DSL Disconnects When Phone Rings

Q: DSL Disconnects When Phone Rings

I just got DSL and now everytime the phone rings i get disconnected. When i got it they gave me a Westnel 327 router/ modem and filters for the phones. I have the phone line going directly into the modem/ router, then from there i have a wire running to my linksys N Gigabit 310 router. I have the router shut off on the westnel. Also all phones also have the filters on them.

Anyone have an idea what the problem could be or what to test?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I had my 1st dsl account with verizon for about 3yrs it was terminated for nonpayment (their messup), never had any problems. they tryed to make thing right by setting up a new account new modem and 6 months free, from day 1 evertime you used the phone(either pickup and or hangup) the dsl disconnects, now it's to the point where 2 seconds before the phone even rings the dsl dissconnects and it seems like every 20 min or so the dsl randomly dissconnects. verizon has sent 32 techs to my house. after the 1st yr verizon decided to install the homerun package (NID is split house lines and jacks are filltered and dsl line unfilltered) problem is still there, this was tech 15 or so that did that. 2 yrs and 17 more tech still dc'ing. A:verizon dsl disconnects when, phone rings pickedup or hangup

This is clearly an ISP issue, and they're the only ones that will be able to fix it. Since they've installed the DSL filter and a direct line to the modem, that's as good as interior wiring gets.

The techs are correct, this is a problem either in the lines coming to the house or the CO.

Welcome to the board,

ok..are you sure your turning the system off and not putting it into standby..

Check this: go into Start > Control Panel > Phone & Modem Options > Modems Tab > Select your modem, click on properties > Select the Power Management tab:

Make sure the box labeled "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby" is not checked.

If it is uncheck it click ok, and you'll be fine.

But why your system is going to standby when you select Shutdown would still be a problem...but one at a time let me know if the above info fixes the first problem before we move to problem 2. :D

Every time my phone rings my wifi signal temporarily disconnects. I use Verizon Fios and my router is a Actiontec MI424WR , the phone that is doing this is a Vtech 2.4GHz model 2428. I've tried changing the channel on the phone but cant seem to get it to change. I dont have a control panel on the main pc to control the router so I can't change the router channel at the moment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thnx in advance.

A:Phone Rings= Wifi DC

Actually, you change the channel of the Actiontec router by logging into the router's web based configuration. If you have a connection to the router, you have the "control panel" to change the channel.

Go into the modem settings and turn off the auto answer. If the modem is set to answer when a signal is comming in it will activate the computer. I also do not think you are fully turned off check to see if you are in Hybernate mode and turn that off so when you shut down windows it actually shuts off.

When ever i am on my laptop or playing my ps3 and my house phone rings i instantly lose my connection. Both of these things are connected via Router (Wirelessly).

So today I decided to call comcast (I have Comcast High Speed Internet) so when i called them they said that I needed a booster and that they would send a technition to hook it up. But is this really what i need?, is there anything i can do besides getting a booster?

And what would this booster do?

A:Disconnected when house phone rings?

I have no idea with regards the booster but do you have filters on all your phone sockets. I know that here you need a filter to separate the voice part from the Internet part and the router connects to the line through the filters.

That may not be anything to do with your problem but those are my thoughts.

A:getting knocked offline when phone rings

If you are using DSL, I suspect you have either wiring issues or a missing/defective filter.

Here's my RX for bad DSL wiring.

Purchase a DSL splitter and install it at the telco service entrance. Run a direct line from the DSL port on the splitter directly to the DSL modem. Connect all of the other phone instruments to the telephone output of the DSL splitter. All of the DSL analog side wiring should be CAT3 or better twisted pair from the telco service entrance to the DSL/ADSL modem. You can use one of the twisted pairs in CAT5 cable if you have that on hand.

This is as good as it gets for DSL installations, and will usually solve in-house wiring issues.ing issues.

The first thing that comes to mind is that you have call waiting and it needs to be turned off. To make the modem ignore the call waiting inturept, go to Start>Settings>Control Panel>Modems and under Dialing Properties, near the bottom is a setting to disable Call Waiting. Check that and select *70 from the drop down box.

This problem began last week after my connection dropped off completely but once it returned after about an hour my internet would disconnect (not when the phone rings) but rather when it was answered.

I looked into the issue online and found it could be related to wrong settings on my Netgear router (which I checked out and was fine), the other issue that came up was filters.

So I rang AOL who said to change the filters and I put two new filters on and this seemed to stop the problem until tonight.

We changed the filters on Thursday and the problem stopped so we thought fantastic! Until tonight the phone rang and off went my internet.

It's odd as the disconnect only occurs when the phone rings and the connect immidiaetly restablishes after the phone is put down.

I'm wondering if there is anything further I can do as I feel like I'll hit a brick wall with my ISP (AOL!!!!), I've heard that it could be my router/modem is there a way to test this?

Anyone experienced a similar problem or have an idea how I can solve it or what the issue is?

I am still using dial-up as my main source of Internet access. I use a PCI SoftV92 Modem hooked up to a home phone line. This is the only line into my house, I have a slitter plugged into the line, with two ports, one has a line plugged in that is connected to the modem on my PC, the other has a line that connects my telephone. The telephone is a dual-system, it has a cordless phone and a base phone (not cordless).

My modem worked normal with my phone ever since I had my PC. Normally, when the modem was connected and one would lift the phone off the hook, you would hear the various noises of the Remote computer on the other end. If someone called while the Modem connection was active, they would hear a busy signal.

Recently, I had to reformat my HD. So of course I had to reinstall windows. So of course I had to reinstall the drivers for my modem.
This was about 5 days ago. Ever since, if someone lifts the phone of the hook, the modem will automatically disconnect. This is true with both the cordless phone and the base phone. If someone calls, they still get the busy signal and the modem does not disconnect, but if someone lifts the phone of the hook or turns the cordless phone on (like one would do to get a dial tone) noises can still be heard from the phone, but the modem disconnects.

I have searched through the various settings on Internet Properties, modem options, connection settings and stuff like that on my PC.

The phone does not seem to be doing thing out... Read more

I have a large Toshiba P25-S520 running WinXP Home. In the summer I shift from Cable
broadband to dial-up. This year, When I connected my phone line to the RJ11 hook-up, my telephone connection literally died. When I tried to dial up the internet, I received a "no dial-tone error." The minute I disconnected the phone line from my computer, all of my phones started working again! I checked the hardware device list and the modem is o.k. and I also "queried" the modem as well. All seems to be in working order.

I should mention that my husband's laptop works just fine, with no problems whatsoever.

A:Phone Line Disconnects When I Hook Up Modem!

I suspect that the actual modem had died. The relay (solid state or mechanical) that takes the phone off-hook is usually the suspect here.

Hi guys. My wireless connection woes are never far away .

OK, so I have a wireless connection that has been working fine for almost a year.

Yesterday, I restart my computer, and the connection is connecting...disconnecting...connecting...disconnecting...as so on!

This is only when I am actually browsing the Internet. It never disconnects when the connection is idle.

I have tried changing channels, and I don't think it can be interference, because no matter how close to the WAP I am, the connection keeps connecting and disconnecting.

Also, I tried connecting my WAP directly to my laptop and even the LAN connection kept disconnecting and reconnecting in the same manner! I even tried connecting the WAP to another PC and still, the same dis-reconnecting difficulty.

What to do? Is the WAP faulty? I notice on the WAP the RX/TX light is on and the Link light is on, then (when it disconnects) one light goes off, the other stays on, then the other goes on and the first one goes off, and this goes on and on and then they both stay on. After 10 seconds the pattern repeats itself...

What on earth is going on?

By the way, my WAP is connected to a router which is connected to my cable modem. The wired connection to the router works perfectly, but when the WAP is involved this happens (dis-reconnecting) as I said, even when PC/laptop is hard wired into the WAP.

It was working fine for a year, and then this?

I appreciate any help in advance (as usual ).... Read more

I could have sworn I saw a window that dealt with these animations and let you switch them off in Vista, but I can't find the equivalent in 7. I've gone through the Pen and Touch settings and disabled everything I could. Why do they make something so simple so hard to switch off?

I'm surprised that you are having a problem since this game is not that old. I would suggest running the game in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode.

If that does not work, it could be the security of Vista being a pain.

I got this game: The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth 2

The first was if DirectX 9 was installed, which i did,

The second was if i disabled the hardware acceleration which was enabled

The 3rd was If i had a compatible video card...
I don't even know if that's some thing you buy or if it's built in my Windows Xp...
Lord of the rings is fairly old so it would'nt have to need that good of a card, but i don't know.

Hi there....

sounds like a GPU issue.

are you monitoring card temps..??, if a card overheats the screen will blackout & force a reboot.

what PSU do you have..??, your card may be straining under load if there's not enough power.

as you say though, GTA4 is SUPER intensive..

Whilst I don't require help for this game, I thought I would let anyone that has the game or is getting it and has Vista of course that if you have errors on install all the way through it, don't panic, you must for this game go to My Computer, right click the drive the disk is in, then click open and browse to the Autorun icon, then right click it, and choose run as administrator, this is the only way this game installs at least for me.

I have seen alot of threads around the net about this and you must do it the way I have said above, doing it the usual way takes, well, if you left it for a couple of months, I'd bet that when you returned it would still be trying to install.

I wasted an hour and a half and each time the error appeared, usually error reading and then a map ie Isengard, it asked me if I wanted to retry, I clicked retry and the install continued, but the errors kept coming for every map, in the end the install seemed to get stuck and just sat there.

But I thought that if anyone has the game and is stuck then please do the above, worked a treat, still took about 20 minutes to install but all was well and no errors.

Hope this may help others with install problems
