyboard setup and volume controls and have yet to find anything to make the keyboard controls work again. It shows on the screen when u push the button but doesn't control vol. I can adjust externally or on the application. I have downloaded the latest drivers from HP but that didn't help either. All other controls work. Any ideas anyone?

My brand new X1 Carbon won't recognize Trackpoint thumb button input unless I press down hard (left, right and middle). All three buttons have a tactile bump and audible click when pressed but the machine won't register a click until I use an unnatural amount of force to force the button to bottom out.  With normal use, I'm seeing a 50% miss rate for clicks for lack of "smashing down" the buttons. Here's a demonstration of the problem:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsxTQNEkBoQ Has anyone seen anything similar to this?

The second replacement also had a loose left trackpoint button and every time I pressed the power button I heard a cracking sound coming from the right corner. The third replacement doesn't show this cracking sound but it also suffers from a loose left mouse button. All of them were made by Chicony (german keyboard layout). This leads me to the question:Does any of you have the same problem with his / her device? Please comment which keyboard you have (manufacturer and layout) and if your device suffers from the same problem or not. Thanks For my part, I'm pretty disappointed by Lenovo's quality control...--resonance

Hello, I updated my OS to Windows 10. Everything works perfectly except of trackpoint/touchpad. The first issue is really a critical one - trackpoint buttons are practically useless. Single button click causes the mouse click event multiple times - for example opens 6 new cards in a web browser instead of one. I've found another post here describing in detail exactly the same problem but the author didn't get any response, neither from HP nor the community: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Elitebook-8570w-built-in-mou... The driver delivered with Windows (which is also listed as compatible with Windows 10 on HP's 8570w support site http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5257503&swItemId=ob_152050_1&swEnvOid=419... version 19.0.12.0, causes the problems I mentioned earlier. The updated one from Synaptics website (19.0.19.1) additionaly prevents the OS from detecting the middle button... Additionally, the only gestures I can use are the basic ones - no advanced 3- or 4-finger ones (please don't tell me that the hardware is incompatible because similar gestures worked on Windows 8.1 I used earlier). I have a dual boot with Win10 and Linux and on Linux everything works flawlessly, so it's definitely not a hardware problem What should I do to make my touchpad and trackpoint fully functional?

So I did a recovery on the computer (since I rarely use it) and after that, I turned on the computer and realised that some keys are no longer responding. UN-responsive keys areArrow up KeyArrow left key4, 1, 0, and period key on the numeric section by the right side of the keyboard. When I tap each of these keys I hear a tone but no response on screen. Please how do I fix this issue, I really don't want to spend money on this?

hi, i was recently cleaning my tablet's keyboard and screen with a dry cleaning cloth. but after i turned my tablet back on, none of the buttons located on the base were responding. my speaker volume shortcut buttons and keyboard wont respond.

my mouse and left, right click buttons work fine though, and i notice the lights on my caps, num lock flick on on boot up. my volume buttons also have their lights on.

i heard a loud beep noise on my tablet during my cleaning too.

did i accidentally disable the bottom half of my tablet?

my screen buttons and external mouse work fine too.

im typing all this using my on-screen keyboard.

please, can someone help me.

thanks

HI,
I have just upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10. everything seems to be fine till now apart from the touchpad.
The problem is that every time I press a button on the keyboard the touchpad stops working for about 4 seconds.
another things is that most buttons do that, but for example the ctrl, function, alt and windows keys don't cause this problem.

Any Idea what can cause this? and do you know any solutions please??
I tried updating the drivers for both keyboard and touchpad, but that didn't solve the problem.
It's very frustrating and I'm considering to goback to windows 7!

Many Thanks :)

Just setting up a new computer. Have a logitech receiver and wireless mouse + keyboard ... batteries in both are good (I checked with voltmeter).

So everything is fine and I'm setting up windows. I go to local security policy to disable the administrator account and then go to rename it, and find out my keys aren't working!! But for some odd reason, the shortcut buttons to calculator and internet explorer work just fine... just none of the keys (numbers or letters) work. cntrl alt del doesn't work.

So I try a keyboard that is from a working computer, and that won't work either. I'm really stumped. The USB ports should be fine as the MOUSE works fine (the wireless mouse and also other mouses work fine). The motherboard is brand new.
The working keyboard I tested doesn't seem to be even getting power on this new computer. Not sure why. I can't even get into the BIOS cause the keyboard doesn't work!

A:keyboard stopped working!!! (keys don't work but shortcut buttons do .. HUH!?)

I bought a preowned ThinkPad X220 and it didn't have a red rubber Trackpoint on the keyboard, there is just a small black square and a gap.I ordered a replacement online and it did't fit, the square hole in the bottom of the red dome was too big, but it fitted on my X230 keyboard fine which has a yellow plastic square/star thing that the X220 didn't.Does the X220 take different Trackpoint sizes, or am I missing the yellow plastic part that my X230 has? If so can I buy that part separately or do I need a new keyboard? Thank you
