Laptop screen goes black on startup, have to turn laptop ON twice for it to boot up s

Q: Laptop screen goes black on startup, have to turn laptop ON twice for it to boot up s

First of all, I am not sure if I am posting this in the right section. If not, please guide me to the correct section.
I have a Dell Inspiron 17r SE Laptop and my problem is that every single time, I have to turn my Laptop ON twice in order for it to boot up successfully. The first time I turn it on, Dell logo appears for a second and then, black screen shows up. Then, I have to turn my laptop off and start it back again. Second time, it boots up without any problem. I am fed up of turning it on twice everytime, and also concerned that it will affect health of my Laptop . How can I fix this Issue, please help.
I don't have a Recovery CD or Windows 8 CD. Windows 8 was pre-installed on my Laptop.

Preferred Solution: Laptop screen goes black on startup, have to turn laptop ON twice for it to boot up s

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

If it's still under warranty, call Dell. The unit or parts might be covered for replacement.

I have a Compaq Notebook PC with Windows 7. I was using it the other night and i locked it as I always do, and I opened the lid the next morning and the screen was black. So I shut it down with the power button and turned it back on, but the screen was still black. I don't know what to do with it. I haven't even had it a year. I bought it February of 2010. I really need help, I have no clue what to do... Please help!!

A:My laptop will turn on, but the screen is black.

Well, you should of posted in Windows 7 forum, so I'll move it for you. But being it is less then a year old, and I've never heard of a laptop with less then a year of warranty, you should contact Compaq about getting it repaired. But things to check, is the brightness turned up? There should be a key on the keyboard that'll adjust the brightness levels. Also, most Windows laptops have an option to turn the screen off when connected to an external screen. Look for that button on the keyboard and cycle it a few times and see if your screen comes back to life. Also, find a monitor to plug into the video out port on the laptop and see if you get a picture on it.

I have a Dell Latitude C610, with Win2K. My hubby says he played a music CD he made recently & the laptop froze up. He says the CD played OK. He took it out, laptop still froze, turned it off for a few hours, & when he tried again, nothing would work. The CD plays OK in my desktop, so it seems that's not the cause, was just trying to accurately report what happened.

I come home, check it out, the screen is black, and it's still warm, & I can't turn it off. The on light is lit, the battery light is blinking. I tried unplugging it, but it stayed on using the battery. Nothing happens when I push the power button. I know a black screen isn't a good sign. I'd just like to turn it off & back on again, that works with my desktop.

What else should I try?

A:Screen black, & can't turn Laptop off !

remove the battery unless you have a warranty of some sorts. If not open heart is in order.

My computer was running slow yesterday and I decided to refresh my pc. Today I updated it to 8.1, started installing my programs again and my computer was freezing like crazy. I then held the power button to turn it off and then pressed it again to turn it on. Only this time it just left the screen black and I was unable to do anything.
I press the power button on and it shuts off after a few seconds
I press the power button on and I try pressing the F keys to try and get something going and it shuts off
I remove the battery, but the battery back in and turn it on and it stays on but still has the black screen
I have taken the battery out, held power button for 15 seconds, and put it back in to try again and all it does is stay on with a black screen. Battery and power supply are fine as they both can individually power the laptop only if I remove the power source and then put it back in.
I'm normally okay at fixing problems on my computer but this is the first time I can't even get to any menus to try and get something going.
If anyone has any ideas, if I need to provide more info or can help me in any way I'd greatly appreciate it.

Hi,   first of all my laptop is : HP Pavilion dv6-6160se Entertainment Notebook to the problem now  A few days ago my laptops screen started  out of a sudden shutting down/turning black( no lights at all ). This was happening while using the laptop at random. The screen  had no lights, and if i use a flashlight on it there is nothing. like its turned off completelly. Before this happens. Ths behavior varies. Sometimes it flickers from my desktop to a black screen then back on and some times not. Most of the times screen changed to a radom color (green mostly) then becomes black/shuts down. NOTE: The laptop keeps runing, i can hear the videos playing so it probably isnt a gpu chip or gpu issue , music and games.  I searched the web for all kind of reasons that this could happen and tried some of the fixes . Here are everything i tried and all or the details i could accumulate in past coupe of days: 1. If the screen flickers , blacks out and then turns back on i get a message that gpu drivers have stopped working and recovered (  on both amd and intel ). 2. If the screen blacks out, on rare ocasions if you close the laptop lid and let the laptop go to sleep , when waking up screen works again ( noticable due to screen moving) 3. A:Random laptop screen Black out / Turn off .

Hi @Ntas  I have read through your post and it seems there are a couple of possibilities, and I noted that you have already tried several of the things I would normally suggest. I will however post some of those links anyway for you to review, it is always possible there may be something in one of them that may have been missed or may inspire an idea of the cause. Since you mentioned that sometimes just moving the screen will cause the problem or make it disappear, that does seem like either a loose connection or maybe something like pressure on a part of the display causing the issue.  Of course that last part may just mean the display is on its last legs, but hopefully not. First I will give you a link to the service manual, to help you check the connections. Just be careful to read the sections on precautions, to protect yourself and to prevent any other damage. This manual is also useful in that it lists all the compatible parts, so if the display is defective you could use this guide to help order a compatible replacement if you choose to do so. Hello, the other day I started a game on my notebook and it turned off. When trying to start it up again the screen turned black with purple code across it and couldn't fully boot up. After leaving it alone for a day I went to turn it back on and it worked fine. A couple days later I went to turn it on and it started to boot up but the screen stayed black. I have tried the bios power reset, and the cap lock blinks white 5 times, two fast then a break, twice fast then a break then once more. It has been a few days and this problem is persisting. I have tried hooking it up to an external monitor and it tries to connect then days signal can't be found. Any help would be appreciated!!

So previously my laptop would go black just after the Windows 7 Welcome screen, the mouse pointer turning in that wheel
(I could access the main windows background only through safe mode)
I found a popular method that seemed to have worked for a lot of people.
I removed the battery, held the power button down for 2 minutes, put the battery back in, plug in power cord) but now the screen goes black straight away, doesn't even get to the welcome screen.

Any ideas?

A:Laptop screen remains black when I turn it on (worse after a fix)

Hi and welcome to the Forum
Depending on what you were doing before this first happened it loos as if you might have a RAM problem. I would suggest running Memtest to see what that finds. Here's a link to how to use Memtest by making a bootable CD:
Memtest86 - Download now!
You need to run memtest for a long time, at least overnight! memtest will continue to run until you stop it. Run it until it finds an error. Then you need to remove one of your Memory modules so by a process of elimination you eventually find the fauty one.
If after running overnight, say up to 10 hours if Memtest has found no errors then you can assume that our RAM is OK.
After that I would run Windows Offline Defender in the same way, ie create a bootable CD from here:
Report back here with your findings.
When you can get into your machine it would be helpful if you fill in your System Spec details see here:

Hi tech guys, hope someone can help here...
I have an HP pavillips dv6 that I frequently hook up to my TV with my HDMI cable to watch videos, play music, etc. My problem is, the only way the computer will extend the desktop to the TV is to have it plugged in and charging. I also have the oposite problem when I am trying to use my computer without the TV; I cannot boot my computer while it is plugged in or the screen goes black after the welcome screen. Now I am no computer geek over here, but I am guessing it is because of my graphics card it is a RAEDON GRAPHICS AMD.

I recently broke the LCD screen on my acer aspire 5332. I have replaced it with a LED screen and a converter cable bought off eBay. The screen works fine for the first few seconds of booting but goes black after the windows initialising display. The usual startup sounds still happen and the computer appears to run normally, apart from the fact that the screen is black! (No backlight or graphics). It works fine when loaded in safe mode, and I have tried adjusting the display settings through safe mode but it doesn't seem to help when I reboot in normal mode. I assume it is a problem with a driver but I have no idea which driver to reinstall. I would really appreciate any help! Cheers

A:Laptop screen replacement: goes black on startup

Hello again Alexf.

All laptop display screens are LCD. The difference is in the backlight. Older models use CCFL (fluorescent), newer models use LED backlights.

When you replaced the display, was it an exact replacement (same type and model number)?
Also not sure what a "converter cable" is. Can you post a pic or link?

I've had my ASUS K55A laptop for just over a year now.

I was using it fine one night, turned it off correctly and went to sleep.

The next day I went to use it and when I turned it on it only displayed a black scree (no display).

I can't even hear the fan or eject the disc tray.

I've tried it with the battery and without, with the charger plugged in and without.

All the LED Symbol lights flash green apart from the battery light which flashes orange when the battery is connected and even when it's disconnected.

I've tried the holding my finger on the power button to drain the battery but it didn't work either.

I've ordered a new battery as I've read that some laptops can only function properly with a battery....

Anyone got and advise or diagnostics?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

Hi all,

I hope someone can help. I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro L20 with Windows XP. When I try to start up, after the toshiba welcome, it goes straight to a black screen prompting me to either start up normally or last config. Once entered, it goes to the Windows Welcome page with the green boxes flashing across at the bottom, then briefly goes to a blue screen with white writing, switches off straight away and re-starts.

It does this with all option in the black screen (safe mode, with networking, etc.). I have tried to tap F7 to get into DOS and this didnt work. Neither did F2 or F12 at start up.

I am sure I have not loaded any new software recently and cannot seem to even get to a point to do a system restore. Admittedly, my recovery CD is at another location. Is there anything I can try to solve this?

Many thanks,

Using a Dell Inspiron 15 N5050 Laptop (Product Support | Dell US )

I had a look at possible remedies and came across this following microsoft QA:

I therefore turned off fast startup and still didn't rectify the problem. I checked for updates and confirm that BIOS and all drivers are up-to-date.

So I know this isnt a big problem, but my parents got new laptops and I figured id hook em up with windows 10 since I have loved it. Well they have had nothing but problems blah blah blah, they just dont like change. One actual problem my father is having though is when he starts up his laptop.

Normally on his laptop it shows the hp symbol, than immediately the Win 10 lock screen that you click and than sign in. Since upgrading to Win 10 the laptop shows the HP Symbol, than sits at a black screen for 15 or more seconds until the mouse shows up, and than the lock screen.

He using an HP Envy 17 so its a decent laptop, pretty brand new only a couple months old, with Win 8 it used to be instant lock screen from the HP logo. Already went into the power settings to make sure the quick startup option was enabled and I upgraded the video card to the latest build. Any clue on how to fix this?

A:After win 10 upgrade, laptop sits at black screen upon startup for 15+ seconds

Hi. I'm basic computer user posting on behalf of my grandad who lives several hours away. I've been trying to help him by phone but no success so far.

He has Toshiba Satellite L350D running Windows 7. For several days he's met black screen on startup. He's tried a few online suggestions (that I found via Google) that didn't help (hold power 30 secs, hold power 60 secs, remove battery, external monitor, several function keys). A couple of times he found tapping f11 during startup enabled him to use laptop, but that way has since failed to work.

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

A:Old W7 laptop black startup screen (Toshiba Satellite L350D)

Hello niknak,

Does it appear to try to start normally, before going into a black screen? Does the black screen have a cursor showing?

Try taking out the battery and putting it back in. Then press shift, F8, and the power button at the same time.

Didn't work, try Booting into Safe Mode. Restart PC, start taping the (F8) key to enter Advanced Boot Options menu, select Safe Mode. Once Safe Mode is up running, go to the search box, type System Restore, select a Restore point. Reboot

Didn't work, can you get into the BIOS screen? At Boot start taping the, F12, F10, or F2 key.
Does the Hard Drive show up in BIOS?

Other things to try:

Tell him to pickup the Laptop and listen at the fan vent to see if he can hear the fan running. If he can hear the fan.
Try connecting an external Monitor the Laptop, if no picture. Some Laptops require you to press the FN key, then press the F-key which has a picture of a monitor on it to active the external monitor. Didn't work.

Try removing the battery and AC Adapter, making sure he is grounded. Remove one Memory stick. Put the Battery back in and power up the PC, see if there's a picture now, if not, put the Memory stick back in and remove the other Memory stick, put the battery in again see if there's a picture.

I am open to any suggestions. I would like to know if it's a hardware malfunction or a driver issue.  Anyone think an upgrade to Win 10 would fix it?

A:HP Laptop black screen at boot

If the monitor works then this could be either the backlight or inverter causing this.
Take a powerful flashlight and shine it on the screen to see if you can see the desktop.  If you can your backlight needs to be replaced.
If the desktop is not visible then there is a chance that this is the inverter and will need to be replaced.
There is another possible cause for this though it is not usual.  This would be that the ribbon cable has become detached or has been damaged.

I've got a Toshiba A200 FS2 - Windows Vista - that is EXACTLY a year old. Two nights ago it froze on me and I had to shut it down by the power button. The next morning I found that it still was trying to shut down and the laptop was very hot. I did ctrl-alt-del, nothing happened, so I rehit the power off. I let it cool down for abt 2 hours, and powered up. It went through to the Toshiba logo, and then just froze at a black screen with a flashing white cursor in the top left hand corner. I tried again, this time hitting F8, nothing happened. I then took the battery out, tried just AC, then tried just the battery and no AC - still nothing. I hooked it up to another monitor, and it showed the same black screen. I have examined the adapter, fans, and exhaust, all is ok. When I turn the laptop on, the LED's light up including the HD.

The only problem that I had a few days before this happened, was the laptop would freeze up when I was wireless and surfing the net ... it would say internet explorer has stopped working, and I would have to close the application, and sometimes reboot. I don't think this is the cause of the problem now, but just mentioning it, because I've never had problems before.

So this problem has been reoccurring again and again...
I have been having boot problems with my laptop about 2 weeks ago with black screen
and no cursor as well as "a disk read error" and sometimes a boot manager error Status: 0xc000000e9
with the error screen frozen and requiring me to manually shut down. Some times being able to access recovery options though with long loading times and sometimes freezing, however none of them helped. After many tries I decided to do try a system
restore which managed to fix it now until today....
I'm having the same problems as before except now there is sometimes a flashing underscore
I was thinking this might have something to do with the recent windows update causing problems
KB2823324. I haven't had any problems at all with my computer recently after the restore which led me to think that I had fixed it.
Thanks in advance ?

Toshiba laptop black screen at boot..please help

Hi, I seem to be having a strange problem with my Toshiba M35-S456 (Special Edition) laptop. I have had it for a little over a year with no problems at all. Yesterday I was using the laptop as usual and left it for about 15 mins powered on. When I came back the screen was blank. There was no response from the mouse or keyboard so I tried rebooting by pressing down the power button. After rebooting I saw the ?In touch with Toshiba? screen as usual and then the screen went blank again! This keeps repeating on rebooting and I cannot go any further. All my LEDs work fine, I can hear the fan running fine, the CD drive makes the usual sounds but the laptop does not go any further after the Toshiba screen. I have been using laptops and desktops for a few years now and never seen such a problem. Kindly advise on what the problem could be and if there is a solution. Thanks.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9400 with Windows XP installed. I have the laptop since April 2007.
Yeasterday I left the laptop in stand-by for about 1 hour, when I got back the screen was black and could not be revived in any mode.
I have switched off the PC by pressing the power button until power went off.

When I tried to start the laptop the Dell logo would come on with a weired pattern of green dots in the back ground, then the usual XP logo would come on, still green dot pattern all over the screen and then the screen would go blank.

I have run all the available system diagnostics for Memory, Harddisk and system componenents at start-up and they all passed.
Then I have run the genuine Dell-XP CD Rom and run the 'Repair Installation' Option.
This would run with a correct screen until the first Boot request. Then rebootet the PC and configuration would go on for about 10 minutes ... then the screen just blanks out again.

Please HEEEELP ... I need some fresh ideas on what else I could do.

Over the past two weeks I have been troubleshooting an U530 Touch Laptop (ideapad) - Type 80AS. The problem that im experiencing is a black screen on startup. Initially I thought that it mightve been a display driver issue, I went into safe mode and installed the said drivers and it worked for a little while until about a week later.(Drivers were from Lenovo website other drivers didnt seem to work). I am kind of confused of what could be the problem, perhaps hardware? I would appreciate any input or suggestions. I have tried using an alternate monitor and at times it works for a while but other times it wouldnt recieve any signal. I am running Windows 8.1 and can still boot into safe mode,  These are some things that I have tried:Reinstalling the entire OS from the Lenovo backup - this worked on the intitial startup, on reboot however black screen.Reinstalling drivers - Worked momentarily on and off, moderate success. Trying to login from the blackscreen doesnt workI have disabled Windows from automatically installing driver updates *Off topic- the hinges on the laptop screen have broken off, have tried to put it together with epoxy, hot glue, superglue and all have failed. (Warranty is expired)

I have a gateway laptop (SOLO 5350) and the screen was horribly ripped off(during car accident). Well when I connect my desktop 17" monitor to the port on the back of the laptop and when the windows xp home edition boot screen is finished I get a black screen although the cpu is still workig properly and the monitor is still on. I reboot and press f8 and try to go into safe mode but it just hangs on the screen with all the driver names on it. Can someone guide me in a good direction before I take it to a repair shop?

A:Laptop screen damaged.....black screen at boot

Normally there's a Altfunction+key that switches the desktop from the LCD to a external monitor.. Look around on the top row of keys for a monitor symbol, then use the alternate function key with that key to switch to the monitor.

I have a Toshiba Laptop that will not boot. When it boots up in ANY way will take me a black screen with a cursor. I have run all of the options from repair, all safe modes, and every other option in the f8 menu. It will not even boot up with the Windows 7 install format disk it takes me to the same black screen with cursor. The only time i can get it to boot off of the disk is to remove the Hard Drive and then it boots off of the disk properly. I also would like to mention in the black screen I have also tried to CTRL+ALT+Delete as well as sticky keys but nothing pops up for me to edit anything in any way. I am a computer savvy guy but this one has got me stumped. It just randomly did this last night. (one more random piece i would like to add in is that it started running insanely slow and then installed windows update shut down to install and it then started doing this.) I am all fine and dandy with a reformat and would love to do it if I could only actually start the reformat. Thank you for reading this and hopefully someone can help me.

I have a Toshiba satellite laptop with winxp / vista dual boot on a partitioned drive.
I received a physical memory dump / blue screen of death in winxp when trying to play a dvd that the system / dvd player didn't get along with.
Now the computer will not reload to the dual boot menu ... it shows the initial Toshiba flash screen then goes to black with blinking cursor.
From reading various posts, I am thinking that I will need to repair the xp installation with the original cd, however, if I do this will it keep the dual boot functionality or will this be overwritten? [I haven't been able to find a specific post on restoring the dual boot aspect ]
Any help with the best way forward that will save my data and keep the dual boot in place will be much appreciated??
Many thanks!!

My laptop is a Acer aspire 5738z running windows 7 home premium 64 bit and my problem is my laptop will not start. When I turn my laptop on it starts to run like normal: GPU fan starts, Disk drive kicks in, and the LED for the on button is working but nothing on the screen. I've tried too do alt + f10 for a restore, nothing happened. I've also tried to plug it into a monitor and my tv. Before this occurred it had been turned off during boot (don't ask why, I cannot answer that) and I preceded to take it apart(to fix the overheating issue due to acer not putting fan holes on the bottom of the laptop ((thanks Acer -.-)) and I didn't realise something was wrong with it until I reassembled it and tried to turn it on. So I'm not sure whether is corrupt BIOS, a hardware problem, or corrupt MBR (my own personal diagnosis, don't know whether it's right or not). Also I have tried turning the laptop off taking the battery out letting the motherboard discharge then pressing the power button for a minute, leaving it for a minute, putting the charger in then turning it on.

Thanks. =]

A:Laptop wont boot Black screen no BIOS

You may need to take it apart again and make sure everything is connected properly. Did you follow steps to keep yourself grounded while working inside the system?
As you add and remove hardware, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-static desk, or an anti-static pad. Hold something metallic while touching it to the anti-static surface, or use an anti-static wristband to attach to the anti-static material while working. If you do not have an anti-static workbench, desk, or pad, you can use your computer tower/case by finding a metal hold in it, such as a drive bay.
Once these steps have been followed, it is safe to remove and replace components within your computer.

Trying to fix this laptop for a friend of mine.

It is a HP 2000 / Windows 8
insydeh20 bios v3.7

When the laptop is powered on, it goes to a black screen.

Now, upon pressing F10 for BIOS it just reads "F10...BIOS setup options" in the bottom left corner and does absolutely nothing.

Occasionally on power up, it will give a "Hard Disk - (3F0) BootDevice not found" Error, here if I press F10, I can open BIOS

I have tried booting with legacy enabled:

UEFI boot Order:
OS Boot manager
Internal cd/dvd rom drive
USB Diskette on key/usb hard disk
usb cd/dvd rom drive
! network adapter

I dont see the HD, lets say the hard drive is bad, can i get stuff off it still?

A:HP 2000 Laptop, black screen on boot, not responding

that sounds like the HD died. You can try a usb enclosure to see if you can get the data off.

Just yesterday my laptop froze for no apparent reason and when I did a hard reboot my default cursor was corrupt and I had to repair that through the admin command prompt by scanning the computer and repairing corrupt files. That worked but it seems like something else is going on because now my laptop is randomly crashing during use and sending me to a blue screen or it tries to restart it self after a few minutes and it tells me no boot device was found.  I've had a similar issue maybe a year or so ago where I could not load a boot device and I had to have hp send me a new windows OS or something to repair it but that also wiped the computer and I was under warranty then. This is a bit different in the fact that doing a hard reboot when I get the no boot device screen lets me back into my account for a little while before it inevitably crashes again. I've tried running windows defender to scan for viruses, full scan, and it turned up nothing and scanning the system through command promp for corrupt files turned up nothing this time. I'm wondering if maybe my hardrive is failing and needs to be replaced though my laptop is not very old and is suppose to be high end, or at least it was when I first purchased it. I have an HP SPECTRE X360  with an i7 and 256gb ssd, the first generation version, bought it maybe 2 or 3 years ago.

First, I want to thank you everyone involved with this site. I've been recommended here by my brother who had some really great results after being helped himself.

My problem is that when I start my laptop, it sounds like it's about to boot up, but the screen remains black. The CAPS Lock blinks the Wifi LED light comes one, and my laptop heats up, but other than that it does nothing else. I've tried a hard reset, I've tried removing the battery and using the adapter power online, but it still wouldn't come on.

So, I did some searching and I found a solution where the poster said he let the laptop charge for a few moments powered on, and I tried it and sure enough my laptop came back on. I thought that my problem was finally fixed, but the next day, I had to again wait about 45 minutes to an hour while it charged still powered on, in order to get it to boot up.

I heard someone say that the motherboard had to be a certain temperature before it could come on but I really don't know if that's the case. This all started after I closed the lid of my laptop and left it there for a while, and when I came back and tried to wake it out of sleep mode, it wouldn't wake it out of the black screen.

I updated all of my drivers, I've scanned for problems, nothing showed up. I tried to run a diagnostic test through HP but errors kept showing up. Everything else seems fine, except that it does tend to freeze up out of nowhere, sometimes when I leave it alone for a few moments, ... Read more

A:Laptop starts up to black screen, won't boot until hours of charging

Hello and welcome ncm mate take the battery out it is sort of telling me it (battery) is dead and taking all of the adaptor's power until it is charged then the power becomes available to the machine proper. Some system spec please also helps so much .
Speccy will find these for you Speccy - Download > from piriform.

So to recap take out the battery and see what happens if the machine fire up then you need a new battery or just run it on mains power.

Edit - Solved. I had to delete all the partitions (instead of installing over an existing Partition) before reinstalling Windows.

I have a laptop with a similar problem to this.

Dell Inspiron (Windows 7 installed).

On startup, a similar error message to this:
Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 083)
Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation

This Product is covered by one or more of the following patents:

Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller Series v1.19 (08/10/09)Click to expand...

Things I tried:

1. Hardware diagnostics (both the short and "full" tests). No problems found.

2. Loading windows disc (sent from dell) and doing startup repair. Doesn't find any problems.

3. Using command prompt and using all the bootrec commands including following instructions on Microsoft website on how to rebuild the MBR, etc.

4. Doing a system restore to an earlier date.

5. Pressing F8 or ctrl + F11 - Doesn't work.

6. Finally, attempting to reinstall windows.
When reinstalling windows, I picked the partition with the biggest space (where the OS was installer formally). After reinstalling, the computer restarts and nothing happens (still a black screen with the vague message above regarding PCIe FE Family Controller series).

Tried formatting again (the partition) and formatting again, same problem (windows restarts and acts like windows install didn't go through).

I can't find the answer to this anywhere and I am not sure this is the right forum..but..I have a Toshiba notebook that has been giving me problems and worsening.

I push the power button and it lights and nothing happens...black screen. I push it again to turn it off, then I am constantly pushing the button on and off. After about ten minutes it will go right into the normal boot mode. Not sure why it is taking longer to get into this normal boot mode I have windows 7 and I have a Toshiba Satelite T 115-S1100.
