Q: Elite Thunderbolt 3 65W Dock + HP Spectre X360 Kaby Lake

Hello I just bought a new HP Spectre X360 with a elite thunderbolt 3 65w dock. After installing all the drivers everything is working when i connect the laptop to the dock. But the only thing that i cannot get to work is the power button on the dock. It doesnt light up in any colour like it says in the manuel and when i press it, it does nothing. I went to search for thunderbolt options in the bios but it seems there are none there. I updated to the latest bios (f.11) btw. Hope someone can help me with a solution kind regards Jelle

I recently purchased an Hp Spectre x360 from BestBuy. The laptop ran great and gave me no issues until I hooked the laptop on a 4K monitor. There are two thunderbolt 3 ports on the machine, one actually works fine connecting to the external display. However, the other thunderbolt 3 port does not project anything on the external display. In addition, the internal display blacks out. I know for a fact that both thunderbolt 3 port should be able to project to an external display (even multiple) but that is not the case for me. In need of technical support or guidance.

On the US HP store, the Spectre x360 with the 7th Gen Intel chipset is already available for purchase.I tried calling your sales rep who said he does not know when the new laptops will arrive.Does anyone have any info on when the laptops will be available for purchase?I saw you can already buy the Envy and Pavilion laptops with Kaby Lake, but not the Spectre x360.Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone seen / heard information regarding a possible ETA for the new Kaby Lake based Spectre x360 variants in the UK? It's exactly what I'm looking for, and I was really excited about the October release date, only to be disappointed when it came and went and yet it's still not available in the UK I've customized the spec that I'm after on the US store: 13", 1920x1080, Core i7-7500U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD, Win 10 Pro x64 - except of course it's lacking the UK keyboard.  The computer was purchased on December 10 2016, and on February 11 2017 I presented the fan system error 90B.
The error appears and disappears, I update the BIOS but it is still happening. The equipment is impeccable, so I discard dirt. Also the fan seems to work, and I have monitored the temperature and it has not changeda, although it has warmed considerably since I bought it. But the error still appears. The equipment has warranty but I buy it in USA and I am from Costa Rica.

I was running an emulator to see if my computer can halndle the output, and now I am here. My screen suddenly went black through some gameplay and will not turn back on. My laptop was charging and I had a USB Type C dongle/ hub connected to it. After my screen went black, I tried pressing the power button to power it back on, but it didn't work. I unplugged all other peripherals and tried the power button again, nothing. I don't mind performing a hard reset, I just need help turning my laptop back on for school. The LEDs don't even turn on when I try to reconnect the charger and the same goes for the LED on the power button. Please help. Thanks

Hello, As I've learned the "NEW" 2016 HP Spectre x360 13-w000 (Kaby Lake) does not have a digitizer built-in and thus does not support any Active Pen/Stylus. The only option available is to use some capacitive one. I have a Wacom Bamboo Stylus which performs horribly on my x360. Do you guys have any good suggestion for such a capacitive stylus, which is precise enough for occational note-taking, document marking, etc? Thanks!

Will the spectre x360 13-w0xx Kaby Lake model ever get an active pen or stylus? After buying this product and having it for over 3 months, I do not see the reason you would make this a convertable laptop and not have it pen-supported. Hello, I got my 2016 HP Spectre x360 (Kaby Lake) laptop a week ago, and it seems the battery life is very underwhelming. I get around 4 hours from mixed usage (browsing/productivity/media). I had the previous gen. Spectre and almost similar tasks got me 8hr+ battery life. I've tried battery testing/calibration etc. suggested in the support pages. Anyone else having similar problems? I want to give the laptop some chance before I replace/return it.

Hi, So having a bit of a frustrating experience finding a working dock for the new Spectre X360 (Kaby Lake). I need something with PD (power in), HDMI/DVI or DP out (two ports if fine, one up to 4k), and a few USB ports. I've tried a cheap aukey one and though HDMI works it's buggy. I'm now looking at this guy P5Q54UT - HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 Dock 65W but not entirely sure if it'll work. A few pluggable docks specifically mention that HP is not supported or claim HP doesn't support alt-mode (for USB C) and PD 2.0 spec. Any guidance is appreciated.

Was a new version of the Kaby Lake 13.3 Spectre x360 convertible released around April 2017 that supports the stylus? I have an original Kaby Lake 13.3 x360 purchased Feb 2017 and couldn't get the active stylus to work. Tech support said that the 13t-wx00 product W9A93AV doesn't support the stylus. Now I see that a stylus is furnished free with what appears to be the exact computer I purchased. I have been unable to get an answer from technical support as we have difficulties communicating. Does anyone know if the stylus is supported on my Spectre? I returned my original HP active stylus after tech support said they don't work even though the advertising at the time showed people using a stylus. Now they are giving one away free and I don't understand???? Can I update my convertible to work with the stylus? It's frustrating as I purchased the unit thinking the stylus would work and now feel cheated! I guess that's what I get for buying a brand new product.

I have Ubuntu 16.10 installed on Hp Spectre x360 Kaby Lake, I have noticed that on suspending the machine isnt exactly saving power  - the battery discharge rate seems to be stable at the idle discharge rate?Morover I have also noticed that the machine was a bit warm after a few hours, which makes me think that the machine was actually on but only the screen was off.Any sugessions on how I can get the same suspend features as in Windows 10?

Has anyone tried to update to Windows 10 Anniversary update? It's not listed by HP as supported (http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05195282), though it's a NEW model. I tried it once before, and that created issues with the HP Recovery Manager, and I reverted back. A few days ago, I got a BIOS update with the "Anniversary Update Comapatibility fix", however HP is yet to update their compatibility list. The incompetent phone support is again proved worthless as they don't seem to have any idea . I don't want to go through with all the hassle of updating and downgrading again, so I'd like to know if anyone has successfully got the anniversary update. Thanks!

To put the comment in context i originally posted this in the "Battery drain when shut-down" forum. Ok, trying to figure out how to get rid of the last 2-4% overnight drain i went through device manager and checked for outdated drivers, i then noticed that the driver for the NVME storage controller was a generic windows driver from 2006, tried to search for a update via device manager and hp's support page but no luck. Then i rememered that back in the old days i used to use driver update tools to fetch the latest drivers for my computer, so i installed iobit driver booster 4 (free) and gave it a spin. Guess what, it gave me a samsung driver from august 2016. Did a reboot and just to make sure it was working as it should, i fired up ATTO and CrystalDiskMark and ran benchmarks. I know what numbers the SSD got before and what reviewers of this machine have gotten, which was about 1700mb/s read and 600mb/s write. This is what i get after i replaced the generic nvme controller driver with the one from samsung:3000mb/s read and 1200mb/s write!!! Im not sure how the new driver will affect battery life or anything, but i figuered i'd let you guys know, i mean that is almost double the performance of the generic windows driver.   Try it out if you want guys, run a couple of SSD benchmarks before you install the new driver so that you have something to compare the after results with PS! Yes the driver update is likely the Samsung NVMExpress driver update 2.1: http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/tools.html I installed it in my Spectre 13 Pro and it updated the Microsoft Standard NVME driver from 2006 to the Samsung NVME dated 12/8/16. Unfortunately my speed increases were not as dramatic but there was an improvement....about 10% on both read and write side. I have the Samsung MZVLV256  aka SM951..M.2 disk and read is about 1500 and write is a bit over 500.  I did the same upgrade to my Zbook G3 MWS which has the 512 gig SM951 and this one is giving me fits...read is about 1300 but write shows up as an appaling 9 mbps. Has to be something wrong. Results are just about the same with or without the Samsung NVME driver.  Still the Zbook "feels" very peppy. Boot time is good and everything seems to run fine. So not sure whether I should be concerned or not.

Considering this new revision has been out for about a couple months now, I am really surprised that no one has posted about this yet. My question is simply exactly as the title says. Does the newest HP Spectre x360 13-w0XX that has the new Kaby Lake i7 support two 4k displays? I know that because of having Thunderbolt 3 ports, it has the right connections to support it. I guess the real question is can the Intel Graphics 620 support that? I know it can support one 4k display, but not seen anything about dual 4k displays.  I just recently purchased this lap top, and I love it so far. However 1 of the main reasons I bought it was because it was 1 of very few lap tops on the market with Thunderbolt 3. I think the only Windows laptop that had not only 1 but 2 of them. So if this laptop has the ports to support dual 4k without a graphics card that can, then that will be incredibly disappointing.

Hi, I received my laptop today and ever since I first switched it on the fan has been running. I checked the bios setting and fan constantly on is disabled, I downloaded the latest bios update and also the latest Intel thermal management drivers and applied them both in that order but neither stopped the fan. The system itself is running very cool, but as I said it has been running since I received it. I have googled and seen other reports of similar issues that all seem to involve returning the system for a replacement, but I'm thinking that can't be the only solution, can it?  Thanks, Nadia

Try ctrl alt delete to open task manager look for running processes and check HP Support Solutions Framework and see if it is hogging up CPU cycles. If so, stop it and your CPU load should drop to single digits and the fan should kick off. When the Support Assistant goes out and tries to get updates it can lock that Solutions Framework on and eat up 40% of the CPU causing the fan to come on.

I'm having trouble with super scratchy/distorted audio on the newest (Oct 2016, 7th gen i7) Spectre x360 (X7V22UA) and am wondering if this is just inherent to the design or if my machine has a hardware problem. When my machine was brand new out of the box, it sounded like the speakers were blown out when playing certain frequencies such as the Windows 10 notification tone. I did the standard troubleshooting, a HP representative asked me to send it in for repair, allegedly the speakers were replaced, but the replaced unit is just as bad. When audio plays at even modest volumes (right now I have it at 36/100), I can feel the laptop vibrating and rattling.I know this is a laptop and I'm not expecting the world's greatest sound, but the distortion is really annoying. Is this just inherent to the new x360s or am I just unlucky with my RMA? I've tried updating drivers, BIOS, etc. and the problem persists. Headphones are fine. It's definitely the external speakers on this laptop that are vibrating around.Steps to reproduce:Right click on sound in system trayChoose "Playback devices"Choose the only option, "Realtek High Definition Audio (SST)"Click "Configure"Click the "Test" button that plays three chimes in each speaker.Listen to it rattle.Is this happening to anyone else? Hi, I just got the new Kaby Lake (Intel's 7th gen) Spectre x360 and ran it through its paces. It seems to be a solid machine, but there's one serious issue so far - external displays flashing on and off, at least when hooked up with a USB-C Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort adapter (this one from CableMatters: http://amzn.to/2gKQrVR. What happens when I connect external monitors (1 or 2-3 via DisplayPort MST) is sometimes they work fine.Sometimes, if I disconnect and reconnect, they start flashing on and off.Sometimes, the whole laptop freezes upon connection (happened twice today so far).And finally sometimes the externals are not working at all - the system detects them, but selecting Extend or anything in multi-monitor mode just reverts back to Single.Oh, and this happens once: http://i.imgur.com/Su9zInD.png http://i.imgur.com/qG9K8yC.png - the external display got stuck in a 640x480 generic mode and would not turn on.As you can see, it's a [email protected]$%*. Here's a video of the flickering/flashing (case #2 above): https://youtu.be/OkngFs_h2xk. Both the laptop and the 7th gen Intel chip are relatively new, so I haven't been able to find a thread discussing potential culprits, or fixes from HP. I was noticing severe battery drain on my one month old spectre x360 i7 7500 ssd 512 GB variant. the laptop was taking more than 3 hours to charge and the charge was not holding for more than two and half hours for normal web browsing. It was also discharging at an unacceptable pace while completely turned off. However, the problem persisted. I decided to do a complete factory reset. Backed up my data and created a USB recovery using the HP support assistant software. However, while applying the factory reset, after the formatting of hard drive stage was completed the programmed returned an errors message "HP recovery manager failed error code=0xEFFFFF23". I tried doing it again and it would return the same error. I did a hardware diagnosis from BIOS and it does nothing. Tried loading a fresh Operating system through an OS bootable USB. The system prepares for install. But when it is ready it install, it fails to see any hard drive at all. I checked the HP support page for this machine to find if there is a SSD driver that I can load during the OS installation. However, I couldn't find the SSD drivers associated with this machine. So i recieved my spectre x360 in the mail last weekend and it occurd to me at one point that the f9, f10 and f11 function keys (the previous, play/pause and next keys) were not working. I do not remember if they worked before or that they were broken from the beginning They do not work with any music app that is running in the background: spotify, groove music or windows media player. I realy would appreciate any help at this point because this problem has driven me nuts over the last two days.

Hello, I purchased a new spectre x360, w013dx model number, from best buy on Feb 11 2017 and I seem to be having an issue that has popped up on this forum, YouTube, and various other Google searches, namely the loose, or more appropriately, the overly noisy and clicky touchpad. I am wondering A) is this a condition that becomes worse, progressively that is, or does it get better over time as the touch pad and other components get "broken in" so to speak, and mate together better, like using lapping compound on machine parts? B) If this is considered an issue, is there a fix for it if I send it in to HP? It is moderately bothersome to me, and in haven't really experienced it before on other laptops. I really like to use the 2 and 3 finger swipes and scroll features, and when I push down on the touchpad without clicking it, it feels loose and there is an audible click when I press down on it. I am coming from and Acer laptop that had an extremely smooth and oversized glass track pad so I may be overly aware because I got used to that one and it was very solid. I do not want to return it and plan to keep it because otherwise it is fantastic, but I have seen other people say this and I will echo it here, this is a 1200 to 1400 dollar device and  I want to make sure it is in peak condition because I plan to keep it for at least 2 to 3 years. If someone from HP could respond I would appreciate it. Thank you.

hello, we have a brand new spectre. first the device is amazing, i love it. but we have the following problem with the  HP Elite Thunderbold 3 65W Dock, if the Spectre is connected over Thunderbold Cable and on the Dock with Thunderbolt/Power combination cable connector, One 4.5mm power input every Device is working, Network is working, USB, both Display Ports are working, but the Spectre does not charge. i have installed the newest FIrmware Update  for the Thunderbold Dock Driver and i have updated BIOS, Intel Thunderbold Drivers on the Spectre. We have changed also the Thunderbolt 3 Dock with an new one, same problem.  one thing, on the front the light is off and i cannot turn on the spectre with the button.  any ideas, hints??? and yes i have connected the spectre over one of the 2 thunderbold ports, because the spectre has only 3 usb-c ports but 2 of them have thunderbold technology. i see also that the tb3 dock is recognized in windows at the thunderbold software.  kind regards, sebastian

For these occasions I had bought the Elite USB-C Dock - of course giving me many ways to connect, but also as a second charging device (in case I forget the original charger). Of course I was hoping that since both are HP devices it would work as expected. Now upon connecting the Dock via USB-C, it will display a notification telling me "For full performance, connect a higher capacity power adapter." This does suggest to me that it should 'perform' but not with full power - charge less quickly i assume. This is okay for me. But for some reason it does not charge at all when the laptop is active or stand-by. It will charge when the laptop is 'Off'. Now of course this is not really a solution for me - an empty battery and/or a laptop that is switched off does not really help me being productive . I have been reading outher blogs about this - but had not yet found this specific combination. Hello guys.Sorry for my english but im italian ...I bought the new HP Spectre 13 Refresh with Kaby Lake.I have the model with i5-7200U, 8 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD.But the computer is really slow, i see from the Task Manager that the cpu go to 100 % very often and use min 4-5 GB of RAM.Even web browsing is frustrating ( with 3-4 tab open ).I noticed also that the cpu work from 2.50 Ghz to max 2.71 Ghz, when should be from 2.70 Ghz to 3.10 Ghz.

Multiple pages on HP's website show the new x360 (Kaby Lake) being used with a stylus. I purchased an active stylus and after being unable to get it to work was told by tech support that the stylus is not supported with the new 13inch Spectre? Are the advertising pages on shop.hp.com incorrect or is there a stylus which works with the new Spectre? The footnotes say that not all hardware works with the Spectre however it seems to be pushing the envelope a little to show someone using the stylus, when apparently none work with this laptop?

Hi, I have just received the HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 65W USB-C Dock. I have plugged it in, and my Elite X2 1012 G1 charges, but that is all. None of the ports are working. Monitor is not recognised either. If I plug my phone in via the USB port, it will charge, but not recognise it as a storage device. I have searched everywhere, and cannot find drivers that will resolve this issue. I have:- Thunderbolt software installed, and running, but still to no avail.- Installed and run "Intel Thunderbolt Firmware Update Utility", but get an error that there is no controller driver. Please help. ps. The machine was reimaged with a corporate SOE. So I am not sure if I am missing drivers.

Unfortunately I still haven't resolved the issue with my laptop. It's rather frustrating because we have an identical laptop and hardware setup with one of my colleagues and his works fine. No combination of BIOS update software uninstall and reinstall has resolved this issue. It's a shame because I have been accustomed to using the docking station for my older Compaq based laptop / Workstation and I really do love the feature.

Hi All Could really do with some help on this. We are gonig to be using the HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station with our laptops. The issue I am finding at present is that you have to authorise for use on each laptop. This requires Admin Rights, something that we are no going to give our End Users. According to the manual located at: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05141189, on page 5, "Note: You must be logged on as an administrator on the computer connected to the dock. To enable a non-administrator user to select OK, enter the non-administrator registry key. Contact your HP Technical Consultant for this key." Does anybody have any idea what the key is? Kind Regards

I have exactly this issue (exame same symptoms) with a G17.Happens even if there are no peripherals attached to the docket. Was on .09 of the BIOS, upgraded to latest, no change. Have updated all HP and Intel drivers and utilities. Also removed graphics drivers in safe mode and reinstalled clean, no change, and performed an sfc /scannow.Was working fine week before last, no idea what changed to cause this.

I recently (yesterday, 16/08/16) started experiencing the dreaded Blue Screen of Death whenever my laptop is connected to my HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 Dock. The machine is a HP ZBook 15 G3. It has been connected to this dock for over a month without this issue. I'm not sure why the sudden issue as I don't recall any updates or new software prior to this happening. The dock is connected to 2x monitors via HDMI cables, and an ethernet cable. I connect a wireless mouse and keyboard to a USB3 port on the laptop. If the dock is connected to the laptop on startup, it reaches the login screen before BSOD. If I start without it connected, it will BSOD a few seconds after connecting the dock. It never gets to the point where the monitors display anything. It can boot with the dock connected in Safe Mode, as this seems to disable it from working. I have updated all drivers and the BIOS (including downloading the Softpaq Download Manager) but there has been no change. I've also updated the NVIDIA drivers to the latest version without change. What should I do next to solve the issue?

I would personally try isolating the culprit, then go from there: 1) remove 1 monitor from the dock, then test2) remove ethernet from the dock, then test3) remove the last monitor and hook it directly to the laptop, so the dock is attached with nothing to it, then test4) I have my dock set to "Always Connect" in the thunderbolt software, not sure if that helps any.

Hi all, We bought about 10 HP X2 Elite 1012 G1 along with Thunderbolt Docking station. I setup the laptop then installed the drivers for Intel Management Engine and Thunderbolt dock. Updated the firmware for Intel chipset as well. Since we setup these laptops user complain about the dock not getting detected by laptop. No matter how many times they restart. I went through each laptop and observed the following issues: 1- When I open the Thunderbolt software, it shows multiple HP docks in the attached devices with cross sign (which means the device is disconnected). It seesm that the Thunderbolt software creates multiple entries of the same dock then fails to detect it 2- When the laptop goes to sleep mode, the dock gets disconnected and then it doesn't get detected at all, even after reboot.  So far the only fix is as below: (which worked 90% of the time) 1- Uninstall both Intel management Engine driver and Thunderbolt Secure connect driver2- Install both Intel management Engine driver and firmware + Thunderbolt Secure connect driver BUT, this can't be a proper fix because in a corporate environment we can't go through this every single time. It's a total waste of time/money for a corporate. On top of that, users get frustrated by this issue that is ahpenning constantly. HP PLEASE FIND A PROPER FIX. However, the wire from the dock station to the laptop is a dual USB-C & power jack.1. If I will buy a standalone thunderbolt cable, will it work with my Specter x360 and the Zbook dock ?2. I noticed there are 2 models of the Zbook dock : 150W and 200W . Which one should I get, if at all?Thanks for your help!
