Hello I just bought a new HP Spectre X360 with a elite thunderbolt 3 65w dock. After installing all the drivers everything is working when i connect the laptop to the dock. But the only thing that i cannot get to work is the power button on the dock. It doesnt light up in any colour like it says in the manuel and when i press it, it does nothing. I went to search for thunderbolt options in the bios but it seems there are none there. I updated to the latest bios (f.11) btw. Hope someone can help me with a solution kind regards JelleRead other answers
I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system
It's worked out well for many of us in the past.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)
On the US HP store, the Spectre x360 with the 7th Gen Intel chipset is already available for purchase.I tried calling your sales rep who said he does not know when the new laptops will arrive.Does anyone have any info on when the laptops will be available for purchase?I saw you can already buy the Envy and Pavilion laptops with Kaby Lake, but not the Spectre x360.Any info would be greatly appreciated.Read other answers
Has anyone seen / heard information regarding a possible ETA for the new Kaby Lake based Spectre x360 variants in the UK? It's exactly what I'm looking for, and I was really excited about the October release date, only to be disappointed when it came and went and yet it's still not available in the UK I've customized the spec that I'm after on the US store: 13", 1920x1080, Core i7-7500U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD, Win 10 Pro x64 - except of course it's lacking the UK keyboard. Any idea how much longer I have to wait before I can replace my ancient 8+ year old laptop with this laptop of my dreams? Thanks,AlexRead other answers
Hello, As I've learned the "NEW" 2016 HP Spectre x360 13-w000 (Kaby Lake) does not have a digitizer built-in and thus does not support any Active Pen/Stylus. The only option available is to use some capacitive one. I have a Wacom Bamboo Stylus which performs horribly on my x360. Do you guys have any good suggestion for such a capacitive stylus, which is precise enough for occational note-taking, document marking, etc? Thanks!

Hi, So having a bit of a frustrating experience finding a working dock for the new Spectre X360 (Kaby Lake). I need something with PD (power in), HDMI/DVI or DP out (two ports if fine, one up to 4k), and a few USB ports. I've tried a cheap aukey one and though HDMI works it's buggy. I'm now looking at this guy P5Q54UT - HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 Dock 65W but not entirely sure if it'll work. A few pluggable docks specifically mention that HP is not supported or claim HP doesn't support alt-mode (for USB C) and PD 2.0 spec. Any guidance is appreciated.Read other answers
Hello, I got my 2016 HP Spectre x360 (Kaby Lake) laptop a week ago, and it seems the battery life is very underwhelming. I get around 4 hours from mixed usage (browsing/productivity/media). I had the previous gen. Spectre and almost similar tasks got me 8hr+ battery life. I've tried battery testing/calibration etc. suggested in the support pages. Anyone else having similar problems? I want to give the laptop some chance before I replace/return it.Read other answers
To put the comment in context i originally posted this in the "Battery drain when shut-down" forum. Ok, trying to figure out how to get rid of the last 2-4% overnight drain i went through device manager and checked for outdated drivers, i then noticed that the driver for the NVME storage controller was a generic windows driver from 2006, tried to search for a update via device manager and hp's support page but no luck. Then i rememered that back in the old days i used to use driver update tools to fetch the latest drivers for my computer, so i installed iobit driver booster 4 (free) and gave it a spin. Guess what, it gave me a samsung driver from august 2016. Did a reboot and just to make sure it was working as it should, i fired up ATTO and CrystalDiskMark and ran benchmarks. I know what numbers the SSD got before and what reviewers of this machine have gotten, which was about 1700mb/s read and 600mb/s write. This is what i get after i replaced the generic nvme controller driver with the one from samsung:3000mb/s read and 1200mb/s write!!! Im not sure how the new driver will affect battery life or anything, but i figuered i'd let you guys know, i mean that is almost double the performance of the generic windows driver. Try it out if you want guys, run a couple of SSD benchmarks before you install the new driver so that you have something to compare the after results with PS! Yes the driver update is likely the Samsung NVMExpress driver update 2.1: http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/tools.html I installed it in my Spectre 13 Pro and it updated the Microsoft Standard NVME driver from 2006 to the Samsung NVME dated 12/8/16. Unfortunately my speed increases were not as dramatic but there was an improvement....about 10% on both read and write side. I have the Samsung MZVLV256 aka SM951..M.2 disk and read is about 1500 and write is a bit over 500. I did the same upgrade to my Zbook G3 MWS which has the 512 gig SM951 and this one is giving me fits...read is about 1300 but write shows up as an appaling 9 mbps. Has to be something wrong. Results are just about the same with or without the Samsung NVME driver. Still the Zbook "feels" very peppy. Boot time is good and everything seems to run fine. So not sure whether I should be concerned or not.Read other 1 answers

Hello,I've followed some posts on this support forum, regarding if the new Spectre x360 Kaby Lake (Product# W9B13AV_1 http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/Laptops/hp-spectre-x360-convertible-laptop-13t-touch-w9b13av-1) supports or not an active pen. What we've learned is that this laptop doesn't work with HP Active Pen (Product# T5E12AA#ABL http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/accessories-88342--1/hp-active-pen-t5e12aa-abl) and HP Active Stylus (Product# J4R51AA#ABL http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/accessories-88342--1/hp-active-pen-j4r51aa-abl), based on some answers from the support team on previous posts, and based on the information contained in this page: http://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05166879.Some early online reviews stated that there is no support for active pen, Lisa Gade from MobileTechReview said: "The one feature missing from the previous generation is the active digitizer for the optional HP Active Stylus (a Synaptics pen technology). Given how heavily HP has advertised this feature in the previous generation, I'm surprised they removed it. And yes, it's really gone--there's no active digitizer listed in device manager, and I tested both Synaptics pens and Wacom and N-Trig pens just in case they'd switched to a different pen technology. That means you can use your finger or a capacitive stylus like those made for the iPad Air, but not a precise pen with pressure levels and palm rejection."http://www.mobiletechreview.com/notebooks/HP-Spectre-x360-Late-2016.htmSo, Is HP Spec... I'm having trouble with super scratchy/distorted audio on the newest (Oct 2016, 7th gen i7) Spectre x360 (X7V22UA) and am wondering if this is just inherent to the design or if my machine has a hardware problem. When my machine was brand new out of the box, it sounded like the speakers were blown out when playing certain frequencies such as the Windows 10 notification tone. I did the standard troubleshooting, a HP representative asked me to send it in for repair, allegedly the speakers were replaced, but the replaced unit is just as bad. When audio plays at even modest volumes (right now I have it at 36/100), I can feel the laptop vibrating and rattling.I know this is a laptop and I'm not expecting the world's greatest sound, but the distortion is really annoying. Is this just inherent to the new x360s or am I just unlucky with my RMA? I've tried updating drivers, BIOS, etc. and the problem persists. Headphones are fine. It's definitely the external speakers on this laptop that are vibrating around.Steps to reproduce:Right click on sound in system trayChoose "Playback devices"Choose the only option, "Realtek High Definition Audio (SST)"Click "Configure"Click the "Test" button that plays three chimes in each speaker.Listen to it rattle. Is this happening to anyone else? Seems like it's identical to the symptoms of this problem, but that's for an older model of the x360 and this new model has different hardware. Also, the old problem was never resolved.&... Has anyone tried to update to Windows 10 Anniversary update? It's not listed by HP as supported (http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05195282), though it's a NEW model. I tried it once before, and that created issues with the HP Recovery Manager, and I reverted back. A few days ago, I got a BIOS update with the "Anniversary Update Comapatibility fix", however HP is yet to update their compatibility list. The incompetent phone support is again proved worthless as they don't seem to have any idea . Hi, I just got the new Kaby Lake (Intel's 7th gen) Spectre x360 and ran it through its paces. It seems to be a solid machine, but there's one serious issue so far - external displays flashing on and off, at least when hooked up with a USB-C Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort adapter (this one from CableMatters: http://amzn.to/2gKQrVR. What happens when I connect external monitors (1 or 2-3 via DisplayPort MST) is sometimes they work fine.Sometimes, if I disconnect and reconnect, they start flashing on and off.Sometimes, the whole laptop freezes upon connection (happened twice today so far). And finally sometimes the externals are not working at all - the system detects them, but selecting Extend or anything in multi-monitor mode just reverts back to Single.Oh, and this happens once: http://i.imgur.com/Su9zInD.png http://i.imgur.com/qG9K8yC.png - the external display got stuck in a 640x480 generic mode and would not turn on.As you can see, it's a cluster@$%*. Here's a video of the flickering/flashing (case #2 above): https://youtu.be/OkngFs_h2xk. Both the laptop and the 7th gen Intel chip are relatively new, so I haven't been able to find a thread discussing potential culprits, or fixes from HP. Considering this new revision has been out for about a couple months now, I am really surprised that no one has posted about this yet. My question is simply exactly as the title says. Does the newest HP Spectre x360 13-w0XX that has the new Kaby Lake i7 support two 4k displays? I know that because of having Thunderbolt 3 ports, it has the right connections to support it. I guess the real question is can the Intel Graphics 620 support that? I know it can support one 4k display, but not seen anything about dual 4k displays. I just recently purchased this lap top, and I love it so far. However 1 of the main reasons I bought it was because it was 1 of very few lap tops on the market with Thunderbolt 3. I think the only Windows laptop that had not only 1 but 2 of them. So if this laptop has the ports to support dual 4k without a graphics card that can, then that will be incredibly disappointing.Read other answers
I was noticing severe battery drain on my one month old spectre x360 i7 7500 ssd 512 GB variant. the laptop was taking more than 3 hours to charge and the charge was not holding for more than two and half hours for normal web browsing. I had updated my BIOS firmware to F.10 and also applied the Sphinx fix as described [url ="http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Battery-drain-when-shut-down-HP...] in post 79 by Senchronize. I recently (yesterday, 16/08/16) started experiencing the dreaded Blue Screen of Death whenever my laptop is connected to my HP Elite Thunderbolt 3 Dock. The machine is a HP ZBook 15 G3. It has been connected to this dock for over a month without this issue. I'm not sure why the sudden issue as I don't recall any updates or new software prior to this happening. The dock is connected to 2x monitors via HDMI cables, and an ethernet cable. I connect a wireless mouse and keyboard to a USB3 port on the laptop. If the dock is connected to the laptop on startup, it reaches the login screen before BSOD. If I start without it connected, it will BSOD a few seconds after connecting the dock. It never gets to the point where the monitors display anything. It can boot with the dock connected in Safe Mode, as this seems to disable it from working. I have updated all drivers and the BIOS (including downloading the Softpaq Download Manager) but there has been no change. I've also updated the NVIDIA drivers to the latest version without change. What should I do next to solve the issue?
I would personally try isolating the culprit, then go from there: 1) remove 1 monitor from the dock, then test2) remove ethernet from the dock, then test3) remove the last monitor and hook it directly to the laptop, so the dock is attached with nothing to it, then test4) I have my dock set to "Always Connect" in the thunderbolt software, not sure if that helps any.Read other 2 answers

so i hear Kaby Lake and Zen isn't "compatible" with anything older than Win 10, but what does that mean?
will everything still work, but you just wont get any security updates via windows update?
or will they cripple it so it wont even boot?
i also heard that intel/AMD wont provide any chipset updates, but that should be fine right?
It means that on Kaby Lake or Zen you wont be able to install other OS than Win 10 or Linux.
It's Windows death sentence.

Help me understand how this works? I have a 6700k with w7 and w10. How does Microsoft know which CPU one uses with Windows?
Would, for example, a W7 computer with a 2600k get updates that mine would not?
If I were to get a Kaby Lake CPU and try to install w7 with it, what would happen?
Would only some useless power saving features not work? Would Windows 7 not install at all? What new features are coming in new processors other than power saving shenanigans? I have no idea what that author is talking about. I have installed multiple different Windows OSs via USB with NO "difficulty".
Furthermore, is this just fearmongering? It certainly seems like it may not affect consumers/enthusaists as much as the author implies.
Also, before anyone says "go to 7 forums", one will ALWAYS be comparing older OSs to the newest ones in regards to performance and compatibility thus I feel it's appropriate.
Newer processor may have some new instructions that older OSs don't know about. Similar things were happening in the past. Seems like MS is not going to bother with updates to older windows to be compatible with newer CPUs but Intel may come up with some patch.Read other 1 answers
HelloNow I know that Dell might not want to give any information about this topic, but I wanted to ask anyway. I will without any doubt buy a new laptop before the end of this year as my current laptop is so unstable that it is a complete no go at any exam.Kaby Lake quad core CPU's will not be hitting the market before 2017. However the nvidia 1050/1050ti will, to my knowledge, be released in October. Also there has just been a significant(around 100USD) discount on XPS 15(and the old 13) on the Dell website. At least on the danish site. This leads me to think that a XPS 15 refresh with a 1050/1050ti might come before the end of the year? Is this possible or are there no doubt that a XPS 15 refresh wont happen before Kaby Lake in 2017?Best RegardsEmilRead other answers

A few days ago I got the new 9360 with a standard configuration. In general a very nice piece of hardware. I do have a problem however (I am guessing it is the network killer driver). Of course I have been updating all available new drivers including 2DNC8_WN32_22.214.171.1247_A01.EXE
I am an online chessplayer using a chessserver (playchess). Since switching to the XPS 13 I have lag times not experienced before. I have been online multiple times and the result is very much the same. Funny with my 'old ASUS UX31' I have no such issues. At home I am connected to the same network, and my internet connection is via coax cable.
Since I thought this could not be true I did another test and set the Dell and the ASUS to do a ping test.
Firstly I pinged simultaneous (2 finger system) the chess server which is a long distance from my location (Australia to Germany) and then I pinged google.
Out of 10 tries the ASUS got 8 times the better ping times then the DELL for both the chess server and google. The ping times for google were of course shorter then the chess server.
Beats me, any idea anyone.

Reading on the internet, I cannot find a reliable source confirming if Windows 7 can be installed on Intel Kaby lake processors. Found sources telling me that you can and sources telling me you cannot.
I needed to try, so I booted an USB with a WIN7 iso using RUFUS and tried to install, however after starting the install I get this:
I tried to use both 3.0 and 2.0 USB ports, same error. I cannot load drivers from same usb or other USB as I cannot access them from there, so I am guessing that's not the issue. I also enabled legacy.
I don't even know what driver I would need.

Last week I had to return the brand new 9350 QHD+ because of the coil whine noise. It was a real pity because I was in love with the rest, but it was simply too loud.
Now I am thinking again what to buy.
Is the design of the new XPS 13 Kaby Lake (9360) solving the coil whine problem?
If yes, I would prefer to wait and buy the new version.
I hope that someone from Dell can give me an asnwer here. Thank you very much in advance!
This system is so new few if any users will have one in their hands.
Other thing to consider if it's an issue -- Kaby Lake will not run anything earlier than Windows 10, period - no work arounds, etc. It's Windows 10 or nothing (Windows-wise) -- if that's an issue.

I got the system about a month ago and over the past several weeks it has been crashing extremely frequently. Initially it would not resume from sleep, now if I let the screen time out, it will not wake up. I've tried windows updates, windows memory diagnostic and new WiFi drivers. One day it crashed 7 times as I was trying to figure out the problem. If I try and disable or update the Wifi driver after its connected to a network it BSODs. I disabled as much power managment as I could related to WiFi and it seems to have reduced the frequency of crashes, the crashes occur whether or not its plugged in.

I received my XPS13 9360 with i5 KabyLake processor, 8Gb of RAM, and 256Gb SSD configuration today and I'm impressed with it so far. I ordered a 9350 model with the (i5 SkyLake) last month but returned it to Dell for a refund due to the infamous 'noise' issue, sub-par network card performance, and intermittent speaker distortion. I really like the XPS 13 and dreaded have to send it back; I just couldn't accept the shortcomings and deficiencies considering the amount of money spent. Well, it is obviously too soon to say that there aren't any gremlins hiding and lurking in the 9360 version but I can certainly say that this particular system is working flawlessly--perfect. As far as noticeable differences in processor performance, I really can't say (or care)--I only had the 9350 for a couple of days so I have no basis to compare. I'm not into hair-splitting or super-sonic performance and could care less about the nanosecond differences in the SkyLake and KabyLake processors. I would have been quite happy with the 9350 had it not been for the gremlins I noted. I'm not the into gamer stuff anyway--the i5 processor is quite suitable for my purposes. However, the little bugger is super fast-scary fast! I am very impressed with the new Killer network card, too. Man, the thing i... Read moreRead other answers

I currently have an Envy 750-114 desktop, which has an i5-6400 processor. I am curious as to whether I would be able to upgrade to a 7th-generation Core processor (Kaby Lake), since it has the same socket. I realize that this line of processors does not appear to be officially supported, and thus any such upgrade would be liable to void any warranty on this system, but the warranty is just about expired anyway. The TDP of a 7th-generation processor appears to be comparable to that of the current processor (many of them appear to be 65 W, such as the i5-7500 or the i7-7700). My concern is less about official support and whether such an upgrade would work at all (particularly as to whether any issues may arise). I have the 2B47 1.04 board, with BIOS version A1.08.
@jackypop Most motherboards with the 1151 socket are typically capable of supporting Kaby Lake processors. However, that doesn't mean that all manufacturers will support Kaby Lake on the 1151 socket motherboards. The existing processor support list for your motherboard don't include Kaby Lake processors. Additionally, I can find no mention for Kaby Lake processor support in the last BIOS update fix information.Read other 1 answers
Hi! I would like to know whether it is possible to put 32GB of memory (as 2 x 16GB DDR4 SODIMMs) into the Kaby Lake version of the ENVY 15 (specifically, the as104na: http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=ECC_BUNDLE_6156376 ). The documentation suggests that 16GB (as 2 x 8GB SODIMMs) is the maximum, but it's unclear whether this is actually accurate or has just been copied from previous-generation documentation - otherwise-inferior competing products using the same processor and chipset such as http://www.dell.com/uk/p/inspiron-15-7560-laptop/pd?oc=cn75602&model_id=inspiron-15-7560-laptop clearly advertise support for 32GB of memory as 2 x 16GB SODIMMs. I can see that there are similar answers around for previous generations of the product, such as http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Is-32GB-RAM-possible-in-an-HP-E... , but does this answer continue to be true on the new versions? If so, can you offer some explanation as to where this restriction comes from? (For example, if it is really a testing/certification issue rather than some sort of hardware deficiency and therefore actually will likely work (without being explicitly supported) then I would be happy to take my chances with that setup.)

I apologise if there is a more appropriate section for this question. I currently own the H.P. Pavilion 500-268ea Desktop P.C. with Windows 8.1. Will H.P. be releasing a Desktop Tower P.C. that includes the newly realeased Intel Core i7-7700K Kaby Lake Processor in the near future? Regards. Pip.Read other answers
Hi all, so I am finally about to replace my Yoga 2 Pro. One of my main requirements is battery life for trans atlantic flights. I was initially looking at the 710 15 inch which seems to be getting good battery life, although reviews of the revised Kaby Lake are hard to find. Now with the 910 released, I am also looking at that model. Concerns with both models, the Best Buy versions that have 16gb of the 710 15 inch and 910 both have QHD screens which I am assuming hit the battery for around an hour of battery life vs. the FHD versions. Also the 710 FHD model in Best Buy is the i5 version (I am thinking I could drop an extra 8gb of memory into that revision as I believe there is a free memory slot available?) and so I am wondering would I really see much of a difference in the i5 vs i7, I do not do any HD encoding etc, the most taxing activity would be World of Warcarft which I think should run fine on either at reduced resolution.Last question, on the 710, is the SSD sata or PCIe? Again battery life is a concern, main usage for flights will be watching local video content, both 1080p and 720p. Thoughts?PatrickRead other answers

I have a dell xps 13 9360 and for the most part ever since I have owned it the mother board has made a fuzzy noise when there is any movement on the screen, the noise is even louder when plugged in. I sent it back to get fixed and the issue was not resolved. I heard that maybe dell is trying to fix the problem. anyway I was wondering if a return of the laptop would be the best option since dell couldn't seem to fix it the first time.Read other answers
