T580 Image Issue

Q: T580 Image Issue

Hi all. I have a client that has a T580 with a very strange issue I'm hoping someone has seen. Randomly while using the machine, sections of the image will go gray or white in various applications (see attached screenshot.) When the issue first came up, I just assumed it was a faulty display but my client says that the issue happens on both the laptop display and on an external monitor she has connected and rarely at the same time. She doesn't use a dock, the display plugs directly into the laptop. I've tried the following things so far: -Run Vantage and updated all drivers and BIOS.-Completely uninstalled video drivers and manually reinstalled both Lenovo's and Intel's latest releases.-Updated Windows 10 to 1903.-Had her try system with no external displays plugged in. I really don't want to resort to reloading Windows 10 from scratch because I'm not at all convinced that's going to fix this. However, if it's a hardware problem, it's one I've never seen before and since this laptop only has depot warranty, I don't want to put her through the headache of sending it back to Lenovo until I know for sure that it's hardware. Does anyone have any suggestions for this? I'm normally pretty good at troubleshooting weird issues but this one has me stumped. Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

HI, Everyone     I just bought my first T580 and got a Transcend MTS-400 128GB M.2 2242 ssd to do a custom upgrade my self. After carefuly watch the Lenovo tutorial video on Youtube, I installed the ssd on the 2nd PCIe slot. After boot into the  Bios, the Bios couldn't detect the new ssd. Updated the Bios to the newest version and still no luck. So I spend some time searching online and found the following post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/T470-unable-to-detect-M-2-SSD-2242-after... It looks like some compatibility issue with certain brand of m.2 2242 SSD. I wonder if that's the case for my new T580? Does Lenovo ever comes out with a list of m.2 ssd that their Thinkpad is compatible with?

Hi, I am considering to buy the 4K version of one of these laptops. I have used the X1E but I am bothered by the fan noise even under BIOS 1.19. Do these laptops have noisy fan issues? Are they fully compatible with Linux right out of the box? I mean do all functions work right after installation of Linux without further work from the user? How is the battery life? Thanks.

I'm experiencing an issue with intermittent shutdowns on my new T580 (20L9) with the Ultra Docking Station (40AJ). The issue appears to derive from the Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework driver, as I typically see a corresponding error (DPTF Event ID 256 - Unhandled Exception) in Event Viewer, the details for which I'm including below. I'm running Windows 10 x64 1803 (Build 17134.81). It appears that certain CPU/GPU-intensive tasks will tip the driver to immediately put the system in sleep mode, so not technically a full system shutdown. Most recently, I attempted to restore a browser session in Chrome after an OS restart, opening a number of browser windows w/ multiple tabs each, which triggered the issue. Over the course of my daily use, it will happen anywhere from one to five times, and it's extremely annoying.

I have not experienced the issue with the system undocked, however, my computer is docked about 90% of the time I'm using the machine, and I did recently update to Win 10 1803, which could be part of the problem (?) I am using **all** of the latest drivers available on Lenovo's site, including that for the Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework, version 8.3.10207.5567 as of the time of this post. I'm also running the latest BIOS, i.e. 1.10.

I'm not sure if there's a BIOS setting available that could help with the issue or some power management setting? I'm including the full Event Viewer details below. Please advise.

A:Random sleeps on T580 w/ Ultra Docking Station - Intel Thermal Framework issue

Did you ever get this resolved?  I have a user with the exact same symptoms, but we haven't done a lot of testing off the dock yet.  We've updated to the latest Intel Thermal Framework drivers from Lenovo (Just came out on 6/8) but that didn't help.  Updated to the latest drivers from Intel, no better.  Tried dock firmware, nothing.  Lenovo came out and replaced the system board - no better.  We push a clean corporate image to ALL machines, include a few hundred Thinkpads we have out there, and this is the only one exhibiting this behavior (Also the only T580 we have out there so far, everything else is T480.)  Lenovo wants their image back on it before we do anything else, which is tough because the user is a few hundred miles away.

I refer to another similar complain post, I just met a similar problem with lenovo bad screen quality and poor customer service. I bought Thinkpad T580 laptop last year and used in a  normal  environment (always on the desk in my home). One day I found there is a 2x2cm light/white spot on the screen bottom area, which can only be observed when the screen background is in white color. Lenovo told me that it's cased by outside pressure  and they are not covering my screen replacement  under warranty. I own another thinkpad x260 which use in my daily and oversea business travel for over three years and everything is still fine. That's why I purchase T580 for my home use. It is disppointing  that Lenovo can  not  stand behind their product and stand behind their promise to customers (warranty).  Lenovo advertises the Thinkpad T580 as following on their webside: "We test ThinkPads against 12 military-grade requirements and more than 200 quality checks to ensure they run in extreme conditions. From the arctic wilderness to desert dust storms, from zero-gravity to spills and drops, you can trust your T Series device to handle whatever life throws your way." I disgree with their statement and  not going to pay ~$295 parts+ ~30 labour total around 325 to fix my screen. Very disapointed with Lenovo quality and customer service, I won't consider Lenovo again if there is another choice.

First off- I'm totally new here so Hello! I'm Marcus.

I realize there have been posts on this in the past as that is how I found this site, but they all seemed to be very specific for the persons computer.

My problem started when I closed my laptop (Alien m9700 with XP home) and it was supposed to go into standby. I came back later and opened it and it was still stuck in "Going into hibernation" ... so I held down the power button to kill it, and when I turned it back on it had a blue screen with something about deleting a few corrupt files? Once the computer started, and every time i log in or restart, i started getting a bunch of these bad image errors.
I'll post them how I get them:

First: one is an iexplore.exe error that I had to exit to have anything come up on my desktop.

second: iexplore.exe- Bad Image "The application or DLL E:\WINDOWS\system32\MSVFW32.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

Third: iTunesHelper.exe- Bad Image "The application or DLL E:\WINDOWS\system32\DSOUND.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

Hi, I need some help here.
I'm running Win 7 64 bit home premium, for starters.

Recently when I restarted my computer and opened Chrome I got the following error:

chrome.exe - Bad Image

C:\Windows\System32\fwpuclnt.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.
Now I've heard this could also be caused by a virus.
Here's what I've done so far:
Performed system restore
Checked for previous versions of the file (none)
Ran Avira
Ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Ran startup repair which had no problems found
Ran sfc scan which didn't do anything

And the problem persists. From what I've seen so far it applies whenever I run chrome, google updater and java updater.
I have hijack this and can get whatever else I may need to run. Please, someone help me out here.

Try these instructions to uninstall and then install the .dll.

If that doesn't work you could try downloading it from that site, but understand that I know nothing about the site; just found it by searching for the .dll.

I used a software called mp3 tag tools to synchronize id tag 3.1 and 3.2 together AND remove pictures from tags. Still got one strange problem. The car dash is picking up the album art and trying to play them (actual art jpeg files). Hhence, I burned this as mp3 data dvd, not audio cd/dvd. I burned as data dvd to retain the folder structure I have (one folder per genre).

I did use mp3 tag toolz to remove "picture" from all the mp3's, which I assume is what we call today "album art". However, odd enough the dash is picking up some files called albumart_etc..

How do I correct this?

The files you mention ("AlbumArt_*.jpg") are created by Windows Media Player using the Album Art that was originally embedded in the MP3 files. The "AlbumArt_*.jpg" files are normally hidden. You can remove them using the following method:

Open a Command Prompt Window ([WINDOWS]+[R], type CMD, press [ENTER])If the drive that contains your music is F, then type "F:" (without the quotes) and press [ENTER].Go to the folder that contains your music by typing "CD \FolderName" (without quotes). For example, "CD \Music\Full Albums\Private Collections"Type "attrib -r -h -s -a AlbumArt*.jpg" (without quotes). This will remove the Read-Only, System, Hidden and Archive attributes from all files named "AlbumArt*.jpg" in all folders, starting from the current fold... Read more

I had to re-image my Dell Inspiron 1525 to factory settings due to issues with my mouse and keyboard. I backed up my C drive to my external hard drive. After re-imaging I went in to set everything back up and low and behold my Windows Mail data is NOT on my external.

Now, I know it says that once you re-image all data will be lost. But I also know that they always say on Cold Case Files and Forensic Files that you can never truly delete data from a computer. It is also there somewhere, you just have to know where to look.

Is there anywhere I can look for these lost emails? Some of them were very important. I did not have them backed up to my email server because the auto setting in Windows Mail is that they will delete from the server and I never realized that I could change that.

Also, why didn't they back up to my external with the rest of my data? If they are in C then they should have backed up, correct? They are in Users-AppData-Local.

A:Issue with Re-image

How did you backup your data to the external drive? As you've stated, the data should be in C:\Users\<Account Name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail
(From this link: Windows Mail for Vista: Backup and Restore Data | IS&T )

Yes, it's true that data isn't truly lost - but the recovery of that data is expensive if it's been overwritten. Stop using the hard drive (even booting into Windows will cause further disk writes) and contact a company such as Data Recovery Software - Hard Drive Recovery - RAID Recovery - Runtime Software for an estimate.

I bought my PC not too long ago after moving into my new home. I originally had it set up on a round table temporarily while I waited for my new corner desk. Excited to install it once it arrived, I hastily unplugged the PC from the back power port without shutting it down first. After I set up the desk and the PC, I started encountering the following issues:

officeclicktorun.exe - Bad Image. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ondemandconnroutehelper.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc0000006.

Additional issues abounded. Microsoft Edge browser opens, then automatically closes. Google Chrome browser kept getting error messages when going to sites outside of Google. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Now, it just does not load anything and remains blank.

running sfc /scannow results in an error at 18% stating Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation.

Hi omegawon and welcome to Tenforums.

Yes, a loss of power while the system is on (even if idle) can do all kinds of damage to system files (hence the need for a Back-UPS).

Please make sure your important data is backed up. Uninstall MSOffice.

First option: Try an in-place upgrade. Grab the latest W10 ISO from MSTechBench, right-click to mount it, and run setup.exe, to see if the file corruptions can be fixed. Select "save apps and files". If that completes successfully, try chkdsk /r again, then sfc /scannow.

Second option: At boot, with the HP splash screen, tap the required key to get to the HP recovery environment. There you can either try a different restore point, or reset the computer to as it was when you first bought it.

Hope that helps.

The public library I support (volunteer) has purchased 11 new computers for patrons to use. They are coming with Windows10 Pro preinstalled. We are going to configure 1 of them with some of the additional software we use. when we have that 1 configured exactly the way we want we are planning to make an image of it - or clone it- and use that image on all the others. I am concerned about doing this in terms of activation of Windows/product key. Is there anything I need to watch out for here?

A:Image/clone issue

If the library has purchased 11 new computers, then obviously it is not some small independent operation, but as you indeed say a PUBLIC library, likely, although not necessarily run by the local council or other similar body.
If that is the case, they will surely have an IT department, or at least an IT officer.
If those are the circumstances, this site does not offer advice, as of course it would be quite inappropriate for us to do so.

However that is only my opinion on the situation, and I have referred the topic to a member of our Admin/Moderator staff with whom the final decision lies.

Hi guys!
New kid on the block...
I have reinstated my computer to an image created by Microsoft...I usually use Clonezilla for such images and have such an image but for ease of reset I used the Microsoft one....

The image was with all my software, hardware for this computer installed....

I never checked with sfc before creating the backup because I didn't imagine for one moment I would have any problems on an new install updated to today's date with all software installed.

This image was from 2014 and I expected a lot of updates to follow after reinstating it...

Microsoft always have problems with updates from an old image....

I fixed the updates first and then went on to running sfc...
It came up errors after several attempts that you show in the thread here....

I then downloaded the system readiness update KB947821 and then ran sfc again after restarting the computer...

It still came up errors....

I then tried to run your code to put the sfcdetails.txt on the desktop....

Code:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"
I got a "couldn't find the path?"

I am attaching my cbs log for you to look at....

I know it shouldn't affect the running of sfc but just so you know...the C: drive is on the SSD and my user account is on another drive...
Please let me know if you need anything else...

This may not be the proper forum for this and if it is not feel free to move it but I had just fresh installed XP Pro SP3 and downloaded current drivers via disks provided with the parts I used when building my PC back in 2006. At this point I will point out I had had no issues with the computer previous to this fresh install EVERYTHING worked correctly. I decided to make the jump straight to Windows 8, had it for a day, didn't like it one bit so decided to go back to XP. Back to present, well a week ago, after I downloaded the drivers I realized my DVD-RW and Hard Drive weren't working correctly and tried a bunch of solutions, including a fresh install again, but wound up just deleting the drivers I had loaded from the disks provided, restarting windows and letting the OS install its own drivers. Problem solved. However a new issue arose when I started loading webpages with images or graphics. I realized a lot of them are choppy and some even load halfway across the screen. It's not every image and sometimes won't even happen for an extended period of time but other times it'll happen to 10 images in a row. I have taken two screenshots and hopefully they will help you point me to an obvious and easy solution. I am sure I am just missing some program that I neglected to reinstall after the latest fresh XP but I can't seem to find it. Adobe Flash and Java are both current.*The second image wouldn't load properly so here is a link to the full image* F... Read more

I may have to restore a Win 7 Pro 32bit machine to a May image to resolve on going problems. Unfortuately..I have deleted any other images by accident that were working images prior to the current system problems....so the only current images contain the problems I'm trying to repair.

Question is...I have multiple images/backups of the current state of the PC...there are problem two dozen or so apps/programs added since the last May image

Again I have current documents/files backed up that have been created since May by these programs/apps....I know I have to re-install any and all programs that will be missing...

BUT....

After re-imaging back to May...and installing any and all programs that have been installed since the May date...can I simply 'restore' the data/files that are currently saved via image and backup to the newly imaged PC from May after the programs are re-isntalled ?

Hope this make sense....don't mind re-installing programs since May...but don't want to lose the data/files created by this programs since the May image ?

Hi, I'm a newbie, so please bear with me.

Alright... I have an issue which the almighty google has not been able to solve for me, thus I must appeal to the experts here on the TechSupport Forum!

This issue is rather wide ranging so I'm not sure if this is the appropriate sub-forum, but here goes.

When on my web browser, Chrome, (but I've also tried firefox with the same result) random images are not loading fully. The top might load but then I'll get this weird rainbow pattern and the rest of the image will appear as a grey box. This also occurs on other web based applications like Steam (I attached a picture of that as an example.) It almost seems like things will start to load and then the internet connection gets cut, leaving the rest blank...

Also, to note, my downloads on Steam are not working. It will start and then drop to zero kb/s. Not sure if that issue is related or not. Although if I download anything from any other source it seems to work fine. (I've tried all the suggested fixes for this issue from steam and none of them work so I'm thinking the image issue and steam download issue are somehow related.)

Anybody ever experienced such an issue? I am rather baffled and I've tried virtually everything I can think of, or that google can think of. I've tried turning off my AV software, shutting off my firewall, all the usual suspects, but nothing helps. I can post info about my build if it will help, but I don't remember it off the top of my head... something ... Read more

I often get a error with the ieframe.dll and saying it is a bad image when trying to start up all different types of programs. It usually says the .exe program I am trying to use then bad image then describes it as this. example: (control.exe - Bad Image C:\Windows\system32\ieframe.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support)
Also ever since this problem has started to occur I am also having trouble installing other programs and an error always pops up saying windows has stopped working.
Is there any solution to this error or the steps I should go about to fix this problem.
Thanks

I had Win 7 running in BootCamp on a 2007 Macbook. As Apple no longer supports Lion, or hardware that old, I decided to wipe the drive, install Ubuntu, and run Win 7 as a Virtualbox guest. I have this all set up and working, but the Win 7 will not update, and the Macbook running very hot, 100% cpu and fans on all the time. I ahev let it go for periods of 5, 8 and 18 hours, but still stucck on searching for updates. If I thought it just needed more time, I woudl let it go, but I donlt think it is doing anything. If I turn off automatic updating, the fans turn off, the cpu drops to 12%, and everything seems to work. The issue is I am concerned about running Win 7 SP1, from 2009, connected to the internet, without the updates. I have tried, Microsoft Tech support chat, twice, allowing them remote access the computer. While they are willing to help, it seems like they just follow a script and don't know what to do. Anyway, I have a backup image from 2014. While I wanted a clean install from scratch, I am wondering if restoring this image might allow it to update from that point. Any ideas?

Hello Mike, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you like, you could download and merge the .reg files for the listed .jpg and .png options listed in the tutorial below to restore their default associations and registry entries. This will also include the default icon.

Hope this helps,

I am experiencing an issue when projecting a DVD/VHS tape. I do not believe it is an issue with the projector I am using because when I am projecting the computers image it is clear and does not have the issues with the blue tint. However after having switched imputs to the VCR/DVD it projects blue. The DVD/VCR combo is plugged into a Crestron box and the box is connected to a custom wall plate.

I kind of have a feeling that the blue image issue is one related to the custom wall plate in the room. Could I be correct in my assumption? Or do you think it could be a bad cable?

Attached are a few images of the setup I hope they may help out a bit when diagnosing this problem.

I'm running a HP t620 Thin Client (t620/W10/4C/32GF/8GR - Y5G96PA#ABG) and have configured the base OS build with all the settings I require. When I run HP ThinUpdate to capture the image that has been updated I get the error message "Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware".  This problem has occurred a few times and I had tried different USB drives to capture the image to and they each fail with this message. I've restored 14WWFTAJ601_AB4_0126.ibr to the t620 to use as the base configuration of the machine. This is proving very frustrating, keen to kno if anyone else has had this problem and whether they have found a resolution to this problem.

When I choose a new picture it automatically resizes to 128 x 128. My problem is that when you click on the image to login, it increases to what seems to be 256 x 256, but rather then using the source image and resizing that it appears to just scale the 128 x 128 image up, leading to a terrible looking image.

I figured that I might be able to get around this by seeing how the default images work since their larger versions look fine. Looking into the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\Default Pictures all of the images seem to be 128 x 128, so I figured that there must be another folder with 256 x 256 versions of all these images for when the larger image is displayed, but am unable to find such a folder.

So basically my question is, is there anything I can do to have a decent quality image for my account image?

For about a month, the computer suddenly turns off. Although some times there are graphic anomalies on the desktop. However eventually, the computer will power off on its own.
(EDIT: as time has gone on...the graphic anomalies have become constant, i'm now testing to see if it is something simple like a bad surge protector or power bar)

No activity seems to be related to this.

The computer is about 6 years old.

I ran the program that is requested in the BSOD thread. This may be of some help. (see attached)

I have encountered a problem with what should have been a simple upload.

Attempted to upload a single page onto web - all text is visable but the image did not appear (the box with the red "x" appears there instead).

I have tried to save the .JPG image in different ways to ensure it will be embeded. However nothing seems to work.

I did not receive any error messages when "putting" my files nor when saving the page.

I have saved the image in :
images file
index1.htm file

The image also looks fine when I view in the browser.

I am at a loss - can anyone suggest another route to fix this seemingly simple problem?

Thanks

I recently upgraded my motherboard to a GeForce6100PM-M2 64 x2 Dual Core Athlon with 4 GB DDR2 800. My screen is an LG 225WS which runs at 1680 x 1050 (native) resolution. My old motherboard had a Radeon 9700 which gave me 32 bit colour.

With my new motherboard installed when I set my screen to 32 bit colour any mouse or window movement causes the screen display to break up badly. I have installed the latest drivers from NVIDIA and LG. I first contacted NVIDIA who said if I have their latest drivers it must be an LG problem. LG told me that as long as I have their latest driver, the plug and play monitor should function correctly and it must be a graphics card problem.

Grateful for some advice to solve this issue.

Hello all! This is admittedly a minor issue but it's becoming more of an annoyance. With my picture containing folders, I like to know what's in each folder by having a preview image. The default seems to be to show a few images from the folder, which at that size is hard to see anything, so I was happy when I found I could specify to have a single image as the preview and specify which image is used for the preview by going to the customize page of the folder options. So after spending a good deal of time setting a preview image for each folder, I find that the next time I go to my picture files, explorer has reverted back to the default and has completely disregarded my choices. What's weirder is that it only did this with SOME of the folders.

I definitely pressed apply when making the changes to the folder options so I don't get why it's not sticking. Is there a way to lock in those changes more securely? It seems to remember the change short-term but if it's been a few days since I accessed the folder, that's when it often forgets my changes. I was thinking that maybe shutting down the computer after making the changes might help lock them in but I have no idea how explorer goes about saving folder options.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I do not know why they are not sticking but another way of doing it is to put the preview picture you want in the folder and name it folder.jpg
