[SOLVED] Intermitant delay click or right click on files

Q: [SOLVED] Intermitant delay click or right click on files

When I right click a file to open the context menu, or when I click a file to open it, there is sometimes (about 50% of the time) a 20-30 second delay in opening the menu or the program to view the file. This does not happen all fo the time, sometimes i does work instantly. The problem does not seem to affect folders at all. I have tested the open file problem with a very small text document. About half of the time, it opens instantly and the other half there is that 30 second delay.

The first thing I tried to do was disabling ALL Non-Microsoft shell extensions using ShellExView. This did not help at all. I then checked "netstat -a" while the problem was occurring. All of the listed connections were either to my local PC or to my ISP. I did try disabling my NIC and while the problem did not go away, the delay was reduced to about 5-8 seconds when it occurred instead of the usual 20-30 seconds. So I searched the registry for other computers/shares I have connected to in the past and removed any references to anything that was no longer available. The problem still persisted. Finally I ran a Windows Repair and yet the problem persists.

Does anyone have any other idea I can try before i blow away the whole partition and reinstall from scratch? I really don't want to do that but this problem is really bugging me.

Preferred Solution: [SOLVED] Intermitant delay click or right click on files

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My symptoms are these:
right click hangs on all files but not folders for about 30-40 seconds then works fine for a few moments but once I click away or do anything else the problem comes back
using the keyboard to copy hangs and then once the computer "unfreezes" copy/paste with keyboard works fine
double clicking on a file that would launch a program hangs for a while then opens the program.
using the delete key hangs
Otherwise performance is normal everything runs fine while using all programs.

What I have tried so far:
Running Adaware and AVG to determine if spyware/malware installed
using shellview to disable processes - no results
cleaned temp files and defragmented drives
uninstalled hp easy button keyboard software

Problem does not occur in safe mode.

If anyone has used unix you are familiar with what i am asking for; just to double right click or middle click and to paste the content of clipboard to the given window.

When I left click or right click on an MP4 file, Windows Explorer encounters a problem and needs to close.
Explorer closes and restarts. If the MP4 was left clicked, Real Player will start and play the file. If the MP4 was right clicked, right click menu will open and error window will open immediately after.

The error report shows:

I have recently noticed some odd behavior in my computer, for some reason when I open My Computer and double click on a hard drive (I have 3) it will not open the drive. However I can still right-click and choose Explore to get around it.

At first I thought that this was a virus but after 3 scans with SpyBot I am still clean. Any ideas? It's not critical but I do find it odd.

I have a strange problem. I have a three computer LAN with all computers running Windows 98se. There are two computers in one room about 15 feet apart and the other in another room. All computers are running fine and see each other. However, when I right click on either the A drive or C drive on either of the two computers that are in the same room, it takes a good 1-2 minutes before the menu screen pops up. This doesn't happen on the computer in the other room. I don't know if this is a network glitch, a Windows 98 problem, or a coincidence that it is happening to two of my three computers. Can anyone help me fix this?

I have a few things going on, I keep getting a window that says "Bit Defender, Scan Now" pop up in the lower right corner of my screen. I have never clicked the scan as I don't recall installing it, I just click the x to close the window.

Also, I installed Comodo, I was told it was a browser. I uninstalled it and it keeps changing my browsers to search with it.. When I mouse over the icon from the start menu, it is empty.

Last, I have right click lag. Terrible. I can not delete, copy or do anything with a right click without waiting for a long delay. Also when I boot, my desktop will not load, I have to open the alt, ctrl, del and close processes.

Hi everyone! From few days I have problem with right click of the mouse when I use it on shortcuts. The problem is that there is a delay which is between 1 to 3 seconds. It happends only shortcuts. When I use right click on other files (.exe, .jpg, etc.), on desktop or folders, the context menu appears without any delay.

The other problem is happening when I open my "Programs" folder which I created for my shortcuts. It contains 86 shortcuts and 1 app(Team Viewer). The problem is that every time when I open it it has also delay (3-6 sec). Other folders with larger content/files are opening and loading fine.

I think the both problems are related. I have tried a different methods to resolve my problems like:

- Defragmentating C:\, system files and pagefile (I use PerfectDisk)
- Deleting IconCache.db and making new Read-only
- Running PC in safe mode (it resolves the problem but only when I use the mode, when I boot in normal the problem appears again)
- Reducing the RAM usage (smaller resolution, disabling aero and effects, etc.)
- Reinstalling nVidia 260.99 WHQL drivers
- Disk clean up (also with CCleaner)
- Disabling network (saw a post on net)

None of them helped.

My PC is running fast and well, I haven't got any other problems with delays, lags etc.

I hope someone can help me with resolving this thing!

Hello, I have a problem where i can not click after a key has been pressed on the keyboard. I am using a laptop that has it's own keyboard and touchpad but i am using an external usb keyboard and mouse. It did use to work but i had to reboot my computer and now i can not get it to work.

The delay happens on almost all keys apart from the arrow keys, making it hard to play games as i can not move and shoot. The touchpad drivers are synaptics it comes up as Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad in the device manager. I would also like to mention that before i rebooted it there was an option to turn of the delay in settings> devices> mouse and touchpad. But after i rebooted the two have became separate and no longer shows the option.

The things i have tried to fix it

Turn of the palm check & Smartsense (Depends on the driver version)
Update the drivers via device manager and downloaded them from the Synaptics website
Rebooted again
Disabled the touchpad
Uninstall and Reinstall touchpad drivers

I would not mind not being able to use the touchpad if that would fix the issu... Read more

Ok so I have been experiencing problems with my mouse it seems to get sluggish or lagged out when I try to left click anything. Sometimes it will not select the object I click on, other times it will select the item but not open it unless I click 4-5 times. Just clicking a link in Firefox or IE sometimes requires 2-3 clicks before recognizing it. This issue also carries over into games and applications such as World of Warcraft I will have to click my skills multiple times to get them to cast or to select a target. Also if I try to click on something to drag it or move it around it doesn't seem to hold it will let go and then randomly try to hold or select the object again so if your mouse is somewhere on a web page if you're moving the browser it may click an image or a link.

Now the issue will occasionally clear up and the mouse will work flawlessly but then it's back and the frustration continues. I have been searching the web for a couple days now troubleshooting left and right to no avail. I found another person who posted the same issue as me and same situation it started happening after he installed new RAM. I started with a Triple channel OCZ kit that had 1 dead simm so it was running 4 instead of 6 gig and no problems. Put in the new replacement kit all 6 gig works and no software changes nothing.

A:unusual delay in getting drop down list on right click !

I would roll back the updates and see if the problem goes away. If so then if you want the updates you should install one by one checking the symptom each time. I know it's a drag. That's why I only put on updates that solve problems I know I have. At least until the next service pack.

Usually a problem with right click means an Explorer extension is buggy. It doesn't respond when Explorer notifies it or it responds very slowly, like looping through a whole bunch of stuff first.

Edit: Another method to track down the bad update is use ShellExView utility and disable the context menu items until the weirdness goes away. If you can narrow it down to one update then just remove that one.

I just bought a new HP Notebook model number G60-535DX from Best Buy. I've only had it a couple of days. I am getting a huge lag/delay from the mouse click and keyboard. For example, it is taking me forever to make this post. It took me about 10 minutes just to register on this site. After I type a sentence, it takes about 30 seconds or more for the text to appear. When I type in microsoft word, it's fine. When I click on something with the mouse, it takes a long time to acknowledge what I've clicked on.

The operating system is Windows 7, Pentium dual core processor T4300 @2.10 ghz, 3 gb memory, 64 bit operating system. I am using IE 8.

Ive done a virus scan with my NOD 32 and a free scan with trendmicro-housecall and they both found nothing wrong. It has taken me about 20 minutes or so just to make this post.

When I start typing, I notice all the smilies on the right freeze up, and when my text finally appears they start moving again.

Even when I move my mouse without clicking on anything, I notice the screen freezing up.

How do I solve this?

A:Huge delay with mouse click and keyboard

I have about a 3 second delay whenever I click on my screen. That is, I click on an icon, and there is an hourglass for about 3 - 5 seconds before anything happens. Hi all,

A while ago I noticed that items in control panel only open after a delay of around 1 second. This delay seems to be built in to Windows 7 as I've tried this on 3 different computers running it and it's the same on all of them. So say for example, I open control panel and click 'system and security', nothing in there will open instantly e.g. Action Centre, Firewall, System etc all have that delay after clicking them. I've lowered the value of MenuShowDelay in the registry but that makes no difference.

It's annoying me a bit now because I've just bought an SSD and everything is very snappy. I'm quite sure it's not hardware limitations causing this delay but rather a setting in Windows 7.

I seem to remember there being a registry tweak to fix this but I cannot for the life of me find it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On the weekend I had a very surprising crazy malware/virus/trojan attack, I was sitting there speaking on Skype and then 3 different malware aps popped up on the screen, the task manager was locked, safe mode didnt work, my browsers were hijacked and covered in toolbars and I couldn't visit any sites, etc etc.
I thought AVG + AdAware would have protected me against this stuff but obviously not.
Anyway, I installed Malware Bytes, Spybot and ZoneAlarm, and with all this stuff installed and after about 50 reboots my system was clean and back to normal.

However, since then, whenever I search for something in google, and then click a link, it says Connecting to server <www.whatever.co.uk> (the link I followed) and then stops on a white page with no content, the status bar says Done.
I wait 5 seconds, then it starts loading again, and 80% of the time will then display the page, so it's annoying but I can at least still use the net. Though the other 20% of the time I don't ever get to the page, instead I get a piece of broken script code of some sort, and in this code it always references http 23.meningre.com . However now if I double left click I get the "search" folder option - like the one you can access by left clicking on "start" and left clicking on the search option - just so I'm explaining clearly I hope.
If I right click on a file/folder I get the context menu with "search" as the top option and "open" as the second or third down.

I have a new X1 Carbon and am having a terrible time with usability in my Office apps. In PowerPoint when I use shift-click and ctl-click to add or remove from mutliple selection sets the trackpad does not behave as expected.  Ctl-click should deselect any previously selected items yet it doesn't. In Word, dble-click should select a whole word and triple-click should select the whole sentence but this is not the observed behavior.  I'm seeing a double-click behave more like the triple-click behavior. Something must be messed up in my settings but I can't find it. Help please someone!

I looked at numerous "right click" problems on this forum via search, but I didn't find any that matched my problem exactly.

For reasons unknown to me, and without recognizing any particular pattern (except that it seems it occurs most often after the computer has been idle for extended periods), my right click function ceases to work, but only within my "Word Pad" documents. I keep my to-do list on a Word Pad document and that is where I most often find that it is not working. This function continues to work properly in all other formats (web pages, browser, Open Office Word documents, etc.) but for some reason the right click menu ceases appearing within Word Pad and the only remedy is to reboot the computer.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this right-click function to stop working only within the Word Pad documents, but remain functioning in all other formats?

I have a simple batch file to load multiple files with one click, but it's not working.

When I run it, it simply very quickly pops up the cmd dialog, which quickly disappears, and nothing is loaded.

I've tried 'running as administrator' - same problem.

File is xxxxx.bat

I've even tried the fail safe:

start /d C:\Windows\System32\calc.exe

and that doesn't work, so it's not a error in my paths... for some reason, it just won't load...

Worked in XP fine...

Is there a different technique in 7?

Basically, end result, want to open two programs with one click (one icon on taskbar).

Hello, Would someone please be able to help me. I recently got my computer back after being repaired and it was on a small resoultion under the 1000's. I bought a new screen to go with it and just turned it on. I went to display settings and changed resoultion to 1920x1080 and now its just a big blank stretched wallpaper with no icons, task menu/bar or start menu. I also can't click or right click thus I have no way to change this back. I've tried going into normal safe mode and display settings changed it to the smallest, restarted the computer and its doing the exact same thing. I know no fixes and would really appreciate all the help I can get.

A:Changed Resoultion, Icons, Taskbar, Start menu All gone. Can't Click or right click

Follow the below steps:
Press CTRL+Alt+delete together and hit enter
Click on File and New Task (Run)
Type "Control" without any quotes. This will open control panel Window, from where you can easily get to display settings options and change your PC resolution back to it's initial state.

Good Luck.

I'm wondering it it's possible to use the functionalities of tablet PCs (the Tablet PC Input Panel to write and holding a left click to right click) in a non-tablet PC.

I know, it doesn't sound practical, but my Genius tablet doesn't have an option to use the Tablet PC feature, so I want to know if there's a way to "force" Tablet PC (or a third party program that lets me use the "hold the left click to right click" feature of Tablet PC), even if Windows sees my tablet as just a mouse and not a Tablet PC compatible tablet.

Using a mouse the right click behaves as I would expect it.  Using the touch pad, right and left click perform the same function.

I am after some help. My laptop has decided to reverse the right click and left click functions, ie: if I left click it now does not select but instead brings up a menu (which the right click button should and used to do!) I've tried holding down both buttons (as suggested by a friend) by this has no effect and I can't see any options to reverse the functions in the 'mouse properties' menu... and ideas please!

My wallpaper has been changed to some eerie yellow color, and it takes multiple left clicks to click on anything. Right click does not work at all. Also, there were no start menu icons or quick launch icons, until I ran unhide... I'm not sure if I was supposed to do that yet though, since from the looks of the forums we're supposed to do that after removal of the virus. I ran Malwarebytes and it removed 2 things after a full scan, but nothing has changed. Help would be greatly appreciated... thanks!

I would appreciate any advice on how to fix this..My computer caught a virus and screwed up the admin account. I managed to get that bug removed. Since then, I have problems when I click the results from search engines. When I click search results, I get sent to different sites. I typically use Google Chrome but it's happened on Bing as well. For example, I did a google search on "virus removal". The link on the Google page was for "www.symantec.com/security_response/removaltools.jsp" but when I click the link, it goes to "http://answers.nixxie.com/s.php?k=virus%20removal&adid=13190&ts=1001SMA_A14&subid=263328-165793-133-27681&click=1609561864-41d3.11f1.50788005.3b97&ref=http://market-find.com/index.php?search=virus%20removal"Cicking "www.kaspersky.com › Support" takes me to "http://r.looksmart.com/og/pr=Psr;ro=1;rc=4;digest=2318dc8762ee3009c073e486df8a499b;kid=6f71bb91533de8f9bb8d92689e59bf39;t=1350074566;v=8;data=gg1A2cbB_NiFMmKDDBkRvp9xLNM-gHzw1ipDmvpgzJM7kA2vsa63GrjukRD6oalWiDGbgjD4_lX7zIN4HI9nmNM701OzoDmp2aba_b-8rQiuWrRnSR6SldsYzIg9duKKiVELnFMfFbijvsXXHu4z3OBZgeOJjsbbEsL9UNuMEytcIVbfpvA8EA;uh=157x17525143547048890673;la=2438185;lm=3039186;ad=756865385;ag=766460146;kw=1609561864;qt=virus%20removal;vr=17;lt=EM;ip=;pt=;st=;os=929.;sy=keyword;my=smart;geo=894417;vid=0;subid=137419-386-27681;opi=bizz_main;lg=0;sqid=610B9C4C-14AD-11E2-A738-E60E0A2C1E10... Can anyone please help me figure out the solution to this? My Dell 14R 5437's touchpad isn't properly working lately. It's right-click button and double-tap to right click function isn't working as intended; the left-click button and single-tap to left click function is working ok. When plugging an external mouse, however, I can right click as normal.
I tried reinstalling the driver from the Dell website and it's still not working properly. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
